school assignments
Unlike the region of Kanto, where young kids are just given an electric rat, a handful of pokeballs and get sent out into the wilderness, Paldea takes a different approach to learning. A revolutionary new idea called... school.
And while you are here, you are also given the opportunity to participate in some school assignments and enjoy learning in a slightly more structured manner. Or you can just be in it for the rewards.

On this page, you can find all the current open School Assignments which your character can accept. There will also be a small FAQ to answer a few questions. Oh, and new assignments will become available as time progresses so make sure to check back from time to time.
Oh no, school.
Oh yes, school! Paldea finds education to be very important and wants your characters to experience it while they are here. No matter how young or old your characters are, we can always learn more.
Are these Assignments mandatory?
You are not an actual student of the Academy, so no, the assignments are not mandatory. The Academy really would like you to participate, but if you'd rather not, there is no way they can make you do the work.
Except maybe by offering you some cool rewards.
How can I prove I've completed an assignment/obtain my reward?
This will differ for each assignment. For many of them, claiming your reward is just hand waved. So you can say whether your character has completed that assignment or not. For some more intense assignments, or ones that come with really good rewards, there might be a requirement to meet (such as linking us to a thread or submitting a small write-up).
Each assignment will say exactly what needs to be done to claim the reward, so make sure to read through them carefully!
Where can I redeem my Assignments?
We have a thread over here where you can post to redeem a certain assignment. Just let us know what assignment your character was working on and meet the requirement and we'll let you know if it has been accepted.
Can characters work together on Assignments?
In some cases, characters will have to do some group work to complete an assignment. This will be noted in the assignment itself! For all other assignments -- they are individual assignments, so your character has to meet all the requirements on their own, however, there is nothing stopping you from teaming up with another character with the same assignment and working on it together.
Can each assignment only be done once?
Some assignments can be done multiple times by the same character. In this case, the assignment will note they are repeatable. There will also be some assignments that can only be done once. For example, visiting all the cities in Paldea is a one time deal! You cannot show up every day and say you've gone to each city.
Additionally, assignments can be done by multiple characters. Just because Character A has visited every Paldean City, doesn't mean Character B can't do the same assignment. For the most part, these assignments are not first come, first serve! There will be a few that can only be done once, but this will be noted on the assignment in question (and none of those are available just yet)
I have a question about my assignment or requirement.
Please comment here and we will clarify things ASAP.

Assignment: Pic Stop (Photography Club)
Requirement: Handwaved
Special notes: Intrigued by the rumors and hearing about the possible presence of the Varoom line in the mines from the Photography Club, Harry decides to head to East Area Three and begins taking photos of how really harmless they are. He notices from his observations and photos that the Varoom and Revaroom are playfully racing each other and having friendly battles with each other. Much to his surprise during his mine trip, they really want to befriend him and his team and some of them do wish that he could take one of them as a part of his team so badly.
He decides to take on the challenge by letting one excited Varoom to fight his Hisuian Arcanine Godric and Hippowdon Helga. They are able to battle her and she proves to be a good battler too which allows him to catch her, making her a part of his team and as a proof that the Varoom line doesn’t mean to cause any trouble in the mines. They just want to have a place to call home and play in.

Science Club
Assignment: Book It!
Requirement:
This heist is very much a team effort. At Carly's suggestion they're going to be scouting it out in advance, trying to get a feel for the layout, guard times, closing times, exits, and weak points under the guise of being regular library goers. From there Carly will be taking more of a backseat, giving the less senior Rockets the chance to prove their worth.
The theft itself will largely be carried out by Duo and Kurama. Kurama is pretty handy when it comes to technology. He can deal with any security cameras, high-tech locks, or other electronic security measures they may need to take care of. Duo is better with more traditional or purely mechanical locks, so he'll be tackling those. They will have the assistance of Min-Gi's Venomoth, as well as Duo's Abra and will be taking advantage of their Teleports to move the books out of the library once they can access them. They will be equipped with satchels to carry them, but can blip in and out as needed if they get too full, and can use Venomoth's status moves to take care of any surprise Pokémon or people they come across even with the precautions they've taken. Doppio is on standby in an agreed location to relieve them of their prizes.
As someone who's been here longer (and who is decidedly less experienced in the art of thievery), Min-Gi is the brawn of this operation. Or will be if he needs to be. As far as Pokémon are concerned, it's largely his they'll be using. Ideally they'll be doing this at a time where there are no human librarians. However, if this is not possible, or if there are human security guards after hours, then Min's Chatot will use his imitation skills to try and lure them to a quiet corner where he can Sing them to sleep. His Ditto (using the shape of his Venomoth) will be patrolling and trying to take care of any Pokémon using status effects to incapacitate them until they're done. If it does come down to battle, he should hopefully have a pretty decent idea of what Pokémon he'll be facing and between them the only types no one on his Rocket team can resist are fire, electric, and dark. Empoleon is always his first choice for battle unless it is something he's weak to.
Between Venomoth, Dittomoth, and Abra they all have a getaway buddy with Teleport for either when they're done, or in event of emergency.
Special notes: Kurama is technically from 90s Earth, but because of anime rules there's a weird mishmash of tech you'd expect, and Spirit World (magical) tech that seems a lot closer to smartphones, etc... that you'd find today. Since Kurama has been shown to be able to hack Spirit World technology we are hoping that is a skill it's okay to transfer over to technology in Paldea.

Assignment: Make It Rain
Requirement: Riz came to North Area One with Adaine to find one of these illustrious roaming ghosts. And, because Riz Gukgak is a nerd of the highest order, he first hit up the Academy library to read up a little on these creatures. And one things he learned is that they like to run away. A lot.
Now, hey, Riz is a Rogue with a bonus action Disengage himself, so he can't fault them. But he also doesn't just want to be jogging endlessly all across Area One chasing one.
So instead, for this encounter, Riz turned to some of this other rogue tricks. First he scouted around the area for an appropriate place where trees or rocks funnel everything down one narrow path. And if no appropriate place can be found, he'll use his Klawf to make one. He then used his spider pokemon Spinarak and Galvantula to cover the path with sticky webbing, creating a barrier to slow down, if not fully stop a fleeing Gimmighoul.
With his trap set, Riz'll use his Murkrow to flush out a Gimmighoul. As Murkrow is a Dark Type, Gimmighoul should be pretty afraid of it. And seeing as Murkrow is just the tiniest bit quicker than Gimmighoul, he should also be capable of keeping up with it as he lands attacks near (not on!) the Gimmighoul to guide it down the appropriate path to trap.
With Gimmighoul slow/caught in the trap, Riz'll bring out his Dreepy Spin Cycle to actually battle it. Now, Spin Cycle is still just a little baby, so Riz doesn't know if he is actually strong enough to fully take down Gimmighoul, but he wants to give him some battle experience, nonetheless.
First, he'll have Dreepy use Infestation for the little bit of damage on each turn, then Astonish to deal damage. Should it look like Gimmighoul is too strong for him, he'll switch out Spin Cycle after a taste of violence and instead send out his Murkrow to quickly take the Ghimmighoul down with a few level 100 dark attacks. The coins he'll give to Adaine. He's just here for the good grade.

Assignment: Defeat the Titan in North Area One!
Requirement: What with being in the North Area One for the ruins already, Emporio decided to take his time alone to look into the Houndstone while his friends were off to reunite with a new arrival. Houndstone are ghosts, so he figured, time to make use of that Ghost Affinity. The good news is he found what was setting them off.
...The bad news is he found what was setting them off, and it's really no surprise that as the teen starts scrambling to get his bearings in the face of a GIANT SLOWBRO, trained ghost pokemon nearby start panicking as well.
Jotaro and Jolyne enter the scene from the cliffs between North Area One and Tag Tree Thicket, and are quickly stuck hiding with Emporio amid the rocks while this Titan of a beast takes aim. They have very few options, and not a lot of time to act on them. Amid all the confusion, Emporio's Roaring Moon (slide 24), Metzli, uses Sunny Day to try and get a power boost via Protosynthesis...but that might not be the best idea since that thing can see them clear as day!!!
Fortunately, Jotaro's Fortress Sandygast apparently decided now was the best time to evolve into Pallosand, and the sandcastle does what it does best. ...Which is to say it starts chucking sand. Lots of it. Sand Attack is being absolutely spammed here.
Having arrived on the back of Ermes the Mudsdale, Jolyne takes a hint and has the massive steed use Sandstorm. Sucks for Metzli, but there's a Ground and a Ground/Ghost here, and the sand being whipped about only further helps to keep them from being hit.
Because that, as Jotaro puts it, is their...strategy. Don't get hit. No healing moves? Don't get hit. No cures for poison? Don't get hit. It's fine. They'll be fine.
Emporio feels like he can see where Jolyne gets it, and shakily orders Metzli to start revving themselves up with Dragon Dance. Jolyne, oblivious to this judgement, has Ermes do similar by using Iron Defense for her own defenses, and Bulldoze to cut down on that speed stat a little more.
Meanwhile Fortress has tried lulling the pokemon to sleep using Hypnosis, apparently intent on trying to eat its energy. It's not going fantastic, but being made of dirt makes for great camoflage, so between Giga Drain, Sand Tomb, and the fact that he's equipped with the ability Water Compaction, the little guy isn't doing too badly.
Even better though is that once the gang is all powered up, they strike through the sand like ghosts in the desert, if the desert was a frigid coastal plain. Metzli starts hitting hard with Throat Chop, as this isn't a Gym Battle and Emporio is prioritizing slaughter over the enemy having a challenge. Ermes meanwhile sends out plenty of High Horsepower kicks, since trying to use Earthquake here is a recipe for disaster. They pick, they peck, and finally when the storm is starting to fade and the Slowbro seems..? To take its last hit?
....
....It's unclear. Just what will they even see when the sandstorm clears? An angry slowbro with a
GUNready arm? ....Or a disappeared slowbro....(Or even something else...)
Special notes: Hysterically, Galarian Slowking is a pokemon Emporio wants to try catching, so he might voice upset over the fact that they came so close to maybe finding one- feel free to play with the consequences of voicing such thoughts-
As an aside, this type of fight is pretty par the course in JJBA. BE HONORED, TITAN SLOWBRO
