Personality: Roxy’s predominate personality is very open and friendly. She enjoys talking to people, something that was difficult in her isolated childhood. She listens to her friends problems and give advice, even if it isn’t always good advice. She doesn’t like keeping secrets and would rather be honest. When she first met Jane she told her that she lived in the future and her mother was dead and was hurt that Jane didn’t believe her. She also chose to give Jane a heads up that Dirk planned to make a move on Jake because she wanted Jane to have an equal chance. She also likes to tease her friends. She pokes fun at the way Jake roleplays or how serious her other friends are, but it isn’t mean. Roxy cares a great deal about her friends as well as people in general. She helped feed the carapacians and didn’t hold it against them when they ate her pet cats because she knew they were starving. She similarly worried about what would happen to the trolls if she helped the Condesce resurrect her race. She knew the Condesce would enslave them and couldn’t in good conscience assist in the process. When the Matriorb would go to Kanaya, Roxy not only created it, but also volunteered to help Kanaya with whatever she needed.
Roxy is also a huge flirt. She will flirt with anyone regardless of their response. Her strongest romantic feelings are towards Dirk, who she continues to constantly pursue even knowing he can’t return her feelings. Ultimately, she realizes that she’s being unfair and needs to stop because she is probably making him uncomfortable. She needs to work on respecting others boundaries, but that’s definitely a work in progress. When she meets John she immediately tries to determine if he is boyfriend material.
When Roxy was introduced she was constantly drunk. She became an alcoholic because she thought it would bring her closer to the mother she never knew. She later acknowledges that she doubted her mom drank and she was just using that as an excuse. She used alcohol as an escape from her extreme isolation growing up and to cope with Jane not trusting her. Once she entered the game and learned she’ll get to meet a version of her mom, she quit cold turkey because she wanted to be someone her mother would be proud of. Roxy’s struggle with alcoholism showed her strength and commitment to changing her life. She supported herself while she was going through withdrawal and cravings and still helped her friends as best she could. She relapsed due to what are essentially magical drugs and realized that while she had told herself she was over her alcoholism, it wasn’t that simple and she had still, to some extent, been denying the problem. Her alcoholism didn’t go away just because she quit drinking, and while her relapse was a setback, she committed to working on the problem.
When possible, Roxy avoids direct confrontation. She removes herself from what she calls the “Jake stakes” because she doesn’t want to compete against Jane or Dirk. Even when she argues with the Condesce or Grimbark Jade, she isn’t particularly confrontational. She tells them she can’t do what they want her to and it’s impossible but she backs down when Jade threatens to kill her. Roxy doesn’t deal with her frustrations by getting overtly angry, instead she becomes very passive-aggressive. This especially comes up when conversations are about romance. In conversations with both Dirk and Jake, Roxy becomes very passive-aggressive over how she feels she isn’t allowed to be attracted to anyone and her frustration that Dirk specifically doesn’t return her feelings.
Roxy is incredibly intelligent and capable. She is a computer programmer capable of creating a program that can blow up a computer. She also has a lot of experience with ectobiology in the form of her mutant cats. She has a good understanding of fenestrated walls and uses them to teleport around her home. She enjoys being challenged, something Jade pointed out to be her motivation for creating the Matriorb.
