We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!

Original Character Background: THIS SECTION IS FOR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS AND CUSTOMIZABLE/SILENT PROTAGONISTS ONLY! In lieu of canon resources, please write for us at minimum 2-3 full paragraphs describing the following for your character:
- Their world (OCs): Is it magic? Medieval? Futuristic? An Earth like ours?
- Their history (OCs and customizable/silent protagonists): What have been the key events in their lives to date? What kind of background do they have?
- For customizable/silent protagonists: How are you justifying your portrayal of the character? What is your in-canon evidence? Please explain how, if your character lacks dialogue or a set background, you determined their history and personality.

(For right now, only those three positions are available, whether your character chooses to follow their assigned path or not.)

Samples
RP Sample: The sample must be a thread, with at least five comments from you, that you have made anywhere with this character in the last four months at the canon point you have chosen for said character. Linking to a post or log containing multiple threads will also suffice, as long as at least one of the threads has the required number of comments. This thread sample can be in any format (e.g. network post, prose log, actionspam, Dear Mun post, and so on). While it does not have to be set in Victory Road's setting, you can use a Victory Road test drive thread for this sample, as long as it's a different thread than one used for the second sample below. What we are looking for here is grasp of your character's voice and a sense of how you operate as a role-player. If we feel that the sample provided is not adequate, we reserve the right to ask for another.

Victory Road Sample: This sample must take place in Victory Road's setting and can be EITHER a written post OR another thread if you would prefer not to write a post. The minimum is 300 words for a prose sample, eight sentences for a network post/actionspam sample, or ten comments total (five from you) in an RP sample. What we are looking for here is how the character responds to the Pokéworld's setting. You can also use a Victory Road test drive thread for this sample, but you cannot use the same top-level for the first sample above.

Name: Sylvain Jose Gautier
Series: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Timeline: Azure Moon route, like five minutes before the reunion at Garreg Mach

Personality: On the surface, Sylvain is very much carefree and flirtatious, much to the chagrin of those around him. He claims to fall in love with every girl he meets, and others still claim that he has left countless men and women in his wake. He’s the bicycle of Garreg Mach and damn proud of it.

This, of course, is a facade. The truth is that there is a lot of resentment and loathing brewing deep within Sylvain. He considers himself cursed by his crest -- a magical endowment that guaranteed him to be the heir of his family, despite being the younger brother. It subjected him to abuse as a child, and leads him to believe that the bulk of any attempted relationships exist solely because of what Sylvain can give them.

This manifests as a hatred of women, though even Sylvain admits that it’s the easy answer. Considering comments made about fighting like he’s going to die, and the way he refers to himself having ruined his brother’s life, it’s fair to believe that the hatred Sylvain feels is more centered on himself.

Regardless, these behaviors were largely left behind at the tail end of his youth. His outlook on his professor, who he scorned for having a crest and offered to “take” it from them, has largely changed. He’s apologetic for his behavior at this time, and seems to be working toward understanding the depth of his feelings.

Despite his complex feelings toward others, though, Sylvain is fiercely loyal to those he considers his friends. He holds the promise he made Felix to not die without one another close to his chest. He does his best to guide Dimitri when it comes to flirting, and struggles to do right by Ingrid when she chews him out over his careless behavior. He also requests that she stay close to him on the battlefield so that he might protect her.

Despite everything, some of that loyalty even extends to his family -- particularly Miklan. Though Sylvain recounts being nearly killed by his elder brother (thrown into a well and left on a mountainside), he also is the first person to defend him. Frequently, he explains away Miklan’s behavior as being part of the crest system. And though he resents that he’ll have to marry without love and pass along his crest, he has accepted his fate as a studhorse for the Gautier family.

Sylvain is also prone to more soft-hearted moments, in which he does what he can to encourage the growth of others. He does what he can to assure a friend that her writing is good, even as she vehemently denies it and considers throwing him into a fire. Because of the relative age of this character, it can be assumed that Sylvain is disinterested in building her up simply for a romance -- in fact he makes no such attempt to fall into his usual flirtatious role.

Under slightly different circumstances, he also works to build up the confidence of Marianne. Though he started out flirtatious, attempting to coax the young woman out on a date, he became far more determined to encourage her to simply smile. When she once again denies him on going to the local village together, he surrenders with grace and is simply happy to see her smiling.
