I have a slightly complex question in regards to the whole being able to understand Pokémon thing.
Basically, the canon that Emet-Selch is from, people like him and some others possess something called the echo which allows them to understand any language because they speak to and hear from the soul directly. This would likely extend to animals and beasts, but from what we understand it's less so that animals are the exception because they're animals, and more because they lack the soul to communicate to. Or, at least a soul complex enough for it to work.
So, I guess my question is: do Pokémon have souls? And if so, would the echo work to be able to communicate and understand them? Because the main thing this hinges on is the presence of a soul.
