This is it. The last of sixteen badges for Armin. Lets make it cool.
Starting off, Armin is going to bring out his Dhelmise Octavius against Chuck's Medicham. Medicham is a fighting/psychic type, which leaves it with a weakness to Ghost-type moves. Dhelmise meanwhile is a Grass/Ghost type. This means it not only gains STAB damage on its ghost moves, but it is also completely immune to Medicham's normal and fighting type moves.
During this battle, Armin is going to focus on Dhelmise's ghost type moves. He'll start off with using Astonish. Not only does this move deal ghost type damage, but it also has a 30% chance of making Medicham flinch. Because it is immune to Fighting and normal type moves, Dhelmise will only need to watch out for Medichamp's psychic attacks. In case one of those manages to hit Octavius pretty hard, Armin will have him use Giga Drain before switching back to Astonish.
Against Chuck's Machamp, Armin is going to leave his Dhelmise in the game. If his HP is low, he'll start off the fight with using an item to full up his HP again. Now, Machamp is a pure fighting type pokemon. This means it has no mentionable weaknesses to Dhelmise's type. But Dhelmise is still Ghost/Grass. It is still completely immune to normal and fighting type moves. And it turns out Machamp's move pool is practically all normal and fighting type moves. The only exception is its move Knock Off. This is a dark type move which Dhelmise happens to be weak to. But, it is only one.
For this battle, Armin is again going to focus on Octavius' ghost type moves. He'll use Astonish (if he has any PP left) and then switch to using Phantom Force. Phantom force is a two-turn move, where Dhelmise first turns invisible and then strikes on the next turn out of nowhere, ignoring any protection moves. Like before, Armin will have Octavius use Giga/Mega drain should its HP take a good hit. It is a big job, taking on two level 100 pokemon, but Armin believes Octavius is the, uh, anchor for the job.
For Chuck's Hariyama, Armin will withdraw Octavius (three level 100 pokemon is too much), and instead bring out Gus the Shiinotic. Hariyama is a pure Fighting type pokemon. This leaves it with a weakness to Fairy-type moves. Shiinotic is a combined Grass/Fairy type pokemon. This gives him a resistance to Fighting-type moves. It also needs to be mentioned that Gus' ability is Effect Spore. This means that each time Hariyama makes physical contact with him, there is a chance he'll be poisoned/paralyzed/left asleep.
To begin this battle, Armin is going to tell Gus to use Ingrain. Using this move, he'll root himself to the ground. This means he won't be able to escape the battle anymore, but also means he'll be able to recover 1/16th of his full HP every turn. Next Armin will have Gus use his Fairy-type moves (Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast) on Hariyama. He'll also keep his fingers crossed that contact with Gus will leave Hariyama with status effects. Should this not happen though, he'll toss in a sleep powder at some point. Through ingrain, Gus will be recovering 1/16th of his health every turn, but in addition to that, if it looks like his health is getting low, Armin will have him use Giga/Mega drain to drain Hariyama's HP and add it to his own health. And that all the way until Hariyama goes down.
Onto Chuck's Breloom. Breloom is a fighting/grass type pokemon. To count it, Armin will be bringing out Mina the Crobat. Breloom is grass/fighting, which leaves it extra vulnerable to flying type moves and vulnerable to poison type moves. Mina is a flying/poison type pokemon with a strong resistance to fighting type moves and grass ones. Mina will also be entering this battle without a held item.
However, Armin wouldn't be Armin is he didn't do his homework. When looking up Breloom, he saw they could either have the ability Effect Spore (he is very familiar with that one) or Poison Heal. He doesn't know which ability Chuck's Breloom has, so he's come prepared with a good supply of healing items to heal any status effect Breloom might leave. Additionally, he's not going to use any of Mina's poison type moves until he has confirmation on Breloom's ability. So basically, if Breloom at any point inflicts a status effect on Mina, he'll know it cannot have Poison Heal and he'll have Mina use her poison type moves too. However, if Breloom fails to inflict any status effects this way, he'll assume that it has the Poison Heal ability and will put the kibosh on any poison type moves.
Thankfully, Mina still has plenty of flying type moves to make Breloom's life absolutely crap. Furthermore, Mina was bred by Ford -- everything worth achieving is worth overachieving -- Pines, which means she also has the move Brave Bird. He'll start the battle off using Acrobatics (power doubled due to lack of a held item). If a status effect is inflicted on Mina through contact, Armin will take a turn to heal her, before dipping into her poison type moves as well. If Mina's HP ends up low, he'll have her use Giga Drain to replenish it. Once Breloom's HP is low enough, Armin will finish things off with a hard-hitting Brave Bird.
Next, it's Chuck's Primeape. Armin will leave Mina in, but he will use his first turn to fully heal her HP. Primeape is a pure fighting type with a weakness to flying. Mina still has her strong resistance to fighting type moves.
Compared to the last fight, this strategy will be far more straight forward. Mina will start off with Poison Fang in the hopes of poisoning Primeape. After that, it's back to her old tricks. Her old Acrobatics tricks, that is. Additionally, to stay out of reach of Primeape's moves, Armin'll also have her use Fly. If Primeape gets a good strike in, He'll have her use Giga-drain to recover lost HP. Most of the focus in this battle will be on Mina's flying type moves, and as before, once Primeape is low enough in HP, he'll try and finish it up with another Brave Bird. Even if Mina's gotta take herself out to do it.
Then we arrive at Chuck's final Pokemon: his Toxicroak. Armin will switch out Mina (if she didn't take herself out, that is) and instead bring out an old and faithful companion: Amadeus his Noctowl. Toxicroak is a Poison/Fighting type, with a weakness to both Flying and Psychic moves. Amadeus is a Normal/Flying pokemon. It doesn't have any particular weaknesses or resistances to Toxicroak's type, but Amadeus does have a wide array of Psychic-type moves. Might not get STAB bonus, but they are still gonna be very effective.
Which is why it won't be a surprise that in this fight, Amadeus' psychic moves will take centre stage. He'll start things off with Hypnosis, hoping to put his opponent to sleep. If asleep, he'll use Dream Eater to both damage Toxicroak and regain any lost HP. In addition to Hypnosis, Armin will also have Amadeus use Zen Headbutt (20% chance of flinching), Extrasensory and Psychic. If Toxicroak happens to inflict any status effects on Amadeus, Armin will have him use Psycho Shift to transfer the condition onto Toxicroak. And if Amadeus' HP looks dangerously low, he'll have him use Roost, then get back to the psychic attacks when healed.
Armin will be bringing his Skarmory and Incineroar as back-ups for any of his pokemon unexpectedly go down. Hilde is a flying type, which many of Chuck's pokemon are weak too. Magellan, meanwhile, is just going to be thrown in there based on sheer power.
