Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Nyx the Greninja (lv. 64)
Quay the Primarina (lv. 68)

Battle Details:
REMATCH!

Their loss the first time around spurred Nyx and Quay to work their butts off in training over the course of the past month on the island (and during their attempt to help an injured Lapras) so they're back and ready to kick some butt!!

Quay is going to lead just like last time but instead of playing cute and innocent she's not holding back. She's going to start off with Hyper Voice, blasting the Magcargo with some righteous hard rock screams that just so happen to be water powered now since Liquid Voice turns all sound based moves into water type! She'll follow this up with a hard hitting right on some waves with Surf, showing that she can be a real sea witch as she unleashes her fury on her opponent to take them out.

The pair will switch out here, Nyx taking point against the Magmortar again and starting off with Water Shuriken this time. Whether it hits two or five times, it won't matter because that's just the warm up as Nyx follows that up with a quick Water Pulse to hopefully damage and confuse the other Pokemon then another Water Shuriken. To round it all out the Greninja will end it all with Dive, giving the Magmortar at least a chance to feel that things may be okay before sneak attacking from below to take it out.

When the Rapidash comes out Nyx will swap out this time, allowing Quay to take the lead for this final battle. The Primarina is going to use Echoed Voice just like the first time they tried this gym, the haunting melody powered as a water attack thanks to her hidden ability. She'll use it again, the move growing stronger the second time around before she'll launch into her final assault with Sparkling Aria, shattering eardrums and dousing the Rapidash to put a real damper on the other's day. Sorry friend.

Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Viola (46), Teddy (46), Sushi (41)
Battle Details: Marco walked all the way here to fight you Falkner >:|

Viola and Marco are already strongly bonded; she's protected him when he's travelled, so she works hard when they're in battle. Marco has a couple revives on hand for specifically her - she's got Ice Beam and Blizzard on hand, which he knows from talking to Armin is Falker's weakness.

Teddy is also a favorite of Marco's, especially since he has Sucker Punch, and Slam at his disposal. He'll be the one he pulls out for use against Honchkrow, giving him time to heal up Viola.

Sushi is there for backup if Teddy fails. Their relationship is a bit more give and take - she likes him but she still resents his bathing attempt. However, she's a scrappy fighter and she loves to hunt. With Screech, Slash, Assurance and Feint at her disposal, she'll make a great backup in case Teddy falls or Viola falls twice.

Marco is, however, banking on Viola's type advantage, and she's always ready to use some Payback or Extrasensory.

Character: Bertolt Hoover | [personal profile] bertall
Badge/Gym Leader: Blackthorn
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Reiner the Aggron, Galliard the Tyrantrum, Annie the Glaceon, Doodle the Trapinch, and Marcel the Arcanine
Battle Details: IT'S TIME FOR A REMATTTTTTCH

This time around, Bertolt is going to open up with his Tyrantrum. There's definitely still some type disadvantages here with his team, but he's going about this a different way - especially now that he's had time to try and actually plan for once.

At the start, he's going to open up with Stealth Rock as a precaution, and follow up with two turns of Dragon Dance. Providing this goes off without any problems, his next set will be combination of Thunder Fang and Rock Slide and if the Gyarados happens to flinch, it'll be followed up by a Horn Drill to try and finish the fight. If it misses, he'll repeat with a pair of Thunder Fangs and if it's a close enough win, he'll bust out Giga Impact for the coup de grâce.

Against the Kingdra, he'll keep his Tyrantrum out and start out with another Dragon Dance, and then focus on wearing it down with Dragon Tail and Dragon Claw. Should Galli come close to fainting, his last move will be Head Smash - if he's going down he may as well go down from the recoil, right?

After the Tyrantrum is down for the count, his next Pokemon is his Arcanine - another type disadvantage, but he has a plan. HAVE SOME FAITH, ARTHUR. As soon as Marcel comes in, he's going to use Retaliate as payback for the "loss" of the Tyrantrum and focus on building up as much speed as he can with Agility. Thunder Fang is going to be his main form of offense here, as well as using Protect and Safeguard for defense when he's able.

If Marcel takes out the Kingdra, that's great. If he faints, that's also fine because regardless of the victor, Bertolt finally brings out his Trump Cards.

IF MARCEL FAINTS:

The next one Bertolt brings in is Doodle. While he's small in size and still has type disadvantages, he makes up for with sheer determination and A Desire For Payback. He'll start with Dig, and from the (relative) safety underground, he bides his time until he busts out with the other half of the attack. Following that comes Bulldoze, Earthquake, and finally Hyper Beam to hopefully finish it off.

IF MARCEL/DOODLE WINS AGAINST KINGDRA:

Upon seeing the Dragonite, Bertolt sends in his Aggron, and immediately starts upping his defenses with Iron Defense and Protect. Once he's sufficiently buffed up, he switches into attack mode. What helps here is his Aggron's ability - Rock Head. Recoil? Never heard of it.

He starts out with Rock Slide, purely to show that they mean business. The next few attacks is where things get hectic; seeing as how Rock Head nullifies any recoil, he starts busting out Iron Head and Double-Edge like it's going out of style, as well as keeping his defenses up when needed. Near the end of it all, he swaps out the Aggron for...

Doodle the Trapinch.

There isn't a lot he can do here, but providing that his Aggron has gotten the Dragonite down plenty enough, the final attack of the battle is a simple Hyper Beam.

And that Glaceon he brought with? She's simply back-up in case something goes wrong against the Dragonite.
schachmeister: (pic#10777122)

[personal profile] schachmeister 2018-12-30 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Clair / Blackthorn Gym / Rising badge
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: Hildegard the Skarmory (lvl 100); Nemesis the Sharpedo (lvl 100); Gus the Shiinotic (lvl 100); Hannibal the Piloswine (lvl 100); Himeko the Steelix (lvl 100); Aurora the Dragonair (lvl 100);
Battle Details:

Armin is going to start off this challenge, by using his Skarmory against Clair’s Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl is a Flying/Rock Pokemon who is weak to steel. Meanwhile, Skarmory is a steel/flying Pokemon. This gives her a resistance against flying attacks and normal attacks, both of which Aerodactyl has several of.

Obviously, the main strategy here is going to be steel-type attacks. To start thing off, Armin will have Skarmory use Autotomize to boost her speed and lower her weight. Aerodactyl has a higher base speed, so he hopes this will even out the difference. After that, he’ll have Skarmory use Steel Wing and Metal Claw. Both are steel type attacks. In addition, both have the chance of boosting Hilde’s stats (namely her attack and defence stat). Should Hildegard’s HP start dropping low, he’ll have her use Roost to regain it. He’s hoping this will carry him through this match, especially considering Skarmory’s much higher base defence.

For Clair’s second pokemon, Armin will withdraw his Skarmory and instead bring out his Sharpedo to deal with her Charizard. Charizard is a flying/fire type with a weakness to water. Sharpedo meanwhile is a water/dark type. Additionally, Nemesis’ ability Rough Skin means that each time Charizard makes contact with her, it’ll lose 1/16th of its maximum HP.

For this battle, Armin is going to go with speed and water. He’ll focus on having Nemesis use Aqua Jet. This move has a +1 priority, so it should go first on each turn unless Charizard uses a move with an increased priority as well. Essentially what he is hoping for is to get Charizard good and well soaked before it even has the chance to land any big hits on Nemesis. Thankfully, most of Charizard’s most powerful attacks are fire based ones which Nemesis has a resistance to. Should Nemesis run out of pp for Aqua Jet, Armin will have her switch to using Surf. All the way until Charizard has been defeated.

Onto Clair’s Kingdra. To deal with this pokemon, Armin will withdraw Nemesis and bring out Gus the Shiinotic. Kingdra is a water/dragon pokemon. Shiinotic is a fairy/grass one. Not only is Kingdra weak to Fairy-type moves, but Shiinotic is completely immune to dragon type moves and it resists water type moves. Additionally, as if this battle wasn’t terrible enough already for Kingdra, Gus the Shiinotic has the ability effect spore. This means that any contact has the chance of leaving Kingdra either asleep/paralysed/poisoned.

Gus knows two damaging Fairy-type moves: Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast. Moonblast has the higher pp, so Armin will start with that. It also has a chance of lowering Kingdra’s special attack. Also, should Kingdra manage to lay a good hit on Gus, Armin will have his use Giga Drain (and mega drain if Giga Drain is out of pp) to recover his HP. He’ll choose this move over Moonlight simply because it both restores HP and damages Kingdra. More likely than not, this match won’t last long.

For the next match against Clair’s Salamence, Armin will leave in Gus the Shiinotic. Salamence is dragon/flying. Again, as a dragon, it is weak to Gus’ fairy typing. Meanwhile, Gus is still immune to any of its dragon type attacks. Salamence does have a few fire type attacks that will need to be looked out for.

To start things off, Armin will continue his strategy from his previous match with one small change. Because Salamence strongly resists Grass-type moves, he won’t use Giga/mega drain to recover HP. Instead, he’ll switch to using Moonlight. Additionally, Armin will have one elixir on hand to use, should the PP of Gus’ two Fairy-type moves run low. Both don’t have that much PP (15 + 10) and they are the only two damaging fairy type moves Gus has access to, so it is very important to keep him topped up. Essentially, Armin will use one of Gus’ damaging fairy type moves while his HP is more than half full. Should his HP drop below 50% he’ll use Moonlight to recover it. Meanwhile, he’ll also keep his fingers crossed for any contact between Gus and Salamence so Salamence might end up with a nice (for Armin) status effect.

(I am assuming Gus will be enough to take down Salamence as well. Should he get unlucky with a few critical hits and go down, Armin will bring back Hildegard the Skarmory. This mainly because Salamence has a 4x weakness to ice and Hildegarde has been tutored to know the move Icy Wind, which should hopefully be enough to finish Salamence off if Gus didn’t manage it.)

Onto the fifth of Clair’s six pokemon. For her Garchomp, Armin will bring out Hannibal the Piloswine. Being a Dragon/Ground type, Garchomp has an unfortunate 4x weakness to ice. Piloswine just happens to be Ice/Ground, so ice ice baby.

Hannibal’s strategy for this battle is going to be pretty simple. He’ll use his heavy Ice-type moves like Ice Fang, Blizzard, and Powder Snow. All of these also come with the additional chance of freezing his opponent. Garchomp only has one move that is very effective against Piloswine (Fire Fang) while Piloswine has a whole bunch of very very effective ice moves. Armin isn’t all too concerned about this battle, to be honest.

Onto the last of Clair’s six pokemon. Things have finally come down to her Dragonite. Dragonite is a dragon/flying type and also has a 4x weakness to ice. Like before, Armin is going to leave Piloswine in this match. He will start with using a full restore on Piloswine to boost his HP back up to 100% as Piloswine lacks any HP recovering moves.

This match is going to be much the same as the last. Armin will focus on using Piloswine’s very very effective ice moves (all with the chance of freezing Dragonite) against it. Meanwhile, like Garchomp, Dragonite has only one very effective move Piloswine needs to look out for (Fire punch) but this move doesn’t receive a nice STAB bonus. In this battle, Armin is mainly depending on Piloswine’s ice type and his high HP stat to make him last until the end.

Should Piloswine be knocked out during that second match, Armin will replace him with Himeko his Steelix. As a steel/ground type, she resists Dragon moves. More importantly, Dragonite also has a weakness to Rock-type moves. Himeko has several Rock-Type moves in her arsenal (Rock throw, Rock Tomb, Rock slide, Stone edge) and while they won’t receive a STAB bonus, they should still do quite a number on Dragonite.

One final note, Armin hopes to get things done with these five pokemon. But just in case something goes awry, he will also bring his Dragonair Aurora to the fight. She is a Dragon type. Seeing as Dragon type pokemon are weak to their own type, he’ll use her as a last ditch effort to bring down Clair’s pokemon, but because Aurora will be dealing with the same weakness as her opponents, he’ll avoid this as much as he can.

Current (lv. 52)
Blaze (lv. 53)
Castor (lv. 54)

Battle Details:
Current is going to be taking on the Crobat, utilizing it's weakness to electricity to try and take it down as quickly as possible. As with their previous gym battle there won't be any verbal commands from Shoto to direct the Emolga, the young man instead using slight gestures to direct her. She'll start off with Spark, hitting quick to do some initial damage and possibly paralysis her opponent to give her a chance to avoid damage. She's going to go at the Crobat with Electro Ball after that, banking on her being slightly faster than the Crobat to up the power of the move to do some more damage. To finish it off, she's going to use Thunder Shock to send the Crobat on it's way.

Blaze will come out next to take on the Ariados, relying on her fire typing to..well...burn the spider to the ground. (And her flying type advantage will give her an even bigger advantage. Sorry, Ariados.) She's going to start off with Flame Charge, hitting the Ariados with a burst of flame and boosting her speed stat in the process. From there, it's going to be followed with Acrobatics and, since Blaze isn't holding an item, the move is going to be boosted. Is the combination of the two moves isn't enough to take the Ardiados down, Shoto will have Blaze end it with another Flame Charge.

For the last leg of the battle, Castor will take point against the Venomoth, Shoto once more utilizing a fire type advantage. She's going to use Fire Spin out of the gate, trapping her opponent in a fiery vortex for the next several turns. Shoto will then take a risk and have Castor use Inferno which unfortunately will miss (RNG gave me tails in the coin flipper) which means the next turn they have Shoto will have her use Flamethrower to finish her opponent off instead.

Battle Details:
Shoto is going to start this match off with Boreal who has recently learned that while it's a lot of fun to be an ass to his trainer, it's even more fun to be one to other Pokemon and their trainers in battle. That being said he's going to have a lot of fun assaulting the Magcargo with Water Gun then Brine for a nice hard hit and if that's not enough to take his opponent down? Well, Boreal is going to be MORE than happy to take the fire snail Surfing!

Glacier will come out next to take on the Magmortar, utilizing it's Rock weakness to her advantage and going at her opponent with her rock-type moves despite how shy she seems to be in battling at all. (Despite how he usually is when battling in gyms, Shoto is going to be calling out a lot of encouraging words to her throughout this match.) She's going to attack with Ancient Power first, aiming to not only do damage but also raise all of her stats at the same time. From there she'll use Rock Throw twice over, hopefully ending the fight there but, if need be, she'll use Ancient Power again to finish off her opponent.

Fortis will be taking on their last opponent and the Rapidash is in for a good fight here. Shoto isn't going to hold back and is going to have Fortis start off strong with Earthquake to do some major damage before following it up with Surf for some almost equally powerfully water damage. If, for some reason, that isn't enough to take the Rapidash down, Fortis will go at the poor unicorn with Water Pulse to put the other Pokemon down officially.

Character: Marco | [personal profile] sunspotted
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog/Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Viola, level 72, Teddy, level 72, Sushi, level 66.
Battle Details:

Given the proclivity of poison types in Morty's battle, Marco has loaded up on some antidotes, as well as revive and Potions. He forgot the Burn salve, though.

He's bringing Viola, his starter, whom he's very close to, even if she's a bit of a Diva. Teddy absolutely adores Marco, and frequently rides on his shoulders, so he's willing to tough out a lot. Sushi and Marco are closer now, since he lets her roll around in things and chase Pidgeys. All of them have been travelling and fighting.

Viola will start out casting Safeguard against the Haunter, to prevent poison and burn from being inflicted. Given Haunter's weakness to Dark-type moves, Marco starts out the next part of battle with Confuse Ray, hoping to inflict confusion, and will then be hitting him with Sheer Cold, hoping to faint the Haunter out the gate. If not, he'll spam Feint Attack until they're fainted. His backup here is Teddy.

Marco will switch out Viola for Teddy after that for Misdreavus. An odd choice, until Marco uses Foresight, so he can hit the other pokemon. He'll also have him defend for two turns to heal up Viola if he needs to, then spam the hell out of Sucker Punch and Hyper Voice to take down the Misdreavus. He also has Rest, if he needs to make use of it.

If Teddy faints, his backup here is Sushi, with her Screech, Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse combo, while he'll also revive Teddy during her round.

Viola is coming out again in the last battle, and Marco starts out with Safeguard, then take the chance to revive Teddy if he wasn't able to in the last battle. He'll keep that Safeguard up to prevent Poison, Burn and Sleep statuses, since Gengar has also has Hypnosis, Dream Eater and Will o Wisp. The plot will be the same here - to inflict Confuse Ray in the hopes it messes up the Gengar, then spam Feint Attack. If he runs out for Feint, he'll switch over to Extrasensory.

If Viola faints, he'll sub in Sushi, with her plethora of Dark moves, in the hopes he can get them off before she too gets fainted, and then Teddy if both of them fail.

Character: Jean Kirschstein | [personal profile] notvaljean
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm Badge AND Rising Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Teams
Team: Jean's guys
Battle Details:

RISING BADGE: Jean spent the holidays in Blackthorn, and figured that after a long break, it was time to finally get back into the battle circuit. He's going for the knockout against the dragons: he'll start with Blitz the Electrode, and try to fry out the Gyarados before it can do much damage. For the Kingdra, he'll bring out Spookycheeks the Mimikyu, and have her lean hard on Play Rough. And finally, for the Dragonite, he'll bring Fat Ice Dog for his ice moves, and Gulliver the Klefki for both his Fairy moves and his resistance to dragon attacks. Jean deliberately chose the smaller, cuter members of his team in a strategy he calls: Jingle Jingle, Motherfuckers.

STORM BADGE: Since he's traveling to the area with Armin anyway, Jean will take on this gym too. For the Hitmonlee, he'll start with Spookycheeks again, trying to knock it out with Play Rough. He'll keep her going with Potions for Hitmonchan as well, with Rocky the Aerodactyl waiting in the wings with his Flying moves if she has problems. For the Poliwrath, Jean will bring Blitz the Electrode and Charybdis the Dhelmise to gang up on it with electric and grass moves.

It should be noted the Rah Rah Bird will attend both of these gym battles and be cheering from the sidelines the whole time.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Chuck/Storm badge/Cianwood city
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Octavius the Dhelmise (lvl 100); Gus the Shiinotic (lvl 100); Mina the Crobat (lvl 100); Hildegarde the Skarmory (lvl 100); Magellan the Incineroar (lvl 100); Amadeus the Noctowl (lvl 100);
Battle Details:

This is it. The last of sixteen badges for Armin. Lets make it cool.

Starting off, Armin is going to bring out his Dhelmise Octavius against Chuck's Medicham. Medicham is a fighting/psychic type, which leaves it with a weakness to Ghost-type moves. Dhelmise meanwhile is a Grass/Ghost type. This means it not only gains STAB damage on its ghost moves, but it is also completely immune to Medicham's normal and fighting type moves.

During this battle, Armin is going to focus on Dhelmise's ghost type moves. He'll start off with using Astonish. Not only does this move deal ghost type damage, but it also has a 30% chance of making Medicham flinch. Because it is immune to Fighting and normal type moves, Dhelmise will only need to watch out for Medichamp's psychic attacks. In case one of those manages to hit Octavius pretty hard, Armin will have him use Giga Drain before switching back to Astonish.

Against Chuck's Machamp, Armin is going to leave his Dhelmise in the game. If his HP is low, he'll start off the fight with using an item to full up his HP again. Now, Machamp is a pure fighting type pokemon. This means it has no mentionable weaknesses to Dhelmise's type. But Dhelmise is still Ghost/Grass. It is still completely immune to normal and fighting type moves. And it turns out Machamp's move pool is practically all normal and fighting type moves. The only exception is its move Knock Off. This is a dark type move which Dhelmise happens to be weak to. But, it is only one.

For this battle, Armin is again going to focus on Octavius' ghost type moves. He'll use Astonish (if he has any PP left) and then switch to using Phantom Force. Phantom force is a two-turn move, where Dhelmise first turns invisible and then strikes on the next turn out of nowhere, ignoring any protection moves. Like before, Armin will have Octavius use Giga/Mega drain should its HP take a good hit. It is a big job, taking on two level 100 pokemon, but Armin believes Octavius is the, uh, anchor for the job.

For Chuck's Hariyama, Armin will withdraw Octavius (three level 100 pokemon is too much), and instead bring out Gus the Shiinotic. Hariyama is a pure Fighting type pokemon. This leaves it with a weakness to Fairy-type moves. Shiinotic is a combined Grass/Fairy type pokemon. This gives him a resistance to Fighting-type moves. It also needs to be mentioned that Gus' ability is Effect Spore. This means that each time Hariyama makes physical contact with him, there is a chance he'll be poisoned/paralyzed/left asleep.

To begin this battle, Armin is going to tell Gus to use Ingrain. Using this move, he'll root himself to the ground. This means he won't be able to escape the battle anymore, but also means he'll be able to recover 1/16th of his full HP every turn. Next Armin will have Gus use his Fairy-type moves (Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast) on Hariyama. He'll also keep his fingers crossed that contact with Gus will leave Hariyama with status effects. Should this not happen though, he'll toss in a sleep powder at some point. Through ingrain, Gus will be recovering 1/16th of his health every turn, but in addition to that, if it looks like his health is getting low, Armin will have him use Giga/Mega drain to drain Hariyama's HP and add it to his own health. And that all the way until Hariyama goes down.

Onto Chuck's Breloom. Breloom is a fighting/grass type pokemon. To count it, Armin will be bringing out Mina the Crobat. Breloom is grass/fighting, which leaves it extra vulnerable to flying type moves and vulnerable to poison type moves. Mina is a flying/poison type pokemon with a strong resistance to fighting type moves and grass ones. Mina will also be entering this battle without a held item.

However, Armin wouldn't be Armin is he didn't do his homework. When looking up Breloom, he saw they could either have the ability Effect Spore (he is very familiar with that one) or Poison Heal. He doesn't know which ability Chuck's Breloom has, so he's come prepared with a good supply of healing items to heal any status effect Breloom might leave. Additionally, he's not going to use any of Mina's poison type moves until he has confirmation on Breloom's ability. So basically, if Breloom at any point inflicts a status effect on Mina, he'll know it cannot have Poison Heal and he'll have Mina use her poison type moves too. However, if Breloom fails to inflict any status effects this way, he'll assume that it has the Poison Heal ability and will put the kibosh on any poison type moves.

Thankfully, Mina still has plenty of flying type moves to make Breloom's life absolutely crap. Furthermore, Mina was bred by Ford -- everything worth achieving is worth overachieving -- Pines, which means she also has the move Brave Bird. He'll start the battle off using Acrobatics (power doubled due to lack of a held item). If a status effect is inflicted on Mina through contact, Armin will take a turn to heal her, before dipping into her poison type moves as well. If Mina's HP ends up low, he'll have her use Giga Drain to replenish it. Once Breloom's HP is low enough, Armin will finish things off with a hard-hitting Brave Bird.

Next, it's Chuck's Primeape. Armin will leave Mina in, but he will use his first turn to fully heal her HP. Primeape is a pure fighting type with a weakness to flying. Mina still has her strong resistance to fighting type moves.

Compared to the last fight, this strategy will be far more straight forward. Mina will start off with Poison Fang in the hopes of poisoning Primeape. After that, it's back to her old tricks. Her old Acrobatics tricks, that is. Additionally, to stay out of reach of Primeape's moves, Armin'll also have her use Fly. If Primeape gets a good strike in, He'll have her use Giga-drain to recover lost HP. Most of the focus in this battle will be on Mina's flying type moves, and as before, once Primeape is low enough in HP, he'll try and finish it up with another Brave Bird. Even if Mina's gotta take herself out to do it.

Then we arrive at Chuck's final Pokemon: his Toxicroak. Armin will switch out Mina (if she didn't take herself out, that is) and instead bring out an old and faithful companion: Amadeus his Noctowl. Toxicroak is a Poison/Fighting type, with a weakness to both Flying and Psychic moves. Amadeus is a Normal/Flying pokemon. It doesn't have any particular weaknesses or resistances to Toxicroak's type, but Amadeus does have a wide array of Psychic-type moves. Might not get STAB bonus, but they are still gonna be very effective.

Which is why it won't be a surprise that in this fight, Amadeus' psychic moves will take centre stage. He'll start things off with Hypnosis, hoping to put his opponent to sleep. If asleep, he'll use Dream Eater to both damage Toxicroak and regain any lost HP. In addition to Hypnosis, Armin will also have Amadeus use Zen Headbutt (20% chance of flinching), Extrasensory and Psychic. If Toxicroak happens to inflict any status effects on Amadeus, Armin will have him use Psycho Shift to transfer the condition onto Toxicroak. And if Amadeus' HP looks dangerously low, he'll have him use Roost, then get back to the psychic attacks when healed.

Armin will be bringing his Skarmory and Incineroar as back-ups for any of his pokemon unexpectedly go down. Hilde is a flying type, which many of Chuck's pokemon are weak too. Magellan, meanwhile, is just going to be thrown in there based on sheer power.

Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Highwind (lv. 50)
Ana (lv. 72)

Battle Details:
Ana is going to come out first in this battle, taking on the Girafarig and using it's weakness to Dark types against it. Noct is going to have her start off with Dark Pulse right out the gate and with her significant level advantage over her opponent, if that doesn't take it down the prince will honestly be surprised. If need be, he'll have Ana use Night Slash to finish it off for sure but honestly it should go down pretty easy.

For the Clefable, Noct is going to switch Ana out for Highwind who will use his Poison typing against the Clefable. Highwind will use Poison Tail first then follow it up with Toxic, Noct not wanting to give the Clefable an inch if he can help it. If they need to, he'll have Highwind finish it off with Sludge Bomb to do a lot of damage all at once and knock the Clefable out of the match.

And last but not least comes to the Miltank. Noct is going to switch Ana back in for this one and basically just use brute force against the other Pokemon. The prince will have his Weavile use Hyper Beam for the sheer force of power and follow it up with Dark Pulse for another good blast of sheer power. Once again Ana's sheer level advantage should make this an easy win for her.

Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Kotetsu (lv. 57)
Mac Lir (lv. 59)

Battle Details:
Kotetsu is going to take lead against the Skarmory given the iron bird's weakness to fire. Fire Fang will be his first attack, hitting the other Pokemon hard and fast before following it up with Flamethrower to add more pain to what he's already done. This should take the Skarmory out but another round of Flamethrower will be used if need be.

The Charmeleon is going to stay in for the next round, facing off against the Magneton and once again use it's fire typing to it's advantage. They're evenly matched for level but his fire attacks will play in his favor and Kotetsu is going to hit hard and fast as Noct will have him use Fire Spin first to trap the other Pokemon in a vortex. If need be he'll end it all with Inferno should the Fire Spin not be enough to take the other Pokemon down in the end.

Now comes Steelix. While Kotetsu has an advantage here is well he's much weaker than the other Pokemon which is where Mac Lir comes in. The Gyarados has an advantage as well with her typing so she's going to take on the other Pokemon and assault it with a barrage of Surf and Hydro Pump. If necessary Aqua Tail will be used to finish the other Pokemon off should that combo of attacks not be enough.

Character: Shiro | [personal profile] shiro2hero
Badge/Gym Leader: Mahogany
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Team: Here
Battle Details: Once again, Shiro is playing to type matchups here, leading off with his Incineroar and favoring fire and fighting-based attacks. Should she be knocked out, or incapacitated, he'll switch to his Marowak, and go for rock type moves along with the fighting style ones Marowak knows. Backing them up with defensive moves like Protect and Heal pulse is, again, his Gallade. If all else fails, he'll attempt to brute force the gym with his Aggron and its rock/steel moves.

Badge/Gym Leader: Blackthorn
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Battle Details: Blackthorn sees an odd choice of a starting pokemon. Shiro throws out his Spheal. His absurdly high level Spheal. She'll favor Ice type attacks right off the bat. For the most part in this fight, he'll stay with his Spheal. Backing her up, again, is his Marowak, and Aggron with their rock type moves. Rounding out his pokemon for the fight is his Gallade, but in an offensive position, wielding all the fairy type moves it knows.

Character: Shoto Todoroki | [personal profile] rimeblaze
Badge/Gym Leader: Rainbow Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
Blaze (lv. 61)
Castor (lv. 62)

Battle Details:
Given their level advantage and type advantage, Shoto isn't going to use much strategy for this battle and allow for more of just an all out brawl.

Blaze will go first, taking on the Jumpluff. She'll come out of the gate using Flame Charge, cloaking herself in flames and attacking the other while boosting her speed stat in the process. She'll follow this up with Ember to take the other out completely. She'll stay in against the Tangrowth and use Ember against her opponent twice in a row rather than utilizing Flame Charge like she did against the Jumpluff. If necessary she will use Flame Charge against the Tangrowth but hopefully one of the Embers will leave a burn and help take the other Pokemon out with just those two attacks.

Castor will swap in against the Bellossom and use Inferno to make the grass Pokemon's day pretty terrible. If need be she'll use Fire Blast to finish the battle completely but Shoto's hoping Inferno will end things quickly enough.
