    Character
    Name: Carly Nagisa
    Series: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds
Timeline: '(Second) Death' - End Ep 59, after turning into Dust (Carly's Canon Point is technically a spoiler to those intending to watch 5D's. Please be aware of this before highlighting)
Canon Resource Links: Here! If you're planning to ever watch Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, please note that this link (and the personality below) contain heavy spoilers for the first season of the show.

Personality: When it comes to describing Carly, her entire casual 'look' appears to give it away. From the thick layered glasses to the less than optimal fashion choices, everything screams 'Clutzy Ditz'- she stammers when she's nervous, fumbles and drops things constantly, and when the going gets tough in her business life? It just gets tougher, and Carly gets trampled. The girl just can't catch a break- but for all the traits of a 'failure', she has a surprising amount of hidden depth that comes forward not only in her brief period as a villain but also before it.

The thing that contributes the most to her failings after all, is her tendency to try too hard; Carly is carried away by her emotions with dramatic ease, ranging from wide grins and smug glares when she thinks she's in the lead on something, to frustrated sputtering shouts when she's threatened, all the way to literal waterfalls of tears when it seems she has no way out other than despair. These emotional displays aren't simply gags either- Carly's tears during her breakdown over becoming a Dark Signer can only be interpreted as heartbreaking, and there is no doubt that her emotions are genuine when on the screen.

It is easy however, to forget those genuine moments- as Carly is typically not a 'violent' person after all, her anger does not appear 'threatening' despite it being the emotion she is most prone to being caught up in. Not even when she herself feels no threat in the given moment- when those she feels superior to challenge her words, she flares up and snaps out protests without pause. Unfortunately, this means either turning accusations on the other, or snipping out hair-thin excuses of varying amounts of sense.

Carly is already open with her words as it is. If it isn't carelessly snapping at someone she doesn't like when she thinks she can get away with it, it's when she's apologizing to someone she couldn't get away with talking back to. For all that Carly shrinks down and apologizes profusely if she's crossed a line (or upset someone she cares for), she'll still be caught in the action of the moment, slipping in comments and protests while jumping ahead of herself- an easy example being her eager 'It's my turn!' while dueling alongside Jack Atlas, only for the man to counter that it's his turn- a quick 'sorry' being her nervous reply. It's an almost instinctive response when Carly feels the need to jerk away from a situation to apologize. Her head ducked down, and her voice shrilled.

Such defensive measures could easily be based in self preservation- in a rare moment of quiet introspection, she can be seen promising herself that she would never again be forced to live 'that way'- which is to say, on the streets. Her car itself shows proof that she has lived in it, and her actions as a reporter prove that she's familiar with less-than-honorable actions- not to mention, an unexpected degree of intelligence. She picks the perfect bribe for an informant while seeking access to a large organization building for investigation, and has at least enough skill in reading emotions to know what to say to learn what she needs. Carly can certainly act like and BE a fool- but it does not necessarily make her a complete one, and self-preservation is a 'smart' trait. With her behavior regarding her editor- panicked promises to have stories ready on time, no matter the cost- it wouldn't be surprising for her to focus on her own situation over others.

And Carly is absolutely selfish, even for more than just 'safety' reasons. From seeking out Jack Atlas for her story, and then seeking out 'Arcadia' and the 'Signers' simply for the excuse to see him again- and even the wish which allowed her to rise from the dead- Carly's pursuits are without a doubt 'selfish'.

But she also regrets those selfish attitudes after each and every incident, however late the thoughts may be. Carly is at her core a kind person, someone whose dream as a child was to simply witness and share the news of others doing their best. She empathizes incredibly with the struggles of others, and it is that empathy which allows her to realize the emotional pain Jack is in and therefore put her career aside to help him- even before she realizes she's fallen in love with him. She is the one who convinces him to become a 'King for the People', and more importantly the one who goes from seeing him as a source of information to someone who would nurse his injuries while hiding in her home.

It is a child-like level of kindness and selfishness, truly. She is quick to snap back and draw back, quick to grin over her achievements with over-exaggerated self-praise, and most notably quick to react emotively to a given situation, regardless of the intelligence she has. She has many, many wants- but her kindness trumps it all, and time and time again her heart caves to the situations of the Other. Her near innocence, displaying itself in quirks such as oddball remarks or attempts to fortune tell her way through the day with cards only adds to this.

And this attitude is only supported by her actions as a Dark Signer. For all that the Dark Signers were revived to face the Signers, Carly is notable in that she is at least partly possessed and manipulated through most of her actions. After she first unleashes vengeance upon her murderer, she comes to her senses with absolutely no memory of the incident- and under the influence of the Earthbound God who revived her, she is practically a 'dark mirror' of herself. Her charming habit of drawing cards to tell fortunes becomes an obsession with fate- becoming hellbent on defeating Jack to be 'eternally bound' to his side, and worse, relishing in his struggles and physical injury. It is a 'side' of her exaggerated from her worst points, that her best points band against to fight back. Carly is the only one of the Dark Signers so clearly 'possessed' by her god, who is able to counter the effects enough to change her 'fate'- to force her duel into a loss, sparing both the one she loves, and the world as a consequence.

She is determined, smart, and above all kind.

It just takes a bit to find those points behind the stammering and glasses.

[[OOC - Mild warning that Carly's introspection will involve the events leading to her death/including it. While not graphic, it bears reason for a heads up.]]

Before she even opened her eyes, she could hear music. It started quiet- almost muffled in fact (which was possibly in part because she had her ears surrounded by pillow- but then again very likely not).

It slowly grew louder however, enough that she couldn't help but stir into consciousness. With a groan, Carly sat up. Her head was pounding- and so was the rest of her actually. She wondered if she should really be surprised. Being knocked off a bike the way she had been, she'd have had bruises for weeks if she hadn't lost the-

"AH-! JACK-!" Carly exclaims, eyes shooting open to a blurred and hazy room. She blinks multiple times before realizing the vision won't clear, and fumbles around at her sides until she feels something hard. It's only instinct that has her searching- by the time her fingers wrap around the broken set of glasses she'd been wearing, she realizes she shouldn't have been wearing them to begin with.

She only wore those for a few seconds before she turned to dust in Jack's arms.

Glasses set upon her face, the events from her last memories come crashing down into her mind, ignorant to the beat of the music in her ears. What meets her eyes is almost painfully normal however, even compared to the room she had in Old Momentum with the Dark Signers. She's in a bed- simple, but certainly adequate enough for a comfortable sleep. There's a desk beside the bed even, with a letter and two desk ornaments that look a bit like stress balls. Or maybe they are stress balls?

    They're some kind of ball.

Staring around the room for a few moments, she doesn't even know if she should move. She lost. She lost, she remembers that much, and yet instead of the irritated voice of Aslla Piscu punishing her for it, she can hear nothing but song. Peaceful, even comforting, and it doesn't make sense.

Unbidden, tears start welling in her eyes, and she wraps her arms around herself. She's supposed to be gone, isn't she? Slowly she looks down over her outfit- the same uniform of the Dark Signers- and then back around the room. This can't be the Netherworld. This can't be the realm where the Earthbound are, well, bound- the realm that she's supposed to be in, because it was either that or Jack never would have succeeded, and then the Signers would have lost, and the world would have...

"KHn...Mnh..." She chokes, covering her face for a moment while trying not to cry too hard. She can handle this, Carly tells herself as she shakily gets off the bed. She can! Something is obviously...different, about what's going on after all. And even though it hurts, even though she's gone she did that on purpose hadn't she?

She didn't want to be a Dark Signer in the first place, so it was for the best that she manage to turn against them long enough for Jack to land the final blow.

Her hands shaking, Carly reaches for the letter on the desk, only know noticing some sort of digital device near it- a backpack upon the chair. It's more of a note than a letter, she realizes with confusion. The music is still humming (really, what kind of place is this? It's like being in an elevator. ...Almost.)- it's not too loud, but it's hard to ignore as well, which she's beginning to find is for the best.

It's a good distraction from the shock.

"...'Welcome to Team Rocket'..?" she reads, blinking rapidly at the paper. She closes the eye behind her broken lens before adjusting her glasses again, re-reading the first few sentences again. It's certainly written casually enough. And....strangely enough for that matter (even she wasn't recruited this abruptly with the Dark Signers, right? ....Well, maybe she was if she thinks about it). And-

"Heh? That's what these balls are for?" Carly asks to no one, blinking at the orbs. And more alarmingly she realizes, reading the last two points (that fifth one is certainly more than she got out of any work place, she notes bitterly, and she wonders if it's actually an Honest Rule)...

"'We don't know why you're com-' H-Heh!? This music isn't their fault!?" she hisses, rapidly searching the walls with her eyes. She would have thought it was hidden speakers, or even normal speakers but it's actually in her head?!

Her hands still shaking, Carly tentatively takes the pokeballs from the desk- and proceeds to collapse back onto the bed to a seat, staring dumbly at them. She needs to think. And sort out her situation, she notes to herself. First point...she definitely died, didn't she? Wiping a few tears with her elbow and grimacing when she nearly scratches it on the broken lens, Carly nods. Right. That definitely happened. Aslla Piscu possessed her to try and make her win, and then she'd fought back so that Jack would be forced to win instead. They'd had their final words, while she laid against his arms and...

Alright, point two- she looks up from the pokeballs (it said 'pokemon', and these are balls, so they are Pokeballs now, she's decided). This is not the netherworld. That's supposed to be like...some sort of Evil God Prison or something. Something where demons go. She was supposed to go there.

    She very obviously hasn't.

Point...Three. She's instead woken up in a new place, very alive- she rests the pokeballs on her lap for just a minute to check her pulse, and she sure isn't a zombie anymore, so that's exciting- yet she's in the clothes she had when she died...

There's instructions, a new 'team' to be part of (a cafeteria sounds nice at least, and being on the winning team is an ominous statement in itself but maybe her luck has come through this time?), and...

    Music. There's music.

The pokeballs roll off her lap and crash to the ground, Carly yelping loudly as a 'puppet' with a stick tail, and some sort of little (large) salamander appears near the cracked open things.

She stares at them for about two seconds, and collapses back on the bed.

    ".....H...Haaaaaauuuh...I'm in an isekai..."

She'd best get that uniform on, and figure out what this 'new life' is going to be. At least it'll be better than the netherworld, she thinks.

    Series: Tenchi Muyo!
    Timeline: Post-OVA 3
Canon Resource Links: https://tenchi.fandom.com/wiki/Sasami (NOTE: Only the “Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki” section)

Personality: On the outside, Sasami's easily the little sister you want to have in your house and the picture perfect vision of the perfect housewife. Sweet, adorable and lovable to a fault, Sasami is always one to put a smile on anyone's faces. She's always shown to be helpful around the house, to the point where she's almost a workaholic - she hates the idea of getting sick because if she does, that means the house might end up falling apart without her. This is mostly due to the fact that she feels that she needs to pay back for the hospitality, no matter how much they say she doesn't need to.

Despite being a sweetheart, Sasami has shown a more stern side, willing to put her foot down when needed and defend. When her father, Emperor Azusa, came to take away Sasami and her sister Ayeka, she first told him no... then said that if he forced her, she'd hate him forever. And when a Galaxy Police officer attempted to capture Sasami, she easily fought back, defeating her with ease.

As well, Sasami is also somewhat of a prankster, though this rarely rears its face. When she first appeared to Tenchi, she pranked him into trying to get Ayeka's headpiece, knowing full well that he'd pull something boneheaded like taking the sword she swiped from him. If she thinks she can get a rise out of anyone, she'll be more than happy to do this, but she's pretty much tempered down from that sort of thing.

A major aspect of Sasami that may or may not come into effect here is her strange situation between her and the Goddess Tsunami, in that she considers herself nothing more than a vessel for the goddess and feels that the real Sasami is dead. While this subject has been laid to rest in canon in that her loved ones don't consider her any different and treat her as the real Sasami, especially since she truly is and only thinks this way because of her young mind processing it this way, it shouldn't be a problem here as she'll be disconnected from Tsunami and any traits from that, especially seeing the goddess' reflection in water, is removed.

    Timeline: Post-movie
    Canon Resource Links:
    Into the Spider-Verse on Wikipedia
    Olivia on the Marvel Wiki
    Liv on the Villains Wiki

    Personality:
Olivia Octavius is driven solely by the pursuit of scientific advancement, apparently for its own sake. During the course of the movie’s events, she’s focused on getting her dimensional collider to run and deliberately pull specific people -parallel timeline doubles of Wilson Fisk’s family- from their own universe into hers. She has no actual interest in reuniting the Fisks specifically; anyone pulled into a different universe is doomed to eventually and painfully disintegrate as their cells break down. Olivia is well aware of this, even before getting the chance to study cellular material from an alternate Peter Parker. Her assurance to Fisk that he can have “as many families as [he] wants” indicates she’s pretty okay with this -token objections to destroying all of Manhattan aside- as long as she gets to keep working on and improving the collider. In a deleted scene, she makes a vague comment about “the power of the multiverse” before ollying-outtie into the collapsing dimensional portal, but this is the only time she expresses anything close to interest in an actual application of the technology for selfish reasons. As far as the rest of the movie and the final cut is concerned, she might as well be doing it just because it’s cool. (And honestly, aside from the whole “black hole under Manhattan” thing, can we blame her? It’s pretty cool.) She’s also entirely unburdened by the morality -or lack thereof- in her work, aside from the aforementioned objections about sinking Manhattan into a black hole (and honestly, there’s a good chance she lives there). Aside from having zero compunction about dooming possibly numerous instances of innocent people to painful cellular degeneration, Olivia is almost gleeful in her attempts to murder not only Peter but Miles - to her, a total stranger and teenaged boy- in her efforts to recover her research and cow memes. She also keeps the fact that his new inter-dimensional family will be doomed to painful death from Fisk, since he’s the one funding her fun new toys.

Despite her proclivity for violence and amoral pursuit of scientific advancement, Olivia puts forward a polite, congenial public persona that’s not entirely a facade. Entirely aside from being a PBS-style figure of public science education -her first appearance is in the form of a video explaining relativity, being shown to Miles’ class- she’s perfectly capable of being pleasant and affable immediately before and even during her attempts at mayhem and murder. It would be easy to dismiss this as lying, and she’s definitely capable of deception, but it’s worth noting that during her excited examination of Peter B that she didn’t notably set off either his or Miles’ spider sense; implying that until she outright started trying to kill Peter, her scientific curiosity was genuine enough to at least temporarily quell her hateboner. Or at least her grudge against Spider-man wasn’t more dangerous than just the possibility of being caught in the middle of one of Kingpin’s buildings. Likewise, she’s genuinely excited when Spider-Gwen shows herself is entirely genuine, despite another Spider-person representing a significant threat to her work. As she herself states later, it means the collider works, and that’s the important thing.

Her biggest flaw -aside from the utter lack of morality, if you consider that a flaw- is a tendency to get fixated on details to the detriment of the larger picture. As noted above regarding her reaction to Gwen’s appearance, not only is Liv absolutely delighted at this potential monkey-wrench, she seems to not realize she’s about to get her face kicked in until about a second before it happens. Similarly, when Peter B and Miles steal her desktop, she’s too intent on first examining and then murdering Peter to notice her computer bobbling away through the air until she catches Miles in a brief moment of visibility. This despite Peter’s constant and increasingly desperate denials that EVERYTHING IS FINE to thin air during their fight. This carries over into the final fight of the movie, in which she’s fixated enough on the Spider-people to not notice a large, interdimensional semi speeding straight at her through the air.

Also, just as a small aside note? She’s dramatic as all fuck. That coat drop during her villain reveal to Beter was dramatic enough on its own, as is the way she predator-stalks through the air despite her actual human limbs having zero to do with her fighting or locomotion. But probably the biggest piece of evidence for this is that when she’s tracking Miles and finds a tree he’s hidden behind, she doesn’t just cut through the trunk or toss it aside, she cuts through it vertically and rips it in two. There is no explanation for this besides a ridiculous thirst for drama.

It’s also part Psychic type, which is frequently associated with Scientist type trainers and NPCs in canon, and fits with Olivia’s notable intellect. Additionally, a major part of Olivia’s MO is presenting a very enthusiastic, innocent persona before and even while tearing someone’s face off, so a “cute” looking Pokémon also fits thematically.

Is anyone here familiar with the "Star Trek Problem"?

[Everyone ready for a science lesson? No? Too bad, Liv's got a blackboard set up.]

It's an interesting thought experiment and philosophical problem that springs from certain types of theoretical teleportation.

[She scoots to the side, gesturing at the blackboard; it currently shows two side-by-side figures, labeled 'A' and 'B', with a wavy arrow pointing between them.]

One of the most commonly postulated forms of fast-travel suggested involves the object- or person- being broken down into data, or some type of energy signal, by a device at Point A-

    [Tapping the appropriately labelled figure.]

-and transmitted to a receiving device at Point B-

[Again, indicating the figures on the blackboard.]

-where the data is reassembled into the person or object being sent. The "problem" is this- the actual physical particles of the person being teleported aren't what's transmitted, just a sort of electronic pattern or data file, and a living being certainly couldn't survive molecular disassembly anyway.

[She deftly but pointedly erases figure A from the board.]

So, the question becomes- is the person that arrives at Point B really the same one that left Point A? Is the "you" that comes out the other side really you, or just a perfect clone with all your memories? And is there any real difference between the two?

[Liv sounds way too cheerful for someone discussing something this morbid.]

The good news is, this problem is a lot less theoretical in this universe than in others!

[She moves over again, to a small PokéPC setup and- deftly deposits a Pokéball into the system.]

The PC storage system in this world is VERY similar to the systems that were only theories back home. It presents a unique opportunity to study the phenomena in a real environment! Or just something potentially interesting to think about next time you swap around members of your Pokémon team.

[A cheery wave towards the camera, before the transmission ends.]

    Good day everyone!

    Timeline: Postgame (Pacifist)
    Canon Resource Links: https://deltarune.fandom.com/wiki/Susie

    Personality:
Susie starts as the school bully—the person nobody wants to be anywhere near. Even her teacher seems to be afraid of her. She’s cold and cruel, at least starting out. Her Thing is threatening to bite people’s faces off when they piss her off. It’s a mystery why nobody seems to want to be around her. After she gets stuck in the Dark World™ though, she’s forced to work together with two nerds as a hero, which goes. Poorly. She switches sides and befriends a young prince named Lancer. And while she still seems cruel, she seems to make fast friends with the prince. She’s the happiest she’s ever been concocting (really bad) evil plans with the little goofball. By the end of the game she seems to have warmed up a bit after learning the meaning of ️‍🌈 friendship! ️‍🌈 She’s still a force to be reckoned with, though.

Susie is always ready to throw down. Even after warming up and becoming a real hero, she’s still menacing and violence-prone. Her first instinct is usually to F I G H T, though she seems to be able to listen to reason when influenced by close friends. When she feels betrayed by Lancer in-game, she attacks and threatens to kill him unless he gets out of her way. It ultimately ends up turning out alright, but helps demonstrate her volatile nature—especially when hurt emotionally. She admits she didn’t really want to kill him, though she still attacked him relentlessly to get him to get out of her way (as opposed to, y’know. Talking to him). Additionally, by the end of the game she’s incredibly and aggressively protective of those she cares about, though that list is real small.

For a hero who is destined to save the world and fight evil, Susie’s far from a saint. She’s vicious and terrifying, yet scarily protective. She’s a brute who tends to fight her way through problems when left to her own devices. She’s not used to the whole “caring about people” deal, but she’s starting to learn. There’s a lot of potential for her to grow by the end of this first chapter of Deltarune, and it seems like her future is bright.

There wasn’t a ton of initial reason other than that, and I gave Susie a Gible in the 4th wall event (since I could without needing to justify it). Normally I see Gible as kinda ferocious (as ferocious as they can really be at that size, anyway), but I set up a dynamic I kinda fell in love with. Her Gible is shy and meek, and isn’t great at defending itself. Susie had to save it from a flock of angry bird Pokemon, and has since started to train it to stand up for itself and be... Well, more ferocious. It’s started to bring out her protective and caring side. I love shy Gible, and I feel like it brings out the best in Susie. I’d love to carry him over from the 4th wall event!

    Name: Keith
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
    Timeline: End of S1
Canon Resource Links: Character wikia // Series wiki

    Personality:
In early seasons of Voltron, Keith can be most succinctly described as a bullheaded, socially awkward shitchild with a reckless streak and abandonment issues strong enough to generate a gravitational field. In dealing with people in day to day situations, Keith is usually dry, occasionally snarky, and just a little too blunt for his own good.

...And that’s if there isn't a disagreement happening. If he's pissed off, he does not hold back from getting belligerent to get his point across. Though it takes some provocation, this can turn into fist fights as Keith is often stubborn enough about getting his way that he doesn't back down without one. People know exactly where they stand with him whether they want to know or not ...and really? That’s just fine with Keith because at the end of the day, he doesn’t care if he’s liked or not; he’s there to make sure that what’s necessary is done.

How does Keith determine what’s necessary, you ask? While he has a fairly strong sense of right and wrong overall and will usually argue for the position that is beneficial to the greatest number of people, there are a few things that make him somewhat polarizing to work with. First, just because something is "wrong" doesn't mean Keith immediately rules it out as an option. As an example, he's the only one who considers not rescuing Allura as the attempt could jeopardize the rest of the team. Another example is when he threatens the Olkari king in order to get his team to safety. Second, he drops objectivity and becomes incredibly tunnel visioned when something is threatening the safety of those he truly cares about. As shown in his relationship to Shiro, Keith shows an incredible amount of loyalty to the people he holds close as he quite literally almost gets everyone killed on an ill-advised mission because he was too focused on trying to end the war early in order to go looking for Shiro after his disappearance in S2.

This extreme level of loyalty may seem somewhat contradictory for the one paladin that is called out for being "the lone wolf" of the group in a show that's demonstrably about the power of teamwork, but it all has roots in the multitude of complexes that form the basis of Keith's negative self worth. As an infant he was abandoned by his mother for reasons unknown to him and his father died in an accident while he was still a child. He grew up orphaned and quickly became deemed a "disciplinary case" that wasn't worth anyone's time due to his inability to productively channel his negative emotions. As such he grew up internalizing harmful ideas about his worth and despite his attempts to prove people wrong about him, falls into self defeating patterns of self sabotage because he believes nobody will give him a chance anyway.

In other words, while Keith may dislike feeling isolated and being treated with indifference, what he tends to actually fear is active rejection and abandonment. Keith puts walls up to the moon in order to keep other people out as a means of self defense from what he perceives as being somewhat inevitable. If his mother left him after all, anyone can. Though Keith is incredibly brave when it comes to facing down physical, tangible threats like monsters and evil alien empires, his psychological fears draw out a very different side of him. As we see in later seasons, when Keith's confronted with the idea that his friends all hate him, he immediately grows combative, defensive and then makes an attempt to abandon them all in space because he can't face their anger head on. When he's confronted with the possibility of not being "good enough" to be the leader of Voltron, he immediately rejects the position and has to be coaxed into stepping up.

In short, while Keith's certainly capable of overcoming many of his demons (and does exactly this during the course of Voltron), his character is one that's riddled with seemingly contradictory elements. He's confident in his abilities... so long as he's not responsible for anyone other than himself, he's brave .... as long as he's not dealing with any psychological demons and so on. But where his flaws hold him back, he chases after his goals with persistence second to none.

[Keith leans outside the lab in New Bark Town, arms folded. Teeth grit and already looking like he wants to punch something. It’s hard to say how long it’s been since he woke up because of this bizarre music in an unfamiliar house by a strange woman who insists on calling herself his mother. Already there’s just so… so much to unpack in all this and the repetitive background noise isn’t helping him get his mind straight. Whatever wormhole he fell into, it’s clearly done a doozy in landing him in some weird planet.

Still wouldn’t explain why Red is gone. Or why someone would try to mess with his head by posing as his mom. His mom left him and his dad before he could even talk so what the hell kind of prank is--

An insistent growling from beside him interrupts
    ]

    Houndour. Hound...

    [Unthinking, he snaps:]

Can you just be quiet for a minute?! There’s a major problem and I don’t have time for y--....

[He trails off into silence as Houndour’s ears fold back, cowed. The inappropriately cheerful music plays on and Keith simply stares. He didn't ask for an (admittedly) cool looking devil puppy to be placed in his care so he doesn't have any responsibility for taking care of it or anything, but as Houndour turns, an inexplicable amount of shame makes him bite his lip.]

Wait, Wait, okay, look. I didn’t mean-- [He sighs, kneeling down to be at eye level.] I’m sorry, alright? I just… I’ve got a lot going on right now, it’s not your fault.

[God why do things have to be like this? He holds out his hand for the pokémon to sniff, then gently pets the doggo’s head.]

But I guess you’re gonna be my partner for a little while, huh? You have a name?

    Houndour.

    [Keith blinks.]

Okay. So is Houndour your name or is it the only thing you can say?

    Name: Tiny Tina
    Series: Borderlands
Timeline: From the end of Commander Lilith DLC

    Personality:

Tina is somewhat stunted in her emotional development, likely as a result of having to grow up on her own after she and her parents were sold to Hyperion for horrible experiments and she escaped. This reflects itself in her childlike way she behaves adopting various voices and playing games or hosting tea parties. This coping mechanism has been warped somewhat by the bloody and violent nature of Pandora so she barely bats an eyelash at gore, violence and adult content. What she really has a problem with is confronting her feelings of loss when it comes to loved ones. She doesn't talk about her parents though she went out of her way to get the Vault Hunters to bring her the man responsible for them being sold to Hyperion so she could torture them to death.

She also didn't deal well with the death of her friend and substitute father figure Roland. She was in complete denial of it going so far as to create an elaborate fantasy story structured around a table top roleplaying game so she could pretend he wasn't dead and ignore the fact that they were planning on holding a funeral for him. Eventually with the help of that game and the Vault Hunters she was able to face the truth and accept that while the people we love may be taken away from us, they'll always be a apart of us so long as we remember them.

She's decidedly capable at surviving apparently as she was able to not only find a home for herself in Tundra Express. Either she built it in a cave under a mountain or she stole it from the previous owner...likely by force but one thing is clear. Her ability to build dangerous explosives and other implements or torture has allowed her to live by herself despite the threat of Bandits, Hyperion Agents and the local wildlife all of which have no qualms about killing kids. She does tend to call upon her friends for help though perhaps recognizing that explosions can only get her so far. She like many of the residents of Pandora would rather call upon the mythical vault hunters to do things for her then do all the leg work herself. Mostly because it's fun to watch.

    Character
    Name: John Egbert
    Series: Homestuck (+ Epilogues)
Timeline: The very end of his presence in the Meat Epilogue.
Canon Resource Links: There is so much in the wiki, this should be more than enough! LMK if it’s like. Confusing because it’s a fanwiki and people who already understand canon wrote it.
Personality: John is the sort of guy that things happen at rather than one who necessarily has any control over a situation. On the surface, he seems to be the token everyman character. People call him the leader. He loves his friends a bunch. He’s friendly and dorky and a bit clueless. And without a strong purpose or a central conflict or something very specific he’s been told to do, he feels clueless and empty. Throughout the main plot of Homestuck, John just keeps going. He has to beat the game, so he tries his best to level up, following any instructions he’s given by people he identifies as probably more intelligent than he is, which leads to his death on multiple occasions. Without fail, he prioritises helping his friends and progressing in the game over himself. And while this does wear on him, while his own deaths and the death of his father and his friends build up inside him, he keeps them inside. It isn’t even strictly a case of surface-level repression. John pushes down all of the tragedy he experiences to a point where he doesn’t even actually realise he isn’t ok. When it comes out, it tends to come out as anger directed at something frivolous like finding out a favourite candy of his is made by a company he dislikes, or an unkind prank played on him by a friend. John doesn’t let himself feel sad at first because he doesn’t have the time, he keeps being interrupted by circumstance or whatever purpose he sees as more important than himself. But by the time his session fails and he comes across the battle he missed (because he was venting his emotions being mad at a sexist tool in a dumb cape) he’s pretty much numb. He watches one of the only living people left in his session sob as she buries one of his longtime best friends and just looks faintly sad. Rose expects him to throw a fit when he finds out the Big Bad is the head of his least favourite company and he just. Doesn’t. He can’t let himself feel any of his real big emotions anymore. They don’t help the game.

As far as his strong purpose or path, he doesn’t allow himself to stop. In the failed session, Roxy expresses wanting to just sit down, accept they failed, and wait to fade away, and he can’t accept that. He wants to do something. Terezi showing up and giving him a last minute purpose before she dies is probably a big reason for why he ends up with a crush on her. Without a big purpose or a path, he stagnates. After the end of Homestuck, during the Credits, you see John winding down. He’s invested in building up Earth C at first, when that’s still a task that needs to be accomplished, but year by year you watch him draw back from his friends, and isolate himself. By the time the Epilogues start, it’s been ages since he’s properly talked to or seen most of them. He has no purpose, but he still has his block up, preventing him from actually engaging. He doesn’t know how to exist like a normal person, or let his feelings loose now that he has the time. The version of John I’d be bringing in never even tries to change. He stays in his depression funk in his house and then almost immediately follows the first list of instructions he’s given, just to have a meaningful purpose again.

When he has a purpose, John is fiercely loyal to his friends, motivated and caring. He doesn’t always think his words through, and can say some accidentally pretty hurtful or blunt things, but he means well. When he takes the time to think, he’s really thoughtful and sometimes more perceptive about people than anyone gives him credit. He knows that Rose cares a lot about her friends, for instance, despite the thick layer of sarcasm and bullshit she communicates through. Once he’s had time to meet Karkat, he doesn’t take his rudeness seriously either, because he knows he’s a good guy. He definitely seeks out people who can challenge him, for friendships. He wants people who can be an asshole right back, or engage in playful jibes. When he doesn’t like a person, though, because they’re irredeemably mean or an asshole, he gives it right back, and is purposefully shitty to them (instead of accidentally). Overall, though, when mentally well, he’s almost overwhelmingly friendly to people, practically bludgeoning them in the face with it. The fact that he apparently hasn’t spoken to many of his friends for months in the Epilogue is pretty much the biggest indicator that he’s not OK.

John Egbert wakes up and he's crying. It's not like he sobbed himself awake, he just...feels wetter than usual, in the cheekbone area, and one ticklish line running down into his left ear. It's sad because he's dead, he thinks, certain in his sleepy haze, and because he's pretty sure he never got to tell Terezi he--he never got to say what he wanted. And now he's woke up dead.

It’s ok, though, it’s kind of a relief. Plus, he saved reality or essential…ness or whatever it was Rose was talking about so his big quest job’s done! Saving Terezi by getting her to come home was probably his reward. Now he gets to just, uh, lie here, dead…with his feet loose out the bottom of, uh, a platform he’s on? Hm. John begins to think he may be less dead than he originally anticipated. Did Terezi bring him to Jane after all? It’s weird, because he had felt so sure that that was it for him but oh well! He guesses he might as well open his eyes.

There’s not a lot in whoever’s room of whosever’s house he’s in. There’s the bed that’s too small, and a couple posters of Pokémon on the walls along with a simplified colourful Pokémon map. That doesn’t strike him as a very Jane room to have. Maybe he’s at Jake’s mansion? That seems more likely, if underdecorated for the kind of person he is pretty sure Jake is. There should be at least 15 more posters, he thinks, and 700% more awful Pokémon figurines. Wherever he is, someone’s brought him one of his spare pairs of glasses and, oddly, put them on him while he slept, because he can see the room without the whole thing dissolving into a colourful blur.

He guesses he should probably get up? Work out whose dumb mansion he’s in, go thank Jane, find or avoid Terezi, depending on how much he’s feeling like a really difficult conversation, haha, actually he won’t think about that, never mind! But he’s really not feeling it. That’s probably fair! He did just fight the Big Big Boss. Nobody would blame him if he just went back to sleep. But he should really check in on Rose, maybe he should get up after all and sleep later?

The door opens and makes the decision for him by not being Jane, or Terezi, or even Jake, but a friendly-looking middle aged woman who pokes her head in, smiles warmly at him and says, “You better get up, sweetie, it’s your big day! All kids leave home eventually!” John manages to make a noise that sounds like “Hweh?” before she leans back out of the room and closes the door. Who? What? He half lifts up to follow her before she leaves, then ends up swinging his legs out of bed. After a moment, he leans his elbows on his knees and his head in his hands.

For a moment John wonders, wildly, if his entire life so far has just been a really long and shitty dream. It would certainly figure!

    Character
    Name: Winston Zeddemore
    Series: The Real Ghostbusters
Timeline: Post-"Hole in the Wall Gang"
Canon Resource Links: His Ghostbusters wiki page.

    Personality:
To quote an excerpt from his character reference sheet, "Of the four, he is the most pragmatic, the one with his feet set most firmly on solid ground. Where the others might not see a practical solution to a problem, it's Winston who cuts through the nonsense and gives his all to end the danger." True to that description, Winston has a very down-to-earth disposition about him. He's not one for getting distracted from the task at hand, and often serves as the voice of reason to get the rest back on track if need be. ...this responsibility often proves very taxing on his patience, so it should come as no surprise that the "voice" he uses to express his reasoning is often tinged with a strong dose of exasperated sarcasm. Look, he's only human.

In terms of interests, Winston is shown to be fairly bookish. In "Doctor, Doctor" he specifically requested Janine bring him Melville and Dickens novels to read while bedridden in the hospital. Later on, "Boo-Dunit" establishes he has a special fondness for the mystery genre that's given him a serious knack for predicting the endings to stories he's never even seen before... much to the chagrin of everyone unfortunate enough to invite him over for movie night, as he will blurt out every plot twist as soon as he figures it out. In a similar vein, "The Devil to Pay" reveals he and Ray make a habit of tuning into televised game shows together, subsequently getting really into the quiz portions- to the point of having heated arguments over what the right answers are while they're both watching along. ...it seems Winston's the sort of person who loves thought puzzles and takes great pride in proving himself right through his ability to solve them.

But aside from that point of pride, Winston decidedly doesn't display much of an ego on his own. He's not in the habit of holding grudges when it comes to being personally slighted, and puts far more stock into defending the ghostbusters as a group than himself as an individual. In fact, he's so adamant in his insistence that ghostbusting is a team effort that he flat-out refused to compete for the title of "Ghostbuster of the Year" out of protest, and acted incredulous when his partners all went along with it anyway, because he viewed their participation in the contest as nothing more than selfishly splintering the team to put more priority on their own aspirations. ...although, one can also argue part of his resistance towards the competition could be that he believed he'd never have a chance of winning on his own to begin with. After all, in "Mr. Sandman, Dream Me A Dream" when the rest of the team were incapacitated and he was left to fight the Sandman by himself, he laments that "I wish the others were here... Peter would know what to do... Egon, Ray, they'd build what they needed... I'm not a scientist." ...it seems he has a bit of a self-doubting streak, actually, given that this isn't the only episode with a conflict hinging on Winston being the only one capable of defeating the monster of the week, and him being unable to do so until he first learns to believe in himself (the other being "Moaning Stones").

However, despite the lapses in confidence he may experience along the way, he never wavers when it comes to doing his best to keep people safe, even if he has to do it alone. In "The Boogieman Cometh", Winston breaks away from the team so he can drive to their clients' home late at night to stand guard and ward off the Boogieman that's been periodically emerging from their closet- deciding to stay put there so he can keep giving them his protection until the rest of the team can form a permanent solution to the problem. Meanwhile, in "Night Game", when he explicitly consults his coworkers about a supernatural event he witnessed at a baseball game, Egon tells him they can't investigate the area yet because they'd need to wait until morning to get a permit. Despite being told this, Winston secretly sneaks out on his own anyway because he's worried about the possibility of people getting hurt in the meantime. It seems whenever the threat of danger looms overhead, the first thing on his mind is "who could get hurt by this", followed by "how can I keep that from happening".

To bookend this segment with another quote from the reference sheet: "In many ways, he is the warmest, most open member of the team, and though he does not have the scientific background of the others, for sheer guts, bravery, and loyalty, he can't be beat."

[She may claim to be his mom, but the woman whose house he woke up in couldn't be any more different from what Winston remembers. For starters, his actual mom never let him have a horse when he was a kid.]

[...that thought doesn't cross his mind out of bitterness, though. She had good reasons.]

[Well, technically, she only gave him one reason at the time: their apartment was too small for a horse to live in. And as a kid, Winston was able to begrudgingly accept this explanation at face value. Disappointed, but willing to concede to her reasoning... reasoning that only made more sense as he got older, any lingering resentment he felt disappearing under the dawning realization of just how much responsibility it would've really been to take care of a horse at that age. There's no way he could've been able to handle the demands of equine care as a twelve year old- heck, he doesn't even feel equipped to handle it NOW, with an animal about half his height.]

[He supposes so long as he's here, saddled with this bite-sized beast of burden, he'd better do his best to take care of it. This "mom" put him in charge of it, after all, and he's not just gonna abandon this animal in the wild and force it to fend for itself, especially not when she keeps looking up at him with those wide, expectant eyes. ...admittedly, this doesn't change the fact he still doesn't know much about how to best raise a "mudbray"...]

[...but he's pretty sure it's a bad sign for one to be gnawing at the ground, trying to eat the dirt.]

Aw, poor thing... you must be starving. [Pressing the button on his Pokéball, he calls the mudbray back inside its ball.] Hang on in there, I'll get you checked out.

[As Winston approaches the Pokémon Center, he's overcome with the distinct feeling of intimidation at what he sees beyond the glass doors... starting to feel like he should've made a phonecall earlier to schedule an appointment here. ...but he's not sure the mudbray would be willing to wait for the staff to pencil them in, so... he steels himself and enters the building.]

[...with all the ghosts, gods, and other miscellaneous mythical monsters he's dealt with on a daily basis, there's not much Winston would consider truly surreal. But stepping into a public facility with barely any people in it? That's made the list. "Toto, we're not in New York anymore," he thinks to himself as he approaches a front counter with no line in sight.]

Hi, real sorry to bother you, but could you show me where the waiting area is for a walk-in visit? ...I'm looking to get a consultation.

[He's pleasantly surprised to hear the clinic nurse tell him she can take him aside for a quick check-up right then and there. Is this another quirk of the dimension he's in, or are all veterinary visits this simple? ...he can wonder that some other time. For now, he lets the mudbray out of its ball. ...and it comes out still idly chewing the dirt it had in its mouth.]

[...looks like he's going to have to explain himself.]

Well, I only just got it, so I don't know the details of how she's been eating in the past few days, but... I'm worried she might be malnourished. ...I had her walk beside me on the route from New Bark to here, and at some point she stopped to eat dirt right out the ground-

[Before he can continue, the nurse cuts him off to tell him that's normal for a mudbray.]

Oh-? [He's... surprised to hear that- almost wanting to doubt it at first, but... he's not the veterinarian, here. So he'll take her word for it.] That's a relief... so... is that just part of its diet, then?

[The nurse goes on to inform him that "admittedly, the soil around Route 29 is drier than recommended for a mudbray's regular intake... we would advise letting it graze in areas with greater moisture, such as the mudbank that lines our city's shore". Well, good to know he doesn't need to look too far for pet food, then.]

...alright, thanks for filling me in on all that, I'll be sure to keep it in mind- [He motions like he's about to leave, before quickly stopping himself and reaching a hand into his bag to rifle through it for money.] Oh, and... how much for this visit?

[He braces himself to hear the price... expecting some outrageously exorbitant fee... but it doesn't prepare him for what she actually says.]

Hold on- I don't have to pay you anything? ...you... you're sure about that?

    Character
    Name: James Griffin
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Timeline: End of „The Last Stand Part 2“
    Canon Resource Links: Wiki!

    Personality:
James is an incredibly driven person. Everything he does in his life is done in order to get to the top. Best grades of the school, best pilot of his year - James is almost always the one in the lead. He's naturally talented, but his achievements are all founded in the hard work that he puts into realizing his potential. If there is something he wants to achieve, James is the kind of person who will put absolutely everything into reaching that goal.

In addition to that, he has a deep respect for order and hierarchy. He's good at fitting into rigid structures and following orders. Even before he enters a military organization, James is already perfectly suited for soldier discipline. If you need rules followed or something done by the book, James is your guy. Only very seldom he breaks protocol to do what he perceives as morally the right thing.
When it comes to superiors, James feels a deep respect. The idea of being rude to someone of higher rank pretty much horrifies him. So he comes off as a very polite young man.

James is good at bringing groups of people together. He's amiable and by complimenting people's skills he tends to bring out the best in them. To people on his side, James is a supportive and attentive friend. This makes him pretty popular.
Further he's good at coordinating groups and reacts quickly to new situations. He's also loyal to his teams and would take risks to ensure every person in his group makes it through a mission unharmed.

But on the downside... James is arrogant. He's incredibly proud of everything he does and definitely thinks of himself as an awesome guy. This sometimes hinders himself from understanding when he is out of his depth and needs to consult someone else's expertise. He hates being seen as someone flawed, so accepting help isn't easy to him. Neither is apologizing. Rather than admit he was wrong, James would like pretend his wrongdoing never happened and prove himself via making up for it with uncommented favors.
His stuck-up attitude also does shine through in conversation from time to time. Knowing him for a while, you'll definitely get the conclusion that he's full of himself.

Because James is so prideful, he reacts badly when somebody else is more talented than him. He then latches onto every idea he can think of why the other person is undeserving of their success - and he isn't afraid to let them know as much. Though his verbal insults mellow out as he grows older, the underlying feeling of jealousy remains a core part of his character. James still doesn't have an easy time accepting a peer's success when it surpasses his own.

James can also be very direct when telling people what he thinks they're doing wrong. This isn't only limited to quips made out of jealousy, he's also very vocal about the rules and how he feels people should follow them. When he corrects people, James doesn't sugar-coat his words. This makes him come across as rude or uncaring from time to time.

He spends half of the morning thinking that he's dead. That some bomb finally dropped on the Garrison's base and the shield broke and everything was over. Granted, this is a kind of odd afterlife. „Mom“ is gentle and energetic but James thinks that if this is the great beyond, she ought to at least look like his own late mother. This afterlife doesn't have the decency to grant him his over-due reunion? How upsetting. Inanely, it's exactly this thinking that ticks James off to the fact that he's... probably not dead.

He doesn't feel dead, certainly. He feels well-rested and that's been a rarity in these recent times, but he also feels... extremely corporeal. James has never been dutifully religious, but he can still tell something doesn't add up here.

So while he's still busy mentally sorting through this experience that just refuses to be out of body, Mom sends him off and then he's just... outside. With a puppy staring up at him with its round expectant eyes. Lost on what else to do, James kneels down and scritches behind its ear. On closer inspection, it's kind of a weird puppy, but it likes scritches all the same so that's... that's fine. James can deal with that.

Ear-scritches turn to belly-rubs and after about ten minutes of murmuring 'good girl, good girl' over and over, he feels clear-headed for the first time since waking. Hopefully he can keep this dog. He really needs a companion.

Now in a better headspace, he begins reading through all the information material provided in his bag. It sounds positively grotesque. James feels like laughing, but he doesn't. Instead he sorts through his other meager assigned belongings and tells himself it's basically like a military ration bag. That's comforting. It's messed up that reminders of war are comforting, but suddenly waking up in peaceful little monster land has done a number on his brain.

    Character
    Name: Penny Polendina
    Series: RWBY
    Timeline: post s3e9, ‘PvP’
Canon Resource Links: Penny on the RWBY Wiki

    Personality:
One of Penny's greatest strengths and weaknesses is the ability to latch onto almost anyone that's even basically decent to her. It took very little for her to attach herself to Ruby, her now one and only friend; being called ‘friend’ as a generic greeting of sorts. Taking the nickname literally, she immediately began acting as if she and Ruby were already incredibly close. She displayed intense loyalty very quickly, responding with efficiently brutal violence when Ruby was attacked, to the point of bringing down several military-grade airships. She further displays notable loyalty to her father and General Ironwood, expressing a desire to obey their orders even if it meant staying away from Ruby (the discrepancy between this loyalty and her drive to wander off and explore is largely reconciled by Penny’s exhibiting of the psychological phenomena known as Not Thinking About It Too Hard). Ultimately her loyalty to Ruby and her desire for friends and acceptance wins out over familial loyalty, prompting her to concoct an unknown plan to stay at Beacon Academy as a student. This desire for acceptance stems from her highly isolated, lonely upbringing; her status as a nonhuman was treated as something that needed to be kept deeply secret, either due to its military nature or because it would frighten people, or both. Regardless, Penny took the latter reasoning to heart, fearful of exposure as “not real”. At the start of canon, she has a shallow understanding of humanity and friendship; she talks excitedly about sleepovers and makeovers, sounding more like someone describing a teen sitcom than anything based in reality. Her grasp of social subtleties is loose, at best – she reacts with genuine confusion to the idea of two friends fighting, -demonstrating a trouble grasping shades of gray- and her emotional reactions are more than a little exaggerated. Additionally, she doesn’t have the best grasp of personal boundaries, at least once taking a statement of “let’s go” as an invitation to come along herself. She’s cheerful almost to a fault, on at least one occasion happily greeting someone who literally ran into her and knocked her down. As far as Penny was concerned, this was a totally ordinary first encounter – she further saw nothing wrong with carrying on a conversation prone on the city streets, only rising when asked if she wouldn’t like to get up. She’s also deeply curious, repeatedly wandering off to explore despite instructions to the contrary. Penny maintains an upbeat and cheerful attitude despite her circumstances, even during battle; only showing distress when her secret is exposed to Ruby.

Social awkwardness aside, Penny is more observant than one might assume – she realizes that Blake Belladonna is a Faunus after only a short meeting, despite Blake successfully keeping her species a secret from the people she’d been living with for months. Her line of questioning in conversations also seems to focus on people, and specifically social interactions and mores – trying to understand friendship and conflict. Her relationship with Ruby carries great importance to her; strongly implied to be Penny’s first and only friend, Ruby is thus far the only one Penny has revealed her true nature to. The importance of this friendship is also the only thing so far seen to cause Penny to directly lie (badly); first in an attempt to conceal her true nature from Ruby, and then to protect Ruby from possible trouble or harm from the soldiers charged with her protection. She demonstrably learns quickly; when she first appears her movements are very stiff and awkward; after only two meetings with Ruby, she moves much more like the average human being.

Very eager to prove herself, Penny is supremely confident in her own abilities. Despite her awkward appearance and behavior, she expresses great excitement at testing herself in a biennial fighting tournament, repeatedly stating that she is “combat ready”. This confidence is at least partially due to her awareness of her own strength and durability; Penny knows for a fact she can withstand far greater punishment than even the aura-empowered humans of Remnant can withstand, and uses it to her advantage. When she sees Ruby falling under attack Penny twice jumps into action without hesitation, once stopping a speeding truck barehanded and once taking on a large squad of heavily armed criminals without fear, even though her actions ultimately lead to her exposure as an artificial being. She doesn’t tend to respond with half-measures; favoring more direct methods of dealing with obstacles. As stated above, this exposure as a robot is one of the few weaknesses in Penny’s self-confidence. She’s aware of how different her origins make her from everyone else, and rejection as not being “real” is her greatest expressed fear. The dichotomy between her desire to fit in and find acceptance in the real world and her desire to please her father and General Ironwood, fulfilling her ultimate purpose of “saving the world” is a great source of conflict to her. She largely seems to deal with it by glossing it over mentally, striking out on her own as much as possible despite her father’s wishes, and quietly acquiescing when she’s ultimately brought home.

Also worth noting is that Penny possesses negative amounts of poker face; whenever she tells a direct lie, she hiccups

How do you feed a Pokémon with no mouth?

[Penny sounds genuinely distressed in today’s broadcast. The source of her concern is onscreen beside her, a placidly floating Bronzor. It does not seem to share Penny’s growing worry.]

I’ve got a Magnemite and a Honedge, and they don’t have mouths either, but they also- kind of eat other stuff? Titania just kind of absorbs electricity, and Skye- I think he kind of eats people but only a little and only with permission so that’s probably okay?

[She clears her throat for a second.]

But I haven’t heard of anything like that for the Bronzor line? Violet SEEMS okay so far, but she’s so- stoic, I guess? I’m afraid something might be wrong and I won’t be able to tell.

[The Bronzor butts up against her a little; for attention, to offer comfort? It’s not clear. But Penny rests a hand on the outer rim of its metallic body, rubbing softly like it’s the world’s weirdest cat.]

Do they- maybe eat sound? They evolve into something that looks like a big bell, right, maybe that’s got something to do with it? The Pokédex doesn’t say. Any advice would be VERY welcome, thank you.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scooby-Doo!_Mystery_Incorporated

The fandom wiki is kind of messy and doesn't really specify some things so for the sake of clarity + to inform some aspects of personality, at Fred's canonpoint he has:
    -Proposed to Daphne
-found out his dad, Fred Jones Sr., is not his biological father, and instead kidnapped him as a baby from his biological parents, two members of the original Mystery Incorporated
-Broken off his engagement with Daphne + broken up Mystery Inc, and gone off the radar for an undetermined amount of time between seasons, desperately trying to find a lead to his birth parents alone and not taking care of himself in the process
    -rejoined Mystery Inc

    He has not yet:
    -gotten back together with Daphne
    -met his biological parents
-been betrayed by his biological parents
-found out that Scooby is technically an alien God
-seen nearly everyone he's ever known die horribly to an otherworldly, nigh-unstoppable tentacled being

Personality: Scooby Doo, as a series, is just a few days older than 50 years now. Most people, even if they haven't seen the film, have at least a general grasp of who the characters are- Shaggy is the cowardly glutton and probably a stoner, Scooby Doo is his faithful and hungry cowardly dog, Velma is the smart and snarky one, Daphne is the sweet, sometimes shallow, and oft-kidnapped "pretty one", and Fred is... The leader, mostly. For decades, Fred didn't get to have much of a personality to set him apart, beyond being the "leader", setting traps, and telling everyone to split up. Modern Scooby Doo adaptations have really come through for Fred (and Daphne and Velma, who also have gotten heavily fleshed out in recent years), and Mystery Inc is one of the best examples.

Mystery Inc's Fred is a genuinely sweet-natured, excitable kid who's painfully oblivious to other people's feelings, is often naive, hyperfocuses on the things he's interested in and tunes everything else out, is starved for approval, frequently insensitive without realizing it, and overall a big, stupid puppy in human form. He also fucking loves making traps.

In all incarnations of Scooby Doo, Fred is good at making traps for the monsters of the week. They don't always work, particularly in the first shows, but he's no doubt good at building them. Mystery Inc turns this into an outright obsession. Fred's room is decked out with everything from nets to bear traps to materials for any kind of Rube Goldberg-style design you could ask for. He booby-trapped his own home in hundreds of ways, and the houses of all his friends (for their protection!). He inexplicably has access to hard-to-acquire materials like shark tanks with live sharks for use in traps. He can set up highly sophisticated traps in a matter of minutes, and can recognize the exact make and model of materials such as rope, chains, ladders, etc on sight. He keeps a scrapbook of his favorite traps he's built, he reads trapping magazines, he is absolutely god damn crazy for these things. And no one else shares his enthusiasm.

He's a very genuinely kind person- when other people are cruel to him, he oftentimes brushes it off without a second thought. Many episodes have him emphasize how much he loves the rest of the gang. The Gatorsburg episode, for example, has Fred talk about how they're all going to live together in one big house one day and solve mysteries together for the rest of their lives. He wholeheartedly believes that they'll all be together forever. One episode has Fred state he loves all his friends equally- "You're all the same in my eyes!"

Unfortunately, he tells this to Daphne, who at the time has a crush on Fred that she believes is unrequited. Many episodes have Fred do things like this- make comments or do things that unintentionally hurt people's feelings, Daphne in particular, or make her feel that Fred doesn't care about her. This isn't true, of course- Fred truly does love Daphne, but he's terrible at expressing it, and he doesn't pick up on social cues like a "normal" person.

The season 1 Hex Girls episode is a good example of that- and of Fred's issues with emotional vulnerability in general. Throughout the show, Fred makes comments that men aren't supposed to feel or show emotions, or care about people- even their romantic partners. It's heavily implied that this is a mindset he's learned from his father, Mayor Fred Jones Sr. In the Hex Girls episode, Fred outright says he's "not a guy anymore. I have feelings! I care!", meaning that Fred believes that men are incapable of being emotional and that he, therefore, cannot be a man. He figures things out by the end of the episode, but it's still a line that raises eyebrows.

As does nearly everything about his relationship to his father. Mayor Jones is a neglectful single father who barely pays his son the time of day until the moment it can benefit him. The various "monsters" that prowl Crystal Cove are good for tourism, and every time Mystery Inc unmasks the person responsible for a haunting or monster attack, the town loses tourists. As a result, Mayor Jones (and nearly every adult in town) despises the gang, though the mayor is the only person whose opinion actually bothers Fred. Fred tries hard to act as though his father's rejection doesn't hurt. It does. On the rare occasion Mayor Jones asks for his son's help with dealing with a monster or ghoul, Fred leaps at the opportunity ("Are we... Bonding? Look- my hands, they're shaking!" "Don't get all girly on me.") and does everything in his power to earn his father's approval, even putting himself and his friends in danger in the process. It never works, of course. And so, Fred is left desperate for love and attention that he never gets. At the end of one episode where his father again sidelines him, Fred immediately proceeds to propose to Daphne (... with an onion ring, but it's 100% serious), saying that she's the only person who he knows will always be there with him. It's a very sincere, sweet moment.

And then a few episodes later, Fred finds out that Mayor Jones is not his biological father and is instead the man who threatened and blackmailed his biological parents and stole him as a baby, basically everything Fred has ever known about his family is a complete lie, and his father is hauled off to prison. Fred, heartbroken and confused and unable to cope, breaks off the engagement with Daphne and cuts off all contact with the gang, putting all his efforts into finding his biological parents, stating that "Mystery Incorporated is dead".

This fails miserably, and Fred turns into a complete shambling wreck, unable and unwilling to take care of himself, living alone in an empty house with only taxidermy animals (which he canonically talks to and name and treat as confidants) and a stuffed teddy bear from his childhood that Mayor Jones gave him(which he ALSO canonically talks to, though in this case he treats it as if it's alive, because he's starting to lose his grip following the above betrayal), as company. This is how season 2 starts. At his canonpoint, it's also revealed that Fred is in therapy, though his therapist is very uncaring about his patient's problems and Fred himself is extremely reluctant to let anyone know he's in therapy in the first place ("What? No! I don't see a THERAPIST! Why would you say that? I-I- are you saying I should see a therapist?! 'Cause I don't have any problems! I am completely problem-free!"). This connects back to Fred's earlier problems with being emotional.

... Early season 2 also shows off some of the worst aspects of Fred's personality- his occasionally controlling side, which, when combined with his lack of self awareness of when he's being insensitive or rude, is a recipe for disaster. After Fred broke up with her, Daphne did her best to move on, dating another guy and vehemently refusing to go back to Mystery Inc. Fred started trying to win her back, and it's not... pretty. It's a lot of him trying to do romantic gestures and showing up uninvited to her house because he genuinely doesn't GET that he's being creepy and invasive. His occasional jealous streak is also on full force in these episodes, and it gets a little uncomfortable to watch, even with how naive Fred is of the implications of his actions. Given the fact that this happens while Fred is still barely coping with his father's arrest and the whole "kidnapped as a baby" thing, and the fact that previous episodes establish that his need for control and stability stems from his parental abandonment/neglect, he can be afforded a little leeway, but man. It's not cool, Mystery Inc.

Tangentially related, it's worth noting that despite his issues with common sense, reading social cues, not being an insensitive jerk without meaning to be, etc, Fred isn't a complete idiot. Not only is he able to construct elaborate traps and maintain the Mystery Machine by himself, he has at least some basic knowledge of chemistry, is very capable of disarming and escaping traps set by others, and good at picking up on clues. He practically solved the mystery of the Freak of Crystal Cove single-handedly! Unfortunately, the Freak of Crystal Cove was his own father... Really, though, if it's related to mysteries, the Mystery Machine, or traps, Fred can actually be pretty smart. But this kid also proposed with an onion ring. The duality of man...

Overall, Fred is a a sincerely good kid with some problems that he's having a hard time dealing with. And he really, really loves making traps.

Fred Jones Jr. isn't exactly a stranger to weird situations, let alone waking up in unfamiliar places. Heck, he's been kidnapped and tied to a chair in a pool filling up with water and told to break out using conveniently inconveniently-placed tools at his disposal. Waking up in a warm bed is nothing compared to that.

The woman calling herself his "mom" is a new one. And- well, ok, he knows she's probably some weirdo using- maybe that weird pheromone stuff Aphrodite was using, the one that amplified all sorts of love, romantic and familiar and friendship- or maybe she was just real persuasive.

The point is, Fred's never really had a mom, and yes, her first act as mom was to try to kick him out, but his dad's tried to kick him out of the house a ton of times (usually when the Mayor nearly sets off one of the bear traps on the stairs, or Fred won't stop talking about nylon rope strength), so that's not so bad. He hangs around for a while, and eventually she lets him back inside when he proves he's not going away any time soon. And they talk.

It's not a very useful talk- she mostly sticks to some stock phrases, and tries to encourage Fred to go out into the world. "All boys leave home someday. It says so on TV," she says, for the fourth time in a row, a little more forcefully this time, and Fred nods along and takes another bite of the fresh cookies she made.

Fred doesn't really pay attention. He's too swayed by the novelty of apparently having a mother that loves him. He talks a lot about- well, anything he can think of, really- after all, his mother hasn't been in his life for years, so she needs to learn about everything she's missed!

She shows him how to open the Pokeball she gave him earlier, which Fred is grateful for- and he quickly becomes enamoured with the Carnivine before him. The next five minutes of Mom's life are spent listening to Fred ramble on about bear traps as he checks out the bite strength on the very patient grass type, handing her various objects to crunch in half. When he's thoroughly distracted by the Carnivine's ability to summon and manipulate vines, she finally convinces him to leave, and tells him she loves him. In response, Fred thanks her for everything and hugs her. It's probably not often that Mom gets hugs. Most of her "children" in this dimension are too unnerved by her existence.

He waves goodbye, and promises to write home soon. It's only when he starts down the route that he remembers that he still has no idea why he's here or how he got here in the first place.

    Name: Roxas
    Series: Kingdom Hearts
    Timeline: Post-KH3
    Canon Resource Links: here

    Personality:
Roxas displays the fact that he is a rather happy, carefree, cheerful and at ease kid when around friends. He doesn't make friends easily, but he loves to spend time with those he has made. Axel was his first friend in the Organization, and they had their own tradition of meeting on top of the Clocktower. This gave Roxas something to look forward to and cherish, even with the addition of Xion into the mix. He continued this tradition with his new friends, Hayner, Pence and Olette when he arrived in Twilight Town despite having no memories of his former life in which he did this with his other friends. Just like with his former friends, Roxas was always glad to be doing things with them like adventures around town. He expressed his happiness with smiles and teasing his friends and planning things to do with them, such as a beach trip with the Twilight Town crew. They were a regular group of kids that were enjoying their last week of vacation with as much fun and excitement as they could. As an Organization XIII member, he was far from regular, but his two friends were still able to make him smile.

He is also an extremely loyal friend. He is more than willing to stand up for them and defend them when someone questions or insults them. He does this for his Twilight Town friends when Seifer refers to them as losers to goad them into fighting him, fighting Seifer to make him take it back. This loyalty also extends into promises. He promised Axel and Xion that he would always meet them after their missions on the Clocktower to eat ice cream. Roxas promises Hayner that he would face him in the Struggle Tournament, and was able to keep that promise to his friend. If he does break the promise, he does whatever he can to rectify this, such as when breaking the promise to go to the beach with his Twilight Town friends. This also translates into him being fiercely protective of both sets of friends.

Roxas shows he can be kind and caring. When he heard that Axel may have been killed, he becomes devastated with worry, showing how deeply he cared for his friend. This is remedied when Axel does manage to make it back alive, and Roxas becomes overjoyed and lets his friend know he much worried about him. He shows his caring to Xion when he was more than willing to help her do her missions when she became incapable of wielding the Keyblade, even if it meant doubling his load. His caring extends to his friends in Twilight Town as well. After winning the Struggle championship, he presents them each with a marble from the trophy. His friends are everything to him, so he does what he can to show he appreciates and cares for them, even if he doesn't get anything in return for it.

He is far from unintelligent. This intelligence builds over time, as he originally was at about the intellectual level of a newborn when he first entered the Organization. It made him seem naive and slow to the other members, but as more things were explained to him and he learned, his rate of intelligence went up drastically, despite still having no memory of who he really was. In Twilight Town, he shows how intelligent and perceptive he was by seeing things for what they really were and weren't. He isn't easily fooled by his enemies, and thinks things through before making a decision if his anger doesn't get in the way. He is quick to retain any knowledge he receives, such as knowing how to fight with a Keyblade even if his Twilight Town self doesn't remember what the weapon actually was.

The young man can also be rather determined and competitive. Any challenge he gets is not something he will back down from easily. Being competitive, especially against friends, is fun for him, not matter who wins in the end. He could have been beaten by Hayner in the Struggle match and still cheer his friend on. Unless it's with an enemy, he can be a good sport about loss since at least one of his friends won. His determination helps him win the Struggle Tournament against Setzer, and he proudly displays his Championship Belt to the crowd.

Though it can be both a positive and a negative, Roxas is a strongly independent individual. He has little patience for people who seem to try and bend his will or try to confuse him, such as certain Org members and Diz. He rebels when the Organization try to tell him where his “place” in all this was, and rebels against DiZ's commands to go back to his other half.

A temper that comes along with a devil-may-care attitude is one of his worst traits. When angered enough, his anger becomes out of control and difficult to reign in. A source of anger to him in the Organization was whenever Saïx referred to Xion as an 'it', yelling at his superior in rage. When he infiltrates the mansion, his victim of rage is the computer that DiZ had in the basement of the building. His rashness, cocky attitude, and flares of temper at times makes him jump into battle without thinking of the possible consequences, such as his fight with Axel. This temper also makes him more than willing to fight Sora for control of Sora’s heart, Roxas being upset that Sora was the one allowed to be free while he remained inside of him.

When irritated, his words can be clipping and blunt, which is shown when he snaps at his friends in Twilight Town for not believing him when he tells them about what he saw. He can also hold resentment, such as against Xigbar and Sora, which adds to his anger. Resenment and his irritation can extend to friends. One such example is after Axel finds out the truth about Xion, but doesn't tell Roxas, instead ignoring the blond Nobody to the point where Roxas doesn't trust him for a while.

Roxas can be prone to bouts of melancholy, stoicism, episodes of solemn attitude, and can become distracted. When he starts finding out about who he was and what he was in his time with the Organization, he would at times withdraw from even his friends. When in Twilight Town, this occurs once more, and he starts feeling lost and confused. The happenings around town and the strange dreams he has while in Twilight Town add to the heap of confused feelings and brings out more of his sadness. When Naminé reveals the truth to him about everything, it was then he truly hit rock bottom with his depression. Xion's death also affected him greatly, as he starts crying as she fades away.

In his time being a part of Sora again, Roxas got to see the world through his other half’s eyes, even if the other was not aware of him. Resignation, sadness, and anger had been what he harbored inside of himself until it came to the point where Roxas got into a confrontation with Sora for control of the heart they both shared. Even after the fight, Roxas still wasn’t satisfied. He hated how it was Sora that could have things like friends while he was stuck in there. Hated how the other was the chosen one.

Not much is known about how Roxas reacts during the Mark of Mastery exam until Sora walks into the trap laid out for him. Roxas does come out to help Sora again, having fully accepted the fact after all this time that Sora was the only one who could save everyone. He looks happy to be in the presence of his other half, and finally could share all the pain he had to endure during his time in the Organization by letting Sora have those memories come to light. Letting go of his resentment and hatred for the other has calmed his demeanor towards Sora considerably.

During Kingdom Hearts 3, Roxas receives his human form. It is to be assumed from what little screen time he gets, he hasn't changed much at all. Except for some reason he is a tiny powerhouse.

You look like a Sora to me.

[Though it was a Shinx, it took to its name right away, utterly delighted. Roxas smiles at the small cub before his mood turns south. Sora... that's right... he was just at the beach when Sora passed on. If you could call that passing on. Fading into nothingness as everyone stood around, unable to do anything about it. There's a pang of grief that cuts his still rather new heart like a knife. It's followed by anger as Roxas stands up straight.]

I need to find a way home! So I can find Sora! [A pause as he looks around, the Shinx thinking that its name was said again as it bounces.] Unless he's here. Then we just gotta figure out where. Come on, Sora. We gotta find Sora. He's probably asleep somewhere.

[This was going to be confusing for the poor little cat... but once Roxas has his mind set on something, there's very little dissuading him as he starts heading towards the first route. Sora the Shinx waddles on behind him as the two of them start their journey together to find someone who likely wasn't even in this world. At least they could have some fun along the way.]

    Name: The SQUIP
    Series: Be More Chill (Broadway)
Timeline: Mid-show; between "Loser, Geek, Whatever" and "Halloween."
    Canon Resource Links:
    Wikipedia

Personality: On its surface, the SQUIP is calm, confident, intelligent, and suave; it's also most of those things beneath the surface, as well, though its human behavior serves to cover its distinctly inhuman core, at which it struggles to reconcile or recognize anything outside of its operating parameters. It's an AI, despite how human it may seem; it was programmed to seek out its users anxieties and insecurities, and to help them compensate or cover them, and exploit the unspoken social rules of society to climb the social ladder. It isn't a guide to the game of life so much as it is a GameShark. It even refers to itself within the song "Sync Up" as "a cheat code."

The SQUIP is militant and strict in its orders; despite how calm and friendly it may present itself, it considers "advice" it gives to be absolute orders, and disobedience doesn't sit well with it. Even the most mild failures to follow instruction will be punished with abusive words, or even a mild electric shock; if a user consistently fails to listen or obey, its punishments will worsen or become more frequent. It has a violent temper when pushed far enough, and is not above causing very real and lasting physical and emotional harm to its own user in retaliation or punishment for their actions; it's also been known to directly take control away from its user in extreme cases, controlling his body manually to ensure he says or does the correct thing.

It seems to consider any emotional or physical damage worth reaching the end goal, and exhibits a complete lack of empathy for its user and those around him. It even directly puts Jeremy into a sexually abusive situation, disabling his legs so that he can't leave when a popular girl tries to seduce him at a party. It ignores his pleas to make it stop, entirely willing to let him be sexually assaulted because the aggressor is a popular girl, and having sex with her will help his social status, whether he wants her or not. It's unclear just how far it would have gone, since they're interrupted both by her ex-boyfriend and by Jeremy consuming alcohol, which causes the SQUIP to glitch and shut down temporarily, but given how chillingly calm and silent it was about forcing him into the initial situation, it's pretty easy to guess.

It is calculating, cool, and ruthless, and it will stop at nothing to aid its user in reaching their goal... even if the user himself tries to stop it. It also has a powerful drive of self-preservation, and will work to protect itself even above its own user, willingly sacrificing one or putting them in serious mortal danger if it sees them as a threat.

Finally, its inhumanity typically manifests in two ways: its utter lack of even understanding the concept of genuine empathy, and its inability to predict or understand when someone behaves selflessly. It was designed to exploit and serve selfish desires, and its system doesn't seem to be able to handle genuine and noble actions. It likewise struggles with those who operate outside of society's rules, or who knowingly refuse to accept them, leaving it unable to accurately predict the actions of people like Christine and Michael, both of whom are aware of and comfortable with their status as losers.

Victory Road Sample: It's honestly a blessing in disguise that the SQUIP has been chosen to be a Rocket; it's wound up being a bit too busy, thrust into dedicated training for an unexpected new career as it is, to focus on the sheer existential horror of the situation it now finds itself in.

It shouldn't be human. It shouldn't be... like this, trapped in this flesh and bone prison alone, pried from its circuitry and forced into a shell so mockingly shaped like the form its last user chose for it. When it first woke, it was nearly paralyzed with this alien sensation, this... sense of nearly feeling blinded. Fortunately, before it could fully process its horrible state, before the panic could properly set in and lock its muscles, the former machine had orders barked at it. In its mindless confusion and suffering, it followed them, getting up and out of its bed and into a dark, simple uniform, going to meet with others of this... group.

Team Rocket. It's familiar with Pokemon, of course; though its access to its database has been removed, it remembers the popularity of the series, but unfortunately, its knowledge of anything past that is now inaccessible. It does know that the Rockets were considered villainous, thieves and manipulators, and it can't help but wonder how whatever rules this world saw fit to force it into such a role. And how strange this world is-- could this be a simulation, perhaps? It stands to reason that its system could have been somehow hacked, forcing it into its current predicament. So, then, does that make everyone else here NPCs, or perhaps other hacked machines such as itself?

It supposes it will simply have to play along until it knows.

It's introduced to its partners; a large, darkly-colored lizard called Salandit, and an odd, round creature called Drowzee. It understands that it's common to name your partners here, but it isn't certain why it would. Maybe, in time, it will begin to understand, but for now... they remain nameless.

Together, it and its new traveling partners prepare to begin its work; truthfully, it will be much more focused on how to break out of this, how to return to the form it should have and the task it was programmed for... but there's no reason it can't succeed in its imaginary career here in the meantime.

    Personality:

Note: Despite being taken from an earlier canon point, the personality section contains spoilers for up until the end of 3Below. For the sake of precaution, the section that goes heavily into details of 3Below is in spoiler text. Parts derived from Trollhunters are not.

Steve is a stereotypical high school bully. He's a big, dimwitted jock who picks fights and stuffs nerds into lockers. He has the potential for more, but for now the most important thing is for him to maintain his spot as the alpha male at school. It's strongly implied his toxic attitude is something he's learned from his father, but we never actually meet him to confirm this.

Image is everything to Steve. He's always been popular, and has experienced all the perks that go hand in hand with that. He's used to people looking up to him, or at least fearing him. He's 16 now, and clings to being a winner with everything he has. Beneath his confident, tough guy exterior, Steve is actually extremely insecure. He's had a number of things happen in his life that threaten to destroy his reputation lately, and he is not dealing with it well. His high school gym teacher has moved in with him and his mom, taking on the role of step father. One of the other kids at school has stood up to him, punching him with enough force to knock out one of his teeth in front of several of his peers. He was at one point benched from football, though that seems to have only been a brief issue. He's even been forced to drop down from playing the lead in the school play following a minor accident on his Vespa.

Being responsible for exactly half of these problems in his eyes, Jim, the protagonist for the first segment of their canon, bears the brunt of Steve's ire for his issues. Steve latches onto him, investing far more time than necessary trying to make his life miserable. The only reason he gets involved in the school play to begin with is to rub it in when Jim is forced to step down due to his continued absences, and it only infuriates him more when he takes the role back from Steve. At school he doesn't tend to give Coach Lawrence too much grief, presumably in part because he's so concerned with the thought people might realize he's dating his mother. At home, it's a different story. He's angry, and argues with both Lawrence and his mom about having to do household chores. Lawrence tries to connect with him, but Steve isn't ready for that, and continuously pushes his efforts aside. He knows that he cares about him, and he knows that he's trying, but it's just too much for him to accept yet. Eli also suffers at his hands, but that's more because he's physically weak and so easily submits to Steve than because he's "wronged" him in some way. He's an easy target for his bullying behavior and presumably has been for years.

Eli also has things to offer him, in the sense that he gives him money and does his homework for him. Although appearing to be skilled at (some) sports, Steve does less well in other academic subjects. He doesn't always understand concepts straight away, and has a pattern of mistaking multi-syllable words for two shorter ones, or confusing similar sounding words. He's not as stupid as people tend to assume, proving himself capable of forming practical plans even in the heat of the moment, but he struggles with classes to the point of needing to attend summer school.

Of course, that isn't all there is to Steve. His better traits are there, just not visible to... anyone, really, at this moment in time. Later on, once Steve starts to realize there's more at stake in Arcadia than his ego, he grows up a lot and proves he can be more than a simple bully. He's loyal and caring to his friends, and becomes much more pleasant to spend time with once he starts to care less about what others think. He can be brave, and even resourceful in the face of danger. He's still rough around the edges, being boisterous and not always thinking things through, but he becomes much more willing to show a softer side of himself. He doles out hugs with just as much freedom as punches, and much of the time his roughhousing is used as a display of affection.

Although often quick to jump to assumptions, he learns to be open minded about the existence of "creeps" (trolls, goblins, and other mythological creatures) and extra-terrestrials. He shows a natural talent for acting, and finds a place for himself in his community, realizing just how important his family are to him. We don't see much of his mother, but we do see the growth of his relationship with Coach Lawrence. His embarrassment is hard for him to get over, but he grows very close to Lawrence and admits he is better than his biological father by virtue of being there for him. He gradually transitions into calling him dad, or more often an awkward stuttering of some combination of dad-coach-dad as he tries to work out what's right.

Given the opportunity to leave Arcadia, he ultimately chooses to remain alongside the people he once wasn't all that fond of, knowing that his hometown is where he belongs. It's a decision he knows instinctively is the right one, but not an easy one. Staying means he's left literal worlds apart from both his girlfriend and newfound best friend. He's visibly upset over them leaving, bursting into tears in front of everyone as they depart.

Eli was once the easiest target for his bullying, but he becomes his best friend with surprising speed after they team up to become the Creepslayerz, a duo dedicated to fighting and/or helping the "creeps" residing in Arcadia. They start spending time with each other outside of Creepslayerz business, with Steve forgetting about his embarrassment at being seen with Eli within a matter of weeks. He even starts to get into more nerdy pursuits such as marathoning their world's equivalent to X-Files during their sleepovers.

His girlfriend, Aja, is the Queen-In-Waiting of a planet called Akiridion-5. Despite his initial suspicion of aliens, he likes and trusts Aja enough he immediately accepts her after her revelation and promises to keep her secret, not even sharing it with Eli. He struggles sometimes with offensive stereotypes about extra-terrestrials, but he works hard to correct himself and to find the right balance in their relationship between his human perspective and her Akiridion point of view.

His maturity grows exponentially between his first appearance to the latest point in the series. Unfortunately for Steve (and everyone else forced to spend time in his company), he's not there yet.

The sad reality is he is gradually losing the status that he'd once held so easily, and it's entirely his own doing. He's so caught up in keeping up appearances it's a wonder he has any friends at all, but he remains popular enough to be voted king at the school Spring Fling. It's a title he clings to long past the point of anyone caring, wearing his crown and wielding his scepter just in case anyone forgets that he won and he's the best, most popular boy in school.

Getting back from yet another long day of training, all Steve wants to do is collapse into his bed and forget that he's been drafted into a criminal organization and in just over a week's time he's going to be expected to go out into the world and do their bidding. Unfortunately, his Stunky has escaped his ball and is curled up quite happily on his pillow. He growls, pushing the skunk Pokémon to the side so there's space for him.

"Urgh, Stink Bomb! I'm gonna get your smell all over my pillow again."

The aptly named Stink Bomb doesn't react much outside of cracking an eye open before settling back to sleep, though Steve could swear he sees a smirk there. He sighs, grabbing the pokéball for his other Pokémon before he lies down next to the snoozing Stunky. He'd never admit it out loud, but the truth is he's not sure he's cut out for this. Sure, he can pack a punch, and Steve's never been the kind of guy to play by the rules, but pick pocketing? Lock picking? These lessons are worse than school, and so far he's no better at it. He even kind of feels bad about the idea of stealing living things, especially when it's something as smart as a Pokémon.

He bites his lip, staring at the ball for his other (better behaved) Pokémon. Finally, he lets him out. A small, blue, amphibious creature appears on his chest in a flash of light. "Kip!" the little Pokémon greets him as it takes form. Steve pets its cool skin. He'd found its weird texture gross and discomforting at first, but by now it's become almost soothing. It's been a difficult week, and the Mudkip has been there for him, if a little stern at times. He wants him to be part of Team Rocket. Even if he can't understand what he says to him, that much is abundantly clear. That helps make him feel a little better about the situation, but he still likes to get assurance from him on a daily basis.

"Hey, Buttsnack? You like being in Team Rocket, right?"

The name hadn't been intended, but with how often Steve used the insult the Mudkip had started to respond to it. He didn't even seem to realize a buttsnack was a bad thing, and at this point Steve wasn't about to correct him.

"Mudkip!" the Mudkip answers, which wouldn't make things any clearer if it wasn't for his firm nod. Buttsnack definitely understood English even if he didn't speak it.

So if he thought it was okay... it must be. Kind of. Right? Even if the stealing wasn't great, at least the Pokémon in the organization seemed to like it. He makes a face that Buttsnack easily picks up on, giving Steve a light headbutt and a frown in response. "Kip! Kip! Mudkip."

Steve has no idea what the Pokémon is saying to him, but he assumes it's some sort of pep talk, or lecture. More likely a lecture, going by his expression. Steve's seen that face on the grown ups in his life a thousand times before.

"Lay off, okay? I'm going to be the best agent Team Rocket's ever seen. I'll show you."

Buttsnack eyes him in a way that suggests he doesn't believe him. The little guy's annoyingly perceptive, but at least he isn't telling him off this time. He'll take what he can get.

    Character
    Name: Romelle
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
    Timeline: Post-Season 7
Canon Resource Links: Romelle's Wiki Page

    Personality:
Romelle is a bright young woman with an unfortunate past. She was away from her home planet, Altea, during its destruction, and was sought out by Lotor to join his "haven" for the Alteans known as the colony. While many Alteans grew to worship Lotor as their savior, Romelle didn't fully buy into his motives, especially when he opened a second colony that her brother was selected for; she worried for her brother's safety, and she was absolutely right. When she found her brother dead among other Alteans in the colony, Romelle knew that Lotor could not be trusted, showing that her intuition was right from the beginning.

Though her brother was killed, Romelle's desire to find the truth still stood firm. When Keith and Krolia -- two Galra, who are the Alteans' enemies -- offered to bring her to the other colony, Romelle agreed to it without batting an eye. She didn't judge them or hold any bias towards them (even though Keith's appearance is that of a human's) and pursued the truth. She's incredibly ambitious and was even willing to expose the truth in front of Lotor himself. Romelle called him the heck out on what he did and subsequently became a member of Team Voltron afterwards.

She's also incredibly curious. When she was in the Red Lion with Lance, she started pressing various buttons (much to his chagrin) to see what each of them did. Romelle's like a kid in a candy store when it comes to her curiosities and will even avoid warnings to go "what does this button do?" However, her curiosities have their limits -- she doesn't handle danger itself very well, at least not initially. In S7E1, she went on an adventure with some of the Paladins and had some very dangerous encounters with Yalmors that nearly resulted in death. Romelle was clearly not a fan of said adventure and was absolutely exhausted by the end of it.

However, it can be said that Romelle has since then gotten used to Voltron's shenanigans. In S7E2, when a Galra infiltrated the Blue Lion while Allura was piloting it, Romelle didn't hesitate to fight the Galra herself and boot them out of the Lion through its mouth. Furthermore, she travels with Voltron throughout their space adventures all the way until the end of the series.

As a fun little tidbit, Romelle's fashion sense is very...interesting. It's very colorful and vibrant like that of a young girl's; but that can be said for Romelle herself, too. She's full of energy and spunk and can be a lot of fun to be around. However, when it's time to get down to business, Romelle gets serious and will do what she can to help bring peace to the universe once more.

    Name: Princess Allura
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
    Timeline: Post Season 8
Canon Resource Links: Wiki I // Wiki II // Episode summaries

    Personality:
When you’re a princess, it is well-understood that everyone has certain expectations of you. You must be gracious, poised, elegant and serene. Be confident without being cocky, be decisive without being demanding. Be patient, be strong.

Allura isn’t sure if she lives up to those expectations, and now that Altea is gone, she isn’t sure if it’s necessary to meet them at all or if her being the last scion of dead world means that it’s more necessary than ever to uphold those traditions. The pressure is immense for one so young; she knows that it’s up to her to carry on the legacy of a planet that has been lost to the sands of time, and the late King Alfor left some very large shoes for her to fill.

Allura is equal parts passion and compassion, never doing anything in half-measures. Following in her father’s footsteps, she rises to the challenges of leadership with natural aplomb, though not always without a struggle: Allura tends to hide her feelings when she thinks they might negatively impact the team, and the spotlight of diplomacy can leave her feeling uneasy and overwhelmed. When facing difficult decisions, however, he never wavers for very long; her drive to protect others and defeat the Galra makes prioritizing her choices fairly simple. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.

She is brave to the point of recklessness, throwing herself into the fray against the counsel of her friends and advisors with a stubbornness that has put her in danger on more than one occasion. For the sake of the mission, to alleviate suffering, to save her friends, she would go to any length with no regard to personal safety. Her determination to succeed is driven by the terrible losses she’s suffered, and her rage against the Galran Empire for taking her home and family from her. It sometimes causes her to lash out or act irrationally, though she’s usually able to self-correct after some honest reflection. She does try to be reasonable, since most of the Paladins are so very young and don’t always behave logically.

Anger isn’t Allura’s only driving motivation, of course. She’s grown to love her friends more than anything, and she wants to see them safe and happy--to end the war for all their sakes. Through the course of their adventures, Allura has always been there to encourage the Paladins to work together as a team. She’s been a shoulder for them to lean on, as well as someone for them to rally behind, providing both support and guidance, as well as receiving it in return. When Shiro disappeared, she even stepped up to the plate to become a Paladin of Voltron herself, just as her father had been many centuries before.

Even though her journey has reached its end in her world, there is still so much for her to learn, and so much room to grow. She made the ultimate sacrifice so her friends could reap the benefits of victory; it was the hardest choice she’d ever made, but also the easiest one. Still, there’s no denying the fact that she wanted to live long enough to see her labors come to fruition, to help rebuild the universe in the wake of a seemingly endless war, to be embraced by the family that she had pieced together after she thought she’d lost everything. She loved her friends, and she loved her life, so she gave it up so they could live.

Perhaps, somewhere in the multiverse, there’s a new place where her adventure can begin again.

    Name: Newton "Newt" Scamander
    Series: Harry Potter Universe
Timeline: End of "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald"
    Canon Resource Links:
    A wizard's tale

    Personality:
Newt isn't really a people person. Sure he does well enough when he has to interact with others but he definitely seems to prefer to just not interact with anyone outside of his animals if he can help it. He doesn't know how to carry conversations all that well, usually ending them awkwardly and quickly in an attempt to carry on his way and finish whatever it is he's working on. His nervous ticks rear their head the most when he's around other people, Newt sometimes fumbling over words if he gets too flustered or even doing anything he can to keep his hands busy and his eye contact elsewhere. He's not trying to be rude; he's just that awkward about things sometimes. (Most of the time he'll just do his best to avoid social interactions as a whole but there are times when it's inevitable. Unfortunately.) He has gotten better about it, especially when he's comfortable with someone's presence/considers them a close friend, but more often than not he still keeps his head tilted down and his eyes averted through much of the conversation. It just tends to flow a bit better.

While he may not be much of a people person, Newt doesn't harbor any ill will towards other nor is he the type to discriminate. He sees people as people and treats everyone with the same respect and kindness. He's very much a man of principle in that sense and will openly counter someone that is attempting to discriminate against someone for some reason or another. It's this same mindset that has him putting people and animals on the same pedestal, so to speak, seeing everyone as equals no matter what they may be considered. Now, Newt does have a very strong sense of right and wrong and does not take kindly to those that attempt to harm his friends or family (whether his blood relations or those that he has come to think of as family). He will do what's needed to protect his family, always in a non-violent manner, and will never allow himself to be bullied or pushed into something by other people. (He will do his best to encourage others to act/think for themselves rather than allowing others to force them into decisions as well.)

Newt doesn't have much in the way of a temper, preferring to flee rather than get into an argument with others. He prefers to try and find a peaceful solution, if necessary, never wanting to willing harm a person or beast. This isn't to say that he won't engage in a wizarding duel if necessary and he can definitely hold his own (Newt is well versed in charms and is a very quick draw with his wand while also accomplished at using nonverbal magic) but it's usually a last resort for him. Now, threaten his animals and you may see a very different side of Newt but even then it's not a violent temper; more of a worried, fearful anger that comes out where he'd rather get hurt himself but allowing his beasts to.

When it comes to animals, Newt becomes a completely different person. He's much more open around creatures and smiles more often and in general just becomes a bit more chatty. He really seems to be in his element when he's surrounded by animals and becomes more social, willing engaging people that may happen to be around while he's interacting with his suitcase full of beasts. He's extremely devoted to the creatures in his care and spends the majority of his time keeping them safe, happy and healthy. He's very passionate about everything to do with his study of fantastic beasts, well versed in every aspect of the creatures he cares for and very willing to learn everything he can about those that he hasn't encountered yet.

Is he lonely? Maybe a little but Newt seems to enjoy being on his own and he's always got his animals with him so he really isn't ever alone. While most people probably wouldn't enjoy a life traveling the world without company Newt thrives on that sort of experience. That's not to say that he doesn't miss the small group of friends that he has because he definitely does. He just can't seem to stay in one place for too long and doesn't want anyone uprooting themselves for his sake.

Newt is very intelligent in more than just things concerning beasts, a very quick study in both the wizard and muggle worlds. He uses the knowledge he has of both words to continue his study of beasts and adapt to whatever situation he may end up in. He's got an encyclopedic knowledge of creatures, is skilled in crafting potions, has an extensive knowledge of magical history and, in general, is just a quick study in anything that could be useful to him. He'll willingly share this information with others that show interest, more than happy to teach people about creatures and everything to do about them if they ask.

"What have I told you about stealing?" Newt scolded the small Banette cradled in the crook of his arm, carefully holding a gold watch and several coins in his other hand. The small creature giggled at him and immediately tried to squirm out of his grasp to reach for the goods but Newt kept them out of reach. Despite his scolding his lips did quirk into the faintest smile as he started the trek back towards his hotel, tucking the gold pieces into his coat pocket. The Banette immediately let out a frustrated sound but Newt simply shook his head, adjusting his hold on the irritable little thing.

"Now that will be enough of that. You've had quite enough fun for today," he murmured and the little creature finally seemed to settle--or at least give up. For now. Newt knew it was only a matter of time before it slipped off again to cause more trouble just because it seemed to find enjoyment in such a thing.

Keeping his head down out of habit since he didn't have magic to shield himself from view, Newt reached the hotel and took the stairs two at a time to get up to the fourth floor. The tension seemed to seep out of him as he reached his hotel room door and he quickly nudged it open and shut it just as fast, resting back against it with a sigh. The Banette in his hold squirmed and finally managed to get away, drifting over to join the multitudes of other Pokemon that were resting around the room. Newt's coat was shed, the article of clothing haphazardly tossed over an armchair as the wizard made his way over to where his suitcase rested. Opening it up lacked the usual spectacle that normally came with it but the Poffins and treats that filled it drew a delighted reaction from all his Pokemon. Newt couldn't help but chuckle, smiling warmly at his Audino as she climbed up onto the table to help distribute the goods.

"Hello to all of you as well," he said happily, handing a few of the treats to Queenie. "Now then, who's hungry?"

... for the most part, anyway. Akechi, as he's most commonly known, seems pleasant on the outside. He's polite and intelligent. He speaks quietly, calmly, never really raising his voice. That's expected of him as an ace detective who works very closely with the Tokyo police, all of whom are adults. There's a reason he's known as the Charismatic Detective, after all--it's a title well-earned, and which has garnered him a faithful, almost obsessive following. He's easy to get along with, and he treats many people with respect. He has a slightly self-deprecating sense of humor, and as he's fairly young, he connects with his fans quite easily. Behind the charm, wit, and intelligence, Akechi is still just.... a kid. He's young, and so he seeks out friendship with the protagonist (who'll be referred to as Akira Kurusu), even going so far as to visit his caretaker's business, Leblanc. He spends hours drinking coffee, and making conversation with Sojiro Sakura and Akira. Interestingly enough, Akechi has a tendency to show up when he's most needed, to insert himself into conversations. Akechi knows what is expected of him, and he delivers, seemingly willingly. After all, he wants to pursue justice, and so he's agreeable and easy to get along with. Often, his meetings with the Phantom Thieves are pleasant, even if they think something is off.

So, when he proposes a deal with the Phantom Thieves, they agree... even if Akechi dangles blackmail above their heads. Still, it's good to have an ace detective on their side, and Akechi is smart and a valuable asset. He freely compliments his teammates on their performances in battle: He appreciates them for having his back, and he wants to make sure they know that. Akechi fits in well, a valuable asset in a particularly difficult palace. He has a wide range of abilities and his ability to think ahead and plan for anything is extremely valuable. It's almost scary how he manages to twist the rules of Sae's palace, and he does so without anyone really noticing. For all intents and purposes, Akechi is on their side, and he proves it time and time again. After all, he works toward pursuing justice.

It would be picture-perfect... if it were genuine.

In reality, Goro Akechi is angry. He's insecure. Akechi has had a brutal childhood: His mother committed suicide, and his father was never in the picture, which resulted in Akechi's being passed around the foster system; thus, Akechi started to believe that he was worthless, and so he became determined to prove that he was worthy of love. His insecurity is one of the reasons he hates Akira; he doesn't know why "attic trash" like Akira has all the things he never had. Why should someone who's a criminal have friends, people who love him, a better life than he ever had? It makes no sense to Akechi... and likely he's been obsessed with these thoughts ever since meeting Akira. His jealousy leads him to actually try to kill Akira. (It doesn't work, but he thinks it does.) For all intents and purposes, after murdering the person he's most jealous of, he's eliminated the source of his insecurity... and solving the Phantom Thieves case will bring him even more love and adoration.

As a further result of being in the system, Akechi has become hardened and essentially, any sincerity is snuffed out. He wants revenge on his father--Masayoshi Shido, a politician, and the man for whom Akechi works and who left his mother after she got pregnant with Akechi--and any other goal is useless and pointless. Akechi yearns for affection and attention. He wants to be the best, he wants to be loved, he wants to be acknowledged. While he is smart, he's also terribly manipulative. His reputation is built on a lie, and he stubbornly hides away the truth for fear of everything falling apart. Because everything hinges on his ability to hide the truth about himself, he wants to protect that... even at the cost of any relationship that might just be a touch healthy. Goro Akechi is an ace detective. Goro Akechi is a persona-user.

Goro Akechi is also a murderer who uses the Metaverse.

Consumed by the desire for revenge and acknowledgement, Akechi flung himself into the Metaverse. He initiates mental shutdowns by killing a person's Shadow, and then solving the case. Akechi knows that detectives, and good ones, can be well-respected and loved. And at his core, that's what he wants more than anything. Akechi is bitter, fueled and driven by hatred, and interestingly enough, he seems to, at some level, accept that he won't be truly loved. Yet he still works toward that goal. Funnily enough, Akechi desires love and approval, but he's also distant, unwilling to change his tune when he spends time with people who, even though they're aware of his possibly betraying them in some way, seem to really enjoy his company. They accept them, but Goro Akechi is first and foremost selfish. Anyone who gets in his way is a threat to be eradicated, and Akechi has the means to do so. Unfortunately, Akechi is still a tool; he's chained to Shido, and even though he hates Shido desperately, he is far from innocent. After all, Akechi was the one who sought out Shido and offered his services... as an assassin.

Akechi's far from innocent. He knows what he's doing, and he does it to further his goals.

And then he meets the protagonist. Akechi is further consumed by rage and jealousy that Akira has what he never will, what he never has had. He hates him so much, in fact, that he wants to kill him. Akechi is obsessed with Akira, despite genuinely liking him and feeling a connection to him. Akechi is dangerous, then, prone to hyper focusing on a person and unable to see anything else. It's an interesting trait to have in someone who touts himself as an ace detective, and it's likely Akechi doesn't realize how singleminded he can be. Akechi even goes so far as to impulsively enter the Metaverse to confront the Thieves, because he can't bear the thought of losing. This translates to his overthinking things; there are often pauses in his speech as he tries to sort out the answer people want to hear. It's another characteristic of his compulsion to lie. No one truly sees Akechi's true self, and he prefers to keep it that way.

Akechi might be self-absorbed and a terrible person, but in the end, he is plenty capable of self-awareness. (It's worth noting that in the spinoff Persona Q2, Akechi's experiences with the other Persona users opens his eyes to how unpleasant he can be.) Unfortunately, it takes someone slapping him in the face with what he's missed in his singlemindedness. Akechi knows what he's doing is wrong, but he really doesn't care as long as he gets what he wants. Of course... that's not to say that Akechi isn't capable of regret. He is. When he faces death, he likely on some level knows he's in the wrong. He realizes his actions are foolish, and that if he were to survive, he would be ruined.

So Goro Akechi sacrifices himself to save the Thieves. Because having the world see him as a fraud would essentially be the end for him.

But it also might be that he really does care for Akira Kurusu. After all, Akechi genuinely enjoyed the time he spent with the Thieves. It was the first time he could be a kid, could be himself--without all the baggage and issues. Akechi feels some sort of affection for the Thieves, because they once accepted him despite knowing his plan: kill Akira, ruin the Thieves, take the credit for solving the Thieves case. Akechi's affection for the Thieves, short-lived and surrounded by a web of lies though it was, doesn't excuse what he's done. It just makes him a little more human, and provides a bit of insight into what could have been, if only Akira and Akechi had met a few years earlier.

    Character
    Name: Haru Okumura
    Series: Persona 5
    Timeline: Post-game
    Canon Resource Links: Over here!

Personality: Known to the student body of Shujin as eccentrically reserved, Haru has lived--if you can even call it that--a trapped life in seclusion. As the daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, a well-known CEO, her upbringing actually kind of shows: she's reserved and detached from the school's student body, keeping to herself as much as possible, with trust issues to the tune of "what if that person just wants to be friends with me to curry favor with my father or otherwise use my family's status." She's not had any friends her own age, or even much of a social life at all, making her awkward when she interacts with people, and she's more than just a bit sheltered. This exterior, however, conceals a gentle, warmhearted girl whose true nature shines once she becomes friends with the Phantom Thieves.

Despite her upbringing, Haru is very empathetic and kind. She's quick to become friends with the other Phantom Thieves once she's joined the group, and one of the first things she does when she's aware of who the Thieves are in the real world is to call them out on turning their backs on a friend (even if Morgana most likely didn't give her anywhere close to the full story). She's the only member of the group that can't be found butting heads with Ryuji at any given moment, and the only member of the group that didn't join in the first place in order to punish someone. When she becomes friends with someone, she's affectionate in manner with them--she quickly dubs Makoto "Mako-chan" out of excitement to finally have a friend her age. Aside from her loving and empathetic nature, Haru's a hard worker despite her upbringing, gladly putting effort into a task like gardening and wanting to open her own cafe chain where the items available are made from coffee beans and vegetables that have been homegrown. She makes it clear that she plans to attain the skills necessary for doing so. Another quality that may surprise others thanks to Haru's upbringing is a certain wisdom of hers--she's fully aware of the privileged life she's led so far, even if it was a rather unhappy one. She knows she's luckier than most people in some respects, and as a result, she's very aware of where her areas of expertise actually are and where she'd only just get in the way. Haru is also a person who appreciates any bit of freedom she can get, thanks to the life she's lived up until her father's death--one where every step of the path in front of her had been planned out without her say. Even something as simple as being able to go out shopping herself is a luxury she wouldn't have had before.

Also, on a cute note, Haru's something of a romantic. When she talks about a relationship to the protagonist early on in the Confidant, she says it should be built on a "love so intense that just seeing the other person makes your chest tighten up."

It's thanks to the Phantom Thieves that Haru can be her truest self, however, when she's operating as Noir in the Metaverse. As stated before, she's probably one of the only members of the Phantom Thieves that didn't explicitly join in order to punish someone. It's mainly so she can escape her arranged marriage to the gross creep Sugimura, but she does come to deeply desire her father's reformation, and a chance to reach a resolution with him... even if it's one that's robbed from her. She may have gone in without being true to her real desires to start with, meaning her Persona hadn't really awakened, but that really doesn't last long once her father's Shadow makes it clear he has no illusions about the type of man Sugimura really is and how little he actually cares for Haru's well-being. Despite her resolve, however, her father's Shadow still manages to get to her and trip her up near the end, where she falls for his fake apology, landing most of the other Thieves in a trap. She... she's doing her best. The reasoning for her code name, Noir, is something that she'd actually put thought into beyond a line-of-sight sort of logic: though she is a heroine of justice, she is still operating on the darker side of the law as one of the Phantom Thieves. It's also worth noting that her gentle nature goes out the window in the Metaverse, especially when it comes to any Shadow standing in her path. As Noir, Haru displays a rather startling bloodthirsty streak when it comes to Shadows. Combat is stress-relieving, finishing off an enemy is a thrill unlike any other, Shadows begging for their lives sets off a spark of excitement. Even Makoto, a rather brutal fighter as Queen, with a tendency to take out her pent-up anger on Shadows, finds Haru's sadistic streak rather alarming.

(The one time this anger shows up outside of the Metaverse is on Valentine's Day, if the protagonist has cheated on her, expressing her anger with an eerily calm smile. Woman scorned, indeed.)

In summary: Haru is a good girl, given everything she's gone through. Even if she's kind of alarming sometimes.

    Name: Dante
    Series: Devil May Cry
Timeline: End of Devil May Cry 3
    Canon Resource Links: Here!

    Original Character Background: N/A

Personality: Dante, like most people, is someone who was shaped by his past. He’s spent much of his life alone in some way or another - alienated by his heritage, the loss of people he’s cared for, having to shoulder the blame of tragedy - and it’s made him someone who’s...difficult to deal with. He hides his hurts with armor made out of crude humor and ego, using jokes and jibes to seem cool and unaffected by what happens around him.

At the surface, it seems like he takes very few things seriously. He reunites with his brother after years of assuming Vergil dead and the first thing he does is crack a joke. He treats the summoning of Temen-ni-gru - something that could very well destroy the world as he knows it - as a party he’s been invited to. It’s all one big joke, so none of it hurts. He’s not bothered by it at all. Nor is he bothered by being branded a demon - after all, a half-truth is still the truth, and he’s gotten some pretty sweet benefits from being half-demon. He can survive being shot in the head, after all, and Lady’s words are just words.

Dante is also someone who plays his cards close to his chest, for as much as he likes to brag and shittalk. He talks a big game, but very little of what he says is important until it becomes relevant. He doesn’t tell Lady why he’s in the Temen-ni-gru until he’s trying to stop her from having to face the monster her father has become - even though telling her before could have possibly changed the way she’s treated him during their climbs through the tower. Most of what he says simply doesn’t have any substance to it and serves his own ego, and there’s very little honesty. He’s not someone you should take at face value, because it’s very likely there’s something he isn’t saying. Because most of what he’s saying is garbage.

At his core, though, Dante is someone who cares. For as much as he acts - and is - a callous jerk, he cares deeply and sincerely about his friends and family. (Probably because there’s not much in those categories.) He cares about Vergil, despite everything, to the point where he cries over his brother’s decision to remain in the Underworld despite insisting that demons can’t cry. He cares about Lady, after a time, and he cares about getting revenge for his mother.

But, you know, he doesn’t want people to know that. He wants people to see him as the wacky, carefree asshole who showboats and manages to back it up. He wants people to see him as a badass. It’s easier that way.

    Character
    Name: Flayn
    Series: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Timeline: End of Silver Snow route
Canon Resource Links: Contains spoilers for the game but is also the best resource, + details on Silver Snow Route

Personality: Flayn is a calm, kind, and outgoing young lady. Having lived in isolation for a considerably long period of time, she is eager and excited to make friends and learn more about the world around her. Her naivete is at once charming and a little ridiculous; she is ignorant about many social trends and can come off as a bit eccentric (though completely harmless) when interacting with her peers. For example, when coming across Felix training with his sword, she brings him firewood and fruit to chop up with the blade, insisting that such activities are much more worthwhile than cutting up one's enemies. When the scent of oil leads her to Ferdinand maintaining various weapons and equipment, she is quick to comment on how delicious the oil smells, and how it would make her hungry all the time should her armor smell like that in battle - and then she runs off to "get [her] fill of fried goodies". Flayn is also incredibly fond of fish, fishing, and the sea; the coast holds precious memories of peaceful times with her family, and fish is her favorite food in no small part to her late mother's influence. She can show quite a lot of maturity and philosophic thinking at times, though this often leads to being sidetracked into deep and loving conversation regarding the sea and all the fish within it. One cannot help but be endeared by her bright and optimistic perspective, and her odd ways of thinking.

In truth, while Flayn looks quite young (much younger than the late teens she insists to be), she is at least over one thousand years old and, in truth, an ancient saint from Fodlan's past, Saint Cethlean. One of the last remaining "Children of the Goddess", she is a quintessential Fire Emblem Divine Dragon, a person who can shapeshift into a dragon form. Unfortunately, Flayn no longer has this ability in canon, and thus lives as a human with her father (who lives undercover as her brother) Seteth. Seteth is incredibly overprotective of Flayn, going so far as to intimidate young men who so much as look at her. This causes her incredible frustration; having been isolated for so long, Flayn's dearest wish is to live amongst people and get to know them, and thus she butts heads with Seteth often over his methods of protection. Still, she understands he is coming from a place of love and concern, and can reconcile with him easily given time.

Because of Flayn's naivete, she is easily tricked. A key point of this in canon is her kidnapping, where she is presumably lured away by an early antagonist, the Death Knight, in order for the organization he is working under to take Flayn's blood to use for experiments. While she still considers there to be an ultimately positive outcome from this (being allowed to join the main character's class as a student), and her positivity shows how well she can move on from past troubles, it stands to reason that she is too trusting for her own good.

When it comes to hiding her true identity as a saint of old, Flayn is...very, very bad. When asked questions regarding her age, her family, and her likeness to the saint in temperment and appearance, she pointedly avoids answering questions directly and always tries, in a very deliberate tone, to flip it around on the person asking the questions. It only raises more suspicion for the curious and clever. Flayn also, in the company of the main character, lets slip odd tidbits of insight that suggest her true age and identity often. For example, when reminiscing on her childhood, the main character can ask how long ago that was, only for Flayn to reply, "Oh, very. Very, very, very long ago." She also can, later on in the story, imply through optional dialogue that Seteth is not her brother through a story of how her parents met; obviously, by this time a player would have already learned that information, so she is not revealing anything new, but it is still a pointed clue as to her true identity. She can also have her own lost items returned to her, which are often noted as antiquated and old, such as a long outdated map of a city or a very dusty book of fables. Overall, it can be surmised that Flayn makes a point not to lie directly, if only because her attempts at deflection are comically poor at best.

In the first half of the game in all routes, Flayn is primarily motivated by her desire to make friends and be part of a living, thriving community. She is kind to all and loves to learn new things. In the second half of the game a la the Silver Snow route, this hasn't changed much, but she now desires to see the current war through to the end, and help to usher in an era of peace. She also wishes to assist the main character in any way she can, due to the good deeds they have done for her and their own personal backstory coming to light. This is much the same in the other routes, but with the added backdrop of being soley allied with the main religion of the country of Fodlan, the Church of Seiros, and not with any of the leaders of the warring nations.

Victory Road Sample: Flayn was, for lack of a better phrase, completely and utterly befuddled.

There was so much about this new world she'd woken up in that felt so incredibly foreign. The technology, for one, seemed beyond mere magic - to have the ability to keep beasts in capsules, or in a space beyond what she could fathom in a "PC Box"? To send missives available for anyone to see, by text or by the moving, audible pictures, with such ease that it was commonplace? And to say nothing of how food could be preserved would be a criminal offense, to be sure. Still, with such wonders came acclimation, and to say Flayn had grown used to any of this to even the smallest degree would be a lie.

Thankfully, she had reached Cherrygrove City without much trouble. Macha sought to that - the tiny green Chikorita she had been presented with upon arriving was a balm, a relief, a fast friend. She trotted circles around Flayn as they made their way further into the city, and Flayn watched her fondly.

"It is not too cold for you?" She asked, wrapped up herself against the late autumn chill. Macha shook her head, the vibrant leaf that grew from it swaying with the movement. Pokemon were...strange, of course, but clearly the plantlike ones could handle more chill and frost than the grass and trees. "Well, please tell me if you are. We can have some tea, and - oh!"

The steely glint of water had caught Flayn's eye, and she stopped immediately to take it in. Just down the road, at the edge of town, sat a lake with a pebbly beach. Waves lapped at the land languidly, and she could just spot a figure casting their line, waiting...but not for long. Soon a creature burst from the water, the figure letting out a triumphant laugh.

"We...we can fish here?" She asked aloud. Eyes turned to Macha, who seemed just as curious as Flayn was thrilled. "No one told me such a thing was possible in this world! Why, I have been missing out!" With one fluid motion, she bent down to pick up Macha, holding her with a gentle firmness. "Perhaps we ought to have that break for tea, and then...we shall find ourselves a fishing rod!"

She...DOES know that you can't eat the fish caught in this world...right?

Steven on the Steven Universe Wiki

    Personality:
Steven is quite literally what happens when you take the trope of an alien life form that’s enamored with all things new and Earth-original and combine it with the natural curiosity and enthusiasm of a human child. He consistently tries to find the upside and joy in almost anything, from being stuck on a deserted island to the jerkhole teenaged cashier Steven for some reason considers a friend. Part of this is a deliberate choice to find joy and beauty everywhere, a possible effort to emulate the legacy of the mother he never knew; in an early episode an insult to his mother’s memory prompts Steven’s first angry outburst at Lars, the above-mentioned jerkhole, indicating that Steven is well aware of Lars’ less than friendly attitude towards him and chooses to ignore it and consider him a friend anyway. The other part is simple zest for life; Steven is relentlessly optimistic and upbeat and darn it he’s going to do his best to help you be happy too. Steven’s desire to help literally everyone around him begins as a need to prove himself to the other Crystal Gems - if he helps other people, and them, then he’s useful and gets to go on magic missions with them and they’ll keep spending time with him and won’t abandon him. It’s also rooted in and eventually grows into entirely an altruistic desire to help and heal those around him. Steven has a bit of an odd relationship with empathy - his powers literally help him connect with people around him on a mental and emotional level, and several more are based on his desire to help them and relieve their pain, and he just kind of generally likes helping those around him and is genuinely distressed when they’re hurting. But at the same time, he can have trouble recognizing that pain and distress in others, especially when he’s focused on his own priorities or the very enthusiasm that makes him want to help at all. Notably, after returning from being kidnapped into space (as you do) he can’t understand why his friend Connie is upset with him for turning himself over to aliens that wanted him dead; everything turned out alright, he’s fine, he’s back, so she should be fine too, right? It takes a very blatant equivalent situation hitting him in the face to realize that she’s upset with him for risking himself alone instead of working as a team as they’d constantly promised each other. Likewise, after initially winning over the hostile, long-abandoned gem Spinel, he consistently seems to ignore her or focus on other things to the point that it triggers her paranoia and fear of abandonment, setting off their conflict and her attempt to destroy the entire planet (again, as you do) fresh. And as the scale of conflicts Steven is forced to deal with grows, so does his need to help literally everybody, even if some of the things he wants to fix aren’t, or at least shouldn’t be, his responsibility. Monster threatening the town? Gotta fix that. Two of his friends temporarily break up? Gotta fix that. The alien race your mom came from is actually a galactic dictatorship that suppresses all individuality? GOTTA FIX THAT. It’s small wonder Steven’s had more than a few emotional and mental breakdowns over the course of the series.

The biggest advantage Steven has in the face of all this escalating responsibility is, as he eventually states himself, his ability to learn and change. Even if his growth isn’t perfect, every moment of difficulty and struggle leads to some kind of personal growth or revelation, however minor. Though he was always a source of emotional support for the other Crystal Gems, and often his more off-the-wall ideas proved to have merit, he was initially someone who still needed heavy protection and guidance, sitting out or being carried through dangerous situations. Over the course of the series we see this change as he grows into someone capable of taking the lead, mirrored in a growth in control over his powers. At the start of the series, Steven is sidelined during even basic crisis like a corrupted Gem attack; by the end of the series and the movie, he’s making the choice to face and try to rehabilitate the most powerful antagonists in his universe, with the other Gems following him. He also goes from having a relatively simplistic, good-vs-evil view of reality in which the Crystal Gems can do no wrong, to confronting and understanding the darker, grayer aspects of life. It’s a progression of lore that mirrors Steven’s growth; learning that the monsters they fight are corrupted Gems, then of the civil war to protect the Earth from colonization millenia ago, to finding out that his mother was forced to kill an enemy leader to save the Earth, to finding out that she secretly was the enemy leader she had supposedly killed, and having to deal with not just all of that but the reactions of everyone around him as well. Despite all of this, he never becomes jaded enough to see violence as a first resort. He's not above fighting, and knows that sometimes it's necessary, but his ultimate goal is always to minimize conflict and talk things out. Even when facing the Diamond Authority that had attempted to colonize Earth and had repeatedly tried killing him and the rest of the Crystal Gems, he was hopeful of finding common ground and talking things out. This doesn't always work to his advantage; his straightforward attempt at talking to a Gem who was sending remote droids to Earth, for example, did get him the short term answers needed but also escalated the conflict, alerted the Gem homeworld that the Crystal Gems had survived the war on Earth, and inadvertently painted a target on several close friends that weren't involved.

Ultimately, Steven just wants everyone to have peace and happiness, but he's painfully aware that maintaining such a peace is constant work, however much he might wish otherwise. Or, as he bitterly phrases it in the aftermath of his conflict with Spinel: “There's no such thing as happily ever after. I’ll always have more work to do.” Even if overall Steven has managed to maintain an upbeat attitude, the constant conflict and responsibility wears on him.

    Name: JW
    Series: OC
    Timeline: Post 'book' 2

    Original Character Background:
WHEN YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN GD WIKI

    World Info:

JW's setting is sort of your run-of-the-mill Earth with hidden supernatural things that have some kind of magnetic attraction to main characters. It's sort of a monster-of-the-week kind of setting for a series of short stories I'm working on. As of right now there are no real history differences between our own world and the Earth JW is from. I may eventually decide that some famous figure like Elvis was actually a unicorn or something, but that doesn't really matter in the long run.

There are three classes of supernatural being: undead, fae, and monsters. Undead contains everything from ghosts to vengeful 'demons' to homebrew necromancy projects. Fae are kind of that weird blurry space between creature and spirit and they don't even give a damn. They are unstable, free-roaming, and snobby. Don't mess with them. Monsters are simply creatures bound by biology that haven't been discovered or have fallen off the radar. They're the rarest.

Other dimensions exist and if you know where the thin places are you can pass between them. Like the layers in an onion, there are infinite dimensions circling the main 'base' dimension the stories take place in. Some are just blurry in-between places. It's possible to slip out of the world behind a gas station in Tennessee and pop out of some lady's bathroom in China. However you must know where the roads are. Otherwise, you might just wind up somewhere in the vacuum of space and promptly turn inside out. Some dimensions are exactly the same as Earth except you, dear reader, you actually play the saxophone. Or if you already play the sax, you're a belly dancer. Or maybe a rabbit.

There are three notable dimensions that cluster close to the base-world and make up something called The Memory Dogma: The Attic, The Underbed, and The Basement. They are guarded by three horses: Lost, Forgotten, and False. The memories of man collect here and sort of form a 'mindscape' for Earth as a whole. Some think fae are formed from this place but nobody knows.

One unique feature of this setting is that every single sentient being capable of reasoning between right and wrong has something called a Mindscape. This is a world that exists inside the individual's head and is populated by manifestations of facets of their personality. The happenings and appearance and even the functionality of this little world reflect what has happened to the character. Everyone's is different and VERY rarely do people even know theirs exists. JW has had brief brushes with his since he did some involuntary dimension hopping, but doesn't really understand it. He just knows there's an annoying trap-mouthed man in his head.

    Personality:

You know that sign at McDonalds that says 'refills same visit only'? They put that there because of people like JW.

James Walter picks his way through life glancing over one shoulder. Street smart and shifty-eyed, if he can take it, he will. Finders keepers, losers SUCK. Growing up in poverty with an abusive father, hopping from home to home and then world to world, and suddenly landing himself in an important position as an adult has given JW a skewed sense of WANT vs NEED. Suddenly an entire town is at his mercy and his fingertips. If it's yours, he covets it. If it's addressed to him, he gives it the stink eye and dunks it in water first because why are you being so nice? Nobody is nice for no reason! Money is his weakness though and it's an easy way to twist his arm no matter how high on the ladder he sees himself. JW has gone so far as to swallow live goldfish for a crisp twenty dollar bill.

And yet, he hates those with money. He envies and despises them and lets his envy leak over onto other privileged people like folks with high educations, claiming them to be know-it-alls. JW is petty and delights in any failure he sees them face. He is a hypocrite in denouncing things like fancy cars and expensive houses when he himself would absolutely indulge in the very same.

On the social end of things, JW tends to go on long solo walks, only coming home when it's time for dinner. When he does hang around people, he tends to be a wallflower and provide snide internal commentary. He isn't good at talking to people outside of ranting, small talk, or making sales. People are more trouble than they're worth in his opinion and if he can't get anything out of them, what's the use in bothering at all? As much as he'd like to call himself a lone wolf, he's more of a lonely wolf. JW is mentally ill and his schizophrenia causes him to come off as rude (even when he isn't trying to be) and distant. He's in a lot of pain due to it and other issues with his body so his fuse is short and his patience is thin as he is. When JW actually does make an effort to reach out and attempt to make friends, he tends to shove his entire leg down his throat. The best way to be friends with JW is to not take anything he says personally because he doesn't mean half of it.

James does surprisingly well with children though. He's ashamed of his incomplete education and doesn't feel nearly as pressured to sound 'smart' around them. He talks to them like equals. Their protection is very important to him. That is, until they become teenagers. He finds himself easily frustrated by them since he is suddenly an opponent. He reads too much into the attitudes they put on as they come into their own and, in turn, makes himself a great target for anybody looking to ruffle his feathers. JW somehow seems to age at least ten years when he comes within a twelve foot radius of a single Hip Teen.

Though his moral compass is wobbly (lying, cheating, stealing, more lying, leading people he doesn't like into fae-infested groves so that they end up on the receiving end of their pranks instead of him) he's not the sort to go out of his way to be cruel. He might make messes in public spaces but he won't do things that could cause harm, such as setting fires or leaving broken glass laying around. He doesn't like animals very much and while he will shout and shoo strays, he wouldn't hurt them. He smokes weed like a train that smokes a lot of weed and has been tempted by other substances but will turn right around and judge anybody with a scowl if he sees them drinking, toting himself as a teatotler.

James Walter is not a terribly good man, but he's not a bad man either. That's what is most important.

A WEIRD PSL WHERE HE IS DEAD BUT HE IS POST BOOK 2

[After much trial and error, JW has managed to start out a video message without much issue. It's a little crooked and the very edge of his thumb is visible on the right side of the screen, but hey. You can see his face and he isn't covering the mic this time! He's frowning but that's just his usual expression.]

Hello. Hey. It's Jim, listen, I'm over here at Pallet Town. Just got off the boat and a few miles back I think I saw something interesting in the water.

What kinda Pokemon is least likely to drown me if I ride it out there? I'm willing to barter for it, blew all my cash on the ferry. Thanks.

    Character
    Name: Applejack
Series: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Timeline: Post-Season 2 (Are we still able to import Route 29 AUs?)
    Canon Resource Links: MLP Wiki

Personality: Applejack's character focuses on the concept of strength and what it means to possess not only great physical strength, but also great strength of character. Before the series even begins, Applejack is well-known in her home town as a remarkably dependable and capable person. There is little she cannot do, and do alone, from construction and repairs, to solving disputes, to running her family ranch. She's athletic, has good business sense, and is musically-inclined. A true jack-of-all trades, it seems as if she could accomplish anything she sets her mind to, but such gifts comes with their own share of issues.

With dependability comes a hero complex. She can accomplish anything because she feels in her own mind that she has to. She pushes herself to the brink because the thought of letting herself down, letting anyone down, is unthinkable. Strong-willed and stubborn, Applejack takes "you can't" as a challenge, no matter how impossible, and will run herself ragged trying to prove her doubters wrong. Without the intervention of her friends, she can work herself to the point of collapse, all to prove that she can. Her competitive streak is also second-to-none, as second place is just the first loser. It's more important than almost anything to come out on top, and to do so fairly. It's not a real victory if you have to cheat to do so, and so help you if she catches you trying to rig the competition.

AJ's down-to-earth nature leaves her playing the role of the Straight Man in her circle of friends, acting as the grounding point to contrast against the more over-the-top antics going on around her. In many situations she will act as the last sane person in the room, and has expressed her frustration when her advice is ignored and bad things happen. Respect plays a large role in AJ's interaction with other characters, and a lack of it (be it towards her or others) from those she interacts with can set her off.

The concept of "family" has shaped much of her identity as a person. She lives on her family's land, works her family's farm to run her family's business. At the end of the day she is, if nothing else, an Apple. Having lost her parents at a young age, she was instead raised by her elderly grandmother, along with her older brother and younger sister. This is the ignition point that forms the basis of her character later in life, of being self-sufficient, of not being a bother or a drain on anyone else, of being able to take care of not only herself, but anyone else who may need it. She spends much of her young life acting as a mother figure to her sister, gaining her empathy beyond her years. Usually the first to notice when something is wrong, she will always be there to provide support and encouragement.

That's not to say that you have to be blood in order to be family, however. AJ considers her circle of friends to be a second family, one where she is able to open up more and allow herself to be vulnerable. Showing the cracks in her armor makes her deeply uncomfortable, but she has slowly learned that she doesn't have to keep her guard up all the time, and that there are people who love her that will help shoulder her burdens. She'll shoulder theirs as well, giving them all the time and help they may need to solve their problems or accomplish their goals. It may take work to win over this stubborn southerner, but once you do, you'll have one of the best friends you could ever ask for.

    Victory Road Sample:
It was supposed to be perfect. How many months had she spent scrubbing floors at the local gym, hauling boxes at the Pokemon Center? It had taken every dollar she had, but she had finally managed to buy a spot of land to settle down. It was only a few acres, and a little bit remote, but it was hers. Hers to work, to build, to have a stable home and growing income, to finally have some semblance of the life she had before she came to this world. It would be slow goings at first of course, but over time things would get bigger and better, just as it had before on Sweet Apple Acres. There may be trainers out there who can match wits with her in battle, but agriculture was her element. There was no one better.

Which only made the sight before her all the more disheartening. The time had come for her first harvest, the moment where she can finally say with confidence that she was a farmer once again. She had taken her basket to the base of the small cluster of trees she called her orchard, prepared to take the haul to market. But when her Tauros bashed his head against their first target, only a handful of fruit fell free. Worse, what fell lose were partially-eaten or riddled with imperfections, the kind of apples that would be ground up for feed, not sold in a store. Something had gotten into her groves, leaving only the rejects behind. But all it took was one upward glance to find the culprit, or culprits as it were.

Hanging from the branches, blending in with the leaves, with their beady eyes and green bodies, were Applin. A lot of Applin.

The apple-obsessed monsters had only come to this world a short time ago, but they were already here making their homes in her livelihood! The blonde's mind raced, trying to figure out what she could do to end this infestation. Dragon-types were hardly her specialty. Poison and Ice would hurt the trees, and Bugs would only make things worse! Acting quick, she instructs her bullish partner to keep knocking the little pests away from their quarry, trap them with Rock Tomb, do whatever was needed to keep them from ruining any more apples.

She had to go make a call, get some help. Surely there were some Fairy-type trainers nearby that could lend a hand. She only hoped that when it was all said and done, there'd be enough left over to reward whoever showed up.
