Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Louie Duck | [personal profile] talkyourwayout
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge/Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: On-hand team; please note that Louie will be primarily relying on Peso (corviknight, lvl 79) and Ha'penny!
Battle Details: This battle takes place the day after Louie finds out Huey's gone, so he's a little off his game. But the idea here is to focus on something else, so his usual sense of strategy isn't ignored, either. Peso focuses on Taunt and the Hone Claws/Drill Peck combo, though Pluck and other attacks will also be used. For Ha'penny, the focus is on Sand Attack and Ancient Power, with Mega Drain used should Ha'penny find himself low on HP. If he needs to bring out Shilling and his Power Gem attack, Louie won't hesitate.

Character: Hawks | [personal profile] feathersfly
Badge/Gym Leader: Whitney, for the Plain Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hawks' roster
Battle Details: Hawks has been doing his legwork as far as reconnaissance goes, and not just for Team Rocket. He's heard tell of Whitney, and the terrors of her Miltank. As such, he's come prepared.

He leads off with Karaage the Honchkrow against Whitney's Girafarig - an incredibly obvious but just as incredibly effective pick, since Karaage is conveniently immune to Girafarig's psychic moves while also having plenty of dark moves to use against that psychic typing. Hawks will kick off the battle with a Sucker Punch, hoping to knock Girafarig out right away between the super-effectiveness and Karaage's level advantage, but should that fail, Night Slash is also nice and reliable.

Hawks also has a great counter-pick for Clefable lined up in Adobo the Corviknight. Nothing fancy here; Adobo will just be slamming Clefable with Steel Wings until it goes down, and most likely shrugging off any damage inflicted. Big steel birds aren't too vulnerable, especially with a level advantage and advantageous typing.

But then, finally...the true terror will surface. Whitney's Miltank. That Rollout is an even more terrifying prospect when most of Hawks' team is weak to rock moves...so he's going to go for blitzkrieg tactics, trying to knock Miltank out before it even gets rolling. (Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.) Not having a Hawlucha or anything else in the way of a dedicated fighting type...all Hawks can do is lean into one of the few fighting-type moves he has access to.

Cue Teriyaki the Braviary, and his Superpower. (The irony of Hawks, a pro hero, relying on a move called Superpower is not lost on him.) It's a calculated risk. Superpower will lower Teriyaki's attack and defense, making him weaker and even more susceptible to attacks from Whitney's Miltank...but it's an incredibly powerful move being unleashed by a pokémon with high attacking potential, with Teriyaki having a considerable level advantage. If he doesn't one-shot the Miltank, then Hawks at least hopes it only takes two hits. If that doesn't work...well, Hawks' only fallback plan is Adobo, and hoping he can tank the hits while cleaning up.

Character: Hawks | [personal profile] feathersfly
Badge/Gym Leader: Morty, for the Fog Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hawks' roster
Battle Details: As it happens, what worked for Whitney will also work for Morty, so Hawks leads off the battle the same way - with Karaage the Honchkrow. Her resistance to ghost moves and Night Slash's super-effectiveness against ghosts makes her a perfect candidate, and Hawks will be leaning on her for all she's worth in this battle. He'll let her carry the fight for as long as she can, or needs to, however many ghosts that means she may take down in the process.

He does, however, have some fallback options. Should she get beleaguered to the point of not being able to sweep Morty's entire team on her own, she's got assistance waiting in the wings(I got a million of 'em, folks). First up as backup is, perhaps surprisingly, Adobo the Corviknight. This may seem like an odd pick, and even odder when he'll spend several rounds of combat just using Hone Claws. But, assuming he's given enough time to set up...that's when he'll break out an old move, remembered all the way from his Rookidee days. Power Trip.

Power Trip is a physical dark-type move...that increases in power based on how much it's user's stats are boosted. And Power Trip is already an attack-raising move...

With enough setup, Adobo could easily sweep if he's not knocked out or incapacitated first.

But if Adobo can't pull through either, there's yet another backup plan! And that's Tempura the Noctowl. She's been demoted to something of a second-stringer lately, and Hawks has done enough research to know she's a slightly risky play due to the Gengar line knowing some dark-type moves...but she is immune to all ghost-type attacks, and her Extrasensory could easily wreck shop.

Morty's team might be able to win a war of attrition against one of these pokémon, but Hawks is confident he can't possibly weather all three.

Character: Claude von Riegan | [personal profile] vrdantwind
Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina, for the Marsh Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Claude's roster
Battle Details: Claude has three dark types that he's never actually used in a gym leader battle before, and it's high time they got a chance to shine. Where better than at a psychic gym?

(He really doesn't need three, since they're all max level and he's only taking on Sabrina's regular team, but there's no reason not to switch out.)

He leads off with Voir the Umbreon, fresh from his contest win! Watching an Umbreon and Espeon face off against each other also just feels right, somehow. Voir will focus on using Bite; entirely aside from his attack being a touch stronger than his special attack, psychic pokémon have a tendency toward strong special defenses and weak physical defenses, and Claude fully intends to take advantage of that. Plus there's the flinch chance! Espeon going down is fairly assured.

When it comes to Mr. Mime, Claude only feels it fair to send in another performer in the shape of Jadoube the Zoroark, who leads with Hone Claws. (While, most likely, Mr. Mime is setting up some non-attacking move of its own, considering how many it has.) While Night Daze is a pretty vicious attack, and characteristic of the Zoroark line, Claude opts against it for this battle for the same reason Voir used Bite earlier - to take advantage of the lower defense stats of psychic pokémon. It's true that Mr. Mime has Dazzling Gleam, which Jadoube is weak to...but with the significant level advantage, Night Slash having a good chance of landing critical hits, and Mr. Mime's weak defenses, it probably won't have much chance to make good on that weakness.

Finally, Alakazam - a truly formidable pokémon. And yet it's a cakewalk for Claude and his dark types; Alakazam doesn't have a single non-psychic attacking move, which renders it completely helpless against Claude's team beyond stalling with Recover and Disable. So Claude sends in Lucena the Liepard; she may not have the most impressive stats or move set, but against a pokémon that literally cannot harm her, that doesn't matter much. Like Jadoube, Lucena will mostly focus on Night Slash to finish Alakazam off - with the critical hits helping to overcome that Recover. But if Alakazam ever Disables her Night Slash...well, then she'll just use Hone Claws until she's ready to start using it again. Between the critical hits and her attack ramping up over time, no amount of stalling will keep Alakazam going for long.

Badge/Gym Leader: Cianwood City | Badge: Storm | Leader: Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
1. Kei/Talonflame (Level 100)
2. Miu/Rookidee (Level 82)
3. Toshiko/Male Meowstic (Level 100)
4. Kasō/Mimikyu (Ditto Outfit) (Level 73)
5. Jibaku/Drifblim (Level 100)
6. Fish/Eelektrik (Level 100)

Hitmonlee (L: 50)
Miu is eternally Todoroki's tiny child of whom he adores. She's a Rookidee which sets against her. Her level doesn't, but definitely being first evo will. Her typing is at least plus stab and while Todoroki hasn't been willing to let her really spread her wings and fly, he's giving in this time to let her participate in the battle. Participate one or two hits and then let Kei take over. Kei also is a flying type, a Talonflame. This battle will be no different, it'll definitely be Kei finishing that battle well before Miu ever gets overwhelmed.

Hitmonchan (L: 52)
Mimikyu and Meowstic, Mimikyu will be using its type advantage against this pokemon considering their levels. They do have the egg move Psychic from their breeder and that'll be utilized along with the other normal moves in their kit. Before too much damage is taken or the poor thing is beaten, Meowstic will come in and take care of whatever hasn't been taken care of by Mimikyu.

Poliwrath (L: 55)
If Mimikyu isn't KO'ed or too battle damaged in Todoroki's opinion, they will make an appearance here to use their bred in abilities of electric moves. If not, Talonflame will be taking first lead to soften things up and teaming up with Toshiko the level 100 Meowstic (male) because I guess Todoroki's got places to be and Hawks to show off to? Between the level 100 Talonflame and the level 100 Meowstic they should be quickly along. Even with the 2x water type disadvantage with Talonflame it still has moves good against fighting and Meowstic is psychic type with psychic moves again good against fighting. There's at least a 2x on each of these for the end battle even without level advantage.

- Should they need an interim, Drifblim will be able to take a few hits for the team and deal out that sweet, sweet type damage as well. It has a couple flying moves to be able to contribute also.

- Fish, who will one day have a better name lol, is an Eelektrik who has some move set type advantage here to help out and their level isn't too shabby either. They will also be called upon if something goes critically wrong for some reason.

It was Thanksgiving here yesterday and so I hope you had a good day, whomever's reading this. Staff or someone else! Take care.

Character: Jaskier | [personal profile] rollstoseduce
Badge/Gym Leader: Misty for the Cascade badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Holly the Oricorio (81) holding the Shell Bell and having taken the yellow nectar to become Electric/Flying
Battle Details: It's hard for Jaskier to make a Top 10 Inventions of the Pokémon Realm but he's quite sure bikinis are pretty high there, so of course Misty's gym is considered wonderful. Is every trainer here getting winked at? You betcha.

Anyway, Holly usually stays in Pa'u form, but since she's Jaskier's highest level Oricorio, he does the same he did for other gyms that needed some lightening: he feeds her yellow nectar and puts in her Pom-pom form for the occasion. Holly will open the three fights the same way, confusing the enemy with Teeter Dance, then going to town with Revelation Dance, which will become Electric-type - this gives it a good combo of STAB+opponent's weakness (plus being much higher in level) for damage. Granted, Holly is weak to Ice-type attacks, but she can heal with Roost, which makes her lose her Flying-type until the end of the turn, meaning she won't be weak to ice for a little while. She also has the Shell Bell and double the levels than Misty's Pokémon, so taken damage shouldn't be enough not to let her finish the battle on her own.

Battle Details: Oh. Rocks. How exciting... not. Geologists weren't excited back in his world either, so Jaskier guesses this another thing that is consistant across realms. At least Brock is handsome? That makes up for something, right? Have a wink, Brock.

Our chosen one today is Euco the enthusiastic Ludicolo, who is ready to dance his way through this battle. He opens with Rain Dance to keep his Rain Dish full and increase the power of his Water-type attacks, then he will Teeter Dance each pile of rocks- I mean, Brock's Pokémon before going to town with Surf, only changing to Giga Drain if he needs to heal. But, y'know, Shell Bell and Rain Dish... yeah, Euco won't see his dance interrupted, thank you very much.

Battle Details:

> vs. Gyarados

Look. Look. Geralt has a Gengar that's level 100 and knows Thunderbolt. There's only one way this ends, and it's with crispy Gyarados.

>vs. Kingdra

For this fight, Geralt's going to send out Scorpion the Galarian Rapidash (84). As a fairy type, he's immune to Dragon-type moves and deals x2 damage with Dazzling Gleam and Fairy Wind. He'll also use Confusion in order to increase the chance that the Kingdra just won't be able to land a hit at all.

>vs. Dragonite

So this fight is going to go in two stages. First, Geralt will send out Vea the Zebstrika (78) for the purposes of using Thunder Wave until the Dragonite has been paralyzed. Once paralyzed, she'll use Volt Switch to swap out with Paczki the Jellicent (80). Paczki's only goal is to land an Ice Beam. Probably just one Ice Beam, because x4 damage is a bitch, but Just. An Ice Beam.

Character: GERALT | [personal profile] lovelybottom
Badge/Gym Leader: MARSH/SABRINA
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Team: The Good Boy
Battle Details:

>vs. Espeon

Since Espeon is weak to dark-type moves and dark-types are immune to psychic-types, Geralt's going to start this off with Eskel the Houndoom (100). He'll use Smog for the poison chance, Leer to decrease Defense, and Howl to raise Attack before Crunching the Espeon into submission. There's probably a cat and dog joke that I can make here, but that's honestly beneath all of us.

>vs. Mr. Mime

Mr. Mime is getting the same dark-type dog treatment. It's 'let's take advantage of this one thing' o'clock, sorry clown man.

>vs. Alakazam

Y'know what? Dark Dog Murder Strategy seems to be working out pretty well here. With an immunity to psychic-type moves, Alakazam is pretty crippled in terms of its offensive output, so like. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Rinse and repeat with the same dark-based strategy that he used on the Espeon and Mr. Mime for the Alakazam. Eskel is a good boy. He will get a treat after sweeping a gym.

Battle Details: Moving your Fire-type gym to an ice cavern? Now that's what Jaskier calls a power move. He'll have hundreds of questions for Blaine, both about this furnished cave and the Cinabar volcano, so hopefully Blaine is in the mood for some nerdy chatter.

Anyway, today's battle will be starred by... what do you mean, you don't see it? Right there, floating in the middle of the cave thanks to Pokémon logic! Yep, the little heart! Hey, no judging. Lampro the Lvudisc may be a loving matchmaker, yes, but he's also a little shit. And he's wearing the ribbon he won at the semper race, because sometimes you just gotta show off. And hey, maybe it works as an intimidation tactic or something. Lampro will start by setting up Rain Dance, in order to active his Swift Swim ability and to decrease the power of Fire-type attacks, then he'll put up Aqua Ring so together with the Shell Bell they may take care of any possible burn damage. After that it's just a matter of spamming Surf. Think you can stop the little fish now it's reached mach speed?

When Connie goes down, if Jasmine's Magneton still needs to be dealt with, Doppio will send out his Wobbuffet first, because he's seen what lightning can do to Gyarados. Mirror Coat and Counter ought to do the trick, but if Magneton is sturdier than expected, he's not above using Destiny Bond when ordered to.

Battle Details: Wow, it's been a while since Doppio's brought his Parasect out! Wait, what's that? He's just going to sweep the Hitmons with Rosso's X-Scissor and then use Cristina to outspeed and fry Poliwrath with an Electric Aura Wheel?... Okay, sure. That's a strategy.

Izuku and Katsuki have been going on a badge circut(tm) run for the last month and a half or so, so I'm submitting for a few badges Izuku would have attempted as they made their way through each city!

Character: Izuku Midoriya | [personal profile] mightdoriya
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain/Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: HERE | TEAM: Lopunny (Mirko), Eevee (Mighty), Tangrowth (Kamui), Charizard (Burnin'), Sylveon (Yon)
Battle Details: Izuku's plan is to have Mirko take on Whitney's Miltank mostly exclusively to try to take it out fast with fighting type moves. Mighty will focus the Girafarig with Bite, and Yon will be brought out to handle the Clefable with Iron Tail. Kamui and Burnin' will be in reserve for extra firepower as well as status afflicting moves to slow the opponent down.

Badge/Gym Leader: Fog/Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: HERE | TEAM: Dusclops (Thirteen), Tangrowth (Kamui), Decidueye (Hawks), Charizard (Burnin'), Sylveon (Yon), Eevee (Mighty)
Battle Details: Since Morty is rocking mostly ghost and/or ghost/poison types, Izuku is going to focus on heading this battle with Kamui to set up status afflictions before carefully bringing out Thirteen and Decidueye one at a time to hit hard with supereffective ghost moves while keeping an eye on them getting hit hard in return. Spirit Shackle will be put to great use here to lock each opponent into battle while Izuku whittles them down. Mighty and Yon both have dig, which will be used for super effective hits against the poison/ghost types. Otherwise, generally the same strategy as he used with Whitney- play to the type advantage with strong Pokemon in reserve for emergencies.

Character: Katsuki Bakugou | [personal profile] apshot

** For pretty much the same reasons as Chi listed above I got two submits.

Badge/Gym Leader: Hive | Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Rapidash | Hot Wings | Fuzz | Bones
Battle Details: Oops all fire types? Well Hot Wings, Fuzz, and Bones are all dual types. They're all plenty strong and do know a variety of fire-based or flying-based moves. It's not that Bakugou wants to curb stomp, but he might have put off doing some badges for a while and just training/traveling. Again, I'm not really good at these things.

Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral | Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Skull | Chandelure | Mouse | Bones
Battle Details: Again, relying heavily on type advantages in this battle. Houndoom and Sandslash are both pretty high level. Houndoom also has Thunder Fang for that pesky Skarmory. Chandelure and Bones are Fire/Ghost so they'll take half damage from attacks as well as have that Fire-type advantage.
