Otherworlder Battle Tournament

Welcome to the Otherworlder Battle Tournament

This is where you'll be submitting your strategies for the Otherworlder Battle Tournament. Please only submit strategies here. If you have any questions, direct them to our Tournament FAQ.

A small reminder of the rules

  • You will start the battle with the pokemon you put in first place on your submission form.
  • You may only use one held item. If the item is consumable, you may replace it with the same item between matches.
  • There will be no item usage during these battles -- any healing done must come from the pokemon themselves.
  • You may only use moves from the pool you submitted earlier. Deviations from this may lead to a disqualification.
  • Mega-stones are not permitted during this tournament. Your pokemon may also not evolve.
  • If you do not submit your strategy before the deadline, your character will lose.

Initially, all comments on this post will be screened. Once a round has been completed, we will unscreen the strategy comments. Because the matches are not all happening at the same time, it is certainly possible for your character to watch other fights as they go down. As such, in later rounds, you are allowed to use information learned from earlier rounds i.e. if it is apparent in Round 1, that someone's pokemon has a certain ability, you may use that to build your strategy in a later round.

Diosion - Marwak using Focus Energy, then swap out for Gengar. Regardless of who comes out of Rei's team, of if Duosion remains out, Gengar will use Hypnosis. What particular avenue Gengar uses depends on who Rei uses. Gengar's Levitate ability will keep it out of the range of any ground-based attacks, or traps for swapping out pokemon. Its Ghost type moves have an advantage against Duosion's Psychic, and if it is able to put the other pokemon to sleep, then moves like Dream Eater will be more effective, regardless of the other pokemon's type. But for the most part, Shiro will focus on Gengar against Duosion. Dream Eater will also replenish a portion of Gengar's health. In a pinch, or if up against Dedenne, Gengar knows a few poison moves to further inflict lasting damage - Venoshock, and Poison Gas. Should the Hypnosis strategy fail, Gengar will use one of its poison attacks, or even Lick, to cause a status ailment in the opponent. If all else fails... there's Destiny Bond.

Dedenne - Handled by Marowak, hopefully. Ground type moves have the advantage over Electric, but, also, Marowak is immune to them. Relying on the Focus Energy from the very start of the battle, it will rely on moves like Earthquake, or Boomerang against the Electric mouse. In a pinch, Marowak can use Retaliate, and even the HP playing field. Marowak lacks a move that will boost its HP back up, or inflict status conditions, so this may be where Shiro has to use his status healing item - the one Marowak will be holding (Full Heal).

Gastrodon - Handled by Gallade. Using a combination of Light Screen, and Draining Kiss for defense, Shiro will attempt to use Gastrodon's type against it. Gallade knows two Grass type moves, Magical Leaf and Leaf Blade and will be using those to whittle down Gastrodon's HP. The combination of Gallade's defensive moves should be enough to keep its own HP up if need be. Gallade also has the ability Synchronize - so, if Gastrodon, or any other pokemon, inflicts a status ailment on Gallade, the opponent will also be affected. Should Gallade be up against the other two potential opponents, Shiro will use Gallade's ability to Hypnotize, and then whittle down their HP, using similar techniques - albeit without relying on the Grass type moves for Dedenne. He'll use Gallade's other moves, the Psychic, Fairy and Fighting.
