Personality: Lance is all that and a bag of chips.
At least, if you ask him, that’s what he’ll say. He’s very self-assured and overly confident in his own abilities to the point that he’s often arrogant and egotistical. He talks about himself and his capabilities as though he’s capable of practically anything and everything. However, this mostly comes out of Lance’s desire to prove himself. He wants to prove to everyone watching that he’s capable of anything and everything, but his bragging leads to him shoving his own foot so far into his mouth that its in his stomach when something goes wrong beacuse of something he did. This can definitely be seen in his self proclaimed rivalry with Keith, as it’s pointed out to him that he was only able to transfer to the fighter pilot program from the cargo pilot program at the military academy due to a certain mulleted individual flunking out.
But there is more to Lance than just this. He can be pretty sensitive and reflective at times. He desperately misses Earth and his family. His bravado serves as an attempt to cover that up, even if doesn’t always work. Just as well, Lance can also be aware of himself and his surroundings, especially when he’s in the middle of a mission. For as impulsive as Lance is, he himself is capable of recognizing when it’s better to hold back and think things through. At the same time however, Lance is not the most perceptive and can miss things that are right in front of his face.
Lance is incredibly friendly and amicable. He has a sense of humor, even if at times it most often involves sarcasm and literal fart jokes. Unless he has “legitimate” reason not to, he will treat any new person with kindness, and if it’s a cute girl, he will most definitely flirt with them. But even if he has a “legitimate” reason to not be kind to someone right away, he will also be entirely willing to change that whole way of dealing with someone if he gets legitimate reason to get over it. So even while Lance maintains a rivalry with Keith, it quickly goes from something Lance does to compensate for his jealousy to something Lance does as a way to bond with a new friend.
As the pilot of the blue lion, Lance embodies the water element of his lion very well. Much like water, Lance isn’t static. Water is ever changing, going from form to form constantly and there is more to it than just what’s seen at first. Like water, Lance adapts to the situation that he’s thrown in. He may not enjoy it, but Lance will do what he thinks is best. And in the end, he’ll do it in the most Lance way possible. After all, just because water becomes ice when it’s cold, doesn’t mean it’s any different from water when it’s a liquid.

Victory Road Sample: Lance sits on the ground and watches the… Shinx? That’s what it’s called again, right? He watches the Shinx play on the ground in front of him. He’s still not used to this whole pokemon thing, to be honest. But then again, it was a whirlwind of events that forced him out of the house he suddenly woke up again to going out into the wild to start a journey of his own into the world of pokemon. To be honest, he feels like he just experienced the openning sequence of some sort of video game. There were no real choices, just press play and watch the game start.
But that’s just silly.
He has a moment to finally breathe and try to catch up. One minute, he just finished having the most terrible, no good, very bad day that just happened because of the castle being corrupted by a Galran crystal and now he’s here. Shinx is doing well stalking a blade of grass. It’s low to the ground, eyes focused on that surely dangerous blade of grass.
...At least he got a blue lion pokemon for a starter. It’s a small comfort, to be honest. While it’s not any replacement for his regular blue lion. For one thing, it’s about one thousand times too small to be his Blue but it’s still nice.
“So, you’re... Shinx, right?”
Shinx stops stalking the blade of grass to look at him, joy evident on its face. Lance offers his own smile back to it, reaching out to scratch the Shinx behind its ears.
“Alright, this won’t be so bad. Especially if I have you for a partner. I’m sure with us both working together, we’ll be an unbeatable team!”
Shinx nods and jumps onto Lance’s shoulder. It lets out what Lance assumes to be an attempt at a roar and if asked, Lance will flat out say that it was the fiercest roar that has ever been heard in the entire Pokemon world.

Because it totally was.
“Good, glad you agree.”
And there’s a beat of silence.
“So, how do we start?”
