APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Open!
Applications are checked roughly weekly unless otherwise stated.

  • We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

  • While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!

  • A reminder for those waiting to hear back: Please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

  • Please use the form below to apply! If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the mods.

    Original Character Background:
Melissa was raised in a military family, with her parents moving frequently from base to base. Her older brother joined the military as well, and while for the most part that appealed to Melissa, she wanted to try the ‘stability’ thing for a while, so right out of high school she joined a local security firm.

She was a hard worker who was incredibly focused on bringing JUSTICE to the world, and thanks to her dedication she began taking on jobs that her coworkers didn’t want, citing weird happenings and creepy people. They were weird, and she got more and more curious as she continued to work these jobs... until one day after trying to catch a thief who’d made it past the other guards, they both had a run-in with a vampire. She and said criminal agreed that these creatures were the real threat, so they teamed up to fight them. They were eventually joined by a doctor, a scientist, and an ex-military sniper.

At work, Melissa became the ‘go-to’ for any weird jobs, but thanks to her new Hunter duties her free time dwindled significantly. It only got worse on the arrival of a request from a Mr. Nobody, a mysterious backer who wanted to help them fight these creatures. He didn’t ask for anything specific in return, but the group found themselves getting into more trouble with the local vampires, going around and trying to eliminate the higher up ones successively. Melissa, unfortunately being the only one whose name they knew, wound up being ‘Summoned’ via magic (aka they knew her name so they did the magic and she just walked riiiight to them, effectively getting herself kidnapped), and several of the vampires made her a deal. If the cell helped them out against a werewolf riot, they would be rewarded. However, the group saw this as a way for some infighting to clear out the vampire and werewolf populations, so they went zombie hunting instead.

But the vampire with the Summoning power survived, and Melissa once again found herself kidnapped. While her team was en route to rescue her, she woke up feeling oddly powerful, oddly connected to the vampire leaning over her, and extremely hungry. When presented with her boss, the chief security guard of her company, she resisted for a minute or so before kind of sort of maybe devouring him. Shut up, she was hungry.

Her team arrived, Mr. Nobody in close pursuit, who did his best to kill Melissa’s sire. The team, thinking maybe Mr. Nobody was the real problem now, chased after him, while Melissa made sure her sire was well enough to escape- a fact she lied about when questioned by her team later. Since Melissa was the only real leader figure they had, as well as the only one capable of talking without pissing people off, they consented to keep her on the team, but said that the first time she lost control they’d kill her.

After a few days to recover (in which Melissa found out her sire had fled to Canada, and began giving her run down courses in how to be a proper vampire via email, as well as officially quitting the force), the group set out to confront Mr. Nobody, who it turned out was a Geist. After a pretty intense battle in which they thought they killed him (they didn’t, because geists are damn hard to kill), Melissa came up with a new plan- starting with nearby areas, Melissa would integrate herself into vampire societies, finding out their weak points (while simultaneously figuring out more about the world for herself) and coming up with the best way for the team to strike and eliminate an entire city as quickly as possible.

    Personality:
Melissa very much has a mentality of the end justifies the means. She will use whatever she can (whether it’s teaming up with criminals or using her vampiric powers for vigilante justice) to do what she thinks is right. She’ll be willing to listen as to why she shouldn’t do a certain thing, or to look at things from an alternative viewpoint, but once she thinks she’s figure out the best way it’s hard to sway her.

On the job, Melissa is extremely serious and focused. She’s a task manager and a leader; she can roll with jokers as in they can’t distract her, but she will put an end to the nonsense if it starts interfering. Most of her skills are verbal- she’s persuasive and can command a presence, as well as having the knowledge as how to not shove her foot in her mouth. She’s also pretty confident in her firearms ability. However, while she can work her way out of tricky situations, anything academic or involving long term planning are not her forte. Most of the time she knows that and will ask others, but... not always. In general she’s pretty good at taking input from others, but if she’s angry then it’s more of an attitude of ‘shoot first, ask questions later.’

On that note, her moral compass isn’t always pointed in exactly the right direction. Her main goal is always to do what’s best for the greater good, but she often doesn’t know how to get there, especially when given a lot of information. If the correct choice isn’t obvious, she’ll probably jump into whichever one feels right without much consideration. She can change course, but this means she’s likely to waste a bit of time getting there unless steered correctly. This isn’t something she likes to do, but tends to justify it by saying either it was worth it for the end goal or that whatever it was needed to be taken care of anyway. She’s very good at deluding herself into thinking she hasn’t done anything truly objectionable.

Outside of work, what little time she gets, Melissa likes to let loose completely- go out drinking, dance, find someone to spend the night with, the works. However, due to her near constant paranoia about the supernatural, after joining the Vigil she found it very hard to relax. Even when she went out, she was too on edge to be comfortable drinking or going home with (or worse, taking home) someone she hadn’t done a thorough background check on. This left her rather irritable, so she began deliberately decreasing her available free time so she wouldn’t have the chance to disappoint herself, turning to her cell mates for amusement. (Though that really only gives her people to fondly roll her eyes at.)

Melissa can be a very nice person, as well as exceptionally flirty. She takes a decent amount of pride in her ability to be hot, on and off the clock, so it’s hard to catch her in any element of disarray, unless she’s straight out of a fight. The pride itself isn’t the issue here, as much as Melissa’s instinct to always appear desirable, you know, in case she ever stops being too paranoid to sleep with someone.

After being turned into a vampire, Melissa has a few added neuroses to the pot. She gains the fear of all normal vampire fears, fire, sunlight, etc, as well as an even tighter hold on people’s perception of her. She has a highly decreased sense of empathy and emotion thanks to being a vampire, something she works hard to hide from her teammates, as well as having to hide from vampires whose society she’s infiltrating. She’s torn between her Hunter instincts and those of basic survival- what she’s doing is suicidal, in many ways, which is both a risk she’s willing to take and is something she constantly looks for ways around. She’s well aware that her friends are aging and she isn’t, and she also knows that more likely than not they’re going to die during the course of their work. She doubts she’d find other Hunters willing to work with her, so joining vampiric society is a way to secure herself a place to work from in the future. And, maybe even stop her hunt... eventually.
