(Though there's some argument among themselves about the stalagmite/stalactite dichotomy. Eventually, they give up and are willing to accept both.)

For the item, their guess is that the riddle is asking for a Lure Ball. The riddle talks about a "fruit to be shared, not eaten" one that will ensure you "always have a friend by your side". To "catch the one fit for you". Apricorns, as it turns out, are fruits used to make Pokeballs when they are "tended to by the slow and steady, collected and hollowed anew". There's only one person in this world who can craft Pokeballs from apricorns, and that is good old Kurt himself (slow and steady seeing as how it takes a full day to make one!)...who- as it turns out- lives in the very same location the trio happened to set up their meeting at: Azalea, which is their guess for the location for their riddle!
The reasoning behind the item being a Lure Ball in particular is the last part of the riddle, "Find the one with seawater hue". There's only one apricorn-based Pokeball that's blue, which is the Lure Ball. Never mind the fact that it's just...ALSO blue, itself. An additional point in its favor is the fact that Lure Balls are used to more easily catch Pokemon that can be caught while fishing, and what better to be associated with "seawater"?

They are pretty confident about the fact that they need to go to Sevii Islands. However there is a slight debate on whether the exact location is Pattern Bush or Altering Cave on Outcast Island. They feel like Altering Cave is, like, way too obvious and simple you know?
After a bit of a discussion, they are going to go with Altering Cave.

Well, not entirely incorrect--they seem to agree that the Cerulean Cape is where you need to be. You'll need something from a Pokémon at this location, but Lugia isn't the one.

as exhaustively dissected on my plurkseem to be pointing in that direction!As a side note, Hawks is absolutely going to NERD OUT if he gets to encounter a legendary bird. He may beg Articuno to join his team(which will absolutely not happen, but a bird enthusiast has to try). He might also beg for an extra feather to keep as a souvenir "since we'll have to hand over the other one" before Geralt forcibly covers his mouth. The level of Not Impressed from Articuno will likely be high. All this assumes they're lucky enough to actually encounter Articuno in the flesh(feathers?), though.

(And although the team may not necessarily be able to go up to Articuno and talk to it, it'll definitely regard them with a cold stare before abruptly getting up and flying away. Speaking to trainers is BENEATH IT. But Hawks and his other teammates could definitely find a few extra feathers around...!)
