Personality: You know the phrase “Ice Queen”? He’s like that. For most of the time we see him, he’s closed off, aloof. He is cold, in other words. Conversations are ritualistic and/or businesslike. Straight to the point. Even for those of his own kind, those he works closely with. We don’t really see a lot of how he is outside of the instances with his team of assassins (yes, assassins). But it’s usually a lot of leadership type speeches, orders, and the like. This is what we have to do, this is how we’re going to do it.
This is how he is for everyone… Except for the few people he’s closest to. We see a scene of him with his husband, before he leaves on a mission, and he’s like a different person. He’s warm, smiling. Even when he’s talking about the mission itself, he just seems softer. It’s reasonable to assume that’s what he’s like around those he truly trusts, those he absolutely cares for. The ice softens, he’s more able to be himself, more able to loosen up around certain people. But that’s kind of a rare thing -- unless you are those specific people. Namely, his husband, and, prior to everything that happened on their Final Mission, Rayla, who it’s said he thinks of as his daughter.
The power of DETERMINATION fills this dude. With a goal in mind, he does not sway from it. Maybe that’s stubbornness, but hey, we’ll call it determination. Torture, starvation, potential death? No big deal. Never once does he give up information on his people, or his mission. He’s got his guns, he’s going to stick to them. Metaphorically. He doesn’t have a gun. He has arrows.
And fantasy racism. He hates humans. Granted, there’s a pretty good reason, since they ended up throwing the world sideways by murdering the literal king of dragons, and are kiiiiind of responsible for starting a nasty trend of using black magic, which tends to involve more murder… but still. Humans are a “kill and/or maim first, interrogate later” species. There’s exactly zero love here. He doesn’t go out of his way to hunt them down, from what we see. But those who cross his way don’t usually end up well, afterward. He’s always quick to denounce them, to insult them. They are less than, well, human, in his eyes.
