GETTING STARTED

"...Welcome to the wonderful world of Pokémon!"
Howdy! If you're curious about the world of Victory Road and how the game works, then you're in the right place!
WHAT IS VICTORY ROAD?
First off: Victory Road is a panfandom community-based roleplay taking place in the world of Pokémon--specifically the Johto and Kanto regions. You don't have to be a PokeManiac to join the game-- it's perfectly acceptable to learn the ropes of Pokémon training right alongside your character! The game is full of folks both IC and OOC who will be happy to help people new to the world of Pokémon.
Let's start with the necessary reading.Rules Frequently Asked Questions
These two are the most important pages for beginners, and a nice refresher for those who haven't been in the game for a while. Please read them thoroughly!
Victory Road is a slow paced game. The Activity Check runs through the first to the eighth of each month.
WHAT IS THE WORLD OF VICTORY ROAD LIKE?
How does my character arrive?
What about dealing and interacting with pokémon?Trainers and Breeders are free to explore from the beginning, starting at New Bark Town (with an option to ferry to Pallet Town if one wishes to start in the Kanto region.) If you've chosen this path...
You’ve awoken in a bed in what appears to be the bedroom of a pre-teen, judging by the decor and the size of the bed. Not that you’ll have much time to look around or groggily wonder where you are before a sweet-looking woman pokes her head in the room to tell you to hurry up sleepy-head, it’s time to head out on your journey!
Regardless of any protests or questions, Mom will hand you your bag and quickly usher you out the door with the efficiency of someone who’s had a whole lot of practice at this. And once you’re out, there’s no getting back in no matter how hard you may try. You look around, trying to get your bearings, and spot a path leading out of the town.
Route 29? You debate on whether or not to interact with those around you, or to just leave and figure things out on your own--
And what is that music?
Your starter Pokémon might be standing next to you, or sitting in the pokéball wondering when you'll say hi. Either way, it's yours, and it's not leaving you alone. Have fun figuring that one out.Team Rocket members start at Goldenrod City and are required to undergo two weeks of grunt boot camp before being released to explore. If you've chosen this path...
You wake up in a mostly-empty dormitory-style room. There's a bed in the back, with a small desk next to it. Atop the desk is a PokeGear, two shiny Pokeballs, and a note on stationary printed with a big, red...
Welcome to Team Rocket.
You're probably confused. Well, get over it. You're perfectly safe and we haven't kidnapped you (on purpose), so don't even think about whining. Keep your nose clean and listen to your admins, and you won't have anything to worry about here.
Before leaving your room, READ AND FOLLOW THESE STEPS (OR ELSE!):1. There's a uniform in the bag. Put it on.The cafeteria is open until 11.
2. The balls contain your new team-mates. You'll be spending a lot of time with them, so get acquainted now! We don't pay people to play patty-cake with their Pokemon during training hours!!
3. Speaking of training, it starts immediately! After exiting your room, identify yourself as a new Grunt and you'll be taken to an Admin to start learning the ropes.
4. We don't know why you're complaining about the music and we can't turn it off. Stop asking about it.
5. Lastly, have fun and be yourself.
Enjoy being on the winning team!
-Team Rocket AdminsPokemon adventurers of all types have been given a starter pokémon and a backpack of helpful items necessary for their trip. Inside the backpack includes a PokéGear; we even wrote a guide with the functions!
We've got a list of which Pokémon are encountered around the Johto and Kanto regions. When it comes to random battles, Victory Road generally goes by the spirit of the anime - battles don't have to strictly follow the rules of the video games, can be written in whichever way is fun for all players involved, or can be outright handwaved. But if you'd like to get a bit more mechanical with it, we've got a Trainer Guide as well! What about travel?
For physical locations, check out the Maps for the Johto and Kanto regions. This also explains the distances between cities and how long travel time would be. Times change depending on the speed of the character or pokémon, bicycles, or even the weather (located on the calendar)!Got technical questions about the world of Pokemon?
