Armin and co are going to be travelling from the Sevii Islands to Goldenrod via warps and ferry, so he’ll be hitting up these three gyms in fairly rapid time (maybe a day or two in between). So I figured it would be best to write them up all together in one post.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Olivine City / Mineral Badge / Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Circinus the Voltorb (lvl 100) + Magellan the Incineroar (lvl 100) + Himeko the Steelix (lvl 100)
Battle Details:

He’ll start off the fight against Jasmine’s Skarmory with Circinus the Voltorb. Circinus resists both flying and steel types, and Skarmory is weak to his electric type.

They are travelling through, so Armin is looking to make these fights fairly quick where he can. As such, he’s got a pretty simple strategy for this one. He’ll have Circinus use charge, and then on his next attack use one of Circinus’ electric moves. At first he’ll concentrate on Discharge until Skarmory is paralysed, then he’ll switch to Thunder.

Against Jasmine’s Magneton, he’ll withdraw Circinus and bring out Magellan the Incineroar. Magellan is resistant to steel and he’s a fire type which Magneton is weak to. In addition, Magellan has several fighting moves which Magneton is weak to. Armin will immediately focus on Magellan’s hard-hitting fire moves like Blast burn (requires one turn to charge up) and Fire Fang. In addition, he’ll maybe throw in a Cross Chop or Double Kick.

For the last battle against Jasmine’s Steelix, Armin is going to attempt something unusual. He’ll counter her Steelix with his own! His thought is that they will now have the exact same weakness and strengths, and the victory will depend on level (Himeko’s is higher), additional moves (he taught Himeko one extra ground-type move which Jasmine’s Steelix will be vulnerable to) and strategy (and he hopes he has learned a bit about that since coming here).

(Also it would probably be kind of super cool to watch two giant steel snakes throw down)

For this final match-up, Armin is going to focus on the moves he knows Steelix is weak to: Fire Fang, Bulldoze, and Dig. For the most part, he knows this will be an endurance battle though, and what he is hoping for is that Himeko’s superior level will drag her through that. Should she go down or look very injured, he’ll switch her out for Magellan, however Magellan’s weakness to rock type attacks (and Steelix has so many of those) makes him hope he won’t need to do that.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Ecruteak City / Fog Badge / Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Amadeus the Noctowl (lvl 100) + Magellan the Incineroar (lvl 100)
Battle Details:

Another day, another battle.

Armin is going to start hard and fast against Morty’s Haunter by bringing out Amadeus his Noctowl. He is well aware that Haunter is immune to Amadeus’ normal type attacks, but what it isn’t immune to is the Noctowl’s many psychic attacks. Additionally, Amadeus is immune to ghost type attacks which is what most of Haunter’s moves are (He checked with Shiro’s Haunter the Gengar). So, yes, that’ll basically be Armin’s entire strategy for this match: have Amadeus use his psychic moves while watching most of Haunter’s moves be completely ineffective.

For the second match against Morty’s Misdreavus, Armin will switch Amadeus for Magellan the Incineroar. Magellan is part dark type which Misdreavus is weak to. Additionally, Magellan resists ghost-type moves and is completely immune to psychic type moves which make up most of Misdreavus’ move pool. Essentially, during this match, Armin will be focussing on Magellan’s dark type moves (Bite, Darkest Lariat and Throat Chop) and might even throw in a few nicely damaging fire type moves. They don’t do special damage, but they can still bring the burn!

For the third match against Morty’s Gengar, Armin will bring out Amadeus’ again. Depending on how injured he might be from the first battle, Armin will first have Amadeus use Roost to regain HP, before he will switch to using much the same strategy against Gengar as he used against Haunter: focus on psychic moves while most of Gengar’s move will be ineffective. He’ll keep an eye out for Gengar’s dark type moves, and he’ll be ready to have Amadeus throw in another roost if needed, but he expects to be able to carry off this battle without issue.
