Battle Details: Obviously, Armin is bringing a hell of a lot of items to these matches, making sure to heal up his pokemon in between fights. Also enjoy Armin's battle music. At least it is epic enough for this.
Will
Bronzong vs Magellan
Starting off, Armin will bring out Magellan the Incineroar to face off against Bronzong. Magellan is immune to psychic attacks, and resists dark/ghost/steel. Meanwhile, Bronzong is weak to fire and dark type moves.
With most of Bronzong’s attacks having little to no effect on Magellan, Armin’s strategy for this particular match rests all on Magellan’s fire moves. Armin will start off with Flame Charge, which will boost Magellan’s speed each time it is used. After two or three turns of this, he’ll switch to using Fire Fang for that double chance of both burning and causing Bronzong to flinch. Of course, he’ll be keeping an eye on Magellan’s HP, but considering Bronzong’s pool of attacks, he isn’t particularly worried about Magellan making it through this round with most of his health intact.
Jynx vs Magellan
Onto the next match! Armin will leave Magellan in, so he can continue to enjoy that boosted speed. Again, Magellan is immune to Psychic attacks but also resists ice type moves. Jynx is ice/psychic, leaving it with a weakness to both dark and fire type moves.
Armin’s main concern with this battle is Jynx’s potential for putting Magellan to sleep using Lovely Kiss. As such, he has a bunch of Awakenings on hand in case Jynx’s succeeds at that. Beyond that, much like the previous match, most of this fight will be pretty straight forward, with Armin concentrating on using Magellan’s fire type moves. With his speed still boosted from the previous match, Armin will once again have Magellan use Fire Fang on Jynx for that chance of burn/flinch. Should his HP be starting to get low, Armin will have Magellan use Drain Punch on Jynx to recover some of that HP, switching that up with a few Fire Punches until Jynx is down and out.
Grumpig vs Nemesis
Once Jynx is defeated, Armin will withdraw Magellan and bring out Nemesis the Sharpedo instead. She is a water/dark type, and is immune to psychic attacks. She also resists ghost/dark damage. Grumpig is a psychic type who is weak to dark. Additionally, most of its moves are psychic (with some dark/ghost)
For this battle, Armin will be focusing on Nemesis’ dark type moves. He’ll first focus on using Crunch, which has a chance of lowering Grumpig’s defence. Once that is down a stage or two, he’ll switch to using Night Slash which has a high critical hit ratio. There is a chance of Grumpig confusing Nemesis, so Armin has plenty of items on hand for that and should that happen, he will immediately heal her the turn after it happens. He does not want that self-inflicted damage, thank you. Apart from that, he does not expect a lot of trouble in this match.
Slowbro vs Nemesis
Next match, Armin will leave Nemesis in to face off against Slowbro. Slowbro is a water/psychic type and most of its attacks are either Psychic (which Nemesis is immune to) or water (which she resists)
Starting off this match, Armin will have Nemesis Mega-evolve for just that extra little boost. Due to this, Nemesis’ ability will change to Strong Jaw, which increases the damage done with biting moving by 50%. Like before, Armin will first focus on using Crunch (both biting move and dark move) to lower Grumpig’s defence. When the PP for this move will run low, he will switch to using bite (dark move/biting/chance of flinching).
Gardevoir vs Octavius
For the next match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis, and instead, send out Octavius the Dhelmise. Octavius is a grass/ghost type, with no relevant weaknesses/resistances. Gardevoir is psychic/fairy, which is weak to ghost/steel.
Starting off, Octavius has the ability steelworker. This boosts his steel type moves with 50%. Armin will have him use Heavy Slam. Heavy Slam does more damage, the bigger the weight difference between Dhelmise and Gardevoir. Gardevoir weighs 106lbs, Dhelmise 463lbs. This puts the power of the move in the 20-25% category making it 100, which then is further boosted by his Steelworker ability to 150. After pummelling Gardevoir a few times with Heavy Slam, Armin will switch to having Octavius use Astonish (30% of flinching) and Phantom Force.
If Octavius’ HP starts running low at any point, Armin will have him use Giga/mega drain to recover some of that.
Xatu vs Circinus
Onto the final match. For this match, Armin will withdraw Octavius and bring out Circinus the Electrode. Circinus is an electric type and resists flying type moves. Xatu is a Flying/psychic type, who is weak to electric attacks. Additionally, Circinus is holding a Magnet, which boosts the power of his electric type moves with 20% (on top of STAB bonus)
For this battle, Armin will first have Circinus use Charge (doubles the power of the next move if it is an electric type move) and then will have him use Thunder (10% chance of paralysing target). Thunder normally has a power of 110. With stab that is 165; with Circinus’ magnet that makes 197; with Charge that makes 394.
Armin is kinda hoping to knock Xatu out in two moves, but if not, he’ll repeat his charge -> thunder combo until it does.
Koga
Skunktank vs Nemesis
To start off this match, Armin will bring out Nemesis. She is water dark, so she has a resistance against dark attacks. Skunktank is poison/dark.
This is one match-up where Armin has very little in terms of clever strategies or preying on an opponent’s weaknesses. Instead, for this match, he’s simply going to depend on Nemesis’ strength to get him through. To start, he will have Nemesis mega-evolve once more into Mega Sharpedo. Then he’ll have her use Agility to boost her speed. Next, though its damage will be more limited, Armin will first focus on having Nemesis use Crunch, to lower Skunktank’s defence a level or two. With those stat changes set up, it’s time to simply throw down until one of the two goes down. Armin will focus on having Nemesis use her strongest water type attacks (Surf, Aqua Jet, Dive) and once Skunktank’s health is low enough he’ll try and finish things up with a Hyper Beam.
Venomoth vs Magellan
For this match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis and bring out Magellan. Magellan is a fire/dark type. Venomoth is bug/poison, which leaves it with a weakness to fire. Additionally, it has several psychic moves which Magellan is immune to.
As we all know, the best way of dealing with bugs is using fire, so that is what Armin will be doing this round. Fire Fang, Flare Blitz, Flamethrower, all will see some use here. And once Venomoth is low enough in health, Armin will finish up the match by having Magellan use Blast Burn.
Toxicroak vs Amadeus
At the start of this match, Armin will withdraw Magellan in favour of Amadeus. Amadeus is a flying/normal type, which means he is immune to any ghost and ground attacks Toxicroak has. Toxicroak is poison/fighting which leaves him with a weakness to fighting and a double weakness to psychic.
Amadeus has a lot of psychic attacks. And Armin’s strategy for this match is to simply throw all of them at Toxicroak until it goes down. He’ll start off with Psychic and work his way down the list. Should Amadeus’ health start looking low, it is time to Roost, before going back to the psychic attacks.
Swalot vs Octavius
Another match, another Pokemon. Armin will withdraw Amadeus and bring out Octavius instead. Octavius is grass/ghost. As such, it is immune to normal type attacks. Swalot is a poison type pokemon, but roughly half its attacks are normal type and will be useless. Additionally, it is weak to ground. Octavius knows the move Bulldoze, which is a ground type move. Armin’s strategy for this match is to essentially have Octavius use Bulldoze until Swalot goes down, with an option of using Giga/Mega drain should his HP get low.
Crobat vs Circinus
For this match, Armin will bring out Circinus. Circinus is an electric type pokemon who resists flying type moves. Crobat is poison/flying with a weakness to electric attacks.
Armin’s strategy here is going to be a repeat of his strategy against Will’s Xatu. Charge + Thunder. Repeat if necessary.
Muk vs Amadeus
For this last match, Armin is bringing back Amadeus. If his HP is low from the previous fight, he will heal him on the first turn. Muk is a poison type, with a weakness to psychic moves. Additionally, it has several ground type moves, which Amadeus is immune to.
This match too will be all about Amadeus’ psychic attacks. Armin will repeat his strategy of the last match with one minor change. Because Roosting will temporarily make Amadeus vulnerable to ground attacks, instead Armin will have Amadeus use Hypnosis + Dream eater if his HP ever starts getting low.
Bruno
Armin is aiming to take down Bruno with one single pokemon. Namely his Dhelmise Octavius. Octavius. Octavius, being a grass/ghost is immune to both fighting and normal type moves. All of Bruno’s pokemon are fighting type pokemon whose moves predominately consist of either normal or fighting type moves. Which again, Octavius is completely immune to.
For all of these matches, Octavius will use his strongest Grass/Ghost/Steel moves which get a STAB boost/Steelworker boost, sprinkling in the occasional Giga drain/Mega drain if his health gets low. Of course, this strategy will eat through his PP *fast*, so Armin is standing by with Max Elixers and some health potions, just in case.
