Character Name: Harry Mason Series: Silent Hill Timeline: Right after his death in Silent Hill 3 and three years at route_29 Canon Resource Links: Silent Hill 1 Silent Hill 3 Harry Mason
Personality:
Harry Mason is a devoted father and he will do anything for his daughter. In the first Silent Hill game, he took on an entire town of monsters and killed a god just so get could find his daughter again. After leaving the town with his child, now a baby again, he went and raised her by himself. They were almost caught by the cult from Silent Hill but Harry killed the person who found them, in self defence. In short there is almost nothing Harry will not do to keep his daughter safe. He also worries a great deal about her safety thanks to the cult and just general fatherly over protectiveness. Heather has described him as a worry-wart and when she was a teenager he gave her a stun-gun to protect herself. So yeah, he is a worry-wart. But then again, he's had good reasons to worry.
Harry is also quite a logical person. When in Silent Hill he keeps careful records of his time there, also recording all the places he goes on the maps he finds of the area. This way he doesn’t get lost as much and he knows where to search next when he's going through the town. He’s clever as well because there are many puzzles scattered across the town and Harry had to solve them before being able to continue onward. And some of these puzzles are quite difficult and weird. Some involved finding different keys, some involved rhymes and pianos and some involved chemicals. So he's smart and also a good writer, being able to make a living off of it before and after his "adventures" in Silent Hill.
Harry went from a man sure that the world was a logical and sane place, if a dangerous one; to someone that was suddenly aware that cults were not always making up what they preached and that the supernatural was quite real. This change comes as he goes through Silent Hill the first time, starting to accept more and more that reality isn't what he thinks it is and that his daughter isn't what he thinks she is either. Watching Lisa realize she's actually dead and having to kill Cybil who has a parasite on her, are things the push him into fully believing that what's happening can't be explained away by normal methods.
Harry also harbors a lot of guilt for his actions in Silent Hill, even after all these years. Most notably for not being able to do anything to save Lisa and Cybil. He views the fact that he ran from Lisa, as a cowardly one and that he killed Cybil as something he can never fully forgive himself for. He understands that they were both things he could do nothing for, or had to do but he still wishes there were something he could have done. Part of him still blames himself.
While Harry trusts his daughter to do the right thing, when he was given the baby at the end of Silent Hill 1 he wasn't so sure. In his notes in Silent Hill 3, he confesses he almost killed the baby or simply abandoned her, because he was so afraid that it was really just Alessa, who he blamed at the time for taking his daughter Cheryl away. However he didn't give in to that fear and learned to love Heather just as much as he had Cheryl. However he still holds his thoughts and actions he almost did, against himself, writing in his notes to Heather, that he was a terrible person to have thought such a thing about her.
These thoughts of guilt he keeps close to himself and only his daughter really knows about them. He's had years of keeping everything about Silent Hill hidden from everyone, his daughter included. She only found out about his story through his notes and talking to him when he appeared in route. Being in route has helped him come to terms with his guilt somewhat, because he's met Lisa and Cybil here and was able to talk to them. Also just through time with the secret of Silent Hill out in the open between him and his daughter as well as Henry Townshend knowing about the town. This has helped as he no longer has to keep the whole thing locked inside him.
Harry’s not the best when it comes to social situations. He’s a friendly man; however he cut himself off from the world when his wife died which was years ago. His profession as an author gives him another reason to stay away from people, working from home. That’s why in Silent Hill his conversations are rather awkward and slightly one tracked. He’s honest and a good man. He was just not as in touch with the world as he was before his wife died. He was quite content to just look after his daughter and quietly write. Though he was willing to take her on a trip when she requested to go to a place called Silent Hill. The social isolation got even worse after Silent Hill and after the whole, on the run from the cult thing happened and Harry became even more isolated. He changed their names, dyed his daughters hair and kept them moving. Mostly keeping to himself socially, worried that if he made too many connections that would lead to them being found by the cult.
However after being at route for three years, he's gotten better at opening up and talking to people. He's not the best but he can start conversations casually now and make posts, make jokes, make friends. It took a while but he's not as paranoid about the cult, the fact that they essentially caught and killed him, helped with that as his worst fear already came true. Speaking to his daughter to find out that they didn't succeed in using her to end the world helped a lot as well and just made him feel better about not being able to be there for his daughter. Which he does still feel bad for, but he now blames the cult for that, more then himself, for once.

[Harry Mason is very tired. Also he's pretty sure he's supposed to be dead....again. He smiles a bit though.]
Well apparently there's no rest for the wicked. Or ...authors for that matter. I don't know how long it's been, it seems different here but if feels like I just left. Though that might just be from the point in time I left my world from.
[The death part. He was dead, apparently it didn't stick....again.]
Now this is a familiar question. But has anyone seen a little girl....okay I'm teasing. My name's Harry Mason. I'm wondering if my daughter Heather is still here. Her and a man named Henry Townshend. We travelled together when I was last here.
[And Henry is also family.]
So if you guys are here...uh..I'm somehow back in the starting town with a new pokemon and all my stuff is gone. I'm not really sure how that happened.
