Oddly, Hangdog seems to have a nose for snooping out buried or hidden objects. It will relentlessly pursue that which is hidden, digging for hours and hours if it needs to, unable to be dissuaded from its task until it recovers what it desires. Most of the items it finds are trash...but, hey, it seems happy about its prizes.
