We ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!
The comment character limit on Dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Character Name: Mari Ohara Series: Love Live! Sunshine!! Timeline: Post Season One (to avoid spoilers for S2) Canon Resource Links:it's a wiki luigi
Personality: 'Sunshine' is personified in Mari herself. Out of all of the members of her group-- and damn near anyone she knows --there is no bigger ray of light in a room when she steps into it. Mari is an ambitious, globetrotting young lady of only seventeen, who only wants one thing in life: To see people achieve their dreams and be happy. She is the kind of person who will go out of her way to see a goal blossom with energy, determination, and fun.
Always smiling, her catchphrase is the word SHINY which she uses as a descriptor in regards to other people and just something that she can yell out when she is excited. Not actually being Japanese, she tends to drop English or Italian words and phrases into her regular dialogue in a charming and silly manner that she finds to both be fun and a habit. For example, rather than greeting people properly, she will use Ciao or the English Hello without bowing and uses honorifics mostly because it is considered 'proper' by Japanese standards and she is supposed to look professional in some of what she does. In her time, she has studied abroad on multiple occasions, returning back and forth to Japan to attend the private Catholic school that she eventually goes on to manage throughout the course of the series. She has a love of Japanese phrases and idioms because of their inspirational messages and how they can tighten the morale of a group.
At the very beginning when Chika, You, and Riko wanted their ~ School Idol Club ~ advertised despite being swept aside by mostly anyone they showed it to, Mari (who had tried being an idol herself) told them that she would let them perform if they could get enough people to come watch. While they only get a dozen or so students to watch them, she allows it nonetheless and is the catalyst to Aqours existing the way it does now. Mari doesn't take the credit for it, citing her being the school's chairwoman as her reasoning when their school is having enough financial issues in a cliche plot-point that wasn't the plot of the first series at all. The opportunity to have Chika and her friends have their club-- despite what Dia says --fills her with the joy of getting to see them excel in the future while maintaining her position and job as the chairwoman. Not the type to abuse her power in anyway, at the end of the day her word trumps Dia's. Throughout the rest of the series, Mari exists as a force who aids the girls in their work, encouraging them as a type of mentor. If she sees a chance for success, she grabs it and holds fast.
While she is by no means the leader of Aqours, she is most certainly the backbone. As a product of her upbringing, she is business and money-savvy, priding herself in how she is able to organize the school while also maintaining the group's budget and advertising. This comes in the form of managing promotional videos, helping organize performance venues, and keeping tabs on their competition in Lives. A lot of the time, she can come off with ideas that are tacky or gimmicky. Do they need a spectacular and eye-catching scene for a video? She can get them a white horse to ride across the beach for them to yell their battle-cry for the cameras. None of the other girls have the experience that she does, so she will have no problem boasting her abilities...
Also she can just. Get that horse. Borrow it. Maybe return it. She's that rich. No consequences whatsoever come to mind at all for her.
It's funny when the other side of the coin is flipped because that is where Mari's surface personality jumps right into your face. 'Sunshine' being mentioned before is no joke. While she is the most 'professional' of the girls from a technical standpoint, the side of her we see the most is one of an energetic, inspirational young lady with a streak for extreme attention-seeking. Why did I mention the Hardcore Side of her first? Because it'll otherwise get drowned out by everything she throws on top of it. She is all about being loud and confident to a degree that can be grating on other people. She wears designer clothes, the flashiest accessories, and has the loudest voice in the world. If she isn't heard, her message hasn't gotten across. On the one hand, she uses her confidence as a driving force of encouragement. On the other, she can come off as extremely obnoxious and agitating to be around. The other girls (namely Dia) have to tell her to settle down when she begins flying off the rails despite her intentions generally being good-natured. She has no problem being flirtatious and using the various aspects of Idol Culture that make her unattainable by fans for the purpose of gaining PR and attention-- such as her costumes, the confidence in her looks, and her naivety toward Japanese culture that make her look like a ditz.
In several pieces of promotional media and side-stories, Mari expresses that she does not really understand why people in Japan are so 'uptight' about their ways of living as opposed to other countries. She thinks that everyone should be able to show how they feel deep inside of themselves and have fun during festivals or other recreational activities. It's almost too stuffy for her. She mentions a few times that she would like to bring elements from overseas to Japan just so that they can experience the fun of letting loose, such as haunted houses, horseback riding, and having big concerts at festivals. With other characters-- namely in relation to Dia --Mari wants nothing more than to see them perk up from a tough day's work with a trip to the beach or something other than practicing. It is admittedly difficult for her to get onboard with different cultural aspects compared to her own, but Mari does her best to have both worlds come together for not only herself, but the people around her. In the same vein, she finds Japanese culture to be very interesting! She has a fixation on the classical fashion of kimonos for ceremonial purposes and arts like calligraphy and ikebana, which she finds enriching and somewhat of a novelty.
Her sense of humor is another large part of herself. She enjoys teasing the other girls, playing practical jokes on them such as embellishing stories and following up with It was a joke! afterward no matter what their reactions may be afterward. She can be, however, extremely inappropriate toward others with little regard for how they may feel at the end of it. One of Mari's 'signature' moves is greeting other girls by way of grabbing their breasts and making lewd comments about them beyond her victim's comfort level. She sees no problem with this. Part of her does see it as an act that makes people uncomfortable, but the other part of her finds it to be just another one of those things that spices up the day and is a COMPLIMENT over a form of harassment. When her decisions are good, they are amazing. When they aren't, they run the risk of being a disaster that she will usually say 'oopsie' to and take in stride. This level of being obtuse reads as a form of immaturity on her part that she really doesn't seem to see in herself. Her childishness does not get in the way of what she is doing, but it definitely can impede on her relationships with others for a little while at a time.
That isn't to say that she does not have her judgmental lapses on larger scales. Mari is so concerned with making sure that other people are happy that she often forgets to take care of her own needs first. In the anime, Dia, Kanan, and herself attempted to make their own School Idol trio. When they were invited to Tokyo to perform in a competition, Mari injured her leg during practice. She refused to acknowledge it when her friends were concerned, assuring them that she could perform without any issues. This ultimately led to Kanan refusing to perform and Mari getting frustrated because they were then disqualified. For a couple of years, this beef with Kanan festered as Mari left without a word to study abroad with her father. Upon her return, she went to Kanan to ask for help with Chika's new School Idol group and was offended when she was refused. The entire plot of Mijuku Dreamer revolves around Mari venting her frustrations onto Kanan without acknowledging her pitfalls. By the end of the episode, she realizes that she was in the wrong and does not want to sacrifice her friendship over something that happened and could have been prevented years ago. It breaks her heart and is the one time in the series where she flat-out loses her cool and begins to cry and beg for forgiveness. It is extremely difficult for her to come to terms with her own wrongdoing but when she does, Mari uses the same enthusiasm to try mending bridges... Even if it takes a lot of work.
Her personal connection to the other girls is that of an older sister type. She is receptive to their feelings and frustrations when it comes to confidence or lack thereof. Gently pushing them, she helps them strive for the better. When You is upset over Chika becoming so attached to Riko, Mari sits with her and begins to ask and analyze her feelings of jealousy and the possibility of losing her childhood friend to The New Girl. Mari lovingly tells her that there is nothing to fear and if Chika is part of the team, she will come around and cement all of them together. She loves all eight of the other girls with her entire heart and will tell them at a moment's notice. All she wants in life is for others around her to love and be happy and she will not rest until that comes to actualization. She insists that every person on Earth was boring with a Shiny Heart and that is what makes them beautiful.
On a side note, she does have her moments of getting antsy or lazy behind the backs of the other girls. She often gets bored in school and is prone to napping or daydreaming instead of studying. Her favorite kind of music is not actually pop music, but rather Industrial Metal and other hard rock music because-- as with everything else she does and likes --it is full of the same energy that she is. Instead of flashy lights, she would like to rally for explosions. She strongly believes that she can use all of her methods to make Aqours take the world by storm. Her unorthodox way of thinking and going about side activities is a testament to how dedicated she is to making everything her own flavor.
Even if that involves taking every jar from the spice cupboard and throwing it into the pot just to see what happens.
At the end of the day, Mari doesn't have a mean bone in her body and all she wants to see is a sea of smiling faces in the audience and she will do her absolute best to make that a reality.
