Every challenge along the way, with courage I will face.

MAIN INFORMATION

ABOUT THE AURORA LEAGUE:

With the Elite Four finally open for business, it was only a matter of time before the newcomers to Johto and Kanto developed a taste for victory. Winning badges and prestige is all well and good, but some daring trainers desired more. Nothing could douse the fire in their hearts! It was then that the Elite Four decided they deserved a league all their own-- for who else had such experience than those from entirely different worlds?

The goal of the Aurora League is to bring new and innovative Gym Leaders to Johto and Kanto. It's not intended to be competition (although some of the locals certainly feel that way!), just a way of allowing trainers access to a greater variety of challenges than the Indigo League offers alone. It was a big move for the Elite Four, and they have a vested interest in encouraging this fledgling league as much as possible.

BECOMING AN AURORA GYM LEADER:

To join the Aurora League, trainers must first complete the Indigo League Challenge. That is to say, they must:
1. Obtain all sixteen Indigo League Gym Badges.
2. Travel the arduous Victory Road all the way to the Indigo Plateau.
3. Defeat all five members of the Indigo Elite: Will, Koga, Bruno, Karen, and the representing champion, Lance.
OOCly, players must (over time) submit badge requests for mod approval every time they wish to challenge and defeat a Gym. This also goes for challenges against the E4.

When all of this has been done, you are eligible to request an official Aurora League gym of your very own! To do this, please fill out the following template with your gym's details and leave it in a comment here. Before filling out your request, we recommend reading through the Aurora League Questions and Guidelines below.

CHALLENGING AN AURORA GYM LEADER:

Anyone is free to challenge an Aurora League Gym! As these Gyms are completely player-run, challenges made to Aurora Gyms will not be moderated like the Indigo League badge requests are. Instead, interested parties should contact the player(s) in charge of the Gym in question and plot with them one-on-one!

GYM REQUEST GUIDELINES AND QUESTIONS

CHOOSING A LOCATION FOR YOUR GYM:

An Aurora League Gym can be anywhere! Of course, characters (and players!) should keep some things in mind while picking a location. Running a Gym can wind up being a very different experience depending on where you're operating it!

Placing a Gym in a highly-populated city will ensure a fairly steady flow of traffic, but you may also wind up competing for attention with other Gyms (especially if there's already a well-established Indigo League one around!). A Gym in a remote corner of the Johto wilderness will certainly stand out and draw some adventurous souls, but there could also be days on end with no challengers at all.

Likewise, the local flavor can really make or break a Gym's theme. An aspiring Gym Leader who wants an emphasis on competitive tactics and hardcore training will have better luck in battle-happy Viridian City than a sleepy town like Azalea! But hey, if you can get those old folks excited about your X-TREME CHALLENGE, more power to you!

When approving your request, the mods will provide any pertinent information about what to expect regards to the local reaction and subsequent flow of business.

BUILDING, NAMING, AND THEMING YOUR GYM:

After being declared eligible for Aurora Gym Leadership, it is up to your character to crack down and take up the task of brainstorming a design for their Gym. Once they've come up with something to their satisfaction, they ICly submit it to the Indigo League. Between receiving/evaluating your character's design concepts and physically building the facilities, it takes roughly 1-2 months for the Indigo League to bring that design to life. Fortunately, all expenses for materials and hard labor are covered by the League. Your character is still expected to be actively involved in the process, though! No vacationing in Alola while construction workers and their Pokemon sweat to make your Aurora dreams a reality!

Next comes giving your Gym an official title! To avoid confusion, Aurora League Gym Leaders are encouraged to steer clear of names that would be too similar to an already-existing Indigo League Gym. For example, someone opening a gym in Union Cave would be welcome to call their gym the Union Cave Gym, but someone opening their gym in Cerulean City would be politely advised to distinguish themselves so that trainers looking to earn the Cascadebadge don’t keep wandering into their gym by accident and yelling "WHERE’S MISTY?!"

Lastly, while not required, Aurora Gyms are also encouraged to distinguish themselves with interesting, innovative battle elements and gimmicks that, ideally, match their Gym's design and name. The Indigo League Gyms are almost exclusively themed around Pokemon types, so why not try something different? Your theme can be cute Pokémon, or Pokémon that are purple, or Pokemon that are cute and purple, or Batman. Maybe instead of winning a traditional battle, challengers need to beat your Alakazam at chess. Maybe they open the door and there's just a giant pit full of Feraligatrs and if they manage to not obliviously walk forward and fall in, they get the badge. The sky's the limit! Go wild!

DESIGNING YOUR BADGE:

As long as they can all be made into little pins, badge design is entirely up to the Gym Leader’s discretion! ICly, Leaders are free to stick to a cohesive theme if they choose, but as long as each one chooses a unique design, no one is obligated to make them match up with other Aurora League badges. The Aurora League is shaping up to be a little more free-spirited than its deep blue predecessor, and Lance is personally really enjoying seeing each Leader's individuality shine through.

STIPENDS AND REWARDS:

The Pokemon League covers all gym-related expenses, including both the Leader's personal paycheck as well as the monetary rewards handed out to victorious challengers:
  • Stipend: While nobody is expected to put in 40 hours a week at their Gym if they don't want to (although they should expect to be available for challenges at LEAST one day a week), being a Gym Leader is a lot of work. As such, the Pokemon League expects its Aurora Leaders to be able to live comfortably with their Gym as a full-time job if they choose. Each Aurora Gym Leader will receive a personal salary of P18000 per workday.
  • Rewards: Barring a mistake/accident on the League accountant’s end, at no point will the Leader be forced to pay out of pocket while giving someone their winnings. They do, however, have the freedom to decide how much their Gym will give out, which will be budgeted by the League accordingly. The reward should be roughly equivalent to the reward handed out at similarly-leveled Indigo League Gyms.
  • Unlike the Indigo League, however, Aurora Gyms will not be provided with nor required to give out a TM. Instead, hoping to further distinguish the Aurora Gyms from the Indigos, the Pokemon League has decided to make their exclusive battle item stock available to Aurora League Leaders. Held items are particularly rare in the world of Victory Road, often available only at holiday markets or in obscure corners of the map. Many of the items offered by the League cannot be found anywhere else at all!

Each Leader may select ONE type of battle item to be gifted to winning trainers. They may also utilize said item-type for their own Pokemon, or even for helper trainers who work at the Gym. As Leaders may not change their chosen item, they’re encouraged to pick one with significance-- something fitting for their gym, or even just their personal favorite.

(Note: Unfortunately, they will not be permitted to start losing on purpose to their friends so that they can pass these rare items out to pals en masse-- the Pokemon League takes the Gym Leader title very seriously, and abuse of the position will be dealt with harshly! Play fair, everyone!)

    NPC HELPERS AND CHALLENGERS:

While player characters are encouraged to challenge Aurora Gyms, they are not the only activity your Gym can expect to see! The world of Pokemon is bustling with a thriving NPC population, many of whom will be just as curious about these new establishments as the player characters are. As mentioned in the Location section above, the locale will be important in determining just how much action your Gym sees on a daily basis; Aurora League Gyms in heavily-populated areas such as towns and cities can probably expect a fairly steady number of NPC trainers challenging them, while ones in more remote areas may get fewer visitors-- maybe two or three straggling in a week.

And what's a Gym without a squad of aspiring apprentice trainers to wear down your challengers a little before they get to you? Leaders may find local trainers eager for the chance to learn from a regional Champion applying for jobs within the Gym-- and part of the League's budget is available for hiring help if your character so chooses. You are free to come up with regular NPC employees and even play them if you'd like-- just keep the numbers within reason. No moderately-sized gym needs more than 10-20 people around to gang up on a challenger!

THE AURORA LEAGUE HALL OF FAME

    THE COLLEGIATE GYM:

Gym Leader: Sion Astal ([personal profile] dreamsofahero) and Ryner Lute ([personal profile] tearsofademon)
    Gym Location: Ecruteak City, Johto
    Badge: Tactician Badge
Item Reward: Light Clay and Terrain Extender
Badge Approval and Gym Information: Retired characters
    Specialization:
A gym that challenges trainers to think on their feet! Remember Sinnoh's Battle Factory? Yeah, basically that.

The challenger will be given six random "rental" Pokémon supplied by the gym to use, of which they may choose three to battle with. The gym leader likewise will be randomly assigned three Pokémon. The challenger will see which three the leader has received, but not their movesets; the gym leader will not know what's on the challenger's team.

    THE LUNAR GYM:

Gym Leader: Cecil Harvey ([personal profile] paladinlost)
    Gym Location: Route 7, Kanto
    Badge: Selenian Badge
    Item Reward: Shell Bell
Badge Approval and Gym Information: LINK
    Specialization:
Inverse Battles, with two different options: normal battles and mirror matches.

The normal format involves a battle against one of four potential teams (New/Waxing/Full/Waning), randomly chosen by interacting with the PC in the corridor. Each team contains six level 100 Pokémon. The challenger is told which team they'll be facing, and has the opportunity to change their own before the beginning of the match. Cecil is unaware of the challenger's team before the battle, and starts with support or neutral moves to allow the challenger to show they understand the Gym's specialty.

Challengers with six level 100 Pokémon that match Cecil's team can request a mirror match, in which both participants knowingly use the same Pokémon. During mirror matches, Cecil does not start with neutral attacks and assumes that the challenger understands the current type matchups. No additional rewards are offered for winning a mirror match (beyond the pride and glory).

    THE PELAGIC GYM:

Gym Leader: Armin Arlert ([personal profile] schachmeister)
Gym Location: Uninhabited island in the Sevii Islands archipalago
    Badge: Abyss Badge
    Item Reward: Mystic Water
Badge Approval and Gym Information: Retired character
    Specialization:
    Underwater battling

In this gym, trainers will be challenged to forget all they know about battling on land, and instead adapt their skills to battling underneath the waves. In an environment where movement in every direction is possible, and where the pressure of the water around them forms an ever-present companion, trainers will find that some moves don't quite work the same as they do on land.

Special environmental rules apply to these battles, which can be found here.

    THE FLETCHER GYM:

Gym Leader: Jane Crocker ([personal profile] cyan_maid)
    Gym Location: Goldenrod City
    Badge: Cluedo Badge
    Item Reward: Scope Lens
Badge Approval and Gym Information: Retired character
    Specialization:
    Mystery and Deception

Looks can be deceiving, and the Fletcher Gym is no exception! What seems to be a tidy and humble townhouse on the edge of the wharf district is actually quite plush and cosy inside, but there's an air of mystery about the place. The very atmosphere buzzes with the urge to poke and prod, and you are encouraged to do so! But don't blame us if you find a secret passage or three in the process! Wherever could they go, though? The hallways are far too long to be from one building, and all the twists and turns can be disorienting...but at the end of it, you can be sure there's a gutsy gumshoe waiting for your challenge!

Alternatively, those seeking the assistance of a fledgeling private investigator can request the services of one Jane Crocker with ease! Just let the receptionist know which it is you're looking for. ;B

    THE TWO ISLAND (MARRIED) GYM

Gym Leader: Carly Nagisa ([personal profile] insidescoop) and Jolyne Cujoh ([personal profile] strings_theory)
Gym Location: Two Island, Sevii Islands
Badge: Love Badge / War Badge
Item Reward: Shed Shell or Expert Belt
Badge Approval and Gym Information: Retired character, currently still processing challenges
    Specialization:
    Ingenuity and resolve

A gym that combines the prowess of two gym leaders. For half the week, this gym is the domain of Carly and her love badge, a badge you can only earn not through battle, but through the act of diplomacy and friendship. The other half of the week, this gym is the domain of Jolyne and all thought of diplomacy goes out the window as the gym becomes the scene of all out, no holds-barred battling where you must weather Jolyne's battling for a certain period of time.

Make sure not to show up on the wrong day, or you might find yourself facing a challenge far different from what you imagined!

    THE PETAL GYM

Gym Leader: Emporio Alniño ([personal profile] seacub)
Gym Location: New Bark Town & woods alongside Route 29
    Badge: Petal Badge
    Item Reward: Safety Goggles
Badge Approval and Gym Information: LINK
    Specialization:
    Wilderness travel and safety

Prove yourself to the wilds of Johto and elsewhere, by taking the challenge of a Pokemon Triathlon! Each form of the course and challenge involves an obstacle course, a vehicular course (with bikes, paddle boats, or skiis on loan), and lastly, a course focused on Pokemon riding.

Trainers will be encouraged to pace themselves, coming to understand how to safely camp in various conditions, while learning their limits and the limits of their Pokemon. While the details of the course vary, rotating between environment-based themes, the end goal is the same: master the land by working in harmony with your Pokemon, so it doesn't master you!

In addition, the Gym building in town hosts a small store where one can purchase camping equipment and supplies- for newcoming import trainers, they are allowed to take such packages on loan. The Petal Gym also provides classes on safe camping in a variety of terrain and weather conditions, which are hosted using the same field used for the Gym's challenge.

Name of the Character Requesting a Building: Emporio Alniño
    Proof: Here!
Location: New Bark Town. If that doesn't work, then the route just off New Bark (R29)
    Name: Petal Gym
Hours: Technically 24/7; by the nature of the Gym, Emporio constantly has a day's notice to get there for each challenge, with trainers on watch in rotating shifts.
Difficulty: This gym takes all ranges, however- Challengers will be required to either take the offered survival course first, or display four gym badges.
Gym Specialization: Wilderness travel and safety
Gym Design: Emporio's Gym will be so located to offer support to new trainers entering the region- for this reason, it's located in New Bark. The main front of the Gym, the structure within the town itself, hosts a small store where one can purchase camping equipment and supplies- for newcoming import trainers, they are allowed to take such packages on loan. In addition, the gym provides classes on safe camping in a variety of terrain and weather conditions, which are hosted using the same field used for the Gym's challenge.

Challengers approaching the gym will face a differing form of camping Triathlon, dependent on the current weather and season. This triathlon goes through a small course over two full days, and challengers will be watched over by Gym staff from a distance for safety reasons. Upon reaching the end of the course, challengers will face Emporio in a pokemon battle- however, 'Winning' does not require defeating him. Rather, if a challenger is smart enough to either recognize their weakness in a situation where Emporio outlevels them, they will earn the badge due to their intelligence.

To survive pokemon in the wild does not mean to crush all opposition underfoot, as he explains. It requires knowing when you are outmatched, and being able to retreat to fight another day. To heal your pokemon without pushing them so hard that they need rescue.
Badge Name and Appearance: The Petal Badge is unique, resembling a small five petal pin with a much larger five-petal frame surrounding it. This frame can hold five glass petals- Emporio presents the badge with a differently colored petal according to the challenge course completed at the time. Technically however, the glass petals aren't part of the Official Badge.
    Trainer Rewards: Safety Goggles
Link to Badge Request page: Here; a more in-depth description of the gym will go here as well, as well as the teams involved.
Blurb (Optional): Prove yourself to the wilds of Johto and elsewhere, by taking the challenge of a Pokemon Triathlon! Each form of the course and challenge involves an obstacle course, a vehicular course (bikes will be offered on loan, as well as paddle boats and skiis), and lastly, a course focused on pokemon riding.

Trainers will be encouraged to pace themselves, coming to understand how to safely camp in various conditions, while learning their limits and the limits of their pokemon. To that end, while a battle against Emporio looms at the end of the course, there can be victory found in loss as well- if trainers recognize a need to retreat or back down, they will earn the badge.

By the nature of the gym, various weather conditions will take effect during this battle: In the Summer, a constant Sunny condition will beat down on an aquatic field. During Winter, heavy snow will cover this field, causing the weather to be Snowy. Autumn will see the craggy cave and fog conditions, while Spring brings forward a downpour of rain among trees and tall grass. In evening hours, when snow and flood water isn't present, the field mimics a sandstorm field with volcanic terrain instead.

While each course is unique, the end goal is the same- Master the land by working in harmony with your Pokemon, so it doesn't master you!

    [personal profile] seacub 2025-01-14 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
When I made the plans I'd pictured it going through the woods that surround the routes, so, its own grounds...but if an agreement to use parts of existing routes is better, I don't mind going with that instead; I do know that the layout construction was part of what contributed to timing of the challenges (and was why Emporio could just fly there and wait), and I'd envisioned construction being helped along with 'Secret Power'...

...well, in any case, it's meant to be very maze-like, rather than something too expansive. As it stands, which ever call for the location of the course/grounds is more appropriate here, I'll follow.
