Character Name: Boober Fraggle Series: Fraggle Rock Timeline: Post-"Change of Address" Canon Resource Links:Wiki Link
Personality: Boober is a gloomy, superstitious, cranky worrywart of a fraggle, and as such one might assume he's also a very unhappy fellow. The truth is it's complicated. Overall, Boober finds a sense of security in his anxiety and sadness - though there are certainly times when they overwhelm him. He may not find dancing and playing games fun, as other fraggles do - those sort of things, at best, just don't do it for him, and at worst, stress him out. But he finds his own sort of fun. He enjoys a lot of domestic and otherwise quiet activities, like cooking and especially laundry. In fact, doing laundry is his official job in Fraggle Rock, and he takes great pride in that and any other job he does well-- He's also taken on a lot of the cooking and medical work down there. He's one of the more consistently serious (and snarky) fraggles you'll see among a group of fun-loving optimists.
Socially, Boober needs his alone time, or at least his quiet time, on a regular basis. That said, he loves his friends and tries his best to take care of them in the way he can-- Honestly, in a way he often feels only he will think about. Because, yes, part of Boober's worrying is preparation for the worst. It's worth noting that as a result of this, when a disaster is actually present he's usually able to handle it rather calmly. The possibility is worse than the reality, with the catch that when a disaster is something he's never considered -- dogs getting into Fraggle Rock or humans polluting their water supply -- he's still a mess. However, in both of those examples he ultimately comes through. These instances where he had no choice but to come through in the clutch have created character development.
Now, there actually is a part of Boober that’s much like other fraggles. Sidebottom, the "fun side that Boober keeps on the bottom" is someone Boober doesn’t usually think of as himself. Of course, Sidebottom is still just Boober, and the struggle to accept this repressed aspect of his pen personality is something crucial to Boober’s development that isn’t truly resolved by the end of canon. So while Boober certainly becomes a braver and stronger fraggle throughout the series, and he’s on the path to reconciling this as well, there’s still room for him to grow.
