Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Elsa | [personal profile] frozenfractalsallaround
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge/Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: here
Battle Details: Elsa will start off the battle with her Absol. He's her heavy hitter and she knows he has a wide arsenal to work with. In the heat of the moment, it doesn't come to Elsa right away that dark types are strong against Girafarig, but when she does remember that's what she'll focus on using to help win the battle. Since Absol has a level advantage, if he makes it through Girafarig she'll keep using him

Elsa will keep using Absol as much as she can, using his heaviest hitting moves, then she'll switch to Alolan Ninetales when he can no longer battle.

Once Ninetales is on the field, Elsa is going to seem more confident. She's still riding the rush of Skadi evolving, so to her they're on top of the world. She seems more sure of things as she commands Skadi. She'll use her most powerful ice attacks, primarily Blizzard, to help push the battle in her favor.

Should Ninetales fall, her third Pokemon will be a fire type Vulpix. He doesn't have a level advantage like the others, but he more than makes up for that in energy and enthusiasm. It's his first gym battle and he's here to impress Elsa and have a good time! He bounds around the battle field with the energy of a puppy hyped up on sugar. He listens to Elsa whatever she commands, though in his eagerness he can and will flub a few attacks, but when he doesn't miss he hits hard and fast.

Character: Elsa | [personal profile] frozenfractalsallaround
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge/Bugsy

Battle Details: Elsa goes into this battle knowing she has a type advantage and a level advantage. It isn't often Elsa has this much confidence, but she and her Pokemon have been working together so well lately, she feels like she's got this.

Elsa will lead the battle off with her fire type Vulpix. He's gonna be super cocky going into this battle, feeding off of Elsa's own confidence. He'll put a lot of extra oomph into his fire attacks, really giving this battle his all because he feels like he's really making his trainer proud. As full as energy as ever, he'll dart around the stage with excitement and enthusiasm, which very well could be his downfall.

Regardless if Vulpix falls before or after, Elsa will swap him out when she has to go up against Scizor because she knows he could use a break. She'll send out her Alolan Ninetales to battle Scizor and aim to take him down with Blizzard and ice type moves as quickly as possible.

Character: Stanford Pines | [personal profile] meteorman
Badge/Gym Leader: Earth Badge | Blue
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Scylla (lv. 60), Jellybean (lv. 60), Mirkwood (lv. 64), Kerouac (lv. 70), MIPS (lv. 80), Fantastic Mr. Fox (lv. 90)
Battle Details: Ford is here for his final Kanto badge! It's time. He's ready. Unlucky badge thirteen at easily the hardest gym in both regions, here we go.

He's brought a team mostly on-par with Blue's, with Mr. Fox and MIPS in the back for some extra levels in case he winds up in a tight spot. He's done his research on Blue's team because he's Ford Pines and can't not do research, so he's got a contingency plan for most of the Pokémon he might face.

He'll be leading with Scylla, both to gauge things out and because she has moves that will hit a lot of Blue's Pokémon hard. His method with her will be setting up an Aqua Ring and then trying to do a good chunk of damage before she gets to low enough health that he feels the need to Baton Pass her out. His hope is that she can at least Ice Beam the Exeggutor out of the equation before he needs to swap her; if not he'll pass into Mirkwood to finish things up.

Mirkwood is out against the Machamp. Ford is going to be relying on his arsenal of strong Flying-type moves and Mirkwood's immunity to Fighting to get through that fight; hopefully that will be enough, because he wants to keep Mirkwood in against the Rhydon as well. Mirkwood has a nice selection of Grass attacks lined up for that match.

Jellybean is out against the Gyarados. Ford forsees the second half of this battle being more difficult, so he's brought the asshole stallwall that took down Misty. Jellybean doesn't have anything that might one-hit Gyarados, but he does have his Sticky Barb that he can transfer over for some extra damage and a nice array of high-power moves, some of which hit for STAB. If Gyarados ever hecks him up too bad, he can Recover (he'll likely go for setting up a Future Sight and then healing on the turn that it hits, if he can afford to play that kind of game).

Into the home stretch. Jellybean is going to stay out against the Pidgeot for as long as he can handle, but in the event he needs to be swapped out Ford will bring out Kerouac. His method here is simple: Toxic, Venoshock. Simple, effective. He's going to keep that strategy up on through the Arcanine, and if things start to look dire an Explosion should finish things off in his favor.

MIPS and Mr. Fox are really only here for moral support, and in the event that something really very bad happens.

Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Dinah the Audino (lv 100), Poirot the Kricketune (lv 100), August the Delphox (lv 100), and Bettina the Crobat (lv 100).
Battle Details: Since this is Jane's first gym battle in Kanto, she decided to do a little research about Erika's team while she had some downtime during the Contest Spectacular, and found she had several Pokemon who had a decisive type advantage over the Grass type leader as well as a level advantage for her Regular Team. She'll lead with Bettina for Jumpluff for a Poison assault, then August for Tangrowth to really lay on special Fire attacks, since Tangrowth notably has high HP and Defense, but its Sp. Defense is quite lacking. Then, Poirot will face off against Bellosom with all of his Fury-Cutting Bug prowess. Dinah is there for backup and for any surprise turns Erika might throw at them.

Character: Thida | [personal profile] agent3
Badge/Gym Leader: Erika for the Rainbow Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Maika the Malamar (lv 100), Judd the Luxray (lv 100), Buru the Granbull (lv 100), Banba the Noivern (lv 100), Majo the Tsareena (lv 100), and Poko the Tepig (lv 46).
Battle Details: Thida is going mostly for overpowering Erika via level difference, though Banba as a Flying type has a very clear advantage over Erika's team and will likely take the brunt of the battling. However, Thida will let Poko try to square off against Jumpluff, mostly because of the similar levels and to give the little guy a taste of what battling for a gym badge is like; he has Flame Charge to help boost his speed and Flamethrower to spread the fire around, and Thida would have likely learned to use the Defense Curl + Rollout technique from battling Whitney, thus boosting an attack that would already have 2x damage to Jumpluff.

tl;dr: Poko the Tepig for Jumpluff, then tear a fucking tornado through Tangrowth and Bellosom with Banba the Noivern.

Battle Details: This time around, Anna intends to learn from her mistakes during her first challenge. She leads off with Ginger the Houndour, making liberal use of Flamethrower and Crunch to chew through Falkner's Noctowl. Sif the Bunnelby comes out next against Honchkrow, showing off her quick, agile moves and finishing him off with Superfang. Lastly, Anna brings out Cheeks the Pachirisu, who she's been training especially for this rematch. He's almost doubled in level since the first time, and she's confident that his Swift and Electro Ball can do the job against Pidgeot!

Reno (lv. 100)
Shuriken (lv. 100)
Flux (lv. 100)
Tseng (lv. 100)
Costa (lv. 100)

Battle Details:
Reno is going to lead the assault going all out against the Exeggutor, opening with a Quick Attack followed by Flame Charge, upping his speed stat before using a Fire Blast to finish it off.

When Machamp is brought out Reno will use Tail Whip before switching out on the next turn, swapping out with Tseng who will using the lowered defense of the Machamp to his advantage. He'll hit the other hard and fast with a Zen Headbutt, finishing it off completely with a Psychic blast. Once the Machamp is done in out Tseng will stay in to take on the Rhydon, utilizing his fighting type advantage this time for as long as he can hold out against the ground type Pokemon. He'll manage to get in a Close Combat before being taken down, swapping out with Shuriken.

The Furfrou will hit her opponent with Sand Attack twice over to take it's accuracy down before using Tail Whip to lower it's defense. Once this is done she'll hit it with Dig to take it out completely assuming enough damage had been done by Tseng previously.

Shuriken will switch out with Flux when the Gyarados comes out and will make quick work of the water snake will some fully charged Thunder attacks. He'll stay in to take on the Pidgeot as well, slamming it with a Thunderbolt assault this time as well as a few extra Quick Attacks for some added fun.

Last but not least is the Arcanine and for this final fight Costa will swap in. He'll use Howl to start and boost his attack before hitting the other canine with a Sand Attack and Iron Tail, hoping to lower it's Defense a bit. Once done with those, he'll assault it with Rock Smash and Strength to finish it off completely.

Team 2: Bugsy
Nocnitsa the Noctowl
Boruta the Swanna
Mila the Pyroar
Yakov the Typhlosion
Battle Details:
Following the particularly painful defeat at the Contest Yuri has decided to take up the Gym challenge in earnest instead of putting it aside. He's research the gyms, contacting fellow edgelord Walter for tips and thus his teams were born. He's entering with the Russian ideal of "crush your enemies but despite the high level of his Pokemon he's still taken a cautionary route of utilizing type advantages. He'll choose to send his lower level Pokemon out first and if for any reason they begin to waver he has higher level backups to dominate the field.

For Falkner, he leads with Zorya. If by chance this angry Pikachu filled with hate doesn't destroy the opposing team he will follow up with Mareep with Potya as a back-up for any disasters.

For Bugsy, he'll begin with Mila, choosing her fire abilities to potentially burn the place to the ground if need be. Any issues with her he would toss Boruta out next, as his flying type abilities would be effective. (And the water type to put out any flames before an arson charge is brought against him) Supplementary is Nocnitsa and Yakov should a disaster occur.

After he's got his own boosts in place he'll hit the fire type with a Whirlpool, trapping it in the vortex for four turns which will hopefully be more than enough to take it out.

When Magmortar comes out Squeak will immediately lead with a Water Pulse aiming to do damage and confuse his target hoping to avoid taking any damage on his opponents turn. Assuming he does he'll finish off the Magnortar with one more Water Pulse to end that match up.

For the final battle Squeak will be swapped with Mideel to face off against the Rapidash. He'll lead with Dive honestly just to mess with the Rapidash a bit before finishing it off with a Hydro Pump to end the match-up completely.

Character: Stanford Pines | [personal profile] meteorman
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog Badge | Morty
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Skadi, Fay, Destroying Angel, Roswell. All level 100.
Battle Details: Taking place on the 22nd, following a failed attempt on the 20th!

I am going to say that this is not Ford's first time facing Morty; he tends toward types that are weak to Morty's team and, as Morty would be his first Elite challenge, he would represent a fairly large jump in difficulty. So this is a rematch, given a couple of days to regroup and rework strategy. Because he likes a challenge, Ford will not be bringing a full team of six, and he won't be keeping any Pokémon in the back 'just in case'. No one is coming unless he plans to use them in some way.

Skadi is out first to face the Drifblim. Drifblim has fairly low defenses and a weakness to both of Skadi's types, so it's pretty clear Ford tailored his opener to Morty's to give himself a better chance of making it further. Ice beam is the clear way to go here, but Ford is going to take the time to set up a Light Screen first.

Morty's Spiritomb is next (and if you think this Spiritomb isn't part of the reason Ford gets really intense about getting his own, you're wrong). Spiritomb isn't weak to anything Skadi has, but Ford is going to keep her in anyway just long enough to refresh the Light Screen before swapping into Destroying Angel. She's got a nice Moonblast lined up for Spiritomb, and when the Dusknoir comes out she'll be staying in against it. The plan here is to put it to sleep with Sleep Powder and Dream Eater it to death in hopes of avoiding taking much damage (since it knows a host of moves that might hit her pretty hard), but if it won't go to sleep quickly enough she'll swap to a Strength Sap and Moonblast combo.

Against the Mismagius Ford will be sending in Fay, disguised as Roswell. The obvious move here for Morty will be to use a Ghost move, which will hit Fay for minimal damage and give her a turn to set up an Agility. Then it's time to use her host of Dark moves, which should take the Mismagius down easily.

Skadi is back out against the Gengar, and after setting up another Light Screen she's going to give the Gengar a very special Earthquake. The Chandelure will get the same treatment, and thanks to Skadi's typing its Fire attacks will only deal neutral damage against her (with many of them dampened by the Light Screen). If she somehow gets brought down before she can finish off the Chandelure, Fay is going to come back out and finish things off.

Roswell is in the back purely to trick Morty into trying to use Ghost moves on Fay, but she can also come out to actually battle if needed. She's at a disadvantage in this gym but she has Shadow Ball and Recover to get her through.

Battle Details:
Cissnei is going to take on her final gym of the Kanto region with a single Pokemon being her starter - Reno the Vulpix.

Against the Crobat he's going to come out the gate with Extrasensory to take advantage of the Psychic weakness the Crobat has before following up with Return, utilizing the bond he has with Cissnei to deal a fair amount of damage to his opponent. If that doesn't finish it off completely Cissnei will have him use Quick Attack to knock it out.

When the Ariados comes out it's going to be all fire from this point forward, Reno starting out with Flamethrower before finishing it with Fire Blast. The Venomoth is going to receive similar treatment, though it's downfall will come through a Flame Charge followed by a Fire Blast to end it all.

Grace

Battle Details: While Jinx's lineup for her battle with Clair was...unconventional, she had a reason for at least two of the three.

She started strong with Grace, knowing her whippy dragon type had Thunderwave which would help keep Clair's Gyarados from attacking as quickly or as powerfully as it normally did. Unfortunately the technique didn't work as well as Jinx would have hoped. While the attack was super effective, Clair's Gyarados showed amazing resolve in struggling it's way through the match, using it's superior size and fury to knock back Grace again and again as she tried to chip away at his health. Though the battle was longer then planned though Grace came out victorious with an impressive hyper beam!

Unfortunately the first battle had taken it's toll on Grace and Jinx wasn't keen on sending her in for a round against Clair's Kingdra. Much to Jinx's surprise though as she reached for Noir's pokeball...Ms. Direction popped out instead! Miss Direction had overheard Jinx talking about trying to ditch some "Loser pokemon" before going to Kanto and she became worried that the Trainer was going to somehow abandon her! And after all the good work Miss Direction had done in shaming her about her criminal ways!! Determined to prove herself, Miss Direction wobbled her way into battle and...predictably her abilities at deflecting attacks proved useful int heir own way.

Unfortunately Clair is an experienced Gym Leader who knows all about the particular skill sets of Wobuffets and with that experience she was able to dispatch Miss Direction with only some damage to her Kingdra. Jinx Leaving Jinx the choices of her final pokemon or switching back to the already injured Grace, she brought out her ringer for the match, Zest the Spritzee.

Zest was as ruthless as ever, coating almost the entire arena in her sweet scent, so much so that the scent might linger long after she leaves! Moonblast after moonblast sent Kingdra crashing across the field and even Clair's dragonite looked intimidated to see someone so small and pink with so much lust for battle.

The Dragonite gave Zest a run for her money however once again relying on Clair's battle experience and tactical superiority to dance circles around Spirtzee's brute strength techniques. In the end it came down to one massive blast from both sides uniting in the middle creating a shockwave that knocked Jinx off her feet.

But as the dust settled, the tiny pink champion rose over the fallen dragon and Jinx claimed her eighth badge!

As this is Cissnei's last gym for Kanto, is it alright if I say she opts for a Banettite as the mega stone she receives?
