We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!
The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.
While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!
A reminder for those waiting to hear back: Please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!
Please use the form below to apply! If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the mods.

Character Name: Jean Kirschtein Series: Attack on Titan Timeline: During the Female Titan arc, after the Forest of Big Trees but before the Battle at Sina Canon Resource Links:Comprehensive, spoiler-filled wiki
Personality: For someone meeting Jean for the first time, they’d see a brash, arrogant young man without a care in the world. Jean presents himself as someone who has it together, someone who is very good at what he does and knows it, someone with no time for those who can’t keep up with him. He’d seem unhelpful, almost condescending, and too focused on his own goals to pay much attention to anyone else. In addition, he’d have no problem telling a stranger about his goals and why they are the only ones that make sense, going so far as to ridicule the other person’s ideas if they didn’t fall in line with his own.
However, if anyone stays past that first meeting and the poor introductions and got to know him better, another side of Jean would emerge. He never gets particularly better at working in a group, and his overly blunt personality would still cause conflicts, but he would also begin to show that he does, in fact, care about those around him. He becomes more patient with those whose ability levels are not on his own, and recognizes that some people have different skill sets that are equally valuable (this is especially the case with Armin Arlert, with whom he forms a grudging friendship). He’s willing to talk ideas and strategies through, particularly on the battlefield, listening to other’s ideas and formulating theories with them.
This is also where his leadership abilities would start to emerge. He’s capable of taking in a situation on the field and assessing it, coming to a conclusion about what to do. He’s also not afraid to leap right in and lead those following him directly, no armchair soldiering for him. He leads by example, and here his brashness and almost foolish bravery work for him, inspiring others to follow his example. However, he’s not wasteful or uncaring about other’s lives, showing moments of weakness and conflict when faced with horrible choices. These are only moments, though, and he’s able to push past them and do what needs to be done.
He doesn’t forget about these awful choices, though. There is a side of himself that he shows only to his closest friend, Marco. This Jean is almost unrecognizable from first impression Jean: he’s quiet, contemplative, and has serious self-doubt about his abilities. He admits his doubts to Marco, giving his friend a glimpse of his internal conflict, and when Marco’s response is less than flattering and probably not what Jean wants to hear (although it is also very honest and a very accurate assessment), Jean listens quietly and takes what Marco tells him under advisement, rather than lashing out. When he trusts someone and is comfortable about them, Jean isn’t as afraid to be vulnerable and honest with them, even though it’s difficult for him. Moreover, he’s haunted by the things he’s done, by the lives that have been lost under his command, and we get the impression this is something he’ll be thinking about for a long time.
Unfortunately, Jean loses that one close relationship when Marco dies, and it’s only then that we see the Jean he never shows anyone else. If Jean was haunted by the other deaths under his command, Marco’s is the most difficult for him to process. We get the impression that the concept of home is not a place for Jean (he seemed largely indifferent to Trost getting invaded by titans, despite that being his home district), but rather a person. Marco dying is the same as Jean losing his home, and he’s stunned and almost broken by it. This is a wound he’ll be carrying with him for a long time, possibly the rest of his life.
One of the things that comes from Marco’s death is Jean’s decision to join the Survey Corps. This is something none of the other trainees understand, and they seem a bit foggy on the idea even after Jean does an admitted half-assed job explaining his reasoning. He won’t tell them the real reason: before he died, Marco told him that he knew Jean would choose the right thing, and in this case, joining the Survey Corps is the right thing to do. Moreover, during the induction ceremony where he officially joins, Jean thinks to himself “Don’t make me hate myself any more than I already do,” and pictures his friends dying at the hands of the titans. He’s visibly shaking during the entire ceremony, obviously terrified and wracked with guilt, but he joins anyway. Marco was right: he chose the right thing to do in the end, even if it went against all his stated intentions and gut instincts.
This is a huge turning point for Jean, and the beginning of him growing up and coming into his own. He’s still arrogant and blunt after this, but it’s toned down. He’s more patient, more willing to listen to others, and he begins to embrace his natural leadership abilities. He still fights with Eren and runs off on his own agendas when faced with authority he doesn’t recognize, but he also takes being in the Survey Corps seriously, putting himself in danger to support the Corps and obeying Commander Erwin with a minimum of fuss. He’s maturing, in other words, and starting to turn into the man he’ll one day become.

[For someone who had never seen a camera or a video until fairly recently, Jean has taken to both rather quickly. He always did enjoy fooling around with things and learning about them through experimentation, and while the angle of the camera is distinctly unflattering—somehow stretching his long face out even longer while simultaneously giving him six chins—the sheer indignation in his eyes comes across perfectly.]
Everyone else gets something cute, or useful, or sweet or whatever. And I get this.
[The camera swings around, jittering wildly out of control for a moment, and then focuses on a round, red and white ball with glaring eyes. The ball’s eyes narrow further when it realizes the camera is on it, and it lunges forward with a crackling sound. Jean yelps and jumps backwards, making the camera swing wildly for a moment.]
See! He’s crazy!
[The Voltorb crackles ominously but doesn’t try to come any closer, watching Jean from where it hovers.]
So how am I supposed to make friends with this thing? Because that’s what we’re supposed to do, right? Make friends with them?
[Jean sounds almost condescending about the idea of befriending the Pokemon. Anyone listening very closely might notice how his voice is trembling the tiniest bit, betraying all his uncertainty that he will vehemently deny if called on it. His hand stretches into view, pale with callouses across the palm, and he extends it towards the Voltorb.]
You want to be friends, asshole?
[The Voltorb lunges forward again, and the camera falls to the ground, pointing upwards towards the sky, capturing cheery blue and recording the sounds of electricity crackling and Jean shouting.]
