APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Open!
Applications are checked roughly weekly unless otherwise stated.

  • We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

  • While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!

  • A reminder for those waiting to hear back: Please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

  • Please use the form below to apply! If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the mods.

    Character
    Name: Rapunzel
    Series: Tangled
Timeline: Hiding the diadem/satchel on her way to let Gothel back into the tower
    Canon Resource Links: Disney Wikia

Personality: Rapunzel is a young woman cheerful and energetic enough to power a small city. Get it? Because SOLAR power?? Her overall first impression on others is that she's very happy and optimistic, even if maybe a touch naive and paranoid (hi Flynn). Honestly this isn't at all far off the mark of truth! She's actually quite naive about most things, but it's only because of her lack of experience, something that was almost entirely out of her own control. She learns very quickly, though, and while she maintains a sweet, forgiving, and sort of trusting attitude towards others (She could have easily been duped by the ruffians, for example.) she's also not one to completely duped and taken advantage of. Despite her inexperience with the world Rapunzel is quite capable of taking care of herself, both with resources and without, when push comes to shove, so there's no need to worry about her starving on the side of the road somewhere.

She's easily excitable, both negatively and positively (example: going back and forth on whether or not she should have left the tower or if she should return home at once, going so far as to alternate between "I am a horrible daughter/despicable human being." and "I AM NEVER GOING BACK!!!", until finally reaching her keel again), and because she's experiencing so much of life for the first time she also seems to bounce between being a sweet and polite young lady and that energetic kid that you can't take your eye off of for a second.

As she experiences and learns more, coming closer to realizing her dream and simultaneously learning about the less wondrous things in life Rapunzel begins to mellow. Her growth follows the arc of the movie to a tee. It starts off tentative but strong, rises to an almost fever pitch, strengthens with resolve, hesitates briefly with the uncertainty of her future, and finally evens out as it finds its keel again. she's very mature and reflects her age well at points in the film.

From childhood she's been accustomed to being on her own most of the time. Since she was old enough to understand and follow mother Gothel's instruction she's done everything she was told. Her obedience is to the point that she wouldn't even have dared to leave the tower without her mother's permission before encountering Flynn. Gothel has ensured that Rapunzel is thoroughly dependent on her for nearly everything, and for seventeen years that method has worked well. Rapunzel herself, however, has secretly harbored a dream for years that has kept the willful flame and determination going, slowly building her strength over time if only due to the fact that she had to learn to stand up for what she wanted with mother Gothel rather than being afraid to ask for everything. If she were any other way her existence would have been much more dreary, but Gothel seemed to relent on keeping Rapunzel happy as long as it meant she would remain obedient, see her as the "good guy", and most importantly keep her from actually daring to leave the tower no matter how curious she became. Rapunzel is actually a very willful girl, but didn't really show this until she finally worked up the nerve to ask for the one thing she'd wanted most since she was old enough to remember-- but simply dared not ask for. More than anything else she wanted to see the floating lights.

But back to her encounter with Flynn for just a moment: He's the very first human being that she's ever encountered outside of her mother (Pascal, her best friend, is actually a chameleon, and even though he can't speak back verbally she's gotten entirely accustomed to holding conversations with him or with herself, so she's not a total social recluse. Wow that sounds odd.) and he both represents and sparks in her a courage to finally leave the tower (without her mother's permission) and live her dream. There's nothing quite like sneaking up on and knocking an unsuspecting grown man unconscious with an iron skillet to get the confidence going. She managed to blackmail Flynn into giving her what she wanted-- an escort to Corona (where the lights displayed every year) and back again with every intention of Gothel never being the wiser. This demonstrates that Rapunzel, when pushed, can have quite the sly side to her. Something we see again when she sort of guilt trips Maximus and Flynn into cooperating long enough for her to see the lights.

She's courageous, demonstrated countless times in the film, but most noticeably when she attempts to rescue Flynn from an entire TAVERN full of ruffians despite being so grossly outnumbered, and with only her frying pan and her words to make her case. It's shown again when she and Flynn are making their escape down the tunnels and into the area with the dam, and then again at its most poignant state when she stands up against Gothel, who was not only the only mother she'd ever known but also her mental and emotional tormentor for years.

She's artistic, and there are so many examples of this you couldn't shake a stick at all of them if you tried. For example: The entire interior of the tower was decorated by Rapunzel's art. She created an enormous mural in the town square during the festival, she's shown a talent for flower baking, painting, knitting, drawing in various mediums (chalk, paint, possibly charcoal, pencil, and ink as well), and singing. She's optimistic, well intended, and even though she can initially be a little nervous around new people she warms to them very quickly-- even the likes of bandits and ruffians --once she realizes they're not as scary or dangerous as they seem.

Rapunzel is what you'd call a romantic, too, easily taken and charmed by the sights, smells, and sounds around her. That's only to be expected, after all, having spent her life in the same series of rooms. For that reason she's extremely curious, prone to excite easily. If you were to take her into a crowded area like a fair you should be fully prepared to find her wandering off on her own, despite possible warnings not to. She honestly wouldn't be able to help herself, there's an entire world out there that she hasn't been aware of for the better part of her life. She has so much catching up to do that it's not funny, or maybe it is, it depends on WHAT it is she's currently learning about.
