Steven's strategy against Morty, while thorough, features a small but significant miscalculation: Hex doesn't get any stronger against a Confused opponent. It only doubles in power if the opposing Pokemon is inflicted with a status that persists when switched out or the battle ends.

With this in mind, the playing field is almost TOO even: Steven's Pokemon have a level advantage of Morty's, but Morty's Pokemon have evolved and Steven's have not. This match could be anyone's win.

But Imprison is a clever way to take advantage of a challenging matchup, and a Confused opponent is a vulnerable opponent. His use of Psychic moves against the dual-type Haunter and Gengar is also well-advised. Even though Morty uses many of the same strategies himself, Steven narrowly nabs the win.

Maybe it's the bond between Steven and his Pokemon.... or maybe it's that Rocket chip implanted... somehow... in a ghost....? Oh well, try not to think about it too much.

After all that, though, it's probably quite nice when the Storm Badge is a straightforward win!

Soul Badge and Storm Badge APPROVED.
