Paldea Badges

While visiting the beautiful region of Paldea, your characters will be able to challenge the local gyms and earn badges. A few things should be noted however! Any badges you earn in the Paldea region will not count towards allowing you to challenge the Elite Four in Kanto. Additionally, even if you obtain all eight Paldean badges, it will not be possible to challenge the Paldean Elite Four.

Beyond that, however, the badges in Paldea work much the same as back home! Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

Badge/Gym Leader: Ice [Grusha]
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team:
- Ice Age [Alolan Sandslash - lvl 100 - Chesto Berry]
- Killer Queen [Azumarill - lvl 100 - Mystic Water]
- Rodeo [Alolan Marowak - lvl 100 - Zoom Lens]
- Red Eye [Corviknight - lvl 100 - Leftovers]
- Ballroom Blitz [Pancham - lvl 100 - Sitrus Berry]
- Glimmin [Glimmora - lvl 100 - Chesto Berry]

Battle Details:

Theoretically this shouldn't be the toughest fight for Min besides the trek to get there. He has a number of ice and steel types on his team, so he has a pretty good understanding of ice type strengths and weaknesses, as well as Pokémon who will be helpful. If this is where he has his first loss he might just. Walk out into the snow and let the elements take him.

Alolan Sandslash vs. Alolan Ninetales

Ice Age has a good amount of resistances here, and has some steel type attacks that should help her out too. She also can't be hit by Sheer Cold, which is a nice bit of reassurance to have even with that very low accuracy. In most cases Min-Gi would start out using either Hail or Snowscape, but given Ninetales also has both Snow Cloak and Aurora Veil it's not going to be super helpful this time. Instead she will be using Swords Dance followed by Iron Head to try and make quick work of Ninetales rather than give it a free opportunity to significantly boost its defences.

Defeating Ninetales shouldn't be too much of a problem, but that doesn't mean it won't be able to cause some problems for them. If Iron Head is disabled or loses PP to Spite then she will switch to Metal Claw. He's also trying to stay away from moves they have in common in case Imprison is used. Luckily it's only really Mist he might have considered anyway since he's effectively imprisoning himself there.

Confusion or sleep could be a bit of an issue. He's taken a chance equipping Ice Age with a Chesto Berry. Confuse Ray has higher accuracy than Hypnosis, but Hex could be a very damaging move if Ice Age is put to sleep.

If Ice Age's health starts getting too low then Min-Gi will send out Red Eye instead. She will be using Steel Wing if its health is still fairly high, but Drill Peck if it doesn't seem like it will take much more to knock it out.

Azumarill vs. Beartic

Again, Killer Queen has a nice amount of resistance here. The problem is Beartic has access to Thrash (very powerful even if it is at the cost of becoming confused) and Sheer Cold (which is low accuracy, but immediate game over for her if it does hit).

Despite this, Min-Gi thinks they have a pretty good shot against it. First he will have her use Defense Curl to give her some padding against its attacks. After that it will depend on if it used Snowscape or not. If Beartic didn't use that then she will use Iron Tail.

Should Snowscape comes into play at any point she will use Rain Dance to get rid of it, followed by Aqua Tail. Since she's holding Mystic Water this will give an extra boost in addition to the rain and her Huge Power ability.

If it decides to use Rest then it will depend on how low her attack is. In the event that Beartic has got in quite a few hits on her attack power then she will get her own back by using Charm a couple of times, though Min will have pass by that step if he thinks she'll have a chance at knocking it out. In that case she will be using Iron Tail or Aqua Tail depending on if it's raining or not.

His other main concern is whether Beartic uses Endure to survive an extra turn and use Flail. Depending on her health, that could create a problem. Since they have roughly equal speed she will also be using Bubble Beam to drop its speed, ideally at some point after she's managed to use Rain Dance.

Once again, if Killer Queen faints his backup will be Red Eye. She should be faster, so hopefully she can jump straight to Steel Wing. However, if it uses Rest (or got a lucky early hit in with Sheer Cold) then she will use Screech to lower its defence first.

Alolan Marowak vs. Frosmoth

Frosmoth is a great Pokémon! He has a Frosmoth, and he loves her dearly. Unfortunately he doesn't anticipate this being too much of a challenge. As long as he gets it over with quickly anyway. Frosmoth can use Snowscape, and has both Aurora Veil and Blizzard. Even with a resistance to ice a Blizzard attack that ignores accuracy could hit him hard. If it's female, then Attract could cause him some problems too. So although he's sure Rodeo's capable of making this a quick fight, there are a lot of scenarios where things could go wrong.

Frosmoth also has moves that could lower Rodeo's attack, something Min does not want to wait around to happen. As such, he'll be jumping straight to Flare Blitz. His Rock Head ability means he won't take recoil damage, and because Frosmoth has a double weakness to fire it will hit extra hard. If things look bad for him then Min will either have him use Endeavor to even things out, or use Will-O-Wisp to inflict burn. It's low accuracy, but his Zoom Lens and slower speed will help a little there.

If Attract has caused more problems than he thinks (or if Rodeo is knocked out) then Ice Age is coming back out. Regardless of if this is earlier in the fight and she's being swapped in or if this is because Rodeo fainted she will use Aurora Veil if the weather conditions allow her to do so, then Defense Curl. After that she will use Rollout.

Corviknight vs Cetitan

As she is potentially playing the role of backup earlier on, Red Eye is equipped with Leftovers to help keep her health up. Although she does resist normal and flying type moves, she unfortunately has no resistance to ice moves. Cetitan also has a lot of health that will take time to wear down even with super effective moves at her disposal.

Because she needs time, Red will be using Iron Defense to start out to raise her own defence followed by Hone Claws to raise her attack and accuracy. If they're lucky then Cetitan might use Growl only to find her Mirror Armour bounces it back, but given Cetitan's overall lack of status moves it's not a major consideration for them. They're mostly focused on themselves when it comes to status changes, though they're avoiding anything that might bring up her speed and give Avalanche double strength. Even with resistance they don't want to take chances they don't have to. If at any point Cetitan uses Rest then Red will use Screech and Hone Claws for the turns it is asleep.

When it comes to wearing down Cetitan's health, Red will primarily be using Steel Wing now she has higher accuracy for it.

In the event that Cetitan can hold out long enough to take down Red Eye, Min's primary choice will be Ice Age with Iron Head. However, should she have fainted earlier or her health is too low he has a second choice in Killer Queen and Superpower. Especially if Red Eye was able to lower Cetitan's defence earlier, neither of these should struggle too much coming in.

Pancham vs. Weavile

Min has tried to save some Pokémon with full health for the latter part of this battle. As such, while Grusha may have anticipated a fighting type, Ballroom Blitz is still a fresh face as well as a Pokémon with a very strong type advantage. He is also equipped with a Sitrus Berry in case he needs a health boost later on.

If he can, Blitz will be using Taunt first since Weavile has some pretty frustrating status moves. Regardless of if this works or not their next move will be Vital Throw. He hopes not to need to take too many turns this match with Weavile's ability halving how much he can use each move. It's not as powerful as Hammer Arm would be, but it's higher accuracy, still should cause a lot of damage, and they were never going to outspeed Weavile anyway.

This is a battle for Blitz to prove he can be disciplined, and given he's still unevolved Min isn't relying overly on him. If his fighting type gets him a win here, great. If not he has got other options.

Who's playing back up here depends a lot on who has better health. If it's Red Eye, she'll be using Steel Wing. If it's Ice Age she'll be taking advantage of her slower speed to make the most of Gyro Ball. Neither of them will be using status moves in case Weavile tries to take advantage of them with Snatch.

Glimmora vs. Altaria

First Up, Glimmin will be creating a Sand Storm to chip away at Altaria's health and increase his special defense. After that it's going to depend very much on what Grusha has Altaria do once it's terastallized. If Mist has been used he'll use Mortal Spin to inflict poison. He hopes this will make Altaria use up a turn using Refresh, but he's fine if Grusha decides to let Altaria stay poisoned instead. If Safeguard was used then Min will have Glimmin use Acid Spray instead to lower its special defence.

It's at this point that Min-Gi will opt to have Glimmin terastallize into a pure rock type. It will lose him his resistance against fairy type attacks, but give his rock type moves extra power. From there the plan is to use Power Gem to defeat it.

To prevent Glimmin from being put to sleep he's been equipped with a Chesto Berry. Although Altaria does have Perish Song he isn't too worried about this as long as he still has other Pokémon who still have some of their health left.

If Altaria does manage to make Glimmin faint, Min will send out Rodeo. First he will use Retaliate. After that he will use Flare Blitz. It would be nice to drop its defence, but given Altaria has Cotton Guard he knows they don't have anything that would drop it faster than it could bring it back up.

Killer Queen is his last resort here. She will try to make it fall asleep with Sing before switching to Defense Curl and Rollout.
