    Character
    Name: Varian
    Series: Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure
    Timeline: Post-"Plus Est En Vous"
    Canon Resource Links: Wiki Link

    Personality:
Varian is a gifted boy. He's intelligent and extroverted, and highly gifted in the field of alchemy as well as general mechanics in a form that is very advanced for his time period. He's eager, in everything he does, but particularly when it comes to doing things that he hopes make his father proud. He's very insecure about whether or not his father takes pride in him. In fact, his relationship with Quirin is a huge factor in most aspects of his life. When Varian's own mistakes lead to Quirin getting encased in magical amber, and he was unable to get the help he sought from Rapunzel and the rest of the kingdom of Corona-- Well, things went south, to the point where Varian's increasingly desperate attempts to free his father left him the main villain of the first season. ...He got better, but more on all of that later.

Varian can be cocky. He makes unsafe assumptions while working on his inventions. This is also in part due to his eagerness, once again, to prove that he's good at what he does. For all Varian's cleverness and willingness to socialize, he tends to overlook basic things in both his inventions and his social interactions. Socially, Varian also sometimes gets too excited. He gets excited about things in general, very much so, but the socially he comes on very strong and can get too caught up the potential for science and/or a new friend to rein in his exuberance. The mistakes and miscalculations he makes in his hurry to execute his inventions and help Old Corona village, are also at times made in his haste to make a good impression. That said, after Varian's season 1 villain arc and eventual redemption in season 3, he's gotten better at thinking things through! He's still got shortcomings there, mostly because he's still a teenager, but there are definitely times he has to be the voice of reason among the main cast in that third season.

Now, as far as that villain arc goes: Varian isn't always emotionally stable. When the whole "Quirin trapped in amber" thing happened, he went to Rapunzel for help, turning not just to his homeland's princess, but to a friend. When Rapunzel couldn't take the time to address the situation right away - justifiably, as all of Corona was in serious danger at the time - Varian... Well, he didn't really know how to process that besides as a betrayal. Between the guilt he felt about causing his father's predicament, his complicated relationship with Quirin to begin with, and the fact that he'd probably never had friends before Rapunzel and the gang? It's not surprising that he took it badly, though "unsurprising" doesn't mean "valid".

Also, Varian went a little further than "taking it badly," in all honesty. His attempts to right the perceived injustice were criminal and ruthless. He didn't care who got hurt if it would reunite his family, and this was doubly true as he became increasingly unhinged in the face of his seeming failure to rescue Quirin, and decided that if he couldn't have a family, he could at least have revenge. Varian was stopped and imprisoned for around a year, and evidentially in that time he did come to gain perspective and feel regret, to a degree. Once he escaped prison with the help of other enemies of Corona, who he then teamed up with, a big part of his motive was erasing his mistakes... By literally erasing the memories of his actions for the people of Corona. Ultimately, Rapunzel got through to him and the kid decided he didn't want to continue down the path he was on-- and Quirin was shortly after freed from the amber, which went a long way towards bringing Varian further stability.

He definitely learned a lesson about the kind of person he wanted to be, and didn't want to be, as seen when he tries to talk Cassandra to her senses when she takes on the role of villain later on. Everything he'd gone through left an impact. That said, Varian still has a temper, one that particular flares around issues regarding his father: Namely, when it's realized that Quirin might be a risk to the heroes in the series finale. He doesn't want to talk about it, although it's worth nothing he does come up with a plan for that possibility to keep on the back burner.

Varian can be a goofball, making jokes and doing things like turning his experiments into "sporting events" complete with his own running commentary. He's a good friend, who likes to be helpful and who always tries his best to be understanding of others. He gives everything he does 100% of his efforts. He's very curious about the world around him and loves to learn.

Ultimately, Varian wants to be seen as helpful, even impressive... But mostly just trustworthy and worthwhile. Sure, it takes him a while to find his way towards that, but he does get there in the end! At the age of just sixteen he ends up the Royal Engineer of Corona.

    Character
    Name: Super Sonico
    Series: Super Sonico: The Animation
Timeline: End of episode 12 (the end)
Canon Resource Links: there's the episode guide for the anime and her wiki

Personality: Sonico is a very cheerful girl, usually happy go lucky and enjoys all the little things in life. She uses most of her time either in school, working as a model or at her grandma’s bar, or she spends time with her bandmates, which also are her best friends, Suzu, and Fuuri. When she's not busy, she's at home, with her five cats.

Sonico wants to be a marine biologist in the future, so she's studying the courses needed for it at university. Sadly, her courses are mostly during the morning, and she's not a morning person at all. It's so bad that she can't wake up most mornings. So she sets up four different alarms, and her cats always wake her up asking for breakfast, and yet, she still manages to be late.

She tends to be a bit clumsy when doing things she's not used to, or doing them early in the morning. Like getting the correct classroom when going to class. She tends to do really well in photoshoots, always concentrated in what the photographer tells her to do. When she’s not under the camera’s watch, she ends up not knowing what to do. Sonico is also a very shy girl, even though she models mostly naked all the time. She isn’t good at talking to people, or making herself be heard or noticed with her voice.

That is, unless she’s singing. Sonico is the guitarist and singer to her band, First Astronomical Velocity, and alongside Fuuri and Suzu, they host concerts and shows for their faithful fans. Sonico gains fans everywhere she goes, thanks to her calm nature and comfort around others. Everyone she’s met in her life ends up listening to her sing.

Sonico can be really naive at times. She’s the kind of girl who likes doing things for others, so when someone wants her to do something that’s a bit too skeevy or lewd, she doesn’t really realize it until someone else points it out. She’s still a kind person though, so even when she does realize what’s going on, she still tries to help out the people that asked for her, whether it is help, or a photographer.

She’s a helper, more than anything else. Sonico likes to help people, she wants to make sure the people she meets are happy and have everything they want. She also likes to help animals, like the little cat she found one day, and even though she loves cats, she made sure it went to its family. She tends to overextend herself sometimes, and even though she wants to do everything herself, she ends up relying on her friends to help her.

As busy as she always is, Sonico always makes time for family. She helps out her grandma with her bar whenever she can. Her grandma is a great inspiration for Sonico, because she taught her how to play the guitar, and also how to be confident no matter what. Sonico is always working in her confidence, but she still thanks her grandma for it.

Most people in Sonico’s life teach her something, or inspire her in some way. Her friends always make her happy, and she does everything in her power to do anything for them. Even if it’s weird, like fighting zombies. It’s not only with her friends though, she has inspired her manager, a fellow model, and more than anything, her fans. She taught a writer to never give up on her dreams, all while just telling her about her own dreams.

Sonico’s favourite food is macarons, and she would eat them all the time if she could, but as a model, she has to make sure to be in a good shape at all times. Which she tends to keep by walking and biking anywhere she can. Her clumsiness does get in the way sometimes though, as she almost runs over people on her bicycle when she’s going without looking.

Even though her life is busy and crazy, Sonico always finds time to update her social media, sometimes making mistakes when she doesn’t notice what she writes. Sonico loves what she does, being a model, and a singer, and a guitarist, and she wants to do it forever. She loves the work she does, and she knows it's too difficult for her to keep doing it all. She also knows it’s going to be difficult when she graduates and becomes a marine biologist, but she’s always going to do her best!

One little note! Her headphones are part of her, and they... Don't really matter. Sonico will always ignore everything and anything said about them, but whenever they're pointed out, the person who does it feels inexplicable dread.

Well, that wasn't the most confusing thing of all. The music was.

Also she has a sentient teacup. There's that. She holds the cup up, and inspects it, it looks like one of those pocket monsters people talk about.]

Are you a monster, little teacup?

[The thing inside the cup lifts up and nods, and Sonico coos at it.]

You're super cute! I'm going to call you Ocha. [A pause.] Now we need to start our adventure, the lady in the house said so at least. Shall we?

[Ocha nods once more, and off they go!]

    Character
    Name: Cloud Strife
    Series: Final Fantasy VII
Timeline: Canon point during Crisis Core's final mission in Nibelheim, immediately pre-incident
    Canon Resource Links: here!

Personality: At Cloud's current canon point, he's 16 years old and full of dreams for the future. He desperately wants to become a SOLDIER, but he failed his first attempt and it shattered his already low self-esteem. Still, Cloud is nothing if not stubborn and resilient, and he keeps trying even when his confidence is in the gutter. The same is true of everything he does; he always leaps at the chance to help people out and protect them even if he has little hope of success.

When it comes to his social life, Cloud is awkward and shy, but he's got a snarky streak and is a scrappy little bastard when backed into a corner. Ever since he was a young kid, he's had a bit of an attitude problem and a tendency to get into fights, though it's not that he's particularly aggressive or confrontational; his village hated and shunned him over a traumatic childhood event, and he learned to protect himself by telling himself he didn't want their friendship anyway, so there. On top of that, he's extremely protective by nature and won't hesitate to defend someone he cares about or someone he thinks deserves defending, even when it's a bad idea. His only friend from home, Tifa, says that he's not a people person, and he's willing to admit she's right. He gets self-conscious and flustered easily, and he's prone to getting attached to - or crushing on - people who show him kindness or respect, and people who are badass and heroic. That leads to also being prone to a bit of hero worship when it comes to people he looks up to, but he's never really intimidated by them (or by authority figures in general).

Beneath all the layers of defense mechanisms and terrible self-esteem, though, Cloud is ultimately looking for a place to belong. He wants to fit in and feel useful and be recognized for his accomplishments; it's ingrained in him that he needs to prove he's worthy of others caring about him and regarding him well, and he believes that becoming a military hero and saving people is his path to doing that. Basically, he wants to be the very best, like no one ever was.

    Character
    Name: Valerie "Val" Trout Castillo
Series: Original (she's a Vampire: The Masquerade NPC I made for my current game I'm the storyteller for)
Timeline: After her wife's hand got ripped off by Val's idiot stepson.

Original Character Background: Okay, so I didn't really make up Val's world, so I'm just going to link y'all to the World of Darkness wiki page.

A brief rundown of some very basic concepts in the World of Darkness that we're gonna need for Val's backstory.

-The WoD is basically a grimdark urban fantasy version of the real world, with vampires, mages, fairies, werewolves, etc. I'm ignoring most of the other stuff and focusing on the vampire stuff.
-Most vampires adhere to this concept called the Masquerade, where they make sure the public doesn't know vampires or other supernaturals are real.
-There are three major factions in the modern Western vampire world. The first is the Camarilla, an extremely lawful and bureaucratic vampire government who believes that the Masquerade must be upheld at all costs, and that all vampires must adhere to a rigid hierarchy. Then there's the Anarchs, who rebel against the hierarchy of the Camarilla, but still mostly cling to their humanity and abide by the more common sense rules, like the Masquerade. Finally we've got the Sabbat, a completely batshit insane death cult who rebel entirely against the elder vampires, and who are also preparing for the end of the world when the ancients shall arise from their slumber and eat everyone. Yeah.

Where did vampires come from? No one knows for sure, but this is the leading theory.

Valerie Turner was born in the 1950s as the only child to a set of pretty typical white 1950s parents. She had a WWII vet father who buried himself in his work and did sweet fuck all raising his kid, and a stay at home mom who dealt with her shattered dreams with a fuckton of valium. They also had a pretty rigid set of expectations for their daughter, expectations that Val would chafe at as she grew older. Among them was the fact that Val is one of the biggest lesbians to ever walk upon God's earth, and her parents were chock full of that good old fashioned 1950s homophobia.

Val spent much of her adolescence in a super Christian girl's school, where she frequently skipped classes to do whatever the fuck she wanted, and caused a lot of problems on purpose. When she was 16 her parents had her shipped off to a conversion therapy camp for a bit, so Val set fire to one of the staff buildings and escaped.

Sadly, none of the staff were hurt or killed.

After this, Val continued to skip school and take every opportunity to rebel against her piece of shit parents before she was promptly expelled from school at the age of 17 and tossed into a mental hospital, mostly because that was what you did with marginalized people you didn't want to deal with back then.

She escaped and ran away from home, laying low until she was 18 and there was legally very little her parents could do. Unfortunately there wasn't much a high school dropout with a history like hers could do in terms of careers, so she mostly stuck with low-paying service jobs that she supplemented with petty crime and sex work. But hey, she was surviving, and that was enough.

After a couple of years surviving like this, her parents found her and, in a desperate attempt to assert their control over her, tried to get a court to forcibly take away what autonomy she had.

Val responded by murdering them, but got caught and tossed into yet another mental hospital.

This is where her life ends and simultaneously also takes a dramatic turn, because her doctor was a Malkavian.

Val's doctor, for reasons Val still isn't sure of, turned her into a vampire, then faked her death and brought her into vampire society. Val's city was a Camarilla controlled domain, and she was quickly introduced to the vampire court and introduced to her society.

Not long after, Val also began to have visions of her vampire ancestor Malkav arising from his slumber and eating every one of his descendants. It's not unusual for Malkavians to have premonitions, but just as common is for the Camarilla (at least other clans within the Camarilla) to completely write them off as the ramblings of a madman. Frustrated at this, Val talked to her sire about her visions, and the doctor basically told her to keep them to herself if she wanted to be taken seriously.

This pissed Val off because obviously an ancient vampire awakening to eat everyone is a huge problem.

Frustrated and unsure of where to go, Val's psychic intuition led her to the Sabbat. She asked to join them, and the Sabbat said they'd consider if she proved her conviction by killing her sire.

Her sire was an asshole anyway so she did it, and also drank his blood and devoured his soul.

So the Sabbat let her in.

Sabbat members usually run around in little vampire found families called packs, who are led by a ductus (who guides the pack in secular matters) and a pack priest (who advise in spiritual matters.) Val was a rank and file member in a pack with mostly LGBTQ members for about 20-25 years until she met Dolores, a notorious fighter and Sabbat war hero, at a festival for Sabbat members. Val had been feeling some friction with her pack's leadership for a while, and by the end of the festival her and Dolores had really hit it off, deciding to form a pack together by the time the festival ended.

They gathered together two other members: Billie, a recently turned vampire who was a serial killer in life, Kasia, a and Meathook, a former shovelhead. Dolores served as the ductus for a while, and up until her horrible death that I still haven't fleshed out, Kasia served as the pack's priest.

After about 3 months, Kasia died and Val was the new priest. Her and Dolores were also officially a couple a few months after this.

Then for decades they ran around causing problems for the Camarilla and Anarchs alike. Her pack became pretty infamous for all sorts of murder and other fuckery.

In 2021, Val and her pack traveled to San Antonio to scout ahead of a Sabbat invasion of the city, where they turned a middle aged human financier samed Samantha into a ghoul. Samantha ended up being killed by some Anarchs for political reasons, and a few weeks later, Dolores turned Samantha's son, Nate, into a vampire mostly because she needed a disposable vampire to go around causing problems for the Anarchs.

Which Nate is doing wonderfully, even if he fucking hates Dolores and her pack.

A few weeks after this, Val turned a college student named Aubrey into a vampire, mostly because they needed a fresh set of hands in the pack and they saw some potential in this girl.

After some more packs started to move in on the city, Val and Dolores were involved in an operation to cripple and control the local Nosferatu by kidnapping their ghouls and other  informants. One of these was the best friend of my Nosferatu player, which ended in the rest of the party getting involved in a huge fight with Val's pack. I can't say anyone won, but Dolores' hand got ripped off by a frenzied Nate and Val ended up psychically tormenting three party members with their worst fear.

No one won, both groups went back home to lick their wounds, and Val sent one party member a lot of inflammatory texts for no reason.

Personality: The most important thing about Val is that she always speaks her mind in pretty much every situation, even when what she's thinking is completely bonkers by human standards (and it often is.) this is someone who lives to get a rise out of people and give a proverbial middle finger to anyone she perceives as undeserved authority or part of "the system". She did it when she was alive, and she sure as shit ain't gonna stop now that she's dead. She joined the Sabbat because she wanted to find a freak family that would take her seriously and stick it to the vampire authorities, and Val doesn't really care who gets hurt along the way. While this has some positive sides, such as her calling out a lot of bigoted bullshit, she's also internalized some bullshit herself, such as her not considering humans "people" so much as a source of food and resources. In her mind, sure, maybe she's not always right, but she sure as shit doesn't think she has anything to be ashamed about.

The other thing about Val is that she's a deeply passionate person, about pretty much anything that catches her interest. The problem is that she has very little real capacity to express this in a healthy way. She has a penchant for pranks, but pranks in her view are mostly just code for "absolute bugfuck terror stunts." she loves her wife with the capacity of a thousand suns, but they've both stabbed each other on multiple occasions and Val has openly joked about eating Dolores' vampire son. Of course Dolores also doles out her own sass and stabbings, so maybe these two were made for each other. It's by no means a healthy relationship, but they're happy? Oh my god, Val is absolutely toxic and she's down to trash and burn down everyone who even slightly annoys her.

Despite this high octane toxicity, Val's also got a deeply intellectual side. She speaks four languages, often amuses herself with philosophical debates (even if she absolutely has a smug anime pfp online) and collects texts and relics of vampiric history. She probably would have succeeded academically if she didn't drop out of high school, but I have a feeling that a traditional school environment ain't right for her anyway.

So, what can you expect from Val? If you're not human (or well, formerly not human) and used to high octane weirdness, she might actually be tolerable. Everyone else is gonna wanna get off this wild ride.

Current Characters in Victory Road: Minfilia Warde

    Character
    Name: Fordola Lupis
    Series: Final Fantasy XIV
    Timeline: Post-The Lady of Bliss.
    Canon Resource Links: Fandom;

As a note: Fordola and Minfilia both are from the same canon, but they have not and would not have any reason to interact.

Personality: Fordola, at her current canon point, truly embodies what happens to somebody when they're indoctrinated into the culture of the Garlean Empire. From a young age (after her father was killed by Ala Mhigans), Fordola decided that his ideals - the idea that it was better to join Garlemald then be killed by their own people - were how she would live. That she would rather become one of them then fight with her own people - and that it was better for her people, as well. She holds a single-minded desire to be respected - and to bring Ala Mhigo into the future she sees Garlemald as able to bring it. However, her single-minded loyalty has also eroded her loyalty to her own people - seen as not Ala Mhigan or Garlean.

All of her actions are fueled by but a few princibles. To unite Ala Mhigo under Garlean rule, to be respected, and to have purpose in her life and death. She believes that you cannot bring change without bloodshed, nor will people listen to what is best for them without being the stronger person. She is very, very stubborn, in other words. And hasty, at other times. And lets her anger bubble within, at most times - she is full of hatred, for all the situations she's in. She wants to make the people who've made her suffer pay.

Notably, Fordola is also quite observant. Not quite as observant as when she gets extra abilities a little later on, but she is good at noticing both when people are hiding, and if they're hiding something in their words.

If somebody outranking her, however, commands her to do something? She will barely hesitate. No matter what, she feels that her closest allies and friends would understand why she did anything, up to and including murder. Her life is her path to be what she believes is the best person she can be. (Which, in canon, is a path she needs to discover after she is captured and taken in by the Alliance - but that's not now.)

Oh, also, she's sort-of xenophobic. Not towards people, mind you! But towards the non-humanoid Spoken races of her home world (due to, again, her backstory). She was known not to respect their different cultures - causing issues. Due to everybody being humanized in Victory Road, this will likely come up in situations where heavily intelligent Pokemon are involved.

Victory Road Sample: There were many things that Fordola could have expected. One of them was that she would dream while under. From what little she had studied, people didn't dream while being operated on.

Still. Perhaps it was the stress getting to her. Her failures had made her snap. But if that was the case, there was a lot less hellfire and punishment, and more... work. Part of that work was getting used to the city the base was in - Goldenrod. Busy-work, Fordola assumed, or just something everybody did. She walked with her hands in her pockets, one of them gripping the red and white ball with the creature she'd gotten within. A tool, to do her job. She did not protest getting it, of course. Why bother protesting, when she clearly didn't have a choice?

But - really - a dog with skull-like markings? They were mocking her, weren't they. Figures. The people of this land would mock her, just like everybody else. At least if this land was built on the merit of these cockfights, she wasn't going to get accused of anything untoward.

The other creature she'd gotten also had a skull motif. Perhaps she should lean into it. She'd need a full team of these creatures, she reasoned. Or one of each major element. And she'd need to get them quickly, to be effective.

Perhaps she could prove herself to Team Rocket, and be seen as a loyal member. Then again, this place made Fordola feel quite... prickly.

Perhaps it was because she swore that people had their eyes on her, that they already knew. Quietly pushing her hands deeper into her pockets, Fordola continued to walk forward - before stopping. Ah, somebody in front of her. With a frown, Fordola looked them over.

    "What are you looking at?"

Her thoughts could not be read on her face - no, she seemed almost casual. Well, casually prickly.

    Character
    Name: Machi Tobaye
    Series: Ace Attorney
    Timeline: Post-canon (post AA4)
Canon Resource Links: Wiki ||Case descriptions (The case is GS4 case 3, aka Turnabout Serenade.)

Personality: The 'other half' of Lamiroir--Lamiroir says at one point in the game that she and Machi together are 'Lamiroir,' and in a way this is quite true. Prior to the murder and trial, the two were never separated and had almost a symbiotic relationship--they were always seen together, hand in hand, 'The Siren of the Ballad' and 'the Pixie of the Arpeggio.' He is very devoted to her and still remains so, whether she realises it still or not. On his own, Machi is generally a very smart, gentle boy, but does not do well around people he does not know. In fact, with the exception of Lamiroir (and possibly Daryan), his attitude towards others could best be described as either "indifferent" or "uneasy," depending--at worst, he's actively uncomfortable, visibly nervous and sometimes easily startled; Machi is shy around strangers and hard to get to know because of it. The very first time Apollo meets him, he speaks to Lamiroir in Borginian and excuses himself--she expresses surprise and concern because he would be alone, then explains that Machi "is not good around strangers," and wishes to go out for a breath of fresh air. This sets the tone for all interactions with him to follow--including (or perhaps especially) those in which he is Apollo's client.

Lacking Lamiroir's guidance certainly doesn't help. Despite being fourteen, Machi looks (and in many ways, is) much younger. An exceptionally tiny boy, he's about 4'7" in show heels the heels are canon and weighs at most 80 lbs. His small stature and delayed puberty make him look more like ten than fourteen. But he's somewhat arrested emotionally as well--he was very reliant on Lamiroir in an emotional sense, he still tends to experience his feelings in a childish way: one at a time, instead of the more complex mixed or conflicting emotions that come with maturity. This is especially notable because it stands in such sharp contrast to how jaded his perspective can really be. In many ways, Machi remains a child, but in others, Machi is very much an adult. He's a sharp boy, and though his emotional outlook can be a little simple, he is very, very aware of resource scarcity: money, food... time. Everything is paid for in some way, and no one is more aware of this than Machi Tobaye.

Coming from a world where a lot of people are either fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, Machi is a little bit of both--possibly fifty percent on each side, possibly a little more of one than the other. Either way, he's in significantly more conflict than most and struggles with his actions a lot. Machi sees himself as bad, but refuses to identify himself as such, trying very hard to be the good person Lamiroir wants him to be. He tells lies (a lot) and manipulates others, but is also completely and unnecessarily honest, alternating erratically between the two and creating a very hypocritical (and possibly dangerous) persona in the wake of his conviction. It's not clear whether in his heart Machi is fundamentally bad or good, but it's obvious that whichever of the two manifests depends as much on the people around him as the events he strings together from it... and that there will always be that other part of him as well, just not always demonstrated. For Machi, it's not so much a question of moralities as it is a question of loyalties. He wants to do the right thing. He just doesn't know what the right thing is yet.

Lamiroir alludes to his 'darkness' at the end of case 4-3. Lying and smuggling may only be symptoms of a larger problem. Earlier in the trial, Lamiroir mentions that the darkness she fears isn't the darkness of her vision, but that "the real darkness... lies in my heart. I do not know my past. Perhaps I committed some terrible crime." She continues, "I can think of no other explanation. Why else would an agent of Interpol approach me?" Sadly, the darkness she feared was not in her, but in Machi. He is not as innocent as he seems. The theme of darkness, literal and otherwise, continues through the trial--referenced again and again by Lamiroir, Apollo, and even Valant Gramarye. But it is only at the end that Machi is identified as its bearer. Apollo, upset at having found Machi guilty of a crime (if not the crime of murder), attempts to apologise to Lamiroir, because "Machi was [your] partner on stage! Your friend!" Lamiroir's response is preceded by silence before she finally speaks. "Yes. I thought of him as my own son. Even now, I do. Yet... something got ahold of him. Something evil. I see that. And he must pay for what he has done. Is that not how it should be?" And indeed, it appears to be. Even at the end of the game, when the player's (Apollo and/or Phoenix's) defendants throughout that particular game are revisited--as are a few other characters of note, some good (like Adrian Andrews) and others (like Morgan Fey) less so.) Machi, however, is conspicuously absent; we neither see nor hear any trace of this particular character again after his trial, not even when it is revealed that Trucy and Apollo are Lamiroir's biological children. Now given the courage to pursue surgery for her sight and revealed to be Thalasssa Gramarye, she says "For so long, I thought I was alone... but now I know I have children. Two dear children."

    Where is Machi?

What is Machi, even? What is he to Lamiroir? What is he to anyone?

Cute and shy as he is, he's very troubled, and this translates directly into his actions--he can be a little unpredictable, and even though Machi always knows what he's doing, he almost never makes this information available to others without repeated pressing. At his darkest, Machi can be downright mean, even cruel, and while Machi as a whole tends (and tries) to be forgiving, he's fairly petty and somewhat spiteful besides.

The same arrested development that endows him with childlike good will also leaves him hypersensitive to the actions of others... for both good and ill. And gentle though he is, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Machi's great love is the piano. He directs himself towards music deliberately and often ignores other people in favour of the piano, preferring the company of music to the company of other human beings. Machi himself is very withdrawn and stoic (read: unresponsive to or afraid of dealing with people); however, his playing is far more expressive and emotional, and carries a lot of feeling that he himself could never express. In fact, it could be theorised (possibly incorrectly, possibly not) that he expresses himself through his music rather than through verbal or visual communication--i.e. normal communicative means. Regardless, he's definitely a prodigy.

Ironically, Machi has a problem with facing his problems--he avoids them, runs away, or pretends not to know they're there instead of taking on even simple dilemmas out of fear of doing the wrong thing. He doesn't like confrontation, and violence is something he seeks to avoid. This probably has something to do with the above, as well as his very limited and unusual life experiences, which leave him ill-equipped to deal with certain 'normal' human choices or interactions, let alone unusual and more drastic or complicated situations. His inherent kindness is as much a strength as a weakness here, since it may be taken advantage of--on the flip side of this, his paranoia and self-doubt can prevent him from seeking help when he actually needs it, or making friendships when they are available.

And in part because of the extreme stress and pressure he feels in these situations, he can make the very wrong decision. (See: the entirety of Turnabout Serenade.)

He does become braver and more normal-acting when you get to know him (or rather, he gets to know you and becomes comfortable around you--it helps when he knows what to expect, which takes a while), but his (mis)understandings of things still hold him back, as does his inability to trust other people--or even himself. This, coupled with his perpetual stoicism and sometimes irrationally rigid adherence to rules that may or may not have a bearing on the situation, means that he is sometimes impenetrable--very often right when he needs to be understood the most.

Victory Road Sample: Lying in bed on a low bunk in the Rocket barracks felt surreal. Hardly different from prison, and yet very different. In possibly every way that mattered. It was the ways that it didn't matter that were the same.

The thing about all of this is that it wasn't.... bad. Yes, it was bad, but he was a bad person now. The fact that he had been in jail instead of dead was lucky. A miracle. A chance he had to make the most of. He had to pay for what he did, but in paying for it, he could pay them back by becoming better. He had to pay them back. Lamiroir. Apollo. LeTouse. He had to become better.

That was what he was doing, he'd thought.

    Now, everything had been reversed.

And it... wasn't bad. He did not like to sleep in a dormitory, but it is not objectively worse than sleeping in a jail cell. Or even on an airplane. He didn't like animals very much, but he had also been forced to 'partner' with one in jail. So it was barely different.

The big change was that now he could come and go. Mostly. He did not have to be supervised. He was actually freer than he had been in years.

Was that good? Was this a good thing, or a bad one? To be a 'bad' person and live a better life?

It was riskier, probably. He's not really a stranger to that, though. He's been living a high-risk existence his entire life.

So... not so bad? Maybe? For now, anyway. Yes. For now.

It was not so bad. For now.

That was a conclusion that would let him sleep.

    Character
    Name: Louie Duck
    Series: DuckTales 2017
    Timeline: post-"The Last Adventure"
Canon Resource Links: DuckTales Wiki Page

    Personality:
The series starts with Louie as a child con-artist. He's very clever, especially for his age. As his uncle points out, he can see all the angles of a situation and use that information to best approach it. However, Louie is also very lazy and, especially early on in the series, tends to look for the easy path. He wants to be as wealthy as Scrooge, but he doesn't see himself following the same roads to get there. Working hard? Earning it square? Waiting until he's older? No thank you! Over the course of the series, Louie makes many attempts to get rich quick with low effort schemes - most of which are morally gray, such as going back in a time machine to take treasures that were later lost to time, or teaming up with Goldie O'Gilt as his fake aunt to get ridiculously valuable party favors from the birthday of a peer he can't even stand. Considering what a sharp thinker and bright kid he is, it sure takes Louie a while to realize that he can't just cheat his way to wealth - or at least, that that's not who he wants to be. After nearly losing his family in said time machine scheme and then being hunted by a monster as a result of his love for money, though, Louie learns humility. He still wants to be rich, and he's still lazy, but he becomes willing to put in the work for the money he desires, and to do it with scruples he previously lacked. And now he schemes for good causes, be that saving the world with his family, or helping Donald's band get their big break.

Louie is rather guarded and cynical, at least as children go. This has decreased over the course of the series, but he's still more likely to be suspicious than trusting. He assumes the worst a lot, and the worst tends to scare him - Louie is not brave, though he does feel that "greed beats fear." He doesn't show his emotions very readily, at least, not his more sensitive ones. Generally, Louie is either sporting a laidback attitude or - if he's on a big adventure - panicking about danger. But just because he doesn't like to show his softer side, that doesn't mean it's not there. Quite the contrary, in fact. We get our first big glimpse of Louie being emotional when he and Huey learn that their brother Dewey was keeping secrets about their mother from them. Louie doesn't react angrily to finding out - as Huey does. Instead, he gets quiet and withdrawn - he's been hurt, and he reacts with sadness. And when that mother returns to the boys' lives, it's Louie who struggles the most with the change; unsure how to approach suddenly having a mom.

And his way with words goes beyond being able to talk his way out of trouble, too. As the series progresses, Louie is quite often someone who will offer a heartfelt pep talk to boost someone up, as he does with the other kids in the series finale. He gives support when its needed, and needs the support himself- The season two premiere focused on how Louie wasn't sure how he contributed in the family, and the distress that brought him. It's interesting to note that while Louie is still a schemer in many ways, a search for a magic sword in season three leads to the discovery that his hidden, inner strength is the truth. He may not be inclined towards full honesty, even now, but being sincere can help him shine. Louie may have his sights set on being a successful businessman, and he certainly has a unique skillset that could help him get there one day. But he's also come to be aware that he's not ready to be wealthy, and is ready to take some time just to be a normal preteen now... Even if, in his family, "normal" means something a little different.

Additionally, as Louie is a returning character to the game, here is information on previous character development.

    Canon Resource Links:
    Infinity Train Wiki

    Original Character Background: N/A

    Personality:

The common first impression of Ryan is that he's the life of the party. He's the type of person who draws everyone's attention the moment he walks into a room, but also frequently gets labeled as self-centered or attention-seeking. Either you love him or he's deeply frustrating to be around. He's excitable, talkative, and hates missing out on something fun. He's a real social butterfly, and kind of a weirdo who doesn't seem like he has a care in the world.

Like Min-Gi, he grew up in Powell Lake in Canada (over in BC). They were born on the same day in the same hospital, so their lives have been forever intertwined. Ryan's family is Japanese-Canadian, but they aren't the first generation of Canadians in the family. Little is known about the specific situation but canon makes one thing extremely clear - no one really pays attention to Ryan. All of the Akagi children fight for attention from their parents because their family is too big and there isn't enough to go around. Ryan often talks about how his parents wouldn't notice he's gone missing or how they just don't care about him unless he's "doing something". This also seems to be backed up by his father giving Ryan his van and then choosing to have no further contact with him after graduation.

This has led Ryan to become very self-sufficient, especially in terms of taking care of his emotional needs. He's deeply attached to Min-Gi, the one person in his life that does seem to care about him unconditionally, but the moment Min-Gi ditched him on stage, Ryan considered that to be Min abandoning their dream of touring together and performing. He panicked at the thought of leaving, something Ryan had been very serious about, so Ryan left without him. He felt betrayed, but he felt he had to keep going alone - even if it meant leaving Min behind. Ryan knows how to deal with people who don't care about him - he doesn't. He removes himself from the situation and sprints forward.

This solo tour was a disaster. He had three girlfriends in quick succession (that we know of) who all broke up with him. The final one left with Ryan's van, which he gave to her out of desperation that she might stay. Despite acting as though he has to be self-sufficient and he's the only one who can take care of himself, he does extremely poorly on his own. Left alone, he crashed and burned hard, and had a manic episode where he returned to Powell Lake and tried to get Min to leave with him. He made up a New York show that didn't exist and spent what was most likely the last of his money on two tickets to New York City - and when Min rightfully said no, Ryan stole his keys and ran with them.

From there, after a long story that's more appropriate for a history section, the two of them wound up on the Infinity Train - a place where in order to leave they would have to learn lessons about themselves and improve themselves. Their numbers were synced together - 202 - and went up or down whenever one of them learned something, with the goal being to get to zero. Despite initially being combative with Min, Ryan quickly accepts Min's (incorrect) conclusion that this is all Ryan's own fault, and that the number is only moving up or down because of him. He's guilty about it, and allows Min to smugly "encourage" him even though it's clearly pretty annoying, but it seems natural. He doesn't actually question whether or not it's his fault; he just accepts that he's the one who screwed up and he's the one who needs to fix it. He will still get upset if he feels like he's being treated unfairly, but seems to easily accept blame - as though he expects to have to accept blame, or as though people usually think he's screwed up in one way or another. Min treats him in this moment like he's too stupid to learn basic lessons, and...for the most part, Ryan doesn't actually argue with him. He's upset, but he just lets him yell until Min's ultimately proven wrong.

He has an interesting way of looking at the world. Sometimes he'll blank on words and sub in sound effects and sometimes he'll gesture wildly to get his point across, but he also has a tendency to hang back and listen that goes unnoticed. Often it's read as him being distracted or zoning out, but he does pop back in and show he's been paying attention. He also tends to squash his own emotions down (even when he's very upset) when someone he loves is upset, prioritizing their hurt over his own.

Ultimately this is because under all of that good cheer and silliness? Ryan doesn't actually like himself that much. He'll say he does, but he's very hard on himself when he makes mistakes, and has gone so far as to say that he's garbage, in a way that indicated this was some deep dark secret he was hiding all along. He's impulsive and reckless but when actual (or even perceived) harm has been done, he holds onto the guilt. This can be detrimental to his mental health, as he had a full-on hysterical meltdown and then shutdown because he was coping with the fact that he had a bad thought that could have led to him abandoning Min-Gi. He had an intrusive thought and then beat himself up over it until he broke, as though he actually did something wrong.

Through his train experiences, Ryan ultimately learned that he wasn't just rushing Min-Gi - he was rushing himself. He was so desperate to get started on his dreams and get out of their small town that he left before either of them were ready, as if staying would have meant staying there forever. Despite nearly leaving Min to die (which Min corrects him on - he didn't, it was a bad thought), Min still wanted to play in their band and still wants to go on tour. When Min had the chance to leave on his own, he stayed and waited for Ryan - and Ryan looked more touched by that one promise than anything else in his entire life.

As of Ryan's canon point, Ryan and Min-Gi are on tour in their band Chicken Choice Judy, and while they haven't made it to New York City, they did make it to Utica. By this point, Ryan is much more willing to work together with Min on more than just music, to slow down and wait for him when he needs to. They communicate better than they ever have before, and having someone by his side makes all the difference.

    Victory Road Sample:

Everything happened really fast, and Ryan's head is still kind of spinning.

He woke up in a bedroom that wasn't his, in a house he didn't recognize, greeted by someone who definitely wasn't his mom, only to be hastily ushered out the door with a backpack. She went on about how it was time for him to go on his big journey, and how...proud, she was? She wouldn't listen to any amount of protest though, and soon enough he was on the doorstep with bag in hand, in what might be the tiniest town he's ever seen. Are four buildings even a town? And where is that music coming from?

Knocking on the door doesn't really do any good, so Ryan does the only thing he really can do. He wanders around aimlessly, trying to get his bearings. He does discover a few things though. First is that Min-Gi is not here and no one in town is claiming that he's secretly their son. Second is that this not only isn't home, but it has some of the most goddamn weird animals he's ever seen. And finally...he has one of his own.

Honestly, he doesn't even know what it is. The Pokégear thing calls it a Minun and it keeps saying the word Minun, but it's not like any animal he's ever seen before. It looks more like a cereal mascot, or maybe just a very small person with giant rabbit ears. He learns the hard way not to touch the little dots on its cheeks, but after a small burst of electricity that makes Ryan's hair stand on end, the little guy seems to forgive him.

After a while, Ryan parks himself under a tree to see just what's in his bag. Clothes, soap, camping stuff, more of those little capsule toy things his Minun came out of...and a bento box that makes him pause. He can't remember the last time his real mom packed him a lunch. Maybe grade school? And it was never this...elaborate. Did that lady seriously make this for him? Was it supposed to be for someone else? The rice is even shaped into what he's...pretty sure is supposed to be more pokémon, but his Pokégear apparently doesn't help much if he's scanning food and he doesn't recognize any of them without it.

He spends a while just looking at his lunch and picking at it, feeling a certain way about things that he's trying not to let his brain articulate. His cloud of thought suddenly clears though, when he feels little paws rubbing the top of his head and the buzz of static electricity. Minun apparently climbed right up onto Ryan's shoulder, and is now looking for as much attention as he can get. Ryan laughs and lifts him down, his hair sticking to Minun until he sets him on the ground.

"What's up, Min? You hungry, buddy?"

Ryan says it more like Mihn instead of Mine, but Min seems to responds to it anyway.

    "Min!"

"Alright, alright, yours--" He picks out one of the blue penguins and hands it over. "I...really hope that's made out of stuff you can eat, little dude."

Because he has no idea, but Minun happily nibbles at it so he's just...going to choose to believe this is fine. Probably.

It would be a lot more fine if Min-Gi was with him though. He's got to be around somewhere, right?
