We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!

Original Character Background: THIS SECTION IS FOR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS AND CUSTOMIZABLE/SILENT PROTAGONISTS ONLY! In lieu of canon resources, please write for us at minimum 2-3 full paragraphs describing the following for your character:
- Their world (OCs): Is it magic? Medieval? Futuristic? An Earth like ours?
- Their history (OCs and customizable/silent protagonists): What have been the key events in their lives to date? What kind of background do they have?
- For customizable/silent protagonists: How are you justifying your portrayal of the character? What is your in-canon evidence? Please explain how, if your character lacks dialogue or a set background, you determined their history and personality.

Personality: Give us at minimum 2-3 full paragraphs of how you understand your character's personality. Talk about basic characteristics, any major developments over the course of their canon, their motives, their social behavior, strengths and weaknesses, and anything else you can think of that shows off your knowledge of this character.

(For right now, only those three positions are available, whether your character chooses to follow their assigned path or not.)

Samples
RP Sample: The sample must be a thread, with at least five comments from you, that you have made anywhere with this character in the last four months at the canon point you have chosen for said character. Linking to a post or log containing multiple threads will also suffice, as long as at least one of the threads has the required number of comments. This thread sample can be in any format (e.g. network post, prose log, actionspam, Dear Mun post, and so on). While it does not have to be set in Victory Road's setting, you can use a Victory Road test drive thread for this sample, as long as it's a different thread than one used for the second sample below. What we are looking for here is grasp of your character's voice and a sense of how you operate as a role-player. If we feel that the sample provided is not adequate, we reserve the right to ask for another.

Victory Road Sample: This sample must take place in Victory Road's setting and can be EITHER a written post OR another thread if you would prefer not to write a post. The minimum is 300 words for a prose sample, eight sentences for a network post/actionspam sample, or ten comments total (five from you) in an RP sample. What we are looking for here is how the character responds to the Pokéworld's setting. You can also use a Victory Road test drive thread for this sample, but you cannot use the same top-level for the first sample above.

Name: Urianger Augurelt

Timeline: near the end of Shadowbringers, before he sees who fired the shot.

Personality:

As an Archon, Urianger is a wellspring of knowledge. He’s intelligent, the type to actively seek out any and all information he finds interesting, relevant, or of importance. Basically, he's a walking encyclopedia, there to dispense knowledge on a variety of topics. He’s usually sequestered away in seclusion reading ancient tomes or reports, but he doesn’t shy away from in-person investigation either. Before the Warrior of Light fights Ramuh, and despite the possibility of being tempered, Urianger shows up just before the battle to watch and take notes. Even on the First he travels with Ryne, Thancred, and the Warrior of Light to investigate the empty and see if there’s any way to restore Aetheric balance there--something he likely could have assisted with from the sidelines.

He is, by nature and upbringing, an enigmatic individual. Through most of XIV and it’s expansions, Urianger’s face is hidden behind thick goggles and a hood, a way of dress that obscures his expressions. When you first meet him, he comes across as distant and serious. You would expect him to be the type of person that’s serious and studious, with little by way of investment in others. His way of speaking goes hand in hand with how he presents himself, as he leans towards very poetic, flowery speech that borders on cryptic and puzzling.

As mentioned above, he is very verbose when he chooses to speak or when he brings information to the table. However, over the course of the game, you can see a marked change in how intense his way of speaking is. By Shadowbringers, and as he has grown closer to those around him, he very clearly chooses his words more carefully and phrases things so they’re easier to parse. He still uses too many words, many of them ancient, but you can see the effort he puts in to being more understandable to those around him.

Despite the facade he presents others, Urianger is full of passion and compassion for his friends, comrades, and the world at large. He goes above and beyond to not only do what’s right but to be there for those he cares about. He dirties his hands to see two worlds saved, describes the night sky to a dear friend who is unable to see it, comforts Ryne when she’s unsure of herself...the list goes on. The first time you see just how much passion and how much love he has in him is when he’s acting as a double agent, just after sicing the Warrior of Darkness on the Warrior of Light. He feels so much regret that he goes into a long soliloquy about how much his actions have pained him. It’s such a sharp juxtaposition to how he normally acts and presents himself, that it comes at a surprise.

Speaking of acting as a double agent, Urianger is secretive to a fault. He keeps his thoughts close at hand and hides anything that he doesn’t think people need to know. His secrecy doesn’t stop at just information, either. He has on more than one occasion put grand plans into motion that he tells no one about. He has good intentions, and always acts for the greater good regardless how his actions look from the outside. He takes no pleasure in deception, in fact such things weigh very heavily on him, but he doesn’t let those feelings hold him back from action.
