Character Name: Sephiroth Series: Final Fantasy VII Timeline: End of Advent Children Canon Resource Links:Sephiroth wiki, FFVII stuff
Personality: Before Sephiroth’s mind fractured into insanity he was actually a relatively caring individual though he did not always outwardly show it. He held a bit of a reputation for being stoic and cold, but in reality he just did not fit in very well with other people. Sephiroth always felt as though he were different. That he stood off to the side from most. He did have friends, but those were few. The ones who managed to get close to him he held in high regard even to the point of outright refusing to go on a mission to hunt them down.
For the most part he respects intelligence or otherwise anyone who can match him in some way. While he himself can be arrogant that is mostly due to his overbearing sense of confidence. He’s a calm, collected individual who rarely falls to frustration and otherwise seemingly cannot be annoyed. This is not completely true, but he’s the type of person who manages to keep themselves under control and does not show much to the outside world. Which is what originally earned him his reputation. What others don’t see is that he actually has a very dry sense of humor, can smile, and does occasionally enjoy the company of others.
Now after he learns the truth surrounding his birth, the experiments involved in his creation, everything changes. Gone is the calm and caring individual only to be replaced with one filled with hate and vengeance. He despises humanity after this point wishing to destroy them all. The arrogance and sense of superiority people thought he held in the past comes to full fruition as he tosses aside any connection he felt to humans -- something he does not really consider himself any longer. Scientists used DNA from an alien creature they called Jenova in his creation, the only name he was ever given when growing up. The person he believes is his mother (when in fact he does have a human mother he does not know about). She is the only one she considers of any worth despite being an ancient long-dead corpse by this point.
When he first learned of the experiments he was actually horrified at the idea that he might not be human, but the more he read about it, the more he learned -- he leaned into the idea and fully accepted it as something he should be. With that he developed a god complex and felt that he was above everyone else. He’s vastly superior to everyone else and should rule high above them all. Like Jenova he feels he’s some sort of god-like being destined to rule the planet. No one can stand against him. No one can defeat him. Therefore he should be able to reshape things as he wishes.
One person does manage to best him though (Cloud), he manages to do so three different times, and as a result Sephiroth develops a complete and utter obsession with the man. He wants nothing more to break, torment, and otherwise terrorize him -- though at the same time he also makes Cloud the very center of his existence to a point where he actually relies on the other’s memories to keep himself going. This gives him something of tunnel vision later where he cares very little for those around him except for Cloud to a point where nothing else seems to matter. Humanity started out as the object of his hate and then it evolved into orbiting around one singular person.
Now despite all of this, he does still retain his calm and collected demeanor. He still cannot be easily (outwardly) angered, frustrated or otherwise annoyed. The air of arrogance and superiority to others never seems to leave though.

Character Name: IV aka. Thomas Arclight Series: Yu-Gi-OH! Zexal Timeline: episode 58: "Swimming With Sharks", after he collapsed next to the bed of his little brother Canon Resource Links:Wiki link here. Disclaimer that the wiki entry tends to concentrate on the English Dub version of the series, which shows in the use of some changed names and the harmless-talking of some events in the series that happened in the English version of it.
Personality:
(Disclaimer that this focuses mainly on the way things are during season one, since that's the canon point I'm taking him from.)
Depending on who you ask, people will describe IV's personality wildly different. To his fans, IV is the Asia Champion; a very popular Pro Duelist who is well-known and loved for being basically the embodiment of a modern noble knight, to the point where he is nicknamed “the Gentleman Duelist.” As such he is famous for being humble, patient, empathic and approachable - a person with a sweet smile who is as genteel outside the playing field as he is a merciless opponent when he does fight. Truly a man to whom 'fanservice' is more than just a word, and one who would see even those who did him wrong rather be given the chance to realize their mistakes and grow from them than to see them punished.
To his older brother, IV is the black sheep of the family, a good for nothing who lost any trace of good he had in him a long time ago. The IV Christopher knows is a hotheaded, childish bully who is prone to grudges and who takes out his frustrations on those most vulnerable to him: his own fans. It's an open secret in the Arclight family that IV has a nasty habit of inviting some random 'lucky' fans to one-on-one meetings with special "fanservice" provided by yours truly, which will inevitably devolve into IV crushing them both mentally and physically as violently as possible. IV is unsavory, but he is also good at what he does and has every reason to be loyal to his family, which makes him in turn useful to keep around, even when they clash at every turn.
To his enemies, IV is an egoistical narcissist, merciless, ruthless and shameless all alike, a vile con-man and coward if there ever was one. IV is a snake in the grass who adds insult to injury by having a bite that's as nasty as his lies when one actually manages to corner him.
On the other hand, IV's younger brother Michael will tell a vastly different story. To Michael, IV is still his big brother Thomas: the rowdy middle sibling who'd steal his cards when he felt like he wasn't being given enough attention, but who'd also return them the moment Michael'd get truly upset. IV is the brother that always looked out for and stuck with him, even if it meant getting hurt while picking a fight with all the bullies in the orphanage at once, just to get Michael’s toy back. Michael sees both the good and the bad in IV. He knows about IV's violence toward his fans, his penchant for coming off as arrogant and egoistical as possible - all those are traits that IV never tried to hide from him. But Michael also knows how much it takes for IV to constantly keep up the act. He knows that IV has loving and vulnerable sides, that he’s doing everything only for them, and that his brother is stretching himself far further out to be what his family needs him to be than what IV can actually bear. It wouldn't be fair to judge a man who's coming apart by his seams when he’s doing it all for you, would it?
To his father, IV is merely a handy tool. His son's good acting and dueling skills has made it easy to have both the monetary needs and influence to enact his revenge covered. With his violence and manipulating, IV is both Tron's attack dog and his bait, ready to be sacrificed to haul in the one bigger one. IV is something to be dismissed, laughed at and used and discarded, no matter how much his son growls at him, because in the end IV is still foolishly loyal and harbors an idealistic dream for seeing their family whole again.
And to IV? IV is basically the human equivalent of a dog turned bad by those who own him, and he knows it.
His bragging and boisterous self-importance is as much a personal trait as it's a defense mechanism to hide the fact that he's the let-down between the three siblings, and has been made over and over aware of that fact for a long time. In the same vein, his abuse of his fans is in a way both venting and a shoutout in response to just how much he has been driven into a desperate corner -- having to put on an act and deny himself constantly to be worth something in the eyes of the world on one side, act as the ruthless henchman without a conscience in a feeble attempt to restore his father back to his right mind and save their family on the other. All while the same father only laughs at him, his older brother retreats into acting like an emotionless robot and his baby brother putting on the pressure by keeping up the hopes for their lost messed-up nut job of a family finding a way to put themselves back together alright again. And IV is straight in the middle of it all.
He is observant enough to know that all this isn't going to come to a good end, and that the twisted monster that became of their father doesn't care for them at all. He knows that there's no real chance to have things ever turn back to how they once were. And yet he still can't turn his back on it. IV can't stop longing for the love of a father that might as well no longer exist, nor is he capable to turn his back on a chance to restore their family, no matter how abysmal it logically is. That's why he grudgingly does all the terrible things his father bids him to do.
Once everything is said and done, IV still retains a decent sense of morals. While he loves toeing the line, he refuses to go too far (except for against Shark), as evidenced when he accepted getting seriously hurt in order to safe Shark's sister. He might be a bad human who takes a stubborn sense of pride in being what he is, but in the end he’s still only human ...which becomes his undoing over and over again.
In Yu-Gi-Oh the theme and used dueling strategies of a character reflect their personality. In a family where he is surrounded with personal dueling themes like Heraldic Beasts, High-tech Sci-Fi Space Stations and Conquerors & Ancient Aliens IV's theme are broken, cursed dolls. This speaks a lot about what kind of person IV is and sees himself as, since he created that deck.

Character Name: Mandy Ramirez Series: Original Timeline: After Nevermore's second defeat.
Original Character Background: - Their world: The mundane elements of Amanda's world can be best compared to Earth circa 1995, or rather, Earth as portrayed in shonen anime circa 1995. It's an era of relative prosperity, energy is cheap but not terribly eco-friendly, home electronics are ubiquitous but still fairly chunky, fashion favors bright colors, synthetic fabrics, and fanny packs. This is, broadly, referred to as the human world - in contrast to the Pogemon world, a bucolic, pastoral alternate reality which for the past several years has been increasily easily accessed through magical portals generated by the pure shared love of pogs.
Yeah. Like the little cardboard discs? In this world, the game played with them is a little more complex than the one in our world, taking on elements of a collectable card game such as Magic: the Gathering, Yugioh!, or, well, the Pokemon TCG. In the basic, mundane version of the game, monster pogs are powered up by landing pogs with upgrades or special moves on top of them. However, for reasons that are not well understood and in fact are probably just "anime logic", frequent games of pogs can open portals to the Pogemon world, allowing living Pog Monsters to pass through and form empathic bonds with the players of the game. Once such partnerships are formed, the game takes on an entirely different aspect, with the Pogemon engaging in physical (albeit usually theatrical) combat and recieving genuine power increases from the support pogs. Pogemon can be broadly classified in to three types, Animal, Vegetable, and Mineral, with a rock-paper-scissors style cycle of advantage and weakness; strategy typically depends more on playing to the strengths and weaknesses of a particular monster than on gaming out abstract mechanics. With sufficiently close bonds between a Pogemon and their human "Slammer", the Pogemon can undergo pogmentation and take on a temporary second, stronger form during battle.
Although this game is relatively recent - the first physical Pogemon having arrived a little over three years ago - it has already become a massive cultural phenomenon, leading to the constrution of specialized infrastructure (and in the region most prone to portals, the construction of a new city, Pogtopia City), the elevation of the most successful Slammers to celebrity status, and at least two near-world-ending events that people are perhaps a little too sanguine about, because again, 90s monster-buddy anime logic, a thing I am sure we are all familiar with here at Victory Road. - Their history: Mandy spent most of her later childhood and early teens in foster care; there's no single great tragedy that lead to this, just a lot of bad luck and poor choices on the part of her caregivers leading to a kid who's lost track of whatever familial connections she might have had left, getting bounced around from household to household. If asked, she's not going to spin some great dramatic tale about it - it sucked, she got tough, she doesn't really want to talk about it. And she did get tough; by the time the fad for pogs turned into the Pogemon phenomenon, Mandy was just shy of 15 and prone to getting into fights at the drop of a hat. The well-meaning foster parent who gave her her first pogs probably hoped that she'd channel her confrontational impulses into the game.
It worked, although admittedly not in the way intended. Mandy quickly managed to summon and bond with a cartoon motercycle Pogemon named Hot Rodney, who on the one hand was probably the most stable influence in her life in years. On the other hand, once the pair had established themselves in the local battling scene, Hot Rodney was only too happy to encourage Mandy in her schemes to run away to Pogtopia City and pursue competetive battling full time.
She was good at it. They were good at it, a highly efficient team that quickly rose to the top of the newly established rankings. Admittedly, Mandy did not make many friends among the other Slammers; she didn't feel the need to. After winning the first official Pogemon Championship tournament, the pair enjoyed a brief time as legitimate celebrities, easily supporting themselves on sponsorships, prize money, and exhibition matches. They didn't allow themselves to slack off, though; a fancy televised match was all well and good, but both Mandy and Hot Rodney continued to thirst for chances to prove just how formidable they were.
The chance that presented itself was a little too real - a powerful Pogemon named Nevermore had his gaze set on conquering both the Pogemon and Human worlds, and the authorities of the Pogemon world put out a call for the uniquely powerful bonded human-pogemon teams to stop him. Naturally, Mandy rose to the challenge, alongside one of the few teams that had given her and Rodney a serious challenge in the tournament ring, an almost painfully cheerful girl named Katie and her equally adorable bird Pogemon partner, Rappy. The four ultimately defeated Nevermore, at great cost - during the final battle, Rappy managed to acheive an unprecidented second pogmentation, proof of the strength of his bond of friendship with Katie... and Hot Rodney was outright killed, making Mandy the first known Slammer to have that bond severed by the untimely death of her partner.
Without Katie and Rappy's help, Mandy managed to make it back to the Human world, but she was deeply traumatized by the loss and by the time she managed to pull herself together a little she found herself thoroughly fallen from grace. Katie resolutely vouched for her heroism in their battle against Nevermore and remained as much of a friend as Mandy would allow, but Mandy had never been well-liked by the competition in the first place, and many Slammers viewed her with suspicion for the loss of her partner. Mandy herself was stricken with survivor's guilt and also could not quite shake the feeling that Nevermore was not as thoroughly defeated as the others believed, and she spent much of the next year sinking into depression, living off her savings, and generally avoiding people.
When the next year's Pogemon Championship rolled around, Mandy spent most of the tournament hanging around the periphary, no longer able or desiring to enter, but not quite able to stay away, either. For their part, Katie and Rappy progressed smoothly through the tournament, until being defeated by a mysterious lone Pogemon - a prodigy fighter with whom Mandy had a few run ins of her own, as Aniel turned out to be an old friend of Hot Rodney, and was openly hostile to his friend's disgraced Slammer.
Then, at the end of the tournament, a rift between the two worlds briefly opened above the pitch, showing Nevermore's base of operations, fully rebuilt; in the days that followed, portals allowed scores of hostile Pogemon working for Nevermore into Pogtopia City. News soon broke that Nevermore had been sheltering with one of the leading figures of the rising Slammer's Union, shattering Mandy's already shakey faith in the organization. Mandy ignored official calls for unpartnered humans to stay out of the fight, going after the invading pogminions with a tire iron, and a year's worth of repressed anger. Still unpartnered, she nonetheless began carrying support pog items with her - sometimes to hand out to people who could put them to better use, but mostly because it made her feel better.
After stumbling through a portal into the Pogemon world, Mandy had a brief meeting with the Pogemon ruling council, with whom she still held some status after her part in foiling Nevermore's previous attempt to seize power. They granted her one of several pogs which, used in tandem, would indefinitely imprison a sufficiently weakened Nevermore - without a partner, she would not be able to use it, but the council trusted her to either bond with a new partner or hand off the pog to someone who would be able to put it to use.
Mandy expected to do the latter; however, a short time later, she encountered the Lone Pogemon, Aniel, struggling alone against a massive ambush of pogminions. She managed to get him to safety, and, after an overwrought first-aid session, they agreed to bond in order to take on Nevermore together and avenge Hot Rodney. They joined forces with a number of other slammer teams, including Katie and Rappy, to confront Nevermore; after a hard-fought battle, Mandy was the first to slam a prison pog down, and insisted on taking personal custody of the defeated villain to deliver him to the council personally.
Having defeated the Pogemon that killed her original partner, Mandy returned to the human world with a good bit more peace of mind and a new partner with whom she still shares an uneasy alliance. While their bond remains intact and if needed they're prepared to team up again, Mandy and Aniel have agreed to give each other some space. Mandy is turning her attention, and her remaining influence, to advocating for the inlusion of Pogemon in the Human world in contexts other than competetive battling. She's keeping a wary eye on the Slammer's Union, and finally kindling a genuine friendship with Katie.
Personality: Mandy has a deep drive to prove herself, a drive that she has for most of her life channeled into being extremely competetive and confrontational. Although the events of the past year have left her a little more introspective and grounded, she can still be very rough around the edges - quick to rise to a challenge, quick to anger, and with little concern for etiquette or respectability. She's used to depending on herself, her own wits, and (more recently) one other person with whom she is extremely in tune; she may instinctively rebuff aid when offered, preferring to succeed or fail on her own abilities than to depend on someone whose motives she does not know or trust.
On the other hand, she's very bright in a poorly educated way - she dropped out of a patchy highschool education to pursue professional monster battling full time - and a talented strategist, and if placed in a situation where she has to work with others, she prefers to be in control to some degree. If this is acknowledged and allowed, she's a brusque but effective leader, paying particular attention to members of the group that she sees as less confident or likely to be talked over. If she's expected to simply fall in line, she quickly becomes resentful and sullen or simply ignores directions in order to follow the course of action she feels is best; she has, as a rule, very little trust or patience for authority figures.
Mandy is used to being self-sufficient by now, but still well enough acquainted with poverty and dependency that she takes that self-sufficiency very seriously; failure is less a blow to her ego than it is a threat to her entire self-image and, often, to her way of life. The downward spiral of the year after Hot Rodney's death only reinforced this belief system; having finally taken steps to rebuild, she's determined not to let anything undermine her hard-won progress toward recovery - and while things have been on a definite upswing for her, grief and recovery are not linear, resulting in the occasional bad day that can easily develop into a full-blown crisis of confidence. She's more than a bit of a perfectionist; as long as she lives up to her own standards, she's brash and more than a little cocky, but if she falls short of her own demands on herself, she has a tendency to reject outside reassurance and obsess over her own failures.
Whether recruiting her to a cause, reassuring her in a crisis, or simply building a friendly rapport, peers are much better able to get through to Mandy than adults are - while she is slow to open up to anyone, and has a tendency to put up walls of dismissive or aggressive behavior, Mandy is not immune to the Power of Friendship. She's got a bit of a protective streak, as well - which may just as easily be directed at other teenagers that she percieves as vulnerable or inexperienced as at smaller children or animals. She's recently discovered a fondness for mentoring or coaching, as well; weaknesses or mistakes that would be ripe for exploitation if she were competing with someone are just kind of frustrating to watch when she's on the sidelines, and offering unsolicited advice is one of the ways she's most comfortable approaching people she does't know well.

Victory Road Sample: The last thing Mandy had been looking for was a new partner.
Of course, she wasn’t exactly pleased by the whole abruptly dumped into another universe with no warning thing, especially since it was, apparetnly, the dead of winter here, but that she could deal with. Had dealt with before. If nothing else, Mandy was adaptable; she had little doubt that if she kept her nose to the grindstone she’d either find her way home, or, failing that, figure out how to make her way in this world. It wasn’t like there was a lot waiting for her back home at this point. Vindication had not actually restored much more than her self-esteem.
But she didn’t need some cheerful little ring of keys following her around. When she’d found the pokeball in her gear, she’d let the Klefki loose and tried to shoo it off.
The cheerful little ring of keys had other ideas.
“I’m tellin’ you kid, I’m a bad risk,” she said, raising her voice just a little. She didn’t stop and look over her shoulder to see if the Klefki was still following; she didn’t really need to. The darn thing jingled, and from the sound of it it was having no difficulty keeping up with her.
“Klef!” the creature objected, because of course it couldn’t even manage intelligable speech. It bobbed around her head, curiously investigating her piercings.
After a long moment – longer than it needed to be, although Mandy would not have admitted it – she slowed to a stop in the middle of the path. She certainly hadn’t felt anything like a Pogemon bond, but it was clear that this pokemon had no intention of clearing off. If the little weirdo wasn’t going to leave her alone… she hooked a finger though the Klefki’s loop, dragging it around in front of her face. “I am not gonna go easy on you,” she warned, wagging a finger in its little face. “You’re gonna pull your weight. Such as it is. Understand?”
“Kiiii!”
“Yeah, let’s see if you still feel that way in a few days,” she sighed, digging in her pocket. “Here, you like keys, right.”

Character Name: Steven Armstrong Series: Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Timeline: Post-Death Canon Resource Links:Senator Armstrong’s Wiki Page
Personality: Armstrong is a man who spent the majority of his in-service to a government that he saw as noble and just, only to have this perception shattered and the rug pulled-out from under him when the Patriots’ decades of manipulation were brought to light. With the destruction of the Patriot AI systems the world was supposed to be free at last from the shackles of the Illuminati-like control that they’d languished under since the 80s but, rather than a new golden age, what resulted was a severe economic depression and criminal resurgence. Armstrong was at the forefront of governance in the United States at this time, and saw first-hand that social parasites came out of the woodwork to to take advantage of the chaos and prey upon those who were only trying to survive. Seeing those who’s duty it was to stand against this simply join in the feeding frenzy helped to confirm a fear that Armstrong had been entertaining for some time now; That America was rotten to the core.
Dedicating himself to the goal of uprooting the corrupt foundations of the United States, Armstrong began dipping his fingers into the burgeoning Private Military market and found people who had been hurt by the Patriots’ system but had the strength to come out the other side of their experiences stronger than they’d been before. Armstrong was a true believer in his cause, and could genuinely express the good that his endgame would bring about to those he brought in to his confidence. Though campy from the outside, his beliefs in restoring the government to something that actually served the people that elected it rather than one that preyed upon it was something many people agreed with. His success in politics was largely based upon this platform and, though he admits that he doesn’t write his own speeches, Armstrong has shown himself to be a natural orator on more than one occasion.
As a person Armstrong is passionate about nearly everything he invests himself into and has a strong sense of duty, but subscribes strongly to the “kill one - save a million” school of thought and so is willing to do a great many things that would be called terrible if he believes the ends will justify the means. This is well-summarized when he tells Raiden that “I’m making the mother of all omelettes here Jack. I can’t cry about every egg.” and sets the stage well for the many crimes he proceed to commit over the course of Metal Gear Rising. Though he’s content to let others do his wetwork Armstrong is a highly physical man, maintaining a physique comparable to a professional fighter in his 50s, and demonstrating impressive skill in hand-to-hand combat. His experience in the Navy seems to have made him comfortable in combat as well, and the technical skills he picked-up in his career have obviously been kept-sharp as he remains completely comfortable with both advanced weapon systems and near-future level electronics and appliances. Overall Armstrong is powerful person, both in terms of mind and body, and possesses a dangerous level of conviction towards his beliefs.

Samples RP Sample:Sample Thread Victory Road Sample: [Armstrong wakes up in an oddly familiar bed. Glancing over, he sees that he’s on the same kind of bunk he’d slept on in the Navy for years. The bunk brings back all manner of memories but also sparks a thousand questions, foremost of which is how he’s even waking up in the first place. His last memories were of having his nanite heart ripped from his chest, so there’s no way in hell someone had the tools to put him back together from something like that considering where it had all happened. Still, unless this was some perverse VR training, he was still alive and that merited further investigation.]
What in the goddamn?!
[Upon sitting up he immediately realizes that he’s still wearing the same clothes he’d worn during his battle against Jack. The torn remnants of his formal shirt still hung about his waist like the tattered martial arts Gi seen in so many anime, and his trousers and shoes were still there just as they’d been back in Shabhazabad. So he really had just been scooped-up after all that craziness… how bizarre.]
Well hey, guess that means I still have my smokes eh?
[Fully aware that he’s talking to himself, Armstrong stands up and checks his back pocket. Sure enough his lighter and stogies were still safely tucked away, though the cigars were more than a little crushed due to having been laid-on.]
Damn. Still… better than nothing.
[Spotting what looks like a pile of clothes sitting atop a dresser Armstrong makes his way over to the curious stack. There was a uniform that looked like someone’s idea of if a London Paperboy broke bad, though it at least seemed sized to fit him. Some boots, gloves, and a belt were there as well but all in a bright enough white that whoever picked them out was definitely looking to make a statement. Besides the pile, though, lay two spheres that immediately stop him in his tracks.]
No… way…
[Spotting a note, Armstrong snatches the thing up begins reading through it furiously.]
It can’t be.
[As soon as he fixes upon the words “Team Rocket” his eyes widen in disbelief.]

Character Name: amaterasu. Series: valkyrie connect. Timeline: post chapter 30-5: awakened soul Canon Resource Links: wikia link ( i know this is e x t r e m e l y scarce. ) information on her journal introductory story*
*please note that after new management took over the game, amaterasu's accent where she adds vowels to words like “boxu,” “incredibulu” and says things like “fiyah” instead of “fire” were replaced. I have examples of her using these on her journal. You can find them here and here.
Personality: the epitome of self-absorbed, amaterasu loves herself very, very much and considers herself one of the best kami in existence. her self image may well be as high as it is due to being the highly regarded "mighty rising sun" goddess in her original world. she is worshiped and prayed to for good fortune by the humans in yamato and it suits her. it makes her a proud individual that she can tend to the people she loves in a manner that keeps them, generally, happy.
her self pride borders on detrimental because at the drop of a pin she can ( and will ) challenge someone if she happens to feel threatened, insulted or as though someone is encroaching on her greatness in some manner or another. an excellent example of that pride causing her to toe the line is when she first meets the rune knife wielder, skuld and hel-- even before they actually get too far into their conversation, amaterasu refers to them as "cretins" and then later as "heathens" when they insult her appearance not being akin to what they pictured as the "greatest goddess of yamato who is ancient and majestic." this results in amaterasu showing off her fiery temper which is something that tends to land her into trouble.
her temper makes her somewhat bullheaded. the kami has her moments of rushing into things without rational decision because she simply feels she's the best of the best, and nothing could possibly stop her. the most use threat the kami has is that she will light up whomever is insulting or attacking her with the use of her "fiyah" ( fire ) elemental abilities which are stunningly overpowered due to her being literally the sun. in spite of her magic being a phenomenal strength to her character, it tends to get her into a lot of trouble because she uses it without thought. if her flames don't work, though, she's not above using her own fists which also pack a powerful punch because of supernatural strength due to being a kami.
on the flip side, due to being what is essentially a fire elemental being, she hates and is afraid of the water. when even the lightest sprinkle of rain begins to pour her entire persona begins to change into that of a meek, quiet girl who is absolutely desperate to get out of the water by any means possible. amaterasu grows weaker without the warmth of the sun's rays and with the sun blocked by clouds, and the world around her dampened with rain, she becomes quite depressed which is unlike her typical, loud sunny self.
amaterasu is loud-- very loud. just like her vibrant and opulent attire, the kami speaks with a boisterous tone which is, for the most part, friendly in nature. she does often turn to violence and threats but unbelievably, she's also one of the most friendly kami's that can be met within the whole of midgard where she prefers to reside. she has a soft spot for her family and her followers, both of which are pretty large parts of her life. tsukuyomi is her twin sister whom is the kami representing the moon to oppose herself being the sun. she also has a brother, susano-o, whom is the raging spirit of yamato who has a tendency to lose control kind of akin to his older sister albeit a bit more dangerously-- if one can imagine it.
unable to have the moon and the sun in the same place at the same time, tsukuyomi; in spite of being the older sister of the two, has given up her spot as the leading kami within yamato to allow amaterasu having reign. a big part of being separated from her sister leaves her rather sad and longing for her sibling but it causes her to be fully devoted to her people and is in large part why she resides on midgard with them rather than asgard with the other gods and goddesses. she's very determined to protect her people which is depicted in the main story of the game in how very willing she is to join the others in attempting to stop ragnarok from happening. she doesn't want anything to happen to her people or her family, having a soft spot for both. as an example, tsukuyomi and amaterasu; in their youths, used to taunt and tease their younger brother going as far as forcing him to be squished inside boxes ( for whatever reason ) but if push came to shove, she would protect him with the fierceness she shows in all things she does.
in spite of being a loud, excitable person, she has the ability to be very sweet which is mostly seen with her people within yamato. she has a soft spot for humans in particular although it can be argued that she adores all beings -- unless they are her ( legitimate ) enemies. she is fiery and willing to drop things to engage in combat or conversation with other beings; however, she is also very, very lazy and is prone to, like snorlax, drop onto the ground and let herself sleep wherever she may fall. as a kami, she doesn't really have a need for sleeping but this is something she must have taken up from the humans that she loves so much because she seems to particularly enjoy sleeping in place of being awake -- most notably, amaterasu is asleep on a road when the rune knife wielder first meets her! although the party attempts to warn her off of sleeping in the middle of roads, she continues to nap wherever the sun shines its rays the most to be engulfed in their warmth.

Before we make our final decision on your application, we would like some alternative samples! While your current personality section is good, the phonetically written accent makes the sample highly unreadable. We would like some new samples with the accent toned down, and would also suggest that you tone down the accent when roleplaying in the game.

Character Name: Chazz Princeton Series: Yu-Gi-Oh GX Timeline: After he wins the Genex Tournament Canon Resource Links: Yugioh Wiki
Personality:
Chazz is someone who is used to having-it-all; he comes from a wealthy family, he excels in his chosen academic pursuit, and he has developed an ego large enough to match his good fortune- therefore he is oftentimes arrogant, conceited and obnoxious towards those that don't measure up to his standards. He has a lot of pride in himself and his accomplishments, and expects others to appreciate his greatness... which many admirers do for a while, feeding into that delusion of superiority. It isn't until he is enrolled in Duel Academy, the prestigious school that teaches students how to hone their skills at a children's cardgame Duel Monsters that he finally runs into some obstacles and pitfalls that knock him perilously off his high horse. That isn't to say that he ever fully loses his attitude but he does improve.
One of the moments in his history that greatly effected him was when he ended up on a losing streak and was defeated by none other than Jaden Yuki, aka. the Slifer Slacker, and Bastion Misawa. The experience shakes not only his confidence in his dueling but also in himself. It's such a crushing blow that he voluntarily leaves Duel Academy island, determined not to return until he's worthy of being there (which he later does). These losses end up fueling his drive for self-improvement once he gets over the initial shock of it. He applies himself at another school, rising up through the ranks until he beats everyone at that establishment. This segment exhibits both that he is capable of adapting, his dedication to his goals, and that he has his own weaknesses. He faces issues with insecurity, and what sort of image he wants to project throughout much of the series. He wants to appear strong and unstoppable, but there's only so much he can handle, and when things go terribly wrong then he is shown to have a vulnerable side.
It's important to remember that Chazz is still very much a teenager, and he's still got a lot to learn about well.. everything. He is embarrassed easily, immature, and a novice when it comes to matters of the heart. Canonly, he develops a crush on fellow classmate, Alexis Rhodes, and he will do almost any foolish thing just to get her to look at him. In a way it's charming but it can lead him to trying some really irresponsible things to try and get her to agree to go out with him. In the Sacred Beast arc, a few of the teachers and students are each given these keys to protect from this nefarious band of thugs known as the Shadow Riders. In an act of desperation, Chazz swipes the remaining keys for himself in order to challenge Alexis to a duel where the stakes are if he wins she'll go out with him. Considering the keys and their importance to keep safe he shows a blatant disregard for everyone else's safety for this fairly trivial matter. He doesn't always see the bigger picture, or think before he acts especially when he's passionate about something or someone.
He has a tenuous relationship with his brothers, who have always stressed their desire to dominant the financial, political, and dueling sides of the world- which in this canon dueling with cards plays a greater role than you might think. The plan was for Chazz to conquer the dueling aspect, and he struggles at first to live up to their expectations. The pressure was great, to the point that he eventually snapped from it. Later, he starts placing his own life and goals over theirs but it's a difficult choice for him since he thinks he's risking alienating himself from everything he's ever known and his family. He wants to prove to them, that he can carve out his own future without relying on their support. Being that his family hasn't been the most demonstrative in sharing their feelings, Chazz tends to guard his emotions as well. He is capable of forming friendships and connections to others, but not with an overt layer of sentimentality. He shows his loyalty by showing up when he's needed, or reluctantly pitching in to solve a problem.. as if he's really going out of his way to get involved instead of just admitting that he actually cares.
At the root of it all, Chazz is just a guy trying to find his way in life. He has his strengths and weaknesses, his good days and bad. He makes mistakes, a LOT of them, he can learn from them. Sometimes he takes himself too seriously, but he also can relax and just get into the typical sorts of shenanigans that someone his age would.

Character Name: Monsoon Series: Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Timeline: Post-Death (Raid At Denver) Canon Resource Links:Metal Gear Wiki
Personality:
Monsoon is a true product of his upbringing. Having grown up under the Khmer Rouge he spent his childhood immersed in a hellscape of humanity's worst aspects, and was irreparably formed by the things he had to do in order to survive. Being made to work as an executioner in what came to be known as "The Killing Fields" Monsoon had been forced to take human life on dozens if not hundreds of occasions by the time he'd grown into a man. Dealing with such a horrific process for years on end resulted in him developing a very grim view on the world in general, adopting a hardcore nihilistic outlook that the one rule that existed in the world was to "kill or be killed." Even after being liberated from the persecution of Pol Pot's regime he would continue to hold this view, becoming further galvanized by discovering Richard Dawkins' book "The Selfish Gene."
Learning about Meme Theory introduced Monsoon to the notion that people are merely the byproduct of the memes that are passed-on to them, and this would only contribute towards his nihilistic outlook. The subsequent treatment he received after the fall of the Khmer Rouge further reinforced this idea and firmly established the that free will was well and truly a myth. Viewing himself as nothing more than the result of the memes passed on to him by others he moved through jobs that suited the skills he'd picked up in his role as executioner, blowing from criminal outfit to criminal outfit. As the years passed he would become more and more fixed in his views that existence is meaningless, growing versed enough in his this that he could even debate and poke holes in the fallacies of other's viewpoints. Despite how committed he'd become to this well-weathered exterior of uncaring callousness, beneath all the nihilism lay a sliver of the young man that could have been.
Outwardly espousing that nothing in life mattered Monsoon secretly maintained a part of himself that yearned for something to matter despite it all. He invested himself heavily into the arts of Ninjitsu and Okinawan Kobudō and seemed to take genuine joy in the skill with which he wielded them, however much this conflicted with his own ethics. The most telling example that a piece of himself that valued his own life still remained (or that he still possessed instincts of self-preservation at least) would be seen after he received mortal injuries in a shootout. Rather than just "returning to the Earth" as he so often claimed is the fate of all living things he would instead undertake a costly cybernetic augmentation process, saving himself from his extensive injuries and being reborn as exactly the sort of super-powered Ninja kids idolize. This sliver of hope would be further pulled-upon when he met with Steven Armstrong, who's ironclad beliefs and wish to tear down the post-Patriots corruption that gripped the world resounded with Monsoon on a deep level. Despite his best efforts to remain jaded these ideals perfectly touched on those aspects of Nihilism that he truly believed-in while also showing a way towards a future that he could genuinely prescribe to.
Further adding to the enigma that Monsoon had become was the fact that he was quite well-spoken, and seemingly quite well-educated and well-read. While many of his compatriots within Desperado expressed themselves through frequent vulgarity and no small amount of swearing Monsoon kept an almost squeaky-clean vocabulary. Preferring to debate his opponents rather than simply insult them he took an obvious joy in picking people apart, but in a way that suggested an enjoyment of the back-and-forth rather than simple bullying. Likely due to his time learning martial arts Monsoon modeled his cyborg after traditional Ninja clothing and equipment, suggesting he held an appreciation for both Japanese culture and architecture (further supported by him seemingly feeling defensive when someone expressed negative views towards either.) Whether through his own education or through his experiences after becoming a cyborg, Monsoon also seems to possess a significant understanding of magnetism. His wargear is masterfully crafted to both implement cutting-edge electromagnetic technology as well as to be molded after the arts he himself wielded, and all of it had the definite feeling of having been tailored to his exact tastes.
Monsoon is, by everything that we can see, a man eternally torn in two directions. On the one hand is the side of him that has come to exist through decades of blood, death, and trauma: A deeply callous and hardened man, espousing and feeling that nothing matters, who seems to yearn for the eventual death that will come to him but lacks the nerve to end his existence through his own means. On the flip side of that is the man he could and would have been had it not been for the Khmer Rouge: A sharp and capable man with a deep appreciation for both science and tradition and a hope to see the world bettered. Both these exist at all times within Monsoon, but the memes that have been so cruelly passed to him prevent him from ever being able to be able to rectify one with the other.

-The WoD is basically a grimdark urban fantasy version of the real world, with vampires, mages, fairies, werewolves, etc. I'm ignoring most of the other stuff and focusing on the vampire stuff. -Most vampires adhere to this concept called the Masquerade, where they make sure the public doesn't know vampires or other supernaturals are real. -There are three major factions in the modern Western vampire world. The first is the Camarilla, an extremely lawful and bureaucratic vampire government who believes that the Masquerade must be upheld at all costs, and that all vampires must adhere to a rigid hierarchy. Then there's the Anarchs, who rebel against the hierarchy of the Camarilla, but still mostly cling to their humanity and abide by the more common sense rules, like the Masquerade. Finally we've got the Sabbat, a completely batshit insane death cult who rebel entirely against the elder vampires, and who are also preparing for the end of the world when the ancients shall arise from their slumber and eat everyone. Yeah.
The setting for my own game is early 2022, although László is much older, having been born in the 1880s and turned into a vampire in the 1920s.

Character Name: Eda (full name Edalyn) Clawthorne Series: The Owl House Timeline: pre-O Titan, Where Art Thou Canon Resource Links:Spoiler warning!
Personality: As a saleswoman, Eda is more than a little crooked, and as a criminal, she's wanted, but as a witch? She's as powerful as they come. Or at least, she was. But more on that later.
She's wild and cool, clever, and at times a tad obsessive-- She can be "ride or die". Additionally, Eda is fiercely independent. So much so that it took her a long time to realize and accept that she's also an extremely maternal person. She looks after her own and cares for those who can't take care of themselves, starting years ago when she took in a baby demon who would become, for all intents and purposes, her son. But Eda's stubborn, and spent a long time insisting she was not the parent type at all. Eda believes individuality is invaluable, and she often says how "weirdos need to stick together". And while Eda's got a temper and impatience to her, she's still a good mentor/teacher when all is said and done. Sure, she's unorthodox and sometimes under-prepared, but she knows her stuff and she always manages to impart her wisdom in the end.
As a child, Eda was cursed. Before then, she was spunky and a troublemaker, but not nearly so isolated as she became. But once the Owl Beast first showed itself, Eda started putting up walls to keep others away. This can be seen with her refusal to talk to Raine Whispers, who she was dating at the time, about what she was going through and struggling with. Soon, Eda was pushing everyone away; it's something of a small miracle that King and, yes, even Hooty got under her skin as early as they did.
But since meeting the human Luz, Eda has changed. She's still a spitfire with a dark sense of humor, and no morning person-- But Luz really did open up that supportive side of Eda, and her willingness to connect with others in all cases. And Eda has fully embraced her position as a mother to King and Luz. Sure, she's not the traditional sort of mom, but she loves her kids and would do anything and fight anyone to keep them safe. She briefly reconnected with Raine before their assumed (by Eda) death or capture, and she's even mended things with her sister - who cursed her - and her mother. Eda's mother couldn't understand that Eda's curse was part of her, and to be fair, neither could Eda for quite a while.
The Owl Beast within Eda was a struggle from the start, but Eda found she could manage this other form with a special potion-- She still needs that, but she's also come to terms with this form as part of her, and a part that's not all bad; that can be just as hurt by her as she is by it. Eda can even do a partial transformation due to how much she's come to an understanding with the Owl Beast, giving her a harpy-like form. Another factor in Eda dealing with the curse better now is her sister, Lilith, taking part of it from her. Between the curse getting stronger before then, and an experience where Eda was nearly petrified, she has lost her natural magic. And so, now, it's Luz who's teaching Eda-- To use magic the way the human learned, with wild magic harnessed via glyphs.

Character Name: Tristan Taylor Series: Yu-Gi-Oh! Timeline: Episode 200 Canon Resource Links: Yugioh Wiki
Personality:
In general, Tristan is an easygoing guy that takes things in stride as they happen, a loyal companion, and a devoted friend. This dedication spans the length of the series. In season one, he travels to an island called Duelist Kingdom to support Yugi as he tries to recover his kidnapped grandpa, and Joey as he tries to earn the prize money in order to pay for his sister's eye surgery. While there he even tries to free Bakura from the effects of the Millennium Ring by chucking the artifact into the wilderness. During the Waking the Dragons arc, he travels with Yugi and the others to America in order to stop an Ancient Atlantean king from awakening a great beast intent on destroying the world. Even as late as the final season, Tristan is always there, along for the ride and offering his brand of aide. Those instances alone speak volumes about his character and what he's willing to do in the name of friendship. This is a guy that will literally travel to other continents without hesitation to help a pal out. He has a strong moral compass so he hates seeing others getting a raw deal, being bullied, or exploited and he will often step in if he thinks he's in a position to defuse the situation. Although Tristan is not lacking in courage or compassion he might be a little negligent in self-preservation. Sometimes it seems either like he thinks he's impervious to injury or he's just compelled by a sense of justice, or raw emotions. He's highly protective of others, without really asking for much in return.
He wasn't always so altruistic. Originally, when Tristan was just trying to find a niche for himself at Domino High he was actually more of a jerk and a bully himself. Tearing down others was just one way to elevate himself. It wasn't until he witnessed the selfless act of a much punier classmate that finally got him to turn his act around. That being said there are a few aspects that he never really quite shook from his past. He vents a lot of his day to day frustrations through levity, which ranges from word puns to straight up sarcasm. That's not to say that he never loses his cool, because he totally can and does, either giving in to panic or rage depending on the circumstances. If he deems it warranted, he's not above resorting to physical violence to get his point across either... he's just.. more selective with who he punches in the face now. Tristan can also have moments of hardheaded stubborness where it's difficult to convince him that he's in the wrong. This usually comes out in the form of bickering between himself and his bff Joey Wheeler. To outsiders their arguments likely look more serious than they in fact are. It's just always been a part of how the two communicate.
Even with everything he's experienced and been through, Tristan is still your typical teenage male. He's prone to being immature and cutting up with the gang, chowing down on too much food, and the like. He has a healthy sense of humor and isn't above playing the ocassional practical joke here or there. Roughhousing with his friends is never off the table. It should be noted that he is almost completely hopeless when it comes to flirtation or dating, not that he wouldn't want to become more proficient in both. When he's crushing on someone hard, he will act like a total doofus around them as he tries to win their affections. Unfortunately, Tristan finds it difficult to put his feelings into words so it can be hard for people to decipher that he likes them in that way. The canon also affords some insight into how he reacts with a romantic rival, and generally speaking it's a mixed bag. There's the usual sort of back and forth banter that you might expect, some flared tempers, but ultimately he can place aside his jealously if the situation around them becomes dire. Tristan isn't foolish enough to risk someone else's life in order to come out on top, not even in romance. Where he lacks book smarts, and card game strategizing, he excels in street smarts and a general sense of practicality.
Tristan is a flawed individual that's come a long way from where he started in the canon. His strengths lie in his determination to see something through to the end, his unwavering devotion to those he cares about, and his willingness to hears someone out, sometimes after the initial transgression, but.. he's not perfect. If you're looking for a true blue companion, that only has your best interests at heart then look no further. As long as you can accept the flaws right along with it. His weaknesses lie in still having a tendency to consider violence too quickly, a general lack of tact, and his inability to clearly express his emotions.

she's very vain and tends to use her looks to get the things she wants, especially from men. her confidence is very much a shield though because in her youth, loneliness and emptiness formed and ingrained itself without her due to parents who weren't there for her. she never really learned how to be a kind, caring person and that stuck with her all the way into adulthood. even when she's grown, she remains lonely and sad behind the mask of vanity. mai lets her despair take control of herself to the point that she considers the harpy ladies cards her only friends. it isn't until yugi muto helps her in the duelist kingdom tournament that she allows her walls to begin to come down. over the time spent with him and the gang, she slowly lowers her guard more and more until she finally feels as though she's made some actual friends.
as she opens up more and more, she even develops some feelings for joey wheeler but holds them close to her chest. she remains guarded about having feelings for someone and instead retreats into herself, using sass and teasing as methods to avoid breaching the subject with pretty much anyone.
in spite of the growth she displays thanks to yugi and the gang, she tends to let her loneliness eat her confidence away several times throughout the series. although she does feel like the others have become friends, mai lets herself be overwhelmed with emptiness when she attempts to duel marik ishtar. each time she loses a monster, due to it being a shadow game, she ends up alone and lost in the darkness of the shadow game. this brings back her despair and emotions about being mistreated by her parents and as though the friendships she formed were nothing more than something she built up in her mind.
strong-willed, mai has been somewhat forced to become an independent person who is not afraid to put in a day of hard work due to her parents and her abandonment issues. she is determined to show the world that she can make it on her own and make a name for herself in doing so. as such, part of her "take nothing" attitude causes her to be rather blunt when she needs to be— or is teasing someone joey wheeler. as time progresses, perhaps in large part because she does long for companionship and to be able to say she has "real friends," she opens up and becomes more compassionate and kinder than she previously had been when first met by the gang. it's through watching the gang being ready to do whatever they can for one another that she realizes they are her friends and she can also protect them if the need arises.
you can see that form of protection and kindness when she has a moment of charity as she gives her qualifying star chips to yugi muto so he can continue in the tournament to save his grandfather. she also shows some sympathy for joey and grants him her entry fee card so he can get in, too, because he wants to save his little sister. although she would deny it, mai has a moral code where she doesn't allow her friends— whether she admits to having them or not— get into binds they otherwise can't get out of.

Personality: for one so soft and gentle, serenity shows a great deal of strength when she's first met by her brother joey's friends. she is dealing with suffering an illness that has crippled her due to being nearly completely blind and the biggest thing that gets her through that is her good natured optimism that things will turn out okay. joey had made the promise that he would win money while dueling in the duelist kingdom championship but serenity was aware that the operation might not happen. in spite of that, she shows a great deal of hope for her brother which is the driving factor in his going forward with the competition.
although she's a kind soul, serenity can be extremely naive which can make her something of a vulnerable person. tristan tells her that he's taught everything that joey knows about dueling to him in an attempt to impress her and she doesn't even for a moment think that might not be true. to this day, she believes him to be a dueling expert. she's the sort that trusts on a whim which could be bad for her in some situations. it's one of the reasons that joey is so fiercely protective of her.
in their youths, joey and serenity got along swimmingly but their parents did not. after their divorce, joey went away to live with their father but serenity kept in contact with her brother to create and continue sharing a strong familial bond with him. serenity looks up to joey and isn't afraid of telling him how much she loves him and how he's the greatest big brother that a little sister could have. this love for one another is what fuels joey's ambitions in his dueling to help her with the much needed operation that can help her regain her sight.
although fragile and the optimist of the group for the time she's with them, serenity has moments where she acts more like her brother to the point that she encourages mai to prank the group after waking from the coma she had fallen into thanks to marik ishtar and even going as far as calling nezbitt a "metal mouth" during her tag-team match against him. which shows that in spite of typically suffering from "damsel in distress" syndrome, she has moments of outward strength and attitude rather than simply being an inwardly confident young girl.
Pokémon Information Affiliation: breeder. Starter: eevee would be my choice for serenity. she's a soft, sweet young girl who is something of a rare beacon of light to her brother especially. they've both been though rough times in their lives but in spite of that, serenity remains a steadfast ally to her brother and their friends, instills hope in those around her and is just plain good a person. i think that matches an eevee who would grow and benefit from her friendship to possibly blossom into a sylveon in the future. Player Name: Mari E-mail: wynonnamaree@gmail.com Preferred Contact:mariscorner, Mariposa21 #4257 Timezone: PhST Current Characters in Victory Road: Harry Potter
Personality: The one way to describe Isabela’s predicament is that she is shaped by having to deal and live with the pressures and expectations put before her as the golden child among her family or Señorita Perfecta as Mirabel once called her. It is not easy being the eldest grandchild of the family who has high standards to live by, caused by the trauma her Abuela Alma went through from losing her husband (and Isabela’s grandfather) Pedro 50 years before the story starts. The pressure she places onto her children and grandchildren to make use of their gifts has caused the family to suffer internally in their own way and, in Isabela’s case, she has to deal with to be the golden standard while consciously needing to ignore her own desires for the family, the encanto/enchantment, and the town they live in.
Outwardly, she comes off as a graceful and elegant lady with a bit of haughty arrogance who grows beautiful flowers and doesn’t seem to do no wrong, except that it is a facade for a woman who has to repress her true self in order to live up to the image of the golden child. Deep down, she finds living by Alma’s expectations too much for her and she really wants to live her life as she intends to be and explore and experiment with the other options she could do with her gift; it is implied from her character song that she truly has a deep interest in botany and horticulture in general. She has become rather jaded by how people expect her to be as pretty as her flowers and she has grown to hate her situation of needing to live up to the expectations of others, yearning to be more independent and be in control of her life. But because of the pressures surrounding her, she had to hide her true feelings, desires, and dreams in order to make her family and especially Alma proud, even if it means having to marry the man her cousin Dolores has feelings for, Mariano. It is even revealed that she had only agreed to marry him as an obligation to her family during the fight with Mirabel in her room, stating that she didn’t want to get into a marriage with him by her own will. She is even seen visibly upset about having to accept the marriage proposal while singing the last parts of ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ and also shows shock when Dolores reveals that Mariano wants to have 5 kids with her (Isabela) that she involuntarily grows flowers on her hair as a response. She can get very annoyed by Camilo’s antics when he takes on Mariano’s form that she has to put up flower petals to shut his mouth while (secretly) expressing her displeasure of having to say ‘yes’ to a man she doesn’t have any genuine feelings for. Not to mention that she can come off as rude at times and is able to show anger when pushed to her limits, which is how Mirabel caused her to have an epiphany about being able to do more than just growing pretty flowers.
While it is not shown much in canon, she deeply cares for her family and does a lot to make them them proud, showing off a selfless and loyal side to her like when she tries to help saving the miracle candle during the Casita’s destruction. While her relationship with Mirabel is strained and distant for most of the film and she had a slightly negative view on her uncle Bruno for his vision of her future initially, she is shown to be close to Luisa, her aunt Pepa, and Dolores as shown when she begins to worry for Luisa when her strength was slowly fading away moments leading to the dinner proposal, when she tries to calm Pepa down with a bouquet of roses, and when she and Dolores hold hands and they hug each other while witnessing Antonio’s gift ceremony respectively. Upon letting go of her golden child image, she becomes less restrained and begins to lighten up, no longer feeling burdened by the weigh of people’s expectations and the pressure of being perfect.
Her relationship with Mirabel is one filled with strain and hostility as she once told her to not get in the way, and, when Mariano and his mom come over for the dinner proposal, that she ‘doesn’t want to a word out of her’ during the dinner. She can be hard on her and does seem to be aloof towards her youngest sister and she in return finds her annoying to the point of seeing her as a spoiled and selfish person, both of them unaware how much the other is suffering from dealing with familial pressures. It is also hinted and implied that she may be jealous of Mirabel for not having to deal with the same pressures she has to deal with on a daily basis. It is only when Mirabel learns to see that there is more to Isa than her seemingly perfect façade that the two of them can build a better relationship together.
Through having an honest conversation and reconciling with Mirabel and with the support of the rest of the Madrigals, Isabela learns that she can be more than just her gift and she doesn’t need to be the perfect golden child to be her own person, with her hair and dress eventually getting dyed by different colored pollen and letting her gift to grow other plant life like sundews and cacti, gleefully letting out a rebellious side of her that she had been hiding for so long. She has also learned to express her creativity and interest in plants much more freely than she has done before. She is still a young lady with a lot of things to learn and do who still deeply cares for and loves her family and the community. But she is now learning not to be restrained by other people’s expectations and that it’s okay to be yourself and explore your interests within your own terms.

Victory Road Sample: It has been a few days since she has arrived at Jotho and Isabela is pretty torn by homesickness and her desire to explore Jotho and grow her team. She has been plagued by worries that she might be displaced away from her family and wonders how they will process the fact that she went missing at home, especially her parents and her sisters. Julieta and Augustin are not going to not like it that their eldest daughter has gone missing. Hoping to distract herself from these thoughts, she decides to take a break at the beach at Cherrygrove City. So there she is, relaxing on a blanket at the beach together with her Budew who is snuggling up beside her. The scenery is a lot different from the Encanto which has been surrounded by mountains and jungles for her entire life so she does take the view of the sea very well. She hasn’t seen anything like this before and she is very eager to see what it is like before she can head back to the Pokémon Center.
The Budew gingerly squeaks as she turns to her Trainer while hunger begins to take a hold on her stomach, “Bud, Bud-dew.”
“Oh, are you getting very hungry, Carmen?” Isabela asks her as she begins to go through her backpack.
“Budew! Budew, Budew,” the little Budew squeaks in reply as she nods her head energetically.
Luckily she has not finished up the trail mix that she got from the strange lady in New Bark so she then passes it onto Carmen for her to eat. The little Budew happily chimes in as she eats up some of the Trail Mix from Isabela’s own hands. She is quite relieved to see the smile on her partner while she enjoys the food, the eldest Madrigal does want to make sure that Carmen will grow strong with her while she is in this world. And perhaps she could lead her to an adventure she never expects to witness before her very own eyes.

Character Name: hitoka yachi Series: haikyū!! Timeline: post series Canon Resource Links:wiki.
Personality: ☀️a paranoid parrot
At first glance and when meeting new people, Yachi can be described as increasingly skittish, easily flustered and over-reactive. Because of her anxious nature, Yachi's imagination soars to places it . . . Probably shouldn't go. Rather than taking gradual steps, this takes absurd leaps: from thinking popular, beautiful women have assassin fan groups that would kill her for staying too close, or beginning to fret that she'll never get a job, live a poor life and need to sell her organs on the black market to survive after being unable to remember a colleague's name.
She's easily frightened, and such jouncing imagination causes her to judge people solely by appearance from time to time (though she's aware this is horrible and always apologizes when fear gets the best of her). Because of her nervousness, she's searched up ways to combat her behavior and will gladly share it with others who have the same problem: voice what you're feeling! Yachi directs her energy nowadays to vocalizing her feelings, whether through harmless interjections or a direct "I'm nervous!".
☀️i'm . . . what? no way.
It's easy to assume that because of her jittery anxiety, Yachi doesn't possess a base of steel confidence— and she doesn't. She consistently underestimates herself, her abilities, her work and her self importance even when she has many important qualities and skills. She usually needs a bump from others and when she receives such unexpected flattery, it touches her and boosts her to do even better. What's good about Yachi's lacking self esteem is that it doesn't bury her into a hole she can get out of; easily, she can perceive genuine words and how much it helps or has helped others, bringing her to a fuzzy good feeling and necessity to continue.
☀️i got some anti-acids right here!
Tagging into the above quality, Yachi is highly considerate of others and repeatedly strives to achieve a satisfactory support role. She cares for people both in mind and action, seeking to help when things grow dim and unafraid to yell for it if she can't give. Highly empathetic, heartfelt words could easily bring Yachi to tears, and seeing someone down will prompt her to immediately attempt to make them feel better.
☀️mom's a designer, so . . . !
For the most part, Yachi is extremely curious. When something catches her attention (which could be pretty much anything; she didn't have knowledge or interest in sports or volleyball before being asked to check out the managing roll and join the team) she can grow extremely passionate about it, jotting every detail that she's learned so she doesn't forget and then studying later to acheive maximum information potential. If she can be useful, she'll probably dive headfirst in. Her eye for organization, design, detail and studiousness comes from a background already present in her household and only receiving more juice and room for improvement by those that surround her. Her notes are impeccable, easy to study, and that by default grants Yachi a gift of note only being a patient and exceptional tutor, but a young and aspiring administrator.
☀️here comes the sun
Once made comfortable around a group and with her job, Yachi's energy can escalate (probably not as much as the boys on the volleyball team, that's way too much even for her!) into a bright, well meaning smile and jolly shrieking to cheer her team on. While not a complete extrovert, slipping out of her fragile shell is easier— she'll try to talk to people more, get into conversation, make jokes, offer them a helper and laugh enough to haul the sun into the room.

Character Name: Loona Series: Helluva Boss Timeline: Most recent episode, which is Season 2, Episode 3 Canon Resource Links:Here
Personality:
On the outside, Loona seems aggressive, cruel, and with terrible people skills. But on the inside...
She's still like that. Loona is a Hellhound, creatures usually born in Hell and used as workers for whatever a person needs. Loona's role is receptionist for I.M.P, answering calls for clients who want to hire I.M.P. Loona is purposefully terrible at her job, uncaring as her role in the group. She consistently hangs up on clients, drinks before work, and can be seeing flipping through magazines at her desk. She steals other employees' lunches, and is basically the worst coworker imaginable. Very rarely, she'll take her job seriously - usually when the group is threatened and needs some kind of rescue, in which Loona is very good at tracking and fighting.
Loona's also very short-tempered, fueled by her doting adopted father, Blitzo. Blitzo adopted her as she was aging out of the foster care system, and she has stated that she doesn't need Blitzo to be her father, and that she was fine on her own. She almost seems to resent Blitzo for adopting her, despite how much he loves her and excuses her worst behaviors. But she does acknowledge that despite her adoptive father's screwups, he does try for her. And she seems to show regret when she genuinely hurts his feelings. When she tells Blitzo off for interrupting her conversation with Vortex, she tries to correct herself before he dismisses her and walks off. She tells Vortex that "he'll get over it" but seems to express regret for how she treated him. In other scenarios, she shows intense anger when she's interrupted, shut down, touched, or insulted. Blitzo tells the other members of I.M.P that she's "sensitive", to which she agrees she is.
Deep down, Loona is wary of letting herself open up to people, or letting herself depend on others. She nearly aged out of a very crappy foster system, and wasn't well-regarded in the foster system, her caretakers seemingly glad to get rid of her as she nears turning 18. She does have moments where she shows sympathy, such as when she finds Octavia, she tries to offer a little bit of comfort to her after Octavia ran away due to being upset with her father. And if her team members are in trouble, she will try to come to the rescue... although sometimes she takes her sweet time to get there.
Loona, being from Hell, has seen and knows of the worst of humanity. She has a low opinion of people on Earth, assuming the worst about people. Since she was raised in Hell, she can come off as cruel, violent, saying awful things to people she knows. She tries to watch herself while during missions on Earth, trying to blend into as a human. She seems to know how to blend in with humans well enough, as she's the only one who manages to find Octavia on Earth when she runs away. She also has a "Sinstagram", a parody of Instagram, which she uses constantly.
Pokémon Information Affiliation: Trainer Starter: Hisuian Zorua Password: Atomic Fireball
Loona was busy pulling some twigs out of her hair, teeth barred in a growl. No one else was around to hear her complain - no one, except a small white and red fox that's been following her through the forest. Loona's not really sure how she got so much crap in her hair, though she imagines it'd be worse with her usual fur...
... She kind of wishes she had her fur. Or was able to revert back to her normal body. But despite her best attempts, she seems to be stuck as a human. It's strange, she's never lost control of her powers before. Well, the rules here seem to work differently here. Apparently this place doesn't trust you to take a piss by yourself without some little creature following you around.
And uh, it's getting kind of weird that her da - Blitzo is taking so much time to get to her. Shouldn't he be here by now? He was looking for her, right? She knows he would. He's probably freaking out right now-
Ugh, get it together Loona. She turns to the little fox Pokemon, a... Zorua? Despite her best efforts, she's failed to scare him off.
"So uh, this stuff is pretty normal to you, right?"
The Zorua chirps in response. She's not sure if that's a yes or no. Ugh, why does she need this little guy following her? And does he even have a name other than just "Zorua"? That's his species name, right?
"Well, when we get to town, I'm introducing you to coffee. I think we both could use one, once we get out of this shithole."
The Hisuian Zorua doesn't respond, but follows her. He stops when she trips over a rock and tumbles to the ground. There's a loud "FUCK!" as she falls, planting into the ground face down.

Character Name: Chai Series: Hi-Fi RUSH Timeline: End of post-game content, after SPECTRA gets unplugged Canon Resource Links:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-Fi_Rush
Personality: Chai is an extremely laid-back guy with larger than life ambitions of becoming a rockstar. He’s fond of puns, stupidly overconfident, and is…well, kind of stupid. Despite wanting to be a rockstar and a huge rock music aficionado, he has never picked up a guitar in his life, and certainly doesn’t know how to play it. If given the option between not doing something and doing something, Chai will almost always decide to simply sit back, relax, and not do it. Peppermint, one of his allies, had to leverage the fact that Chai did not know his way off Vandelay Island in order to have him help her find out more about SPECTRA, a top secret project that was revealed to be a malevolent AI.
Of course, after helping Peppermint take down SPECTRA and her evil brother, Kale, Chai’s taken on a greater sense of responsibility and is a tad more motivated than before. But even after defeating Kale, he whines and complains about needing to go back through Vandelay’s campus to hunt down remnants of SPECTRA. Better than nothing, though.
His impulsiveness often overrides reason and logic, and he tends to get carried away. While making his way through Vandelay Technologies and taking down the bosses one by one, he frequently charges ahead with his own ideas if left to his own devices, much to his allies’ chagrin. For example, in order to take down the head of R&D, Zanzo, he needed to make his way into the AI Labs to find information on a malevolent AI called SPECTRA. However, while waiting for Peppermint to report back to him on how to get into the labs, he found a nearby door labeled AR Labs and thought it would be the same thing. As a result, however, he ended up trapped by Zanzo and was forced to fight through waves of augmented reality enemies.
His lackadaisical attitude and general lack of intelligence tends to aggravate people. Chai is admittedly not great at de-escalating situations, and in fact tends to inadvertently provoke other people with his casual overconfidence. As commented upon by CNMN, his overconfidence seems to be a mechanism to hide some sort of deeper insecurity, though what exactly that insecurity is was never addressed in the game.
His impulsiveness and thick-headed nature isn’t all bad, though. No matter how many times he’s kicked down, physically and emotionally, Chai always gets back up. Besides, sometimes, a dumb plan is just what you need for a bad situation. In order to get past a full-security lockdown, Chai suggested shooting himself out of a cannon and into the chief financial executive’s office. Although all his allies expressed the sheer stupidity of the plan, they decided to go along with it anyway. The plan ended up working, much to Chai’s surprise–though, he did end up a few floors below his intended target.
Above all, Chai is extremely earnest and full of heart, even if he does love cheesy puns and one-liners. Although Chai initially thinks of himself as a loner, by the end of the game, he grows to love and respect the friends he gained along the way. When Kale is finally defeated and Peppermint congratulates Chai for defeating him, he corrects her and says “we did it”. His uplifting and indomitable spirit endears other people to him, and helps him be an effective leader–even if he is incredibly stupid.

At times he might be considered to be too quick on the support angle, but that's generally just fueled by him wanting to show how helpful and caring he can be. While he's generally fairly excitable, he's also not incapable of getting quiet and serious, the soft, tender moments between friends as important to him as the raucous parties with a gaggle of Fraggles.
This isn't to say he's all sunshine and rainbows, however. He says he's brave, but at the moment it's more naive foolhardiness, having a little ways to go before he truly learns what bravery is; this has gotten him into trouble more than a couple times. He also has quite the temper, which he tends to turn inside, though he has lashed out once or twice at others with it. For the most part he tries to keep a lid on it, though he isn't always successful. He also has an intense desire to be seen as capable and smart, which can sometimes run afoul of said temper, just driving him into a little black period. No matter what happens to him though, he'll always bounce back, even if it takes him a minute, and often with his own support mirrored back to him from his friends.

Character Name: Vash the Stampede Series: Trigun Stampede Timeline: Post Episode 7 Canon Resource Links:History + Episodes which covers Vash’s upbringing, at least prior to the July incident. In Stampede, Vash’s early years in Stampede are largely similar to the manga. The key differences are highlighted in the episode Our Home, but have also been broken down below.
+Vash maintains a level of care and love for the humans, going as far as visiting those still in cryogenic sleep and greeting them by name. Nai implies that this is because Vash’s own lack of ability as a plant resulted in him desperately trying to appeal to the humans for a sense of belonging. +Vash and Knives do not meet William Conrad prior to the Big Fall +Knives does not fall into a coma after discovering Tesla +Vash does not declare his hatred of humans, nor does he attempt to harm himself or injure Rem. Instead, he attempts to appeal to Nai to let go of his fear and resentment. +Tesla is still alive, according to the bioscans in Stampede. +Vash and Knives separate from one another after the Big Fall and do not see each other for another 5 years. This allows for Vash to live amongst humans. Though they initially treat him with distrust, he becomes family to them and eventually refers to the ship they’ve all taken refuge on as “Home.” +Vash’s arm is severed after accidentally activating his gate. Despite this, he still defends the human, Luida, with his life. This results in the final severing of the ties between brothers. Despite the grievous injuries Vash receives, and the murders that he witnesses at the hand of his sibling, Vash is still determined to not kill him.
Regardless of these differences, Vash was still deeply influenced by the events prior to his adulthood. Though just as troubled by the events that occurred with Tesla, he opted to believe in the words of his mother, who assured him that while humans made the same mistakes, they also could learn just as she did. He maintains faith in humans, and likewise encourages his brother to do the same. This moment would prove to be defining for both brothers, as it was in this moment that Nai decided to “free” his brother from his ties to the humans, leading to the crashing of the Project Seeds fleet.
Personality: One can’t talk about Vash without talking about Love and Peace. That is to say, Vash is an ardent pacifist. After being assaulted by military police, the first words out of his mouth are insisting that they settle things without bloodshed. He is likewise horrified when a duel is proposed on his behalf, and refuses to draw when the duel begins. Instead, he attempts to talk (rather playfully) down his opponent, though this quickly backfires.
Later, when Meryl accuses him of being lame, reasoning that running away isn’t always the answer. In response he asks Meryl. “What’s so terrible about being a little timid? Is fighting head on always right? It risks lives, and for what?” Yet despite this, the second he realizes that his plan has failed and that Jeneora Rock is under attack, he jumps back on his thomas (it’s a bird not a person I promise) and immediately rides back to Jeneora Rock to help out. This is where we see that while Vash might strive to not hurt people, he isn’t afraid to commit some acts of violence (fighting back) in an attempt to prevent more violence (death). He throws himself right into the fray in an attempt to save Rosa, kicking Gofsef’s fist away as he rescues her. Later, leaps into the fray to stop E.G. the Mine, not even hesitating to put a gun to the man’s head.
Whether a fight is big or small, Vash throws himself into peacemaking, doing his best to pacify the fighting between Wolfwood and de Niro. Still, Vash tries to hide this nature behind other excuses – that he doesn’t want to fire his bullets because they’re pricey and he could buy food (ie: donuts) with that money instead
This commitment to not harming others stands above the need for self-preservation, with Vash willingly standing down in the face of Monev the Gale and his two very large arm cannons. Instead, he fires to disarm and disorient the man. Immediately after burying him beneath rubble, he rushes to the man’s side and is relieved to know that his efforts hadn’t accidentally killed Monev, all in spite of the fact that Monev had been trying to kill him. Wolfwood immediately accuses him of being a dumbass. Despite this scolding, though, Vash doesn’t hesitate to throw himself in front of Monev once again just a short time later, being brutally beaten and strangled all in an attempt to get through to the boy he used to know down below (Rollo). He does something similar in the midst of their fight with Livio, looking away from the very armed punisher beneath him in favor of telling Wolfwood off for firing on the members of the military police attacking them.
Nevertheless, though he may default to doing no harm, he doesn’t hesitate to come to blows with others over his cause. After Wolfwood kills Rollo, Vash throws himself at Wolfwood, though he admittedly never attempts to throw a punch. Whether this is due to Wolfwood’s answer to the question of why he killed in the first place or pure unwillingness is up for speculation.
Regardless, Vash continues to hold Wolfwood’s decision over his head, believing that neither he nor anyone else deserve to choose who lives or dies. He holds others to his own standards and beliefs, to the point that he outright insists that Wolfwood must have someone he wants to protect. And while Vash is not incorrect, his stubborn insistence on forcing Wolfwood to protect said person results in their apparent death. It’s for this reason that Vash can come off as presumptive, even arrogant and inflexible, as he believes his way is the only one.
Vash’s idealistic ways extend to how he perceives people as well. He claims that Wolfwood won’t hurt him, because the man has “the eyes of a good guy.” This is despite the fact that Wolfwood is actually working with the Eye of Michael, an organization under Millions Knives’ thumb. Wolfwood himself is contracted to bring Vash to the city Julai, where Knives is waiting– a fact that Vash is ultimately well aware of. Though it has not happened yet as of his canon point, Vash ultimately implies that he’s known all along who Wolfwood has been working for. However, one could also argue that this belies an accurate judgment of character on Vash’s part, despite everything. Wolfwood may work as the Punisher, but as he later says, his "instinct is to protect,” and much of what he does, including his more villainous affiliations, all stem from wanting to keep others safe.
Nevertheless, this idealism is commented on and is often ill-received by several characters. Roberto calls Vash too generous for leaning into the positive traits of others (Wolfwood, in this case) and ignoring the red flags. Knives, meanwhile, tells him he must pick a side eventually and stop “living off of empty words.” It becomes a bone of contention between Wolfwood and Vash, with the former asking if Vash has a “god complex or a death wish.” He accuses Vash’s act being less than altruistic, and more a matter of satisfying his ego. Because of this, Wolfwood pins the blame of Rollo’s death on Vash, explaining that he was the one who condemned Rollo because of his promises, referring to them as lies. Meryl, meanwhile, views Vash as childish for this worldview and, as mentioned previously, a little lame – going as far as to snap “the grown-ups are talking” when Vash interrupts her. Despite these quips and comments, however, Vash is not dissuaded. Very few fights go by without Vash giving impassioned speeches about doing the right thing or making the right choice, even down to the very final fight against Knives.
This idealism also spans into optimism as well. When trapped within the sand worm, Vash is insistent that he’ll find Meryl, and then Roberto after that. Additionally, despite having witnessed Knives’ history of brutality, Vash finds himself asking why Knives would act in this way, showing that he still believes, however foolishly, that his brother could be better.
Unrealistic though his intentions may seem, especially when it comes to Knives, his core belief that everyone can change stems from the words of his Rem. She had once told the boys that they both possess a blank ticket in life, and that any point they can fill in a new destination. Thus, he believes that at any point, Knives can change his ways.
Unfortunately, his optimism and idealism doesn’t only impact Vash. After promising Rollo that “if God won’t (save you), I will,” the child desperately cries out for him in his time of need as he’s being experimented on/tortured by the Eye of Michael. This results in a singular obsession on the child’s part (albeit exploited by the Eye’s exploitation of his anger), with his eventual identity of Monev the Gale singularly shouting Vash’s name for most of the time he’s on screen. As Wolfwood puts it he “talked a big game but couldn’t deliver.”
Yet while this idealism does bite Vash in the ass on several occasions, it also pays off. Believing he can save both the guests on board the Sand Steamer and Hopeland Orphanage itself, he insists on getting Wolfwood to give him a chance. And in the end, he manages to do just that, though not without pushing his own limits in the process by accessing his latent abilities as a Plant.
It should be no surprise that Vash doesn’t hesitate to lend a hand to those in need. In the very first episode, he’s referred to as Jeneora Rock’s savior. He had previously “taken a look” at their Plant, managing to fix it for free a “few years” prior to the events of canon. Two episodes later, despite the city briefly attempting to turn on Vash and while also being implanted with a bomb of his own, he throws himself into helping the residents by tracking down the one responsible for the bomb implants. Later, he throws himself into danger by tackling Meryl and the still-disguised Zazie out of the way of a falling vehicle, and then dives back into the worm they’re all swallowed up by because he refuses to leave his friends behind.
This need to protect others stems back from his adoptive mother, Rem’s death. Up until that point, Vash believed himself to be useless. It was only her death that spurred him into action, making him determined to become a protector. He refuses to let that happen again. This is likely why he throws himself into protecting and nurturing the sick Plants he grows up around, and also why he ardently defends the humans that Rem sacrificed herself to save.
However, though Vash is glad to throw himself in front of a bullet for people, he still manages to keep them at an arm’s length. Despite having traveled with Roberto and Meryl for some time, he quickly leaves the two of them behind in favor of hopping aboard the Sand Streamer with Wolfwood. When Wolfwood states that he thought the relationship between the Plant and the reporters was special, Vash’s response is simply a casual “not really.”
Kept equally as distant is both his past and his identity as a Plant. His enigmatic ways are the major reason for Meryl continuing to doggedly follow him for the sake of her story. He isn’t forthcoming about his many, many years of life, nor his abilities as a Plant. However, he quickly sacrifices this secrecy for the sake of giving his allies a fighting chance to stop the Sand Steamer by accessing the old Lost Technology aboard the ship. He takes this one step further by using his latent abilities, willing to sacrifice his own security for the lives of others.
Generally speaking, Vash manages to keep his upbeat, goofy and boisterous personality in situations that most other people would lose their cool in. When tied up and left to die by a gang of bandits, his first reaction when someone finally comes to help is to 1) make a terrible pun, and then 2) laugh like an absolute maniac.
Much of this projected persona comes into play in how Vash generally moves around and interacts with the world.Whether it’s flopping around on the ground while being beaten by military police, or cartoonishly stammering to himself, his movements and quips tend to be over exaggerated. Despite fully being capable of shaking free of the rope that Meryl ties him in, Vash waits until a comically opportune moment to do so. Later, when on the so-called stage for his duel, his reaction is to wave and pump up the crowd, rather than focus on his opponent (though we quickly see this persona drop once it becomes obvious no one is paying attention).
That being said, this isn’t entirely a front. When panicking, he does tend to devolve into a slightly chaotic mess. Realizing he’s missing the bullet he needs to stop a rapidly approaching disaster, Vash begins frantically patting himself down and muttering to himself, then desperately shouting to the surrounding citizens for help.
Many people are able to see through this act easily, with Meryl quickly calling Vash out when he attempts to sob and cry and sway her to believing his story about having an “evil twin.” Even still, he has convinced those around him of his ineptitude to some degree, for even Meryl is surprised at just how adept Vash is in combat when he effortlessly takes out an entire crowd of gang members on the Sand Streamer later on.
Even still, he has a tendency to downplay his abilities, insisting that he’s “not much of a fighter.” He keeps up this persona even when confronted and beaten up by the Seven Cities Military Police. By and large, he portrays himself as just some guy, your average joe on a not-so-average planet. Even when asked about some of his more obvious features (the gun in his holster and the very obvious cybernetic arm), he plays it off or brushes it aside. Meryl’s insistence that Vash knows his way around a gun is met with him crediting luck, rather than skill. When being goaded into attacking the Nebraska’s,Vash instead insists that he “doesn’t like pain,” and that he has no sense of pride as a gunman.
His attempts at bluster do not change the fact that he is an extremely adept fighter when push comes to shove. He’s able to effortlessly dodge bullets being fired at him from close range, and then immediately (and non-lethally) disarm the man attacking him.
There’s also an intense level of strategy and calculation that goes through Vash’s mind, when he feels so inclined to do so, of course. When facing down the clusterbomb that threatens Jeneora Rock, Vash quickly grabs a stone, throws it into the air, and then shoots it in order to ensure that the rubble detonates the bombs before they reach the ground. He does this despite having just been fired at repeatedly, something that one could consider a “high stress” situation. In battle, he utilizes all of his resources, such as using his metal arm to deflect bullets that would have otherwise grievously injured him. Similarly, whilst being in the belly of the literal (worm) beast, Vash is able to determine from his surroundings that being digested isn’t an imminent threat, as there is the presence of several undissolved sets of bones.
While Vash is capable of acknowledging his mistakes and apologizing for them, he struggles to learn from them in the end. There’s an underlying level of stubbornness and self-righteousness that he sticks to despite however many times people tell him otherwise. In many ways, Vash is the type of person to ask for forgiveness instead of permission, preferring to disregard other’s wishes (namely Wolfwood’s) and apologize for it later. Despite having been thoroughly scolded for over-promising when it came to Rollo, Vash immediately promises the now adult man that he’ll never have to be alone again. Not long after, Vash insists on being involved with Wolfwood’s fight against Livio, despite the former telling him to leave. The latter is absolutely certain he can help Wolfwood waken Livio from his brainwashed state, pushing his companion to bring his friend back. As mentioned above, this ends disastrously, with the wakened Livio ultimately putting the gun to his head and seemingly taking his own life when the weight of his actions is too much.
The result of these careful efforts means that those who are unaware of his bounty generally tend to like him quite a bit. He’s welcomed with open arms when returning to Jeneora Rock, with Rosa screaming his name in delight and running to greet him – referring to him as “our Vash.” This should be of little surprise, as he not only remembers her by name, but also knows how many kids she has and congratulates her on kicking out the husband he apparently knows to be a deadbeat.
He tends to get on great with children, with Tonis of Jeneora Rock delightedly running to greet him. Vash immediately gets excited and not only treats him with kindness, but also affectionately pets his head as well. He gladly accepts Tonis’s gift of bugs, even though Tonis himself is quickly chased off. Later, he throws himself into helping Zazie’s little orphan persona, later he eagerly embraces them, relieved to see they’re okay and falling into their trap. This likely also plays into the aforementioned idealism. As Zazie points out, humans are so eager to see a child and assume that they’re not a threat.
That said, his ruse may not be as airtight as he thinks, however. Having only just met him, Roberto de Niro calls Vash out, asking “you’re afraid of something, aren’t you?”
It’s through this that we learn Vash is prone to his moments of seriousness. It’s in these moments that the true gravity of a situation is revealed – if Vash the Stampede, who can laugh at being left for dead or chased by bandits – is sobered by something, you know you’re in big trouble. We first see this when he comes face to face with the dying Plant in Jeneora Rock, gravely telling Rosa that it’s going to die. Roberto himself points this out by saying “Military police and you don’t bat an eye. One wonky Plant and you’re pissing yourself.”
He later adopts this firmness again when the entire town is threatened by the aforementioned clusterbomb that’s now rapidly dropping toward the city, urging Rosa to make sure the villagers find cover, rather than seeking shelter for himself. He immediately leaps into action to help others even further on down the line, when the E.G. Bomber begins to lead a raid on the city.
Vash is also a very forgiving individual. Despite Jeneora Rock’s attempts at capturing Vash and turning him over for the bounty, he doesn’t hold it against them. He smiles at Rosa when she explains her reasoning and then, despite having the opportunity to flee shortly after, quickly jumps in and saves both Rosa and Tonis. He takes this one step further by going out of his way to leave Jeneora Rock in an attempt to draw the Nebraska family away before they can cause more harm. When asked by the Nebraska’s why he’s gone to such lengths to save a city of “traitors,” Vash simply replies that he “Has no reason not to.” This would indicate that he understands their need to survive, especially as he insists that the people of Jeneora Rock were otherwise kind to him.
However, that kindness isn’t necessary to wanting to save someone. Vash quickly turns around and offers to save the Nebraska’s too, and then does so by making sure that not only are the Nebraska’s protected from the members of the city, but that Gofsef is rescued from nearly plummeting to his death.
At the end of the day, Vash tends to treat himself like a martyr. The moment things start to go well or seem relatively at ease, he opts to leave. He punishes himself with a life of loneliness, to “run, and run, and keep on running” because of the trouble that follows him. We see this as he sneaks out during the celebration with the Nebraska’s. And in many ways, this moment seems to solidify that decision, as something terrible DOES happen – the arrival of E.G. the Mine and Millions Knives. Many residents die as a result, and Tonis is severely maimed. Even de Niro comments on this, saying that the title “Humanoid Typhoon” is accurate, as getting caught up with him means getting caught in a whirlwind of trouble.
This martyrdom extends even into outright self-sacrifice, starting when he was a young boy. He quickly gave up his own life of comfort for the sake of atoning for what his brother did, leaving behind a note for Luida that states as much. During the fight with E.G. the Mine, Vash throws himself onto the bomber as his own implant gets ready to explode, ready to use his own body to threaten the villain. Later, he damages his arm when attempting to change the Ion Cannon’s direction.
To some degree, this sense of self-martyrdom extends into self-loathing and even self-flagellation. When things fail to go to plan with the bomber, Vash eventually explains to Meryl that he “doesn’t deserve to cry,” showing that he has a generally low opinion of himself. Afterward, he refuses to eat over the span of several days, until Wolfwood’s words finally get through to him sometime later.
Vash has also been shown to beat himself up about his actions, almost to a crippling degree. This starts from a young age, when – after being discovered in the wreckage of Ship 05 – he refuses to eat in an attempt to punish himself. He remarks upon his own uselessness, as he’s unable to create anything despite that being the primary function of a Plant. From the moment he and his trio of misfits enter the Windmill Village, he abandons his wisecracking, outlandish personality. From the moment he lays eyes on the village again and realizes where they are, he is sobered and silent – a fact that isn’t lost on any of his allies. Distracted as he is in this moment, it takes Wolfwood’s yelling to actually spur him into acting. Ultimately, Wolfwood is the one to fully see through this ruse, outright accusing Vash of having been there before.
This merciless treatment for past mistakes is not, however, extended to others. Despite having been marked as a criminal by the Seven Cities Military Police, Vash doesn’t hold any ill-will toward them. When the Sand Streamer comes under attack and Vash is blamed for it to some degree, his first response is not to defend himself, but to insist that the men pointing their guns at him get to safety. And while this hasn’t happened as of his canon point, he later takes this a step further when he is shot in the middle of Julai, immediately encouraging Wolfwood to stand down and refusing to take any action against the man who fired upon him.

Character Name: Livio Series: Trigun Maximum Timeline: end of Double Wings Canon Resource Links: Livio on trigun wiki Razlo’s wiki
Personality: In his childhood, Livio was at first completely self-absorbed, at all times wrapped up in self-pity to the point of being ignorant to others’ feelings entirely. When another child at the orphanage, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, accused him of being a crybaby, he snapped that no one could possibly feel as worthless and unloved as he did, despite being surrounded by other kids with no families and tragic histories. Having this bluntly pointed out to him by Wolfwood seemed to have the desired effect on Livio, and he began to consider those around him. He stopped moping and instead spent time with the other children. Even when doing chores (the bane of any child) he appeared to be genuinely happy, socializing and thriving for possibly the first time in his life. His 180 into devoting himself to others was so complete that, on instinct, he threw himself underneath Jasmine, another resident of the orphanage, when she tumbled off of a building, absorbing her fall and saving her life.
However, these changes reverted literally overnight after Livio woke up to find his hands covered in the blood of Jasmine’s puppy. Despite somehow knowing that he didn’t kill the animal but was still clearly responsible, Livio took the accusations of the other children to heart and fled to a life on the streets. Here, he sank past self-pity into not caring about anything at all. He allowed himself to be ganged up on and beaten by groups of adults, eventually falling so far into despair that he wished they would just kill him.
At the behest of a mysterious boy identifying himself as “Razlo,” Livio sought a purpose within the Eye of Michael, a cult of assassins dedicated to Millions Knives. Livio devoted himself entirely to the Eye, mind, body, and soul. The Eye gifted him with physical capabilities far beyond any natural human level. Still, Livio regularly pushed himself further, often to the point of unconsciousness. He was desperate to continue gaining strength so he wouldn’t be kicked out of the Eye, and willing to forsake any sense of morality he had already attempted to develop so that he could become the perfect assassin. He pushed his own emotions aside far enough that he would become a simple tool for his superiors to direct with no resistance whatsoever.
However, just as in his childhood, Livio was still capable of change for the better. The very same Wolfwood that encouraged him to open up as a child would become the entire reason Livio defected from the Eye – the purpose for which Wolfwood laid down his own life. Livio recognized this intent while they were locked in a battle to the death, and he decided then and there that being a person like Wolfwood, who all but lived to positively serve others, especially those weaker, was worth far more than being a coldblooded assassin.
Although he embraces it, this change takes time for Livio to fully acclimate to. He knows he wants to live, but doesn’t think he deserves to eat following Wolfwood’s death. It’s only once Vash, Wolfwood’s ally, insists that he should, even if only to maintain his strength, that he does. He knows he wants to protect others, but admits he has struggled to find children worth protecting, and finds himself horrified when Vash trusts him enough to fall asleep next to him immediately following Wolfwood’s death. He doesn’t fight back or complain when Wolfwood’s other allies berate him or even hit him, because he believes it’s deserved.
To ends like these, Livio struggles to find his own self-worth, as he always has, although now he has years’ worth of blood on his hands to justify a lack of any sympathy for himself. It’s debatable whether he even considers himself a person beyond his body’s capabilities; he tells Vash that being asked to fight one of the strongest of Knives’ followers is an honor, both because Vash puts that trust in him, and because it is the first time he can put his deadly skills to use to protect people rather than just to harm.
Livio seems to finally find his footing in this encounter; although his opponent, Elendira, poses almost no threat to anyone weak, as they are ultimately unworthy game, Livio realizes he harbors affection for a group of children almost caught in the crossfire, and for their caretaker, who turns out to be Jasmine. He expresses relief and gratitude that these are the first people he finds himself instinctively protecting in his adult life.
In contrast to his moments of melancholy, Livio can also be almost inappropriately silly and sincere. He screams like a little girl upon seeing someone pull a worm out of their mouth. He scuttles around an enemy’s deadly barrage like it’s a game, apparently taking it personally when she doesn’t stop firing after he asks her to wait. And that wasn’t even to stop the fight so much as to get a hat and poncho that he says “make him stronger” due to their sentimental value.
A fundamental understanding of Livio would not be complete without also considering Razlo. While Livio is not explicitly stated in canon to have dissociative identity disorder, Razlo serves exactly like an alter in Livio’s system. Since Livio’s childhood, Razlo has acted as both punching bag and protector; he was created as a trauma response to abuse and neglect from Livio’s parents. Razlo fronts in times of immense distress, especially in response to physical threats.
Although at first Livio did not understand Razlo’s nature, he has come to a deeper understanding of him. Razlo was the one responsible for killing Livio’s abusive parents, for the puppy (which was the reason Jasmine had fallen from the roof in the first place) and also for the violent ends of the men who assaulted young Livio in the streets. Livio recognizes that their switching accounts for gaps in his memory, and that Razlo cares deeply about him.
The two seem to have finally reached a mutual understanding and appreciation, with Livio eventually admitting (and apologizing for the fact) that he, unconsciously or not, forced Razlo to take abuse so that Livio himself would not recall it. Razlo meanwhile acknowledges that their body’s strength and their positions in the Eye were thanks to Livio’s efforts and dedication to training. When necessary, they can carry out internal conversations or even co-front, but Livio remains the host identity and fronts the overwhelming majority of time.
Pokémon Information Affiliation: Breeder Starter: Teddiursa Password: atomic fireball
Victory Road Sample: [The network gets a video displaying something that is likely familiar to every single viewer: a dreaded Ledge. Altogether, it looks unintimidating, a lovely short grass path just a few feet above another like it, likely on one of the earlier, calmer routes. The only thing out of place, really, is a man scratching his chin, staring at the shelf of rock like it’s some nigh impossible math problem.
The thing is, he’s huge. Taller than the ledge, even. He can literally peer over the top of it.
First, he lifts the Pokemon at his side, a particularly lethargic Teddiursa, and carefully places it atop the ridge. It promptly tumbles over the side and starts to slide back down, although its trainer catches it before it can sustain any injuries. This repeats once or twice, to the human’s mounting chagrin.
Now, he sets the bear cub on his shoulder and makes as if he’s going to climb the microscopic cliff as Teddiursa settles comfortably in his poncho. And once again, in spite of the high likelihood of him being able to uproot a tree with his bare hands judging by his muscle mass, he can’t keep a grip, and slips down the rocks. His brows furrow deeply as he motions with a hand to the top of the ledge, then to his own head, like one would compare heights.
His shoulders slump as he finally makes his way to the Gear, patting whatever Pokemon has been kind enough to record for him before picking it up and giving the camera an exasperated look.]

Character Name: Angel the Siren Series: Borderlands Timeline: Immediately Post-death Canon Resource Links:Here!
Personality: Angel began her time in the Borderlands universe as a pawn, a tool used by Handsome Jack to reach his goals. Under Jack’s eye, and trapped in the prison that would slowly become her death chamber, she had little agency of her own. Angel was driven by guilt, presumably over her mother’s death, and manipulated into believing that her father wanted what was best for both her and Pandora. With no other option, and no one else to turn to, she had no choice but to listen to Jack.
On the surface, Angel is an incredibly helpful. Whether or not it comes from her abilities, or perhaps from acquired knowledge, her experience with technology allows her to quickly unlock doors and allow for her allies to swiftly navigate the wilds of Pandora. Her days on Pandora usually consisted of helping wayward Vault Hunters and other souls on their missions. While Angel certainly does consider herself to be helpful in many ways, much of the work she did was far from selfless. Her guidance was a facade, one to further the goals of both her father and Hyperion.
Though she had no other options, she still holds herself accountable for what she did. Her machinations led to a great many deaths, many of which happened to those she might have considered her friends.
While it would be perfectly reasonable for Angel to excuse her behavior, at least given her lack of options, never once has she done so. It can be surmised that the same guilty conscience that kept her from refusing Jack is what led her to turn on him. In the end, Angel gave her life to make up for the damage she had caused by perpetuating his rise to power.
In spite of the trauma she has endured, there is still a level of childlike innocence to Angel, and an ability to see the positives in most anyone. While most of Pandora loathes the robot Claptrap, she considers him a “funny little robot.” Though she makes a few jabs at Scooter, she deeply respects his talents.
Despite her meek nature at times, and playful demeanor in others, when it comes down to it, Angel is also firm and unshakeable when she needs to be. During the last few minutes of her life, she does not hesitate to put Roland into his place, insisting he finish his duties and end her life. She is stalwart in the face of her death.
In speaking, even during times out from beneath Jack’s thumb, Angel still feels his influence. She often curbs her tongue, avoiding swearing and correcting herself whenever one does manage to make its way out. It is only fitting then that Angel’s final act of rebellion happened to be calling her father an asshole.
In the end, Angel's most prominent trait is her strength. Despite his every effort to manipulate Angel, to coerce her to his side and to make her believe in his genocidal wrath, Angel stood strong. Though she may have done a great deal of things she would come to regret, in the end, she died for what she thought was right.
Angel was strong enough to face death itself.

Mom isn't her Mom, but she's grown familiar enough that she even throws a hug around those shoulders before heading out.
Yes, her legs are weak. Yes, her mind still feels a little foggy. But for all intents and purposes, she is home.
A little tree is found before she hunkers down. She fishes around in her bag a few times before alighting on the Pokeball she's been offered.]
Okay, let's see what we have!
[She presses the button, and, well... Suffice to say, she doesn't expect quite as many teeth to pop out. She startles immediately, shrinking behind the tree before gradually easing out.]
Alright. This is... fine.
[Angel's tamed a raging Alpha Braviary once before. Surely she can manage a Mawile! She holds her hand out, palm up mind you, in an offering for the creature. Its maw brushes over her, before the creature turns and regards her with crossed arms. The two lock eyes for a moment, before the Pokemon seems appeased and settles down.]
See, not so bad. [She isn’t sure if she’s talking to herself, or the creature at this point. But either way, she keeps on rambling.] You probably know more about this world than even I do but… Let’s make sure we are both up to speed, alright? You and I are partners now. And hopefully we will get to be friends soon enough.
[The Mawile seems to chuff at this. Angel only laughs.]
Give it time. If nothing else, when we gather my team up once more, you will have plenty of creatures to compete with. And if that is not enough, Armin’s won the Pokemon League, so he has a whole team ready for you to fight.
[She does pause at that. Her brows pinch.]
He will still be here, don’t worry.
[The toothy maw of her new friend angles, as the creature’s head cocks. Angel quickly offers a reassuring smile.]
Like I said. Don’t worry. [For now, she rises up to her feet. Her arms extend to the sky as she carefully stretches out. Then she takes her first step back onto Route 29. The dirt crunches beneath her feet, a sensation that’s almost familiar. She takes a deep breath of the warm summer air, and then sets out.]
Alright, my new friend. Let’s see what this new journey holds.

If you were to walk past Henry, it would probably take you one or two more passes to actually notice him. He’d sooner be part of the furniture than be part of the party. Actually, he'd rather not be at a party at all. When he does brave the world outside his apartment, he prefers to simply stand back and take everything in as if he were watching a documentary. He is content to imagine conversations between himself and others or photograph them instead of approaching them. When important information needs to be shared, he has a war within himself and usually ends up staying silent. He means well, but doesn't always act on it. He's so prone to keeping his opinions to himself that even if he believes something totally different than you, he’ll usually smile his awkward, vacant smile and go along with it.
Henry often appears to space out, his mouth forming a grim, emotionless line. On the rare occasion he does decide to participate in conversation, his words often become non sequiturs. Mr. Townshend comes in two volumes: a near undecipherable murmur and a startling howl. The poor boy’s not 100% sure how to interact verbally and has problems judging where his inside and outside voice would best fit. His conversations rarely have ‘uhms’ or ‘ah’s’ in them. He’s to-the-point and may even come of as a little rude. His shyness can be mistaken for snobby artistic indifference.
There is one area where he expresses himself without restraint and that is his photography. Henry's photos mostly consist of what would be considered 'weird hipster photos that try too hard' but he can take nice portraits and landscape pictures as well. He used to travel often and take pictures to remember his trips but now he's become a homebody. He was always the one taking photos at family get-togethers.
When he’s not sight seeing and taking pictures, Henry likes reading old books he’s collected over the years, watching television, and having a good smoke. He likes those artsy films where nobody speaks any English or dubbed films. He doesn't have a problem with the voices and mouths not matching up because what he likes most is the way the films are shot and the way the scenes are framed.
Henry is a little lazy. While he grooms himself well enough (or at least well enough not to wrinkle the nose of passers by), he still appears very unkempt. He doesn't bother shaving his face every day or combing his hair or making sure his shirt is tucked in. He doesn't present himself to the world enough to feel the need to impress others. All of his clothing smells like smoke and since he never has visitors he's content to keep his home minimally stocked. A couple of lonely bottles of chocolate milk and wine were all that sat in his fridge for days while he gathered up the gumption to finally figure out why there were chains on his door.
Being thrown headfirst into adventure has put the drowsy homebody on edge. He was fast to give up pounding on his door and windows when the chains appeared but when a big creepy hole opened up in his bathroom he managed to suppress his fear of what he might find on the other side and climb on through. When he encountered the strangeness on the other side, Henry took it all in with a sort of numb awe. He went from crawling through a hole to a weird magical escalator? Okay. He even managed to have an entire conversation with the first person he met on the other side (something he considered a small self victory at the time) but that quickly went south when she was promptly murdered by a ghost. From then onward every new face brought new pain for Henry.
He was either afraid of them like the strange man in the coat or afraid for them like his neighbor Eileen or the mysterious little boy who is always a step ahead of him. Henry is a sensitive soul. He cares about the well-being of others and feels sorrow when presented with death--going so far as to close the eyes of a deceased person he had only known for a few hours.
Even though he isn’t terribly outgoing, it doesn’t mean he’s completely non-reactive. When given no route of escape, Henry will turn and fight with whatever he can find to protect whoever he is with. Chunks of wood, stray golf clubs, or even broken bottles (if they aren’t broken, he’ll break them) are snatched up and put to use right away. Henry eventually encounters weapons beyond broken pipes and shovels--some serious firepower! Even though he has absolutely no experience using them and terrible aim he tries his best anyway, ready and willing to take whatever the Otherwold hands him. The noise makes his ears ring and he recoils with every shot but he keeps collecting bullets.
He quickly loses any squicks he previously had about fighting after facing monster after monster. At first he approaches them at a cringe only to later walk into them swinging his pipe wildly, depending on all the balled up fear he has inside him to propel him through. He’s not afraid to touch scary statues or dead bodies. He doesn't crybaby about slamming his shoes down on bloated blood-sucking slugs or gigantic twitching two-headed baby monsters--and this surprises him. In fact every brave feat he accomplishes surprises him. By the end of his adventure he finishes off monsters with gusto--especially with the shovel. He tries not to let the feeling that he is falling prey to whatever strange grooming this world is imposing on him distract him from his mission but it does anyway. What is this place turning him into? Henry doesn't like change.
One such change being that he has discovered that the long empty halls and creaky bridges and foggy forests of Walter's other worlds have made him very lonely. Lonely! Henry Townshend doesn't get lonely. Henry spends as much time as possible alone. He becomes so starved for human interaction that he takes to watching his neighbor through a hole in his wall whenever he stops by his apartment even though he knows she can't hear him. The only reward he gets for that is a scary rabbit doll pointing accusingly at him. Maybe he deserves to be lonely. He's 21/21. Was all this happening just so this Walter guy could get to him?
He hoards information, having started an extensive paper pile/scrap book made from journal entries and newspaper clippings he has collected during his journey through Walter's other worlds. He is the Receiver of Wisdom as part of the sacraments and he plays his part fairly well. He spends hours wearily pouring over the clues Joseph left behind and sympathizes with him--especially the headaches. He inspects and gathers unusual trinkets he happens upon and quickly starts trying to fit them into the puzzle that his life has become. Anything that's oddly positioned or anything that seems out of place will grab his attention and no doubt wind up in his pockets.
He worries about the well-being of this safe haven. Though his research taught him how to keep the hauntings at bay he's not dumb enough to expect an endless stream of magic candles and necklaces. Besides Eileen, nobody else is going to help him. Every trip back to what he shakily called the "real world" became less and less anticipated as his once safe apartment started to mirror the gross worlds on the other side of the hole. He hates that his one safe place is being destroyed and that thought lights a tiny flame of anger in his chest. At one point he considered just hiding in the tunnels forever since they seemed to be the only places where nothing could attack him.
It was a selfish want though. Eileen couldn't crawl through those holes with him. She didn't even seem to be able to see them which worried him more than anything else. She fought the monsters alongside him. It puzzled Henry that she couldn't see something that barely stood out amongst all of the other weird things the two of them faced. At times Henry wondered if he had finally snapped from being stuck in his apartment. He entertained that thought in order to push onward until it sank in that it was The Receiver and damn it he was going to receive whether he liked it or not. Accepting the terrible things that were happening in front of him as reality instead of hiding behind the hope that he was hallucinating was deeply rattling. Again and again the thought of "Why me?" slammed down on him. He was never into any occult stuff and the only dealings he'd had with Silent Hill was thinking it was a nice place to take photos. It helped to have Eileen there, even if she couldn't see the holes. Misery loves company after all--even misery that gets queasy thinking about being at a party.

Character Name: Scar Series: Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 anime) Timeline: Time of canon death + time he spent in Victory Road several years ago (I don't have access to his old journal anymore, but I'll do my best to summarize his character development from in the game in the Personality section!) Canon Resource Links:Scar's page in the FMA wiki -- The FMA wiki is notoriously terrible, so if there's anything I can clarify, please let me know! There's some canon recap in my personality section because the plot summaries on the wiki aren't really presented with any helpful context or nuance.
Personality: Scar is a violently compassionate revolutionary who cast off much of his individual personhood in the pursuit of resistance against the genocidal military state under which he lives. His identity as an Ishbalan, an ethnic minority in the colonial empire of Amestris, is deeply important to him and colors everything he believes in and does, as do his extremely rigid personal values.
Scar is inclined to distrust anything that looks like magic. "Alchemy," in this universe's definition, is a magic system based on the principle of changing X into Y, so long as X is sufficiently close to Y in its elemental makeup. Depending on ethnic origin, characters may call alchemy science, although people in the eastern regions, such as where Scar is from, are less likely to characterize it as such. Ishbalans reject alchemy outright. Those who practice it are usually exiled from Ishbalan society, and this is also a source of cultural tension with western Amestris. Scar's own history with alchemy reifies his cultural instincts: Alchemy (and by extension, anything that looks like it) is unnatural and instills hubris in humanity.
Instability and isolation are the constants of Scar's life. His young adulthood is marked by two notably traumatic events, both heavily colored by alchemy. First, as a teenager, the death and subsequent botched alchemic resurrection of his brother's fiance, leading to his brother's exile and Scar's lifelong hatred for him. Second, as a young adult, the complete razing of Ishbal by the Amestrian state, made publically palatable by "preemptive" covert assassinations throughout the city-state and carried out by powerful alchemists in service of Amestris. His brother, who returned in the final hours claiming he could save them with the Philosopher's Stone (very powerful alchemy battery, created through human sacrifice), dies for Scar's sake, leaving the mountain of painful emotions between them unresolved, and Scar with the transmutation circle for his brother's Philosopher's Stone tattooed into his arm. The destructive power of his brother's arm becomes his weapon of choice in a personal one-man war first of revenge, later of justice, against the state of Amestris. He carries this difficult memory of his brother with him, still hating him for mutilating the woman he claimed to love with alchemy, but contradictorily desperate to have the opportunity to tell him how much he loved him in spite of everything.
Scar spends his 20's functionally alone, unhoused, unaware that any Ishbalans survived the massacre, and all the more poorly adapted to society because of it. He struggles to stay in one place for very long, and is prone to wandering. In canon, he is a notorious drifter, and all that matters to him is the cause of anti-Amestrian action. He ultimately dies for it, no longer even using his own name, because while he is certain he has acted as is necessary against the evil of the state, his use of violence and his brother's alchemy similarly doesn't belong in the nation of Ishbal. This in-between space, Ishbalan in heritage but living in self-prescribed exile, informs his difficulty forming ties with any place and any person. Now in his 30's and in a place untouched by the cultures and conflicts that defined his life, he struggles with aimlessness and frequently finds himself desperate for familiarity where there is very little. The complete isolation of home has followed him here. In the world of Pokemon, while he is technically a trainer, he doesn't assimilate with the culture of battling, and tends to keep them only as companion animals. He won't stop his Pokemon from behaving as they naturally do, but he doesn't have interest in competitive participation, or in settling disputes with Pokemon.
While his external presentation is stoic and grim, Scar doesn't try to mask how he feels about much of anything. He cares and feels with his full self. He is deeply emotional, and it makes him impulsive, usually to his detriment. While his lifetime has given him a harsh exterior and an unwillingness to ever justify himself to anybody, it has also bolstered his natural inclination for kindness toward those who have been touched by injustice, even if he is unlikely to give anyone a hug about it. He is kind, but he isn't nice. He's deeply, instinctively protective, even to his own bodily harm, especially of the places, Pokemon, and people who ground him. In many ways, he only knows how to express care through acts of service or sacrifice. This impulsivity and difficulty with closeness can be a poor combination in someone so life-weary; Scar can very often be self-destructive, slipping back into bad habits, losing his footing once he has finally managed to find work, or keep his own apartment. These are both things he still hasn't quite managed to do, the regular rhythms of day to day life very quickly overwhelming him with their unfamiliarity and his own guilt that he, of everyone, gets another chance to live. He struggles regularly with the deeply-held sentiment that he doesn't deserve to be here, living such an easy and charmed life, while so many others could not. This also rubber-bands back into the notion that he is wasting this opportunity by being uncertain of things that seem so easy for everyone around him.
In social situations, he often appears out of place and unsure of what to do with himself. If he shows up to a party at all, he's the type to seek out the food then make himself scarce. Historically, both in canon and in game, he's gotten along well with kids and teenagers, his straightforward way of communicating and strong moral center meshing well with people who are less likely to notice that he's out of place in most social situations. This isn't to say he doesn't form relationships with adults; he is just far more likely to distrust them. He does, however, fall into place very easily among social circles who have faced similar societal hardship. It's when he is able to drop his guard that he can fully realize how starved he is for community and connection, so he tends to form very close bonds with people who have lived similar experiences. Having Scar for an ally functionally means you have a personal bodyguard. He is usually an enigma to those just outside his inner circle of trust, where those inside have a very earnest and genuine perspective of who he is and how deeply he cares for the things that are important to him. This dissonance doesn't matter to him. If his best friend's other best friend hates him, he legitimately doesn't care.
Spending time in the world of Pokemon has very slowly forced Scar to confront the reality that he doesn't know how to be a person for himself. His sense of self is so dependent on his canon setting that he is adrift without it. Where I last left him, he was starting to understand this, but it will be a while yet until he is able to find his own footing in a world that isn't falling apart, that isn't trying to kill him, and that he doesn't have to save.

Victory Road Sample: Scar's waking in Mom's house had been the first sign that something was wrong. Amit was the only Pokemon with him, and she was adamantly refusing to leave his side. All but ejected into the easy wilderness paths of Route 29, his legs moving on their own to get him away from the overly friendly residents of New Bark Town as quickly as possible, he finally started to form complete thoughts through the fog.
This happened, sometimes. He knew this happened, sometimes.
He reached into his pocket, shuffling out his 'gear, and clicked on the lock screen.
That date had to be wrong.
He stared at the damning string of numbers, checked them, rechecked them, held his thumb over each individual digit so as to be absolutely certain he wasn't scrambling the order in which they appeared.
Seven years.
Every automatic system of Scar's body launched into protest at once. His knees turned to jelly, his throat closed, his innards roiled like a tube of toothpaste that was, thankfully for his rapidly diminishing dignity, empty. That would be his first and only triumph, today: Scar didn't throw up.
The contact page that flew open when his 'Gear unlocked was barren. No Alphonse, no Maka, no Wrath, no Greed... In order of their initials, there was Envy. Heather. Henry. And of course, so constant that he at first overlooked it, enshrined at the top of the list:
(ICE) Lust 🐱
This was, with very little question, a case of emergency, but let Scar never be accused of taking the pragmatic, level-headed response.
Unblinking, unbreathing, he yanked the battery of his 'Gear like it was a hot potato. In one fell motion, it plunked anticlimactically into the forest pond at his feet. Threat neutralized. The screen was blissfully, mercifully, blank. As the impulsivity of the action sank in, his stomach once again made a noble effort to empty itself. No dice.
At his heel, Amit made a somber chirp. Scar's eyes ripped away from his dead phone, now properly regarding his very first friend in this confusing, peaceful world for the first time since waking. His 'gear dropped from his fingers, landed harmlessly in the grass as Scar all but slouched to the ground. He reached for the Zangoose, his fingers digging into the coarse fur on top of her head. She pressed into it as he scratched between her ears, tears springing to his eyes unabated at the sound of her purr.
"How are you?" he asked around the egg in his throat. He received a tiny trill in response. The affectionate sound hummed straight through his shaken constitution, both a condemnation and a comfort.

Player Name: Mozart E-mail: inzivil @ gmail Preferred Contact: noctowl @ plurk Timezone: PST Current Characters in Victory Road: N/A, this is a re-app! This is the same journal I used when I played Botan before, too.
Character Name: Botan Series: Yu Yu Hakusho Timeline: Post canon (manga) + the years she spent in Johto Canon Resource Links:Here is actually quite an effective synopsis of the series and takes care to point out the differences between the anime and the manga, as Botan's role was rather expanded (if only slightly) in the anime, I can expand upon anything as needed.
Personality: A point has been made repeatedly that nobody knows much about Botan. Really. At all. Her coworkers seem to know about aspects of her personality, but basic little details like her blood type or her birth date seem to have been lost in the sands of time. She's secretive about herself and a lot of things concerning the Spirit World is what anybody would be able to pick up from her as a default impression. If they're really thinking about it. They're probably not, Botan's usually kicked that impression out of the way by being herself.
That doesn't mean she's unfriendly, one wouldn't really expect it from someone that's so secretive that even her author apparently doesn't know basic details about her, but she's quite open and friendly to most everyone (more than likely all, unless they are demons in the early part of the series). She likes to help them out as best she can, once they become her friends this increases twofold and her loyalty to them runs very deep (although anything she might be able to tell them is, as always, in conflict with her loyalties to the Spirit World, mostly Koenma. She'll often dodge the subject or have to have it be forced out of her if it's official Spirit World business or something Koenma is planning.)
Botan will often offer advice to them as well for the better (or at least what's better in her view, which is mostly "this will make you happy, you should go for it!" it's unknown if this is because she's been alive for so long and has seen the consequences of certain actions or lack of actions, but the way she speaks almost suggests such a thing) her penchant for helping others even extended to the spirits she would visit, even with Yusuke in tow in the early stages of the series (while he was dead).
Though sometimes she couldn't do much since it was against protocol and got flabbergasted with Yusuke for outright ignoring that and—for example—dragging off an attached spirit to "go have some fun" she eventually learns that Yusuke is An Exception to the Rule and is actually a much healthier influence for the souls of the deceased as well as living humans (much to his own surprise as well as the entirety of Spirit World's, apparently they never thought that a human would relate to another human most effectively, go figure). But that doesn't mean she just sat back with an "oh Yusuke" her exasperation with him never ends, even as time passes, their relationship can be compared to an older sister being annoyed with having to look after her little brother.
Things were often out of her hands in the beginning of the manga and though she disliked it, it was just how things were and she had to quietly accept it since non-human spirits such as herself weren't allowed to interfere with the affairs of humans. Indeed, they weren't even allowed to really interact with humans until they were dead, though Botan herself seemed to show an interest in doing so due to her own outgoing nature and endless fascination with the subtle ties between different human beings (read: being overly invested in their relationships like it's a daytime soap) and she integrates with humans easily, though she has a bit of trouble with not blabbing about Yusuke's exploits as the Spirit Detective in the beginning or things that she shouldn't have been witness to as a human but was as a spirit.
As time goes on, when people become more familiar with her and Yusuke's work as the Spirit Detective, there are less "hilarious misunderstandings" born from her slip of the tongue (though in the early stages she makes up stories in response to Yusuke saying that he doesn't want his close friends and mother to know about the Spirit Detective thing yet).
Botan has been shown several times to be self-sacrificing, though she doesn't put herself on a pedestal or remind people of the fact that she risked her neck for them, it's often her acting on instinct for the safety of her loved ones. Yeah, she gets scared, she has a sense of self-preservation if someone is directly threatening her, she doesn't want to piss off Hiei in particular, but she'll still get snippy and irritable with him if he's implying that he doesn't want to help one of their friends, especially not when they're in danger right at that very moment. She becomes more aware of the fact that there's no real thought behind this (literally) throwing herself in the way of something dangerous for others, sometimes for people she doesn't even know that well, but realizes are good people and need to be protected.
Her other friends make the comment that she's "tough" and she'll recover from whatever trauma was sustained from the act; not just physically, Botan has often had to bounce back mentally from things that take a toll on her emotions (which as I've mentioned before are actually very very delicate). Though in the beginning she hides herself away when she's upset so her friends don't have to see something as simple as her crying, they catch onto it anyway and reassure her that it's okay, she can be upset all she wants and lean on them for support (this was a conversation between herself and Shizuru after she took Genkai's soul to the afterlife). Needless to say, she was touched by the sentiment and though a situation like that didn't happen again, presumably she took the advice to heart.
Botan doesn't often distrust anyone outright (the opposite, in fact, she usually greets them with a howdy doo or the Japanese equivalent and treats them like an old friend), though in the beginning she defaulted to thinking demons were harmful to humans and the Spirit World as a whole, due to the deception and manipulation of King Enma. Having everything turned upside down like that when they found out the whole scandalous secret was shocking, but she ultimately stuck with Koenma and Yusuke, supporting them throughout the various trials without a single second guessing of herself even if the head of all of this chaos is the king of the underworld. She believes in Yusuke and she believes in Koenma, as they are her friends and very important companions to her, that's all she needs to go out on a limb and do something ridiculously risky for all reasons.
As things ended up way more peaceful in the end, she seemed a lot more relaxed (a feat for someone that already acted carefree), actually appearing in the living realm in her human form more often to spend time with Yusuke and their friends. The jury's out on if she became more open about the doings of the Spirit World, about 100+ years of habit might be a little hard to break even for someone as adaptable as Botan. This isn't to say that she's as cagey as before, no, Botan's as upbeat and optimistic as ever--being an observer of her friends' happiness as always and enjoying it whilst pushing it along as much as she's able to.
Since being in Johto, Botan has gone through a couple of changes that are absolutely horrifying: the act of being human and having to deal with love, loss, heartbreak, mortality, her own transient nature as a spirit and feeling like an intruder in a peaceful human life, feeling frightened and tricked by her own memories in comparison to her friends' (which was actually a simple anime continuity versus manga continuity problem, not that she ever figured that out on such a meta level). She confronted her own desires and wants as a newly-minted human, especially with regard to romance since she comes from a world that's more "behind" as far as humanity's attitude towards sexuality is concerned (the Earth of YYH can be argued to be set in the 90s).
She started thinking about...herself and what she wants for once (the horror) rather than pushing herself down and diminishing her problems. She began to not be so secretive about what's bothering her, became angry when she felt like it (though she still apologized later for acting in the moment). She's had to confront feelings of loneliness more often, too, but weathered them to the best of her (human) ability. She's still a supportive and loving person, heck she's actually been referred to as a "mom" more than once, though it makes her cry with sentimental feelings every time (that still has not changed, Botan is Botan after all). Botan is not just observing humans anymore, she is one, and it makes her abundantly happy, without feeling guilty about duties she should be fulfilling.
-The highly unnecessary sum up that I still did anyway of her strengths and weaknesses:
+ Wisdom! You wouldn't think so just by looking at her, but Botan is actually quite wise to the ways of feelings and romance (although as is often the case, some of her more unwise actions and statements contradict this) + Optimism! She gets knocked down, but she gets up again. It's pretty impossible to break her hope and cheeriness. + She can talk to animals. Yes really. To be fair to that, in the universe of YYH animals have a more sensitive sixth sense than humans do. In Johto this transferred as her being able to speak with Pokemon (not that the Pokemon always spoke back to her, she wasn't gonna force them). + Loyal! Even if she's not strong and even if she's being threatened with death, Botan's loyalty remains undaunted.
- Botan can be...kind of...really annoying, and a bit of a know-it-all by virtue of her literally being hundreds of years old and very in tune with humans. She used to actively observe and study them like she was in a zoo until she, uh, cut that out, but her chipper invasively friendly personality remains. - Very, very sensitive. As explained in her personality. She'll cry or get upset over something when pushed too much and sometimes it results in her isolating herself to avoid anyone seeing her crying. - Cagey. She's working on it, but it's still her instinct to hide things about herself and something that she feels is important to hide. - Blabbermouth. Yes, this is considered a weakness as Botan LOVES to talk, she loves it. What she doesn't love is realizing she's about to say something she shouldn't and getting nervous. She'll try to cover it up. She'll often fail. It's weird. It's awkward. It's Botan.
Pokémon Information Affiliation: Breeder Starter: Greavard Password: Atomic Fireball
Botan had been watching the Greavard that was now her companion for the past 30 minutes.
What she was able to observe was that it enjoyed running around in circles.
Looking at her 'gear, she was able to figure out that "it" was actually a "he", not that Greavard stood still long enough for her to get much of a word in.
"Well, I have to give you a name," she says to herself before whistling to get the attention of Greavard.
He stops, tail wagging eagerly, and comes to her, mouth open wide and unnaturally long tongue lolling.
Supposedly, according to the dex entry, just being around Greavard would slowly drain the life from whatever it's in the presence of.
Botan doesn't see that as she looks down at the Pokemon, she sees an excited, happy creature. She hears him panting over and over again: "friend! Friend! Friend! Be my friend? I'll be a good friend! I'm a good boy! I'm a friend!" She sees his tail wagging and thinks of the rumors persisting that Greavard are the reborn spirits of dogs that were lonely, without human companions.
That is ultimately her job, even if she's a human, isn't it? She takes care of lonely spirits. Most would groan at still having to do their jobs even when in another world...she's not one of those people. Being a friendly face to keep someone that's inherently lonely company was the best part of her job as a guide to the afterlife.
Botan kneels, holding out her hands for Greavard to sniff (which he does so with gusto, in addition to licking with an oddly cold tongue). "There there, good boy...good boy. I'm your trainer. My name is Botan. Are you all right with battling? I won't ask you to if you don't want to. I'm a Breeder, so I won't have to do it much--"
The Greavard interrupts, standing up on his hind legs in an attempt to jump up onto Botan. "Yeah-yeah-yeah--I'll battle! Battle-play-battle--Botan. Good. Friend. Pretty. Smells nice."
She smiles a little crookedly down at the sweet Pokemon. "All right, all right, good boy...good boy. Why don't I name you...Houta."
朋太. It's not themed after ghosts or flowers, like she did before, and regardless of what she says the meaning is, Houta seems happy to be given a name, now hopping up and down even more so, his whole backside wiggling along with his tail wagging.
"Houta! Me! I'm Houta, me! Friend! Big friend!"
Botan giggles, scratching her fingers deep into Houta's fur under his chin. "Yes, that's right! Houta--big friend!"
Technically the kanji read as "friend" and "thick" or "fat" in addition to "big" but...he seems so happy, she's not going to take that away from the little guy.
"We're home, Houta...this is our home. We've got a lot of friends to take care of, all right?"
"Lots of friends! SO many friends! Me, Houta, me, I'm happy!"

Character Name: Bo-Katan Kryze Series: The Mandalorian Timeline: End of Season 3 Canon Resource Links: “Bo-Katan is a cautionary tale. She once laid claim to rule Mandalore based purely on blood and the sword you now possess. But it was gifted to her and not won by Creed. Bo-Katan Kryze was born of a mighty house, but they lost sight of the way.” - The Armorer
Personality: Born a princess on Mandalore, Bo-Katan is not your typical pampered royal. From a young age, when she took the creed, she was trained as a warrior. Full of grit and tough as nails, she’s highly skilled in combat and is a natural leader. Though after the death of her father there was a split in her family during the Mandalorian civil war. Causing a rift with her pacifistic sister while Bo-Katan insisted in keeping to her warrior heritage. This led her to joining a terrorist group known as Death Watch where she was highly aggressive in their pursuits to take back Mandalore. She committed many atrocities in the name of her people and the loyalty she had for their leader, Pre Vizsla.
However, all this began to change when Pre Vizsla was defeated and slain by Maul. Refusing to follow an outsider, she and her loyal followers split off from Death Watch. Bo-Katan freed her captured sister and made up with her, only to lose her to Maul as well not long after. Unable to defeat Maul’s forces, it was with much trepidation that enlisted the help of the Jedi. They prevailed, with Bo making friends with Ahsoka Tano as well. She then became ruler of Mandalore, though it was only for a short time as the Jedi fell not long after and the Empire seized control.
Above all else, her loyalty is to her people. Everything she does is for them and she spent many years trying to bring them together. Though she has lamented thar she wished she was good at something other than war. Bo-Katan did make this happen she was given the darksaber by Sabine Wren. Only to have tragedy strike afterward. The Empire bombing Mandalore in the Night of a Thousand Tears. She had desperately tried to stop the slaughter of her people by surrendering and giving the darksaber to Moff Gideon. However, it did no good as he killed them anyway. With Bo losing friends, allies, the last of her family, and countless other Mandalorians. This devastated her and to this day she blames herself for the genocide of her people.
With her people scattered, she led what few followers she had left through other parts of the galaxy. She plotted her revenge and struck imperial transports with her forces. Stealing ships and the cargo they had in order to provide for her people and to hopefully one day get back what was rightfully hers. Bo wishing to restore her honor by reclaiming the darksaber from Gideon. Which became something of an obsession. She also at some point learned of the Children of the Watch, which followed the ancient Mandalorian Way. Something she scoffed at as she was very cynical regarding the ancient religion of their ancestors.
When her path crossed with that of Din Djarin’s, she was tolerant of him but also used him to help her in her endeavor to get back the darksaber. There were few lengths she wouldn’t go to, to get back the symbol of leadership which she thought would help her reunite her people again and reclaim the destroyed Mandalore. However, when she teamed up with Din to get back Grogu, and the darksaber, the unthinkable happened. Din rescued his kid while also defeating Gideon which made him the rightful owner of the darksaber. Despite Din’s attempts to give her the darksaber, Bo-Katan refused. She could not accept it as a gift a second time as it was believed her people had been cursed when she did the first time. The weapon needing to be won in combat. She would not have the respect of her people if she made the same mistake twice. However, she also refused to fight Din for it as he had become an ally.
Parting ways with Din, Bo-Katan returned to her family home on Kalevala. Since she came back without the darksaber, her followers abandoned her. Leaving her alone to sink into despair for at least a couple years. She had hit her lowest point. Being rejected by everything and everyone she cared about, and unable to do anything about it. Her planet destroyed, her family gone, and her people no longer wanting her. It wasn’t until Din showed up again, asking to join her, that she would undergo her greatest change.
At first she turned Din away with her bitter hopelessness. No longer able or caring to restore her homeworld. She wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Which he did. Except when he went to Mandalore himself, Din found himself in trouble and sent Grogu to get her help. Upon realizing there was something wrong she immediately felt guilty for letting Din go to the inhospitable planet. Thus she sprang into action and went to rescue him, which she was able to do by taking the darksaber and defeating the creature that had captured Din. Once he recovered, Bo took Din to the Living Waters he sought in order to redeem himself. It was during their walk that they had a moment of bonding. Moved by Din’s respect for her father despite her cynicism. Again she scoffed at the idea of the Living Waters being a mythosaur lair, a creature of legend long thought to be extinct. However, when Din fell into the waters and she jumped into save him, she actually saw one of the elusive beasts. This moment becoming pivotal as she now wondered if there was something to those old stories. Leading her to begin questioning what she believed.
Following her rescue of Din, they returned to Kalevala only to come under attack which led to her family’s castle being bombed. Now having truly lost everything and with no where else to go, she followed Din to the planet his culvert was living on. It was there that she was allowed to join the culvert. Leaving Bo stunned and amazed that a people she had ridiculed were so willing to accept her when her own followers readily abandoned her. Thus she learned their ways and followed them, her cold and bitter demeanor softening. Her loyalty rekindled as she did her best to pull her weight, even going so far as to rescue one of their foundlings. It was then she earned their respect.
All of this culminated to a point where the Armorer, the leader of the culvert, decided it was time that their peoples be reunited. Tasking Bo-Katan with this and allowing her to remove her helmet, which was taboo by their faction, saying that she had now walked both paths and needed to go back to her own faction. It was with doubt and uncertainty that she sought them out with Din’s help. How could she win back their respect without the darksaber? Once she did face them, she defeated the factions current leader. When Din’s honor was put into question she defend him, only to have him give her back the darksaber in return. At first she refused, but Din said he was giving it back to its rightful owner as she had defeated the enemy who had defeated him. This was acceptable to the faction and they once again pledged their loyalty to Bo-Katan.
With that she brought her followers back to the culvert and proposed plan to take back their homeworld. It would be a tenuous alliance between the two factions that didn’t like each other. Each having to earn the respect of the other that wouldn’t be without infighting. The darksaber being the only thing Bo had to keep them together, or so she thought. It would be Din who would admit that the weapon meant nothing to him or his people, and that her honor, loyalty, and character was the reason why he followed her. He also pledged to serve her for the rest of her life. Something that deeply touched Bo-Katan and was the moment she realized she had feelings for Din. It would be with his help and the others that they would reclaim Mandalore after a drawn out battle with Gideon and the imperial remnant forces he kept there. The darksaber also being destroyed in the process. It was then that Bo’s honor was restored as well as her position as leader of Mandalore and its rebuilding. Her story of endless tragedy being turned to one of triumph.
