Otherworlder Battle Tournament

Welcome to the Otherworlder Battle Tournament

This is where you'll be submitting your strategies for the Otherworlder Battle Tournament. Please only submit strategies here. If you have any questions, direct them to our Tournament FAQ.

A small reminder of the rules

  • You will start the battle with the pokemon you put in first place on your submission form.
  • You may only use one held item. If the item is consumable, you may replace it with the same item between matches.
  • There will be no item usage during these battles -- any healing done must come from the pokemon themselves.
  • You may only use moves from the pool you submitted earlier. Deviations from this may lead to a disqualification.
  • Mega-stones are not permitted during this tournament. Your pokemon may also not evolve.
  • If you do not submit your strategy before the deadline, your character will lose.

Initially, all comments on this post will be screened. Once a round has been completed, we will unscreen the strategy comments. Because the matches are not all happening at the same time, it is certainly possible for your character to watch other fights as they go down. As such, in later rounds, you are allowed to use information learned from earlier rounds i.e. if it is apparent in Round 1, that someone's pokemon has a certain ability, you may use that to build your strategy in a later round.

why yes i pre-wrote this c:

Minfilia, when she sees she is fighting a champion, is a little intimidated. But she cannot let that get to her - as she leads with her usual strategy. Her Pachirisu will go for Nuzzle - and if it's Gremlin that has an item, and it happens to be a paralysis-recovery item, she'll go for it again. She knows this is dangerous, but she knows paralysis is her best bet. After the condition sticks, Minfilia will be going for a risky switch with Volt Switch.

To her Feraligatr. You see, she's aware that Rattata has a lot of Dark-type moves from the fact that she's seen wild ones using Bite and the such, and while it can likely learn a few electric and grass ones - a lot of Normal-types have varied moves, she thinks it's less risky to go to her ace then to her second set-up Pokemon. After the switch, she'll be going for... Block. That's right, she's hoping to stop a switch to a better counter. She knows her Feraligatr will take hits, but due to training with a Power Band [which raises Defense], she knows that it's Special moves that are more dangerous.

So, what will she do? She will direct her Fetaligatr to go for Agility and then Mud-Slap, Return, and Rock Smash.

(If her Feraligatr faints to the Rattata, she will then use Alisaie to go for Fake Out and Sucker Punch, to try and trip up the rat. She's not going to set up if the Pokemon seems to be weakened already - because if she does, that leaves room for Dark-type moves.)

Now, Altaria. Fluffy dragon. If she still has Feraligatr out, with Agility, she will continue to use the combinaton of Block to stop it from switching, and then Scary Face and Icy Wind to slow it down. Even if she survives the Rattata, Feraligatr would likely be at low HP. At this point, this is when Flail comes out. And if Feraligatr gets hit by status moves? Facade comes out. When she is down to Torrent range, Minfilia will switch to Aqua Tail.

This only works if Altaria can be kept close. If this isn't how it is, Feraligatr will be switched out for her Pachirisu. By this point, Altaria could switch out. But also, Altaria is Very Slow. Did you know? Pachirisu has Electro Ball. Even so, Minfilia will go for the Nuzzle before going for Electro Ball. This, again, is her main strategy.

Notably: she will not be using Sweet Kiss, since she is still not quite the best trainer she could be, and does not know the power of Parafusion as a tactic.

So let's go onto Forretress. Minfilia has not seen one before - and all she can guess is that it's a defensive Pokemon. None of her Pokemon have the moves to be super-effective.

We'll start with her plan.

And that? Is switching in her Meowstic. Now, she's aware it's a bug-type. She's aware that's likely going to hurt her Pokemon. But she has only one goal.

Trick.

She will be using Trick because honestly, most likely? Defensive, has an item to help with it. After that, Light Screen and Reflect. After putting up the screens, she'll be going for Heal Bell if any of her Pokemon are status'd, and then Calm Mind.

However, if Forrestress begins to buff? Switch to Pachirisu, and Nuzzle... and then Super Fang. That's right, she's not going for Electro Ball, she's going for Super Fang and Sweet Kiss. By this point, she'd be fine with her Pachirisu fainting in battle. If Pachirisu is her last Pokemon, however, she will go for Electro Ball.

This is also when she's glad her Feraligatr is still around, if she is. Because after Pachirisu, she'd be using Feraligatr again for Mud-Slap and Flail and Low Kick.

And, once again, Meowstic. Who would go for Calm Mind, Charge Beam, and... well. Extrasensory.

Either way, win or lose, she will be glad she's gotten to try fighting somebody so strong, and will be considering asking him for a battle again once she's trained more.
