Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Battle Details: Obviously, Armin is bringing a hell of a lot of items to these matches, making sure to heal up his pokemon in between fights. Also enjoy Armin's battle music. At least it is epic enough for this.

Will

Bronzong vs Magellan

Starting off, Armin will bring out Magellan the Incineroar to face off against Bronzong. Magellan is immune to psychic attacks, and resists dark/ghost/steel. Meanwhile, Bronzong is weak to fire and dark type moves.

With most of Bronzong’s attacks having little to no effect on Magellan, Armin’s strategy for this particular match rests all on Magellan’s fire moves. Armin will start off with Flame Charge, which will boost Magellan’s speed each time it is used. After two or three turns of this, he’ll switch to using Fire Fang for that double chance of both burning and causing Bronzong to flinch. Of course, he’ll be keeping an eye on Magellan’s HP, but considering Bronzong’s pool of attacks, he isn’t particularly worried about Magellan making it through this round with most of his health intact.

Jynx vs Magellan

Onto the next match! Armin will leave Magellan in, so he can continue to enjoy that boosted speed. Again, Magellan is immune to Psychic attacks but also resists ice type moves. Jynx is ice/psychic, leaving it with a weakness to both dark and fire type moves.

Armin’s main concern with this battle is Jynx’s potential for putting Magellan to sleep using Lovely Kiss. As such, he has a bunch of Awakenings on hand in case Jynx’s succeeds at that. Beyond that, much like the previous match, most of this fight will be pretty straight forward, with Armin concentrating on using Magellan’s fire type moves. With his speed still boosted from the previous match, Armin will once again have Magellan use Fire Fang on Jynx for that chance of burn/flinch. Should his HP be starting to get low, Armin will have Magellan use Drain Punch on Jynx to recover some of that HP, switching that up with a few Fire Punches until Jynx is down and out.

Grumpig vs Nemesis

Once Jynx is defeated, Armin will withdraw Magellan and bring out Nemesis the Sharpedo instead. She is a water/dark type, and is immune to psychic attacks. She also resists ghost/dark damage. Grumpig is a psychic type who is weak to dark. Additionally, most of its moves are psychic (with some dark/ghost)

For this battle, Armin will be focusing on Nemesis’ dark type moves. He’ll first focus on using Crunch, which has a chance of lowering Grumpig’s defence. Once that is down a stage or two, he’ll switch to using Night Slash which has a high critical hit ratio. There is a chance of Grumpig confusing Nemesis, so Armin has plenty of items on hand for that and should that happen, he will immediately heal her the turn after it happens. He does not want that self-inflicted damage, thank you. Apart from that, he does not expect a lot of trouble in this match.

Slowbro vs Nemesis

Next match, Armin will leave Nemesis in to face off against Slowbro. Slowbro is a water/psychic type and most of its attacks are either Psychic (which Nemesis is immune to) or water (which she resists)

Starting off this match, Armin will have Nemesis Mega-evolve for just that extra little boost. Due to this, Nemesis’ ability will change to Strong Jaw, which increases the damage done with biting moving by 50%. Like before, Armin will first focus on using Crunch (both biting move and dark move) to lower Grumpig’s defence. When the PP for this move will run low, he will switch to using bite (dark move/biting/chance of flinching).

Gardevoir vs Octavius

For the next match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis, and instead, send out Octavius the Dhelmise. Octavius is a grass/ghost type, with no relevant weaknesses/resistances. Gardevoir is psychic/fairy, which is weak to ghost/steel.

Starting off, Octavius has the ability steelworker. This boosts his steel type moves with 50%. Armin will have him use Heavy Slam. Heavy Slam does more damage, the bigger the weight difference between Dhelmise and Gardevoir. Gardevoir weighs 106lbs, Dhelmise 463lbs. This puts the power of the move in the 20-25% category making it 100, which then is further boosted by his Steelworker ability to 150. After pummelling Gardevoir a few times with Heavy Slam, Armin will switch to having Octavius use Astonish (30% of flinching) and Phantom Force.

If Octavius’ HP starts running low at any point, Armin will have him use Giga/mega drain to recover some of that.

Xatu vs Circinus

Onto the final match. For this match, Armin will withdraw Octavius and bring out Circinus the Electrode. Circinus is an electric type and resists flying type moves. Xatu is a Flying/psychic type, who is weak to electric attacks. Additionally, Circinus is holding a Magnet, which boosts the power of his electric type moves with 20% (on top of STAB bonus)

For this battle, Armin will first have Circinus use Charge (doubles the power of the next move if it is an electric type move) and then will have him use Thunder (10% chance of paralysing target). Thunder normally has a power of 110. With stab that is 165; with Circinus’ magnet that makes 197; with Charge that makes 394.

Armin is kinda hoping to knock Xatu out in two moves, but if not, he’ll repeat his charge -> thunder combo until it does.

Koga
Skunktank vs Nemesis

To start off this match, Armin will bring out Nemesis. She is water dark, so she has a resistance against dark attacks. Skunktank is poison/dark.

This is one match-up where Armin has very little in terms of clever strategies or preying on an opponent’s weaknesses. Instead, for this match, he’s simply going to depend on Nemesis’ strength to get him through. To start, he will have Nemesis mega-evolve once more into Mega Sharpedo. Then he’ll have her use Agility to boost her speed. Next, though its damage will be more limited, Armin will first focus on having Nemesis use Crunch, to lower Skunktank’s defence a level or two. With those stat changes set up, it’s time to simply throw down until one of the two goes down. Armin will focus on having Nemesis use her strongest water type attacks (Surf, Aqua Jet, Dive) and once Skunktank’s health is low enough he’ll try and finish things up with a Hyper Beam.

Venomoth vs Magellan

For this match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis and bring out Magellan. Magellan is a fire/dark type. Venomoth is bug/poison, which leaves it with a weakness to fire. Additionally, it has several psychic moves which Magellan is immune to.

As we all know, the best way of dealing with bugs is using fire, so that is what Armin will be doing this round. Fire Fang, Flare Blitz, Flamethrower, all will see some use here. And once Venomoth is low enough in health, Armin will finish up the match by having Magellan use Blast Burn.

Toxicroak vs Amadeus

At the start of this match, Armin will withdraw Magellan in favour of Amadeus. Amadeus is a flying/normal type, which means he is immune to any ghost and ground attacks Toxicroak has. Toxicroak is poison/fighting which leaves him with a weakness to fighting and a double weakness to psychic.

Amadeus has a lot of psychic attacks. And Armin’s strategy for this match is to simply throw all of them at Toxicroak until it goes down. He’ll start off with Psychic and work his way down the list. Should Amadeus’ health start looking low, it is time to Roost, before going back to the psychic attacks.

Swalot vs Octavius

Another match, another Pokemon. Armin will withdraw Amadeus and bring out Octavius instead. Octavius is grass/ghost. As such, it is immune to normal type attacks. Swalot is a poison type pokemon, but roughly half its attacks are normal type and will be useless. Additionally, it is weak to ground. Octavius knows the move Bulldoze, which is a ground type move. Armin’s strategy for this match is to essentially have Octavius use Bulldoze until Swalot goes down, with an option of using Giga/Mega drain should his HP get low.

Crobat vs Circinus

For this match, Armin will bring out Circinus. Circinus is an electric type pokemon who resists flying type moves. Crobat is poison/flying with a weakness to electric attacks.

Armin’s strategy here is going to be a repeat of his strategy against Will’s Xatu. Charge + Thunder. Repeat if necessary.

Muk vs Amadeus

For this last match, Armin is bringing back Amadeus. If his HP is low from the previous fight, he will heal him on the first turn. Muk is a poison type, with a weakness to psychic moves. Additionally, it has several ground type moves, which Amadeus is immune to.

This match too will be all about Amadeus’ psychic attacks. Armin will repeat his strategy of the last match with one minor change. Because Roosting will temporarily make Amadeus vulnerable to ground attacks, instead Armin will have Amadeus use Hypnosis + Dream eater if his HP ever starts getting low.

Bruno
Armin is aiming to take down Bruno with one single pokemon. Namely his Dhelmise Octavius. Octavius. Octavius, being a grass/ghost is immune to both fighting and normal type moves. All of Bruno’s pokemon are fighting type pokemon whose moves predominately consist of either normal or fighting type moves. Which again, Octavius is completely immune to.

For all of these matches, Octavius will use his strongest Grass/Ghost/Steel moves which get a STAB boost/Steelworker boost, sprinkling in the occasional Giga drain/Mega drain if his health gets low. Of course, this strategy will eat through his PP *fast*, so Armin is standing by with Max Elixers and some health potions, just in case.

[personal profile] schachmeister 2019-04-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Karen
Weavile vs Magellan

Starting off this match, Armin will bring out Magellan. Being a fire/dark type, Magellan has a resistance against dark and ice attacks which Weavile has several of. Weavile, meanwhile, is a dark/ice type pokemon. This means it is not only vulnerable to fire, but it is also extra vulnerable to fighting type attacks. Magellan is not a fighting type, however Armin has taught him several fighting type moves and he’s equipped with a Black Belt which boosts the power of his fighting type moves by 20%.

To start things off, Magellan will use Bulk Up once or twice times to boost his attack and defence (depending on what sort of damage Weavile does to him in the meantime). After this, he’ll use Drain Punch to recover any HP he may have lost due to Weavile first attacks. And after that, it’s just a straight up focus on using Double Kick / Cross Chop / Low kick and Drain punch if his HP is getting low.

Absol vs Magellan

Armin will leave in Magellan for the match against Absol. Absol has several dark type attacks which won’t be very effective against Magellan, and it also has a few psychic attacks, which Magellan is completely immune to.

Still enjoying his boosted defence and attack from the previous match, the strategy for taking down Absol will be much the same as the previous match, with Magellan focussing on Double Kick / Cross Chop / Low kick and Drain punch if his HP is getting low.

Spiritomb vs Gus

To take on Spiritomb, Armin will withdraw Magellan and bring out Gus. Gus, being fairy/grass, enjoys a resistance to dark type moves, of which Spiritomb has several. Additional, Spiritomb has a weakness to Fairy type moves. Also, because Gus’ ability is Effect Spore, each time Spiritomb makes contact with Gus, there is a 30% chance of it ending up poisoned/paralysed/asleep.

Starting things off, Armin will have Gus use ingrain to sprout roots, which means he’ll recover 1/16th of his HP every round. After this, Armin will start off with using Moon Blast on Spiritomb (also has 30% chance of lowering special attack) and Dazzling Gleam. If his HP gets low enough even with his ingrained roots, Armin will have him use Giga Drain/Moonlight to recover said HP.

Houndoom vs Nemesis

For this match, Armin will switch Gus with Nemesis. Nemesis is a dark/water type, meaning she has resistances to both fire and dark. Houndoom meanwhile is a fire/dark type with a weakness to water.

For this match, Armin is going to depend on Nemesis’ speed in combination with her Aqua Jet attack to hit fast and hit hard. He might also throw in a Waterfall (chance of flinching) and Surf. A simple and straightforward battle.

Honchkrow vs Circinus

For this match, Armin will be withdrawing Nemesis and bring out Circinus. Honchkrow is a dark/flying type with a weakness to electric attacks. Circinus is an electric type. The strategy for this match will be familiar because you’ve heard it before. Charge + Thunder. Repeat if necessary.

Umbreon vs Gus

For the final match against Karen, Armin will bring back Gus. Again, Gus is Fairy/grass, giving him a resistance against dark type moves. Additionally, Umbreon, being a dark type pokemon, has a weakness to fairy type attacks.

Depending on how low Gus’ HP is after the last battle, Armin will use his first move to heal him with a potion. If his health is still fairly okay, he’ll skip this and command Gus to use ingrain again. From there on, the battle will be fairly similar to the one against Spiritomb, with Gus using Moon Blast/Dazzling Gleam to damage Umbreon, while using Gige Drain/Moonlight + the HP he recovers each turn from Ingrain to keep his HP up.

Lance
Salamence vs Nemesis

Here we go. The final champion.

To start things off, Armin will bring out Nemesis. Nemesis is a dark/water type, which gives her a resistance to Salamence’s fire and dark attacks.

To begin, Armin will use mega-evolution to evolve Nemesis into Mega-Sharpedo. This will change her ability to Strong Jaw, which powers up her biting moves. First she will use Crunch a few times in a row to lower Salamence’s defence. After that, she will switch to using Ice Fang. Not only is Salamence very weak to ice attacks, but as another biting type move, this one too will be boosted by her mega ability. Should Ice Fang not prove to be enough, she also has Ice Beam to follow things up with.

Gyarados vs Circinus

Gyarados is a flying/water type. That means it has a 4x weakness to electric. Circinus is an electric type. The math is pretty simply here. And the strategy should be very familiar at this point. Charge + Thunder, repeat if necessary.

Garchomp vs Gus

For this match-up, Armin will withdraw Circinus and instead bring out Gus. Gus, being a grass/fairy type, is immune to dragon attacks. Additionally, he has a resistance against ground attacks. Garchomp, meanwhile, has a weakness to fairy type moves.

To start off, Armin will have Gus ingrain himself to regain some HP on each turn. After that, he’ll switch to using Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam. He’s got Giga Drain and Moonlight for when his HP starts getting low. Additionally, because of Effect Spore, there is a chance Garchomp will end up poisoned/paralysed/asleep. If Garchomp ends up asleep at any point, Armin will have Gus use Dream Eater for that damage + HP regain.

Altaria vs Amadeus

Against Altaria, Armin will bring out Amadeus. Apart from one fairy type move, neither of these two pokemon actually has much of a resistance/weakness against the other, so mainly this is going to be a bird on bird brawl.

To start, Armin will have Amadeus use Moonblast, for that fairy type damage, but he’ll also try beating Altaria down using Amadeus’ many psychic attacks, especially ones like Zen Heatbutt, Hypnosis and Confusion which have the chance of inflicting status effects. Should Amadeus’ HP get low, Armin will have him roost, or, if Altaria is asleep, have him use Dream Eater.

Armin is fully aware that Amadeus might not be enough to bring down Altaria, so he is keeping Octavius in reserve to jump in if Amadeus goes down. Octavius has a weakness to flying type, but Armin hopes that at that point, Altaria is already low enough in HP, that despite that weakness, he can bring it down with Octavius’ damage dealing steel attacks.

Charizard vs Nemesis

For this battle, Armin will bring back out Nemesis. She is a water/dark type who resists fire. Charizard, meanwhile, has a weakness to water. Additionally, Charizard has many contact moves, and with her ability Rough Skin that means Nemesis will deal damage to Charizard each time it makes contact with her.

During the battle, Armin is obviously going to be focussing on Nemesis’ water type moves. Between Aqua Jet, Surf, and Waterfall, he intends to all but flood the battle area, until Charizard is out for the count.

Dragonite vs Gus

This is it. (This is finally it). For this final match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis and bring out faithful old Gus. Again, being Grass/Fairy, Gus is totally immune to Dragonite’s dragon type attacks. He also has some additional resistance to electric/water moves which Dragonite has a few off too. The only issue here is a weakness to flying attacks. Meanwhile Dragonite is weak to fairy type moves.

If Gus’ HP is low from his previous fight, Armin will first heal him up, before ordering him to use ingrain (for that little bit of an HP boost every round). After that, he’ll try once to see if he can put Dragonite to sleep using Sleep Powder but if that doesn’t work, he’ll switch to using Moonblast and Dazzling gleam, while using Giga Drain and Moonlight to recover HP. If Dragonite falls asleep at any point during this match, he’ll also use Dream Eater on it.

Also! I have two questions for if/when Armin wins.

First of all, Armin will be bringing his Sobble to the match (he hasn't been caught yet, so he is just a witness). If he presents Sobble to the five champions, will they have any insight or tips for him?

Secondly, about Lance's dragon type egg. Does the pokemon need to hatch as a dragon or is it also cool if it evolves into a dragon? AKA, can Armin have a Horsea?
