Against Whitney’s Girafarig, Armin will start by bringing out Magellan. This is in part because of Magellan’s dark type which Girafarig is weak to, but most importantly, Incineroar is immune to psychic attacks which is what most of Girafarig’s move pool exists of. This battle, Armin will essentially focus on Magellan’s dark and strongest fire-type attacks, while knowing most of Girafarig’s strongest attacks (the psychic ones) will be useless. Between that and Magellan’s much higher level, he doesn’t think this battle will give him too much trouble.
For the second fight against Whitney’s Clefable, the choice was easily made. Who else but the knifiest of knife-birds for this match? Hilde is a steel type which is what Clefable is weak to. In addition to that, Hilde resist both Fairy and Normal type moves which takes care of a lot of Clefable’s potential moves. He’ll start the battle by having Hilde Sand Attack to lower Clefable’s chances of hitting her. Then Armin will focus a lot of his attention on using Steel Wing and Metal Claw. Not only are these steel type moves which should deal a good amount of damage, but in addition to that, they also have the possibility of raising Hide’s attack and defence, leaving her in an even better position to face off against Clefable.
For the third fight against Whitney’s Miltank, Armin will start off by leaving Hilde in the field. This is mainly based on wanting to preserve the stat bonuses Hilde got in the previous fight + her resistance to Normal type moves. As none of Hilde’s moves are going to be super effective against Miltank, Armin will simply focus on having Hilde use her strongest attacks. If her HP goes down a lot, Armin will have her use Roost. He hopes Hilde’s higher level will be enough to carry her to victory. Should that not be the case, he’ll switch in Magellan to finish the fight. Though not a fighting type, he has a few fighting type moves, which Miltank should be vulnerable to. Between the two Pokemon, they should be able to defeat Whitney’s Miltank of Death.
(He really doubts he’ll need him, but he’ll also be bringing Hannibal the Piloswine with him just in case Magellan and Hilde are not enough to take care of Whitney’s Pokemon. He’s heard a lot of stories about that Miltank, okay!)
