Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Penny Polendina | [personal profile] in4apounding
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog Badge - Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Aegislash, "Junior" - lvl 60
Aegislash, "Teale" - lvl 86
Blissey, "Taffy" - lvl 66
Vaporeon, "Precious" - lvl 91
Metagross, "Iris" - lvl 100
Galvantula, "Amber" - lvl 100

Battle Details:
The default strategy here is Aegislash setting up with Autotomize and Swords Dance before spamming Night Slash or Shadow Sneak. The weaker of the two against Morty's Haunter and Misdreavus, swapping out for the stronger of the two against his Gengar.

Blissey is there as an emergency Normal/high-SpDef wall in case things go badly, and can attack with Flamethrower if necessary. Vaporeon, Metagross, and Galvantula are essentially present as last-ditch backup in case Penny just needs to steamroll everything with an over-leveled Pokemon.

Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge/Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: My Roster! MTT will be relying on, in order: Superstar, Silky, and Blooky.
Battle Details: (This should be a bit backdated, because before the festival event, MTT and his travelmates were around Azalea)

The star of the show is Mettaton's Pidgeotto, Superstar, who will most likely wreck with the type advantage she has, despite not being on fully equal level grounds. Superstar supports herself with Roost and shells out Gusts and Quick Attacks until she ultimately faints.

From there, Silky will probably take the rest of the battle, and if he doesn't, then Blooky will tank and whittle down the HP of whatever Pokemon withstood Superstar's assault.

Someone came type-prepared this time. ;)

Badge/Gym Leader: Mineralbadge - Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
lvl 33 Magneton, Quicksilver Screwball
lvl 65 Aegislash, Penny Jr.
lvl 88 Klefki, Bianca
lvl 91 Aegislash, Teale
lvl 100 Metagross, Iris
lvl 100 Aggron, Chroma
Full roster here.

Battle Details:
Against Skarmory, Penny's going to start off with her Klefki - opening up with Imprison to block Skarmory from using their shared status moves, then layering on Metal Sound and Spikes, alternating between them until they've been used three times each, if possible. At this point she’ll use Heal Block before switching out for her Magneton; it's underleveled, but Penny is counting on Skarmory being able to deal neutral damage at best. Magneton will use Thunder Wave, Electric Terrain if possible (if Skarmory’s initial attack was either a non-damaging move or didn't do much damage), and then spam Thunder Shock until either Skarmory faints or Magneton is too hurt to continue safely battling.

Jasmine’s Magneton and Steelix will be met with Penny’s two Aegislash, using Rock Smash and Sacred Sword. The lack of Pokémon following Steelix will be met with mild surprise and disappointment.

Metagross and Aggron will be held in reserve in case any of the above tactics go badly, and will use any super-effective moves available if called in.

Character: Penny Polendina | [personal profile] in4apounding
Badge/Gym Leader: Stormbadge - Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
lvl 54 Gyarados, Sapphire
lvl 65 Gligar, Lavender
lvl 79 Charizard, Rory
lvl 91 Aegislash, Teale
lvl 100 Florges, Ruby
lvl 100 Galvantula, Amber
Full roster here.

Battle Details:
Gyarados will get sent out first against Hitmonlee, setting up a couple Dragon Dances and then using Ice Fang, Aqua Tail, or Strength. Hitmonchan will be met with Gligar, who’ll use Sand Attack at least once before using Sky Uppercut and Acrobatics, using U-Turn to retreat and send out Charizard if necessary. Penny will at least attempt to use Charizard against Poliwrath, hoping for superior speed and high damage from Air Slash. Failing that, Penny will send out Aegislash and use Aerial Ace.
Galvantula and Florges are emergency fallbacks.

Battle Details: Weepinbell and Xatu are on 'confuse/sleep/paralyze/poison the enemy/weaken the enemy stats' duty, using Pachirisu to finish them off. When it comes to the 'big enemy', Pidgeot, he'll use Doublade mostly for pride. Diggersby is the back-up in case any of the others faint unexpectedly.

Badge/Gym Leader: Misty for the Cascade Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Alder, Vulcan, Celeste, Beryl, Helios
Battle Details: Alphonse is leading with Alder as the obvious choice, going for a defensive strategy against Golduck and Starmie to blast his way through them. Lapras might give him a bit of trouble with those ice-type attacks, though, so he has Vulcan along to break that wall. The rest are mostly here as backup, with Helios as the clear last resort, though Al doubts it will come to THAT.

Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner for the Zephyr Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Roster! Main player in this battle is Little Foot, with Blue for backup
Battle Details: John's charging in with a Rock/Ice Pokemon that's a good 20 levels above its competition and has STAB Ice Beam. John would have to work at losing with that combination, and he wants to win. (He also has nothing with just spamming Ice Beam until the battle is over - or switching to spamming Avalanche if that runs out of PP.) Even if through sheer bad luck Little Foot goes down, Blue is a good 25 levels above Falkner's strongest, and she's armed with some powerful dragon and flying moves.

Featuring Regal, Marco, Pamela, Riley, Max, and Rachel.
Battle Details: Regal is up against the Skarmory, spamming Heat Wave against the Skarmory. Marco takes on the Magneton, using fighting moves - with Rachel as backup if he goes down. Pamela is in for pure water power against the Steelix, with Riley and Max as backup. Rachel's also on general cleanup crew, taking down anything that the others weaken but can't take out.

He'll start out with Melissa to lay down a Stealth Rock and land some hits with Thunderbolt and stat changing moves, then after that play to type advantages with his electric and grass types. If necessary, he'll bring in Samus against Lapras with fighting type moves, and Lilith against Starmie with dark type moves.

Character: Heather Mason | [personal profile] foolishwren
Badge/Gym Leader: Misty / Cascadebadge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Here!
Battle Details: HEATHER WILL BE BRINGING: Tricia (Manectric), Hazel (Pikachu), Sunny (Togekiss), Alessa (Absol), Godzilla (Feraligatr), and Arty (Furret)! All except for Hazel are level 100 (Hazel is level 93).

The obvious choice in a Water-type gym is to bring your best Electrics, so Tricia and Hazel are the main forerunners of the team. With both strong lightning attacks as well as Signal Beam, Heather figures that they can handle most of Misty's team on their own, even that pesky Starmie.

It's the Quagsire and the Lanturn that will really be the problem, given that her only major counters to Water are Electric Pokemon (after six whole years, no Grass-types?! Really, Heather?!). Fortunately, for the Quagsire, she's bringing Sunny, whose Sunny Day + Solar Beam combo worked like a charm against Brock. Gotta love those 4x type weaknesses. As for the Lanturn, since she doesn't have anything in particular with a type advantage, she's hoping that either Tricia or Hazel can win by virtue of their other, non-Electric attacks, but if that fails, she has Alessa.

Zilla and Arty round out the team as failsafes-- Godzilla's got Fighting-type moves for the Lapras and his Crunch will serve well against Starmie if the others get knocked out too early. Meanwhile, Arty's got Thunder, U-Turn, and a few other tricks up her sleeve if worst comes to worst.

Battle Details: This is his first gym, so Dirk took it super seriously and probably went a little overboard with the prep. His strategy counts on CHARON taking the helm and relying on her ice moves to do a lot of damage. He'll aim to see how far he can get with just her but she doesn't have the same level advantage or speed as his others. PENTHOS would come out after her to disable. Everyone else is back-up.

Ryner is taking October to travel Kanto and get the rest of the badges, because Rose has decided it's finally time. So you'll be hearing a lot from me this month ^^;

Character: Ryner Lute | [personal profile] tearsofademon
Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina/Saffron City/Marsh Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: I need to make a new VR page, but his Route page is pretty much accurate for these purposes.
Battle Details: This gym battle will be taking place today (October 5), and the party he's bringing is Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Jiji the Umbreon, Senna the Volcarona, and Fyn the Gyarados. Ryner doesn't want to have to repeat things, and he figures that the Elite team can handle it, so he hasn't put a rule in place about super effective moves this go-round.

Jiji and Jehra will start the fight out, mostly using their Dark typing to get around the Psychic STAB moves and their Dark-type moves to deal heavy damage. Senna and Glen are also on standby to provide super-effective Bug-type moves, as well as Fire-type moves on Senna's part for Jynx in particular. Fyn has Crunch and a high Attack stat, while Rose... is Rose, and is going to be part of this gym battle because she's Rose. Her main contribution is dual-screens, but if it comes down to her, she's got plenty of elemental attacks and is not afraid to use them.

Badge/Gym Leader: Misty/Cerulean City/Cascade Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: Same link as above
Battle Details: This battle will be taking place on October 8, and Ryner's party consists of Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Ellie the Sawsbuck, Fluffy the Cottonee, and Fyn the Gyarados.

Rose will start this fight off, using dual screens for defenses and Thunderbolt (or Magical Leaf, against Quagsire) for super-effective hits. Glen is there for electric attacks, and Ellie and Fluffy are there for grass attacks, though they won't be sent out against Lapras unless needed. Fyn will rely on her high Attack stat (again) and her non-water moves, unless Rain Dance ends up active in which case Thunder is a useful thing. If Jehra ends up in the fight, he'll mostly use his Dark-type moves, maybe Thunder if Rain Dance is active.
