Original Character Background: ALRIGHT THEN.

Tamási László (if we're using the name order they're used to) was born in the early 1880s in a village in rural Hungary somewhere. I have never actually named this village, but it's a running gag in my game that no one in the party can actually pronounce this shit. Their father was the mayor, which basically just meant that the family could afford a roof that didn't leak and the ability to scrimp and save for their only child to one day afford college in the big city.

That said, László was also nonbinary as fuck, a fact that their abusive father resented deeply. It's hard to overstate how few redeeming qualities their father had, and László as a child quickly developed the essential skills of lying to avoid any sort of confrontation with their father, who they'd come to loathe and resent more with each passing day.

They had few friends as a child, but their best friend was a little girl named Aranka, who they met at the village school at around 6-7 and who they played and hung out with every time they could wrestle a moment away from their shitty ass family. Remember her name, it will be important later.

Over time their father's more physical abuse waned, mostly because their child was taller and stronger than them as an older teen/young adult.

At 17 they went to college in Budapest, and began to study medicine.

At 23 they finished their schooling and began their career as an assistant to another doctor in a hospital, which today would be akin to a med student starting their residency. This wrapped up when they were about 25 or 26.

After this, to make a long story VERY short, they married their childhood friend Aranka, who as fortune would have it was both a cis lesbian and also one of the only people on the planet to know László wasn't actually a guy. Their parents didn't approve for a variety of reasons, so things were still kinda tense, but they managed.

They couldn't be themselves in public, but they could at least keep each other safe. As fate would have it though, these two did eventually fall in love, and moved to Budapest where they had a family and met two other cis women who moved in with them as "renters" and Aranka's "very good friends", if you wanna read between the lines.

Things went on fairly normally for about 20 years, during which time László built up a successful medical practice and the secret polycule raised half a dozen kids together (all of whom were Aranka's, biologically speaking.) Unfortunately, things can never last, and the closer it gets to the 1930s, the worse it is to be a queer person (or really any sort of minority) in Europe.

The stress of watching one's country slowly descend into fascism started getting to László, and in the 1920s they started to do what they never thought they would, which is deliberately murder their own patients if said patients were scumbags. Weirdly, they didn't get caught by the authorities, but someone noticed.

Enter Adler (not his birth name), a vampire from clan Tzimisce who had been staking out for a potential new childe for at least a decade, and who saw some promise in a brilliant trans doctor who clearly wasn't afraid to do a few murders. László left their work that evening, but never returned home, and it was assumed they were murdered.

Over the next 10 years, László followed their abusive sire's demands as the two carried out Sabbat business all over Europe, while secretly trying to funnel money and other aid over to their human family. Their human family used this aid to flee the country, with Aranka and four of the kids making their way to America while two of the kids and the two girlfriends made it to the UK or France.

But the stress of doing this while struggling with their inner monster led to them having a mental breakdown and almost experiencing wassail, and as they struggled to recover from this, their shitty ass sire took the opportunity to remake László in his image.

They adopted a more detached, more transhumanist way of looking at their vampiric condition, accepting that they were no longer human, but also becoming more willing to do increasingly monstrous things that their human self would pale at, like human experimentation or just straight up cronenberging people into war ghouls. The sheer depth and breadth of their war crimes was nothing to be scoffed at.

Sometime in the 1940s, they and the rest of their Sabbat pack traveled to Mexico for some official business as Mexico is the sect's capital, for all intents and purposes. The sheer fuckery of what happened with Europe in the end and immediate aftermath of WWII left their pack stranded. At around this point the tattered remains of their pack also were folded into a larger pack, which is where they eventually ended up in San Antonio, Texas.

San Antonio was controlled by the Sabbat during this time, but that all changed in the 1980s when an Anarch vampire named Sophronia made a push to drive the Sabbat out, establishing herself as Baron of the city. (Vampire authority titles always use the masculine form, even if the holder is a woman.)

The Sabbat found themselves on the losing side of that war, and László along with their sire and a few other packmates found themselves accused of infernalism (basically demon pacts/worship) for political reasons in the fallout. Having never been that enthusiastic about the Sabbat's political goals, and having endured one too many abuses from their sire, they decided to just fucking kill Adler, release a kaiju science experiment on their accusers, and leave the sect.

This basically made them a wanted vampire, and as the Anarchs took over, László sought their protection. They received it, but at the cost of basically now being a hostage for the Anarchs.

Fast forward to 2022. They had settled in to their new life, when a letter from an old friend arrived. That's right, Aranka's back. It turns out that decades after László had "died", she moved to the US and was later, as an old lady, embraced by another vampire into clan Brujah before falling in with the Anarchs over in Austin. This is just about when San Antonio found itself in the midst of another turf war with the Sabbat, with them eager to take back what they'd lost (and also possibly kill László.)

The turf war settled, Aranka became the baron of New Braunfels, so László lives with her and has acquired control of an old folks' home.
