APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Open!
Applications are checked roughly weekly unless otherwise stated.

  • We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

  • While players are welcome to play multiple characters (five characters maximum are allowed per player!), please only apply for one character at a time, and wait for a decision before submitting another application!

  • A reminder for those waiting to hear back: Please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

  • Please use the form below to apply! If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the mods.

    Personality:
(Cw: minor descriptions of violence, murder, and familial abuse)
In a game about solving murder cases and proving your defendants innocent, things can get rather heavy. Maya Fey, sister of Phoenix Wright’s mentor Mia Fey, provides a glimmer of sunshine in situations that could otherwise be intensely frustrating. Maya Fey is a nearly unstoppable force and an incredible sidekick. While sometimes naïve, childish, and clumsy, she can also be incredibly clever. Phoenix and Maya think about things very differently, thus allowing them to see almost every possibility when they work together. It’s a good thing, too; where Phoenix might miss something, Maya is almost always sure to pick it up.

She is a little immature, and much like the rest of the cast, a huge dork. Maya enjoys samurai movies and ‘kid shows’, as well as collecting trading cards from those shows. She loves to investigate and cause minor trouble, and often teases Phoenix with ‘criminal’ ideas. Maya loves things, and that’s important; what Maya likes, Maya is passionate about. Whether it’s food or being a medium, or people who are important to her, Maya is a passionate girl with a fiery spirit and a bit of an attitude to keep up with Phoenix.
Maya also has an absolutely voracious appetite. She often jokes about having four stomachs; one for burgers, one for steaks, one for sweets, and one for all the other things she could eat. She jokes about a lot of things, in fact, and sometimes does so seemingly only to give Phoenix grief. Her curiosity, voracity, and stubborn persistence liken her to a juvenile cat; not quite a baby, but still pushing her nose into everything even if it might burn her paws. Maya certainly isn’t afraid to get burnt, either; she’ll do what she can, even if she regrets it afterward. If anything, she certainly can’t stay down for long-- Maya seems nigh incapable of holding a grudge or staying down for the count. Only when things are weighing down on her after believing she is not able to help Edgeworth, who she has come to see as a friend through Phoenix, does she feel down on herself for quite a while.

This, however, is where Maya Fey becomes most incredible. Maya’s deepest love is for other people and she can consider people friends even only after days of meeting them. She feels genuine joy for their successes and sorrow for their downfalls, and is incredibly empathetic. She is the one who is most enthusiastic about Phoenix’s new position as head of the law office, even if he is replacing the job of Maya’s deceased sister. Maya is the one to risk herself being in contempt of court when Lotta Hart’s testimony isn’t adding up and the Judge and prosecutor Von Karma refuse to listen to Phoenix, and shows no remorse about being sent to the detention center for a second time. It’s Maya who, when Prosecutor Von Karma threatens Phoenix and Maya with an over-charged tazer, jumps in front of Phoenix in attempts to grab the evidence Von Karma is stealing and give Phoenix enough time to run before Von Karma can attack him as well. Maya Fey may be clumsy, curious, and immature, but it’s her strong, golden heart that makes her such a great assistant and eventually, a grand mystic.

Even to the end of the series, Maya's behaviour can easily be misinterpreted as a lack of competence or ability to become the Master of Kurain. This, however, is exactly what her aunt believed and exactly completely incorrect. Maya's behaviour often appears to be immature, but in reality she simply has a different way of dealing with things. She may often seem scatterbrained and make people wonder how she even remembers to brush her teeth at night without a mother or sister to scold her into it, but the reality is, Maya has spent many years without a mother to watch over her and many years with her sister gone to study. She doesn't always act like an adult and she doesn't always do what she is expected to do or what is considered her responsibility, but in the end she will always come through. Though she seems so strange in behaviour, she does her best to stay strong and supportive of those close to her.

In addition to this observation, one should also recognise that Maya has always had significant reasons not to want to become master of Kurain. To do so would be to admit that her mother and sister are both gone forever, and by the end of game three her position as future master is what is getting her targeted so much. It's perfectly reasonable for Maya to want a normal life, so it's no surprise that after the trial for the murderer of her mother, Maya mentions no longer wanting to be associated with the Fey name. However, once again, Maya pulls through. Being sad isn't a sign of a lack of strength, after all; the fact that Maya always pulls herself back up is what stands as the hallmark of her fortitude. Her childish demeanour and sunny outlook do not prevent her from being a competent person or potential leader; in fact, it's Maya's personality that could very well be the starting point for Kurain Village returning to its former glory. Her energy, ease of making connections, and strength will easily guide her through her status as the master of Kurain.

As Maya progresses through Professor Layton versus Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney (assumed by most to take place after Trials and Tribulations), her growth as an adult is even more evident. She's somewhat less klutzy and almost all of her comedic mishaps seem to be intentional-- either to get Phoenix's (and Professor Layton's) goat or to keep her friends from getting too down on themselves. She's a force of optimism and care, being kind, comforting, and uplifting to the game's main character Espella, and somewhat constructively dealing with Espella's evident symptoms of disassociation.

The game also solidified two other points; the first being that Maya is very private about dealing with her own pain. Though she may cry for others or for petty things in front of people, when she has a tough internal problem, she tends to try to deal with that pain herself. She is found by Luke Triton in the middle of the night, cleaning (doing chores!) as she ponders the significance of her false memories from her adventure, and is shown to be very affected by the problem once Luke coaxes the truth from her. The second poin is that Maya does see herself as an adult and recognizes her own responsibility despite her antics. When Luke invites her out to look for the missing cat after the aforementioned scenario, Luke remarks that he will protect her and keep her safe in the night. Maya answers (to herself more than to Luke) something along the lines of, "But, I'm the adult here… isn't that my job?" and very subtly keeps Luke on track through the adventure. Though Maya never compromises on her playful personality, she is still very capable of making sure to use it to keep her friends on track in ways they might not even notice-- whether it's keeping Phoenix on his toes to make sure he doesn't fall into his lethargic ways or gently teasing Pearl to teach her lessons without getting strict with her the way Morgan does.
