Character: Steven Durante | fingersandteeth Badge/Gym Leader: let's knock Brock (the fock out) Elite/Regular: regular plz! Team:Ed (Sharpedo 52) and Fiyero (Shiny Cacturne 59) Battle Details: Luckily for everyone's dignity, a purchased egg and a shiny Rocket reward have given Steven a nice pair of mid-level battlers to use in this fight, so we don't have to worry too much about making him face an elite team or anything.
Steven will start out using Fiyero, mostly because Fiyero has Leech Seed and that thing's a bitch and a half to deal with. He'll be seeding all of his targets, then whapping them with his Needle Arms. Cotton Spores will be used to slow them the opponents the fuck down.
Occasionally, he'll switch in Ed, who'll use Aqua Jet, Hydro Pump and Liquidation to blast water at the opponents. If it looks like she's getting low, he'll have her Flip Turn to send Fiyero back in.
Character: Steven Durante | fingersandteeth Badge/Gym Leader: let's cream Janine Elite/Regular: a whole lot of regular Team:Mesmer (Hypno 52) and Nazca (Sigilyph 55) + William the Bloody (Swoobat 100) purely to tank hits during reviving/potioning if the other two go down Battle Details: So let's just state for the record that Janine's choice of pokemon is truly sneaky, like the goddamn ninja she is. First of all, you have Crobat, whose secondary Flying type makes it so that one of Poison's two weaknesses, Ground, can't damage it. Then you have Ariados and Venomoth whose primary Bug typing also happens to be one of the vulnerabilities of Poison's other weakness, Psychic.
Obviously, if you're going to face her, you're going to also need to be just as goddamn sneaky and strategic. Luckily, Steven's six years away have only honed his sneak and strategy game alike.
Against Crobat, he's sending in Mesmer, mostly because he wants to cheer up Mesmer's mom Allure and dad Teller, who Steven recently inherited after they lost their original trainers, Lydia and Tyler. So what better way that to see their little boy do well in battle? Mesmer slaps up a Light Screen and a Reflect and then since Crowbat is more or less equally vulnerable to physical and special attacks, he'll alternate between blasting Psychic at it and Zen Headbutting it.
But once we get to Ariados and Venomoth, Mesmer just can't stick around. His pure Psychic typing makes him much too vulnerable. So instead we'll send in Nazca, whose secondary Flying type is strong against Bug and thus cancels out Psychic's weakness to it--and whose Flying attacks the Bug/Poison pokemon will both be vulnerable to!
Like with Mesmer, Nazca slaps up a Reflect and a Light Screen right away, the better to shield themselves from attacks. After that, he'll attempt to Hypnotize Ariados and Venomoth into falling asleep, forcing their trainer to waste their next turn either waking them up or switching them out--and that gives Nazca the opportunity use that wasted turn for the preparation stage of a rather nasty Sky Attack to hit Ariados and Venomoth right in their Bug Typing.
It's fairly likely, though, that having done this for the first of the two, Janine will see the second attempt coming, so after Nazca takes down one of the two Bug/Poisons down with the Hypnosis/Sky Attack combo, he'll whittle the other one down with some Psychics and maybe an Expanding Force.
As always, Steven is on deck with potions, stat recovery medicine, and revives at the ready.
