Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Poison Ivy | [personal profile] toxicodendron_isley
Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Billy the Forretress. Fireball the Salandit. Tempest the Marill.
Battle Details: Billy's out first against the Skarmory. He's gonna lay down some Spikes, more so to set up for his teammates as they won't affect Skarmory. Then he's gonna set about using Zap Cannon. It doesn't have the best accuracy but it's very strong and always results in paralysis so it should take too many attempts.

For Magnezone, Ivy's brought Fireball. The laid down Spikes should take out a nice chunk (as a Ground type move it's 4x against Magnezone before it can get any Magnet Rise going on). And Fireball is perfectly suited for this gym with his Fire typing and his ability to use Poison moves on Steel types. He'll sneak in a Nasty Plot then start destroying with Flamethrower.

This should continue as Steelix comes out, who again will take a 2x from the Ground type Spikes on the floor. If somehow Fireball falls to Steelix's Ground moves, there's Tempest. Her Hydro Pump and Superpower should be able to make a good dent in that massive Defense stat and finish off this battle.

Character: Alphonse Elric | [personal profile] armoredsoul
Badge/Gym Leader: Chuck for the Storm Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Beryl, Jill, Jack
Battle Details: Between type matchups and sheer overleveling, Al probably isn't going to have a whole lot of trouble here. He'll lead with Jack to set up screens and get some status effects out, but really that's more Al's cautious battling tendencies than anything else.

Character: Alphonse Elric | [personal profile] armoredsoul
Badge/Gym Leader: Jasmine for the Mineral Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Amicus, Anubis, Pluviam
Battle Details: This fight will be a bit more even. Skarmory is the problemeatic fighter here, but Anubis's steel typing will protect him from the worst of the flying-type moves, and Al is hoping that careful use of Calm Mind and Dragon Pulse will get him past that hurdle. After that Magneton and Steelix should be fairly straight forward, though Pluviam is along for backup against the latter.

Character: Jinx | [personal profile] badluckbabe
Badge/Gym Leader: Glacier
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Noir, Ms. Fortune, Strawbeary
Battle Details: As a fun fact about Jinx, she hates the cold. And so a gym like this one is not a battle she's looking forward to.

Clad in her new cold weather clothes, complete with a long coat, three scarfs and the thickest gloves she could use and still have some dexterity in her fingers, Jinx arrived with three of her heaviest hitters with intention on hitting this gym as hard and fast as she could and getting back to the pokemon center for more hot chocolate.

Even so her flair for a dramatic battle wouldn't let her sweep the entire gym with her strongest pokemon (Noir) and so she started the battle with Strawbeary vs. Dewgong. This was a poor choice as Dewgong proved to be a slippery and graceful foe for the clumsy and durable Strawbeary. But Strawbeary eventually worked Dewgong into a corner and seized them by the tail slamming them hard into defeat.

Round two saw Ms Fortune coming out to strut her stuff against a less graceful but power packed Lapris. While Jinx wasn't really into putting her fire type against a water type. the stubborn Ms. Fortune insisted. Ms. Fortune used it as an excuse to stay light on her feet and tested her endurance against the ice cold water attack. Putting on her epic finishing move Lapris went down hard as well.

The final round against Mamoswine was a cakewalk for Noir who has been with Jinx since day one. While he still has his moments of clumsy awkwardness, his power is unrivaled on Jinx's team (Except for Hex of course).

Character: Stanford Pines | [personal profile] meteorman
Badge/Gym Leader: Thunder Badge | Surge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Smash Mouth (lv. 41)
Battle Details: You all know the drill by now. Ford is here with one Pokémon. How many times do we need to teach you this lesson, old man?

This time instead of a type-disadvantaged Ninetails or a neutral Reuniclus he's strategically brought a Ground type to an Electric gym. While Smash Mouth is on par with Surge's Pokémon in terms of levels, he's got a very special Earthquake lined up for each of them, as well as an arsenal of high-power neutral damage moves and entry hazards like Stealth Rock.

Ford's strategy will be to set up a Sandstorm before everything, boosting Smash Mouth's evasiveness thanks to his ability (just because they're Electric types doesn't mean they don't have any moves that can connect!). Then he'll try and Earthquake to see how much it does to the Electabuzz. If it's a big chunk of damage he'll feel confident enough to set up a Stealth Rock; if not, he'll stick to hard-hitting moves and not worry about hazards in favor of just getting Surge's Pokémon down. Luckily Smash Mouth knows the Rest / Sleep Talk combo, so if things start to get really dire that will be Ford's go-to.

Character: Gaige | [personal profile] 2hellwiththe1stlaw
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hitmontop, Gengar, and Metagross
Battle Details: After getting her ass handed to her by Whitney the first time they met back when Gaige's pokemon weren't strong enough, Gaige worked harder and harder to train her team for this rematch. Specifically Mayhem the Hitmontop because she knew the type advantage would work to their favor.

Even if by some misfortune Mayhem should fall, Gaige has Gengar ready to put some fear into those hard core veteran pokemon. And Metagross is ready, willing and able to bring things to a thunderous close with her hulking strength.

Character: Elsa | [personal profile] frozenfractalsallaround
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner/Zephyr Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Here!
Battle Details: Elsa will be opening the battle with Skadi, her Alolan Vulpix!

Elsa and Skadi are both feeling pretty good about things. Elsa is a little nervous, but Skadi's own confidence is infectious and after the first couple of moves, Elsa becomes a little less tense and really gets into it.

After learning the importance of using moves that aren't strictly attacks, Elsa will have Skadi use baby-doll eyes to lower their attack power before unleashing the full power of her eyes. She'll start off by testing the true effectiveness of ice against Falkner's Pokemon, using lower-level moves like Ice Shard.

When she feels like she has an upper hand or if she feels like they're in a pinch, she'll start using Ice Beam to make quicker work of things.

Should Skadi fall in battle, she'll switch out to Heimdall the Absol. She would be upset about Skadi being defeated, so she'll have Absol use his strongest attacks, Thunder, Slash, the like along with Swords Dance to power him up a bit more.

Character: Alphonse Elric | [personal profile] armoredsoul
Badge/Gym Leader: Pryce for the Glacier Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Amicus Pluviam Anubis
Battle Details: Al is leading with Amicus here, hoping that their sturdiness will outweigh their slow reaction times. Anubis and Pluviam act as backup for the water types and Mamoswine respectively, both having decent resistances for each fight.

Character: Alphonse Elric | [personal profile] armoredsoul
Badge/Gym Leader: Claire for the Rising Bagde
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Hi-Teq Acorn Amicus Pluviam Anubis Mordere
Battle Details: For the final badge, Al is ready for one heck of a fight. Hi-Teq and Acorn are leading against Gyrados for the power of Elecric- and Grass-type attacks against it's Water-Flying typing. Kingdra with it's Water-Dragon typing might take some hits from that, but Anubis with Steel resistances and Dragon Pulse on it's side should be able to take it out once weakened. Dragonite is the real challenge, and the rest of Al's team are ready to pile on as much damage as they can should Anubis go down: Pluviam with Ice Fang, Mordere with Rock- and Dragon-type attacks aplenty, and Amicus with brute-force attacks. It might be by the skin of his teeth, but Al is confident he's got a shot here.

Character: Diana Ladris | [personal profile] keep_surviving
Badge/Gym Leader: Clair for the Rising Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Caine Isla Sass
Battle Details: Okay, final Johto gym. Diana can do this. She can prove that she's worth something.
Of course, here comes Caine, totally ready to wreck Gyarados with Discharge. Not much else to say there, he's way over leveled for this gym.

Next is Isla out against Kingdra. These two are more level matched. Diana's plan is for Isla to set up a Misty Terrain and a Light Screen to boost her own attack while half-ing that special damage of Kingdra's. After that, it's Moonblast all the way. Shouldn't be too hard, especially if Diana remembers to keep resetting Light Screen. (If Isla does fail, Caine is still perfectly ready for some more Water slaughter.)

Last up is Sass, here to deal with Dragonite. Now Sass does have Dragon Pulse but Diana thinks she might have a better way of taking this big dragon down. If Sass can get a Toxic in, that should chip away at some of Dragonite's bulk while Sass sets up a Nasty Plot (and her high level should stop her taking too much damage in between). And now for Venoshock, which not only doubles in damage from Dragonite being poisoned, but also has a STAB boost and a +2 to Sp. Atk thanks to Nasty Plot. With that as her main attacking move and Dragonite receiving damage from being 'badly poisoned', which increases with damage each turn, Sass should win this thing.

Character: Poison Ivy | [personal profile] toxicodendron_isley
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Loral the Trubbish. Joan the Koffing. Fireball the Salandit.
Battle Details: Ivy's going to be using this battle to test out the strength of her new pure Poison type Pokemon.

Up first against Pinsir is Loral, who's going to be boosting his Defense and Special Defense with a series of Stockpiles. Once he has 3 of those up, it's time to head into Sludge Bomb. Each use has a 30% chance of poisoning and this is going to be Loral's main offense here so eventually, unless the odds are super against Ivy, this should take. Sludge Bomb is a 90 base move with Loral's added STAB that ignores Pinsir's high defense due to it being a special attacking move. Even without the added chipping damage of being poisoned, this strategy should work as each whittle the other down. Of course, Pinsir does have a high attack which Loral's +3 Defense should help with but if it looks like Loral has taken too damage to see this through, Ivy will instruct a Swallow, losing all those defense boosts from Stockpile, but gaining back full health, which should be enough to give Loral time to at least end the match. Afterall, Poison is naturally resistant to Fighting and that's the majority type of Pinsir's attacking moves.

After that all Loral needs to do is get as many Take Down's on Heracross as he can until he's taken out. Heracross' main opponent will be Joan. It's time to be annoying, with lots of Smokescreen! Is it a cheap tactic? Oh yes. But it works. Koffing bank on their high Defense and Heracross on their high Attack. The stats are stacked in our favor, but let's make it better by having Heracross only land a hit every other move. Joan is going to be attacking with a STAB Sludge, doing decent damage but again has a 30% chance of poisoning. Ivy's cautious that Heracross may have Guts so there's two ways this can go.

1) Poison takes but it turns out Heracross has Swarm. Poison types are still resistant to Bug type moves so this won't effect Joan too much. She'll keep using Sludge and taking advantage of those accuracy drops until she wins.

After which, there's not much she can do against Scizor apart from use Assurance. Which she will until she's unable to battle and be replaced by Fireball.

2) If poison does take and Guts appears activated, Joan will use Self-Destruct, dealing massive damage to Heracross and hopefully resulting in a double knockout. If Heracross survives, Fireball will be sent out.

Fireball, regardless of when he needs to be brought out, will have the simple strategy of using Flamethrower on everything. He's more than high enough in level to be able to wipe out this team himself, but Ivy's trying to reserve him just for Scizor.

Character: Poison Ivy | [personal profile] toxicodendron_isley
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Musa the Tropius. Gossy the Whimsicott. Nymph the Floette.
Battle Details: Ivy's gonna try and use only one main Pokemon for this battle.

Up first is Musa with a simple plan, try and pull Poliwrath out instead of Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan with Whirlwind. She'll keep going until it works. Once that has been accomplished, Ivy in turn will switch to Gossy, who will lay down a Leech Seed and begin setting up. Poliwrath really isn't much of a threat but if Hitmonchan has Fire Punch and Hitmonlee has Blaze Kick that could be bad.

Gossy's next moves are as follows; Sunny Day, then Growth, which boosted by the harsh sunlight will up her by 2 instead of 1, Cotton Guard to pull her defense up by 3 stages, Tailwind to double speed ensuring she'll be moving first, then a Synthesis which will bring her health back up nice and high in the sunlight despite whatever moves Poliwrath has been trying to land. Finally, Gossy will use a STAB super effective Giga Drain to knock Poliwrath out while healing the rest of her HP.

The sunlight will fade after this, which is good as we don't need those Fire moves getting a boost. Now the plan is back to being simple, throw down a Leech Seed and Moonblast everything in her path! Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan, it doesn't matter. They may both have high Sp. Def but a 2+ to her Sp. Atk and a STAB boost mean she'll be dealing some heavy super effective damage. Plus it's always nice having Leech Seed chipping at their health while bringing back just a little of yours.

Ivy is pretty confident in her plan. Nymph is purely here for backup, with a Moonblast for the Himon's and Petal Dance for Poliwrath if some clean up is required. Musa also has Air Slash and Leaf Storm if she's brought back out.

Armin and co are going to be travelling from the Sevii Islands to Goldenrod via warps and ferry, so he’ll be hitting up these three gyms in fairly rapid time (maybe a day or two in between). So I figured it would be best to write them up all together in one post.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Olivine City / Mineral Badge / Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular team
Team: Circinus the Voltorb (lvl 100) + Magellan the Incineroar (lvl 100) + Himeko the Steelix (lvl 100)
Battle Details:

He’ll start off the fight against Jasmine’s Skarmory with Circinus the Voltorb. Circinus resists both flying and steel types, and Skarmory is weak to his electric type.

They are travelling through, so Armin is looking to make these fights fairly quick where he can. As such, he’s got a pretty simple strategy for this one. He’ll have Circinus use charge, and then on his next attack use one of Circinus’ electric moves. At first he’ll concentrate on Discharge until Skarmory is paralysed, then he’ll switch to Thunder.

Against Jasmine’s Magneton, he’ll withdraw Circinus and bring out Magellan the Incineroar. Magellan is resistant to steel and he’s a fire type which Magneton is weak to. In addition, Magellan has several fighting moves which Magneton is weak to. Armin will immediately focus on Magellan’s hard-hitting fire moves like Blast burn (requires one turn to charge up) and Fire Fang. In addition, he’ll maybe throw in a Cross Chop or Double Kick.

For the last battle against Jasmine’s Steelix, Armin is going to attempt something unusual. He’ll counter her Steelix with his own! His thought is that they will now have the exact same weakness and strengths, and the victory will depend on level (Himeko’s is higher), additional moves (he taught Himeko one extra ground-type move which Jasmine’s Steelix will be vulnerable to) and strategy (and he hopes he has learned a bit about that since coming here).

(Also it would probably be kind of super cool to watch two giant steel snakes throw down)

For this final match-up, Armin is going to focus on the moves he knows Steelix is weak to: Fire Fang, Bulldoze, and Dig. For the most part, he knows this will be an endurance battle though, and what he is hoping for is that Himeko’s superior level will drag her through that. Should she go down or look very injured, he’ll switch her out for Magellan, however Magellan’s weakness to rock type attacks (and Steelix has so many of those) makes him hope he won’t need to do that.

Another day, another battle.

Armin is going to start hard and fast against Morty’s Haunter by bringing out Amadeus his Noctowl. He is well aware that Haunter is immune to Amadeus’ normal type attacks, but what it isn’t immune to is the Noctowl’s many psychic attacks. Additionally, Amadeus is immune to ghost type attacks which is what most of Haunter’s moves are (He checked with Shiro’s Haunter the Gengar). So, yes, that’ll basically be Armin’s entire strategy for this match: have Amadeus use his psychic moves while watching most of Haunter’s moves be completely ineffective.

For the second match against Morty’s Misdreavus, Armin will switch Amadeus for Magellan the Incineroar. Magellan is part dark type which Misdreavus is weak to. Additionally, Magellan resists ghost-type moves and is completely immune to psychic type moves which make up most of Misdreavus’ move pool. Essentially, during this match, Armin will be focussing on Magellan’s dark type moves (Bite, Darkest Lariat and Throat Chop) and might even throw in a few nicely damaging fire type moves. They don’t do special damage, but they can still bring the burn!

For the third match against Morty’s Gengar, Armin will bring out Amadeus’ again. Depending on how injured he might be from the first battle, Armin will first have Amadeus use Roost to regain HP, before he will switch to using much the same strategy against Gengar as he used against Haunter: focus on psychic moves while most of Gengar’s move will be ineffective. He’ll keep an eye out for Gengar’s dark type moves, and he’ll be ready to have Amadeus throw in another roost if needed, but he expects to be able to carry off this battle without issue.

Battle Details: Utilizing Magnet Rise, Golem will take to leaping strikes on Whitney's Miltank, followed by Thunderbolt and his overall toughness should weather it's rollout spam. Mimikyu's shadow claw and other assorted dark type attacks should punch through Girafarig and Clefable, and provided Mimikyu doesn't sweep the last two, trusty old Raichu will sweep through the rest with level advantage and plain old electrical attacks, using it's higher speed from it's very late evolution by starting out with Quick Attack, followed by Thunderbolt.

Battle Details: Shiro is going to go in favoring his Incineroar and her fighting type moves, having already heard some strategy about Normal Types, and planning accordingly. Marowak comes up next, if Incineroar is taken down. He'll fall back on using his Aggron and its high defense if all else fails, but for the most part, he'll rely on Incineroar.

Battle Details: Though she's at a disadvantage with a mostly-grass type party, the addition of Cheeks the Pachirisu as a backup means she can bring him out if things are looking dire for Sif or Buttons, who she's leading off the charge with. She'll struggle a little bit, but she's done a little homework with regards to Falkner's team and will be focusing her efforts on knocking out that Pidgeot.

New Region, New Challenge

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2018-01-08 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Walter Sullivan | [personal profile] 11121_assumption
Badge/Gym Leader: Cascade Badge / Misty
Elite/Regular: Elite!
Team: Reed, Chaos, Robbie, Joseph, Knife, Claudia (all level 100)
Battle Details: Despite laying low, Walter wants to be doing something 'productive'. Why not try out his first Elite Challenge, after doing a little bit of investigating and research around town?

With only seven Pokemon at the right level for this challenge, Walter's choices are limited. His first Pokemon out is Reed, to immediately shut down the Quagsire with a sharp Leaf Blade. It'll be his main move used in this battle, and as he's holding a Miracle Seed, he'll hopefully be able to take out the Lanturn as well, and possible more members of Misty's team before falling. Against the Milotic Walter will tell Reed to use Leaf Storm as it's more powerful, but only once due to it's stat reductions. When getting low on health, Reed will use Synthesis to recover. It's only when faced with the Lapras that Reed will retreat, using U-Turn to get some damage in before returning.

Against the Lapras (if Reed successfully held the field and U-Turned out), Walter will send out Robbie and have him use Superpower; this is Robbie's key moment in the battle, to break through the ice. If it lives, Walter will order Robbie to use Iron Head to finish it.

With the Milotic, Walter will have Robbie use Swords Dance to regain some of his power, before having him go all out with Thrash.

He doesn't foresee Robbie lasting long against the Starmie or being effective against it, so will instead have Robbie use Leer to lower the Starmie's defense before he faints. Once he's down, Walter will send out Joseph. Joseph has a Life Orb on him, so this is going to hurt...for everyone. He'll be using Hone Claws to up his power and accuracy, before using Night Slash for maximum damage. With his speed, Walter doesn't think Starmie will be able to knock him out before Joseph takes him out. On the offchance Starmie has spammed evasion rising moves, then Joseph will use Feint Attack for a blow that will definitely land (albeit at the cost of power). If Joseph is knocked out, Walter has a back-up plan in Knife. Knife also has Night Slash and Feint Attack meaning it never ends.

Should Reed faint before the Lapras is summoned, Walter will switch in Chaos. Her fierce Discharge and Wild Charges should give her an advantage in this battle, especially once she's set up an Electric Terrian - although if faced by the Lanturn, Walter will call on her to use Return and Throat Chop instead. Against the Lapras and other members of Misty's team, Chaos will continue to use her electrical attacks but has no means to recover her health, so will likely faint if called out early in the battle.

If Robbie failed to take out th Miltoic, then Reed or Chaos (depending on who is still standing) will be sent out to finish it off. Reed will use Leaf Storm to try and take it out quick, following up with a Leaf Blade. Since he'd be out against the Starmie, Reed would immediately use Phantom Force, followed by Spirit Shackles or a Shadow Sneak, depending on how fast Reed is against the Starmie. Chaos would use Wild Charge and Spark against he Milotic, continuing with her reckless battling style against the Starmie. Should either faint, then Walter returns to the original plan and sends out Joseph.

Claudia is a reserve; her go-to attack will be Dazzling Gleam against most of the water types, with Dark Pulse saved for the Starmie. She'll also be using Confuse Ray to hinder her foes.

foolishwren: i goig to fucking GET YOU (BREAKING NEWS:)

so so SO SO backdated, Soulbadge in September and Volcanobadge in October

[personal profile] foolishwren 2018-01-08 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Heather Mason | [personal profile] foolishwren

Badge/Gym Leader: Janine | Soulbadge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Here!
Battle Details: Heather will be bringing: Claudy (Noctowl), Alessa (Absol), Sunny (Togekiss), Carousel (Rapidash), Kite (Fletchinder), Wolf (Riolu). All level 100 except for Wolf and Kite (65 and 60)

For once, the brute force of Sunny's ridiculous range of attacks won't cut it, thanks to Poison's advantage over Fairy. All the same, she's bringing Sunny anyway because she needs every Psychic attack she can get. Fortunately, she's got both Claudy and Alessa (who both also know Psychic-type moves) to back Sunny up. She's hoping that Claudy will be able to obliterate Toxicroak with Flying-type moves and make up for Alessa's Bug-type weakness against Venomoth. For Drapion and Arbok, Carousel comes in at the rear with her Drill Run attack.
For this battle, Wolf and Kite are both incredibly under-leveled (not even fully-evolved!) and are really just here to get a taste of gym battling-- or watch from the sidelines. If either of them spend any significant time on the battlefield, it means the battle's REALLY gone belly-up.

Badge/Gym Leader: Blaine | Volcanobadge
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Here!
Battle Details: Heather will be bringing: Godzilla (Feraligatr), Arty (Furret), Carousel (Rapidash), Val Jr. (Hitmonchan), Hazel (Pikachu), and Wolf (Riolu).

Godzilla leads the charge here, unsurprisingly. Being Heather's only Water-type, he's also a powerful attacker and she's hoping he'll be able to take on most of Blaine's team by himself (especially those two with the 4x Water-type weaknesses!). But in case he can't, backing him up are Arty (who knows both Surf and Dig), Carousel (Drill Run), Val (Rock Slide AND some Fighting-type moves for that Houndoom!), and Hazel (Dig). Wolf, again, is here to watch and learn.

Character: Ash Fox | [personal profile] rambling_runner
Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge / Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Temposhark (lv. 61), Diarmuid (lv.71), Mufusa (lv.84), An Tintreach (lv.82), Danny (lv.100), Kilburn (lv.baby)
Battle Details: Because Ash has been living in Olivine, he's ended up learning about the gym leader and her team. So he knows what he's facing and has come up with a plan for the battle.

Mufusa comes out first to set the battlefield ablaze. After a Work Up, she'll be using Fire Fangs and Flamethrowers on Jasmine's team. Against the Steelix she does lose her super-effectiveness, but she'll still go all out. If her health is low, she'll use Endeavour to pull the Steelix down to her own HP before she gets knocked out. Otherwise, she'll use Overheat to try and deal as much damage as possible to it. It's most likely this will be where she gets knocked out, despite the level advantage, so Ash would follow up with Diarmuid. Diarmuid will cut to the chase and open up with Close Combat; it's super effective and he's ten levels above the Steelix.

The rest of Ash's team are backups just in case things go really awry; Temposhark has Dig and Sand Tomb for super effective damage (she wouldn't be used against the Skarmory), An Tintreach has Rock Smash and Dynamic Punch and Wild Charge for the bird and Danny is...Danny. Kilburn's a recent hatch who is still disguised as a Vulpix at this point, and Ash is totally confident that Danny will clean house if things get dire.

Badge/Gym Leader: Marsh Badge / Sabrina
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Assumption, Joseph, Reed, Knife, Chaos, Doll (all level 100, aside from Doll who is lv.94)
Battle Details: Walter was only meant to be passing through Saffron but then he heard the words 'Psychic Gym Leader'...

Joseph is the first out, using Hone Claws to prepare. Then he'll be using Night Slash and Beat Up to take on Sabrina's team, switching to Fient Attack if they raise evasion and Punishment if they raise their over stats. Against the Wobbuffet he'll use Taunt first, to prevent a Destiny Bond, and switch to Dark Pulse to try and catch Sabrina out, thinking she'll use Counter as Joseph will have been using physical attacks. That, and Mirror Coat does not affect Dark types at all. Then it's back to physical attacking.

Walter won't be surprised if Joseph falls to the Gallade, in which case out comes Assumption. Assumption will immediately use Shadow Bone, and will use Shadow Bone on the rest of Sabrina's team. Walter is completely confident in Assumption sweeping, but he also has Reed (with Spirit Shackle, Shadow Sneak and Phantom Force), Knife (with Iron Head for the Gardevoir and Night Slash) and Chaos (with Throat Chop and Crunch) as back-ups. Doll is very much a last resort, as she's relatively close in level and has strong, super-effective attacks (Sucker Punch, Shadow Claw and Phantom Force) she can use

Badge/Gym Leader: Blackthorn
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Arcanine (100), Aggron (100) , and poor Doodle the Trapinch (77)
Battle Details: Look, it's time for Bertolt to learn that he can't 1) Burn It All To The Ground and/or 2) Brute Force every single fight and gym he takes on. Kick his ass, Claire.

Being that he doesn't have any experience fighting other dragon-types properly let alone a Gyarados that's actually not a big weenie, he's going to send in his Arcanine first. Since said Arcanine is fire, he probably won't last very long against the big ol' Anger Noodle but at the very least he'll try to get in a good Thunder Fang or two before he inevitably crashes and burns either against it or the Kingdra that follows.

Regardless of whoever still stands, the next one Bert sends out is his Aggron which - just like his Arcanine - has an unfortunate weakness to water. If by some miracle he ends up surviving to the last one, Claire's Dragonite'll be able to polish him off with relative ease.

Which leaves Bertolt's last contender - one he didn't exactly mean to grab, but with how some Pokeballs all look the same...

Enter Doodle.

RIP in pieces, little buddy. Your ground attacks do nothing.

Character: Elsa | [personal profile] frozenfractalsallaround
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge/Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: here
Battle Details: Elsa will start off the battle with her Absol. He's her heavy hitter and she knows he has a wide arsenal to work with. In the heat of the moment, it doesn't come to Elsa right away that dark types are strong against Girafarig, but when she does remember that's what she'll focus on using to help win the battle. Since Absol has a level advantage, if he makes it through Girafarig she'll keep using him

Elsa will keep using Absol as much as she can, using his heaviest hitting moves, then she'll switch to Alolan Ninetales when he can no longer battle.

Once Ninetales is on the field, Elsa is going to seem more confident. She's still riding the rush of Skadi evolving, so to her they're on top of the world. She seems more sure of things as she commands Skadi. She'll use her most powerful ice attacks, primarily Blizzard, to help push the battle in her favor.

Should Ninetales fall, her third Pokemon will be a fire type Vulpix. He doesn't have a level advantage like the others, but he more than makes up for that in energy and enthusiasm. It's his first gym battle and he's here to impress Elsa and have a good time! He bounds around the battle field with the energy of a puppy hyped up on sugar. He listens to Elsa whatever she commands, though in his eagerness he can and will flub a few attacks, but when he doesn't miss he hits hard and fast.

Character: Elsa | [personal profile] frozenfractalsallaround
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge/Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: here
Battle Details: Elsa goes into this battle knowing she has a type advantage and a level advantage. It isn't often Elsa has this much confidence, but she and her Pokemon have been working together so well lately, she feels like she's got this.

Elsa will lead the battle off with her fire type Vulpix. He's gonna be super cocky going into this battle, feeding off of Elsa's own confidence. He'll put a lot of extra oomph into his fire attacks, really giving this battle his all because he feels like he's really making his trainer proud. As full as energy as ever, he'll dart around the stage with excitement and enthusiasm, which very well could be his downfall.

Regardless if Vulpix falls before or after, Elsa will swap him out when she has to go up against Scizor because she knows he could use a break. She'll send out her Alolan Ninetales to battle Scizor and aim to take him down with Blizzard and ice type moves as quickly as possible.

Badge/Gym Leader: Earth Badge | Blue
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Scylla (lv. 60), Jellybean (lv. 60), Mirkwood (lv. 64), Kerouac (lv. 70), MIPS (lv. 80), Fantastic Mr. Fox (lv. 90)
Battle Details: Ford is here for his final Kanto badge! It's time. He's ready. Unlucky badge thirteen at easily the hardest gym in both regions, here we go.

He's brought a team mostly on-par with Blue's, with Mr. Fox and MIPS in the back for some extra levels in case he winds up in a tight spot. He's done his research on Blue's team because he's Ford Pines and can't not do research, so he's got a contingency plan for most of the Pokémon he might face.

He'll be leading with Scylla, both to gauge things out and because she has moves that will hit a lot of Blue's Pokémon hard. His method with her will be setting up an Aqua Ring and then trying to do a good chunk of damage before she gets to low enough health that he feels the need to Baton Pass her out. His hope is that she can at least Ice Beam the Exeggutor out of the equation before he needs to swap her; if not he'll pass into Mirkwood to finish things up.

Mirkwood is out against the Machamp. Ford is going to be relying on his arsenal of strong Flying-type moves and Mirkwood's immunity to Fighting to get through that fight; hopefully that will be enough, because he wants to keep Mirkwood in against the Rhydon as well. Mirkwood has a nice selection of Grass attacks lined up for that match.

Jellybean is out against the Gyarados. Ford forsees the second half of this battle being more difficult, so he's brought the asshole stallwall that took down Misty. Jellybean doesn't have anything that might one-hit Gyarados, but he does have his Sticky Barb that he can transfer over for some extra damage and a nice array of high-power moves, some of which hit for STAB. If Gyarados ever hecks him up too bad, he can Recover (he'll likely go for setting up a Future Sight and then healing on the turn that it hits, if he can afford to play that kind of game).

Into the home stretch. Jellybean is going to stay out against the Pidgeot for as long as he can handle, but in the event he needs to be swapped out Ford will bring out Kerouac. His method here is simple: Toxic, Venoshock. Simple, effective. He's going to keep that strategy up on through the Arcanine, and if things start to look dire an Explosion should finish things off in his favor.

MIPS and Mr. Fox are really only here for moral support, and in the event that something really very bad happens.

Battle Details: Since this is Jane's first gym battle in Kanto, she decided to do a little research about Erika's team while she had some downtime during the Contest Spectacular, and found she had several Pokemon who had a decisive type advantage over the Grass type leader as well as a level advantage for her Regular Team. She'll lead with Bettina for Jumpluff for a Poison assault, then August for Tangrowth to really lay on special Fire attacks, since Tangrowth notably has high HP and Defense, but its Sp. Defense is quite lacking. Then, Poirot will face off against Bellosom with all of his Fury-Cutting Bug prowess. Dinah is there for backup and for any surprise turns Erika might throw at them.

Battle Details: Thida is going mostly for overpowering Erika via level difference, though Banba as a Flying type has a very clear advantage over Erika's team and will likely take the brunt of the battling. However, Thida will let Poko try to square off against Jumpluff, mostly because of the similar levels and to give the little guy a taste of what battling for a gym badge is like; he has Flame Charge to help boost his speed and Flamethrower to spread the fire around, and Thida would have likely learned to use the Defense Curl + Rollout technique from battling Whitney, thus boosting an attack that would already have 2x damage to Jumpluff.

tl;dr: Poko the Tepig for Jumpluff, then tear a fucking tornado through Tangrowth and Bellosom with Banba the Noivern.
