Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner for the Zephyr Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Eddie, Helios, and Beryl
Battle Details: Eddie will be heading the charge here, obviously, due to both type and level advantage. Helios and Beryl are on standby to run interference with status moves and stalling tactics in case Eddie takes some really serious hits.

Badge/Gym Leader: Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Wiglaf (Dedenne L:96), Gigantor (Golurk L:85), Wart (Gallade L:100), Streex (Garchomp L:100)
Battle Details: Dave actually did his homework for this one and asked the people around the MooMoo Farm and Olivine proper what Jasmine's Pokémon are and how to target their weaknesses. While Dedenne aren't the most powerful fighters around, he's banking on Wiglaf's much higher level and type advantage to take out her Skarmory and relying on his Gallade's Fighting-type moves to take out her Magneton. That leaves Golurk and Garchomp's powerful Ground-type moves to wipe out her Steelix.

Badge/Gym Leader: Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Breeze Nuts (Altaria L:97), Ronzoni (Dragonite L:70), Turkey Leg (Braviary L:60), Wiglaf (Dedenne L:96)
Battle Details: In the interest of giving Wart a break after such a grueling battle against Jasmine, Dave's focusing on Chuck's weakness to Flying-types rather than Psychic. He leads with Altaria in order to knock the first Pokémon quickly and then lets his Braviary get some experience in, since he doesn't often have him on hand. Then it's up to Dragonite, with his sturdy build, and Dedenne to take out Poliwrath.

Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner for a Zephyr!
Elite/Regular: Regular Team!
Team: Right here!
Battle Details: Papyrus wants to rely on Thunder Fang and Ice Beam for most of the battle. His frustration with his previous loss and Falkner's utter DISRESPECT for puzzles has him on a bit of a warpath. He feels Herculanum is at a high enough level that he can fall back on him if some critical hits get in.

Character: Mettaton | [personal profile] mttbrandlegs
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: The comments to this post contain his team!
Battle Details: Since Mettaton's pokémon don't have type-advantages, he's trained them for cunning, endurance, and power in this batttle! He'll use Silky as his tank for as long as he can, relying on an opening Bide and then switching to Dragon Breath for possible paralysis and Sp. Attack damage.

If Silky is KO'd, then he'll switch to Blooky, his Shellos, as a buffer, using its generally buffed HP and Sp. Def to help him hang on and pick at Falkner's defenses just long enough...

When Blooky inevitably fails due to his low level, out will come Frisky, his Espurr. Frisky's well rounded statwise and while underleveled at 27, still dishes out strong moves in the Special category (Psyshock and Psybeam). Mettaton will forgo defensive play for an all-out assault at this point in a mad break for victory!!

Mettaton's main focus play here is to KO Falkner's Honchkrow before having to send out Espurr. Things'll go belly-up if he fails, since there's a type disparity there.

battle ready next week, let's do this!! (๑و•̀ω•́)و

Character: Mafuyu Kurosaki | [personal profile] dashdash
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: scroll down to week 7/25/16-7/31/16
Battle Details: Her battle team consists of a Granbull (Burun;lv40), Growlithe (Anko;lv30), Raticate (Kora;lv32), and Dratini (Kao;lv10).
Raticate will be backup for all three battles if needed, chipping away at HP with crunch, hyper fang, and sucker punch.
Growlithe will handle Noctowl since they're the same level, leading with agility to increase speed, fire attacks such as flame burst and flame wheel in the middle of battle, and reversal at low HP for a last-ditch effort to knock out the opponent before she is. This will probably be a close battle since there are no clear dis/advantages on either side, so it's one where Raticate may step in.
Granbull will take on Honchkrow with her intimidate ability lowering its attack on the first turn, and relying on level and type advantage with ice fang and thunder fang. Since Honchkrow has several dark-type attacks which Granbull is resistant to, Mafuyu is expecting her to pull through with a good amount of her HP intact.
Against Pidgeot, Mafuyu will send out her Dratini first and try to get in a thunder wave to paralyze the bird as insurance, before her Pokemon is inevitably knocked out during the next turn. Regardless of if that works, after Dratini is taken down, she'll send out Granbull again to reactivate intimidate, and from there it's a barrage of ice/thunder fangs until the end of the battle.

Character: Alphonse Elric | [personal profile] armoredsoul
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock for the Boulder Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Vulcan, Alder, Beryl, Helios
Battle Details: Al is leading with Vulcan, having the better defensive typing of his two main offensive choices. Liberal use of Scary Face and Bullet Punch here. If Vulcan is taken out, his next choice is Alder; rather than tanking through hits, he's aiming for a quick end to each fight with the STAB-boosted grass-type attacks. Beryl and Helios are here on standby, Helios being the very last resort should all else fail.

Character: Envy | [personal profile] exeggutorhead
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock for the Boulder Badge!
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: Chimera, Juliet, Izumi, Samus, Aristaios, Leah
Battle Details: Envy's going to be relying heavily on type advantages and speed here, and he's going to be trying to cover every kind of type advantage against Rock that he can in case there are move surprises from Brock's team. He'll be leading with Izumi, his most aggressive fighter. If she goes down due to her flying type, then the next is Juliet who's faster and sneakier. Aristaios/Izumi and Samus would be his go-tos against Kabutops and Omastar. Leah and Chimera are mainly his backups in case the others go down, since they're both heavy hitters with a Ground type advantage and some water-type moves.

[personal profile] foolishwren 2016-08-02 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Heather Mason | [personal profile] foolishwren
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock / the Boulderbadge
Elite/Regular: Elite!
Team: Here!
Battle Details: HEATHER WILL BE BRINGING: Godzilla (Feraligatr), Val Jr. (Hitmonchan), Alessa (Absol), Carousel (Rapidash), Sunny (Togekiss), and Arty (Furret), all level 100!

When it comes to fighting Rock types, Heather's frontrunners are naturally going to be Godzilla and Val, her resident Water and Fighting types. Zilla in particular, she's hoping will be able to hold his own through most of the battle with his tough, super-effective attacks.

But she doesn't feel safe bringing two Pokemon to a full team of Level 100's, so Alessa with her Superpower attack is third in the line-up.

After that, her final three are largely there in case worst comes to worst and her first three are knocked out of the battle. That's not to say there was no strategy in her choices, though-- Carousel and Sunny, despite being vulnerable to Rock attacks, both know Sunny Day and Solar Beam. In a pinch, Heather will bank on Carousel's high speed to set up Sunny Day and allow both her and Sunny to pummel Brock's Rock/Ground and Rock/Water types with quadruple-effective rays of sunlight.

... Aaaaand Arty's there if shit hits the fan and nothing but a pissed-off ferret spamming Surf will save the day.

Badge/Gym Leader: Morty for the Fog Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: General roster, but starring Wrecks, Amy, and Angel
Battle Details: Operation: Bite Everything. No, seriously, he's going to have Wrecks bite all the ghosts possible. Should he go down, Amy can come in to clean up with Hyper Beam and Angel with Moonblast. Regal (his Braviary), Bruce (his Noivern), and Pamela (his Clawitzer) are available for general cleanup, but hopefully it won't come down to them.

... He doesn't have anything that's super great for ghosts, unfortunately.

Team: Noko, Komajiro, Chairo
Battle Details: Komasan's starting with his own normal-type because why not? If Noko can't flinch hax her way to victory, there's Komajiro who can sponge Clefable's fairy-type moves and use crunch against Girafarig, or Chairo who's just an awesome Pokemon in general. They are all at level 100.

Battle Details: Jigglypuff will try to Double Slap her way to victory after putting Falkner's pokemon to sleep with her Sing. If sheer slapping won't be enough to take any of them down, she'll use a similar strategy but with Chatot: Sing first, Chatter later. If singing won't get her the badge, she has an ace up her sleeve, namely her Pikachu and Lapras that would use their electric and ice moves respectively. Eevee is just...sorta here, ready to Quick Attack/Tackle anything.

[personal profile] hashtagafreakingghost 2016-08-15 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Ashley | [personal profile] hashtagafreakingghost
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Beatrix (Nidoqueen, lvl 35), Jadis (Froslass, lvl 42), Arwen (Sylveon, lvl 46), Bram (Crobat, lvl 56)
Battle Details: SO LET'S PRETEND THIS BATTLE HAPPENED LIKE LAST WEEK OOPS

This is usually where I do a detailed blow-by-blow of the battle but I've been on hiatus for a month so please take pity on me. BASICALLY Ashley thinks that this battle will be easier than it is and brings in an under-leveled Nidoqueen! She's got some nice Fighting moves, so this'll be a breeze hahaha no, Girafarig is a problem and Ashley immediately just calls her back and resorts to some old faithful favorites, meaning Arwen (her Sylveon), Bram (her Crobat), and Jadis (her Froslass). Switching between the bunch of them, especially Jadis when she remembers the whole Normal-attacks-don't-effect-Ghosts thing. She'll bring Beatrix the Nidoqueen back out to try and give some of her honor back against Clefable, but basically it's those three entirely, with a heavy emphasis on poisoning for Miltank.
