Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Jaskier | [personal profile] rollstoseduce
Badge/Gym Leader: Erika for the Rainbow Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Calym the Togekiss (59) holding the Shell Bell
Battle Details: Oh, what a wonderful gym! So much beauty everywhere found in two of Jaskier's favorite things: pretty girls and flowers. Bless this place. Every lady will be winked at, everyone will hear at least once that Jaskier means buttercup and by Arceus, be thankful he's taken now and won't make some kind of I'm also a flower, would you take care of me too? comment. Though he kind hints the idea.

I'm so sorry for him.

After asking Erika all about her gorgeous plants and telling her he has many a flower Pokémon himself, he promises he can show them to her... later. Because he hasn't brought them for the battle. You don't fight fire with fire after all! Jaskier has brought only one mon with him, in the spirit of the whole "having fun and making a show out of Kanto gyms" thing he started with Sabrina. It's time for Paraflinch again! Erika's Grass-type Pokémon thankfully aren't the kind to be half Poison, so Calym the Togekiss' Fairy-type is safe from Poison STAB. He starts the battle setting up Safeguard to avoid all the status effects Grass-types are known for, then it's Thunder Wave for each of Erika's leafy friends, followed by constant Air Slash, which should make the plants flinch thanks to Serene Grace - not to mention the high damage thanks to STAB+type advantage+level difference. Paraflinch and being Flying-type shouldn't allow the opponents to do much damage, but if healing is required, Calym has STAB Draining Kiss and, most importantly, is holding the Shell Bell the Cursola from the lost temple have blessed Jaskier with.

Character: Byleth Eisner | [personal profile] didyoulosethis
Badge/Gym Leader: Misty for the Cascade Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Knife dog (Absol L:38), Levin Spider (Galvantula L:41), Zhu (Golbat L:33), Ammo (Primeape L:35)
Battle Details: Byleth is taking their strategizing very very seriously, and they've been doing their research to help with it! Their priority will be on status-inflicting moves to level the playing field if not to gain an advantage, with Levin and Zhu running status to set up for Ammo and Knife Dog to dish out the damage. They are mindful of type advantages as well, but are prioritizing opportunistic attacks and raw power over the boosts afforded by them - if things get dicey, though, they will readily encourage Levin to lay down some electricity.

Golduck will be met with Levin Spider first, entering with a strategic status-based opening of Thunder Wave. Byleth will be quick to switch Levin out before he takes too much damage, hopefully with a paralysis in place, and will bring out Knife Dog next. Their strategy from here is to use Focus Energy and Night Slash for damage, though they may also dip into Double Team and Detect if they assess that Golduck's strength is too much of a threat.

Next up is Lapras, which Byleth has determined to be Misty's most threatening pokemon. They'll gamble a bit here and get Zhu to hammer Lapras with status moves like Supersonic, Astonish, and Poison Fang (much to the pesky Golbat's delight, of course). Their primary objective is to poison Lapras, then swap into Ammo to capitalize on its Fighting-type weakness with Low Kick and Cross Chop, again utilizing Focus Energy to maximize Ammo's damaging potential here.

And finally is Starmie. Levin leads again with Thunder Wave, but this time Byleth takes no chances and urges Levin to press the offensive with Agility and Electro Ball. If that isn't enough, Knife Dog will be back to finish, with the same strategy employed against Golduck.

In addition to strategic move selection, Byleth's pokemon have been trained to prioritize feints, evasion, and backstabs, using speed to hopefully avoid some damage and isolate openings to safely attack. This strategy of course works best with pokemon that fight up-close; Levin is fast but may not be quite as appropriately equipped to Byleth's intended battling style. Overall, this battle likely won't be much of a spectacle, but reflects the amount of time and effort they have poured into watching other battles, trial and error, and research into the strength and weaknesses of both Misty's pokemon and their own. They may not, however, be able to fully account for the fact that Knife Dog will be pushing himself extra hard to earn their approval and secure a win, and that Ammo is a very, very excitable Primeape who might not always follow the plan to the letter.

(Also, Nyaff will be cheering and recording with a very scrutinizing Mandagot from the sidelines.)

Character: Jaskier | [personal profile] rollstoseduce
Badge/Gym Leader: Janine for the Soul badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Plumeria the Aurorus (54) holding the Shell Bell
Battle Details: Janine may be a ninja, but unlike Sabrina and Clair, Jaskier doesn't find her very scary - she's a sweetheart! So yes, she gets winked at. Because scary fathers are only scary if they're around, not if they're stuck in an E4 room. That's Jaskier's philosophy - Schrodinger's daddy or something. (Obligatory apology for him goes here.)

The Pokémon that will be starring this battle is Plumeria, Jaskier's beautiful rainbow-dino (aka Aurorus). Unlike other encounters, Plumeria doesn't have a great level advantage over her opponents, she matches Janine's levels. However, she's holding the Shell Bell, she starts the battle by setting up Light Screen and, most importantly, she resists Poison (and Flying as well, considering certain bat!). So even if Venomoth does have Tinted Lens, Jaskier thinks Plumeria should last long enough to handle this battle by herself - especially when we move from mentioning the defense to the offense: after Light Screen, Plumeria also sets up Hail and Stealth Rock. All of Janine's Pokémon are weak to Rock thanks to the types going with the gym's poison, and Crobat is also weak to ice. That means it's Ice Beam for it, Ancient Power for Ariados and Venomoth. STAB damage + Stealth Rock + Hail should make powerful combined damage, especially if Ancient Power is feeling generous and activates that stat boost.

Azalea Town
Badge/Gym Leader: Azalea Town | Hive Badge | Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Sinistea (61), Gyarados (63), Talonflame (70), Meowstic (71), Cursola (72), Midnight Lycanroc (58).

Battle Details:
Pinsir
- Sinistea (Hojicha)
According to Showdown this should be a max 2HKO just using foul play alone, but!
Shadow Ball - Ghost Type move which means stab damage
Shell Smash - To set up the unnecessary damage of:
Foul Play - Dark Type, no stab
If for some critical, dice roll of 1, his partner in this is going to be Gyarados. I think just Gyarados alone could definitely have done this, but he likes his teacup, and his teacup is his friend. His very dead, and teacup shaped friend.
- Gyarados (Katsumi)
Waterfall - because why not? Waterfall has a 20% chance of flinch.

Heracross
- Meowstic (Toshiko)
Psybeam - Even with Bug being 2 x against psychic, Psybeam, according to a matchup is a guaranteed OHKO that Meowstic could tank a hit and still get one in with the Psybeam being a 100% accuracy.
To make sure that Talonflame isn't off his game, the spare pokemon (mentioned below) are the pokemon that will clean up for Meowstic should something happen.
Should for some reason this fail ridiculously, Talonflame can play cleanup.
- Talonflame (Kei)
Kei has fire, fire go brr.

Sizor
- Talonflame (Kei)
Fire go brr. Bug steel go brr.
- Gyarados (Katsumi)
Should there be a need, Gyarados can clean up. There's not a huge chance that his whole team gets knocked out unless there's a ton of 1 rolls lol so they can help should needs arise.

Backup Pokemon
Should something go catastrophe for say Meowstic and Talonflame which is extremely unlikely, but hey that's the name of the game. There are two other with the express purpose of hold over until type setting/chip damage, never being made to faint, just try their hardest. The pokemon being utilized to play in between are:
- Cursola (Kicho)
The rock moves are what will be utilized
- Midnight Lycanroc (Unaru)
Fill in where Rock moves are necessary to carry over to the next battle set.

Goldenrod City
Badge/Gym Leader: Goldenrod City | Plain | Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Meowstic (79), Cursola (80), Midnight Lycanroc (66), Haunter (47), Talonflame (78), Persian (70).

Battle Details:
Honestly, not going to lie this is probably not an easy go for his team, but using 2x attacks on pokemon who don't have a huge negation by their opponent, and their levels, should mostly do it. I tested what I could, but crit 1's exist lol.

Girafarig (40)
Persian (Tofu) (70)
- Dark moves seem to be the go to for any counter on Girafarig where Tofu is concerned. Any and all of those will be implemented in the service of beating the Girafrig if it's level isn't already just too much for the poor opponent.
Talonflame (Kei) (78)
- U-Turn is his biggest go to against this particular pokemon and the likelihood of him having to do very much will likely be minimal.

Clefable (42)
Haunter (Shishō) (47)
- Poison moves mostly, this is for the 2x damage and Todoroki trying to trust the pokemon with their first premier battle. Hojicha has nothing in poison so there was great trust put in Haunter to give it their best go.
Talonflame (Kei) (78)
- Steel moves are effective against the Clefable and Talonflame has Steel Wing, that'll be utilized with 2x damage to be able to chop this pokemon down if Haunter's appearance does nothing big.
Meowstic (Toshiko) (79)
- Toshiko is here for powerthrough back up, this might actually be an interesting battle whereas Haunter isn't a higher level like the other pokemon.

Miltank (45)
Cursola (Kichō) (80)
- Cursola will fight with whatever it has at its disposal, it doesn't really have any 2x, but it certainly does its best with everything it has. It has almost double the level of Miltank and sadly, Miltank doesn't have just normal moves, but normal moves aren't exactly a problem for Ghosts, but therein the issues there, too. Things like Ancient power and Power Gem will be rolled out (no pun) in this instance. Anything that doesn't have ghost stab.
M. Lycanroc (Unara) (66)
- Utilizing counter will be their best bet. Counter is an important fighting move and the only one that they really have. It'll be used at any time they can to force them out of too many vital hits.

Backup Pokemon in the Mitank fight
Meowstic (Toshiko) (79)
- Any power through he can help with
Persian (Tofu) (70)
- Mostly dark moves
Talonflame (Kei) (78)
- Definitely here to support in both level and any ability to try to take down the tank HP.

Meowstic, though featured in the last battle, is a power through pokemon should they need to help in between the pairings.

This time Mr. Teacup sits out and gets to kick his coasters up lol.

I tried to keep the levels to where (inandabout) they would've been ish for the time in movement, so there's discrepencies/lower levels in the first battle since one comes after the other once he gets to those places. Also apologies for the double up, but I had things I needed to attend to RL that made me have to backdate one of these.
angewiesen: (15)

[personal profile] angewiesen 2021-09-05 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Jean Kirstein | [personal profile] angewiesen

Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: altaltaltaltaltalt

Battle Details: Normal types are infamous for having huge bags of tricks to pull from, and Jean expects to be kept on his toes during this battle.

Expecting Ursaring to come out first, Jean is going to start with Sabre (Gallade). Due to Ursaring’s available abilities, stat deduction doesn’t seem like a good idea. He’s tempted to use Close Combat, but he knows Ursaring’s best stat is his attack, and his defense is high enough to avoid an OHKO. He uses Swords Dance first, confident that Sabre can handle one blow, and then land the OHKO with Close Combat.

For Granbull, Jean brought in Rook (Bisharp) exclusively. He didn’t really understand how a rouge Fairy-Type got into Whitney’s team, but whatever. Anything STAB won’t work on a Steel/Dark-Type. Granbull is slow and its defenses are weak, so Jean uses Iron Head for the possible flinch and sticks to it for the faint.

After fighting a Bisharp, Jean expects Whitney to bring out something that can use Fighting Type attacks. Snowlax is the only one left.To counter this, he sends in Edge (Aegislash). The Ghost/Steel Type is his trump card for this battle, so he wants him to stay healthy. But Snorlax is a tough opponent. Hoping for the first-turn Belly Drum, Jean comes straight out with Sacred Sword to hit for super effective damage on Snorlax’s weaker Physical Defense stat. He’s just gonna wail on his and not let up, or else Snorlax can just get its health back with Rest. Hopefully Edge will survive.

Jean has a specific tactic to take care of Blissey. Fang, his Seviper. First, Toxic. After that, Wrap, to keep the Blissey from switching out and possibly taking advantage of Natural Cure. He wants that Toxic to get as strong as it possibly can be. Maybe Fang can last it out until the Blissey faints. If not, he’ll bring in Timber (Haxorus) to finish the deal with an Outrage.

For Tauros, Jean intends to use Chess (Corviknight). Her typing protects against most of Tauros’ best moves (Normal, Rock, and Ground.) Plus, her Body Press as made for this matchup. Tauros is a bit of a glass cannon, so she only has to outlast for a little while. Jean is confident she can do it.

All that’s left is Exploud. Jean’s had all of his Pokemon out at least once by now, so he might be running a bit low. Timber is probably the most healthy at this point, so he’ll start with him. Might as well Outrage until he can’t anymore. After that, any Steel-Type that’s likely to have some HP left will go out. Exploud doesn’t have a reliable way to heal, so it’s just down to toughing it out.

Badge/Gym Leader: Fog Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: altaltaltaltaltalt

Battle Details: To be honest, Ghosts are a type that Jean tends to avoid. The whole concept around most of them kinda freaks him out. Dead things need to stay dead, you know? Thankfully, Jean has an abundance of Dark Types to help him in this battle.

Sabre (Gallade) exists at the end of the party for mind games with Shade’s (Zoroark) Illusion ability. A Fighting/Psychic Type will undoubtedly draw in Ghost or Psychic moves, which won’t do a whole lot to a Zoroark. But Gallade’s Psychic moves still have power over some of Morty’s Pokemon. Which one is actually out? You’ll never know!

Jean leads with Max (Lycanroc), hoping for Drifblim. He sets up Stealth Rocks first, as they really help with chip damage on several of Morty’s Pokemon. Then he unleashes his strongest Rock Type moves to hit Drifblim’s poor Defense stat. He doesn’t expect Max to survive after knock out due to Drifblim’s likely Aftermath ability.

Hail (Alolan Ninetales) is here for Spiritomb and Spiritomb only. Fairy Type is the only thing that hits that monster with super effective damage. Time to use Dazzling Gleam until somebody goes down.

If Chandelure comes out, Jean will counter with Trio. It’s Dragon typing protecting it from Fire type moves and high Special Defense giving it a chance against Chandelure’s high Special Attack. Also, Stealth Rocks with take out ¼ of its HP automatically. Jean is careful to use Dark Pulse (taught by TM just for this battle!) instead of Crunch because of Chandelure's possible Flame Body ability, and he wants to keep Trio healthy for later on. It should be enough to OHKO through Chandelure’s weak defenses.

Mismagius is the perfect Pokemon to trick with Shade’s Illusion. An incoming Ghost type attack will be taken well, and Shade can hit for what will likely be an OHKO with Night Slash, since Mismagius has been softened by Stealth Rocks and its Defense is absolute garbage while Zoroark’s Attack is high.

For Gengar, Jean is going to use the actual Sabre, not just Shade pretending to be them. He hopes to take advantage of the momentary confusion to its advantage and hit hard for super effective damage with Psycho Cut. It’s highly likely that Gengar will outspeed the second turn with a Destiny Bond, so Jean doesn’t expect Sabre to survive the encounter.

This leaves Rook and Trio in perfect health to take care of Dusknoir. It’s a bulky Pokemon with a lot of defensive options and stalling tactics, so Jean wouldn’t be surprised if both had to fight their hardest to bring it down. Bu he believes in them, and their type advantage.

Character: Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd | [personal profile] nastyboy
Badge/Gym Leader: Misty for the Cascade Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Roster of Dean the Emboar, Gremlin the Rattata, Gabby the Miltank, Gwin the Altaria, Fraldariend the Galarian Rapidash, and Knocker the Raticate
Battle Details: Dimitri has seen other Elite matches before - Chip and Felix have eagerly leapt into it with proper preparation - but it's only recently that he's gotten enough Pokemon at high levels to make an Elite matching team himself!

That said, up against Quagsire, he actually goes with the lowest leveled Pokemon of his group, and one of the few who isn't level 100. There's reason for busting out Gwin the Altaria, and that's because Dimitri wastes no time in going Mega Evolution with him. The boost to his stats should help make up for his lower level!

And that's good, because Dimitri knows Gwin will need the extra speed to bust out Sing to start this battle. Quagsire's own Yawn could put them in the same position, after all, so best to head that move off before it can start, along with any status-changing abilities that Quagsire is full of! An Altaria may not have any moves that do particular damage to Quagsire's water and ground typing, but Gwin still has plenty more that will do a lot of damage... And while Sign is in affect, Dimitri will push forward with as much as he can get away with! Moonblast and Dragon Pulse will be the weapons of choice here, being Gwin's strongest attacks. Dimitri hopes that a strong start will push them through the start of this battle!

Hopefully with Sing and constant attacking, Gwin will make it through with little (ideally no) damage, because Dimitri is going to keep Gwin on the field against Lanturn! Mega Altaria's resistance against both Water and Electric type will come in handy here, although paralyze possibilities are still a problem.

And so... Of course, we'll start off with Sing again! While Lanturn is stuck in dreamland, Gwin will additionally buff himself up with Agility and Cotton Guard. That means hopefully it's fine if Lanturn wakes up a little early, because Gwin will be fully prepared to go at him hard and fast with Moonblast and Dragon Breath - the latter which means there's a chance that, even without Sing, Lanturn still may get stuck and unable to retaliate! Should things be going tough, Roost will help Gwin recover from it all.

Roost may help Gwin stay on top, however, but Dimitri won't force him to exhaust himself by also going up against Floatzel. Instead, for that particular opponent, he breaks out Gremlin the Rattata. Dimitri feels a bit confident with Gremlin out against a pure water type, because that's straightforward, and he likes that! They'll begin the match with a bit of Toxic, to lend a bit of kick to things, before showing off with some Swagger. This is partially Dimitri experimenting with some of Gremlin's least utilized moves... But it's fine! If things start to look dire, they'll bust out tried and true Thunder Wave, before cleaning up with Super Fang and Crunch.

Of course, out of all of Misty's Pokemon, Lapras is a power house - something Dimitri knows from experience. So he'll play a little dirty as he keeps Gremlin out just long enough for a quick Thunder Wave, followed by a cheeky U-Turn.

This is to give the next Pokemon in Dimitri's team a slight edge to make up for his massive disadvantage - Dean the Emboar. Lapras' menagerie of water moves can do him a world of hurt, but the Ice moves won't, and Dimitri's own Fighting moves should hopefully make up for a bit of damage retaliation!

So while Lapras is hopefully still stuck paralyzed, Dean is going to dive right in with a strong Rock Smash or two - something to weaken Lapras for the following Power Up Punch and Arm Thrust! Dimitri knows that they have to take advantage of Gremlin's Thunder Wave while it lasts, before Lapras can hit them with a Sheer Cold, Sing, or Hydro Pump! No fancy status inflicting or changing moves here. It's all about that punching, in hopes of finishing the match quick!

Fingers crossed that it goes well, because Dimitri wants to keep his next fighter ready in the wings for going up against Milotic. Much like with Floatzel, Dimitri is deferring to a rat on this match again - Knocker the Raticate! Milotic is clearly a fighter more than anything else, so Dimitri and Knocker decide to drag their opponent down immediately with a Super Fang. Knocker will make sure to get a Crunch in there too, in hopes of weakening Milotic's defenses for any moves that come after. There's always a chance that Milotic can put Knocker in a tight spot, of course, but in that case, she'll use Endeavor to drag her opponent down to her level, and then hopefully stop things from getting too bad with Quick Attack!

If all goes well, then that will leave only Starmie to defeat... And for that, Dimitri will pull out Gabby the Miltank! With no particular weaknesses to what Starmie is bringing, there's no worry for Dimitri and Gabby to start off with a Bulldoze to slow down Starmie's spinning speed and a Rock Smash to soften them up a little! That hopefully gives Gabby a good start up for going with her favorite combination and that of Miltanks everywhere.... Defense Curl followed up by Rollout! It's fingers crossed that this is enough for her to push through any Confusion-related nonsense.... And if things take a turn, hopefully Gabby will have enough breathing space to ring that Heal Bell and recover with a refreshing Milk Drink before she can Play Rough.

The best case scenario, of course, is that everyone can do their part just as planned, and no one falls before their chosen battles are over. But just in case... There's always Fraldariend the Galarian Rapidash. With his own Psychic arsenal that's good to go against the majority of Misty's team, like Psybeam and Psycho Cut, he can clean up where his compatriots have started. If he has to go up against Starmie, Megahorn will be especially brutal! Worst comes to worst, he's learned to be responsible enough to make a Healing Wish, and bring back whichever of the others could bring them to victory.

Win or lose, Dimitri thanks Misty for the opportunity to battle.... And then asks if she wouldn't mind - after his friends have finished their battles as well - maybe he could bring his own Lapras and Chinchou over to meet her Pokemon...? Karimala needs to meet more good Lapras friends, and Seonaidh might respond better to someone of his own kind.

Character: Claude von Riegan | [personal profile] vrdantwind
Badge/Gym Leader: Misty, for the Cascade Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Claude's roster
Battle Details: Listen, Misty, you're a nice girl and all, and Claude wants to give you a good battle, but...he's just not feeling it right now. He's going through a lot, you know?

(He did briefly entertain trying to take on her elite team, since Dimitri did, but ultimately decided he doesn't have the team composition he'd want for that yet.)

So, if his fight with Misty's elite team is still off in the future, and his fight with her regular team is going to involve his own high-level pokémon steamrolling right over hers, and he's not really in the right mindset anyway...

Well, he's just going to make this as quick as possible.

Sturm the Toxtricity is going to sweep. And at level 100, it will indeed be very quick.

(Claude does apologize to Misty, with a wan smile, and promises to come back and give her elite team a real fight once he's ready.)

These are both rather backdated due to me being lazy about updating Hawks' roster

[personal profile] feathersfly 2021-09-12 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Hawks | [personal profile] feathersfly
Badge/Gym Leader: Bugsy, for the Hive Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hawks' roster
Battle Details: Hawks' first gym - yes, he's doing them a bit out of order - is kind of going to be a cakewalk.

Look, he's got an all-bird team. It's a bug gym. Do the math. The fact that his team has anywhere from a 10 to 20 level advantage doesn't hurt, either. (Apparently being stuck in Goldenrod for awhile has put him in a good position. He's glad for that, too; he's not going to have this kind of advantage all that often. He knows a themed team is going to have to punch through walls a more flexible team comp could simply go around.)

He does a fair amount of swapping his pokémon during the battle, but it's not really because he's going to need to much; it's more to give them some experience, let them enjoy the thrill of their first gym battle. The conclusion's pretty foregone, though.

Character: Hawks | [personal profile] feathersfly
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner, for the Zephyr Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hawks' roster
Battle Details: Falkner's going to be tougher than Bugsy in that Hawks has no type advantage, but the level advantage is even higher here due to Hawks' doing these gyms out of order. However, surprisingly...that's not what Hawks chooses to exploit. (At least not at first. It's a good thing to fall back on, though.)

Instead, he first sends out Sesame the Toucannon. At 35, she's right in level range of Falkner's own team. But she's got a secret weapon.

Rock Blast.

Combined with her ability, Skill Link, Rock Blast will always hit the maximum five times. And all of Falkner's pokémon are weak to it.

Hawks will see just how far Sesame and her rocks can get him on their own, but if she gets in trouble, he's got stronger teammates waiting in the wings who can give her a break.

Hawks will definitely have a nice, enthusiastic chat with Falkner after the battle about bird pokémon, and request a selfie with him.

Character: Mari Makinami Illustrious | [personal profile] motivenotfound
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr Badge/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Roster.
Battle Details: This is Mari's first badge, and she's not nervous! No, really, she isn't. Because she's leading with Baragon. She's figured out his Rivalry ability/issue, and as extra motivation, she's told him ahead of time that if he starts struggling, she'll swap him out with Gamera. Which isn't reassurance. It's a threat.

And just to spice things up, she's having Baragon lead with Flatter--a move that boosts Noctowl's alreasdy hefty Special Attack but instantly confuses it. This is extra ballsy because Noctowl is notorious for having Psychic moves, which Baragon is weak to. Baragon, however, has Captivate, which lowers the enemy's Special Attack two stages (just like Flatter RAISES that Special Attack two stages) if the opponent is the opposite gender, and Ice Beam, which Noctowl is weak to. The gambit--such as it is--is to use Noctowl's Confusion to give Baragon an opportunity to drop that Special Attack back down if it's a lady bird, and then hit hard with Ice Beam. Hopefully hard enough--or often enough--to drop Noctowl before Baragon gets mind-nuked by a spooky owl.

If Noctowl's not a lady bird, then Rivalry boosts Baragon's Attack and Special Attack by 25%, so either way there's a strategy.

Assuming Baragon makes it through, he'll be applying the same strategy to Honchkrow. Maybe even Pidgeot, although Mari is not exactly sure that win is possible.

If not, it's Gamera's turn, and Baragon will just have to git good work harder to surpass his real rival next time!

Gamera's strategy is a lot, lot simpler.

The plan looks like this: Iron Defence -> Rain Dance -> Shell Smash -> Hydro Pump.

The low accuracy of Hydro Pump is offset by its sheer power--Rain Dance boosts its already massive base power by a whopping 50%, meaning that with STAB, Special Attack boost from Shell Smash, and Gamera's level advantage, it may only take one good shot to take Pidgeot down.

Which is all well and good, hopefully. But. During the temple exploration, Mari befriended Sir Joestar... and after discovering a truly alarming diving suit that she couldn't NOT put on once she saw it, she taught him the fine art of the selfie. For her first gym battle, she brought him along for company, and during this match, Mari and Jonathan will be taking selfies, for fun. They will also take selfies after. With Falkner. Whether he likes it or not.

Pinsir: Demo the Graveler is sent out for this match and while Pinsir's Fight move(s) is 2x damage against this boulder, Demo's level advantage makes a possible Seismic Toss from Pinsir less effective, while his own Rock moves have a 4x effectiveness. That being said, I think the move in this case is to Defense Curl then Rollout to victory, and Stone Edge if Demo misses at any point or if he needs a coup de grace after the full Rollout.

Heracross: A fluffy little Torchic takes the field... and puffs his feathers into a Fire Spin, proceeding to try and Peck Heracross' hard shell until it faints.

Scizor: No more messing around, King Murder Explosion the Torchic Flamethrowers until the win.

Badge/Gym Leader: Lt. Surge | Thunder
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Ant the Mudsdale (51), Matsue the Palossand (71), Katar the Krookodile (42), Gladius the Garchomp (53)
Battle Details:

Matsue is here to almost exclusively provide as the moral support and tank by laying down Sandstorm at the beginning of the round and when it's needed to refresh.

Electabuzz: Ant the Mudsdale will take this challenge after Matsue lays down a Sandstorm in the first round, which his is immune to. His starting move will be Earthquake, then Bulldoze, followed by High Horsepower.

Magneton: If Ant is still good for another hit or so, he'll Earthquake before giving over to Matsue to refresh the Sandstorm. Katar the Krookodle will then be sent out to Earthquake. The hope here is Katar will manage to get through this match and be able to smack Raichu at least once next round since his Moxie ability will boost that. If Magneton chooses to employ Magnet Rise, Kirishima will tell Katar to switch to Dark moves like Crunch.

Raichu: If all goes to plan then Katar will be able to Earthquake the first round with an added bonus from his Moxie. Then he will be switched out to Matsue to do Sandstorm. In the cover of Sandstorm, Gladius the Garchomp should come in being harder to hit. He will Bulldoze to knock down Raichu's speed and then Dig to victory.

Kirishima comes in with one Super Potion which he plans to use on Gladius, though he will throw it on Katar if needed to get him into the round with Raichu. He will accept defeat if he has to use Matsue as more than a buffer to apply this potion/Sandstorm appliance since he thinks it is unfair to challenge the gym with a 70+ Pokemon full-frontal.

[personal profile] nastyboy 2021-09-26 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd | [personal profile] nastyboy
Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina for the Marsh Badge
Elite/Regular: ELITE TEAM
Team: Consisting of Dean the Emboar, Gremlin the Rattata, Gaibhennen the Miltank, Adarllwchgwin the Altaria, Grindy the Kingler, and Karimala the Lapras
Battle Details: Dimitri always feels kind of dumb around psychic types, honestly... but that just means he and his team really have to work hard for this match!

And so they start that off strong, with Dean the Emboar going up against Sabrina's Jynx! His fighting subtype may not match well against a Psychic type, but Fire VS Ice? That's a much more even battle! Of course, the most worrying thing in Dimitri's opinion is if Jynx uses either of her sleep-inducing moves, like Sing, or Sweet Kiss.

So to get the biggest hit in while they can, Dean unleashes a Flamethrower right out the gate. It's one of the stronger fire moves Dean has, and the chance of a burn can't be overlooked! If they're lucky enough to get that, then of course Dean will toss in a little bit of Assurance in there, if he can. Emboar aren't really meant to be status-affecting battlers like a lot of Psychic types, of course... So Dimitri and Dean are hoping to bull rush straight through with pure force! If it looks as though Jynx might be gearing up for a song or a kiss, Dean will try to pull in with a Defense Curl to help mitigate what damage he can... But hopefully pure firepower will stop before things get too bad with any status inflictions!

With all things hopefully going well, it's Gremlin the Rattata up against Wobuffet! The most tricky thing here is the idea of an Encore and Mirror Coat combination - having Wobuffet's opponent stuck in a trap that hurts just themself.

But that's why Dimitri has Gremlin on the scene, since Rattata are all about those Physical attacks. In particular, their strategy will rely on Sucker Punch! With their natural array of moves, Wobuffet can only use Mirror Coat and Counter for the offense... And with Sucker Punch as a Physical and Dark-type move, it evades all of the requirements that those two moves are meant for! If he gets a chance, Gremlin isn't afraid to use Bite or Shadow Ball either, and, should Sabrina attempt to call Wobuffet back, Gremlin isn't afraid of a little Pursuit.

Of course, the very likely scenario is that Wobuffet uses Destiny Bond to link themself to a rat... But in that case, Gremlin will smack them with a U-Turn, and have someone else on the team finish Wobuffet off, right towards the end.

Gabby the Miltank is who rolls out to match up against Espeon! Literally. She literally uses Defense Curl and goes straight into Roll Out.

Listen.... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Of course... It's also probably unlikely that this move alone will be able to take out Espeon, although Dimitri wouldn't exactly object to such a result. That's fine. To keep Espeon trapped in the party, Gabby is full ready to unleash a Whirlpool as well, and Play Rough with her new friend.

If worst comes to worst, she's ready to Endure, but it shouldn't come to that point with a little Milk Drink. If she gets hit with any dangerous Confusion effects, hopefully she'll be able to get her hooves underneath her to ring that Heal Bell!

Now, out of all of Sabrina's team, Dimitri is actually the most concerned about her Gallade... So it might not make any initial sense to send out his lowest level Pokemon, Karimala the Lapras, out to challenge him. However, Dimitri's hope is that Gallade doesn't choose a move that takes her out with a Confusion effect immediately, because he plans on having her play that same game with moves like Confuse Ray and Sing. With Gallade hopefully and momentarily kept out of the way, that's enough time for Karimala to set out a soothing Mist onto the field.

And then... Well, then it's time for the offensive, with her unleashing hell with Hydro Pump. That's the kind of move that can help her get Gallade down to a more manageable health, whereupon Brine is unleashed with no mercy. Ideally, that should be enough to get him down for the count...

But if not, and things are looking so bad that not even Life Dew can fix it (assuming it's not taken out of the equation entirely by Imprison), Karimala isn't afraid to belt out her Perish Song.

This is clearly a couple's battle, because up against Sabrina's matching Gardevoir, it's Karimala's darling Grindy the Kingler who storms onto the field. There's no stopping things here, of course. Ready to use Protect if Dimitri can spot and recognize Gardevoir gearing up for Hypnosis, Grindy is far more interested in starting off aggressive with Razor Shell. It's a set up meant to weaken Gardevoir for the incoming Crabhammer. That Moonblast of hers could definitely be a danger, but hopefully Grindy can use Protect there, too, if they realize it's coming in...

But mostly it's all about that Crabhammer, and maybe a little bit of Flail if he's really in the most tight of spots.

Finishing things up against Alakazam - hopefully - is Gwin the Altaria! And there, well, it's a similar tactic as with Karimala: opening up the battle with Sing, in order to make Alakazam vulnerable to the strongest move Gwin knows, Sky Attack. That level of damage should hopefully end the battle in short order, once Gwin follows up with another move like Dragon Pulse or Moonblast.

Some of these battles are cutting it a bit close, and may take some Pokemon out completely depending on how things play out - mainly Gremlin if Destiny Bond traps him completely, and Karimala's use of Perish Song - so Dimitri doesn't really have a lot of backup options if one of his Pokemon falls early in their battle. If he absolutely must, then he'll use a Pokemon that's battled earlier to try and clean up, so that the others can enter their own fights while still in perfect condition. If that's not an option... He'll use Karimala and Gwin, if they're available, to do another Sing strategy.

But he hopes it doesn't come to that.

Badge/Gym Leader: Whitney... battle of the pinks...
Team: See 'Storage Roster' below. Swapping out Diva (Tsareena) with Salieri (Greninja), and Schubert (Garchomp) with Harmony (Milotic). Please don't make me mess around with the html rn...
Battle Details: Yuzu has spent a lot of time in Goldenrod now... taking a bit of a break from her gym challenge but still training steadily and consistently in the meantime. Still, even with how strong her team has gotten, she has a few recent additions to the crew who she feels deserve their chance to shine.

Yuzu will lead with Salieri to take on Whitney's Girafarig. Being a Dark Type, Salieri has the advantage in being immune to most of what can be thrown at him in this battle, and will focus on a hit-and-run tactic with Night Slash to finish the Girafarig off. He'll also use Spikes to set that up for the rest of the fight.

To deal with Clefable, Yuzu will send out Harmony. She'll lead with Rain Dance, and follow that up with attempts to defeat Whitney's Clefable with Water Type moves such as Hydro Pump and Water Pulse... all while making a note to find a way to deal with Fairy Types in the future. If things start getting a little dicey, she'll use Aqua Ring and Recover to heal up.

Finally... Whitney's Miltank. Perhaps the wariness is unwarranted considering how high the levels of the rest of Yuzu's team is, but... she's heard the warnings. She's sorry, Whitney, but... out comes Mozart the Level 100 Gallade... with an immediate Close Combat.

If Yuzu needs to stick around for a bit to give Whitney a pat on the back or some other form of comfort while she infamously starts to cry, she'll... do that. Provided that it's alright.

Badge/Gym Leader: Lt. Surge for the Thunder badge
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Hoya the Mudsdale (47) holding the Shell Bell
Battle Details: The most difficult part of coming to this gym is resisting the urge to throw a dictionary at Surge's head. The trashcans? Those aren't a puzzle, they're randomized crap! At least Jaskier will be too busy whining to try to even flirt, that's something, right?

Anyway, Hoya the Mudsdale is Jaskier's and Geralt's grandkid and she's here to make those old men proud. She'll be throwing Earthquakes left and right for STAB+weakness damage, only changing to Low Sweep (which Jaskier bought for the occasion) if Magneton decides to get all floaty on her. There isn't much strategy here, because even if she ends up being affected by Static, Surge's Pokémon can't do much damage to her: she's immune to Electric attacks and if they try to hit her with something else, well. Her Stamina ability raises her defense every time she's hit and she's a couple of levels above everyone. Any damage that manages to reach her will be small and healed by the Shell Bell.

Since I don't know if I'm going to be here on the week that he actually is in the area, I'm submitting for Olivine right now (if that's alright) but it won't be official until like around the 14th. I'm already late on Ecruteak so I apologize for doubling up again. Once more, rolling back levels for Ecruteak to the approximate week so the level will be higher on the actual link to the pokemon for some of these, but I listed their levels at the time for whomever has to read this.

P.S. You didn't see me stay up way too late, then forget which Gym I had to plan for.

Character: Shoto Todoroki | [personal profile] heir_conditioned

Badge/Gym Leader: Ecruteak City | Badge: Fog | Leader: Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
1. Kero/Greninja (Level 91)
2. Hojoicha/Sinistea (Level 92)
3. Tofu/Persian (Level 92)
4. Sōgi-ya/Houndoom (Level 55)
5. Unaru/M. Lycanroc (Level 90)
6. Ame/Skitty (Level 52)

Battle Details:
Haunter (L: 45)
Shoto is going to try to trust in the heart of the cards, all while not letting his mostly ghostly buddies take a huge beating with super effective moves. However, that doesn't mean they're sitting this out and his tiny teacup is going to make a reappearance. Sinstea has a few moves that, while he is just as likely to be hit a bit hard, his level is almost 100, it's not going to OHKO him I don't think. However, if he takes too much damage, that means that Greninja is up. Greninja is being given a huge take in a lot of these battles to carry them over. It's not hurt more than normally by some of Haunter's moves and is effective against ghost types with it's own dark type moves. Those will be the main focus of the attacks with Sinstea of course focusing mostly on using Sucker Punch and Ghost moves. Todoroki won't let him take too much damage though. As much as he loves his cup and wants him to battle and be happy, he wants him to live too. He's also a first evo so that puts Sinstea at a disadvantage.

Misdreavus (L: 47)
Houndoom is only a few levels above Misdreavus, that makes this a little more tentative matchup. However, they are a full ghost type and Houndoom is a dark/fire. Paired up with Persian, this is to give Houndoom battling experience since Persian has dark moves but also is a level 100.

Gengar (L: 50)
Lycanroc's dark moves are employed here, and using Skitty's only dark move at least lets them not be touched by majority ghost moves. Not all, but it provides a small bit of backup for Lycanroc despite the level difference. Rock moves damage normally, but Lycanroc's got level advantage.

Greninja and Persian are the fillers where needed in the teams in case of damage, or too low a level to withstand hits. They'll be employed when the HP of his ghosts are too low, or the lower levels are taking too much damage for Todoroki's liking.

Badge/Gym Leader: Olivine City | Badge: Mineral | Leader: Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
1. Kei/Talonflame (Level 100)
2. Fish/Eelektrik (Level 98)
3. Sōgi-ya/Houndoom (Level 63)
4. Choyaku/Cinderace (Level 57)
5. Kero/Greninja (Level 97)
6. Unaru/M. Lycanroc (Level 98)

Skarmory (L: 55)
Talonflame and Eelektrik are air and sea against this. Well, if the sea had levitate and electric moves. Skarmory is weak against Electric and Fire and this duo will be utilizing those things against this pokemon. Their combined levels alone are formidable as they are, but the typing helps just in case.

Magneton (L: 57)
Cinderace and Houndoom are teaming up to try to take down this one. Their levels aren’t going to be like Talonflame and Eelektrik, but if something goes apocalyptic, at least Talonflame or Eelektrik is there to help, too. Houndoom will be relying on its fire while Cinderace has backup if Houndoom can’t finish the job and needs to be pulled.

Steelix (L: 60)
The hardest of the fights for sure for this team is the Steelix, they do have type advantage and level advantage but unless they need to pull those things out of the hat, then Greninja will be focusing mainly water attacks and the Lycanroc with counter when and if their turn is required.
