Shiny Requests

You're hoofing it down the road with nothing but your backpack and your trusty team. Night is falling and it's just about time to make camp. Your mouth is already watering thinking of the hot dogs you brought with you, and judging by the way your Pokemon keep looking up at you expectantly as they walk, they're thinking of the exact same thing. One campfire later, you're all enjoying dinner under the stars.
The grass nearby rustles. You sit up to pay attention, but you're not too worried. You're familiar with all the wild Pokemon in this area and there's nothing too gnarly-- but wait a minute.
What's that sparkling on the edge of the fire-light? It looks like a species you recognize, but it's... different...
You may remove sections which do not apply (i.e. if you’re doing a completely random roll, you don’t need the location-based details or breeding details; if you’re doing a location-based roll, you don’t need the breeding details).
FAQ:
What are shinies?
Shiny Pokemon are extremely rare color morphs (sort of the fantasy equivalent of albino or melanistic animals), usually sporting a sparkly luster to their coat, scales, or skin! Some colorations are more dramatic than others; some species go from yellow to radioactive green, while others are nearly impossible to tell apart from their normal counterparts outside of the glitter!
How does this work?
For each request, you may pick from one of three options:
- Completely random: mods will roll for a completely random shiny (excluding Legendaries, etc)! IC, you may assume your character got an egg from an NPC, or (as a Rocket) stole an NPC’s Pokemon, or something else unusual happened.
- Location-based: mods will use an algorithm to determine what Pokemon the character will run into, based on the rarities of those available in the area! This is a good way to slightly restrict your options if you’d like it to be less random, or if you want the flavor of the area your character is currently visiting.
- Breeding (only available to characters with Character Class Ranking of at least Ultra): mods will roll for a species of egg based on the two parent Pokemon. This is a good way to really restrict your options if you’re going for something specific, but you must have the appropriate parents available.
What's up with those proofs?
As of September 2025, Shinies are a reward for activity rather than being locked to a certain character class! As such, you will need to provide proof of activity.
For all of these proofs, we're not requiring specific amounts of comments or comment lengths; we mostly care that a thread has something meaningful occur. (The interaction should not be forgotten by the characters immediately afterward!) But as a general rule, threads with only two comments/where all responses are five words long won't fly.
In addition, proofs must be threads that were started or primarily tagged within the last 4 months. (If you happened to start a thread just over 4 months ago, but 99% of the tags are within the last 4 months, that's fine - but the vast majority should be recent.)
Here are the possible types of proofs:
- A thread with someone new to the game (in game for less than 4 months).
- A thread with a character your character has never interacted with before.
- A thread on a player plot.
- Your own top level on a mod plot/event, which had threads with at least two people.
- Three separate threads on a mod plot/event. (This counts as one proof.)
- Your own log or network post, which had threads with at least two people.
You will need 3 proofs from this list, all of which should be different threads. (If a thread is on a player plot, and is also with someone new to the game, you will not be able to submit it as 2 proofs; you will have to choose one.)
Alternatively, there are three more ways to earn a shiny:
- If you ran a game-wide player plot (something large enough to submit to the mods), then that will qualify for 3 proofs all by itself! It can also have been run at any point within the last year. (You can’t submit the same player plot more than once, though!)
- If your character has ranked up in Character Class Ranking and a reward listed is “1 free shiny roll”, your accepted rank up comment will qualify for 3 proofs all by itself! You can also submit for it at any point after the fact, no matter how long it has been. (You can’t submit the same rank up more than once, though!)
- Sometimes, a mod-run event will reward characters with shinies.
How often can I request a shiny?
You may make a request once every four months!
One exception: if your character has ranked up in Character Class Rankings and you are rolling for your “1 free shiny roll” reward. You may do this even if you made a request less than 4 months ago, and it will not reset your current 4 month “timer.”
Shinies obtained from mod-run events will also not reset this "timer."
Why can't we pick a wild shiny?
There are several other ways to obtain a specific shiny (mod-run events will sometimes offer a shiny egg of your choice, or you get to pick a shiny upon your character reaching Master Rank in Character Class Rankings), and we wanted this one to not only reflect a little of the surprise factor from the video games, but also have a chance of introducing shinies into the game's collective Pokemon pool that might not have otherwise occurred to anybody to pick!
Can I ask for a re-roll if I don't like what I got?
No, sorry! Think of this like a Shiny Gachapon-- you never know what you'll get! You may absolutely make your next request in the same location if there was one you really wanted, and we won't give you the same Pokemon twice-- but nothing is guaranteed!
Can my character catch Ragey from the Lake of Rage?
You know, Ragey.
Maybe if they're very, very lucky. But probably not. In fact, almost definitely not.
