A blast of cool lobby air greets you as the glass doors to Silph Co. slide open...

The first floor of the building is elegant and polished, a sprawling plane of shiny tile and tasteful decorative plants. Employees in sharp white uniforms bustle through occasionally, but it's clear that the company's main business takes place on the floors above, blocked off by stern-looking guards.

Fortunately, before you can wander off and end up... who-knows-where, you are beckoned over by a cheery receptionist.

"Welcome! Hello!"

She stands at a counter, two stacks of paper and a cup full of complimentary Silph Co. pens set neatly on top. A screen behind her rotates through a series of photos; some of Type: Nulls engaged in amazing battles, but also some featuring Type: Nulls in various homey situations... playing fetch with their trainer, tugging a rope toy around with a Growlithe, cuddled up against a family's young child...

"You must be here for our Type: Null programs." She gestures at both the stacks of paper. "Are you here for our Beta-Tester Program or our Adoption Program? Please make sure you fill out the correct paperwork!"

Regardless of which program you are here for, there is a lot of red tape to go through. Thankfully, the employee is there to answer your questions and point out any fine print with a beaming smile. Another employee, meanwhile, fetches you something to drink and registers your Trainer ID number.

All that glitters...
You're a registered Pokemon trainer, hoofing it down the road with nothing but your backpack and your trusty team. Night is falling and it's just about time to make camp. Your mouth is already watering thinking of the hot dogs you brought with you, and judging by the way your Pokemon keep looking up at you expectantly as they walk, they're thinking of the exact same thing. One campfire later, you're all enjoying dinner under the stars.

The grass nearby rustles. You sit up to pay attention, but you're not too worried. You're familiar with all the wild Pokemon in this area and there's nothing too gnarly-- but wait a minute.

What's that sparkling on the edge of the fire-light? It looks like a species you recognize, but it's... different...

Comment below using the following form to request an encounter with a wild, shiny Pokemon!

FAQ:

WHAT ARE SHINIES?

Shiny Pokemon are extremely rare color morphs (sort of the fantasy equivalent of albino or melanistic animals), usually sporting a sparkly luster to their coat, scales, or skin! Some colorations are more dramatic than others; some species go from yellow to radioactive green, while others are nearly impossible to tell apart from their normal counterparts outside of the glitter!

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

For each request, the mods will use an algorithm to determine what Pokemon, based on the rarities of those available in the area, the character will run into!

WHY CAN'T WE PICK?

There are several other ways to obtain a specific shiny (events will sometimes offer a shiny egg of your choice, or you could collaborate with a breeder character to try for a specific species), and we wanted this one to not only reflect a little of the surprise factor from the video games, but also have a chance of introducing shinies into the game's collective Pokemon pool that might not have otherwise occurred to anybody to pick!

HOW OFTEN CAN I REQUEST A SHINY?

You may make a request once every four months!

CAN I ASK FOR A RE-ROLL IF I DON'T LIKE WHAT I GOT?

No, sorry! Think of this like a Shiny Gachapon-- you never know what you'll get! You may absolutely make your next request in the same location if there was one you really wanted, and we won't give you the same Pokemon twice-- but nothing is guaranteed!

CAN MY BREEDER/ROCKET CHARACTER REQUEST A SHINY?

No, this is a Trainers-only perk! Wild shiny Pokemon are incredibly rare and elusive, and only seem to be drawn to the mysterious potential of Trainers.

Breeders and Rockets have their own ways of obtaining shinies; Breeders may breed for them, and Rockets who request advanced, personalized missions may find themselves rewarded with one!

CAN MY CHARACTER CATCH RAGEY FROM THE LAKE OF RAGE?

Maybe if they're very, very lucky. But probably not. In fact, almost definitely not.

Whether they've been around for weeks, months, or years, sometimes it's inevitable: these otherworldly visitors will go home, leaving their new life behind, and with it, their Pokemon.

Frequently, it's left to the friends and family of the departed trainer-- or sometimes just charitable acquaintances-- to take in at least a few of the remaining 'mons... but sometimes they wind up leaving, too. Just what happens to the displaced Pokemon who lost their original trainer and no longer have anywhere to go? Whether they spent some time being bounced from new trainer to new trainer first or just returned to the wild alone right away, for years it was unknown just where they went.

... Until now.

The sometimes-transient nature of these extradimensional visitors hasn't gone unnoticed by the natives of this world, particularly a local family on Route 8 in Kanto, just west of Lavender Town: a young couple who couldn't fathom the heartache of either a stray Pokemon pining alone for its long lost trainer, OR a person vanishing and suddenly returning only to find their dear partners missing, possibly never to be seen again.

It took some years and what seemed like an endless amount of work for their dreams to become a reality, but with passion, dedication, and no small amount of help from both the Lavender Town Pokemon Center and their close relative, the famous Mr. Fuji, they've finally done it.

Welcome to Forever-and-a-Day Ranch, the Forever Home for Displaced Pokemon!

To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause...

Human beings have been training Pokemon as long as anyone in this world can remember. Battling, breeding, coordinating, even crime... it all comes down to the ancient, oft-considered-sacred bond between man and 'mon. Hopeful children dream of the day when they'll receive (or even better, catch themselves!) their first Pokemon. Successful battlers can go from not being known from Adam to becoming minor local celebrities, to having the entire world's eyes on them while they rise through the ranks of the Pokemon League. While working with these wonderful creatures has branched off over time into a few more specialized categories, the most common, tried-and-true category that folks fall into is simply... Trainer.

Every challenge along the way, with courage I will face... )

I will battle every day, to claim my rightful place! )

What... you thought the Pokemon world was all sunshine and friendship lessons? Think again!

New Trainers and Breeders will find they haven't been here long before starting to hear whispers of the nefarious criminal organization known as Team Rocket, responsible for everything from running shady business operations involving Magikarp and Slowpoketails to ambushing unlucky travelers and stealing their Pokemon!

But some people may find themselves being introduced to Johto and Kanto's seedy underbelly much sooner than the others... because while most "otherworlder" folks wake up in quaint little New Bark Town before setting out on their Pokemon journey, some will come to in a distinctly less welcoming venue: Team Rocket's secret headquarters in Goldenrod City.

Congratulations! You've been drafted into the coolest, most kickass, ain't-nobody-gonna-mess-with-us team ever!

Prepare for trouble! )

Welcome, valued Team Rocket member! Pursuing a career in the greatest organization of all time, eh? Well, you're in the right place!

This is the hub where you will find information on all team Missions. As stated in the Code of Conduct, all Rocket agents must be available to accept at least one mission at all times. They won't all be glamorous or exciting, but even mopping floors in one of the bases can lead to greater things! Team Rocket offers work in a variety of fields, with the primary openings being in four specific categories: maintenance, field work, science, and of course, the goal of most aspiring agents, leadership.

  • Maintenance: Brand new agents will likely be handed these jobs before anything else, as they're the easiest and least likely to result in police attention if you screw them up! They can include things like janitorial and laundry work in the bases, or serving fellow agents in the cafeteria.
  • Field Work: The most common missions take place in the field! Theft (whether it's as small as shoplifting some Potions or as big as participating in a full-scale heist) falls into this category, as does the simplest available mission, Pokemon acquisition. Anything you do to benefit the team outside of official Rocket premises can be considered field work!
  • Science: Science mission work mostly takes place out of the public eye, in official Rocket laboratories. The perfect field for more technically-minded agents, these jobs can include anything from pioneering new technology to experimentation on Pokemon themselves. Or it can be as dull as data entry. Grab a lab coat and see what you get!
  • Leadership: Getting sick of sharing those dorms? How does a private helicopter sound? Agents with lofty aspirations and a good work ethic may advance through the ranks and claim authority for themselves, earning swanky privileges, and more underlings to boss around than you can shake a stick at. This isn't to say that higher status doesn't come with its own responsibilities-- "Privates" and "Betas" are still expected to accomplish other missions (though usually not the maintenance ones-- that's grunt work), and even "Alphas" will usually work in the field. 'Leadership' jobs can even include tasks that just happen to require both specialized skills and a certain amount of trustworthiness to the Team. The main difference is tackling missions from an organizational, independent-thinking standpoint rather than just following orders-- YOU'RE the boss now!! Go put the fear of Arceus in some new recruits!

  • Your mission, if you choose to accept it... )
