Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Jinx | [personal profile] badluckbabe
Badge/Gym Leader: Cianwood
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Ms. Fortune
Hex

Battle Details: Jinx is only really bringing Hex as backup in case something goes wrong, but she's not telling Miss Fortune this because as soon as she found out it was a fighting type gym the fire cat wrestler wanted to be the main attraction.

Releasing the other five pokemon on her team so they could watch the fight and cheer alongside her, Jinx, Hex, Noir, Mr. E, Strawbeary and Zest watched as Ms. Fortune entered the ring swaggering about not out of pride, but confidence. This was what she had been training for!

The battles were not easy for her either. Knowing that endurance was the name of the game, Jinx cautioned Ms. Fortune to play up her defense in the first fight with Hitmonlee. It seemed to help in the long run as she spent more time blocking and dodging then attacking. Finally when the time came to strike, Hitmonlee was worn out and a critical hit sealed the deal.

Hitmonchan was harder to pin down. The boxer pokemon was too aggressive to be danced around and so Ms. Fortune met them head on, exchanging blows that rocked the arena. One miss fired punch was all Ms. Fortune needed to send Hitmonchan flying across the floor.

The final challenge, and the most difficult would be the Poliwrath. Knowing her weakness to water Ms. Fortune was on the defensive again, her aching muscles making it hard to keep dodging around the splashing blasts of water trying to smother her flames of determination.

Unable to use the arena to her advantage as it was a plain and simple dojo style set up, Ms. Fortune opted to try something new by blasting her flame attacks at the ground, propelling her over the pools of water Poliwrath was creating, and coming crashing down ontop of him. What followed next was a flurry of up close blows between the two as they tore into each other and rolled around the arena locked in mutual chokeholds.

But as the dust settled and the two rose to their feet panting and gasping for breath...Poliwrath fell. With one sliver of her HP remaining, so weak she could get knocked over by a feather Ms. Fortune was victorious!

....and if you don't believe that version of the story, Jinx still has Hex in the wings.

Character: Rakka | [personal profile] charcoalfeather
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Bright the Espurr, Kuu the Togekiss, Star the Lampent, and Kūki, Fezā, and Tamashī the Dodrio
Battle Details: Super backdated to the 15th. Rakka's here! She's scared! She's letting Bright lead the charge!

Due to type advantage, she'll mostly focus on using Bright in this fight, utilizing her psychic powers against the ghosts seems like the best bet here. And she'll be switching her out with Kuu or Star to take advantage of their moves/resistances against ghost and dark attacks.

Kūki, Fezā, and Tamashī the Dodrio are there mainly for support in case one of the others happens to faint, and also moral support, because Rakka needs some of that. Thank you for your encouragement, Penny.

All in all she's careful, but she feels fairly sure of herself.

Chocochick (lv.100)
Carbuncle (lv. 94)
Pride (lv. 88)

Battle Details:
Given the level advantage he has over the gym team, Noctis is going to go for an all out assault to power through this.

Chocochick and Carbuncle are going to be responsible for Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, using their type advantages to hit them hard and fast. The Toucannon will be utilizing her Drill Peck move along with Beak Blast and Aerial Ace. The Espeon will be a combination of Quick Attack and Psychic to take down his opponent, relying on speed and the sheer force of his Psychic abilities to finish off the Hitmonchan.

Pride will take on the Poliwrath, using Electric Terrain to boost his attacks before finishing off his opponent with Thunder Fang.

Character: Stanford Pines | [personal profile] meteorman
Badge/Gym Leader: Cascade Badge | Misty
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Fantastic Mr. Fox (lv. 65)
Battle Details:

FOX ONLY ONE ITEM* FINAL DESTINATION
*and it's not even a helpful item really

Emboldened by sweeping his last gym challenge with a single Pokémon, Ford is pushing his luck a little further this time by taking a single Fire type to a Water gym. While Mr. Fox has a level advantage, it's a much closer gap than Titania's battle and there are three Pokémon he'll need to take down to win. He's got his charcoal on but in this gym it's pretty much just morale-boosting war paint more than any tactical advantage. Luckily his nature gives him a bit of a boost to special defense, which is helpful when the vast majority of moves he'll have to deal with are special moves.

First thing will be setting up a Nasty Plot just for that extra edge. Luckily the Golduck is out first and is the easiest of Misty's Pokémon to deal with. With the Nasty Plot up he'll opt for an Energy Ball; with the level difference one should be enough to take Golduck down.

Lapras is going to be harder due to its magnificent bulk. Luckily it's slow, and if it happens to be female the first order of business will be using Captivate to lower its special defense. If it isn't, he'll go for Confuse Ray instead to try and lower its ability to hit him. Then it's back to Energy Ball, hoping Mr. Fox's higher speed will get him through with enough HP left over for the Starmie.

And oh, that heckin Starmie. He can't Captivate it since it's genderless, so instead he'll be burning it with Will-o-Wisp which will also lower its high speed. It has access to Rock type moves as well as Water type moves and it can recover, so he wants to be taking no chances. Once Mr. Fox is consistently moving first he'll combine the burn damage and Energy Ball to hopefully take it out quick. If Starmie starts to spam Recover, Ford will take the opportunity to use Nasty Plot again to increase Mr. Fox's damage output.

He expects this battle to be a challenge, but it's no fun if you don't push yourself, right?

Character: Envy | [personal profile] exeggutorhead
Badge/Gym Leader: Soul Badge | Janine
Elite/Regular: ELITE TEAM
Team: Chimera, Leah, Melissa, Samus, Lucky, and Boris
Battle Details: Envy doesn't really train Psychic types, so he's relying mainly on Ground type moves and Samus' Steel type poison immunity, with Lucky's fire for Venomoth and Chimera's rock moves for Crobat. He's going to be mainly relying on his Pokemon without immunity to be bulky enough to tank being hit with Toxic. If it really comes down to it, he'll send out Boris with his Immunity ability to just tank whatever Janine has left to throw at him and get enough hits in to win.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Volcano Badge / Blaine / Cinnabar/Seafoam Islands
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Ambergris the Wailord (lvl 70) & Aurora the Dragonair (lvl 72)
Battle Details:

Sometimes a family is a small teenager and his two giant beloved daughters. AKA. Armin is breaking out the big guns for this fight. Quite literally.

Being that Blaine champions fire, Armin is bringing the ocean to him. Though she has never fought in a gym before, Armin saw enough of the Seafoam Islands gym while he was there #findinglugia to know it is big. Big enough to, say, bring a wailord in. Which means he is bringing in his wailord.

Right off the bat, he'll bring out Ambergris to face off against Blaine's Magcargo. Magcargo's type combination means it has a 4x weakness to both water and ground. And Ambergris just happens to have both many water moves and even a ground one. And Armin is going to hit the ground running so to speak. Being that Amber lacks any real status moves, he's just going to depend fully on her strength in this match. Armin will start off by having Amber use Whirlpool, trapping Magcargo, before moving to moves like Bulldoze and Hydro Pump. When Magcargo's health is more than half gone, he'll break out Brine. All of which probably should make for a short battle.

He isn't expecting Amber to be in too much trouble at this point, so he'll also have her take on Blaine's Magmortar with much the same strategy. While Magmortar doesn't have a nice 4x weakness to fire, it is still weak, and Amber meanwhile is strong against fire attacks which encompasses nearly all of Magmortar's arsenal.

At the end of this fight, he will switch Amber out though. Even if she's got health left still, he doesn't want her out of her element for too long!

Which leaves Blaine's Rapidash for Aurora, Armin's dragonair.

Armin will start off this battle by having Aurora use Rain Dance to boost the power of water moves, while weakening fire moves. Afterwards, he'll have Aurora use her Water Pulse (with the added bonus of perhaps confusing Rapidash) and her Aqua tail attacks. Should the battle go on long enough for Rain Dance's effects to go away, Armin will have her use that move again and then focus back on Aurora's water moves. If things start looking dicey, Armin will have Aurora use Rest to top off her HP again, before going back to ye olde waterfight.

Character: Gaige | [personal profile] 2hellwiththe1stlaw
Badge/Gym Leader: Azalea Town / Hive Bade
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Fuego Chili Flechette
Battle Details: Gaige is looking to bust these bugs fast and hard, leading with one of her new friends from the legendary dog incident, Fuego! While Fuego isn't strong enough to really win all the matches, she's got enough fire power and sass to keep Pinsir on it's toes. When it starts to get hurt bad enough however Gaige swaps out for it's surrogate mother, Chili! Chili is furious anyone would dare harm her precious Cyndaquil and cuts a blazing path of destruction through both Pinsir and Heracross. But Gaige is forced to call Chili back when she's done with her second round.

That's ok though because Flechette the Skarmory is ready to bring it home. The battle between Flechette and Scizor is wild and fierce as their metal strikes and sends sparks flying. By the end of this battle Gaige is cackling wildly about anarchy and smashing the system. Honestly Bugsy's probably just glad to be rid of her.

Battle Details: Ignis was always the strategist for the team. He understands that while Luna has the type advantage she is also lower level. He would utilize the heavier brute force of Ravioli (who is an apt fighter and feisty at that) as well as Dahlia's affect abilities to create the best advantage.. But lets be real, Ravioli would want to pound some birds into piles of feathers because he can't say no to a fight.

Battle Details: In a show of arrogance that would drive more careful Pokemon planners Armin insane, Jean barely bothered to research this gym. He'll bring Blitz for the Crobat and try to knock it out of the sky with electricity, Polo to fry the Ariados with fire, and Wing Snake the Dunsparse to hit the Venomoth. Wing Snake is really just along for the ride and to take sucker punches at all the Flying Pokemon; Jean doesn't expect him to add much. Between the two of them, Blitz and Polo are over-leveled enough to not have a problem with this gym.

Character: Jean Kirschtein | [personal profile] notvaljean

Battle Details: For dealing with a Fire-based gym, Jean will lead with Fisch Mordergesicht the Gyarados. Fisch is over-leveled and should be able to take down the gym completely on his own. As cheerleaders, Jean will bring Fat Ice Dog the Spheal and Andrea the Alolan Vulpix, and if they want to take any potshots at Pokemon Fisch has already tuned up a little, then they're allowed (they won't. they just came out to have a good time while Fisch is getting so attacked right now).

Battle Details:
Ash knows two things that beat fighting type Pokemon; Psychics and Birds. And he's got a shit-ton of flying types, surprisingly enough!

Hitchcock leads the assault, using Double Team and Agility to prepare before continuously using Aerial Ace. For each Pokemon he faces, he'll use Brave Bird and, when his HP is low, will use Endeavour to take advantage. When he falls, Fionn comes out next. Sky Drops, Aerial Aces and a Brave Bird for everyone will ensue. Given Fionn's level it's unlikely to escalate further, but if need be he has Carmilla with Aerial Slash, Diarmuid with Psycho Cut and An Tintreach with Wild Charge.

Danny is a last resort while Robin is here to watch her dads battle. GO DADS!

Character: Vanitas | [personal profile] bleedingunversed
Badge/Gym Leader: Rising Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Flood (lv. 100)
Scrapper (lv. 100)
Shadow (lv. 79)
Bruiser (lv. 66)

Battle Details:
Vanitas doesn't exactly have the types he needs to have the advantage in this particular fight but he's going to use the level advantage he's got with Flood and Scrapper to hopefully see his strategy through.

Scrapper's primary target is going to be the Dragonite. Fire isn't going to help her much so Vanitas will have her focusing primarily on her dark moves. Out the gate she's going to use Howl to boost her attack then follow it up with Feint Attack and Crunch to do some hard damage to her opponent. If that doesn't take it down, she'll end it with Rock Smash to use the rock type weakness that the Dragonite has.

Flood and Shadow are going to take on the Kingdra as a tag-team battle of sorts. Shadow will come out first, hitting the sea horse with Confuse Ray and Lick in hopes of inflicting paralysis on it. Should that work, Shadow will hit it with Hex before swapping out with Flood on the next turn. The Phantump will finish Kingdra off with Wood Hammer, doing a fair bit of damage to herself in the process.

Which is fine since Bruiser will be taking care of the Gyarados. Now, Bruiser will be starting the match out as a Gible, utilizing dragon-type moves to do some damage to the Gyarados, particularly Dragon Rage and Dragon Claw. Towards the end of the battle, Bruiser is going to evolve all the way up to a Garchomp due to his high level as it is and finish the battle, hopefully, with Dragon Rush and a final blow of Rock Smash.
