Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Tooru Oikawa | [personal profile] grandtrashking
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr / Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Iwa-chan (Luxray) Lv. 34, Kotori (Pidgeotto) Lv. 34, Hikari (Chimecho) Lv. 32, Hana (Fomantis) Lv. 26 (back-up)
Battle Details:
Starting off, Oikawa knows he's going to be in for a rough ride knowing that even though he has a strategy laid out after having observed a few battles in the gym the last time he was in Violet and absolutely underleveled and no match for him, he's got the strats now (or so he so confidently thinks) with what he's confident is a much stronger team.

Noctowl:
For Noctowl, he'll send in Hikari to blast with a few Icy Winds and set up screens as well as be a tricky little thing with Growls, Wraps, Yawns, Confusions, and the like to stall the bird out.

Honchkrow:
Rinse & Repeat like before until Hikari is potentially taken out due to type disadvantages here before sending out Kotori to start up with Sand Attacks, Feather Dances, and Twisters while Roosting between hard hits. Once enough accuracy is lowered, she'll start hitting with Wing Attacks and the occasional Mirror Move.

Pidgeot:
This one he knows he's going to struggle with being just a level or so under and will be going all out with Iwa-chan to zap that poor bird to death as much as he legally can with alternating Charges, Bites, Sparks, Thunder Fangs, and pretty much any move in that move list to just Take That Bird Down.

Should, at any point, Iwa-chan be knocked out, he'll send out any of his team who've yet to be knocked out to finish off the fight with previous strategies listed. Along with Hana if all of them are knocked out during which Oikawa will have her do whatever she can to hang on with Ingrain, Growth, Sweet Scent, and not very effective Leafages or Razor Leafs to finish out the battle.

Character: Eri | [personal profile] candyapplechild
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner for the Zephyr Badge
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Team: https://candyapplechild.dreamwidth.org/1023.html
Battle Details: While Eri is getting picked up by Dimitri, they'll be stopping off at Violet as per Eri's request. She hasn't been interested in gym badges until now... until Ochako left. Now, she wants to give it a try after having watched so many battles before now.

Candy the Applin is fully sitting out this battle, as it only knows Withdraw and Astonish.

Eri will open with Yomi the Doublade, and start off with the first strategy that comes to mind... Swords Dance. Aiming to use it twice and bump up Yomi's attack before going at Falkner's Noctowl with Night Slash, aided by Yomi's No Guard ability to ensure attacks always land. Should this work, she'll stick with Yomi into Falkner's next Pokemon until she thinks that Yomi is getting too tired or if Yomi goes down.

Considering how Honchkrow comes out next, that's rather likely... hence her solution in sending out Cotton the Galarian Rapidash. Seeing as how she's a Fairy-Type, it's the first thing she thinks of... even if she's also a Psychic-Type. She may blunder at first, using a Psychic-Type move that's ineffective against the Dark-Type Honchkrow, but after that she knows better and will focus on attempting to bring Honchkrow down with Fairy Wind.

Finally, to deal with Pidgeot, she'll send out Shadow the Corviknight to attempt to match Pidgeot in the skies, who she believes can take Pidgeot down... and in the worst case scenario, she still has Noodle the Dragonair in the back.

Character: Riz Gukgak | [personal profile] nightyorb
Badge/Gym Leader: Azalea Town / Hive Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: PI the Yungoos (lvl 70); Tisz the Spinarak (lvl 68); Gozgoz the Trubbish (lvl 65); Asfel the Shedinja (lvl 45); Tufsa the Ninjask (lvl 41); Nasha the Joltik (lvl 29)
Held Items: Yungoos, Chesto Berry; Spinarak: Scope Lens; Trubbish: Sitrus Berry; Shedinja, persim berry; Ninjask, Chesto Berry; Joltik, Sitrus Berry;
Battle Details:

Pinsir

To start off against Pinsir, Riz will bring out his Shedinja Asfel.

As a Shedinja, it can only be damaged by Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, or Dark type moves, none of which are normally in Pinsir's move pool. So, unless Bugsy went out of his way to teach Pinsir some additional moves, it should not be able to hit Shedinja at all.

From Riz's end, this battle will simply involve having Shedinja use Arial Ace on each of its turns (and switching to Gust, should that run out) to take advantage of Pinsir's weakness to Flying type moves.

Heracross

Against Heracross, Riz will bring out his Ninjask. As a part Flying type, she has good defences against Heracross' fighting type moves, and she'll also be able to exploit Heracross' flying weakness. Heracross does have one move, Ninjask is weak to (Arial Ace), but Riz is hoping her higher level will mean Tufsa has the HP to withstand a few hits of it.

The battle strategy itself will be pretty straightforward. Riz will have his Ninjask use Arial Ace to target Heracross' Flying weakness. Should he run out of PP for this move, he has Gust as a backup. And as a further back-up, should Ninjask's HP fall steeply, he'll have her use the Rest+Chesto berry combo to replenish it and put her back in the game.

Scizor

Good news, we've made it to Scizor! Bad news is that Scizor is only weak to Fire moves and Riz has exactly none of those. Unfortunately, Scizor is also immune to poison (so much for using Gozgoz or Tisz) and resists normal type attacks. What a horrible bug.

Riz will bring out his Yungoos. As mentioned, Scizor resists Normal type moves, which somewhat limits PI in what he'll be able to use, but Riz is hoping that big level difference will carry them into victory.

Starting off, Riz will have Yungoos use a few Mud Slaps. This is one of its few moves Scizor is not resistant too, and has the added bonus of hopefully lowering its accuracy. Once that has been taken down some, he'll switch to having Yungoos use Bite and Crunch. He'll focus on Bite at first (as that has the possibility to making Scizor flinch) but if his PP on that will run out, it's Crunch time. And due to Yungoos' Strongjaw ability, both these moves will be more powerful.

And as always, Riz has a Chesto berry ready and waiting on Yungoos, so if his HP dips too low, he'll have him use Rest+Chesto.

Final note is that while Riz is hoping to clear Bugsy's pokemon using these three, he is bringing his full party to the fight, and if any of his pokemon goes down unexpectedly, he's got them for back-up.

Character: Crookedkit | [personal profile] stormstar
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Notchpaw, Curlpaw, and Briarpaw
Battle Details: Crookedkit's first Gym challenge...isn't entirely his own plan. He doesn't feel very confident about it, but Notchpaw and his lackeys are chomping at the proverbial bit for a shot at Brock. Notchpaw has proven himself to be quite strong lately, however, so Crookedkit is willing to give it a try.

As for strategy, it reflects several things: the disconnect between Crookedkit and his pokemon, and the way Crookedkit has trained them. He gives hardly any commands during the battle at all, instead allowing his team to battle based on judgments he has apparently taught them to make. All three are extremely aggressive battlers, though they execute their moves in the round-about way of RiverClan, focusing largely on evading damage and unbalancing their opponents. Notchpaw, for one, is quite quick on his feet, and favors Quick Attack and Sucker Punch for evasion while he draws most of his damage from Super Fang. He won't retreat from battle until he faints, and will make sure to fire off one final Endeavor before he does. Curlpaw is a bit sneakier, using Sand Attack and Minimize to play dirty and Bulldozing to dish out damage. And lastly Briarpaw just...well, she does what she loves, which isn't effective at all. Some Agility and Feints will keep Brock's pokemon busy, of course, but no amount of Thunder Shock, Thunder Wave, and Electro Ball is going to do much. No amount of last-ditch direction from Crookedkit is going to dissuade her either, unfortunately, but at least she offers a dazzling capstone of sparks to the finale.
nastyboy: (It is my duty and my pleasure)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-02-14 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd | [personal profile] nastyboy
Badge/Gym Leader: Erika for the Rainbow Badge
Elite/Regular: ELITE
Team: Consisting of Dean the Emboar, Gremlin the Rattata, Ciannwn the Silvally, Windmill the Dragapult, Elshot the Pidgeot, and Fraldariend the Galarian Rapidash
Battle Details: Dimitri has a couple of people he really wants to show off to for this battle - Eri because he wants to encourage her in her own gym endeavors, Byleth because Must Get Professor Praise, and finally Lorenz, who's new to all of this and thus doesn't know that Pokemon battling can be nice and not used to assault him with birds.

So Dimitri decides to start off strong - up against Erika's Shiftry, Dean the Emboar bursts into action.

Almost literally, too. He practically burns straight out of his Pokeball, going right into an immediate Flame Charge up against his opponent. As is often the case with Dean in these elite matches, it's all about the offense here. His strategy is all about not giving Shiftry any quarter, alternating between three moves: Flame Charge, Power Up Punch, and Rock Smash. The advantages given to Dean's speed and attack will hopefully work wonderfully with the last move lowering Shiftry's defenses... already at a disadvantage against fire and fighting.

The biggest concerns against Shiftry, of course, are that he knows a couple of Flying-type moves. That could be a problem against Dean's fighting sub-typing... but hopefully they're not used too offensively or repeatedly. While Shiftry could up his own speed with a Chlorophyll ability and use of Sunny Day, Dimitri is hoping that Erika will think twice about that. After all, Sunny Day would do better for fire types, and Dean isn't afraid to lean in hard with that by utilizing Flamethrower.

Should Erika and Shiftry try to take out Dean completely with an Explosion, there's no need to worry - Dimitri made sure to pick up a Protect TM in Goldenrod for exactly this kind of scenario, and he'll call out to Dean to use it immediately if he spots the tell-tale signs of Explosion.

Dimitri has the world's Pissiest bug in the form of a Forrettress. He can recognize those signs pretty well by now.

Hopefully that Shiftry really doesn't set off a Sunny Day... Dimitri is counting on it to not affect Erika's next pokemon, Jumpluff.

Against that one, he tries to keep Dean out for just a second longer with one last parting Flamethrower. With that done, however, he pulls his companion back immediately, and switches him out for Fraldariend the Galarian Rapidash.

Between a Jumpluff and a Galarian Rapidash, Dimitri knows that the real question is less a matter of doing more damage, but whoever can inflict a negative status onto their opponent first. That's why he has Fraldariend use Psybeam first, in hopes that they can make Jumpluff confused. He'll use that for however long he can, until he either gets the result he wants, or something happens to Fraldariend first.

If they can be so lucky as to confuse Jumpluff first, however... then Dimitri is going to do a bit of showing off, purely for the Lorenz in the audience. So more than a gym battle, he's trying to treat this more as a contest battle.

Or, well. What he's heard of as contest battles. Soy and Riegfried don't really do those, most of the time. Fortunately, it's not hard for Fraldariend to be beautiful with his shimmering mane and the lovely glow of his psychic powers. So while Fairy Wind may not be the strongest of Fraldariend's moves, it's what he uses as he flicks around Jumpluff effortlessly, and slashes his horns straight at his opponent in elegant Psycho Cuts and even a Megahorn or two. If it looks as though his opponnent is snapping out of it, or manages to land a hit on him, Fraldariend recuperates with a warm Heal Pulse the envelopes his body before going at Jumpluff again with a another Psybeam.

And at the rate he uses Dazzling Gleam? The entire gym might end up just absolutely covered in glitter.

Up against Erika's Victreebel, Fraldariend lets loose one last Megahorn before he switches out with Ciannwn the Silvally. As a fire-type based Silvally, she should hopefully do quite well against a Grass and Poison inclined opponent like Victreebel! That's the plan, anyway.

The rest of the plan? Going full throttle, of course. So Ciannwn bursts forward with those long legs of hers, digging her teeth straight into Victreebel with an Ice Fang. There's a chance she may just freeze her opponent, after all... In which case, there's no stopping the Multi-Attack that's going to Victreebel like a truck with its fire typing.

Or, you know. Like a troubled dog the size of a horse.

In the event that Victreebel doesn't fall from that combo, don't worry. Ciannwn is more than fine with making the most god-awful Metal Sound possible, followed up by a rather mean Air Slash. With all of this practically tailored to Victreebel's weaknesses, that ought to take care of them pretty quickly.

Ideally, it should be taken care of so quickly that Ciannwan can stay on the field when Bellossom is sent out. The tactics here are honestly the same as before. Bellossom, after all, has more than a few of those troublesome status moves like Stune Spore, and so someone perfectly made for this gym is best suited for just charging in to decimate the opponent immediately. Dimitri doesn't want it to drag on for long at all.

So second verse, same as the first: Ice Fang, Multi-Attack, and followed up by anything that will hopefully down Bellossom for good. Dimitri isn't afraid of tossing in a Tri-Attack with hopes that it will stun or freeze Bellossom some more.

After this, however, there's no doubt that Ciannwn will be in some rough shape. While her fire typing will make her somewhat resistant to Poison moves, the effects of Toxic can't be underestimated.

Thus, when Roserade is sent forward, Dimitri pulls Ciannwn back, and exchanges her for Windmill the shiny Dragapult.

A Dragapult doesn't naturally have any advantages over a Grass and Poison type like Roserade... But those same typings are at an offensive disadvantage the opposite direction.

This permits some set up, fortunately for Windmill and Dimitri, and that set up starts with an eerily beautiful Dragon Dance that takes him high up into the air. It's a fantastic vantage point for him to Lock On to his target, ensuring that the following Dragon Rush slams right into the delicate rose. This may very well poison Windmill if Erika's Roserade has a Poison Point ability, but, well... Windmill might get poisoned anyway by Poison Sting or Toxic, so you know! Whatever!

Of course, tempting fate is never the best of ideas... So Windmill will pull back after that initial hit and keep his distance as best as possible with Dragon Breath. Roserade has no small amount of healing moves, so the attacks won't cease. If Roserade tries to take a break to heal up with any of them, then Windmill will just take that moment to Lock On again for yet another Dragon Rush.

If that carries Windmill through, then Dimitri will hastily pull him back when Erika sends out her last pokemon - Vileplume. With a couple of fairy-type moves in that one's roster, after all, Windmill as a dragon type won't last. Instead, he sends out the lowest leveled of his team at level 83, Elshot the Pidgeot.

Not that either trainer or Pokemon plan to let a simple little level difference stop them from winning the battle. Quickly picking up a Tailwind from within the gym battlegrounds, Elshot immediately starts to kick up a Sand Attack, again and again. With enough sand in Vileplume's eyes, the level difference won't hit as bad... on account of Vileplum not being able to hit much at all. Even if he's taken a few hits, Elshot can take advantage of Vileplume's mildly blinded state to land and Roost for a hot second.

But there's no rest on the battlefield, not for long. Once he's caught his breath, Elshot is right back up in the air again, and spreading his wings wide... for an immense Hurricane or two.

Even with the level difference, Vileplum will be eating that one pretty badly.

Of course, if throughout the course of all these battles, something starts to go wrong... Dimitri has a back up on hand. It's a backup called Gremlin the Rattata, who is just... so full of TMs. This rat is just more TM than rat at this point.

So if the situation in any of the battles starts to look dire, Dimitri will immediately pull back the main battler of that particular round, and replace them with Gremlin. Gremlin's strategies are pretty simple: Thunderwave to stun his opponent, and then whatever other bastard moves that a rat can throw out. Super Fang for the ridiculous amount of damage a rat's teeth can do? Pluck for the type advantage? There are a lot of options, and Gremlin has just about all of them.

Battle Details: So, Geddoe did this like... the day after the bodyswap event. He was very cranky, had an obvious black eye around his good eye, some signs of light scratches/bruises elsewhere, and generally looking so very D O N E with all this nonsense. Which means he just sent out Zipper and let the overleveled helioptile wreak havoc with electric attacks. Mostly thunder bolt spam, but if Zipper actually takes damage a parabolic charge would get thrown in to heal him back up. He has no plans to use the others, they're too low-leveled anyway. His plan is to take out the birds as quickly and efficiently as possible so that he can get out of town for an overdue change of scenery. There will be no mercy, just relentless thunderbolts.

Sorry, Falkner.

Team: Larvesta LV 37 - Gastrodon LV 38 - Furret LV 46
Battle Details: Iwaizumi is under no delusion that this is going to be tough as he knows he'd at a type disadvantage right from the start, but believes that he and his team are matched enough to whittle down the enemy. With help from Oikawa, he's confident he'll make a dent in the enemies defences. So long as everyone does their best, to the best of their abilities, he has every faith that they could win. And if not, it's a learning and growing experience. He will just come back stronger. And probably with the same team, they'll have something to prove!

Noctowl: He'll send out his Larvesta for this battle. Fire moves and Leech Life will be the play for taking Noctowl down. Flame charge followed by Leech Life and spamming Flame Wheel until the match ends.

Honchkrow: If his Larvesta survives, Leech Life will be the first move made followed by Ember and Flame Wheel. Once it gets too much, he'll swap out for Gastrodoon. Gastrodoon will start with Ancient Power, followed by Water Pulse and Recover. If Gastrodoon falls here, Furret will be subbed in with a Slam followed by Sucker Punch and/or Quick Attack

Pidgeot: Should Gastrodoon have survived the last battle, she will follow the same pattern as the last. Eventually being swapped out for Furret. Furret's first move will be to Rest. Once healed, once more he'll go on the offensive with physical attack moves until the match ends.

Team: Mr. Smith the Skarmory, Volare the Houndoom, Expresso the Liepard, Cannoli the Bewear, Broccole the Eldegoss, and Bacca the Pincurchin
Battle Details: Narancia has a bit of an...odd electric type in Bacca, but he's hoping that his team will be able to help him get that Cascade Badge!

VS. Golduck: Narancia will be opening with Broccole! This could go one of two ways, depending on if that Golduck has any Ice type attacks:
If the Golduck has no Ice attacks, then Narancia will have Broccole spam Leaf Tornado, this time remembering that Synthesis exists for healing if Broccole gets a bit too low health.
If the Golduck does have Ice attacks, then he'll switch out to Bacca and have her spam Spark, with use of Recover if her health gets too low. It'll be a very similar strategy either way, just with different Pokémon and moves.

VS. Lapras: At this point, Narancia will try to mix things up with Cannoli, taking advantage of the Fighting type's advantage against Ice with Hammer Arm. However, in the event that the Lapras turns out to know Psychic or Cannoli starts to struggle, then he'll switch back to Bacca and return to the Spark+Recover strategy mentioned above.

VS. Starmie: He's going to mix it up again, this time with Expresso! The Liepard will open with Fake Out for the free damage, then spam Night Slash. Hopefully this works out, but if not, then he'll send in Mr. Smith to try and finish things up.

Then the fire dog will go all out until he's likely taken out. If/when his Houndoom is taken out, Gyarados will be sent out and use moves such as Dragon Tail and Water Pulse. For Scizor, Corviknight will be sent out and immediately set up with Hone Claws & Leers and just start chipping away with things like Power Trip and any Flying type move in his arsenal.

Battle Details:
Due to circumstances regarding some very poor choices, he does not have a proper type advantage going into the gym. However, he does know he has the level advantage. He will lead with Gabriel, understanding that she has the best chance of survival against all of Bugsy's pokemon. Sandalphon will have her use Misty Terrain in order to set up an advantage, then stick with mainly using Draining Kiss and Dazzling Gleam until he has to set up another Misty Terrain.

In the odd chance he does have to switch out, he sends in Michael, focusing mainly on using Bite, Charge, and Spark if out on the field. Sariel is there mainly for moral support, but on the really off chance that he does have to use the Noivern, he will use Wing Attack and Air Cutter.

Character: Princess Allura | [personal profile] heartofalioness
Badge/Gym Leader: Whitney, Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Glicynia the Galarian Rapidash, Fraldor the Luxray, and Kirlos the Altaria
Battle Details:
First up is Glicynia against Girafarig. On paper, the match-up seems neutral at best, subpar at worst, given Girafarig is resistant to Psychic and only normally affected by Fairy, and has access to Ghost moves Astonish and possibly Shadow Ball that could mess up Glicynia if they hit. But not only does the Rapidash have an experience advantage, she’s a bit sturdier than the Long Neck Pokémon, considerably faster with a higher Attack, and she has a secret weapon… Megahorn! So Allura’s strategy is to take the initiative and just charge in with Megahorn before Girafarig has a chance to retaliate. If Girafarig manages to survive the initial assault and fight back, Glicynia has a Persim berry to ward against confusion, and should be able to endure a hit long enough to attempt another Megahorn, plus or minus a Bounce beforehand to possibly paralyze Girafarig and hold it still for a better shot.

For Clefable, Allura will bring out Fraldor. At first, the typing seems pretty neutral, but Allura chose him for the experience advantage and the resistance to Steel and Electric moves and neutrality to the rest of Cefable’s moveset in case this one is as loaded with TMs as in the games, immunity to paralysis, and a formidable arsenal of attacks. (Not to mention the Nidorina Allura got from Rainer is still VERY spicy...) Fraldor will start off with Light Screen and Flash in order to make it harder for Clefable to land an attack and to cause Special Attacks to do less damage if they do hit. And while Fraldor does excel in physical attacks, Allura doesn’t want to risk Clefable having Cute Charm and have Fraldor be infatuated, so instead the Luxray will attack from a distance with Thunder Wave to cause paralysis and follow it up with Thunder. If Clefairy manages to land anything that’ll cause a non-paralysis status condition, he has a Lum Berry on him that at least should keep Allura out of a loop of healing for a while.

And last but not least, it’s Kirlos versus Miltank! This might seem a bit risky, given that Kirlos is Dragon/Flying going against Miltank’s infamous Rollout, but there’s a reason for this. Agility and Cotton Guard will give him much-needed boosts to Speed and Defense to throw off Miltank's rhythm and to endure her physical attacks. And it’ll be pretty hard for Miltank to use Rollout if Kirlos Sings her to sleep, and she only has the one Lum berry to wake her up again. That sets Kirlos up nicely to hit her with a Hurricane for a powerful Special move with a 30% chance to confuse her, followed by Fly if she’s still standing.

SEVERELY backdated gym challenges don't mind me

[personal profile] feathersfly 2022-03-13 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Hawks | [profile] feathers_fly
Badge/Gym Leader: Chuck, for the Storm Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hawks' roster
Battle Details: Hawks is here to get that sweet, sweet Fly HM, and nothing will stop him. Granted, since Hawks' team is exclusively birds, almost all of which are flying types that are super-effective against fighting types, and over-leveled at that, this isn't even close to a fair match.

Hawks' opening with Tso, his Decidueye, who is a flying/ghost type immune to fighting moves, is borderline disrespectful in how Chuck's slim chances are essentially pared down to none. Not that Hawks behaves disrespectfully in any way; he's entirely professional here. But the choice alone shows that, even with the overwhelming advantages he already has, he's taking no chances whatsoever on not getting this critical HM and isn't looking to waste a second in getting his hands on it. He'll let Tso sweep Chuck's entire team, although of course if Tso did somehow run into any difficulties, there's a whole team of birds still waiting in the wings. (<-- Now this pun is disrespectful)

Character: Hawks | [profile] feathers_fly
Badge/Gym Leader: Jasmine, for the Mineral Badge!
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hawks' roster
Battle Details: Unlike with Chuck, Jasmine's going to be a little trickier, in that steel naturally resists most of the moves Hawks' pokémon have access to. Sure, he's still got a significant level advantage on her regular team, but Hawks still wants to use some strategy here.

He'll lead with Yakitori, his Fearow - who happens to know Drill Run, a ground-type move. That should definitely get him through at least one member of Jasmine's team - possibly more. Then he'll bring out Roast, his Baile Oricorio, whose Revelation Dance is a powerful special (bypassing the high physical defense of steel types) super effective fire-type move. Between the two of them, they should have enough firepower (the puns just keep coming) to take down Jasmine's team of three.

Character: Louie Duck | [personal profile] talkyourwayout
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog/Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: On-hand team, noting that these three Pokemon will be the ones he defaults to using. Someday I'll make the roster images actual links for these things...
Battle Details: First off, this is a little forward-dated! That said, as far as the team's levels and attacks go, I'm of course going with where things currently stand.

Louie's striving for more balance in his roster's levels, but that doesn't mean he's about to go into this under-prepared. It just means his strategy needs to be adapted to the team he's been training up! As such, Louie is taking a Rain Dance team to a Ghost fight.

Cavendish's rain dance along with Tesla's electric terrain will will be set up as soon as possible, with Louie refreshing these effects as needed whenever it's safe. The electric terrain is intended to keep his team awake in the face of any hypnosises, while the rainfall is to allow Cavendish's hurricane attack to be a guaranteed hit, as well as to power up Ruby's already-formidable Crabhammer attack.

Honestly, this gym battle is going to be a bit lighter on strategy than most of Louie's gym battles thus far, and heavier on raw power. He's also putting less emphasis on getting a STAB type advantage-- Though make no mistake, he'll be using Swords Dance-boosted Night Slash and Crunch moves with Ruby, especially if the going gets tough.

And while the type advantage thing is more about working with what he's got in terms of viable Pokemon, the fact that Louie's focusing on stronger attacks - albeit ones he's having his team further power-up - is because he's eager to get this badge obtained ASAP. He's not rushing it, really, but here's the thing: After this defeating this gym, Louie will be hitting the road with a traveling companion! The teen's only had his team to talk to for months now, so he's very happy-- This is relevant to challenging the gym because when Louie sets his mind to getting a task done efficiently, as he has here, he tends to really put in the effort with determination.

Team: Meowstic LV.40, Luxray LV.36, Doublade LV.40, Minccino LV.40 (Backup)
Battle Details:

For Brock To battle Brock, Doublade will be the lead here, while she doesn't know any damaging steel moves, she will be relying on her ghost type moves here, as well as bug type moves to do damage, as she is steel she will be resistant to most of the rock type moves, and Byleth will use her to tank most of the damage. In conjunction with Meowstic dealing psychic damage but also using his stat-debuffing and protection moves to keep the team safe while they whittle down the opponents. Lastly, why would you bring a Minccino to a rock gym? That's because Byleth intends to use her to Sing the rock types to sleep and then deliver a devastating fightin-type Wake-Up Slap after they have been weakened by Meowstic and Doublade.

For Misty First out would be Meowstic for most of these fights. Using him to debuff the enemy with Disarming Voice and Leer, and protect the rest of the team with Reflect and Light Screen. He can also dish out quite the pain with Psychic and his other STAB moves. Doublade can also offer a lot of damage, specifically to Starmie with Night Slash. The real carry for this gym will be Luxray though, with his arsenal of electric-type moves, he will likely be able to handle most of the damage dealing with Thunder Fang.

It will get a similar treatment, with Jaya coming in with Hone Claws and Scary Face to help her out. Once Pidgeot is out on the field, Power Trip will be Jaya's last big hurrah before Dhaval comes out. Hypnosis and Double Team to set up, and then he'll just start blasting away with Moonblast. Character: Riz Gukgak | [personal profile] nightyorb
Badge/Gym Leader: Ecruteak City / Morty / Fog Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: PI the Yungoos (lvl 100) holding a Chesto berry, Tufsa the Ninjask (lvl 74) holding a Scope Lens, Nasha the Galvantula (lvl 59),
Battle Details:

Riz has scraped together his money to bring

- 10x Chesto Berry
- 1x Full Restore
- 1x Revival Herb

Is Riz bringing a Normal pokemon to a Ghost battle? He sure as heck is!

Now, rest assured, Riz is no dummy. He knows very well that Ghost pokemon are immune to normal attacks. However, what is also true is that Normal pokemon are immune to Ghost attacks. And while his Yungoos has many Normal-type attacks, Riz went ahead and used the money he got from catching that Hisuian Braviary to get a few new TMs for dear PI here, namely Thief and Payback. This gives PI four (4!) Dark-type moves to use, and guess what Ghost pokemon are weak to?

Oh, and also, PI just recently hit lvl 100, which should be a slight bonus too.

Haunter

His strategy for Haunter is to have his Yungoos first focus on using a few mudslaps to lower its accuracy. And, fun little extra, it's a move that Haunter is weak to too!. After a few of those, he'll switch to using Crunch -- not only is this a dark type move, that Haunter is weak too, but Yungoos' ability (Strongjaw) means that its power is doubled.

Unfortunately, Crunch has fairly limited spellslots PP, so Riz will only use this twice (2x) on Haunter, before switching to using Thief or Payback if Haunter has not yet gone down. Payback is a move that doubles in power if the pokemon using it goes last, and it just so happens that Yungoos' base speed is 45 VS Haunter's 95.

One concern is that Morty will have Haunter use a Hypnosis + Dreameater combo, as that is one of the few moves it has that can hit Yungoos. So, Riz will be ready with plenty of Chesto Berries on hand to give to Yungoos.

Misdreavus

If everything has gone well, Yungoos should still be reasonably fresh after taking on Haunter. After all, very few of its attacks should've been able to hit him. So, with this in mind, Riz is going to leave Yungoos out on the field, hoping to duplicate the strategy he used against Haunter on Misdreavus.

The only difference here is that Misdreavus has a few more moves that could potentially hit Yungoos, so he'll be on the lookout for that. Especially if it happens to use the move Perish Song. In that case, Riz will temporarily switch out Yungoos for one of his back-ups to clear the count, before bringing him back out. One further thing is that Misdreavus is not weak to ground moves, so Riz will leave those out, moving straight into the Dark-type attacks.

If Yungoos looks worse for wear at any point during this battle, Riz will fall back on ye olde Rest+Chesto combo to have him quickly restore his HP.

Gengar

Finally it is Gengar's turn. And... still Yungoos' turn too.

Now, there is a big chance that Yungoos is in serious need of some healing, so Riz has a Full Restore ready and waiting for when Yungoos' HP hits 25%. If/when it does, he'll spend his a turn healing Yungoos, and then he'll try and repeat the same strategy as before -- first a few mud-slaps to lower Gengar's accuracy (and target its weakness), move onto Crunch (except he won't have to hold anything back now) and finally use Payback and Thief to finish Gengar off.

Of course, expecting one pokemon, even if it is level 100 to take on three pokemon is fairly optimistic. So Riz has prepared a few plans in case it doesn't go off without a hitch. He has brought Tufsa the Ninjask and Nasha the Galvantula.

Both Riz's Ninjask and Galvantula will not be able to depend on their Bug-type moves, as these are resisted by Morty's ghosts, however, both Tufsa and Nasha have some other moves they can use. Tufsa had a few Ground-type attacks (which Haunter and Gengar will be weak to) and several powerful Flying-type moves. Nasha has several Electric-type attacks, as well as one Dark-type attack to depend on.

If/When PI goes down, he'll first bring out Tufsa and have her do her thing, before switching to Nasha. If it gets to this point, Riz will use a turn to full revive PI and bring him back on the field. However, if it looks like Tufsa has a handle on Morty's remaining pokemon, he'll save the revival herb. Listen, that was a good bit of money, and he'd like to save it if he can.

Battle Details: Okay so Narancia rushed to do this fight as soon as he could after getting back to Vermilion City post prom. He hasn't really got a distinct type advantage this time, but hopefully things will work out for him.

VS Electabuzz: Hopefully that Electabuzz doesn't know any Fighting type moves/Static doesn't activate, because Narancia hasn't got much wiggle room here. He's going to open with Expresso and let the Liepard open with Fake Out before spamming Night Slash. If Expresso gets paralyzed or goes down, he'll switch in Broccole and fall back on the good old Leaf Tornado+Synthesis combo, this time with Hyper Voice mixed in for good measure.

VS Magneton: Finally, something he can exploit a type advantage against! He'll send in Cannoli and have him spam Hammer Arm. There's no real strategy here, just Hammer Arm.

VS Raichu: And we're back to no type advantage+Static risk. At this point he'll just send Broccole back out for a repeat performance of Leaf Tornado+Hyper Voice+Synthesis. If Broccole goes down, he'll switch in Volare to finish up with Fire Fang, with Bacca on backup with Bubble Beam+Recover if things go wrong.

Hopefully it won't get to the point where he has to send in Mr. Smith, but if it somehow does, then the Skarmory is going to go aggro and won't stop using Air Slash until either Narancia wins or Mr. Smith goes down.

While he's aware that Swordie doesn't deal as much with steel type moves, he's going to rely on it's other moves like Sacred Sword and Night Slash to deal damage. Snuggles will be leaning into moves like Slam, Hyper Voice, Sing and Wake-up Slap to make quick work of Surge's roster.

For Erika His team will have Mac and Cheese the Corviknight (50), What the Noibat (46) and Swordie the Doublade (60). The strategy here is very simple in that he intends to use type advantage to the fullest. All of these know flying type moves from Drill Peck, Air Cutter, Wing Attack, Aerial Ace, Brave Bird and Peck. He intends to go on a fully offensive strategy here to burn down Erika's roster as quickly as possible to avoid any of the status moves that may come his way with the plant types. Toxic spikes will be thrown out followed by Fell stinger and pin missile. Should Beedrill faint, Iwa's Volcarona will follow. If Beedrill survives the second fight, he will still be swapped out. Taiyo will go hard with fire and bug attacks, fire blast, bug buzz and leach life along with heat wave to finish the battle.
