    Character
    Name: Walter Sullivan
    Series: Silent Hill
Timeline: Shortly before the final Boss Fight
    Canon Resource Links: http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Walter_Sullivan

Personality: Walter has a shy, calm demeanour that hides a twisted loneliness and hatred towards humanity. Raised in isolation and abused by the cult of Silent Hill, he is extremely devout to their teachings and religion. For the vast majority of his life he was never shown any kindness or love and taught that humanity is nothing but cruel and sinful. As a result of this he has trouble feeling empathy towards others. He also has a sense of self-righteousness above others and, due to his beliefs that the deaths of his victims will cleanse the world of sin, has no sense of remorse. Despite this, he doesn't show any hatred or resentment towards Henry and Eileen and is even soft-spoken and polite; possibly because of their roles (as the Mother Reborn and Receiver of Wisdom) or simply because he doesn't see a reason to hate them. Their murders aren't intended to be personal, only a required step to complete the 21 Sacraments ritual.

His stoic appearance hides many of his more prominent emotions, although he sometimes does slip. At heart he is a heartbroken and lonely child, reflected in how his created Otherworlds are nightmarish reflections of real places, full of monsters representing people and creatures he's met and reflecting his view of the world around him. There is even a projection of his boyhood self, little Walter, that roams these worlds revealing his youthful innocence and deep-seated desire to be with his mother again. He laughs when Henry attacks him (something he continues to do during their final confrontation, no matter how close he is to being defeated), presumably amused by the outburst of emotion. He also laughs occasionally when chasing Henry and Eileen, seeing it as a 'game' to hurry them onwards.

Walter is nothing sort of devoted to his cause and displays some methodical tendencies despite the brutal nature of his murders; no matter how his first victims died, he always made sure their hearts were left untouched so he could surgically remove them for the ritual and picked each of his post-suicide victims for a reason. However he is deeply misogynistic as his female victims are often brutalised and horrifically maimed - a point that is especially noticeable in the death of young twins Billy and Miriam, as Billy was killed in one blow while Miriam was hacked apart. It can be implied that he waited two years to see if Henry would be a suitable 'Receiver of Wisdom' and thus, be the final Sign for the ritual.

Due to being nearly bitten by one, Walter has a strong fear of dogs and canines. This won't stop him from attacking one that gets in his way.

Strengths: Walter is exceedingly calm and always polite, even towards his intended victims are they fight against him or disregard him as an insane serial killer. He even speaks to them in an affable manner, maintaining a pleasant demeanour which can become a little eerie.

A patient man, he has no problem waiting for the right time and place to strike or to put his plans into motion. He managed to chase a victim to New Mexico and watched Henry for two years before deciding he would be his 'Receiver of Wisdom' and locking him in his room.

Even before death he was strong, capable of beating one of his victims to death, and versatile in his methods.Whether these weapons are improvised or chosen beforehand, he's used a variety of means to dispatch those in his way and his Sacraments, even using ironic or meaningful methods for certain individuals. In combat he can be ruthless, uncaring of the injuries he takes if he can take down his target first.

It's implied that he studied medicine, as he was a university student before his murder spree and was able to expertly cut out his victims hearts and stitch up the wound.

Weaknesses: Walter has trouble feeling remorse or empathy and struggles with caring for or about others. He simply doesn't understand and, after being treated cruelly for the vast majority of his life, he doesn't know how to be truly kind. When shown the only act of kindness in his life; a young Eileen giving him a doll while he was homeless; he cried. This also led to him choosing Eileen to be the 'Mother Reborn' of his Sacraments. Being the only person to ever be nice to him, it would make sense to choose her as the 'mother' figure of his sacrifices.

He's a devout believer in the religion of the Order; a cult that teaches that humans are cruel, selfish sinners by nature and that the world must be purged of it's evil by a God born from suffering, who will lead them to Paradise. This makes him distrustful and sees other people as filthy sinners - members of the Order were taught that they alone knew the path to righteous, also giving him a sense of superiority over others.

It's hinted that he is vaguely aware of the Order's lies about room 302 being his sleeping mother. But a lifetime of belief, enforced with isolation, beatings and abuse, is hard to overcome and would mean sacrificing everything he has done in his life, leaving him with nothing.

    Had he done something wrong?

Walter couldn't understand. He had been waiting with the Eileen, the Mother Reborn, for Henry, Receiver of Wisdom, the very last of the 21 Sacraments...only to black out and awaken in a dark room on a firm bed. The blood stains from his neck and clothing gone, his skin whole and his heart - his heart beating strongly, pumping blood around his body. He was alive. The letter had told him what he needed to know and given brief descriptions of the pokemon given to him.

He ignored all the people milling past, ignored the rustling of trees and the wild Pokemon that ran past, lost in his mind. He was sat on a bench in a park, breathing deeply and taking in the sensation of being alive again. He registered that he could feel the breeze again after a decade of death, that he was clean so his hair didn't fall in slick ropes but a soft curtain, blocking passers-by from seeing his eyes. He couldn't complete the Sacraments. He didn't know where Mother was. He was alive. Why?

Why was he here? Was this the Paradise he had hoped to achieve? Was it a gift from Mother, to give him life and these creatures to do his bidding in a new world?

It couldn't be. The black bird (a Murkow, the 'Darkness Pokemon') indulged in collecting anything that glittered and was known to thieve for gold. The little skull-wearing creature (Cubone, the 'Lonely Pokemon') was an orphan, forcibly separated from it's mother and mournfully crying out for her even as it wore her skull. What Paradise would have such creatures? One that induced suffering with it's greed, the other... the Cubone was currently on his lap, letting him inspect it with a quiet, shy demeanour. It really didn't like when he tried to touch under the skull it wore - he felt under it's rim and then left it be.

Team Rocket, whoever they were, wanted him to work for him. He could do that. Until he found his bearings, found out why he was here and how to get back - back to his worlds, back to Mother, back to his Sacraments - he could obey. There was a reason he was called to this place. He would find it, eliminate it, and move on. Even if it meant purifying this world of it's sins, he would do it. Anything to be reunited with Her.

Walter gave the Cubone in his lap a smile. So much like him as a child, openly crying for his Mom. But it would grow strong. He had checked what his Pokemon would be become, looked up whatever information he could to familiarise himself with what they would be capable of. "Sorrow and cruelty is a part of life." He spoke to it softly, like a parent teaching a child, letting it look up at him with wide, innocent eyes. "You will know this in time." He rubbed a finger over it's skull, before picking it up under his arm and walking towards the Rocket's building.

    Character
    Name: Mason "Dipper" Pines
    Series: Gravity Falls
    Timeline: End of series
    Canon Resource Links: Here

    Personality:
Dipper Pines is not the average 13 year old that you would expect to meet. A born adventurer at heart, this boy once wanted to find out all the mysteries, and might still, of the town of Gravity Falls.

Dipper is a rather intelligent young man. Puzzles are not much of a challenge to him, such as when he and his friends look for the proof of the Northwest family's not being the founders of Gravity Falls and solved several puzzles to find the true founder. There are things that are still above his intellect, such as the what-the-heck-ahedron puzzle he tries to solve in “Little Gift Shop of Horrors”, which he can’t solve no matter how hard he tries. He displays a high level of academic intelligence when he is able to complete complex math equations in a short amount of time to create the perfect angle in which to throw a ball to win a prize in “The Time Traveler’s Pig”. This intelligence goes hand-in-hand with his resourcefulness, which is displayed when he kicks a shelf that has The Journal on it since he was unable to reach it in “Little Dipper.” He has also shown his ability to outwit others, such as when he beats Bill Cipher, the powerful dream demon at his own game inside Stan’s dreams by using his own imagination as a weapon. Dipper lets the others know that they can make whatever they think of become reality, and demonstrates this by using laser vision, and in the end they chase Bill out of Stan’s dreams. He is also rather genre-savvy, knowing that in most movies people don’t have enough cameras or that they malfunction, he brings 17 disposable cameras just in case in the episode featuring the Gobblewonker.

He can be very self-conscious, such as when he is confronted about the fact that the likes to sing the song “Disco Girl.” This makes him want to prove that he is anything but manly, so he sets off to take down the Multi-Bear as the Manotaurs tell him to do. Dipper was later told by Stan that standing up for what he thought was right made him a man, even if the Manotaurs would think otherwise. He takes this compliment to heart since Stan doesn’t give those to him too often. When it comes to the question of his intelligence, if something is beyond his grasp, he gets frustrated, such as when he can’t figure out the puzzle toy in “Little Gift Shop of Horrors”. Instead of trying again, Dipper instead gets a mushroom that will enhance his intelligence instead of solving the puzzle the good old fashioned way. His height can be a trigger, such as when he became the shorter between the twins due to a small growth spurt on Mable’s part, which caused him to become jealous and insecure since she teased him about being the superior twin. He reacts by trying to find a magical way to become the taller one. In order to seem cooler to Wendy, he lies about being 13 so he can spend time with her outside of the Mystery Shack, which leads to the group of teens and the twin’s ending up inside of a haunted convenience store looking for some fun.

Since finding the journal and reading its contents, Dipper is paranoid and has trust issues when the journal warned him to Trust No One, and to be skeptical about people and/or situations. The first time this is shown is after he receives the journal and meets Mabel’s new boyfriend, Norman. He distrusts Norman from the get go, and even though he thought the teen was a zombie, his fears still turned to be validated as Norman was actually a collection of gnomes. His paranoia was at its all time high when trying to bust Mabel out of her Mabeltown prison, something that Bill had made for her, and actually manages to use it to help everyone bust out.

Dipper can be selfish at times, and is not above using the mysterious things happening in Gravity Falls to his advantage. A prime example is when he uses a time device to change the timelines so he wouldn’t hit Wendy with the ball when he was trying to win her a prize at the fair in order to impress her. When he did finally manage to make things go perfectly so Wendy would spend the day with him, he refused to listen to Mabel’s pleas about changing time so she could win Waddles instead of the pig going to Pacifica. Dipper gives up his chance to spend time with Wendy, reversing time and letting Mabel win Waddles the pig, which was a win-win situation for them both in the end, Mabel sending Waddles to attack Robbie, Wendy’s boyfriend, for Dipper.

Despite having the right motivations and doing the right things, Dipper can be rather ruthless and temperamental in order to accomplish his goals. He has displayed such a tendencies even with his sister, Mabel, such as when they got into a fight over who got the new room. Since they had switched bodies, he tries to ruin her reputation with their Grunkle Stan in order to get what he wanted. When they do get their bodies back, and he does indeed have the room, Dipper finds that the prize isn’t what he thought it would be. That same night, he moves back into the shared room with Mabel, since he missed her, and gives the room to Soos instead.

Even with all these things in his life, Dipper is compassionate, and he loves his family dearly, and his friends as well. His twin sister Mabel is the one person he would never want out of his life, reaffirming that to her when he tells her that he will never fight with her the way that Stan and Ford did in the past. She is near constant companion in his quest to solve all the mysteries in Gravity Falls, even if his claims seemed ridiculous, like the time he thought her boyfriend was a zombie. He does love his Grunkle Stan, even when Stan says he doesn't in a dream sequence Dipper overheard while in the search of Bill. Later, when he comes across the sequence again, Dipper finds out that his grunkle does indeed love him, and just has a very strange way of showing it. This makes him happy, though the criticism does still irritate him even if it’s out of love to toughen him up. Dipper does not seek to impress his Grunkle, merely wanting to be accepted as a serious man, as seen in the episode when his manliness comes into question. Even with the hiccups between them, Soos, the maintenance guy for the Mystery Shack, is a friend Dipper knows he can rely on in dire times, as long as Dipper doesn’t see him as an obstacle, like in the episode “Land before Swine”. Soos manages to ruin a good shot of the pterodactyl by opening the dark room’s doors while Dipper was developing film, and later when Soos uses his constant optimism to try and cheer Dipper and Mabel up, he gets into a fight with Dipper when the younger man loses his temper. They make up later in the episode, and become “Pterodactyl bros”. Wendy is his long time crush, and even when she lets him down gently about his feelings for her, she is still one of his steadfast friends. These are the few people whom he trusts, even if the journal says not to, and whom he can depend on in the long run. They do things to drive him crazy, like not listening to him when he tells them to hit the switch to the portal that Stan had built in the basement to stop it, making him angry with them, but they mean well in the end. He is also shown willing to sacrifice his life for his sisters in many instances, including in their battle against Bill during Weirdmagedon.

After all is said and done, Dipper is a kid who knows how to have fun, even if his version of fun is seeking out the mysteries of the town called Gravity Falls. Despite him and Mabel having to go home at the end of the series, he is thrilled about going back the next summer to find out more.

    Strengths
  • Detective Skills - Using his intelligence and resourcefulness, Dipper can solve any case he puts his mind to. Nothing is too mysterious, nothing is too dangerous, and if he can't solve it, it might be something he needs help with.
  • Born-adventurer - This boy can't sit still, always wanting to go find new things or explore what others have in order to see if there might be something they missed. Even if it gets him in trouble, Dipper will go for it.
  • Family and Friends - His strength in the end comes from them, especially his sister Mabel. Even if it doesn't seem like it at times, he knows they have his back.
  • Monster Hunting - Dipper is good at finding things that don't want to be found. Always prepared (or at lest in his mind he is), he goes after creatures big and small, deadly or cuddly, in order to find out the truth about them.

  • Weaknesses
  • Paranoia - The journal warned him to Trust No One. Dipper will be wary of anything that he thinks might pose a danger to him, being almost secretive at times about what he's up to so no one will get in his way or try to stop him. Mabel seems to be the only one he can confide in on a regular basis.
  • Uncertainty - If he's faced with something he doesn't know or the journal doesn't cover, Dipper will approach it with caution until he finds out what or who the creature or person in question is. And item will face even more caution since it can't interact directly with him unless it's cursed or possessed.
  • Temper - Dipper hates being called adorable, people messing with his sister, and people underestimating him, among other things. He reacts to these things with different levels of anger, the first stage being frustration, the highest level pretty much him attacking whoever/whatever is causing his anger.

  • Pokémon Information
    Affiliation: Trainer
Starter: Eevee - Dipper loves mysteries and discovering new things. He would find it amazing to have a Pokemon that has so many possible evolution's that it would keep him occupied for months, if not years, as to how something so ordinary can become so extraordinary depending on the right conditions and circumstances.

[Dipper stood beside his Eevee as an Espurr tried to stare them down.]

    Okay! Eevee, use Tackle!

[The Eevee responds with the right move, knocking the Espurr flat on its back. The cat Pokémon just... lays there... staring up at the sky now. With confusion, the Eevee looks back at her trainer, who looks just as baffled as she does. This doesn't seem like the right reaction...]

That... was that supposed to happen? [He pulls out his PokéDex.] Espurr... Psychic type... It should at least know Scratch, Leer, and Covet... Then why isn't it fighting back?! Wait, did Eevee give it a concussion? No, that shouldn't be it. She hit it around the waist, not the head...

[His train of out loud thought is cut short when the Espurr finally stand up and shakes the dust off. It walks right up to Dipper, tapping one of the Pokéballs on his belt. Seems it just wants to go home with you, Dipper. It's very insistent about it even it it's little paws can't quit grip the ball. No opposable thumbs.]

You know, if you want to be caught, you need to put up more of a fight. That's the point of battling and catching Pokémon and you can't even get that right! [He makes an aggravated noise before taking a ball off of his belt.] Fine. But you better not make me regret this, creepy cat. I'm warning you that if you're as useless now as you are when I use you for battle, you're going straight to Mabel!

[The Espurr considers this before nodding. That sounded alright to it. Either way it got to stick close to this human and the super strong Eevee that knocked it down. Dipper sighs and catches the Espurr with the most unimpressed look in the world.]

One down. Over 700 more to go.... this is gonna take forever. Mabel better be right about getting to Violet City soon. My feet are killing me.

    Character
    Name: Mabel Pines
    Series: Gravity Falls
    Timeline: Post canon
Canon Resource Links: Here’s her wiki! If this isn’t enough, let me know!

    Personality:

Unlike her younger brother, Mabel tends to see the world as half full. Due to this, she sees everything in an optimistic light and tries to look on the brighter side of things. At the same time, however, that doesn’t stop her from being self-absorbed and egotistical sometimes. Throughout her canon, she slowly starts to learn to become more selfless and especially in regards to her brother, Dipper.

One of the things that stands out about Mabel is how positive she is. Outside of wearing a smile on her face, she always makes silly jokes and wears a bunch of sweaters just for the occasion! Someone is having a bad day? That’s okay, she’ll be sure to turn that frown upside down! Need any advice on love? She’s the girl to go to! If you totally need to cry? She’s definitely help you out too!

While she has seen all the horrors and weirdness that goes on in Gravity Falls, that doesn’t falter her attitude. If anything, it simply makes her want to keep up the demeanor just so she can cheer her friends up! An example of this would be when Dipper accidentally raises the dead, what does she do in this situation? That’s right, keep going with the karaoke party while they take the zombies head on! This also extends to her friends as well. When all of them happened to be cursed by Summerween Trickster, she simply told them that they shouldn’t give up! They should do whatever he said and make the best out of everything! Another example would be when her brother confessed to his crush, Wendy, and when that didn’t work out? She simply tried her best to cheer him up and told him to look to the brighter side of things! In fact, this also extends to how much she wants to everyone to feel how happy she is! When Dipper had trouble getting over his crush, Mabel tried her best to make sure that he found another girl so he can be happy! This also applies to Robbie whom she too wanted him to be happy as well.

Since she's so optimistic, it also reflects on how she sees the world too. From the millions of sweaters and the one time she wore nacho earrings, it's quite clear that she is a rather creative and imaginative girl. While some might call her immature, she likes to think of herself as bold. After all, this was someone who made up and tends to think things in bright colors! In fact, when she had to fight against Bill, she simply decided to fight him off with a giant hamster wheel and some kitten bazookas! Not to mention this was also the same girl who managed to find one of Gravity Fall's biggest mystery about the who the founder of the town was simply because of how imaginative she could be!

Due to her optimistic nature about everything, Mabel can be a little too confident about how the way things go and especially regarding herself. Given how some of it might be because of how Dipper tends to be good at a lot of things, she tries to overcompensates and declares herself as the “Alpha Twin” simply because she was just a little bit taller than him. Even after Dipper finds a way to make himself taller, she still said she was the Alpha Twin because she just that confident. In addition, because of how assured she is, she also tends to do things without thinking. Throughout her canon, she has shown that she has unintentionally create a chain of events simply because she’s someone who acts first and thinks later. Some of them might be good, some of them might be bad but there’s no denying that she’s a girl who can be rather reckless.

Mabel is a rather caring individual. As mentioned before, when Robbie was having some love trouble, she still went out of her way to make sure that he was still happy in the end. Despite how horribly he treated both her and her friends, she still only wished him the best of luck in his future! On top of that, when Pacifica, a person whom she disliked, was having trouble with her party? She simply said that it was her friend’s dreams to go to that party! While she wanted to go too, she placed more emphasis on her friends first. Speaking of Pacifica, when she met her in Golf Wars, she tried to be friendly to her despite their past history. She told her that it was important to share and that they could probably be friends one day! In Society of the Blind Eye, even when Blind Ivan wasn’t being very nice to them, she still wished him some happiness in the future after his memories were gone! This is the same girl who wanted better working conditions in the Mystery Shack simply because they weren’t happy!

However, the most prominent example would be when she went out of her way to help her brother in Sock Opera. After finding out how Bill hijacked her brother’s body, she knew what had to be done. As she spent the entire summer trying to find some romance, she decided to a selfless thing and destroy her own puppet show in order to save Dipper. Of course, her crush wasn’t impressed in the end and she apologized to her brother about ignoring him.

Since Mabel has a tendency to go after crushes and sometimes disregarding other people, it should come to no surprise that Mabel can be selfish at times. So much so that Bill even made it known to her about how her brother does so much and yet, she does so little. From time and time again, Mabel has shown that can manipulative in getting what she wants. An example would be when Dipper wants to go back in time to prevent Wendy from going out with sometimes else, Mabel just continued to hit her head against a wall for a month simply because he caused her to lose her pig, Waddles. Another example would be when she got a boy band, Sev'ral Timez, to stay with her. While she knew it was the right thing to let them go, she ignored her friends pleas and said that they were going to stay with her forever. It had even gotten to the point where some of the members were getting scared! However, once again, the most obvious example would be when Mabel got into a fight with Dipper. After hearing how he agreed to be their great uncle’s apprentice, the girl just couldn’t take it anymore. While she told him about it was a horrible opportunity for her, she didn’t once think about how Dipper might have felt about the situation.

Despite all of that, the thing to consider is that Mabel is just thirteen years old. She is still just a kid who doesn’t want to grow up and has no idea how to deal with the future. After spending all her life with her brother, she has no idea how to handle being separated from him and move on into the unknown. With her canon point, it’s clear to see that Mabel has matured and will do just about anything as long as her brother’s happy.

Mabel can be considered a lot of things. She can be crazy, outgoing, a little out there and definitely doesn’t have both feet on the ground by evidence of Mabeland. She can also be selfish, manipulative, shallow, overconfident and unintentionally mean. At the same time though, she is still just a kid trying to understand what it means to grow up. While she has made a lot of mistakes, what kid hasn't?

    Pokémon Information
    Affiliation: Trainer
Starter: Eevee. The reason why I choose Eevee is because Dipper has an Eevee as well and given they’re twins, it’s seemed right to let Mabel has one as well. That and Eevee is an adorable Pokemon with a lot of untapped potential, which is a lot similar to what Mabel is like.

    Strengths/Weaknesses

    STRENGTHS
-Creativity: Again, Mabel might not have the same kind of intelligence as Dipper but she is definitely someone who thinks outside of the box. She doesn't have to follow logic or reason (Centaurtaur, anyone?), she simply just goes along with whatever her imagination takes her and it usually works for the best.

-Optimism: Even though she had seen things that would give people nightmares for days, she manages to come out on top with a bright smile on her face. Even to the point where people call her out on how annoyingly happy she is!

-Friendly: Given how she usually befriends a lot of people, it should come to no surprise that her friends came to defend her when someone said anything otherwise. (Because that stupid unicorn was mean.)

-Caring: Despite how selfish she can be, she really does want other people to be happy. And no matter what, she'll be sure that she goes out of her way that they do! Even if it means risking her own happiness at times.

    WEAKNESSES

-Naive: Since Mabel is only twelve, she tends to wear her heart on her sleeve and trusts people almost unconditionally. There are very few people whom she doesn't because she wants to believe in the best of people.

-Selfish: Throughout her canon, she has shown that while she can be caring, she can put her own needs before others. While it's never anything malicious, it is enough to be called out on. (Because Bill is just a mean old jerk)

-Vain: Since she places a lot on appearances, this can be quite the problem and especially regarding about her summer time crushes. And especially on her own appearance too. (Because Bill just also had to ruin her cuteness too!)

-Short sighedness: Since she tends to plan on what's happening in the present, she doesn't tend to think of what happens afterwards. This is especially true whenever she's trying to flirt with other boys. She wants 'X' thing to happen between them without really thinking about the future.

    Character
    Name: Timothy Lawrence
    Series: Borderlands
Timeline: The very end of The Pre-Sequel
Canon Resource Links: TPS @ Wikipedia for a general plot summary of the game

Timothy's page on the Borderlands wiki is lacking information, so I'll provide a brief summary myself.

Now, we don't know a whole lot about his backstory, but what we do know is that Timothy originally hails from one of the Eden planets, where he lived with his mother. He went to college, where he got a degree in Creative Writing, as well a whole lot of debt due to student loans. To pay these off, he took on a job as a body double for Jack, who at the time was just a programmer. This involved completely altering his appearance and voice to match Jack, a process that he... may not have completely consented to. And which isn't reversible. Furthermore, Timothy Lawrence is now officially dead and erased, so his original identity simply doesn't exist anymore.

Not long after the procedure was completed, Timothy was called to Elpis, along with the other playable Vault Hunters. Which is where the game begins, of course.

...Like I said. We don't really know a lot about the guy.

Personality: So right off the bat, Timothy's very unlike all the other playable characters in Borderlands. Because he's very... normal. He's not a battle-hardened warrior, bounty hunter, or assassin, or a robot programmed for this. He's just a normal guy looking for a job to pay off his student loans. Because of this, his attitude throughout the game is very different than that of the others, as he's constantly in fear of everything. After all, he didn't sign up for people shooting at him, weird freaky aliens, and giant death lasers. And all the heights. Oh god, the heights. The poor guy screams every time he has to use a jump pad. Throughout the game, he keeps expressing his desire to just go home.

Even when not in mortal danger, though, Timothy's pretty nervous. He's easily intimidated and also just kind of an awkward mess. Unlike Jack, who's very confident and self assured, Tim always sounds kind of unsure about himself. The best he can do is faking Jack's confidence, which he's not... super good at. Actually, he's not super great at imitating Jack in general, often putting on a super forced Jack act which he only makes less convincing by adding stuff such as "I'm Jack" at the end of a sentence. Oh Tim. He's also very much not suave, as the awkwardness increasing tenfold when he's around a pretty woman. Put him around Moxxi and he can barely even get out full sentences anymore. So yeah, a ladies man he's not. Or a peoples' man.

Despite being so much of a mess, Timothy actually holds up surprisingly well during his adventures on Elpis. Maybe not so much emotionally, okay, but he makes it through the entire game alive and in one piece. He's spineless and very much aware of it, and just not super into violence, but he's much braver than he gives himself credit for. Sure, he doesn't have much of a choice, but he still manages to find the strength to get through the whole game, rather than just finding a place to hide on Elpis and hope Jack fixes everything himself somehow. Not to mention that surviving Elpis means he's killed a lot of really powerful people and given his lack of combat experience, that's quite impressive. Got to give him credit for adapting as well as he did.

Emotionally... Well. For a good chunk of the game, Timothy's pretty okay going along with Jack. He's not the guy's biggest fan, far from it. But mostly he just thinks Jack's a bit of a douche with an ego. Once it becomes clear what Jack's really like, though, he goes from nervous yet cooperative, to very... bitter. He's in over his head and he knows it from the start, but he gets more resentful about it the more everything goes to hell. This change happens gradually through the game, but becomes a whole lot more obvious after Jack spaces the Hyperion scientists. He expresses his dislike for Jack more and more towards the end, calling him a psychopath under his breath and just making it very clear he's not on board with what's going on anymore, even though he still has to go along with it.

Tim and Jack are really just... so different. Where Jack sees himself as a hero, yet is anything but, Tim doesn't consider himself anything impressive and yet... He's definitely waaaaay more moral than Jack, actually being horrified at the deaths of innocent people. And also just... death in general. You get used to it to an extent in Pandora's part of the galaxy, but he's much less okay with all the violence. Like, hey, maybe killing someone because they're a dick is kind of ridiculous? Maybe if you want to start a relationship with someone don't send someone over there to try and kill them? Hey, maybe let's not kill this injured soldier who's surrendering? That last example is probably the most interesting one, as it actually gets Tim to tell off Jack with a simple, yet very effective line; "I'm not you, Jack".

And he really, really isn't. Hell, you could say that Tim is the type of hero Jack pretends to be, it's just that he doesn't see himself like that. Or, well, he has the potential to be, anyway. Though he doesn't agree with all the morally questionable actions Jack takes and downright despises the guy at the end, Timothy just... doesn't have the courage to really stand up to him, in a truly meaningful way. He's simply too scared and you can't really blame him, considering the type of person Jack is. He hates it, but what are you gonna do, right?

Honestly, Timothy is probably one of the nicest player characters there is. Not into murder, generally not very rude. There's the bitterness, sure, but that's more towards his awful circumstances and Jack than anything else, he's not the type to take that out on anyone. He's friendly and very much a dork, who loves books and cats. Just a normal guy. Who had his life kind of completely ruined by Jack.

Um, is this... working? [Huh, funny. Isn't that voice kind of familiar? The tone's off, but the sound of it's definitely the same as that Jack guy, right?] How... How do I know if...

Oh! Wait, the light's on, that probably means people are listening and... hearing me talk like an idiot! Great. Cool.

[...He quickly clears his throat. Right, yeah, let's not keep talking to himself like a moron, that's no way to make a first impression.]

I mean. Hello there, youuuuu, ah, lovely people. This is... Jack. Handsome Jack! That's me. In the flesh. I mean, not that you can see that, but--

Just. Just got a quick question.

Mainly... Wait, crap, let me turn on the video for this. [And then the video feed suddenly switches on, aimed right at a very excited looking Ditto, who smiled excitedly at the camera.] Okay, so, what the hell is that? I mean, all these other animals around here seem all messed up, but they're still, y'know, animals. This is just... I don't even know. Someone used some jello for a science class and something went wrong or whatever.

I don't really know what to do with it. Do I, like... feed it? Does it eat? It doesn't look like it eats, but uh. Don't wanna kill it by mistake.

    Character
    Name: Vaughn
    Series: Borderlands
    Timeline: Post-Tales season 1
Canon Resource Links: Wikipedia: Tales From the Borderlands season 1 plot summary. As Vaughn can fall to the side at times, here's a quick rundown of his role in the game:

When his coworker at the Hyperion Corporation and oldest friend, Rhys, is demoted, Vaughn helps him execute a plot to spite the supervisor responsible and put them back on their way to the top of the corporate ladder. This plan leads them off of the Helios space station and onto the planet Pandora to buy a $10 million Vault key, which is revealed to be a fake orchestrated by the con artist sisters Fiona and Sasha. When the boys' money is stolen, the sisters at first try to get rid of them, but the four soon team up to recover the cash. The hunt ends when the money is destroyed, but leads them to the path towards a real Vault and the greater riches contained within.

On this search, Vaughn appears almost always riding backseat to everyone else's leads. Anxious and constantly fearing for his life, he feels terribly out of place and often left behind. His relationship to Rhys causes him to be frequently taken hostage and used as leverage when the group is faced with adversaries, and he is verbally mistreated by nearly everyone they come across, effectively making him feel like nothing more than a punching bag sidekick.

Shortly after he expresses concern over these situations and his feelings of worthlessness to Rhys, Vaughn becomes abruptly and forcibly separated from the group. He is left on the planet while Rhys and the sisters are sent to Helios to recover the last item required to open the Vault, and watches [in horror as the space station is eventually sent plummeting into the planetside]. He soon searches [the wreckage] for his friends, but finding no evidence of any of them except [Rhys' severed cybernetic arm], he has no choice but to believe [that they are all dead].

While he is at [the crash site], Vaughn discovers many survivors in his ex-coworkers. The Hyperion employees have had no experience with the unforgiving nature of Pandora, and Vaughn finds a purpose in helping them organize and survive on the wild planet. Taking refuge around [the station's wreckage], the group is dubbed the Children of Helios, and Vaughn leads them under the guise of a fearsome bandit clan. In this time, he truly comes into his own and sheds many of the insecure feelings that he'd endured in his life up until then.

A great deal of time passes before he discovers that Fiona, Sasha, and Rhys [are still alive], and helps them to finally [open the Vault], into which Rhys and Fiona [disappear entirely].

Personality: At first glance, Vaughn appears pretty single-faceted. Anxious. Meek. Pushover. And maybe he is -- at least, that’s been a defining aspect of him at times in his life. Once, he hid behind his friends at the first sign of confrontation; not self-serving in trying to place his safety above theirs, but always afraid, and that fear tended to override everything else. Behind people’s backs, in safe spaces, however, a more spiteful, judgmental persona would surface. Anyone who hurt him or his friends was fair game for underhanded comments and often fruitless plans to get back at them.

This, of course, manifested as a more amusing, snarky side to his friends, and he never would pass up an opportunity for a witty rejoinder. His care ran deep for those who earned it, and he would always be willing to help out a friend in need, even if it meant simply standing beside them in danger. However, if he was trapped in a sticky situation with those he cared for and they seemed at a loss, then he would step up and produce a facade of confidence. A quick mind provided him with the intelligence needed to escape conflict, and his desire to help his friends ensured that he had the bravery to act.

His own self-worth suffered greatly in comparison to his commitment to others. On countless occasions, he felt forgotten, questioned his worth to his loved ones and always worried that he would be abandoned in favor of more extroverted people and more exciting situations. Still, his dedication to them never flagged, even when his friends intentionally left him behind or insulted him, the extent of his undying loyalty a fault.

When he was forced independent of those he would use as a crutch, however, his growth in character was remarkable. Knowledge he possessed that others did not was the first key for him to realize that he truly did have something to offer as a person. He voluntarily took on a position of leadership and flourished in it, aiding hundreds if not thousands of helpless people to survive in a hellish environment.

His newfound confidence allowed him to loosen up a fair amount, and his penchant for passive aggression wavered in favor of a more straightforward attitude sensitive to others’ well-being. He still never failed to make quick-witted banter, but it was more in good nature than before. His responsibilities let his unhealthy loyalty flourish into a positive desire to look after and care for those who needed it, perhaps his own past insecurities a motivation to help others.

He may still come off as nervous at times, but it stems more from a conscious effort to protect the integrity of everyone involved in a conflict than to save his own hide. And he certainly requires much less effort to just relax and smile more often, and face challenges with courage as they arise.

Starter: Riolu, if possible. Vaughn's starter could be nothing but a fighting type. Riolu is an excellent choice as a baby pokemon. Much like Vaughn himself, its size and appearance at first glance lends it no intimidating presence. But also like Vaughn, when it trains hard and understands it is cared for, it can display truly incredible strength and willpower in spite of appearances, and its loyalty is unquestionable.

Yeah, so, couple things: I think somebody got me confused with someone else. I have somebody's stuff, and there's... a... two-legged blue dog following me. I mean, it's friendlier and a lot less ugly than a skag, but... Please, whoever you are, come get your backpack and your weird dog. I'm sure it misses you.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_from_the_Borderlands#Characters

    Personality:
Fiona is one of those people that you really hope are on your good side. She’s tough and self-reliant. She’s spent her entire life learning how to fend for herself in the rough town of Hollow Point on Pandora. She doesn’t put up with much, and what she does put up with she meets with a sarcastic smile and a cutting remark. On the surface, she seems to be a typical bandit with a penchant for conning people out of their money. She holds most people at a distance. There are only a few that really know Fiona and the moment you enter her inner circle, you’re stuck with her - for good or for bad.

Fiona is loyal, sticking by her friends even when the odds are stacked against them. Earning Fiona’s trust is the difficult part. There is really only one person Fiona trusts unconditionally, her sister, Sasha. With everyone else, Fiona regards their involvement with an element of suspicion. Even when their mentor betrays them, it’s Sasha who is hurt far more than Fiona. On some level, Fiona expects to be double-crossed. It’s the life they live - every man and woman for themselves. She tries not to take it personally. That doesn’t mean Fiona will abandon others for the sake of herself, however. In that way, she’s different than other Pandorans. Even though Fiona knows her loyalty may not be returned, she still finds it difficult to turn her back on the people she’s formed a bond with - whether it’s a common goal or something resembling friendship.

What drives Fiona is the search for a better life. That’s what money will bring, provided she’s able to gather enough in one place. Conning a Hyperion stooge into thinking he was purchasing an Vault Key was just one of the ways she was going to strike it big. Once she realized that she was in the possession of a real Vault Key, suddenly her desire to strike it big and leave the useless waste of a planet shifted into something else. Maybe she was destined to be a Vault Hunter - loving the thrill of the search. Sure, money is still nice but the adventure of finding the Vault was far more satisfying than any simple con. The pay-off is more than how much money the Vault contains. It’s the uncertainty of where the next adventure will take her that is more important than simply money. That’s the better life she wants and Fiona will stop at nothing to claim it.

Waking up in an unknown house isn’t what Fiona expected once she opened the Vault. Stranger still was the beeping noise that seemed to be coming from a pack leaning on the side of the bed. She reached inside, half anticipating a bomb of some sort, and pulled out what looked to be an Atlas com and a small red and white ball. The ball reminded her of Gortys but she was pretty certain the last time she saw the adorable bot she was back to normal size. The ball was tiny - perhaps it was a mini-Gortys?

Fiona touched the ball and heard a pop. The ball opened and a round creature landed on her bed. She jumped back, not sure if the alien was going to attack her. The creature gave it’s own startled squeak that sounded more like a pig’s snort. Fiona grabbed the pillow from the bed and held it in front of her, just in case.

“Hello, there,” she said. The creature was rather cute, she had to admit. It looked like a miniature pig but not a pig she’d ever seen before. The creature wagged it’s curly tail and spoke.

    “Tepig! Tepigtepig.”

    “Ah!”

Fiona moved farther away from the alien pig. She’d heard some bizarre sounds on Pandora but a talking pig was not one of them. Just where in the hell did the Vault take here? On second thought, why was she alone? Rhys had opened the Vault with her. Shouldn’t he also be in this room? Fiona frowned. Something about all of this smelled rotten.

Keeping the pillow between herself and the alien pig, she picked up the Atlas com. Someone was bound to have the other end. She ignored the flashing messages and pressed the large green button, broadcasting to the other communicators.

“Rhys? Is this your idea of a joke? Because I’m not laughing.”

    Name: Takashi "Shiro" Shirogane
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Timeline: The end of episode 10, Collection and Extraction
Canon Resource Links: Wiki Link with a lot of backstory and canon abilities.

    Personality:
You look at a guy like Shiro and you say, yes, this boy-slash-man is definitely the military man, the strong leader who will be serious and self-assured and keep everyone on the straight and narrow. You wouldn't be totally wrong. He is outwardly these things. But he is also, shockingly enough, something of a soft heart. While yes, he is very much the straight man in a lot of the shenanigans, he's also the one who makes bad jokes at his own expense – one involving space jail which literally no one else thought was funny – and occasionally joins in on making laser noises. He's not above affectionate physical contact with his teammates, such as hugs or manly shoulder pats. He's closest to the smallest, and angriest, member of their team, always looking out for her, and reassuring her when need be. This is a guy you'd want around if you had a bad day, and needed a big brother to cry on – or encourage you along.

A strong example of his kindness is the way he puts other people first. He is always protecting someone. In however way he can – whether it is actively herding them away from danger, or throwing himself into their place, he does his best to keep his friends and companions from harm. He is especially protective of his team, launching himself, handcuffed, into a combat situation to try and save them. It's sort of a “papa wolf” trope situation – if you hurt his people, he will do whatever he has to in order to save them. Even including putting himself through what looked to be a very bad, very dangerous gladiator situation, in the case of Matt Holt, who he replaced. Granted, he did it through actually injuring his friend, but he ended up keeping the poor guy out of the ring. It's not unreasonable to assume he would go to even greater lengths to protect others.

He's not stupid, though, despite attempts at being a big dweeb who laughs at food fights and sloths. He is adaptable in combat situations, and knows how to plan effectively. Out of all of these disaster children, he is the one who was able to bond quickest and closest with his giant, vaguely magical, lion robot. Which speaks to him actually possessing the traits the Black embodies – leadership, intelligence, and steadiness. Whether this combat intelligence is from his training or just his natural skill, we don't know. But it's there, regardless.

Part of his ability to be a capable leader is his skill with putting on a brave face. It's shown he has a lot of doubts and scars (mentally and physically), but he keeps it under wraps. He knows he's the one the others look to, he knows he's in a position where he has to be composed. And so he is. That is just the say things are, and that's how he's going to act. His mission is to be the leader of the Paladins and he will carry it out. It's a very militaristic attitude, but so far, it's working more often than not.

It should also, very definitely be noted... this boy is not okay. For the most part, he has it under control. He can keep a proverbial lid on it, more times than not. But there are certain triggers – like being faced with certain members of the enemy army, or when placed in certain situations that remind him too much of events in the past – which either cause a straight-up flashback episode, or a more calmer memory recall. Both of these are the only times he can remember the missing pieces of the year he'd blocked out of his mind (or been made to forget, we're not entirely clear on that yet). And he doesn't tend to forget them immediately after, either. The flashbacks and memories are often accompanied by a lot of panic and agitation, as especially seen in the bit where he is either hallucinating being taunted by an enemy general, or actually is, and ends up panicking to the degree that he launches the aforementioned general's cryo pod into space.

These are more extreme cases, as he has shown he's capable of recalling previously forgotten events without so much as an outward twitch – such as when he's remembering guard patrol patterns. There is also a lot of lowkey dislike of his mechanical arm, which he literally woke up with one day, and had no memory of getting. All he knows is that it's made by the enemy, and isn't human. It ties him to the people who hurt him and his friends – so, naturally, this is not a Good Thing. No matter how brave a face he can put on it, the fact remains, he is deeply, badly scarred by whatever happened to him in that missing year.

Current Characters in Victory Road: Kazuhira Miller (Metal Gear).

    Character
    Name: Sunny Gurlukovich
    Series: Metal Gear
    Timeline: Pre-MGS4
Canon Resource Links: here, listed under Sunny Emmerich because she's officially adopted by Otacon later down the timeline.

    Personality:

As a disclaimer, Sunny is six years old. Her personality, therefore, is not immensely complicated, and this will be a short application.

That said, Sunny is a fairly remarkable six year old, given that she was held hostage from birth by what is pretty much the in-universe equivalent of the Illuminati until about the age of four (the canon timeline is vague). During her time with the Patriots, she was used as a computer programmer, and was kept entirely socially isolated. Yes, you read that correctly, computer programmer. Sunny is beyond a prodigy with computers, and also presumably in general, since she would've had to have learned to read at an absurdly early age. Honestly, I headcanon that she's something like machine code bilingual because it makes slightly more sense.

But I digress. The point is this: Sunny is unbelievably smart. But she has no social skills. In fact, Sunny is debilitatingly shy. Due to spending the first half of her life as a hostage sitting in front of a computer, and the other half seeing the exactly two (2) people who rescued her and kept her in a helicarrier for her own safety, she has zero experience with people or the outside world. As a result, she has a pretty pronounced stutter, and isn't very good with new people. Still, Sunny is a good kid. In fact, she's the in-universe Incorruptible Pure Pureness, and is symbolically representative of the next generation wiping away the sins of their parents, while carrying on the memes worth keeping. And, she saves the world with a badass computer virus this way and destroys the Patriots' AIs (and thus effectively the Patriots) forever.

But she hasn't done that from the canonpoint I'm taking her. Her in-game character arc goes from her being a shy kid who's never seen the outside world to someone who's losing her stutter and embracing life outside. So, while I could take her postgame, I'm not going to in order to have that development here in Johto! Horraaaay!

So she's basically a shy, innocent kid with a heart of gold. What a model person, with no time to be corrupted by the terrible universe she lives in.

PRIMARY MOTIVATION: Sunny is an altruist and wants to make the world a better place, but even more than that she wants to protect those close to her. Because her guardians lead very dangerous lives, she does a lot of worrying, and tries to help them in whatever little ways she can (like a sincerely misguided attempt at cooking). Anyone else she meets and likes will quickly fall into the same category. She's a lover, not a fighter, and is generally adverse to violence and conflict.

    STRENGTHS
    - Kind
    - Selfless
    - Determined
    - Mature-ish for her age (although she is definitely still six)

    WEAKNESSES
    - Shy
    - Emotional
    - Stubborn-- can be surprisingly obstinate when she puts her foot down.
    - Cannot cook but will make you eat her burnt eggs anyway

    Character
    Name: Asriel Dreemurr
    Series: Undertale
Timeline: End of True Pacifist run
Canon Resource Links: Spoilers for the game, but by now I'd hope you've at least heard of it.

Personality: Asriel is, at his core, a gentle and soft-hearted boy. He cries easily, as implied by Chara’s goading at his tears and his assertion that “big kids don’t cry”, echoing possible teasing from a reaction he commonly exhibits. Despite such goading, however, he is very devoted towards those he cares about, pushing aside any misgivings he might have in order to please those he loves. While they may not be reciprocated, he seems to be able to make deep attachments to others, and becomes anxious and afraid when they are threatened, finding it difficult to let go.

His time as the soulless Flowey turned him cold and literally unfeeling, adopting a “kill or be killed” mentality to the world through his experience on the surface; he could have either let Chara kill the humans, or take the blows they sent his way and died, and he picked the latter, which led to his death - still, this shows Asriel's compassion and desire to do what is right, even when it is difficult. Before Frisk arrived, during his life as Flowey, he was incredibly bored, having seen every single possibility in his tiny world. With Frisk’s arrival came unpredictability, giving him something to be interested in again, and he is clever and meticulous in his plans to keep that around. The power of determination that allows him to Reset is definitely something he abuses, showing the impulse control of a child along with the nigh-sociopathic boredom of living through life with no surprise no matter how he acts.

His short return to his goat form in the True Pacifist ending brought back his emotions for some time, but he clung desperately to his plans to keep Frisk around, so he would not lose the one person who made his life interesting again. He shows the creativity and enthusiasm of a young child, styling himself as an all-powerful "God of Hyperdeath" in the final battle. Frisk's mercy throughout that battle, however, was what allowed Asriel to see reason and reclaim his gentler side. In this current form, not only does determination give him the courage to face his problems, but it also gives him the courage to accept them. He knows his actions as Flowey are unforgivable, that Frisk is a one in a million person to forgive him. He knows very well the kind of pain he would bring would he reveal himself, only to turn back into Flowey and possibly ruin the lives of those he knows he loves but cannot feel love for. In this way, he shows himself to be caring to the point of self-sacrifice, but also aware of his faults and the possibility that, if allowed the chance, he could relapse into his Flowey ways. Though he acts out of fear of being alone and unloved, he does his best to take what he sees as his only happy ending with a sad smile, ushering Frisk away with a “Don’t you have anything better to do?” as if suggesting that, even after all the trouble he caused, he shouldn’t be thought of as anything but a memory, not worth your worry.

Overall, at the end of the True Pacifist run, Asriel is sad, but understands his fate. He is gentle and startlingly wise, knowing that the world can and will be cruel no matter what, but one should strive to "not kill, and not be killed". He appreciates kindness shown towards him, and does not expect anything in return, especially for all that he had done while not himself. Even so, he is still just a child, with the wishes and impulsiveness of one - to not be alone, to have friends, and to have fun.

Victory Road Sample: The lack of fur at night is troubling.

Sure, summer nights aren't known to be chilly, but Asriel hasn't yet figured out how to sleep while keeping his body at a comfortable temperature. He'd fallen asleep just laying out on top of his sleeping bag, Gracie the Flabebe nestling in his strange white hair (a place she had grown accustomed to being), and woken up in the middle of the night with chattering teeth and a worried Fairy Pokemon flitting about him. Okay, fine, so he just needed to get into the sleeping bag, maybe put on that spare shirt that weird lady gave him and become a burrito, right? Wrong, because it's not long before his whole body flares up with heat. It's early morning, but not yet dawn when Asriel kicks out of his sleeping bag, whining in frustration, tears budding at the corners of his eyes.

"AUGH! This is awful!" He peels off the extra shirt and balls it up with shaking hands, throwing it into the dirt. Fat lot of good his "Mom" had done for him, packing all this useless junk. A lump forms in his throat at the thought of his real Mom, who wouldn't have ever locked him out of the house or packed so little food for him. No, she would have seen how wrong it was for him to be a human (the sun hurts his eyes, his skin, smiles don't feel right on his face, there's no trickle of dust when he scrapes his knee just blood and scabbing and wrongness) and kept him inside until they figured out how to change him back to normal, or at least helped him adapt. He misses her in a rush, and curls up in a ball, forehead pressed against his knees.

That's when he feels Gracie in his hair again.

She probably alighted from him once he woke up, and judging by how softly she nestled up to him, how gentle the touch of her tiny hand against his scalp, almost petting him were she not so small and cooing her species' name for lack of comforting words...Asriel feels his heart swell, and he remembers something very important.

It's alright if things are strange to him right now. It's fine if he can't figure out how to keep himself comfortable. In this body...he had a soul. He had this sharp frustration and bitter loneliness and, yes, his warm and abundant love back - so even with all the trouble, it would be fine, right? Gracie would protect him, and - and he'd love Gracie, just like he loved her now.

Sniffling, Asriel reaches up, and the Flabebe alights to his hand, letting him bring her down to eye level. She looks very concerned, almost sad, and then confused when Asriel lets out a weak laugh and leans down to gently kiss the top of her head. After all, you gave kisses to the little things you loved, right? That's what his parents always did.

    "Thank you, Gracie."

    Character
    Name: Keith
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
    Timeline: end of season 1
    Canon Resource Links: wiki.

Personality: The first few things that probably come to mind when we’re first introduced to Keith is that he’s most likely a loner with an attitude issue. And frankly, you wouldn’t be wrong with that assumption. Keith very much sticks to himself, or at least he did prior joining the other six members of team Voltron. He isn’t the type to form quick attachments to people either, as he couldn’t remember who Lance was despite attending the same garrison and being in the same classes together prior his expulsion. It isn’t specifically stated what his family situation is like, because one would assume that after getting expelled from galactic space school for disciplinary issues, you would go back home. Instead, Keith holed up in a shack in the middle of the desert.

Keith very much embodies the fire element of the red lion. He can be very temperamental and hot headed. Sometimes, when he’s in the heat of battle, his emotions tend to get the better of him. He isn’t the type of person to back down from a fight either. You could sort of say that he gets tunnel vision when it comes to something he deeply cares about or desires? If he wants it bad enough, he will do whatever he can to achieve his goal, even if it puts him in harms way or at the risk of dying. If he sees an opportunity to go for something, he’ll do it, even against the behest of everyone else. This is seen during the fight with Zarkon at the end of the first season. He was told (numerous times to boot) by both Allura and Coran to avoid fighting Zarkon at all costs, because he was too powerful to go up all by himself. But Keith saw the opportunity to end it all, to end the war, and went with it. He even turned off the communication system in his lion all because he didn’t want to be bothered or distracted while he was in the middle of fighting the other. He’s also the type of person who would put others needs over his own. He even harped on Pidge about it when she wanted to leave the team to find her father and brother. He told her that she was putting the lives of two people over the lives of millions. Despite all of his faults though, Keith generally means well. He will one hundred percent back up his team when they need him to, he isn’t the type of person to leave people in the dust either.

Going past his skills as a pilot and how he is in the heat of battle, Keith can be very intuitive. He takes to his surroundings like a fish out of water. He goes with his gut most of the time unless something proves him otherwise. This is proven when the others first meet the Arusians (the locals on planet Arus.) He seemed to be very wary of them at first, and came close to fighting one of them off. As he spent time with them though, he eventually came to accept them and realized that they really didn’t mean any harm, they were just curious about the castle. He’s also extremely perceptive as he seemed to know that Pidge was hiding her true gender by saying that he “naturally knew she was a girl” when she told the team the truth. He was also the first to sense the blue lions whereabouts in the desert.

Also as a side note, Keith seems to be on the slow uptake when it comes to jokes. A majority of them seem to go over his head and or are met with often deadpan stares. Like the chant Lance started to say “When I say Vol, you say torn! Vol…” and Keith replied by answering “Voltron?” He also doesn’t seem to get a majority of Lance’s gestures either. Like when they went to go save Shay on Balmera. They had encountered a couple Glara soldiers. Lance had gestured to him the plan he had come up with, but Keith stared at him blankly before he looked for his own way to drop in and surprise the soldiers. Now this isn’t to say that he doesn’t know how to have fun, because that’s quite the opposite. He’s shown numerous of times laughing and having fun with each team member. It’s just that there are a few things that seem to go over his head.

Keith manages to get along with the team very well. He admires Shiro a lot and looks up to the other. After all he was one of the ones who discovered his whereabouts when he came back to Earth and helped create the distraction to help break him out of the makeshift hospital the Garrison held him in. Shiro was also the one to instill that patience is a virtue, and that if he were to rush through things it would do him no good. His relationship with Pidge and Hunk are very neutral too. With Pidge he helps her throw the food goo during their team bonding. And with Hunk he seems to be more relaxed around the other, in fact, his first instance of laughing with the others is with Hunk. The one he seems to have rough patches with seem to be Lance. They bicker constantly and seem to push one another. But it all seems to be in good fun as they manage to have a couple of “bonding moments” here and there. Their relationship is more like a friendly rivalry at most. He enjoys egging the other on, but he doesn’t mean any harm or foul by it either. They did have a rough start at first, Keith criticizing Lance’s piloting. But they do, indeed work really well together. They bounce off of one another with quick, teasing retorts. And despite the front he puts up, he does care for the other’s well being as he was present and insistent on wanting to know when the other would get out of the healing pod during the attack on the space castle in Arus.

Victory Road Sample: Keith awoke with a start as he rolled off of the surface (bed) he was laying on and directly on to… his face. He groaned as he touched his head tenderly before finally coming to his senses. Oh quiznack, where was he?! The last thing that he vividly remembers was that he was in the space castle with the others, Allura had opened a warp hole so that they’d be able to escape from Zarkon and the Galaran forces that were chasing after them— and. And, something was compromised inside the warp hole. Whatever happened, caused each and everyone of them to be sent off in different directions. He definitely recalled being sort of close to Shiro and the Black lion, but anything after that was fuzzy.

Keith inhales sharply as he jerks his head up. He makes a move to stand, but ends up stumbling over his own too feet as the movement was too quick for his body to process in that short amount of time. But it didn’t matter to Keith. The only important thing that mattered was finding out where Red was and if Shiro was okay. If his assumptions were correct, then he and Shiro ended up crash landing on the same planet together. It made sense since they were right next to each other in their lions before everyone got sent in different directions. But what didn’t make sense was the fact that Shiro was no where to be seen.

He does a quick surveillance of his surroundings and quickly discovers that he’s in… some sort of room? His thoughts led him being stuck in an interrogation room, since this doesn’t even begin to remotely resemble a cell— but that led him to wondering why would they leave him alone? No one would just throw a paladin in a room and just… leave him unguarded. Well whatever, their loss. And with that Keith leaves the room to roam around the rest of the building he was in. As he did this he started to believe that someone found him, because it looked too peaceful to belong to someone who sided with the Galaran empire.

Now if only he could find the person who found him— then he could get some answers out of them and see where Shiro and Red would be. Keith ran a hand through his hair as he glanced around, maybe he could… wait a few minutes to see if whoever lives here is just… out and about running a few errands? He lets out a sigh as he leans against the countertop. Yeah a few minutes should be fine. But then a few minutes turned into what felt like two hours and the person still hadn’t shown up.

“Okay, this is ridiculous, I have a team I need to relocate.” Keith muttered to himself as he hastily ran around the house grabbing at things he’d need for his travels. If he wasn’t going to get answers out of the person who lived here then he was going to go find someone who could give him answers. He at least left them a decent, yet hastily written note thanking whoever it was for finding him and making a burger for him. Or at least he assumed it was for him since it was left on the kitchen counter. He makes a quick look around to see if there was anything else he’d feel he’d need to bring with him, and with that, he sets off on his journey.

”…Welcome to the world of Pokémon!”

Keith blinks as he looks around to find the speaker. Okay, so he’s on planet Pokémon, cool. Good to know.

    Character
    Name: King Asgore Dreemurr
    Series: Undertale
    Timeline: Post-true pacifist end
    Canon Resource Links: Wiki!

Personality: Asgore is widely known to monsterkind as a complete and total softy. Despite being an age-old ruler, he doesn't hold himself apart from his subjects at all; his home is always open, and he's frequently out and mingling with his people. Anyone can drop in on him to have a cup of tea, or even challenge him to a fight if that's really what they feel like doing. Though there is a Royal Guard, they don't spend much time guarding their royal. He's very nurturing, and enjoys spending time with children by volunteering at schools, as well as tending his garden.

Of course, Asgore also murders children sometimes! Yaaaaaaay!

Inwardly, Asgore Dreemur is a deeply sad goat. He never got past the loss of his family, and deeply regrets his declaration of war against humans. While he was furious over his childrens' deaths at the time, the anger quickly faded, and he holds no true grudge against humanity as a whole. They're not all responsible for what happened, and certainly the children who fall Underground aren't. But, of course, he kills them nonetheless. Asgore has a very strong sense of duty, and will put the wellbeing of his people before anything else - even his own morals and welfare. The promise of eventual freedom is the only thing keeping many monsters going, so he feels that he must keep that promise, no matter how terrible it is. He can drag his feet and delay war as much as possible, but he can never take back what he's done. Given how closely tied monsters' physical health is to their emotions, he's got definite cause for concern; for the populace to lose all hope could easily be catastrophic.

Even though he feels dutybound, Asgore obviously doesn't believe that this excuses him from guilt. He thinks of himself as a terrible person, he has no real hope for his own future, and he does not believe he deserves mercy. He will in fact outright refuse to accept any from Frisk; should they spare him, and Flowey not arrive to kill him, he will instead commit suicide so that they may go free. He does hope that they may find a way to save the rest of the monsters on the Surface, but he acknowledges that it's a huge responsibility to give to a child. He simply cannot see any other way forward. He puts monsterkind before anything, but given the chance, he'll easily prioritize literally anyone else over himself.

Asgore very much lives in the past; his home is unchanged from when Toriel, Asriel, and Chara lived there, and he's still trying to replicate Toriel's pie recipes. But the True Pacifist ending of the game at least offers some hope for moving forward. It's extremely unlikely that he'll do so at any great speed, but hey. Change is good.

Victory Road Sample: After receiving explanations from the Internet - as much as they seemed able to explain - Asgore is quick to make his way out of New Bark Town. These humans are all kind and helpful, but just now he prefers to be alone for a moment.

(Not entirely, of course. He still wasn't quite comfortable taking the young Pokemon along, but there seemed nothing else he could do short of leaving it alone. He carried it, at least, rather than put it back in the strange capsule.)

Soon he finds a tree off the path, and places a hand against its trunk as he sits beneath it. It's a birch, comfortingly similar to the kind one might find around Mount Ebott. At least some things have remained the same...he frowns, staring at his own furless human hand against the bark.

    Human. How karmic.

Asgore has no issue with humans. But the loss of his magic is like a hollow cavern in his chest, and he cannot quite meet the eyes of the humans around him. They don't understand. They would not be so kind and helpful if they did. Perhaps that would be some small justice, of the kind he hasn't faced back home...but he's still got someone to look after, even if it's only a tiny Sunkern. And maybe they'll find a way back someday. He's too old to be that afraid of a few years' wait, and even if this form ages as a human, it will be some time yet before he needs to worry about that. It would be best to stay the course.

So then. He and Sunkern will need a place to stay, and food. In fact, a creature so young probably ought to be fed often. He opens his pack to root around. The human woman claiming to be his mother was…well, he’s concerned for her, frankly, but she seems to have done an admirable job of preparing him for whatever trip he’s meant to take. She’s even packed him some snacks.

    Some non-magical, human snacks.

“…ah. I see.” Of course. Asgore is no expert, but he understands human biology better than most monsters alive. He’s never experienced it so intimately. It seems rude to think of it as distasteful. For now, he just breaks a small piece of one off and offers it to the Sunkern. "Are you hungry, little one? It looks like we may be walking for a while."

    Character
    Name: Rapunzel
    Series: Tangled
Timeline: Hiding the diadem/satchel on her way to let Gothel back into the tower
    Canon Resource Links: Disney Wikia

Personality: Rapunzel is a young woman cheerful and energetic enough to power a small city. Get it? Because SOLAR power?? Her overall first impression on others is that she's very happy and optimistic, even if maybe a touch naive and paranoid (hi Flynn). Honestly this isn't at all far off the mark of truth! She's actually quite naive about most things, but it's only because of her lack of experience, something that was almost entirely out of her own control. She learns very quickly, though, and while she maintains a sweet, forgiving, and sort of trusting attitude towards others (She could have easily been duped by the ruffians, for example.) she's also not one to completely duped and taken advantage of. Despite her inexperience with the world Rapunzel is quite capable of taking care of herself, both with resources and without, when push comes to shove, so there's no need to worry about her starving on the side of the road somewhere.

She's easily excitable, both negatively and positively (example: going back and forth on whether or not she should have left the tower or if she should return home at once, going so far as to alternate between "I am a horrible daughter/despicable human being." and "I AM NEVER GOING BACK!!!", until finally reaching her keel again), and because she's experiencing so much of life for the first time she also seems to bounce between being a sweet and polite young lady and that energetic kid that you can't take your eye off of for a second.

As she experiences and learns more, coming closer to realizing her dream and simultaneously learning about the less wondrous things in life Rapunzel begins to mellow. Her growth follows the arc of the movie to a tee. It starts off tentative but strong, rises to an almost fever pitch, strengthens with resolve, hesitates briefly with the uncertainty of her future, and finally evens out as it finds its keel again. she's very mature and reflects her age well at points in the film.

From childhood she's been accustomed to being on her own most of the time. Since she was old enough to understand and follow mother Gothel's instruction she's done everything she was told. Her obedience is to the point that she wouldn't even have dared to leave the tower without her mother's permission before encountering Flynn. Gothel has ensured that Rapunzel is thoroughly dependent on her for nearly everything, and for seventeen years that method has worked well. Rapunzel herself, however, has secretly harbored a dream for years that has kept the willful flame and determination going, slowly building her strength over time if only due to the fact that she had to learn to stand up for what she wanted with mother Gothel rather than being afraid to ask for everything. If she were any other way her existence would have been much more dreary, but Gothel seemed to relent on keeping Rapunzel happy as long as it meant she would remain obedient, see her as the "good guy", and most importantly keep her from actually daring to leave the tower no matter how curious she became. Rapunzel is actually a very willful girl, but didn't really show this until she finally worked up the nerve to ask for the one thing she'd wanted most since she was old enough to remember-- but simply dared not ask for. More than anything else she wanted to see the floating lights.

But back to her encounter with Flynn for just a moment: He's the very first human being that she's ever encountered outside of her mother (Pascal, her best friend, is actually a chameleon, and even though he can't speak back verbally she's gotten entirely accustomed to holding conversations with him or with herself, so she's not a total social recluse. Wow that sounds odd.) and he both represents and sparks in her a courage to finally leave the tower (without her mother's permission) and live her dream. There's nothing quite like sneaking up on and knocking an unsuspecting grown man unconscious with an iron skillet to get the confidence going. She managed to blackmail Flynn into giving her what she wanted-- an escort to Corona (where the lights displayed every year) and back again with every intention of Gothel never being the wiser. This demonstrates that Rapunzel, when pushed, can have quite the sly side to her. Something we see again when she sort of guilt trips Maximus and Flynn into cooperating long enough for her to see the lights.

She's courageous, demonstrated countless times in the film, but most noticeably when she attempts to rescue Flynn from an entire TAVERN full of ruffians despite being so grossly outnumbered, and with only her frying pan and her words to make her case. It's shown again when she and Flynn are making their escape down the tunnels and into the area with the dam, and then again at its most poignant state when she stands up against Gothel, who was not only the only mother she'd ever known but also her mental and emotional tormentor for years.

She's artistic, and there are so many examples of this you couldn't shake a stick at all of them if you tried. For example: The entire interior of the tower was decorated by Rapunzel's art. She created an enormous mural in the town square during the festival, she's shown a talent for flower baking, painting, knitting, drawing in various mediums (chalk, paint, possibly charcoal, pencil, and ink as well), and singing. She's optimistic, well intended, and even though she can initially be a little nervous around new people she warms to them very quickly-- even the likes of bandits and ruffians --once she realizes they're not as scary or dangerous as they seem.

Rapunzel is what you'd call a romantic, too, easily taken and charmed by the sights, smells, and sounds around her. That's only to be expected, after all, having spent her life in the same series of rooms. For that reason she's extremely curious, prone to excite easily. If you were to take her into a crowded area like a fair you should be fully prepared to find her wandering off on her own, despite possible warnings not to. She honestly wouldn't be able to help herself, there's an entire world out there that she hasn't been aware of for the better part of her life. She has so much catching up to do that it's not funny, or maybe it is, it depends on WHAT it is she's currently learning about.

    Timeline: Post end-game
    Canon Resource Links:

    Personality:
    From the wiki:
Krieg suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). He argues with himself in some of his quotes, and he has a quieter 'inner voice' which occasionally tells him what to do or comments on his surroundings.

    [...]

Krieg's inner voice is compared to a man driving an out-of-control semi truck by [Borderlands' lead writer]. He cannot stop the truck, but he can try and steer it away from as many innocents as possible.

Krieg's dominant personality is pretty clearly his violent side, as is evidenced by his typical interactions with the Borderlands world. He's far more lucid within the constraints of his own mind than he's able translate into language and action.

His peaceful side keeps his violent side in check by threatening to take control and commit suicide the instant he harms an innocent person. The arrangement appears to have worked out, because not only did Krieg survive all of the various, exciting events that transpired throughout the story in Borderlands 2, he thrived.

It's fairly clear that positive interaction with other people is a huge benefit to Krieg. All it took was the kindness of A pretty lady with a heart of gold (cw for violence and blood) to get him started on the Path To Redemption, or at least on the Path of Not Killing People Who Don't Deserve It. We're still not sure about the former, but as of the start of BL2, we do know Krieg is definitely on the latter.

He's particularly close to Maya - the pretty lady with a heart of gold - but he works well with all of the vault hunters. Being able to focus on a concrete goal - in this instance, stop Handsome Jack from opening the Vault - and working toward meeting that goal is hugely beneficial to his psyche. His inner side is very aware that the way their mind works currently is not right, and that it hasn't always been this way, and holds out hope that someday they'll be able to act like a normal person again. He believes that Maya's kindness is the starting point to their road to recovery.

Krieg plays surprisingly well with others given his generally violent nature. While there is a disconnect between his inner self and outer self in a lot of instances, overall he seems to prefer company, and teamwork. He recalls a time when he helped other people - when, as he says, his mind was whole - and is generally encouraging (in his own special way) when reviving fallen teammates. Even Krieg's violent side understands the value of teamwork, and does his part to ensure the success of the group.

In addition to swearing never to harm an innocent, Krieg will step in to prevent someone else harming an innocent...most likely using his own body as a meat shield. He's not squeamish in the least, and is in fact very much a masochist. His inner voice seems to believe that he deserves to suffer whatever physical pain is inflicted on him, and his outer personality actually, literally revels when he's injured. Krieg's style of combat in the context of Borderlands' gameplay is - for all intents and purposes - suicidal. Based on how skill points are distributed by the player, he receives massive stat and combat bonuses when he's injured. The lower his HP, the better the bonuses.

Snippets of monologue throughout the story reveal vague memories of helping people and getting paid with loot (such as a vault hunter might do), but Krieg never allows himself to actively search for these memories, shying away from them and avoid them completely instead. His more peaceful, lucid side has some desire to remember, but his dominant, violent side does not, and he actively stops himself from attempting to recall. Despite this, he is occasionally motivated by memories of a mysterious woman - "Where is she? Is she still alive? Did she get away?" "Get up. She might still be out there." The identity of this woman (or possibly women) is never revealed, but a popular fan theory is that Krieg is the father of one of BL2's main character NPCs, Tiny Tina, and that his rare references to this woman mean either Tina, Tina's mother, or possibly both. It's possible the woman doesn't have a direct relationship to whatever traumatic event caused Krieg's disassociation in the first place, because while his dominant side overrides most efforts to remember things, he doesn't have a strong reaction to mentions of her.

Krieg can follow and participate in conversations, but his contributions are not always easy for his conversation partner to parse. While Inner Krieg is perfectly lucid and has proper command of the English language, Outer Krieg has an unfortunate (if hilarious) tendency to spout nonsense when he speaks. He's mostly able to get his point across, albeit with some side-ramblings that might have little or nothing to do with the conversation at hand. His feelings on any given situation tend to be expressed through the emotion and volume of his voice, rather than the words he chooses to use. His overall posture and body language reflect what he's feeling as well, and he tends to gesticulate broadly when speaking.

If left to his own devices, Krieg would likely revert back to the crazed, blood-thirsty psychopath from his pre-BL2 days. His peaceful side definitely doesn't want that to happen, and while it's difficult to say for sure, his violent side does seem to feel the same. Living the way he did before was unsustainable for long-term survival which is necessary to find out what happened to "her." Both sides realize this. In an RP setting, he's likely to attach himself to another person or people with a strong personality and at least reasonably decent morals (such as Maya). He may suffer from a loss of touch with reality from time to time, but his sense of "right and wrong" works just fine.

He remembers birds, the kind with feathers on. He doesn't remember why he does, just that he does. Raks don't have feathers. Neither did Bloodwing, not really. The little bird at his feet is a bright orange and yellow and covered in feathers and doesn't seem to have wings. It looks soft, and delicate, and squishable.

Don't you dare, he orders himself.

But he doesn't need to be told. He isn't going to hurt it. He doesn't want to hurt it. It's looking up at him just as curiously as he's looking down at it. It chirps and hops to an fro, once, twice, three times, before stopping to stare up at him again. He tilts his head to one side, meets its beady little black eyes with his one visible eye, and kneels, cautiously, stretching out a careful hand. The little bird chirps again, and hops into his hand once it's low enough, miniscule talons pricking the flesh of his palm.

    It's just a baby.

It weighs nothing, like a feather, in his hand.

We can't have a pet. We can barely take care of ourselves.

The little bird fluffs up contentedly and nestles down into his hand. Krieg remains motionless in order to allow it to do so. For a time, the tiny creature appears to fall asleep, and Krieg watches the way its soft feathers flutter in time with its breathing. Time passes, though he's not particularly aware of it, and eventually the little bird wakes up. It blinks its round, black eyes at him, and begins to hop and walk up his arm, its sharp little nails digging and pricking once it reaches the bare skin of his bicep. When it reaches his shoulder, it stops and perches there, tiny talons digging securely into the leather straps of his harness.

It chirps brightly, as if to say, "Let's go!", and a laugh escapes from Krieg, deep, guttural, and a little unhinged. He rises to his feet amid a chorus of snaps and groans from various joints in his hips and knees, protesting the sudden movement after remaining motionless for so long. He ignores the sharp ache in his legs and begins walking. There's a worn path that's easy to follow through all of the impossibly green, vivid plant life. His axe is missing and he has no idea where he is or where his fellow vault hunters are, but he has a small fluffy companion to accompany him while he looks for his missing property and friends, so things can't be all bad.

    Character
    Name: Roxy Lalonde
    Series: Homestuck
    Timeline: Act 7
    Canon Resource Links: Roxy Lalonde

    Personality:
Roxy’s predominate personality is very open and friendly. She enjoys talking to people, something that was difficult in her isolated childhood. She listens to her friends problems and give advice, even if it isn’t always good advice. She doesn’t like keeping secrets and would rather be honest. When she first met Jane she told her that she lived in the future and her mother was dead and was hurt that Jane didn’t believe her. She also chose to give Jane a heads up that Dirk planned to make a move on Jake because she wanted Jane to have an equal chance. She also likes to tease her friends. She pokes fun at the way Jake roleplays or how serious her other friends are, but it isn’t mean. Roxy cares a great deal about her friends as well as people in general. She helped feed the carapacians and didn’t hold it against them when they ate her pet cats because she knew they were starving. She similarly worried about what would happen to the trolls if she helped the Condesce resurrect her race. She knew the Condesce would enslave them and couldn’t in good conscience assist in the process. When the Matriorb would go to Kanaya, Roxy not only created it, but also volunteered to help Kanaya with whatever she needed.

Roxy is also a huge flirt. She will flirt with anyone regardless of their response. Her strongest romantic feelings are towards Dirk, who she continues to constantly pursue even knowing he can’t return her feelings. Ultimately, she realizes that she’s being unfair and needs to stop because she is probably making him uncomfortable. She needs to work on respecting others boundaries, but that’s definitely a work in progress. When she meets John she immediately tries to determine if he is boyfriend material.

When Roxy was introduced she was constantly drunk. She became an alcoholic because she thought it would bring her closer to the mother she never knew. She later acknowledges that she doubted her mom drank and she was just using that as an excuse. She used alcohol as an escape from her extreme isolation growing up and to cope with Jane not trusting her. Once she entered the game and learned she’ll get to meet a version of her mom, she quit cold turkey because she wanted to be someone her mother would be proud of. Roxy’s struggle with alcoholism showed her strength and commitment to changing her life. She supported herself while she was going through withdrawal and cravings and still helped her friends as best she could. She relapsed due to what are essentially magical drugs and realized that while she had told herself she was over her alcoholism, it wasn’t that simple and she had still, to some extent, been denying the problem. Her alcoholism didn’t go away just because she quit drinking, and while her relapse was a setback, she committed to working on the problem.

When possible, Roxy avoids direct confrontation. She removes herself from what she calls the “Jake stakes” because she doesn’t want to compete against Jane or Dirk. Even when she argues with the Condesce or Grimbark Jade, she isn’t particularly confrontational. She tells them she can’t do what they want her to and it’s impossible but she backs down when Jade threatens to kill her. Roxy doesn’t deal with her frustrations by getting overtly angry, instead she becomes very passive-aggressive. This especially comes up when conversations are about romance. In conversations with both Dirk and Jake, Roxy becomes very passive-aggressive over how she feels she isn’t allowed to be attracted to anyone and her frustration that Dirk specifically doesn’t return her feelings.

Roxy is incredibly intelligent and capable. She is a computer programmer capable of creating a program that can blow up a computer. She also has a lot of experience with ectobiology in the form of her mutant cats. She has a good understanding of fenestrated walls and uses them to teleport around her home. She enjoys being challenged, something Jade pointed out to be her motivation for creating the Matriorb.

    Character
Name: Agent Maine | Headcanon name: Colm, last name unknown.
    Series: Red vs Blue
Timeline: Season 9, Episode 17: "Spiral"
    Canon Resource Links:
So, for the canon blind, Red vs. Blue is a machinima series based in the Halo Universe, which is why I've included a link from Halo.

Agent Maine on the RvB wiki. Please note that he is being pulled from before Sigma's implantation, so things that refer to him as "the Meta" haven't happened yet..
Project Freelancer on the RvB wiki.
Another good link is one on the Spartan program because I headcanon that Agent Maine was one of the surviving wash outs from the Spartan program. It actually cuts down on headcanon and the potential conflicts with other players that an intricate headcanon backstory can cause. Otherwise, I've taken no liberties with his history, aside from supplying him with a first name.

    Personality:

Maine is extremely reticent. He doesn't like to waste words or even syllables. He's very comfortable with silence, and he's not comfortable with talking a lot... or feelings... or people. Unlike all the other known Freelancers, he's never shown simply hanging out with various members of the Project. He generally prefers solitude, and yet, no one holds it against him.

He's violent, but Maine goes further than most of the other Freelancers. "Some" violence is to be expected when you're in a military secret ops team; Agent Maine's favorite weapon is half grenade launcher/half big ass knife (the Brute Shot). He's been groomed to be ruthless for as long as he can remember, and Maine is stone cold in his decisions. For example, when Agent Texas showed up at PFL, Maine identified her as a threat to his high rank amongst the other Freelancers after she beat a trio of the top-ranking agents (including himself). At this point, he joined with Agent Wyoming in using live ammunition in the training room, in order to kill her before she could do any damage to his status. A lot of this won't apply in Victory Road, to be sure, but he's also happy just punching people in the face. Or stomach. Wherever.

Maine works incredibly hard. He goes full tilt when he's after something, and everyone knows it. The other Freelancers use Maine as a distraction for an entire building full of enemy soldiers, while two of them - two of them - comment that they almost feel bad for the other guy.

This segues into another particular trait: stubbornness. He is doggedly stubborn, and he does not let go once his metaphorical jaw has locked. It can make him a bit juvenile, as when he complained that a jump was 'too high' and forced another agent to kick him off the roof [He was fine, and everyone knew he'd be fine, but he kinda had a point BECAUSE SHE KICKED HIM OFF A SKYSCRAPER]. Coupled with his ambition to be the best, is it any surprise that he tried to shoot Texas as mentioned above? Not so much, no. He's a terrible loser, and it's compounded by the fact that Agent Maine doesn't fail [ever, in his head; not often, according to the Freelancer rankings]. He doesn't like to be on the receiving end of help, as seen when he swats away medical assistance when he's been beaten badly in training.

His world is black-and-white, and very few people are afforded the opportunity to earn his respect. Once they have it, though, he is incredibly loyal and even protective. It's important to note that Maine isn't a psychopath or a sociopath. There are at least two people that he has some level of kindness towards for more than a personal gain. One is Agent Carolina, who he takes a bullet for, and the other is Agent Washington, although the mercy showed in that case hasn't happened at his pullpoint. I think it's still relevant, because anything shown past this moment in his life is Agent Maine under the increasing influence of the dominant AI Sigma. Despite this, he spares Washington's life twice, at a time when he's killing friends and foe alike.

Wash and Maine are implied to have been friends, which would have an odd couple sort of appeal. Maine tolerates young Wash's stupid joking color commentary better than the other Freelancers, and, again, past this specific pullpoint, Wash seems to know how Maine thinks well enough to interpret the grunts and groans that Maine communicates with after his injury.

He has a sense of humor, though. He puts up with Wash, after all, and there's also the instance where he helps an enemy soldier up by extending her fellow soldier's robotic arm and then... pitches her to her presumed death. Well, he thought it was funny.

I'm not sure where to put it, but I thought I should point out that Agent Maine is something of a physical beast. It's not a power (Red vs Blue doesn't have non-armor or AI based powers), but he's definitely more durable than the average Freelancer. It might be a stubborn refusal to die; it's unclear. He is also ridiculously strong.

    Name: Stanford Pines
    Series: Gravity Falls
    Timeline: Post-canon
Canon Resource Links: Wiki here! As a note, both this link and the personality below will contain spoilers for the recently-released Journal 3. Nothing ground-breaking or game changing, but just enough I feel it's a good idea to give a note so anyone who wants to experience the journal with fresh eyes can do so.

Personality: Ford Pines is, to put it simply, weird. He's lived a very long life that has from the very moment of his birth been jam-packed with strangeness, and it's deeply influenced how he thinks and interacts with the world around him.

Perhaps the most important influence on Ford's personality has been his family. Growing up with a twin brother who he was almost never apart from and on whom he depended for both protection and emotional stability left Ford with a difficulty reaching out and connecting with other people. This was only compounded by the bullying he endured at the hands of his peers and the emotional distance between him and his father. All of this was the perfect mix to result in a man who has trouble thinking outside of himself, who has difficulty imagining different points of view and different experiences. He knows they exist, it's just that to him his are more important.

That's the thing about Ford Pines. Growing up in Filbrick Pines' household and being labelled 'the smart one' from a young age instilled within him a deep need to excell and impress. He began to equate his genius with his self-worth, something that would last with him all his life, as well as an ingrained craving for validation and a feeling of importance. Indeed, we see this in the importance he places on the college he hopes to attend and the anger and panic he feels when that dream is taken away from him because of what is perceived as his failure, which then becomes Stanley's failure (and is therefore a lot easier for him to digest). The idea that he, Ford, could possibly mess up is abhorrent to him and it's the same intense need to be Right that drives him to make deals with demons and nearly doom the entire world over a grammatical error. That is often how he phrases things when he talks about Bill, as well: he talks about his regret that he was tricked, that he could be so stupid, much more than he talks about his regret about what Bill has done to others. He sees the main conflict of the story as a mistake of his own that he must correct, as a personal failing with himself, and that is why he is so incredibly dedicated to taking down Bill and putting things right.

Luckily by the end of canon and particularly the point I'm taking him from, Ford has grown. And, again, all of this is thanks to his family. After being brought back to his native universe Ford reconnects with his brother and meets his grand-niece and grand-nephew, and the three have a profound impact on him. In Dipper and Mabel he sees himself and Stanley, and this leads to him clumsily attempting to connect with Dipper and instead projecting his own issues so hard onto him he could probably be his own drive-in movie theater. The two of them share many talents and hobbies and so Ford finds Dipper to be the easiest to reach out to, and yet he still has trouble realizing that Dipper's experiences are not his own, likely because of the similarities he sees between them. He is less close to Mabel, but he does warm up to her very quickly thanks to her own brand of Weird, something he admires in her even if he doesn't quite always understand it.

And then there's Stan. Stan, who Ford nursed a grudge against for forty years over a misunderstanding and then a cruel accident (this is a habit of Ford's; he can hold a grudge like you wouldn't believe). It isn't until the kids are in terrible danger and him and Stan are literally locked in a box together that they manage to work their differences out. Here it's a case of too little too late; Stan's sacrifice of his entire self to save the rest of the world smacks Ford across the face with the realization that his brother is the hero, not him, and that his grandiose ideas of his own self-importance mean absolutely nothing if his bonds with his family are broken. Up to this point he's been living in a sort of half-fantasy where he's lone (emphasis on lone) hero of his own story, and his family have been slowly whittling that away; this is what undoes it for good. Stan makes a full recovery and Ford finally makes an effort to patch things up between the two of them. Ford probably says it best in the closing statements of his journal: 'You hold a record of one man's folly and the kindness of a family who saved him from himself'.

And Ford Pines is a man worth saving. Despite his flaws, he is a delightfully strange old man. He's a certifiable genius with twelve PhDs who is incredibly curious about the world around him, and all of the other worlds beyond that. He has a thirst for discovery and knowledge that can sometimes lead him into trouble, but that's never stopped him wanting to learn more. On top of that he's creative; he is an accomplished artist and inventor, with an incredible array of devices under his belt including a mind-control tie and a lightbulb that makes your skin softer. His labor of love is his devotion to the weirdness all around him, and he is pretty dang weird himself to match. He loves a good game of Dungeons, Dungeons and More Dungeons, and has a sweet tooth for jelly beans (specifically the malformed ones). In essence, Ford Pines may think he's the badass hero of a scifi novel but in actuality he's a doofy nerd. He has a tattoo that says HEY NOW, I'M AN ALL STAR for goodness' sake.

The thing to remember about Ford Pines is that, for all the hurt he can cause and the bad things his choices have put into motion, there isn't a truly mean bone in his body. He is just incredibly short-sighted when it comes to things outside of himself or his mission, and despite what he likes to think his actions are often dictated by his emotions rather than pure logic. Sure, he can voluntarily shut down his fear responses, but he'll often lash out in anger when it's not warranted or get utterly caught up in childish glee even when it's not productive. He's a good man, really, he's just an idiot. With twelve PhDs.

I am attempting to gather information about partner Pokémon, specifically the ones we are assigned seemingly at random upon arrival. I believe there must be some kind of pattern to it that can be uncovered through looking at the raw data. I would like to know your:

    Age:
    Sex:
Homeworld: (The interdimensional identifier for your universe would be best, but the name of your home planet will do if you are unfamiliar with said identifier. For reference, mine is 46'\)
Homeworld Occuption: (For instance: Student, Soldier)
    Pokémon Occupation: (Trainer, Breeder)
    Pokémon Partner: (Species, Sex, Type)
Pokémon Partner's Distinguishing Marks: (That is, do they exhibit any physical identifiers not found in the Pokédex example of their species?)
Briefly describe your relationship with your partner. If it changed radically between when you first met them and now, please briefly touch on this and, if possible, why.

If you have any other information you feel is relevant, please by all means include it. I am looking to gather as much data as possible.

    Character
    Name: Murphy Pendleton
    Series: Silent Hill
    Timeline: Post-Truth & Justice ending
Canon Resource Links: Murphy on the Silent Hill wiki
Notable choices & ending for this portrayal: Help Anne, Taunt JP, Spare Anne. Truth & Justice ending. This puts Murphy in a morally grey area overall and ultimately means he killed Patrick Napier but didn’t kill Frank Coleridge, and was able to escape Silent Hill.

    Personality:
Murphy is, in a word, distant. He’s soft spoken and keeps his head down for all intents and purposes, and prefers avoiding people altogether rather than engaging them. His aloofness and the curt way in which he speaks to strangers can make him seem callous, but in reality, he is anything but.

While he is brusque in manner and easily frustrated, he is slow to anger, and usually only grows irate when he is personally attacked multiple times or extremely sensitive subjects are brought into question. He displays great patience and empathy with other people, even when they are hostile toward him, and doesn’t often fail to come to the aid of those who appear to need it. He is especially kind and protective towards young children, mindful to keep vulgar language to a minimum and maintain a gentle demeanor, and grows vehemently angry and distressed when their safety is jeopardized.

There is certainly a guarded nature about him, but it was cultivated for appropriate reason. Having felt judged and dismissed by others, even loved ones, his entire life, and hyperaware of the stigma he now bears as a convict, Murphy simply keeps his distance and doesn’t strike at those who haven’t, in his eyes, wronged him or someone else unfairly. Other people appear to be among his greatest fears, all of the creatures spawned from his psyche in Silent Hill seeming more obviously humanoid than many of the town’s previous victims’. In addition to dreading judgment by those he esteems, he internalizes his fears of strangers and authority figures, especially those encountered in his incarceration.

Although he is easily frightened, he usually suppresses his fears and soldiers on until his life is threatened, and even then, he would rather take charge of the situation by fighting or fleeing than sit down and take whatever harm is intended for him.

As far as he’s concerned, however, the person who has done him the most harm is himself. Even the creature he despises most in his Silent Hill is a thinly veiled mirror of Murphy. He blames himself for being unable to protect his son Charlie from being kidnapped and murdered, and for the assault on and death of his only positive authority figure in prison, and he desperately yearns for the forgiveness and affection of the ex-wife he estranged when he got himself arrested.

Murphy’s penchants for self-doubt and -destruction likely stem from an internal struggle of what’s right and what’s wrong. His moral behavior may be “live and let live” one moment and “an eye for an eye” the next, depending on the situation. Even prior to his stint in prison, he participated in morally grey, if not criminal, activities, though he claims to never have injured a person who didn’t deserve it. He seems to strive to do what is right, but his emotions can get the better of him in some instances, and he often tries to justify quite extreme solutions. This is especially prevalent in his role as Patrick Napier’s killer.

At the time leading up to the confrontation, ending the life of his son’s murderer was the only thing that mattered to him, and he felt he was the only one who could bring about real justice. He was more than willing to sink himself into debt with the corrupt corrections officer George Sewell in order to get the alone time with Napier needed to kill him.

After the fact, however, perhaps especially after Sewell’s attack on Frank Coleridge in which Murphy is implicated, he shows a tremendous amount of guilt. He remarks that it doesn’t even matter that he killed Napier, as it didn’t bring Charlie back; this is one way he realizes and acknowledges that although he excused the act as seeking justice at the time, in the end it was simply vengeance. This quest for revenge not only made him a murderer too, and therefore no better of a man, it also resulted in Frank’s death, for which he readily accepts responsibility despite never harming Frank with his own hands.

Having essentially nothing left and being a wanted criminal, Murphy seems primarily motivated to simply survive, although even this drive has its limits. When trapped or targeted by others with no options or escape left, he accepts his fate and impending death with little argument. However, he will continue moving forward as long as there is an opportunity to do so, even if he had previously given up hope.

I don’t know whose idea of a joke this is, but I get it. I do. I’ve already played this game. The big accident, the waking up in a strange town, the weird creatures. The whole song and dance.

Look, it seems nice here. It really does. But if whoever’s in charge can just… cut it out, that’d be great. And I know you’re listening. You always are.

I'm done with being trapped against my will. I did my time. I don’t belong here. Let me go home.

    Character
    Name: Janey Springs
    Series: Borderlands
Timeline: After Tales from the Borderlands
    Canon Resource Links: sup

    Personality:
Janey Springs is, like all of the characters in the Borderlands universe, introduced with a title card. Hers reads, “Black marketer. Heart of gold.” And that's exactly what she is. Janey genuinely likes people. She's been isolated and alone for so long that she sort of latches onto whomever she runs across; her friendship with the Vault Hunters—and especially Athena—is a fast one, for the most part. Since Janey's a junker and likes to build stuff, she's truly happy to help people. In Tales from the Borderlands, she even helps the main characters build a rocket ship. Janey's not just the type of person to help someone if they just need a favor: She's the one to help the player character find an Oz kit so they can actually breathe up on Elpis, the moon. She even offers to repair a broken Oz kit so the character doesn't die horribly. Along the same vein, Janey's… pretty cheerful about the concept of possibly dying from oxygen deprivation. She's very straightforward and to the point (The second you open this door, all the oxygen is gonna vent and you're gonna suffocate. It'll hurt a lot and your eyes will pop like grapes when the pressure differential gets too harsh.) and is far from afraid from letting that be known. … Except she also, after the player comes out of the door, she says cheerfully, “Don't think about the grapes thing!” Helpful.

She isn't modest about her skills, and she thinks her friends shouldn't be, either. Janey's good at reassuring people: The sidequest involving Torgue has her comforting him when he's upset about the fact that “people like lasers more than explosions.” When Scooter suggests that his work isn't much to look at, Janey reassures him that it is very good. Janey wants people to feel good about themselves. Unless you're an asshole. However, as much faith as Janey has in people, she tends to worry a lot. Her whole problem with Athena's going out and taking jobs is because Athena's throwing herself into danger--and Janey worries to hell and back about her. She's about as much of an optimist as you can get in Borderlands; as Athena says in a line of cut dialogue, she doesn't understand how people can kill thousands to finish a job or get nice loot. Janey's a genuinely good person—if a little... erm, boisterous.

“Heart of gold” is definitely the best way to describe Janey—even if that heart of gold is buried beneath layers of grease. Janey can come off as a little too forward, but she's comfortable with who she is and her sexuality. She hits on Athena several times, even being so bold as to let on that she has a “sexy scar” on her stomach. (EXTREMELY sexy. Athena.) She's blunt about her advances; she sees no reason to hide that she is! She probably has every reason to be so straightforward; she's been alone for a long time, and she's survived on Elpis for a long time. You don't survive on Elpis without being made of really strong stuff, and Janey actually thrives there. She's the reason the player character survives more than ten seconds on the moon. Even when things don't quite go her way, Janey is happy when people are happy; there's a sidequest in which the player can either deliver a thing to Janey or throw it into the lava—at the behest of a certain Mr. Torgue. If the player chooses to throw it into the lava, Janey's a little disappointed… but she's happy that he's happy.
Still, 'least you made the muscly guy happy! I call that a net gain.
With Athena, her heart of gold shines through especially. Janey loves Athena so deeply; which is why when she realizes Athena's been lying to her, it stings. Badly. Janey is upset—but at the same time, when Athena finally comes clean, she forgives her. Janey's capacity for forgiveness (unless you're a kraggon or Deadlift) is pretty impressive! Mostly where Athena's concerned. Throughout Tales, Janey is very persistent in emphasizing that Athena is past her bounty hunting days; she sounds vaguely threatening whenever Athena suggests going back to her old, dangerous life. More than anything, Janey does trust Athena. She believes in her more than anyone else.

As a junker, Janey is super creative and super smart. She builds stuff for a living, after all, and that stuff is built from practically nothing. Spare parts aren't much to look at, but once Janey's on the job, she can create some pretty amazing stuff. She even manages to cobble together a rocket ship that actually works fairly well (fairly—there are a few hitches but, hey, Janey isn't perfect) and does the job. Janey's true creativity shines through if the player chooses her in the final showdown against the Traveler in Tales—when she controls Gortys, a huge robot, she manages to get Gortys to fire actual jets. And she kicks the Traveler in the face. No mercy from this junker.

Which brings us to a less-than-cheerful Janey Springs: She can be incredibly vengeful. Like, scarily vengeful. Mess with her or anyone she cares about, and you're in for it. For example, Janey's girlfriend, Steph, was killed by kraggons. Janey very much wants to see them dead—she even talks about making “corpse jewelry” out of them. Her title card in Tales even reads “Slayer of kraggons,” so she has a serious vendetta against them. It's probably a little excessive, but Janey is still hurting deeply over the loss of Steph, even after so long. Janey represses the hell out of her negative feelings. There are times when she lets the hurt shine through, such as when she's talking about the kraggons killing “her”… that is, Steph. So Janey wants to see every last one of the buggers dead, because they stole from her someone so important. Janey is also the type to want to see assholes dead. She contracts the Vault Hunter to kill a guy named Deadlift, partly because he didn't take well to her not being into guys, but mostly because “he's an asshole.” Literally. She emphasizes this constantly throughout the sidequest, and she's absolutely right: Guy's an asshole.

Janey, also, can dwell very deeply on her sadness. There's an obvious heaviness to her voice when she speaks about her dead girlfriend; she almost sounds like she's going to cry. Of course, she deals with this in a slightly… unconventional way: She writes a children's book about it.
This one is called, "Baby Kraggon Goes On An Adventure". Baby Kraggon crawled out of the crack with his mum, Flamey. They saw strange two-legged creatures and thought, "They must be food!" So Baby Kraggon and his mum raided the camp. Flamey tore a two-legger up pretty bad, and Baby Kraggon killed another one. Then Baby Kraggon ran away like a little b***h, stupid piece of s**t.
This is an actual thing Janey writes. She channels her anger through actual children's books—and she's very insistent on not censoring her work. Janey states outright that that book, in particular, was not published because she refused to change the part about people and baby kraggons dying. But, going back to Janey's sadness... she's distraught when she finds out Athena is lying to her. She can't understand why her girlfriend would lie; and more than that, Janey is unsure of herself with Athena. She worries that Athena doesn't actually like her However, when she's told that Athena said she loves her before being taken... well, Janey perks right up--and she becomes determined to rescue her girl and marry her.

Known as the man who “makes possible the impossible”, Snake usually shows himself as a calm and collected person. He is the type who rather keep his true self hidden under layers of serious and calmness, mechanisms of self defense learned in his vast experience as soldier in the battlefield.

As he hardly displays any sign of emotions, Snake rathers not to involve himself with people or get himself in complex relationships, finding them too difficult and demanding to follow and choosing solitude instead. Disguising as a dog musher, he isolated himself for years in Alaska, also dealing with alcoholism and PTSD caused by his battles in both Outer Heaven’s sabotage and Zanzibar Land Disturbance against Big Boss, his former mentor and father, revealed by the latter on their final battle.

Despite his traumas, and after learning he was nothing but a clone of Big Boss, Snake is still able to display his usual calm demeanor and go on with his mission, not bothering in fighting the fact but, instead, living with it. At its best, Snake is a firm believer that genes don’t write a man’s will but his own actions.

As well, Snake is also shown to be able to be merciful and noble, fighting fiercely for what he believes is the right thing to do, albeit his usual violence displayed in battle (as claimed by both friends and foes). On the other hand, and according to his own philosophy and his sense of justice, Snake also believes in the value of life, claiming this multiple times and fighting according to such claims, fighting for a better future for next generations coming after him.

    [AUDIO]

    Huh…? Anyone…? Guess nobody’s there.

[A couple knocks just to make sure the radio is working, and David gets back to staring at this… weird dog animal kind of thing that’s barking friendly at him. It feels soft and warm (very warm) at the touch, yet he’s still not sure of what to do with him. It seems friendly enough to him, though, for being a specimen he has never encountered.]

[If it were by him, he’d just pass by the weird dog, yet somehow the animal is blocking the path. No matter how much he tries to dodge him, the dog won’t let him go any further without it.] It’s been three miles so far. Aren’t you tired of following me?

[Apparently not, since the dog keeps on kneeling against his leg, happily barking. Was he sniffing at his pocket now? Ah, that’s where he kept that weird device with a button in the middle. According to what he was told, the switch would make the ball grow to hand size in order to ‘catch a pokemon’.]

[Could this be one of those said pokemon? But wouldn’t it be just too cruel to lock him up at that tight space? He knew himself it wouldn’t be comfortable at all, and making a dog go through the same on purpose just didn’t feel right. He had his limits too. And this was one of those thing beyond his limits.]

What am I supposed to do with you? You want this ball?

    Personality:
Lance is all that and a bag of chips.

At least, if you ask him, that’s what he’ll say. He’s very self-assured and overly confident in his own abilities to the point that he’s often arrogant and egotistical. He talks about himself and his capabilities as though he’s capable of practically anything and everything. However, this mostly comes out of Lance’s desire to prove himself. He wants to prove to everyone watching that he’s capable of anything and everything, but his bragging leads to him shoving his own foot so far into his mouth that its in his stomach when something goes wrong beacuse of something he did. This can definitely be seen in his self proclaimed rivalry with Keith, as it’s pointed out to him that he was only able to transfer to the fighter pilot program from the cargo pilot program at the military academy due to a certain mulleted individual flunking out.

But there is more to Lance than just this. He can be pretty sensitive and reflective at times. He desperately misses Earth and his family. His bravado serves as an attempt to cover that up, even if doesn’t always work. Just as well, Lance can also be aware of himself and his surroundings, especially when he’s in the middle of a mission. For as impulsive as Lance is, he himself is capable of recognizing when it’s better to hold back and think things through. At the same time however, Lance is not the most perceptive and can miss things that are right in front of his face.

Lance is incredibly friendly and amicable. He has a sense of humor, even if at times it most often involves sarcasm and literal fart jokes. Unless he has “legitimate” reason not to, he will treat any new person with kindness, and if it’s a cute girl, he will most definitely flirt with them. But even if he has a “legitimate” reason to not be kind to someone right away, he will also be entirely willing to change that whole way of dealing with someone if he gets legitimate reason to get over it. So even while Lance maintains a rivalry with Keith, it quickly goes from something Lance does to compensate for his jealousy to something Lance does as a way to bond with a new friend.

As the pilot of the blue lion, Lance embodies the water element of his lion very well. Much like water, Lance isn’t static. Water is ever changing, going from form to form constantly and there is more to it than just what’s seen at first. Like water, Lance adapts to the situation that he’s thrown in. He may not enjoy it, but Lance will do what he thinks is best. And in the end, he’ll do it in the most Lance way possible. After all, just because water becomes ice when it’s cold, doesn’t mean it’s any different from water when it’s a liquid.

Lance sits on the ground and watches the… Shinx? That’s what it’s called again, right? He watches the Shinx play on the ground in front of him. He’s still not used to this whole pokemon thing, to be honest. But then again, it was a whirlwind of events that forced him out of the house he suddenly woke up again to going out into the wild to start a journey of his own into the world of pokemon. To be honest, he feels like he just experienced the openning sequence of some sort of video game. There were no real choices, just press play and watch the game start.

    But that’s just silly.

He has a moment to finally breathe and try to catch up. One minute, he just finished having the most terrible, no good, very bad day that just happened because of the castle being corrupted by a Galran crystal and now he’s here. Shinx is doing well stalking a blade of grass. It’s low to the ground, eyes focused on that surely dangerous blade of grass.

...At least he got a blue lion pokemon for a starter. It’s a small comfort, to be honest. While it’s not any replacement for his regular blue lion. For one thing, it’s about one thousand times too small to be his Blue but it’s still nice.

    “So, you’re... Shinx, right?”

Shinx stops stalking the blade of grass to look at him, joy evident on its face. Lance offers his own smile back to it, reaching out to scratch the Shinx behind its ears.

“Alright, this won’t be so bad. Especially if I have you for a partner. I’m sure with us both working together, we’ll be an unbeatable team!”

Shinx nods and jumps onto Lance’s shoulder. It lets out what Lance assumes to be an attempt at a roar and if asked, Lance will flat out say that it was the fiercest roar that has ever been heard in the entire Pokemon world.

    Because it totally was.

    “Good, glad you agree.”

And there’s a beat of silence.

    “So, how do we start?”

    Character
    Name: Minato Arisato
    Series: Persona 3
Timeline: Just after clearing the Evil Spirit Club in Persona Q
    Canon Resource Links: wiki entry

    Original Character Background:

Minato's world is, in essence, modern-day Japan. At the start of the game, he comes to Iwatodai, a coastal town with your usual Japanese accoutrement: restaurants, trains, schools, shrines. He is transferred here after a string of previous schools to attend the prestigious Gekkoukan High school - the grounds upon which one of the formative events of his life occurred.

For this is not his first visit to Iwatodai. Many years ago, Gekkoukan High was a laboratory working on Shadows, strange lifeforms which only appear in a 'hidden hour' after midnight. This Dark Hour is only visible to those with the potential to manifest a Persona; everyone else transforms into a giant coffin for the duration. The moon turns a sickly green, all electronics stop working, and the streets become slicked with blood. Unluckily for Minato, it's on the day of his visit as a child that the Shadows break loose and form into Death itself.

Have I mentioned there are robots? Robots are made to fight the Shadows (of course modeled like teenage girls, because Japan). One of these robots, Aigis, chases the Death Shadow to the bridge where Minato is. His parents are killed in the fray, and Aigis, with no other choice, seals Death inside of Minato.

Minato does not remember any of this at the beginning of the game. All he knows is that his parents have died and that he is now here, several years later, attending high school. Thanks to engineering behind the scenes, Mitsuru Kirijo, daughter of the Kirijo Group in charge of the lab that had caused this Shadow accident, drafts him into the Persona-users when he demonstrates his talents against a Shadow attack within the Dark Hour. Minato picks up a fallen comrade's Evoker - a gun-shaped device designed to trigger the trauma required to summon a Persona by putting it to your head and pulling the trigger - and awakens Orpheus within himself.

Summoning so easily the first time means he gets elected as leader for their very special task. Once again, Gekkoukan High is the source of it all. Within the Dark Hour, it transforms into a giant, nightmarish tower called Tartarus - and he and his team-mates must climb it to defeat the Shadows and put an end to the Dark Hour once and for all.

As for his personality, I'm mostly basing it off a mix of his movie character and in-game choices. As one might imagine, losing his parents at a young age and being shuttled from relative to relative, dorm to dorm, has left him with a deep sense of apathy and depression. He makes an efficient leader because, by his own words, he doesn't care if he lives or dies. We see as the movies progress, though, that this depression is matched by a deep, powerful yearning for 'bonds'. He might not show it with expression or words, but he cares deeply for others and spends most of his time trying to help them with their problems and spend time with them.

I mix in the general contents of the game for flavour here, like his clubs, who he chooses to spend time with, and so on. The way quests are structured and his portrayal in the movie gives him a very passive vibe. If someone asks him to do something, he'll do it, because he doesn't care either way; conversely, if not pushed to do anything, he'll just while away his days wandering about. Perfect for the Pokemon world.

    Personality:

One thing first: in gameplay terms, Minato's personality can be whatever you want to be thanks to the wonderful world of silent protagonists. He can be a player and be banging five girls and a robot at once, he can shove his nose in a book and never talk to anyone, he can exclusively keep the company of alcoholic monks and feed cats in alleyways. All of that is fluid and up to the interpretation of the player. What we can incontrovertibly say about him, however, is what we see in the manga, movie, and game themselves.

What that boils down to is that Minato is a pretty quiet dude. At the tender age of six, Minato had a very bad time: the supernatural hidden time known as the Dark Hour occurred while he was with his parents on a bridge. Death, having escaped from a lab with a robot sent to eliminate it in hot pursuit, rampaged and ended up killing his parents. As only those with the potential for a Persona can see this time, the young Minato was forced to watch as this horror cruelly orphaned him - and, with no other option available to the robot, Aigis, Death was sealed inside of his body.

The consequences of this are what you'd expect them to be. Being orphaned so young, Minato withdraws into himself, pushed around from foster home to foster home until eventually ending up back in Iwatodai, the scene of his parents' death, ten years later, when the events of the game take place. Withdrawn and reserved, he prefers to observe others and keep to himself, only speaking when spoken to. He busies himself with listening to music and food, even letting his academics slide. The recent movie furthers amplifies this intense apathy by showing how little he cares about life and death, especially his own, going a ways to explain how eagerly he rushes into battle against the horrific Shadows. He grows, of course, through the tight bonds of SEES and the family atmosphere of the dorm, but some things are not quite so easy to change.

This is not to say that he is a totally apathetic blank slate. Being so quiet and observant also means that he is extremely thoughtful and loyal to his friends. Once again, it's up to the player as to whether Minato pursues his Social Links - bonds of friendship that power up his Personas for battle - for selfish or altruistic means. But still we see him gently coach his friends through their problems with endless patience and insight, ready for them to lean on him no matter how much of a burden it places on his already overloaded shoulders. Though he doesn't express or talk about it, Minato cares fiercely about his friends, literally risking his life for them.

There are other, smaller facets. He is always tired. He can eat like a man with six stomachs. Even to his closest friends, he still doesn't talk about himself if he can help it. But in the end, whole of the kid is basically what you see: quiet, kind, largely apathetic towards everything that is not his friends, and entirely prepared to carry the burden of saving the world on his shoulders.

    Victory Road Sample:

It took a transfer like this for Minato to realise he'd lived pretty much his whole life in urban settings. He had been a little ill at ease ever since coming to in New Bark Town - yet another weird alternate dimension in his list of weird alternate dimensions - and the rustic nature of everything was what struck him the most. He hadn't even really pondered it until finally hitting Goldenrod City. Once there was firm roads under his feet again, he breathed a sigh of relief he hadn't realised he'd been holding, surrounded once again by tall towers and bustling streets.

The world was interesting, strange and dangerous. It hadn't been so long before this that he'd been wandering through caves, villages and forests. Standing here, on the sidewalk waiting for a break in the traffic, he suddenly became self-aware of the dirt of the journey on him. He brushed it off as he waited, attempting to straighten his jacket and hair to some small level of respectability.

This was much less important than his Pokemon. They'd taken a beating in Ilex Forest and, even in their balls, he could sense their injuries. It wasn't so different from Personas, really - save for the small matter of them being actual wild animals instead of reflections of his soul swirling around inside his brain. Either way,the Pokemon Centre was the first priority - then a comfortable chair and an inhumanly large amount of pastries and coffee. He turned towards the next approaching person.

    "Ah, excuse me. I --"

And they walked straight past. Minato went blank for a minute, even his mild level of emotion leaving his face, and recovered from that easily. It was a big city, after all. People were busier. That, too, didn't really matter either way. He pushed down the natural urge to not ask for help and just wander until he found it. SEES weren't here, but that didn't mean his bonds meant nothing. He just had to try a little. He brushed himself off again, just to be sure he didn't look entirely like an insane wilderness person, and raised a hand to flag down the next likely person travelling along.

"Excuse me. Where's the Pokemon Centre from here?"

    Character
    Name: Hunk
    Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
    Timeline: End of Episode 11
Canon Resource Links: Wikia; official bio

    Personality:
The gentle giant goofball of the bunch and the left leg of Voltron, Hunk is as sweet as he is round (that is to say: quite a bit). His problems have always included caring too much and too deeply, but they haven't gotten him into too much trouble (yet)--unless you count becoming a Paladin (or a pilot) of Voltron just because he snuck out one night during "team bonding" shenanigans. Besides fighting aliens in space, he doesn't like the idea of fighting, verbally or violently at all. He'll be the first one to mediate a situation, hold someone back, or try to talk logic into all parties in the hopes of finding peace before using his strength.

And strength--physically--is actually one of his strong suits. Despite the pudginess, he's surrounded by a core of solid muscle, able to lift hundreds of pounds pretty easily. He can pick up his friends with ease, can give piggyback rides, and tends to use it more towards moving and shifting large things than anything else. Outside of that, he's surprisingly cautious. His movements are careful and calculated to avoid from bumping into others or hitting anyone, and he uses that precision touch to help with making or building technology. Back in school, at the Garrison, where young cadets are trained to be space pilots, Hunk's main role on the teams is an engineer, and for good reason. He's great with science and physics.

Hunk is also ridiculously observant, nearly always paying attention to situations. He tends to notice minor details or strange happenstance, which has come in handy more than once. During a particularly bad encounter when they'd run across two aliens in need of assistance from a broken ship--turns out, it was a trap--Hunk noticed something strange with the repairs given the pieces requested and the placement of them on the vessel, something his other teammates weren't aware of. He earned himself ranting rights once the team discovered that they'd been had, as he'd known something was wrong from the start. He's also a great analyst on the battle field, tending to take in some details to ask about when they're up against some creature to fight.

But outside of that, he's also usually one of the first to know if a friend's having a bad day, and usually has a checklist of things to do to make it better. Hunk is very much a caring friend, and he always wants to make sure everyone's doing good. He loves his friends, even the ones reluctant to his hugs, and he keeps an eye on them to keep them in good spirits. He's friends with Lance, whom he's known for quite a while, and while Lance is loud and exuberant and makes way too many bad decisions, he's always the first person to get dragged on an adventure or to encourage his really terrible insults. He knows Lance always has his back, but in turn, he does the same. Pidge, the newest one of their team at school (you know, before the adventures into space hijinks), intrigues him with technology and research, but being the youngest with such a strong motivator to stay on the team as well, Hunk does his best to be nothing but supportive and watchful. He even finds out the secret Pidge has been keeping early in, but feels no need to spill; but with Pidge being almost as mischievous as Lance, Hunk always finds himself at risk of getting caught doing something.

He loves food, and he loves to eat. During carefree afternoons when he's got free time, if he's not tinkering with electronics, he'll smuggle in a second lunch. He even spends time with Coran, the ship's mechanic and the Princess's right hand man, fiddling around with the unfamiliar foods on the ship in the hopes of making something that tastes more... earthy. He even gives Coran's strange-looking and normally stinky items a chance--or rather, he tries. While his stomach doesn't get him as airsick in space as it has during the early days of Voltron (and every single simulator at school if it wasn't smooth), it's still rather sensitive at times.

He also harbors a crush on a young alien named Shay. Outside of just enjoying her presence upon speaking with her, he feels a drive to show her happiness. Shay and her people are one of Hunk's biggest motivators fo staying with Voltron and for fighting to save the universe. He wants to stop Galra, the legion terrorizing space, because he doesn't want to see more people who grew up as Shay did, living underground and slaving away every day for the Galra. The Galra had enslaved her people for a long time, and it isn't a common occurrence for them at all. Hunk wants to put an end to it. Shay had had one request--she wanted to see what the sky looked like, wanted to feel wind even on her broken planet, and Hunk's motivation had been set. He fights in part just for her. She'd been captured at one point, and he spent a short while afterward hastily urging the rest of the paladins to rush on ahead to save her, despite the fact that they'd needed to assist others as well. Knowing she's safe now is a comfort to him, but he plans on fighting to make sure they stay safe.

"No, you already had like half the bag!"

While most trainers had their pokemon securely in their pokeballs or cooperating with them, taking them on adventures or battling in the wonderful pleasant fall weather, Hunk found himself at an impasse of crunchy proportions. He'd opted to spend the afternoon reading and on a picnic with his Sandshrew, enjoying the weather outside, and had taken a few snacks to share along the beachy waterside. His Sandshrew, a little explorer, liked just burrowing for a while, hence their afternoon--an afternoon of digging through the ground and playing weird games of peek-a-boo. But when he realized that his pokemon was the one thing that rivaled his snacking habits... He knew he was in trouble.

Scooping up the little wiggling monster in one arm, he held it back from the shelf and sighed.

"Come on, Amber, you gotta stop fighting me on this. You're gonna get fatter than a Snorlax!"

Which was actually a little ironic, coming from him. The pokemon wiggled, frowning up at him, as if he could get his trainer to change his mind by mere pity. Hunk, ever the responsible owner, had read that it probably was safest to keep pokemon to a strict poke-foods diet, to prevent unnecessary complications or sicknesses, much like a regular dog or cat to him, but his little pokemon had other ideas in mind. Also known as Hunk's favorite potato chips.

The little creature wiggles more, tail swinging about and smacking Hunk's leg. He already had bruises from yesterday, from this exact same thing.

The sad thing though--he was weak to that woeful gaze, those deep, black eyes surrounded by scales, giving him the saddest stare and the most pitiful of whines.

    "Shreeww...."

"Okay, fine! Only two bags, okay?!"

But as he grabbed for them, trying to maneuver them into the basket before Amber actually snatched one to eat right then, the Sandshrew's tail swished back behind him, and right into the shelf.

...and knocked it over. Hunk didn't even have time to turn around. Wincing, he just watched the shelf tilt, holding his pokemon a little closer to him.

"S-sorry? I, uh... I can clean that up?"

    Character
    Name:Angel
    Series:Borderlands
    Timeline:Immediately post-death
Canon Resource Links: Information regarding Angel herself can be found here, while information regarding her former abilities as a siren can be found here. While not relevant to her character in VR, it gives insight to why Jack needed her abilities so badly.

What both wiki pages lack is a more detailed description of her history with Handsome Jack, her father. Angel was abused by him in what appears to have been prior to the events of the series (as her voice is presented as far younger in this audio log. Angel also hints at his manipulation during the course of her death battle, saying, “That’s how he works – he’ll try to guilt you to make you think it’s your fault. Don’t listen.” In short, the wiki article misses the desperation Angel felt and just how willingly she accepted death.

Personality: Angel began her time in the Borderlands universe as a pawn, a tool used by Handsome Jack to reach his goals. Under Jack’s eye, and trapped in the prison that would slowly become her death chamber, she had little agency of her own. Angel was driven by guilt, presumably over her mother’s death, and manipulated into believing that her father wanted what was best for both her and Pandora. With no other option, and no one else to turn to,she had no choice but to listen to Jack.

On the surface, Angel is an incredibly helpful. Whether or not it comes from her abilities, or perhaps from acquired knowledge, her experience with technology allows her to quickly unlock doors and allow for her allies to swiftly navigate the wilds of Pandora. Her days on Pandora usually consisted of helping wayward Vault Hunters and other souls on their missions. While Angel certainly does consider herself to be helpful in many ways, much of the work she did was far from selfless. Her guidance was a facade, one to further the goals of both her father and Hyperion.

Though she had no other options, she still holds herself accountable for what she did. Her machinations led to a great many deaths, many of which happened to those she might have considered her friends.

While it would be perfectly reasonable for Angel to excuse her behavior, at least given her lack of options, never once has she done so. It can be surmised that the same guilty conscience that kept her from refusing Jack is what led her to turn on him. In the end, Angel gave her life to make up for the damage she had caused by perpetuating his rise to power.

In spite of the trauma she has endured, there is still a level of childlike innocence to Angel, and an ability to see the positives in most anyone. While most of Pandora loathes the robot Claptrap, she considers him a “funny little robot.” Though she makes a few jabs at Scooter, she deeply respects his talents.

Despite her meek nature at times, and playful demeanor in others, when it comes down to it, Angel is also firm and unshakeable when she needs to be. During the last few minutes of her life, she does not hesitate to put Roland into his place, insisting he finish his duties and end her life. She is stalwart in the face of her death.

In speaking, even during times out from beneath Jack’s thumb, Angel still feels his influence. She often curbs her tongue, avoiding swearing and correcting herself whenever one does manage to make its way out. It is only fitting then that Angel’s final act of rebellion happened to be calling her father an asshole.

In the end, Angel's most prominent trait is her strength. Despite his every effort to manipulate Angel, to coerce her to his side and to make her believe in his genocidal wrath, Angel stood strong. Though she may have done a great deal of things she would come to regret, in the end, she died for what she thought was right.

Angel was strong enough to face death itself.

Victory Road Sample: It took Angel only a few minutes to become tired, and a few more for her stomach to point out that it very likely hadn’t been filled in months. Her sigh was one of exasperation, cursing the disconnect between her frail body and the desperation of her mind. She’d read once that adrenaline could fuel the body in borderline inhuman ways. So much for that helping her out.

When it became clear that her body couldn’t press any further, Angel plopped down beneath a tree. Her head came to a rest against the bark, rough against her scalp, but not enough to push her to move any further. It doesn’t take long for Mareep to crawl into her lap, her baa becoming pleased.

It doesn’t take either of them long to drift off.

The next thing Angel felt was a sharp sensation of a hoof digging into her. Angel’s eyes flew open, just in time to see Mareep leap from her lap, landing directly in front of an approaching bird. The sheep issued a growl, attempting to warn off the creature, but it did no good. The bird lunged, striking Mareep hard in the side. Mareep yelped, jumping back, before lunging forward and slamming her entire body against the bird.

Dropping back, the feathered monster began kicking dust up. Mareep protested with a small cry, but charged through anyways, just barely catching the bird as it leapt away.

Angel stood, moving over to the scuffle. She plunged her hands in between them, attempting to scoop up Mareep before the fight progressed any further. The bird leapt at her hands, however, its beak dragging along her arm, ripping into the flesh there, before connecting with Mareep. With a yelp, Angel stepped back, while Mareep turned to the bird with another growl. The wool on her back crackled threateningly, the only warning before a wave of electricity rolled off of her, connecting with the bird and stilling it in place.

Mari!, the sheep cried, turning tail and running in another direction. Just as she had only a few hours earlier, Mareep turned her head back, urging Angel to follow. With a glance at her scratched arm and one at the bird, Angel followed after.

So much for this being an easy journey.

    Character
    Name: Jean Kirschtein
    Series: Attack on Titan
Timeline: During the Female Titan arc, after the Forest of Big Trees but before the Battle at Sina
Canon Resource Links: Comprehensive, spoiler-filled wiki

    Personality:
For someone meeting Jean for the first time, they’d see a brash, arrogant young man without a care in the world. Jean presents himself as someone who has it together, someone who is very good at what he does and knows it, someone with no time for those who can’t keep up with him. He’d seem unhelpful, almost condescending, and too focused on his own goals to pay much attention to anyone else. In addition, he’d have no problem telling a stranger about his goals and why they are the only ones that make sense, going so far as to ridicule the other person’s ideas if they didn’t fall in line with his own.

However, if anyone stays past that first meeting and the poor introductions and got to know him better, another side of Jean would emerge. He never gets particularly better at working in a group, and his overly blunt personality would still cause conflicts, but he would also begin to show that he does, in fact, care about those around him. He becomes more patient with those whose ability levels are not on his own, and recognizes that some people have different skill sets that are equally valuable (this is especially the case with Armin Arlert, with whom he forms a grudging friendship). He’s willing to talk ideas and strategies through, particularly on the battlefield, listening to other’s ideas and formulating theories with them.

This is also where his leadership abilities would start to emerge. He’s capable of taking in a situation on the field and assessing it, coming to a conclusion about what to do. He’s also not afraid to leap right in and lead those following him directly, no armchair soldiering for him. He leads by example, and here his brashness and almost foolish bravery work for him, inspiring others to follow his example. However, he’s not wasteful or uncaring about other’s lives, showing moments of weakness and conflict when faced with horrible choices. These are only moments, though, and he’s able to push past them and do what needs to be done.

He doesn’t forget about these awful choices, though. There is a side of himself that he shows only to his closest friend, Marco. This Jean is almost unrecognizable from first impression Jean: he’s quiet, contemplative, and has serious self-doubt about his abilities. He admits his doubts to Marco, giving his friend a glimpse of his internal conflict, and when Marco’s response is less than flattering and probably not what Jean wants to hear (although it is also very honest and a very accurate assessment), Jean listens quietly and takes what Marco tells him under advisement, rather than lashing out. When he trusts someone and is comfortable about them, Jean isn’t as afraid to be vulnerable and honest with them, even though it’s difficult for him. Moreover, he’s haunted by the things he’s done, by the lives that have been lost under his command, and we get the impression this is something he’ll be thinking about for a long time.

Unfortunately, Jean loses that one close relationship when Marco dies, and it’s only then that we see the Jean he never shows anyone else. If Jean was haunted by the other deaths under his command, Marco’s is the most difficult for him to process. We get the impression that the concept of home is not a place for Jean (he seemed largely indifferent to Trost getting invaded by titans, despite that being his home district), but rather a person. Marco dying is the same as Jean losing his home, and he’s stunned and almost broken by it. This is a wound he’ll be carrying with him for a long time, possibly the rest of his life.

One of the things that comes from Marco’s death is Jean’s decision to join the Survey Corps. This is something none of the other trainees understand, and they seem a bit foggy on the idea even after Jean does an admitted half-assed job explaining his reasoning. He won’t tell them the real reason: before he died, Marco told him that he knew Jean would choose the right thing, and in this case, joining the Survey Corps is the right thing to do. Moreover, during the induction ceremony where he officially joins, Jean thinks to himself “Don’t make me hate myself any more than I already do,” and pictures his friends dying at the hands of the titans. He’s visibly shaking during the entire ceremony, obviously terrified and wracked with guilt, but he joins anyway. Marco was right: he chose the right thing to do in the end, even if it went against all his stated intentions and gut instincts.

This is a huge turning point for Jean, and the beginning of him growing up and coming into his own. He’s still arrogant and blunt after this, but it’s toned down. He’s more patient, more willing to listen to others, and he begins to embrace his natural leadership abilities. He still fights with Eren and runs off on his own agendas when faced with authority he doesn’t recognize, but he also takes being in the Survey Corps seriously, putting himself in danger to support the Corps and obeying Commander Erwin with a minimum of fuss. He’s maturing, in other words, and starting to turn into the man he’ll one day become.

Okay, seriously, this is just stupid.

[For someone who had never seen a camera or a video until fairly recently, Jean has taken to both rather quickly. He always did enjoy fooling around with things and learning about them through experimentation, and while the angle of the camera is distinctly unflattering—somehow stretching his long face out even longer while simultaneously giving him six chins—the sheer indignation in his eyes comes across perfectly.]

Everyone else gets something cute, or useful, or sweet or whatever. And I get this.

[The camera swings around, jittering wildly out of control for a moment, and then focuses on a round, red and white ball with glaring eyes. The ball’s eyes narrow further when it realizes the camera is on it, and it lunges forward with a crackling sound. Jean yelps and jumps backwards, making the camera swing wildly for a moment.]

    See! He’s crazy!

[The Voltorb crackles ominously but doesn’t try to come any closer, watching Jean from where it hovers.]

So how am I supposed to make friends with this thing? Because that’s what we’re supposed to do, right? Make friends with them?

[Jean sounds almost condescending about the idea of befriending the Pokemon. Anyone listening very closely might notice how his voice is trembling the tiniest bit, betraying all his uncertainty that he will vehemently deny if called on it. His hand stretches into view, pale with callouses across the palm, and he extends it towards the Voltorb.]

You want to be friends, asshole?

[The Voltorb lunges forward again, and the camera falls to the ground, pointing upwards towards the sky, capturing cheery blue and recording the sounds of electricity crackling and Jean shouting.]

Ow! OUCH! You dick, what was that for?!
