APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Open!
Applications are checked roughly weekly unless otherwise stated.

  • We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

  • While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!

  • A reminder for those waiting to hear back: Please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

  • Please use the form below to apply! If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the mods.

    Character
    Name: Paul Atreides
    Series: Dune (2021)
    Timeline: Before the first movie
    Canon Resource Links: https://dune.fandom.com/wiki/Paul_Atreides/2021_film

Personality: The son of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica, Paul Atreides is the heir to a powerful royal House. As such, he received specialized training in combat, politics, and other skills he would need when inheriting his father's position as Duke and to survive in the dangerous environment of his universe's politics. As things played out, Paul had to take his father's place far earlier than either of them anticipated when House Atreides was betrayed to its enemies by the Emperor and both Paul and his mother stranded on the harsh desert planet of Arrakis.

As the ducal heir for his House, Paul carries a lot of responsibilities, and is well aware of the expectations that come with that role. He's also become increasingly aware that there's a larger destiny in place for him - and he also knows that it's not an entirely good one. He's uncertain about his role in events, and not entirely happy with it, but pushes forward with what his destiny seems to be.

Paul is highly intelligent, and used to being treated like and keeping pace with his adult mentors in conversation. He's learned to compensate for his relative lack of physical strength with agility, adaptability, and quick thinking. Despite his royal background, he isn't particularly snobby towards others and is respectful to people he comes across and works with, if somewhat distant. There's a more ruthless, fierce streak underneath his calm demeanor that doesn't come out often - unless pushed - but is frightening when it does.

    POSITIVES:

+ Paul is smart. He's quick-witted, able to form strategies on relatively short notice, and learn new skills with relatively little prompting from others. He's able to read people and pick up on social cues.

+ He is adaptable to new situations. He actively enjoys learning about and studying new cultures and locations, so it's likely he'll learn how to live in the world of Pokémon relatively fast.

+ Paul has a lot of personal charisma and is a natural leader. It's likely he'll be a very capable trainer once he's properly on his feet, and good at persuading others to follow his lead in an appropriate situation.

+ After everything back in his universe, Paul is difficult to scare. Whatever he sees or has to deal with in the Pokémon world, it's a safe bet that he's seen as bad or worse back home.

    NEGATIVES:

    - When sufficiently angered, Paul has a surprising and scary ruthless streak. He's not a Rocket, but his pragmatic, occasionally cold way of thinking can sometimes not be so different.

    - Paul sometimes overestimates his own control over a situation, and when he does screw up it tends to be very, very bad. In the Pokémon world, he might have too much faith in a strategy or assume he has something in hand when he doesn't.

    - As a duke's son, Paul grew up surrounded by palace intrigue and constant danger of assassination. As such, while not rude he tends to be cagey with other people. He can come off as cold and reserved to people he doesn't know.

    - At this canonpoint, Paul is still a little unsure of himself as a leader and will be reluctant to step up to the plate in a situation if another, more experienced candidate is available to take charge.

Paul is highly intelligent, and used to being treated like an adult and keeping pace with his adult mentors in conversation. He's learned to compensate for his relative lack of physical strength with agility, adaptability, and quick thinking, and is seen fighting Gurney Halleck in a controlled fight which ends in a draw and is victorious against the seasoned Fremen warrior Jamis in a duel to the death, overpowering Jamis three times before killing him and displaying dominance throughout the fight. Despite his royal background, he isn't particularly snobby towards others and is respectful to people he comes across and works with, if somewhat distant. He is warm and relatively casual towards his adult mentors.

There's a more ruthless, dark streak underneath his calm demeanor that doesn't come out often - unless pushed - but is frightening when it does. This is most prominent when he confronts his mother over distressing images in his visions of the future, angrily using his powers on her and accusing her of making him a freak. While he doesn’t particularly enjoy violence, since he is reluctant to kill Jamis in a duel to the death, gives him several chances to back out, and only goes through with it when it’s clear that Jamis won’t stand down, he will resort to violence when he has to.

Paul has several unusual abilities – he had Mentat training, which contributes to his excellent memory and skill with both learning and recording information, as well as Bene Gesserit training in martial arts and use of The Voice, a special tone of his voice which allows him to control others. He has partial visions of the future, both in the form of dreams and as visions triggered by spice, which both serve as a guide for him and unsettle him. These visions don’t necessarily represent the future as it happens, but serve as images of what could be. Paul feels a strong sense of responsibility for seeing his foreseen destiny through, as well as knowledge that this destiny will not necessarily be a positive one – images of a bloody holy war spreading through the universe in his name haunt him.

    POSITIVES:

+ Paul is smart. He's quick-witted, able to form strategies on relatively short notice, and learn new skills with relatively little prompting from others. In a high-stress situation, he was able to develop a strategy to pilot an ornithopter through a dust storm powerful enough by using the winds to carry the device up to a dust-free zone.

+ Paul is adaptable to new situations. He actively enjoys learning about and studying new cultures and locations; Paul is seen studying holobooks and literature on the native culture and ecology of Arrakis on his family’s arrival. It's likely he'll learn how to live in the world of Pokémon relatively fast through books and observing the local population.

+ Paul is able to keep a cool head in a crisis and doesn’t panic. At multiple points in his canon, such as passing the gom jabbar test and piloting an ornithopter with his mother through a powerful dust storm during an escape, he demonstrates strong control over his emotions and particularly his fear.

+ Paul demonstrates strong loyalty to his friends and loved ones. He was ready to fight beside Duncan Idaho during his sacrifice, was distressed when he was separated for his own safety, and was willing to fight a veteran Fremen warrior in defense of his mother.

    NEGATIVES:

    - When sufficiently angered, Paul has a surprisingly commanding and aggressive streak – highlighted when he confronts his mother after he has a vision of the destructive jihad that will be led in his name in the future.

    - As a duke's son, Paul grew up surrounded by palace intrigue and constant danger of assassination. As such, while not rude he tends to be cagey with other people about information. He can come off as cold and reserved to people he doesn't know or trust.

    - At this canonpoint, Paul is still a little unsure of himself as a leader and will be reluctant to step up to the plate in a situation if another, more experienced candidate is available to take charge. He is seen questioning his own suitability to his father and expresses concern whether he will be able to take on his responsibilities as Duke in the future, and throws out strategies for dealing with the Emperor in conversation with Dr. Kynes that are quickly explained to be impractical and unrealistic.
    - Without access to his visions, Paul will have a harder time orienting himself to the Pokemon world than he would with them.
