A follow up question: does it take a pokeball to register a wild Pokemon to a trainer?
Thace follows the rules battling other trainers only with his Pokemon that have a Pokeball, while the others that don't are just tagging along with him while (I thought) still being technically wild and not actually his. They battle each other, and wild Pokemon, except for the baby Whismur who's adopted Thace as a parent.
The reason I've been doing it like that is that Thace hasn't had time to become comfortable with the idea of the storage system yet (Pokeballs still weird him out, so even most of his caught Pokemon are never in their balls). One of the mod replies to previous questions implied that it was possible to do, and I have planned for Thace to slowly get comfortable with balls and PCs in order to have a "proper" team of six and then transfers in and out of the PC.
If the answer is no, I can just retcon out a couple of his Pokemon companions, but I figured I should ask for clarification. (He's probably not acquiring any more permanent companions any time soon, but who knows.)
A related question: I'm assuming that the storage system is still only accessed from PCs in Pokecenters and the like, but will it eventually be possible to do anywhere transfer like in Sword and Shield? That would be a great thing, and probably make Thace (and maybe other characters?) feel more confident about storage.
