Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Ryner is taking October to travel Kanto and get the rest of the badges, because Rose has decided it's finally time. So you'll be hearing a lot from me this month ^^;

Character: Ryner Lute | [personal profile] tearsofademon
Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina/Saffron City/Marsh Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: I need to make a new VR page, but his Route page is pretty much accurate for these purposes.
Battle Details: This gym battle will be taking place today (October 5), and the party he's bringing is Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Jiji the Umbreon, Senna the Volcarona, and Fyn the Gyarados. Ryner doesn't want to have to repeat things, and he figures that the Elite team can handle it, so he hasn't put a rule in place about super effective moves this go-round.

Jiji and Jehra will start the fight out, mostly using their Dark typing to get around the Psychic STAB moves and their Dark-type moves to deal heavy damage. Senna and Glen are also on standby to provide super-effective Bug-type moves, as well as Fire-type moves on Senna's part for Jynx in particular. Fyn has Crunch and a high Attack stat, while Rose... is Rose, and is going to be part of this gym battle because she's Rose. Her main contribution is dual-screens, but if it comes down to her, she's got plenty of elemental attacks and is not afraid to use them.

Badge/Gym Leader: Misty/Cerulean City/Cascade Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: Same link as above
Battle Details: This battle will be taking place on October 8, and Ryner's party consists of Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Ellie the Sawsbuck, Fluffy the Cottonee, and Fyn the Gyarados.

Rose will start this fight off, using dual screens for defenses and Thunderbolt (or Magical Leaf, against Quagsire) for super-effective hits. Glen is there for electric attacks, and Ellie and Fluffy are there for grass attacks, though they won't be sent out against Lapras unless needed. Fyn will rely on her high Attack stat (again) and her non-water moves, unless Rain Dance ends up active in which case Thunder is a useful thing. If Jehra ends up in the fight, he'll mostly use his Dark-type moves, maybe Thunder if Rain Dance is active.

Character: Jane Crocker | [personal profile] cyan_maid
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner for the Zephyr Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Dinah the Audino @ Lv 53, Poirot the Kricketune @ Lv 51, Marnie the Seaking @ Lv 44, August the Braixen @ Lv 31, and Bettina the Crobat @ Lv 27
Battle Details: For Falkner, Jane is going to lead with Bettina and August against his Noctowl; being the lower level 'mons on her roster, she's going to be betting on Bettina poisoning it or August burning it for status effect damage to help in the fight. If either of them survive, they'll serve as backup to Marnie against Falkner's Honchkrow; Marnie's got a few levels on it and neither side has a clear-cut type advantage. Dinah is Jane's ace in the hole for Pidgeot, having a fair amount of levels over it, and given an Audino's relatively tanklike stats, she should be able to take several hits easily. Poirot is at a distinct type disadvantage, and will only be used, if at all, for any status moves he has...or Perish Song, if Jane still has a 'mon that hasn't fainted yet.

Battle Details: Rakka is winging it to some degree. It's only her second gym battle, but she heard that flying types were excellent here, and she's brought a few of those to go up against the gym.

.... All in all, she's pretty sorry, Bugsy.

Elite/Regular: Regular.
Team: Golmore the Level 81 Spinda. Noah the Level 66 Houndoom. Dynast the Level 66 Haxorus. And Vossler the Level 81 Teddiursa.
Battle Details: After much training - mostly getting his Pokemon to respond to hand movements and his so-called Gambits (mostly more hand commands and the such.) He hopes Golmore will mop up, but if the Spinda doesn't? He'll go for his Houndoom next, and then his Haxorus. And his Teddiursa last. During battle, he doesn't tend to talk, only grunting.

...I am so sorry for Falkner.

Battle Details: It's mostly going to be a raw-power curbstomp, but he's planning on taking out That Stupid Milktank with his Gengar by putting Milktank down with Hypnosis to stop it from using Milk Drink, Curse to start whacking away at its health, and Dream Eater to chip at it further and heal up.

Hi again. ^^

Character: Ryner Lute | [personal profile] tearsofademon
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock/Pewter City/Boulder Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: same Route link as last time, everything relevant is there anyway
Battle Details: For my notes, this battle took place on the 18th, because Rose opted to convince Ryner to take a detour to at least go through Mt. Moon since as far as I remember they've never been there, and flight happened on either end, yay logistics. His party du jour is Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Fyn the Gyarados, Fluffy the Cottonee, and Shae the Omastar. Recall that Ryner has not put his no super effective moves rule into play.

...So, um. Brock's type spread is three Rock/Grounds, one pure Rock, and two Rock/Waters. Naturally Fluffy is there to counter the Rock Water fossils especially(starting with some Prankster-sped status moves, because who doesn't love priority Stun Spore and Cotton Guard), though she's good for all of them let's be real here, but Fyn and Shae, both being water types, intend to sweep as best they can with their water moves.

If the Rocks happen to overwhelm the three of them, Rose will clean up with Magical Leaf, with Jehra in the wings to do further neutral cleanup if absolutely needed, but, well, Brock's type spread is kind of sad.

Glen is there as cheerleader, because he is a tiny lightning spider, and will be squashed if he goes in, and he knows it. If somehow even Jehra gets defeated, he'll try to rely on his small size to try to dodge, hope that there's so little cleanup that needs to be done at this point that he can just Hidden Power Ghost his way out of things (electric moves if and only if his adversary is a fossil and therefore not immune), and honestly by this point Ryner would probably be using a Revive anyway. BUT HOPEFULLY THINGS WON'T GET THIS FAR--

Badge/Gym Leader: Blaine/Cinnabar Island/Seafoam Islands/Volcano Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: copypaste
Battle Details: Ryner will be taking this gym on October 25th, unless Octoberplot starts heating up by then, in which case he'll do it as soon as Octoberplot gets resolved (and I'll update with a new date in that case, if only for my notes). His team for this fight is Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Fyn the Gyarados, Shae the Omastar, and Saias the Archaeops.

Fyn is leading this charge once again, trying to sweep as fast as possible with her water-type moves. Saias will help take on most of them with rock moves, while Shae will mostly be in reserve in case Fyn falls and water is needed for Camerupt and Magcargo, but can help out wherever with both water and rock.

Rose will assist in cleanup with Water Pulse if she's needed, with Jehra once again coming in to do further cleanup if he has to with his assortment of slashing moves, none of which are super effective but some of which are neutral. And high crit chance.

Once again, Glen is a cheerleader. If he's absolutely needed for cleanup at the end somehow, again, he'll try and use his small size to his advantage to dodge as best he can, but at that point Ryner would be using a Revive anyway. Hopefully it shouldn't get this far though.

(You may be wondering, Ryner, why are you bringing Glen as a cheerleader for gym battles when you've got more fish in the wings? The answer is, where else should the tinyspider go? In the PC? Rose, Jehra, and Glen are always part of his party. Handicap, maybe, but not a thing that's changing.)

Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge/Whitney (because who cares about getting them in order)
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Jigglypuff (l:63), Chatot (l:57), Eevee (l:45), Altaria (l:35)
Battle Details: As they say, fight fire with fire...it should apply to Pokemon too, right? Kaori will make this a normal Pokemon showdown and show Whitney who's the boss (hopefully). Jigglypuff, as usual, will rely on Sing and put its enemies to sleep so it could Double Slap/Wake-Up Slap them with minimal consequences. If that's not enough, Chatot will try a similar strategy: firstly, it'll make its opponents fall asleep and then it'll attack with Hyper Voice and heal itself with Roost if needed. Poor Eevee who can't sing will use Toxic first and then use its STAB attacks. Altaria probably won't fight much because Kaori just wants to show off her beautiful Pokemon c: Take that, Whitney....

Hi, me again. Continuing the Great Badge Quest, having returned to Kanto by train after warping over to Goldenrod to help fight Team Skull...

Character: Ryner Lute | [personal profile] tearsofademon

Badge/Gym Leader: Erika/Rainbow Badge/Celadon City
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: still the same Route link
Battle Details: This fight is occurring tonight, November 4. Ryner's team consists of Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Gail the Noctowl, Senna the Volcarona, and Ren the Typhlosion.

...The strategy is fairly simple here. Glen, Gail, Senna, and Ren will sweep as best they can. Flying, Fire, and Bug are strong against Grass, after all. And Ryner is still not putting in the no super effectives clause.

Should all four of them fall before Erika's mons do, Rose will step in and clean up with Flamethrower and Ice Beam. (She'd even step willingly into a Poisonpowder should one happen - after all, Magic Guard means it's not going to hurt her, and Poison is far less annoying than Paralysis.) Should even she fall, Jehra will step in and clean up what's left with Aerial Ace and Hidden Power Ice, though this is also where Ryner would start using Revives, because he's not above doing that.

(though he is above Sion's Perish Song strategy, gosh)

Badge/Gym Leader: Lt. Surge/Thunder Badge/Vermilion City
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: boop
Battle Details: This fight is occurring on Monday, November 7. Ryner's team consists of Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Ellie the Sawsbuck, Fluffy the Cottonee, and Senna the Volcarona.

I'm not sure how Ryner has managed to not pick up a Ground type in his six years... but then, he doesn't go catching things, they come to him, so I guess it's on me for not arranging it. But, well, that means that instead of relying on super effective hits and immunities to electricity, his team will be relying on resistances and hitting as hard as they possibly can.

(Well, except Magnezone. Senna is here to blast that mon of steel with fire.)

Grass resists Electric, so Ellie and Fluffy are here as grass types to try and resist those electric hits while getting in hits. Specifically, Fluffy goes first, using Prankster to set up Poisonpowder and Sunny Day, then swapping out if possible to Ellie, who'll spam Solarbeam while Sunny Day is up. Rinse and repeat for each mon in turn, save for Magnezone, who, again, is Senna's prey. Senna also benefits from Sunny Day, being a fire type sun-moth, and will take as much advantage of it as she can with hard-hitting fire.

Next on the list, should those three fall, is Glen, whose own Electric typing gives him resistance too. He'll rely on Bug-type moves to do damage and his small size to avoid as many attacks as he can.

And then hopefully by this point, Rose and Jehra can do clean up, Rose with Hidden Power Dragon, Jehra with his assorted slashes. This is also where Ryner would start with the revives if he needs to.

Last badge! o/ After six years in Johto (anniversary was the first of November). I'm as surprised as you are that he managed to bother to get this far, frankly.

Character: Ryner Lute | [personal profile] tearsofademon
Badge/Gym Leader: Janine/Fuchsia City/Soul Badge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Same link as usual~
Battle Details: This battle will be taking place on Friday, November 11. Ryner's party is Rose the Clefairy, Jehra the Absol, Glen the Joltik, Jiru the Espeon, Shae the Omastar, and Fyn the Gyarados. No Super Effective Clause is not in effect, not that it matters all that much.

So. Poison. There's kind of a reason why this one was saved for last. ...You know, aside from Fuchsia being out of the way and the quest flow being interrupted by Team Skull. Fairies are weak to poison, and Rose isn't Normal-type anymore. As if that's going to intimidate her into sitting this out, of course.

But Glen will start, using Thunderbolt and other Electric moves to take down Crobat quickly, using his small size to avoid as many attacks as he can. After Crobat, he'll repeat as long as he can hold up, using Thunder Wave to paralyze whatever comes out, but he probably won't last all that long, he is a tiny!spider after all. So Jiru will take over after that, using Psychic against everything (except Drapion, she'll switch out for Fyn when facing Drapion) to super effective down as much as she can.

Shae, Fyn, and Jehra will take over after that, relying on their strongest neutral moves (and, in Shae's case, on her poison resistance, thanks Rock typing) to burn things down. Surf (or Ancientpower, in Venomoth's case), Waterfall, Night Slash... And if all three go down... well, that leaves Rose, doesn't it.

I mean. Hopefully by the time everyone else is down any remaining opponent can be taken down quickly with Thunderbolt spam, because she's not gonna just give up. She'll use Moonlight when she needs to. She's immune to status damage thanks to Magic Guard, so she'll probably seek out to be hit by Toxic, but aside from that she'll do her best to dodge every attack she can, because she does know her weakness. But this is also where Ryner's gonna pull out the Revives, especially if she gets to low health.

But everyone's gonna do their very best. It's the final gym, after all, and everyone knows it. The end is in sight! o/

Character: Mettaton | [personal profile] mttbrandlegs
Badge/Gym Leader: Whitney for the Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: My full roster is in the comments! MTT will be bringing along Silky, Frisky, Superstar, Problem, and Blooky.
Battle Details: Mettaton favors a strong offense, as always. His Pokémon are quite high-leveled, so even with type disadvantages, he'll be doing pretty good. Leading with Silky will be easy enough, except when it comes to Whitney's Clefable, at which point MTT will finally learn what dragons are weak against!

If Silky goes down, he'll rally with Frisky and rely on the power of the Psychic type to carry him. If there's any problems, then--well! He'll send out his Problem and try to Hypnosis-Dream Eater his way through!

Superstar and Blooky are his last Pokemon, in case the chips really are down, and he will use power moves all the way, hopefully delaying long enough to snatch a win!

Team: Dinah the Audino @ lv 77, Poirot the Kricketune @ lv 76, Marnie the Seaking @ lv 69, August the Delphox @ lv 56, and Bettina the Crobat @ lv 52
Battle Details: Poirot will be going up against Whitney's Girafarig, which should not be a difficult battle considering that not only does Jane have a type advantage over it, but a clear level advantage over it as well. The same can be said for Bettina against Whitney's Clefable. The Miltank, however, since it's known to be a tricky customer, will face off against Dinah first and foremost, with August and Marnie serving as backup should they be needed. Jane is mostly relying on their level advantage for this one.

Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner for the Zephyr badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: here!
Battle Details: Skarmory is still Eren's strongest pokémon! She resists flying and normal type moves, and she has a move-tutored move that's super-effective (Icy Wind)! Additionally, he has a Gliscor packing both Thunder Fang and Ice Fang. AND... his rotom. I mean. It probably doesn't want to battle, but it could be convinced with enough food. Please leave the pokégear first, though, Rotom. Eren needs that not destroyed.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner, Violet City Gym
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Amadeus the noctowl (lvl 43); Juniper the Skrelp (lvl 37); Bismarck the Metang (lvl 28);
Battle Details:

Armin will start off his battle using Bismarck against Falkner's Noctowl. Bismarck is a little weaker in levels than Noctowl, however he's resistant against normal, flying and psychic attacks, which Armin knows from experience makes up the majority of Noctowl's attacks. At first, Armin will mainly be using zen headbutt and confusion, hoping to either confuse or make Falkner's noctowl flinch. He might even throw in the occasional metal claw hoping for the attack boost. When Bismarck's HP starts getting low, he'll switch to using bullet punch, in order to get the first punch in so to speak, so he can at least do some damage even if he is defeated on that round. Furthermore, knowing that Noctowl knows hypnosis, Armin will be carrying plenty of awakenings to make sure his pokemon won't be sleeping on the job.

If Bismarck makes it through this round, Armin's intention will be to switch him out against Honchkrow, knowing of the metang's weakness to dark moves, but Bismarck, being a rather stubborn douche, will refuse. He'll start off the battle with Miracle eye to make Honchkrow vulnerable to psychic attacks and then go back to spamming confusion and zen headbutt until Bismarck is defeated.

At which point it is time for Juniper to make her gym debut. Armin's strategy for her is to first lower Honchkrow's accuracy by using a good few smokescreens. Once Juniper is sufficiently cloaked in a good screen of smoke, he'll switch to focusing on inducing poison in Falkner's Honchkrow by using poison tail and depending on her poison point ability. Once this has been achieved, he'll switch to using any and all of Juniper's damage dealing moves (safe for poison tail), to chip away at its HP. If the poisoning heals, he'll switch back to trying to inflict that until Honchkrow faints.

Against Falkner's pigeot, Juniper will start out with the same strategy (smoke screen -> poison tail -> damaging moves), but she will drop the smoke screen if it turns out his pigeot has the keen eye ability. Armin is hoping that Juniper will be enough to finish this battle, but if not--

-- Behold Amadeus! Armin knows Amadeus doesn't really have any advantages against Pigeot, being that they are the exact same types, but he hopes Amadeus' higher level will be enough. Amadeus will start out switching between hypnosis and Air slash, hoping to put Pigeon to sleep or to make it flinch. He might even throw in a confusion or two. And if that all doesn't work, there's still uproar to depend on.

Character: Jean Kirschtein | [personal profile] notvaljean
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: the gang
Battle Details: For this battle, Jean is going to center his strategy all around Blitz the bastardly Electrode. Blitz is going to start each battle off with a good couple of screeches (to lower defence), before charging up and using his strongest electric attacks (Spark, Charge beam, Electro ball) Between the double damage from charge and the boost from using STAB moves, he’s hoping this will be a quick fight. Blitz also has the Static ability, so hopefully he’ll end up paralysing his opponents some of the time. Before destroying them.

Should Blitz not be able to finish off all three birds, Jean has Lila as a back-up. She doesn’t really have any advantages against Falkner’s pokemon, but he is hoping her hyper fang attack can chip away the last of their HP.

Fisch the Magikarp will also be present. If Attendance Awards are presented, he will gladly accept one.

Vaporeon - lvl 100 - Precious
Charizard - lvl 100 - Rory
Aegislash - lvl 100 - Teale
Galvantula - lvl 100 - Amber

Battle Details:
Penny's sending out Magneton first, against Dewgong and Lapras. Opening with Electric Terrain, and then using Discharge and Electroball.
Empoleon gets sent out against Mamoswine, starting off with an Aqua Jet and then switching to Surf to try KO'ing Mamoswine. Failing that, she'll switch out for Vaporeon or Charizard and use STAB moves.
Aegislash and Galvantula are there largely as backup.

Badge/Gym Leader: Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Amadeus the Noctowl (lvl 53); Juniper the Skrelp (lvl 46); Bismarck the Metang (lvl 38); Holly the Oddish (lvl 19); Annie the Rowlet (lvl 14); Egg.... the egg.
Battle Details:

With Papyrus confirming that Bugsy uses bug pokemon (shocker!!), Armin is going to try and get through the gym by leaning heavily on Amadeus, hoping his flying type will give him the advantage. To begin off the battle, Amadeus will try one quick round of hypnosis for the chance of his opponent falling asleep (though he won't retry if it fails), before switching to using Air Slash for that nice STAB damage and the chance of flinching. Should the PP of that move run out, he'll switch to using Peck, again for that nice STAB damage.

Should Amadeus' HP get too low, Armin will order him to Roost (thanks Falkner!) so he can regain his HP.

Armin is hoping Amadeus with his STAB moves and HP regenerating will be enough to clear the house, but if not, he'll bring out Juniper. Against Bugsy's first two pokemon, she'll focus on inflicting the poisoned status and chipping away their HP with poison type moves. Against Bugsy's Scizor, knowing that poison is useless, he'll have her use her water type moves. She might not have an advantage with those, but he'll hoping she can just bull on through based on superior level. She'll also try and toss in plenty of smokescreens to lower their accuracy.

Should even Juniper go down, he'll switch to Bismarck. Especially against Scizor, Bismarck's steel and psychic attacks will be useless, so he'll try and get by with Take down and Pursuit.

Armin is really hoping not to need Holly or Annie seeing as they are just small babies. Egg, obviously, is a killer and cannot be unleashed for fear of the damage he will do.

Battle Details: MISCELLANEOUS DETAILS ABOUT YOUR TEAM/CHARACTER THAT'LL HELP YOU IN THIS BATTLE (recommended!) Rakka is... once again going in to this fight feeling a bit over prepared, but she does have some type advantages to take advantage of. With whatever dark type moves she has, she'll work through Girafarig, then deal with Clefable. Somehow. There's not much in the way of type advantage there. Then she'll just try and power through Whitney's miltank.
