Personality: The son of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica, Paul Atreides is the heir to a powerful royal House. As such, he received specialized training in combat, politics, and other skills he would need when inheriting his father's position as Duke and to survive in the dangerous environment of his universe's politics. As things played out, Paul had to take his father's place far earlier than either of them anticipated when House Atreides was betrayed to its enemies by the Emperor and both Paul and his mother stranded on the harsh desert planet of Arrakis.
As the ducal heir for his House, Paul carries a lot of responsibilities, and is well aware of the expectations that come with that role. He's also become increasingly aware that there's a larger destiny in place for him - and he also knows that it's not an entirely good one. He's uncertain about his role in events, and not entirely happy with it, but pushes forward with what his destiny seems to be.
Paul is highly intelligent, and used to being treated like and keeping pace with his adult mentors in conversation. He's learned to compensate for his relative lack of physical strength with agility, adaptability, and quick thinking. Despite his royal background, he isn't particularly snobby towards others and is respectful to people he comes across and works with, if somewhat distant. There's a more ruthless, fierce streak underneath his calm demeanor that doesn't come out often - unless pushed - but is frightening when it does.
POSITIVES:
+ Paul is smart. He's quick-witted, able to form strategies on relatively short notice, and learn new skills with relatively little prompting from others. He's able to read people and pick up on social cues.
+ He is adaptable to new situations. He actively enjoys learning about and studying new cultures and locations, so it's likely he'll learn how to live in the world of Pokémon relatively fast.
+ Paul has a lot of personal charisma and is a natural leader. It's likely he'll be a very capable trainer once he's properly on his feet, and good at persuading others to follow his lead in an appropriate situation.
+ After everything back in his universe, Paul is difficult to scare. Whatever he sees or has to deal with in the Pokémon world, it's a safe bet that he's seen as bad or worse back home.
NEGATIVES:
- When sufficiently angered, Paul has a surprising and scary ruthless streak. He's not a Rocket, but his pragmatic, occasionally cold way of thinking can sometimes not be so different.
- Paul sometimes overestimates his own control over a situation, and when he does screw up it tends to be very, very bad. In the Pokémon world, he might have too much faith in a strategy or assume he has something in hand when he doesn't.
- As a duke's son, Paul grew up surrounded by palace intrigue and constant danger of assassination. As such, while not rude he tends to be cagey with other people. He can come off as cold and reserved to people he doesn't know.
- At this canonpoint, Paul is still a little unsure of himself as a leader and will be reluctant to step up to the plate in a situation if another, more experienced candidate is available to take charge.
