Lost Temple: Exploration

Top Section	The three floors closest to the surface. Due to the light streaming in through the porthole like windows that line the walls, this is the brightest, most airy feeling section of the Temple. The hallways here are fairly broad and the curved ceilings tower high above the average person's head. Many large, circular chambers can be found in this section, the sort that might once have been used to receive guests in the Temple. Though time has had its effects on most of the objects decorating the halls and chambers, you can still see this section of the Temple must once have been richly decorated. Pokemon (lvl 10-30): Squirtle, Poliwag, Seel, Shelder, Krabby, Staryu, Corphish, Feebas, Magikarp, Shellos, Chinchou, Corsola, Lotad, Barboach, Kabuto, Binacle, Clamperl, Castform (Rainy form), Popplio, Pyukumuku, Wooper, Dewpider, Dratini, Pincurchin Pieces of Slab found: 8/8
Middle Section	The middle section consists of seven floors. Though some light still filters in from outside, most of the illumination here comes from strange, glowing crystals that are set at regular intervals along the walls. The hallways here are more narrow and less grand. The same goes for the chambers. You get the idea that this part of the Temple was perhaps more the personal domain of whoever once tended to this Temple. Compared to the first section, there are more hidden areas here, as well as traps preventing unauthorised individuals from accessing what had once been kept in this area of the Temple. Pokemon (lvl 20-60): Corsola, Corsola (Galarian), Gorebyss, Luvdisc, Finneon, Alomomola, Clauncher, Brionne, Wishiwashi, Arrokuda, Tentacool, Lanturn, Marill, Quagsire, Horsea, Marshtomp, Tirtouga, Frillish, Omanyte, Kabutops, Skrelp, Dragonair, Mareanie, Sealeo, Lileep, Anorith, Relicanth Pieces of Slab found: 8/8
Lowest Section	The lowest section of the temple. You can barely go down a single floor before you hit the water. It seems that this part of the temple is partially (or perhaps entirely) submerged in water. Anyone interested in exploring this part of the temple will need to be ready to swim and have a pokemon that knows Dive*. The sunlight from above does not penetrate this deeply in the water, and the light that illuminates the large labyrinthine hallways in this section of the temple comes from strange, bioluminescent corals and water plants that cover the walls. From the way they are grown, it's clear they were purposely coaxed to grow in those area. Additionally, because of the submerged nature of this area of the temple, it seems that whoever designed this area fully took advantage of the fact that the water allows people to move in all directions, and nothing like staircases can be found. As you get lower, the floors get smaller, growing more narrow as you travel down the tail end of the temple. * If your pokemon are incapable of Dive, the Legendary Seekers will recommend a trip to the Marine Research Institute on Sevii Island Four, where a Move Tutor for this move is available. Exploring the top section of the underwater temple, Eri, Rei, Louie and Huey follow several long, twisting hallways until they finally come across a pair of huge doors. Some strength will be required to open them, but once they are open, they will find what must once have been a library.

Unfortunately, time and humidity destroyed most of the books here, though some fragments of texts and illustrations can still be found.


Treasures: While exploring

Rei finds a book that seems to have survived the onslaught of time to a remarkable degree. While not all of the book is readable anymore, many pages remain. It turns out to be some sort of cookbook. Many of the recipes sound rather strange to our modern ears, mixing ingredients together that really don't seem like they should work together at all. Should she ever try to make the recipes in the book, they have about a 50/50% chance of either being completely, mind-blowingly incredible or just completely inedible, making you wonder just what was up with those ancient people. Froakie-eye salad? Really?

In addition, Eri comes across a very delicate, sapphire Tirtouga figurine. Narrow rivulets of gold have been cast into the shield of the turtle. There is a small amount of damage to one of its flippers, but beyond that, the small figurine is in remarkable condition.

In addition, Huey finds a huge chunk of amber sitting in what may once have been a display case in the centre of the library. Once the dust and grime have been carefully cleaned away from the precious stone, the fossil of a small, ancient species of Yanma can be seen inside.

In addition, Louie finds a map tucked in one of the many ruined books. Surprisingly, the map has not entirely been destroyed by age. It will take some time to completely decipher as it does have extensive time-related, but once done so, it seems to lead to a location deeper inside of the temple, on the middle level. There is no telling what the map leads to.

As they explore the top level of the temple, Claudia, Shinobu and Sandalphon come across an open-roofed chamber giving an incredible view of the blue sky above. Which would be amazing, as they are all still definitely underwater.

A closer look at the ceiling reveals that rather than an actual sky, it is a very, very cleverly made mosaic, using various shades of seaglass to mimic the clear blue of the open sky.

Treasures:

Claudia finds a strange, egg-shaped ceramic vessel. It's small enough that it fits in the cupped palms for her hands. There is a hole in the top of the pot, as well as six (in two rows of threes) holes on the front, and two on the back. It has been glazed, and delicate wave patterns have been painted onto the surface of the pot. It may not be immediately clear to her, but it is actually an ancient type of instrument!

In addition, Shinobu finds an ancient book. Time and water have caused damage to its bindings and several of its pages, but the surviving pages show illustrations of various sea pokemon, song notes and simple lyrics which, when deciphered, appear to be about the pictured pokemon. The relative simplicity of the notes and words gives the impression that these were perhaps meant for children.

In addition, Sandalphon finds an ancient chest. It is not extremely large, and once he eases off the lid (the hinges are a bit worn and rusted), inside he will find three different-sized conches. At first they seem like just the normal shells one might find on the beach, but closer inspection shows that each conch has been modified, with small added holes and mouth-pieces. It seems that these were once used as instruments!

They came here for traps, and by god, traps are what they are finding! Most of them are relatively minor, though, until they finally come to what seems to be a dead-end. After some investigation, they find that the wall is a door and after some fiddling around with the mechanism holding it in place, the wall suddenly pivots, sweeping the four along with it.

With the wall slamming down shut behind them, they come face to face with a mob of Kabutops. And the only exit is now shut behind them.

Once they have dealt with the kabutops (in whichever way you prefer) they can explore the room. It's not all that big, and along the back wall, there are several slimy piles of refuse. It is hard to say exactly what those piles are made of --though you can definitely see bones and, uh, is that hide?-- but there is also the faint sparkle of something shiny hidden amongst the gunk.

If they are willing the brave the absolute ickiness of it all, a thorough examination of the piles will reveal




Treasures: In addition searching through the piles

Steven finds a gun. An actual, honest to god, gun. Of course, it's an incredibly old one and very far from functional, but with enough time and dedication, one should be able to at least clean it up enough to be displayed. The gun is of the dragon type often seen in movies about pirates (they do get the occasional thing right) and a Gyarados has been engraved on the barrel.

In addition, Thace a remarkable figurine of Kyogre. It seems to have been cut from some sort of bone (Wailord bone, should he ever be interested in finding out) and the detail is quite extraordinary. It almost makes you feel as if it could come to life at any second.

In addition, Raphalia finds an old pocket watch with a long golden chain. The watch does not currently work (though, perhaps, if you were to clean it up properly...) but even as just a display piece it is pretty stunning. The lid of the pocket watch has been engraved with a rough world map, and on the back, the inscription 'May you always return to me' can still be made out.

In addition, Hawks finds a small stone statue of a Seaking. It lacks the intricate details of Thace's statue but when he lifts it, he'll hear something rattling inside. On close examination, there is a small, hidden latch, which allows the statue to open up. Inside Hawks will find a brass key and a gleaming pearl.

Exploring the middle section, the team follows several long and twisting hallways only to suddenly come to a dead end. However, some knocking on the wall quickly reveals there is some sort of chamber behind it, and after quite a bit of investigation, they find the hidden switch that allows the door to swing open.

What they find is a small, narrow space. At best, two people could squeeze in here. The room contains a number of shelves and... is that a pail? Yes, it is. And that... that does seem to be the remains of some sort of broom.

Yes, you have done it. You've found ye olden janitor's olden broom closet.

Should they choose to explore the area, they will find, tucked away in a hidden groove of one of the stone shelves, a sheaf of parchment. Which, when carefully unfurled, reveals a pin-up (incredibly tame) of a temple priestess, leaning over the edge of a pool to empty an amphora of water.

Listen, it gets lonely down in the olden broom closet, okay? Do not judge.

Their exploration carries Stanford Pine and the Millennial Tree Cookie down far into the middle level, quite near to the lowest level. The hallway they are in slowly grows more and more sober, with fewer decorations and carvings on the walls, until it finally comes to a pair of a giant, double doors. When opened, they step into a room filled with bones. The bones, which a quick check will show to be those belonging to various species of pokemon, are neatly stacked along the walls, the empty eye sockets of various skulls staring at them from atop of the piles.

It’s hard to tell why these bones are here. Are these pokemon that fell in defence of the temple? Are these simply the bones of the pokemon who had once lived here and had been granted the honour of burial inside the temple? Sacrifices? You just don’t know.

Treasure:

Stanford Pines finds a tablet full of ancient writings. It is long and seems like it might be important. When finally translated however (a process that will take a while due to the age of this tablet), it turns out to be a complaint from a local fisher, complaining about how the light shining off the temple wakes him up early in the morning, and how the sounds of the spires keep him up at night, and how all the water pokemon living in the temple have chased away the fish and (it goes on and on)

Just… why was this here?

In addition, Millennial Tree Cookie finds a bone carving of a Milotic, the eye on top suggesting it may once have been part of a necklace. Though the craftsmanship isn’t necessarily of the highest level, there is something very loving in the way the carving was made which makes one wonder if it was perhaps a tribute to a passed pokemon partner.

As they wander the long and twisting hallways, at some point Armin and Mari start noticing a low, rhythmic beat coming from somewhere. It’s quite hard to track at first, soft as it is, but as they close in on it, the sound gets louder until suddenly, the music on their gears switches to this odd tune. The chamber they come to may once have been more of a crossroads, with various hallways branching off it. But that is not important. What is important is that this chamber is filled with Krabbies all clicking and tapping their claws to the rhythm of the music. The sudden appearance of two humans in their midst leads to a tense moment where all the crabs seem to freeze and stare before one (perhaps a leader of sorts) slowly raises his claws and starts up the beat again, cocking his head (in as far as that is physically possible for a crab) at the intruders.

After joining in on the Krabby dance party, the Krabby confer among themselves, before a few of them scatter down one of the hallways. They soon return, carrying a large silver goblet, which they place in front of Mari. Based on the level of craftsmanship, it’s apparent that this was not just your average drinking goblet. The Goblet has been artfully engraved with Latias and Latios, one side of the goblet showing them in their regular form, while the other portrays them in their mega forms.

Another Krabby approaches Armin and puts a cracked heart scale in front of him. It strongly feels like a participation trophy.

Exploring the dark waters at the bottom of the temple, Steve, Doppio and Riku actually eventually hit on a few hallways that lead upwards to a chamber that is actually dry. It’s strange. They are definitely still deep down in the lowest section of the temple, but this area must have been constructed in such a way that it remains dry.

Though, calling it a chamber doesn’t really seem to cover the expanse of the room, which is wide enough to easily accommodate a proper pokemon battle. And with the multiple levels of stone benches on either side of the room, it almost seems more like an arena. Perhaps in a long distance past, Temple followers would spar here? Or perhaps they battled their pokemon in some sort of ritual manner?

Of course, it could be the very first underwater theatre. It’s hard to tell sometimes.

Treasures:

While exploring, Steve finds, sitting on a little ancient plate, a hot dog. It’s not a fake, stone hot dog that may have once served as an advertisement for whatever underwater chain of concession stands supplied this place. It’s just a literal, completely normal hot dog. It’s cool to the touch, yes, but other than that, it looks exactly as if someone got it ten minutes ago, put it down on the bench and forgot about it.

While making his hot dog discovery, Steve also finds a small pouch between a few of the benches, filled with ancient coins.


In addition, while exploring Doppio finds an ancient mask. It has a strange, layered appearance, made up of a dark, frowning face and then on top of that face, there is a second, pale coloured and brightly smiling face, split in the middle to show the frowning face underneath. Both layers of the mask are richly decorated. Judging by the leather straps, it was something that was meant to be worn. Perhaps this place was a theatre, after all?


In addition, Riku finds a vase. The rim is a bit chipped, but other than that, it’s undamaged. A scene has been painted on the vase, depicting Kyogre on one side and Groudon on the other. Between the two legendary pokemon smaller figures have been painted of what seem to be ancient, masked trainers battling their pokemon. Perhaps the vase depicts the true nature of this arena as a place of both battle and performance, where ancient tales of battle were brought to life through to life by actors and their pokemon.
