Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Annie Leonhart | [personal profile] lyingheart
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Lute | Absol, Lv. 37 + Arlert | Hoothoot, Lv. 37.
Battle Details: As of the timing of this gym challenge, both pokemon will be at Level 37. Their current moveset should reflect that level! Which... is on Monday, woo. Here goes something?

Annie and her team are walking in with no type advantages or disadvantages outside of Lute's immunity to psychic attacks, rendering Noctowl's psychic component null. Otherwise Annie has Lute holding a Persim berry, Arlert holding the Twistedspoon for the 10% psychic boost (this is the one good thing out of being dragged back to the start of Route 29 and meeting Not So Dead Marco), and she has additional berries (Persim, Oran), and a few lower-level potions on hand. This is all a pointed exercise seeing how these gym battles go, and for both Lute and Arlert's experience. It's also to see the end results of close matched neutral gym battles, where by and large there isn't a great number of immunities or weaknesses on either team. Win or lose, she's gathering information and testing her team out.

Lute will start out against the Noctowl, primarily because of the immunity to psychic attacks, and will be using Swords Dance and following up with Night Slash. Most of the focus here is heightening attack damage and coming in with the STAB for Night Slash, which ideally cuts through Noctowl fast.

It's the general idea for the Honchkrow as well (albeit with Slash following Swords Dance rather than the dark move Night Slash), though depending on if confusion ends up being inflicted and Lute needs to consume his held Persim berry or not, things may go faster or slower. If hit with Swagger without managing to injure himself to the point of passing out, then having his confusion cured, the additional attack stat raise will also augment his Slash. While Honchkrow takes reduced damage from dark type moves, Lute's normal moves with the augmented attack for Slash make regular damage, and Lute is likewise taking reduced damage from most of Honchkrow's attacks (being dark or ghost type).

When it comes to Pidgeot, Lute will use Taunt to try and buy time before Pidgeot can use a status attack, then switch out with Arlert, so she can take the lead for the sake of battle experience. This is largely in an effort to use Hypnosis (and Reflect second turn should Hypnosis fail, though at least she's got the boost from Twistedspoon) to put Pidgeot to sleep, while using her Persim berry or being berry-healed by Annie should she end up confused by a later status attack. If needed, Roost can come into play to help Arlert regain HP in the process of attempting to put Pidgeot to sleep via Hypnosis. If/when Pidgeot succumbs to sleep, Lute will be switched back in for Swords Dance to up his attack and then to use Night Slash, followed by Quick Attack should Pidgeot have any remaining HP. If Pidgeot wakes up, Lute will use Taunt to prevent Pidgeot from immediately using a status effect, and should scrape by surviving even if heavily hit by Pidgeot that turn to finish off with any physical or special move at the start of the next. Like Psycho Cut. Why not? Let's do something off type for the heck of it.

But the real question is... does it work?

Badge/Gym Leader: Boulder Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Polar (lv. 34)
Mr. A (lv. 32)

Battle Details:
Shoto is going to head into this battle with several potions and a revive on hand since he's well aware that he's pushing his luck attempting this gym without a solid upper hand.

Mr. A the Poochyena is going to start off the battle, hitting the Rhyhorn with Sand Attack twice over, throwing off the other Pokemon's aim before Shoto will have the canine use Taunt to rile it up, locking the Rhyhorn into one move. From there he'll switch Mr. A out for Polar who is going to lead with an Icy Wind attack to not only inflict some damage but also lower the Rhyhorn's speed. From there the Vulpix is going to use Aurora Beam which will hopefully finish the opponent off.

When Golem comes out, Shoto is going to switch Polar out for Mr. A and use a potion to restore all of his HP first and foremost. From there it'll be a repeat performance of what he did against the Rhyhorn, hitting the other with a double Sand Attack to throw off it's accuracy though this time instead of Taunt he's going to use Swagger to confuse Golem--while taking the risk of upping it's attack stat. As soon as this is complete Shoto is going to swap Mr. A out for Polar just like before and have his Vulpix start off with Aurora Beam this time. He's going to have Polar follow this up with Ice Shard x2 to finish off the Golem, hopefully avoiding any real damage thanks to the Sand Attacks and Swagger.

Which leads to the Onix.

Once more Mr. A is going to start the match, getting healed via Potion the first turn before launching into attacks the second--this time he's going to lead with Embargo to keep Brock from using any items for the next five turns and to keep the Onix from using any sort of held item. From there he'll use Sand Attack and, if he can, he'll use it a second time to throw off the Onix's accuracy even more. Given his much lower level, Mr. A is probably going to go down after this which will bring out Polar for the final leg. Shoto is going to immediately use a potion the first chance he gets before having Polar strike with Icy Wind first followed by an Aurora Beam. If that doesn't end it, he'll heal Polar once more with a potion just to be safe (and if necessary) before having Polar use Aurora Beam one more time to end the match.

Team: Crockett (LV. 50), Buntz (LV. 36), Hoffs (LV. 31)

Battle Details: Connor is bringing electric pokemon to this battle! He'll send out Buntz first, who will hopefully be strong enough to knock out the Noctowl and, if he's lucky, the Honchkrow with Thundershock. Though first, he'll use Double Team to make it harder for the other pokemon to hit. If Buntz happens to be knocked out he has Hoffs as backup, who will use Electroweb to both damage and slow down her opponent.

He'll send out Crockett when the Pidgeot comes out, using Supersonic to confuse the opposing pokemon first before using the opportunity to go all out with electric attacks.

He's brought a Potion for this battle, but no other items.

Team:
Grendo (lv. 50)
Chef Chenille (lv. 47)
Cayenne (lv. 36)
Ruby Riot (lv. 31)

Battle Details:
Mabel's plan for this gym is an all out assault. She wants to rush 'em and get it over with because she's got the heavy hitters for this sort of thing!

Cayenne and Ruby Riot, despite their lower levels, have the Fire type advantage and are going to be taking on the Jumpluff and Tangrowth respectively. The Growlithe is going to be using Fire Fang and Flamethrower to try and put her opponent down while Ruby is going to be using a combination of Flame Charge and Flare Blitz, one to boost the other and her speed! Should either of them faint or just need help, Chef Chenille will be swapped in to take over, the Leavanny prepared to X-Scissor his way to final victory in honor of his fallen comrades!

For the final round, Mabel was specifically saving her best for last and Grendo will come out to make quick work of the Bellossom. Grendo will use Megahorn and Aerial Ace to take out it's opponent quickly though, if need be, the Heracross will use Pin Missile for one final blow!

Win or lose, Mabel is going to make sure to gift Erika a sweater just like she did the other gym leaders! Enjoy your rainbow colored swearer with a dancing sunflower on it, Erika!!

Badge/Gym Leader: Soul Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Snowcone (lv. 55)
Diamond (lv. 55)
Hambone (lv. 57)

Battle Details:
So for the Crobat, Mabel is going to start off with Snowcone the Alolan Vulpix who may look like a prissy little show fox but she is ready to rumble, pal!! She's going to use Charm twice, because it's her favorite, lowering her opponents attack stat and honestly she just really likes to see other Pokemon get hearts in their eyes over her!~ After that, Mabel is going to have Snowcone use Ice Beam then Blizzard, utilizing Crobat's weakness to ice against it. If that doesn't take it down Snowcone will use a gloriously beautiful Aurora Beam to end her battle with in a memorable manner!

Next up is Diamond, yet another Primma Donna--sorry, the Primma Donna--who is going to be taking on the Ariados. Honestly this can be summed up as "Rocks fall everything dies" because Diamond does NOT like bugs. They creep her out. So the Onix is going to start off by using Rock Polish because one has to look good when taking out creepy crawlers plus it's going to make her faster!! This is going to be followed with Rock Smash and Rock Tomb, Diamond wasting no time in burying her opponent under a landslide.

And finally it'll be Hambone's turn to shine against the Venomoth! Using his opponent's psychic weakness against it, Hambone and Mabel are going to go full assault mode as the Moewstic uses Psybeam first in an attempt to confuse Venomoth before following it up with Psychock to do some harsh physical damage and finally Psychic to put it down completely.

Continuing her tradition, Janine will get a sweater as well! Her's is purple with a very happy looking spider on it with the words "FREE HUGS" above it!

Floof (lv. 80)

Battle Details:
Giving Bean a well deserved break, Noct is going to break out the real heavy hitter of his team for this gym: Floof the Bibarel.

Against the Crobat, Noct is going to have Floof start off with a good old fashioned Defense Curl just to be on the safe side since the Crobat is probably a bit faster than Floof, before launching into a full blown assault against the other Pokemon. He's going to hit the other with Rock Smash first before following it up with Charge Beam to knock the other out of the sky. (Take that you flying foe!!)

For the Ariados they aren't going to waste any time at all before frankly, Noct can't stand bugs and giant spiders are kind of the worst (next to giant bees) so he's going to have Floof go all out with Return first, which is going to be amped up due to the Bibarel's affection towards the prince, followed by a good old fashioned Hyper Beam.

Sorry Ariados...

Last but not least Floof will face off against the Venomoth (MORE BUGS WHY) and it's..really just going to be a repeat of the match before it, the prince having Floof go hard. He's going to have him hit first with Rock Smash then end it with Return to wipe the bug out, leaving no wiggle room for that gross flying demon of a bug to get away!! (Wait this isn't Eos...)

Character: Annie Leonhart | [personal profile] lyingheart
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge/Bugsy
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Team: Lute | Lvl. 45, Arlert | Lvl. 45 at time of battle (Oct. 22nd)
Battle Details: This gym is going to be headlined by Arlert for her flying type attacks, with Lute as a one or two hit back-up. Libera is here to observe. Annie will be bringing in healing/HP recovery potions and drinks along with berries and one revive. Arlert will not be holding her Twistedspoon for this gym; she will instead be holding a sitrus berry.

Arlert will be facing the Pinsir first, who is weak to flying, and who has many fighting moves to which Arlert isn't weak to, but also doesn't have resistance or immunity. Annie is going to forgo use of Reflect given Pinsir's access to Brick Break, which will end Reflect as well as do physical damage to Arlert, gaining no great advantage overall. That first turn she'll be asked to use Air Slash instead, which should strike with super-effective force, also backed by STAB being a flying type move, and Arlert being a Flying/Normal type pokemon. This should reduce the Pinsir's health by at least half, probably more. While Arlert will take damage from any returned attack, it won't be at an increased rate, as none of her type weaknesses are ones Pinsir has in its learnset.

It's possible Pinsir may use Focus Energy or Harden as a first move, or even a second, but with Arlert hitting with STAB and type weakness, Harden will not likely prevent Arlert from taking out the Pinsir in three attacks or less. That is to say, if Pinsir is instructed to act defensively, using Harden to build its defense, Arlert's attacks will still have it in danger of passing out within three attacks. Likewise with Focus Energy, while it will increase Pinsir's critical hit rate, even a critical hit with its present moveset should not wipe Arlert in one hit faster than she'll take Pinsir out of the picture.

It's not going to be varied for Arlert in this first fight; she'll be asked to use Air Slash the two, three times it'll take to incapacitate Pinsir.

Heracross is next on the field, with a four time weakness to flying attacks, along with a weakness to psychic attacks, both of which Arlert's capable of dishing out. She'll need healing at this point, so Annie's first move will be getting her patched up, giving Heracross a first move to then use against Arlert.

Heracross again has no type attacks that Arlert is weak to, but given its weakness to flying, its first move is likely to be Endure. This leaves the first round as a no-physical attack round, only to be followed by Arlert once more employing her Air Slash against Heracross, taking a significant amount of its health down with the first hit, being both a major weakness and a STAB attack for Arlert. However, Annie and Arlert will have to watch out for Megahorn being used in return, as that hits hard enough Annie may need to juggle using healing items on Arlert between attacks. However, the effectiveness of her Air Slash against Heracross will lead to a three hit KO (if Endure has been used, two hit KO if not), once she can get that second hit in. As with Pinsir, due to Brick Break being part of the Heracross skill-set, Annie will not have Arlert use Reflect, as it leaves her open to still being hit with a significant enough HP drain it doesn't make up for it.

Unlike with the first two battles, Lute will be taking the lead while Arlert gets a potentially very short break. Because Scizor doesn't yet have X-Scissor (a level 41 learn move), their strongest bug attack is Fury Cutter. Lute can survive more than one hit from that attack even with a weakness to it; Focus Energy could bring up the punch to that attack, but Lute will have two turns of moving before Focus Energy becomes applicable. If Scizor is instructed to use Iron Defense, it still gives Lute two turns to move. With this in mind, Annie will ask Lute to use Swords Dance for his first move, followed by Sucker Punch (with its +1 priority to go first) to knock Scizor out of the battle. If for some reason this doesn't manage to wipe Scizor with the x2 attack applied to Lute's STAB damage with Sucker Punch (dark type is of normal levels of damage for Scizor, with no advantages or disadvantages), and Scizor manages to take Lute out with a second attack, then it's up to Arlert to end the battle instead.

In this case, Annie will ask her to use Reflect her first turn unlike with the earlier battles, as Scizor is less likely to have Brick Break (though it is of course possible depending on if Bugsy used the TM/HM on Scizor sometime in the past). Scizor should be very, very low on health from Lute's attacks, and taking normal amounts of damage form Arlert's flying type attacks. She'll have to stick with those for STAB and also because her psychic and normal attacks do reduced damage to Scizor. That said, after casting Reflect, her next move will be Air Slash, which should decisively take Scizor off the playing field.

One other delay should Arlert be brought back on the field may be Annie's need to bring her up to full health. If that's the case, Annie won't ask for her to use Reflect; she'll use an item from her back (amoung those she brought), trust Arlert to weather whichever attack she's hit with, then finish Scizor off with Air Slash without the benefit of Reflect helping dampen physical damage to Arlert.

... So does that work in the end, while Libera the level 22 Skiddo is watching all of this chewing on a Rage Candybar. Also holy spoons this got long. I. Really worry about these things alsdkfj

Quay (lv. 47)
Nyx (lv. 40)

Battle Details:
Despite Leviathan wanting to decimate this gym, Noct opted to let the tag-team duo of Quay and Nyx take a shot at it.

Quay will take the lead, facing off against the Magcargo to start. She's going to start off with Baby-doll Eyes, just to lull her opponent into a happy daze before launching her assault with Surf. If necessary, she'll follow this up with a fabulous Bubble Beam to finish her opponent off.

She'll swap out with Nyx for the next battle, letting the Frogadier take on the Magmortar. Unlike his teammate, Nyx isn't going to waste anytime playing with his opponent and is going to get right to business, using a combination of Water Pulse and Waterfall to knock the fire type out.

For the last battle, Nyx is going to stay in to start, launching an assault with Water Pulse at the Rapidash before being swapped out to allow Quay the chance to finish the other Pokemon off. Utilizing her Hidden Ability, the Popplio is going to use Echoed Voice--which is now a water-type move--and blast the Rapidash with a double assault of a haunting, watery attack in honor of her brother and his favorite style of music!

Character: Shoto Todoroki | [personal profile] rimeblaze
Badge/Gym Leader: Cascade Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
Current (lv. 44)
Denki (lv. 36)
Deku (lv. 35)

Battle Details:
Shoto is going to start out with Denki, giving the Pikachu a chance to put all of his training to the test. He's going to have the mouse Pokemon start out easy with a Double Team to boost his evasion before attacking with Quick Attack on his next turn. In the groove now, Shoto is going to take a chance and have Denki use an electric based attack against the Golduck, calling out Spark--

but the over-excited Pikachu is going to ignore that and use Volt Tackle instead.

It'll definitely be enough to take the Golduck out but Denki is also going to be knocked out, the Pikachu over-charging himself in his excitement and passing out. (They had been working on this, they really had.)

So round two will go to Deku even if he had just been there to watch. The little Bulbasaur will go toe to toe with the Lapras, weaker than his opponent by a couple levels but he has a type advantage over the other. Shoto is going to have him use Petal Dance first then follow it up with Razor Leaf, going full force with attacks rather than trying to weaken any stats or boost any of his own. If necessary, Shoto will have Deku use Vine Whip to finish the Lapras off to claim the victory.

For the final match Current will take the stage, the Emolga embarrassed by her proteges performance earlier and ready to show what Team Electric is really about! Without any words from Shoto, Current will use Double Team right out of the gate to allow her the possibility of evading her opponents first attack. On her next move, again without Shoto saying anything, she'll use Thunder Shock to hit the Starmie hard and fast and finally end it all on the next turn with Electro Ball.

Character: Connor | [personal profile] plasticasshole

Badge/Gym Leader: Azalea/Hive Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Crockett (LV. 65), Buntz (LV. 52), Rocky (LV. 32)

Battle Details: Connor will start the battle off with Rocky, who will use his super effective rock moves against Pinsir. He might run into some trouble with Heracross and its fighting moves, so Connor will switch out to Buntz (and Crockett after that, if Buntz should faint). Here he's relying on the fact that his pokemon are a pretty high level, with some powerful moves, and that Crockett is resistant to bug-type attacks.

Badge/Gym Leader: Goldenrod/Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Crockett (LV. 65), Buntz (LV. 52)

Battle Details: Here Connor is fairly confident, because Crockett is resistant to normal, psychic and fairy types. Buntz will lead however, with Crockett being sent out against Miltank regardless of how well Buntz does. It will use Magnet Rise to deal with any potential ground-type attacks, protecting itself from its main weakness, and finish the Miltank off with powerful electric and steel attacks.

Battle Details: THERE'S NO STRATEGY HERE. Bertolt is going to use his Aggron to steamroll everything he can, purely because this lad is on A Schedule and he has also heard rumors about one of Whitney's Pokemon being an Absolute Unit Nightmare to deal with.

He may or may not be starting to warm up for his eventual rematch against Claire coming next month

BUT AS AN APOLOGY.... He's bringing goods from FCAB!

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Pryce / Mahogany Town / Glacier badge
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: Magellan (lvl 100); Circinus (lvl 100); Nemesis (lvl 100); Holly (lvl 100); Aurora (lvl100); Gus (lvl 100);
Battle Details:

Armin is going to start his first ever Elite gym challenge off strong, bringing out Magellan the Incineroar against Pryce’s Obamasnow Abomasnow. Magellan is a dual fire/dark type, while Abomasnow is grass/ice. This means that Abomasnow has a 4x weakness to fire, while Magellan resists both ice and grass attacks.

The strategy for this first match can be lovingly referred to as ‘burn the motherfucker down’, with Armin commanding Magellan to focus on using all his strongest fire attacks, starting with Fire Fang (for that added chance of both burning and flinching), Fire Punch and Flamethrower.

When Abomasnow goes down and Pryce brings out his Dewgong, Armin will switch out Magellan for Circinus the Voltorb. Dewgong, being water/ice, is weak to electric, and while he has no particular resistances against either water or ice, Circinus also doesn’t have any weaknesses.

Armin is going to start off this match by having Circinus use Discharge (30% of paralysing a target) until Dewgong is, well, paralysed. Once paralysed, he’ll switch to using his hard-hitting Thunder attack until Dewgong goes down. Armin will also be standing by with a healing potion, should it look like Circinus’ health is going dangerously in the red. That and something to unthaw him, should Dewgong be able to freeze him.

When Dewgong goes down and Pryce brings out his Glalie, Armin will pull Circinus out and bring Magellan back into the fight. Depending on how injured Magellan is, he’ll spend his first turn topping his HP back up.

Again, as with Abomasnow, Magellan is a fire/dark type, and has a resistance against ice. Glalie is a pure ice type, with a weakness to fire. For this match as well, Armin’s strategy will be to hit hard and hit firey. Again, he’ll command Magellan to employ his strongest fire attacks, going back to using Fire Fang, Fire Punch and Flamethrower.

When Glalie goes down, this time Armin will allow Magellan to stay out to take on Froslass. As a dual ice/ghost type, Froslass is weak to both fire and dark type attack. And as a dark/fire type Pokemon Magellan has several of those and a resistance to ice and ghost.

First matter of business will again be to top up Magellan’s health after taking on Glalie. At this point, Armin will be keeping a very careful eye on his firecat. After all, it is his third match. He’s going to be getting tired. For Froslass, the strategy will be largely the same, with the addition of Magellan also using his strongest dark type attacks.

If Magellan manages to beat Froslass, all will be well and Armin will withdraw him for a well-deserved rest. Should it look like Magellan is flagging too much or gets beaten, Armin will bring out Nemesis the Sharpedo instead.

Nemesis, being a water/dark type, shares Magellan’s resistances to ghost and ice attacks. She also, beautiful fish that she is, comes equipped with Sharpedonite, so insert transformation music and behold MEGA SHARPEDO.

Mega Sharpedo’s ability is Strong Jaw which powers up any biting moves by 50%. This means both her Bite and Crunch attacks will be 50% stronger, which will be exactly what she will be using on Froslass.

Once Froslass goes down, and Pryce brings out his Mamoswine, Armin will either withdraw Magellan (if he managed to last his three lvl 100 matches) and bring out Nemesis; or if he already switched Magellan for Nemesis on his last match, he’ll leave Nemesis in the ring.

Mamoswine is a dual Ice/Ground type. It is weak to water attacks. Nemesis is a dual Water/Dark attack. She is resistant to ice attacks.

For this battle, Nemesis is going to focus on using her Aqua Jet move. This move has a priority of +1, so it goes before all other moves. The idea will be to basically smash Mamoswine with water until it stops getting up. In addition to her Aqua Jet move, Nemesis can also use the move Surf and Dive just in case what this battle needs is more water. All until Mamoswine goes down.

Finally, time for the last of Pryce’s Pokemon - Walrein.

To take down Walrein, Armin will bringing in a fresh Pokemon, namely his Vileplume Holly.

Holly is a grass/poison type, and while she does have a weakness to ice, at the same time Walrein (ice/water) also has a weakness to grass. Rather than previous matches where Armin focused on hard-hitting moves, this one will be more of a battle of attrition.

Holly’s ability is Effect Spore, which means that each time she comes into contact with her opponent, she has a 30% chance of causing either a poison/sleep/paralyzed status in her opponent. Should Walrein focus on attacks that don’t involve direct contact, Armin will be having Holly use Sleep Powder; should Walrein focus on attacks that involve direct contact, Armin will wait for Holly’s ability to kick in. Meanwhile, on Holly’s end, Armin is going to have her focus on her HP draining and gaining attacks in order to outlast Walrein. He’ll start with Giga drain, then should he run out of PP Mega drain, then Absorb, then Moonlight. Slow and steady can also win the race.

In addition to these four planned pokemon, Armin will also be bringing Aurora the Dragonair and Gus the Shiinotic with him as back-up, in case one of his strategies goes wrong. Both these pokemon have weaknesses to ice though, which is why he is hoping he won’t have to use them. Both also have a few moves that Pryce’s pokemon are weak too, namely grass moves for Gus and fire/electric moves for Aurora.

Character: Doreen Green | [personal profile] partiallysquirrelblood
Badge/Gym Leader: Boulder Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Jennifer Walnuts (Lv. 36), Lorax (Lv. 36), Gruff Mongo (Lv. 40)
Battle Details: As Doreen has played the games, she knows Brock primarily trains Rock/Ground types, even if she doesn't know the specifics of his roster. As such, Jennifer is starting things off, due to her heavy type advantage. She'll probably have an easy time with Rhyhorn, and try to take on Golem as well.

In the event Golem manages to take Jennifer out, Lorax will pock up where she left off. He has a solid advantage against Rock/Ground types as well, although lacks Jennifers defense against Rock. He'll also be taking on Onix, whether or not Jennifer won the previous battle.

Finally, Mongo is there as insurance, just in case things go wrong for Jennifer and Lorax. He doesn't have a type advantage besides knowing Brick Break, but he does have a larger level advantage.
